39 arrested in San Diego County for immigration-related crimes
September 21, 2010 | 11:49 am
Federal agents in San Diego County have arrested 39 people for immigration-related offenses, more than half of them felons convicted of crimes ranging from domestic violence to car theft and drug-related offenses, authorities said.

Most of the suspects -- 29 men and 10 women -- were arrested in their homes in San Diego and the northern San Diego County cities of Carlsbad, Vista, Poway and Oceanside, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They originally are from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Somalia and the Philippines. They will be immediately deported or held for immigration hearings.

The three-day sweep was led by ICE’s fugitives operations program, which targets criminal aliens and immigration fugitives.

Agents have made 1,343 arrests so far this federal fiscal year ending Sept. 30. Last year, agents made 1,157 arrests, authorities said.
