Two held in brutal home invasion

A landscaping contractor who had worked at the home of a South San Francisco couple and a second suspect have been arrested on suspicion of invading their residence, tying them up and sexually assaulting the wife during a five-hour ordeal, police said Thursday.
Juan Carlos Vasquez, 33, was arrested early Thursday while driving the couple's Ford pickup truck near 15th and Mission streets in San Francisco, said South San Francisco police Sgt. Joni Lee.
Vasquez was booked at San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of robbery, burglary, false imprisonment, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft and elder abuse.
Isaias Navarrete, a 20-year-old unemployed dishwasher from San Francisco, was arrested later Thursday and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, conspiracy, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, sexual penetration and auto theft, Lee said.
Vasquez had done landscaping work for the couple four years ago and again a year and a half ago, Lee said. Last fall, he called the couple and asked if they had any more work that needed to be done, but they told him no, Lee said.
About 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, the suspects came to the home on the 300 block of Forest View Drive where the 74-year-old husband and his 53-year-old wife live, police said.
The suspects tied up the couple, beat up the man - knocking some of his teeth out - and sexually assaulted his wife, police said.
They stole jewelry and money and drove off in the couple's truck, Lee said.
The husband managed to free himself about 2:30 p.m. He went to a neighbor's home to call police because the assailants had cut his phone line, officers said.
No other suspects are being sought, Lee said.
