"Amnesty would TAX them, and make their outlay even to ours....right!? .... Would it REALLY Level the "Playing Field" Or am I just "Wishing" ??? "

Clearly, you are just wishing. Here is what I read was being touted by Obama:

1) give all the illegals in the US with some sort of work record (i.e. all of them) amnesty (i.e. US
citizenship)

(REALITY CHECK. EVEN IF THE LA RAZA DEMS DON’T GET OFFICIAL AMNESTY, IT WILL STILL BE BUSINESS AS USUAL. NO E-VERIFY, NO BORDERS, NO ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS AGAINST HIRING ILLEGALS. BEEN THIS WAY SINCE THE AMNESTY OF 1986)

2) make them pay a fee

(UNLESS THEY DON’T WANT TO!)

3) make them wait a little while

(ILLEGALS ARE IN THE FRONT OF THE WELFARE LINES WITH AMERICANS IN THE BACK ALREADY. IT’S THE LA RAZA PLAN!)

4) make them learn english

( THE LA RAZA DEMS KNOW ILLEGALS LOATHE THE GRINGO LANGUAGE. MILLIOINS SPENT ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO “PUSH 2 FOR SPANISH . IT’S A FORM OF MEX RACISM.)

5) make them pay back-taxes for the time they were here

(IN LOS ANGELE COUNTY ALONE, WHERE ILLEGALS GET $50 MILLION PER MONTH IN WELFARE, THE TAX-FREE MEXICAN UNDERGROUND ECONOMY IS CALCULATED TO BE NEARLY $2 BILLION)

6) strengthen our borders so we don't get into this mess again (as is providing amnesty solves our current mess)

(HERE’S HOW THE “HOMELAND SECURITY = PATHWAY TO CITIZENSHIP” DEPART DEALS WITH THIS: OBAMA HAS TAKEN 600 BORDER GAURDS OFF OUR BORDERS, AND ACCORDING TO SEN. LAMAR SMITH (TEXAS), ENFORCEMENT OF BORDER CRIMES ARE DOWN 60% UNDER HISPANDERING OBAMA)

Here is what WILL happen if such a bill passes:

1) The illegals, and all of their extended family members will get citizenship

(IT’S CALLED CHAIN MIGRATION. HILLARY IS FOR IT, AND SO IS REP. ZOE LOFGREN, A LA RAZA PARTY SPECIAL MEMBER.

2) The "fee" they have to pay will be a pittance.

3) The time they have to wait will be less than someone who goes through the process of legal immigration

4) The attempt to make them learn english will be struck down as unconstitutional

5) Since their past income is unverified they will lie their asses off to pay almost zero back-taxes.

In fact some make actually claim a bunch of tax credits and come out ahead!

6) The money that is earmarked to strengthen the border will be spent in a few years and will
only stem the flow slightly for those few years, then it is back to full speed.

7) The new citizens will STILL be sponging off the welfare, schools, medical system, etc. as they do now.

Net LOSS for the USA.

SANCTUARY COUNTY LOS ANGELES SPENDS $600 MILLION ON WELFARE FOR ILLEGALS
County Spends $600 Mil On Welfare For Illegal Immigrants
Last Updated: Thu, 03/11/2010 - 3:14pm
For the second consecutive year taxpayers in a single U.S. county will dish out more than half a billion dollars just to cover the welfare and food-stamp costs of illegal immigrants.
Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous, may be in the midst of a dire financial crisis but somehow there are plenty of funds for illegal aliens. In January alone, anchor babies born to the county’s illegal immigrants collected more than $50 million in welfare benefits. At that rate the cash-strapped county will pay around $600 million this year to provide illegal aliens’ offspring with food stamps and other welfare perks.

THE EXORBITANT FIGURE DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ENORMOUS COST OF EDUCATING, MEDICALLY TREATING, OR INCARCERATING ILLEGALS ALIENS. THIS COSTS THE COUNTY AN ADDITIONAL ONE BILLION DOLLARS.

The exorbitant figure, revealed this week by a county supervisor, doesn’t even include the enormous cost of educating, medically treating or incarcerating illegal aliens in the sprawling county of about 10 million residents. Los Angeles County annually spends more than $1 billion for those combined services, including $500 million for healthcare and $350 million for public safety.
About a quarter of the county’s welfare and food stamp issuances go to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their anchor babies, according to the figures from the county’s Department of Social Services. In 2009 the tab ran $570 million and this year’s figure is expected to increase by several million dollars.
Illegal immigration continues to have a “catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,” the veteran county supervisor (Michael Antonovich) who revealed the information has said. The former fifth-grade history teacher has repeatedly come under fire from his liberal counterparts for publicizing statistics that confirm the devastation illegal immigration has had on the region. Antonovich, who has served on the board for nearly three decades, represents a portion of the county that is roughly twice the size of Rhode Island and has about 2 million residents.
His district is simply a snippet of a larger crisis. Nationwide, Americans pay around $22 billion annually to provide illegal immigrants with welfare benefits that include food assistance programs such as free school lunches in public schools, food stamps and a nutritional program (known as WIC) for low-income women and their children. Tens of billions more are spent on other social services, medical care, public education and legal costs such as incarceration and public defenders.

Reagan amnesty for every illegal (lets not forget who started this)

It cracks me up when people blame the Dem's for our illegal problems.

The problem started when RONALD REAGAN and GEORGE H.W. BUSH rewarded 5,000,000 illegal aliens for breaking our laws by giving them amnesty in 1986 and making them full citizens.

That's when the floodgates opened and millions more migrated north waiting for the next amnesty which REPUBLICANS tried to pass in 2006.

GEORGE W. BUSH, our sitting president actually went on the news and announced that we couldn't kick out the 12,000,000 illegals who are here.

That was the first time in my 43 years I have ever heard a sitting president announce that we weren't going to enforce our laws. And it was broadcast all over South America and it became a free for all.

I watched the neighborhood I lived in turn into Tijuana over the past 10 years and the blame can be placed squarely on REAGAN and the REPUBLICANS back in 1986 who stupidly thought that rewarding people for violating our immigration laws was a smart idea and no one else would come expecting amnesty after 1986.

It's true. it was a qualified amnesty, but the documents were very easy to forge.

True Story; I had a friend, an English girl who broke our laws and overstayed her student visa and worked off the books as a receptionist.

When the amnesty came in 86 she realized she qualified and she applied and was given citizenship. She was amazed.

I remember her telling me than in England they would never have rewarded people for breaking the laws because it would encourage others to do the same.

She was like "I came here, overstayed my visa, worked illegally and was rewarded with citizenship. It's insane."

She has since moved back to London but it shows how ridiculous the amnesty was.

The other problem is the 14th amendment creating all the "anchor babies".

If we could get rid of the 14th amendment we might have a fighting chance, but when I see a young pregnant Latina illegal alien pushing a double stroller with two infants and two toddlers walking beside her (which is a common sight in LA) I realize that they are simply going to outbreed us and it is the 14th amendment that is going to be the ruin of society as we know it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One important item you ommited from your post was the fact that the amnesty given in 1986 was not a blanket amnesty. You had to apply for that amnesty and prove that you were in this country continuously for a period of years. A lot of illegals were not able to do that at the time and there were some who probably could have proved continuous residency but decided not to because they were fearful, saw no benefit in doing it, or were just too lazy to do it. The amnesty was not a solution and was probably done on the advise of many of the so called experts that surround a sitting president.

What is a fact is that at that time in 1986 we could not have deported 5 to 6 million illegal immigrants just as today there is no way we are going to be able to deport 12 million or more of them. Officials from China gave us the solution to our immigration problem many years ago. They told us not to make immigration to the U.S. so attractive and no one will come here. This would mean cracking down on those who exploit the immigrants' labor and also taking away all of the freebie benefits that are given to illegals when they get here.

Illegal immigration is a cash cow for many companies in the country. From the foreign language media to the sweat shops in skid row. Government workers also benefit from these people. They cause the schools to get more money from the Federal Government. There are small offices all over the place to give these people immigration advice. Companies that supply money orders for these people to send their money home each week just love the illegals. Slum landlords would hate to see the illegals go because their properties are trashy and unmaintained and the illegals are afraid to complain. The list of beneficiaries to having illegals here is huge.

The really sad thing about the illegals is that the many children they are producing have a very limited future. Their parents are largely illiterate and can't help their kids with school assignments. The parents don't see a need for having an education and therefore the kids don't see the need either. Their female children are encouraged to become mothers at an early age and their male children are brought up with the attitude that it is macho to father lots of children even if you can't afford them. This country is headed for some serious trouble in the future. None of these offspring will be able to help us compete in the world of the future.

Obama Links Immigration Overhaul in 2010 to G.O.P. Backing
By JULIA PRESTON
President Obama said Thursday that he would proceed with an overhaul of the immigration system this year if he could attract substantial Republican support. But a leading Republican who supports an overhaul said an immigration bill could not go forward if the president used a legislative shortcut sidestepping Republicans to pass his health care bill.
Mr. Obama spent most of the afternoon in meetings on immigration, including one with Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, and Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, who have been holding closed-door sessions over the last six months to draw up a bill to revamp the immigration system.
The White House called the meetings to show its continued interest in an immigration overhaul, an issue that has languished since last year, in advance of a rally that immigrant groups have called for March 21 in Washington. The groups, who want to see immigration legislation passed this year, have pitched the rally as a maximum show of force with a turnout, they say, of 100,000 people.
The two senators said they gave Mr. Obama a three-page outline of the huge bill they are preparing, and they asked for his help to find additional Republican sponsors in the Senate.
But Mr. Graham, in a statement, said he had told Mr. Obama “in no uncertain terms” that the immigration debate “could come to a halt for the year” if the president moved to pass health care legislation by a method known as reconciliation, which requires a majority of 51 senators instead of 60 and would in practice require no Republican votes.
The White House has been laying the groundwork for a possible reconciliation vote since losing its supermajority in January after the Massachusetts Senate election and finding no Republican support. There was no indication Thursday that Mr. Obama would reconsider that in light of Mr. Graham’s warning.
In a separate meeting, the president sat down for more than an hour with immigrant advocates, labor leaders and Roman Catholic and evangelical Christian leaders who support an overhaul that would give legal status to millions of illegal immigrants. At a press conference in Washington on Monday, representatives of some of those groups publicly denounced Mr. Obama’s immigration policies for the first time.
Most of the advocates emerged heartened from the meeting with Mr. Obama, if only because he gave them so much time. They said the president offered a sober account of the political difficulties of an immigration bill this year, coming after the protracted battle over health care. Apparently chastened by that fight, he said that an immigration overhaul could not move forward without support from Republican lawmakers lined up ahead of time, participants said.
Mr. Obama pledged to begin rallying support from Republicans, but he also called on Mr. Graham and the immigrant advocacy and business groups to focus their efforts on building bipartisan support.
Joshua Hoyt, executive director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, said of the president after the meeting: “He remains fully committed to pass immigration reform. We had a very frank discussion about the difficulties.”
In addition to opening a path to legal status for an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants, the bill Mr. Schumer and Mr. Graham are shaping would tighten enforcement against hiring illegal immigrant workers by creating a national biometric identification card for all workers, including American citizens and legal immigrants.
The bill would also further strengthen border enforcement and create a new temporary-worker program to allow immigrants to come to work in the United States in the future.
How to manage future immigration has been one of the most contentious issues for the senators, and they asked Mr. Obama for his help in breaking the logjam.
The labor movement has remained united behind a proposal for an autonomous commission to monitor the labor markets and determine how many visas for foreign workers would be needed in a given year. Unions oppose any expanded program to allow in temporary immigrant guest workers, arguing that those programs leave immigrants vulnerable to abuse and undercut American workers.
Business groups oppose labor’s proposal, favoring an approach that would allow the markets, rather than a government agency, to determine labor demand. They also want a greatly expanded program for temporary guest workers.
While top leaders from the Service Employees International Union, the United Food and Commercial Workers, and the Unite Here unions were in the meeting with Mr. Obama, officials from the A.F.L.-C.I.O. said they were surprised and disappointed that they had not been invited.
In advance of the March 21 rally, young immigrants in several cities have been holding “coming out parties” where they disclose publicly that they do not have legal immigration status. In downtown Chicago on Wednesday, eight immigrants made such declarations. Among them was Tania Unzeuta, a 26-year-old student from Mexico, who stood by a sign that read “Undocumented and Unafraid.”

Support American Workers - Enforce Immigration Laws
It is all about jobs…or at least that is what President Obama and leadership in Congress is telling us. So, why with unemployment hovering around 10 percent, are they reducing worksite enforcement of immigration laws?
Even though worksite enforcement opens jobs for Americans, when illegal workers are caught, they're released, so they can take another job. If that's not bad enough, the Obama Administration thinks it's OK to continue admitting more than a million foreign workers a year to take American jobs – all while American citizens and legal workers struggle to find decent wages to pay their mortgages and put food on the table.
FAIR, as part of The Coalition for the American Worker, has just launched two new TV ads that are running in markets around the country asking the President why he and leaders in Congress refuse to enforce our immigration laws, especially when Americans need jobs! Check out the ads below and make sure to forward them to your friends, family members, and colleagues.

Anchor Baby Power
La Voz de Aztlan has produced a video in honor of the millions of babies that have been born as US citizens to Mexican undocumented parents. These babies are destined to transform America. The nativist CNN reporter Lou Dobbs estimates that there are over 200,000 "Anchor Babies" born every year whereas George Putnam, a radio reporter, says the figure is closer to 300,000. La Voz de Aztlan believes that the number is approximately 500,000 "Anchor Babies" born every year.
The video below depicts the many faces of the "Anchor Baby Generation". The video includes a fascinating segment showing a group of elementary school children in Santa Ana, California confronting the Minutemen vigilantes. The video ends with a now famous statement by Professor Jose Angel Gutierrez of the University of Texas at Austin.

The massive corporate mouthpiece the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is holding a “North American Forum” to lay out its “shared vision” for the United States, Canada and Mexico – which is to say a borderless, pro-business super-state in which U.S. sovereignty will be dissolved. Undercover investigators have found incredibly lax security and enforcement at U.S. border crossings, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office. This report comes on the heels of a separate report by U.C. San Diego that shows tougher border security efforts aren’t deterring illegal entries to the United States.

Obama soft on illegals enforcement

Arrests of illegal immigrant workers have dropped precipitously under President Obama, according to figures released Wednesday. Criminal arrests, administrative arrests, indictments and convictions of illegal immigrants at work sites all fell by more than 50 percent from fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2009.

The figures show that Mr. Obama has made good on his pledge to shift enforcement away from going after illegal immigrant workers themselves - but at the expense of Americans' jobs, said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the Republican who compiled the numbers from the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE). Mr. Smith, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, said a period of economic turmoil is the wrong time to be cutting enforcement and letting illegal immigrants take jobs that Americans otherwise would hold.

But President Obama lit the fuse in February when he signed the massive expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). That law loosened eligibility requirements for legal immigrants and their children by watering down document and evidentiary standards – making it easy for individuals to use fake Social Security cards to apply for benefits with little to no chance of getting caught. In addition, Obama’s S-CHIP expansion revoked Medicaid application time limits that were part of the 1996 welfare reform law. Immigration activists see the provisions as first steps toward universal coverage for illegals.

• Appointment of several illegal alien advocates to important administration posts.
• Watering down of the 287(g) program to limit local law in their own jurisdictions.
• Health care reform that mandates a “public option” for newly-arrived legal immigrants as well as illegal aliens.

OBAMA'S GIFT TO HIS BILLIONAIRES - Amnesty From Prison & Amnesty to Keep Wages Depressed

MEXICANOCCUPATION.blogspot.com

IN THE GLOBAL MELTDOWN CAUSED BY BANKSTERS THAT HAS CREATED 20% UNEMPLOYMENT IN PARTS OF MEXICAN OCCUPIED CALIFORNIA, HALF-TRILLION DOLLAR HOME VALUE DEVASTATION, THE BILLIONAIRES THAT OWN THE POLITICIANS ARE DOIN’ GOOD!
THE REST OF US THAT WILL PAY FOR THE BAILOUTS, AMNESTY AND BANKSTER RAPE AND PILLAGE ARE NOT! WE WON’T BE EVER AGAIN! THAT’S HOW LONG WE WILL BE PAYING FOR THEIR SINS!

Mexican billionaire, owner of Mexico’s phone monopoly, has no surpassed BILL GATES in billions.
Bill Gates has worked for endless boatloads of Chinese and Indians nationals tech workers and wants ALL limits on these worker imports lifted, wages cannot be depressed enough for our billionaires.
Gates has repeatedly gone to D.C. to speak to congress, where they salivate over the very sight of him, as they do all billionaires and potential donors.
Gates also wants AMNESTY and OPEN BORDERS. Before Gates went to D.C. he paid a “state visit” to Narcomex to implore the Mexican government to work hard for open borders, amnesty and the ever expansion of the Mexican welfare system in the United States. Like Mexico needs another billionaire demanding more illegals cross our borders?!?!? WE ARE ALREADY MEXICO’S WELFARE AND PRISON SYSTEM.

World’s billionaires grew 50 percent richer in 2009
By Andre Damon
12 March 2010
2009 will be remembered by millions of ordinary people as the year they lost their job, their house, or the prospect of an education. For the rich, however, it was a bonanza.
The world’s billionaires saw their wealth grow by 50 percent last year, and their ranks swell to 1,011, from 793, according to the latest Forbes list of billionaires.
The combined net worth of these 1,011 individuals increased to $3.6 trillion, up $1.2 trillion from the year before. On average, each billionaire had his or her wealth increase by $500 million.
Four hundred and three billionaires reside in the United States. They constitute just 0.00014 percent of the country’s total population, but control 8 percent of the national wealth. Each of these individuals holds over 300 million times more wealth than the average US resident.
The list included 21 hedge fund managers, who as a group more than made up for whatever losses they incurred in 2008. Some of them, including James Simons, John Arnold, and George Soros, raked in profits during both the collapse and the market recovery.
Topping the list of wealthiest hedge fund managers was John Paulson, at $32 billion. Paulson made billions in 2008 by betting that the housing market would collapse, and billions more through the stock market recovery of 2009.
Only one of the 21 hedge fund managers on last year’s Forbes list fell off. This was Raj Rajaratnam of Galleon Group, who was arrested last year on charges of insider trading.
Hedge fund managers James Simons, John Arnold, and David Tepper got average returns of 62, 52, and 31 percent, respectively, between 2008 and 2010. David Tepper made $2.3 billion over the past year, while John Paulson’s wealth grew by $6 billion.
The number of US billionaires grew to 403, up from 359 last year. The Asia-Pacific region had 234 billionaires, up from 130 the last year. Europe has 248 billionaires, despite having twice the population of the United States.
The 1,011 people on this list command a phenomenal amount of personal wealth. Their holdings are larger than the gross domestic products of every country besides China, Japan, and the United States. The wealth of the 403 US billionaires could more than cover the 2008 US federal deficit, with money left over for the states.
While the number of billionaires on the list is just short of the all-time high of 1,125 reached in 2008, it represents a phenomenal rebound. At this rate, the number of billionaires will once again hit record levels next year.
Carlos Slim Helú, a Mexican telecommunications tycoon, moved up to the first position on the list at $53.5 billion, beating out Americans Bill Gates ($53 billion) and Warren Buffet ($47 billion). The wealth of all three men rose dramatically. Over the last several years Slim Helú made roughly $27 million a day compared with the average daily income of $16.50 for Mexican workers.
The rich in India and China gained among the most. “For the first time, mainland China has the most billionaires outside the US,” Forbes said in its statement. “US citizens still dominate the ranks, but their grip is slipping.”
The hedge fund managers and financiers on the list benefitted directly from the bank bailout, which transferred huge sums of public funds into the accounts of the largest financial companies. But the billionaires in every other industry were the indirect recipients the government’s wealth transfer program also.
The Wall Street Journal, commenting on the figures, wrote, “How did the world’s rich get so much richer? Stock markets…. In short, what the stock market had taketh, the stock market hath giveth back–-at least to the billionaires.”
But the stock market recovery itself is no accident; it was the direct outcome of policies pursued by both US political parties. The bailout has been financed by a policy of fiscal austerity and high unemployment. The rapid increase in the wealth of the billionaires is the result of the impoverishment of tens of millions; it is the other face of mass unemployment, poverty, utility shutoffs, and foreclosures.
Aside from direct government handouts to the banks and super-rich, the major driver of the recovery of corporate profits—and thus the stock market—was productivity growth and corporate downsizing.
In 2009, the unemployment rate rose from 7.7 to 10 percent, three million jobs were lost, and wages fell dramatically. Millions of families lost their homes and became dislocated. But productivity, the amount of output that is produced from each hour of work, rose by 7 percent.
The money freed up through the destruction of social programs, higher employee output, and corporate restructuring has found its way into the pockets of the people on Forbes’ list.

CARLOS SLIM HELU IS THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD
Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in the world
The annual Forbes billionaire list says Mexico's Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in the world, finally edging out Microsoft founder Bill Gates and signaling the rising wealth in developing nations.

Mexico's Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in the world.
The annual Forbes billionaire list puts the portly cigar-smoker just ahead of Bill Gates, who held the title for 14 of the past 15 years.
Shares of Slim’s telecommunications company America Movil surged 35 percent over the year, bringing his fortune up $18.5 billion in the past 12 months to $53.5 billion, according to the Forbes rich list released Wednesday.
Gates is worth $53 billion, up $13 billion from a year ago. Warren Buffett – the world’s richest man in 2008 – now ranks third, with his fortune growing $10 billion over the year to $47 billion.
Slim, 70, is the first man from a developing nation to become the world’s richest person, but is only the tip of the iceberg for poorer nation's billionaires as America's share of billionaires dropped to 40 percent from 45 percent of the total a year ago.
Over the past year, Taiwan tripled its number of billionaires to 18, Turkey more than doubled its own to 28, and Brazil and Russia doubled their billionaires to 18 and 62, respectively. For the first time China, with 64 billionaires, has the most outside the US.
Eight Indians and 27 chinese made Forbes magazine’s latest list of the top 100 billionaires. Two Indians – energy tycoon Mukesh Ambani and steel mogul Lakshmi Mittal – sit in the top 5.
Slim has dominated Mexico’s telephone industry since he bought the state-run telephone company Telmex in 1990 and spun it off into America Movil. Today in Mexico Telmex controls about 80 percent of fixed lines, while America Movil services over 70 percent of the nation’s cellphone users.
But Slim’s title is jarring to many, since more than 50 million of Mexico’s 107 million people live in poverty, according to Mexican government monitor Coneval.
"This is shameful," Ernesto Villanueva, 45, of Mexico City, told the Associated Press. "This is part of what is wrong with the Mexican political system and the corruption in the circles of power, that allow there to be a few rich people and millions of poor."
But to Slim, the criticism and the richest man title appear to mean little.
"This is a number brought out by a magazine that doesn't concern us, or worry us," his son-in-law Arturo Elias Ayub, an executive at Telmex, told the AP.
In 2007, Slim was asked about his failure to take No. 1 on the list.
"Me es impermeable," he replied: "I'm impervious to that."

A frustrated caucus keeps complaints quiet
By Michael Leahy
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, March 12, 2010; A01
A year ago, members of the Congressional Black Caucus openly wept at Barack Obama's inauguration. Slowly, that euphoria has given way to frustration that his administration has not done more for black America. Questions about how to elect him have been replaced by questions about how to prod him.
For many, it is the surprise of a political lifetime that they find themselves wrestling with such quandaries. Alternately puzzled and disgruntled, CBC members say key people in the Obama administration have taken them for granted, in the belief that black members of Congress have no stomach for a fight with the country's first black president.
"We concluded they were just kind of listening to us and that then they would go back [to their offices] and conclude that we would do nothing," Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), the vice chairman of the CBC, said of one dispute. "Because they had concluded there's a black president in the White House and that, to some degree, the Black Caucus, you know, was constrained in expressing its desires. After a while, we said, 'Hey, we see what's going on and it's nothing.' "
On Thursday, CBC members participated in a rare one-hour policy meeting with Obama at the White House to discuss their concerns, most notably their disappointment over a jobs bill that they regard as largely a package of tax breaks for employers, noticeably bereft of job-training programs, new infrastructure projects and summer employment opportunities for youth. Such issues are vital to the CBC, many of whose members represent districts with high levels of unemployment.
In interviews with aides and members afterward, Obama was described as receptive to their message, even though he did not make any large-scale commitments. "He said he knew what unemployment looks like in 'my own neighborhood in Chicago,' " recounted Cleaver, who stressed that he was speaking only for himself. "He said he wanted to do things as quickly as possible."
"There was no contention at all," said Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.). "The president is very clearly focused on jobs and job creation."
A White House official issued a statement that ignored any tensions with CBC members and stressed the administration's goals: "President Obama is working to develop inclusive policies, whether in health care, education or the economy, that will have a broad impact on the American people, and Thursday's meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus was a productive effort toward reaching that goal."
Not withstanding Thursday's kind words, the CBC's list of complaints with the White House runs from policy to personal. Despite the caucus's entreaties, the administration has not provided targeted help to black communities and other struggling areas suffering from disproportionately high unemployment, members complain. Many caucus members say they feel largely ignored by key White House advisers. Their communication with Obama himself is minimal to nonexistent.
Lifting boats
Several CBC members and aides talk derisively of an oft-quoted Obama phrase: that a "rising tide" for America will "lift all boats." They see it as rhetoric intended to justify why the administration has not focused on their communities at a time when unemployment among African Americans has climbed to 16.5 percent. "I can't pass laws that say I'm just helping black folks," Obama told the American Urban Radio Networks. "I'm the president of the United States. What I can do is make sure I'm passing laws that help people, particularly those who are most vulnerable."
Many in the 42-member, all-Democratic CBC passionately disagree. African Americans and Latinos "bear the brunt of this economic recession," said Maxine Waters (Calif.). "We must not shy away from targeted public policy that seeks to address the specific and unique issues facing minority communities."
If Obama hears Waters's point, it is from a distance. Friends of hers say she has had no phone calls from the president and no consistent contact with other administration officials despite her position as a subcommittee chairman and a key player on the House Financial Services Committee. Before Thursday's meeting, neither she nor the CBC as a group had met with the president to discuss the jobs bill.
Several prominent caucus members have expressed doubts about the interest of administration officials in African American issues, referring to figures including Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, and senior adviser David Axelrod. They "haven't had much involvement with minority communities in their careers, said Rep. Donald M. Payne (N.J.). "They've been in suites and boardrooms."
The most important discussions between CBC members and administration officials have been prompted by the threat of political crises.
Such was the case in November when 10 caucus members on the House Financial Services Committee threatened a boycott of an administration-backed financial regulatory reform bill. They wanted additional support for jobless Americans who faced the possibility of losing their homes.
Geithner, Emanuel and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) sat down with the restive CBC members at the Rayburn House Office Building.
The late-afternoon meeting was already tense when Geithner pondered a question about when small banks and emerging African American finance firms might have a chance to participate as key players in a government program. Geithner said that he "was always going to want to provide contracts to qualified people," according to witnesses to the exchange, including Cleaver.
Another person at the meeting -- who spoke on the condition of anonymity -- disputed Cleaver's recollection, saying that Geithner indicated only that participating small banks had to meet "viability standards." The source acknowledged that Geithner's remark set off some disagreement, with a CBC member pointedly telling him that no one had suggested "loosening standards" to accommodate minority-operated banks.
Since their meeting with Geithner and a subsequent boycott of a committee vote on the financial regulatory bill, CBC members have won some accommodations. The bill now includes $3 billion for low-interest loans to unemployed homeowners in danger of foreclosures and $1 billion for neighborhood stabilization programs. "I think the administration needed a very clear signal that we're not messing around here," said Rep. Keith Ellison (Minn.).
Seeking clout
For older CBC members, many of whom remember receiving calls from inveterate gabber and advice-seeker Bill Clinton during his presidency, Obama's more distant style has involved adjustments. Asked whether he has received a call from the president since his inauguration, Payne looked up at his office ceiling and answered slowly: "I can't remember."
Members point to the CBC's four committee chairmanships and 18 subcommittee chairmanships as proof of its clout in the House. But several members said they have few African American contacts with substantial sway in the White House. Some caucus members talk wistfully of the last Democratic administration, where the late commerce secretary Ron Brown could relay CBC concerns to Clinton. "We knew Ron had the president's ear, and he had status," Payne said.
White House officials are quick to dispute the notion that there are no African Americans under Obama who have influence. White House Deputy Chief of Staff Mona Sutphen points to Melody Barnes, the head of the White House Domestic Policy Council, and senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett as African Americans with special access to the president.
Rep. James E. Clyburn (S.C.), an Obama loyalist whom the White House asked to speak to The Washington Post for this article, said he is "very comfortable" with Jarrett. He voices no complaints about the administration's strategies for dealing with high unemployment among African Americans, noting how the stimulus package has benefited parts of South Carolina.
Caucus member generally take pains to distinguish their misgivings about some of the president's top advisers from their personal commitment to Obama. Cleaver views the prospect of Obama's 2012 reelection campaign as a referendum on the nation's comfort level with an African American at the helm. "He's got to succeed," Cleaver said, emotion putting a catch in his voice.
But Cleaver, Payne and other CBC members acknowledge the paradox they face. How can you express criticism of the administration without eventually confronting the man at the top?
Some say that any public airing of their disagreements with Obama runs the risk of politically damaging the president and ultimately slowing the advancement of other African Americans. "He's ours. He has to be more careful because he is the first black ever to be president," said Rep. Diane Watson (Calif.). ". . . I want to help him, to protect him."
Others argue that the president has spent too much time trying to appease Republicans. "His detractors and political opponents want to try to cast him in the role of being some sort of partisan for African American issues," Ellison said. "I think what he needs to do is just accept the fact that his detractors would say he couldn't swim if he walked on water. . . . So why break your neck trying to please them?"
In the wake of a recent report in the New York Times that raised questions about CBC fundraising practices and the decision by Rep. Charles B. Rangel (N.Y.) to give up his House Ways and Means chairmanship amid an ethics scandal, CBC members worry whether the administration will be willing to risk political capital on their behalf.
Obama has a 91 percent approval rating among African Americans, according to the latest Gallup poll. But Clyburn cautions the administration against becoming complacent about that support. "Depressed [African American] voter turnout would be something no White House politico could do anything about in the next election."
Cleaver routinely hears the voices of the desperate in his district. "I've had people at home tell me, 'I thought the president was going to do this and that,' " he said. But the votes of his African American constituents are solid, he insists. "Disappointment doesn't equal disassociation," he said.

AMERICAN LEGEND SAYS NO TO OBAMA'S AMNESTY

After Obama completes the staggering transfer of the economy to BIG BANKERS, the next move for the corporate owned government is to expand the DEMS’ secret expansion of AMNESTY!
There will NEVER be enough unemployment to stop the Mexican invasion and occupation. There will NEVER be enough border crimes, beheading or billions in Mexican drug cartel business to stop the Mexican invasion and occupation. There will NEVER be enough tax payer money paid out in welfare to illegals. There will NEVE3R be enough daily murders of American by illegals, currently approximately 12 murdered every day, to stop the Mexican invasion and occupation.
THAT IS BECAUSE WALL STREET WILL NEVER THINK THAT WAGES FOR STUPID GRINGOS IS LOW ENOUGH!
OBAMA, ALONG WITH FEINSTEIN, BOXER, PELOSI, REID, KENNEDY, WAXMAN, ET AL, are working to sabotage an notions of defending our borders. Their passion remains the same; war, war, war endless profitable war OVER THERE, and undefended borders with NARCOMEX.

The American Legion Takes A Stand Against Illegal Immigration
*
Tags : 9/11, American Legion, Fort Dix, Illegal immigration, National Commander David K. Rehbein, National Security, Terrorism, Terrorists, The American Legion Policy on Immigration: A Strategy to Address Illegal Immigration in the United States, Veterans Organizations

The America Legion recently released a statement on ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, a very pointed statement. The Legion published their policy in a 30 page booklet, spelling their policy out in detail:
The nation’s largest veterans organization released this week a policy bulletin that takes a firm stand against illegal immigration and calls on its members to hold elected officials accountable for implementing and enforcing U.S. immigration law.

The 30-page bulletin is officially titled, “The American Legion20Policy on Immigration: A Strategy to Address Illegal Immigration in the United States.”
It is about time that a group who stands up for veterans of all services, whether they served in peacetime or wartime took a tough stand on a problem that is overwhelming this country. We have roughly 25 million veterans in this country who served honorably to protect the legal residents of this country, not the people who invade our borders nearly unchecked.
More from WND on the American Legion:
“The American Legion members have served in the U.S. Armed Forces throughout the world so that Americans can be safe at home,” the organization’s website explains. “This gives them a unique perspective to the threat that open borders present to their homeland.”
“America is a nation built by immigrants and the American Legion recognizes and celebrates that,” said National Commander David K. Rehbein in a press release. “We do take strong issue, however, with illegal immigration. It’s a matter of national security. The 9/11 hijackers and three of the men who plotted to kill innocent Americans at Ft. Dix were perfect examples of terrorists exploiting our weak immigration laws and our lack of enforcement. This booklet is a good reminder that America has a serious problem that needs to be addressed.”
The Legion’s stance on illegal immigration is clearly stated o n page 1 of the booklet, it stands alone:
“The American Legion is opposed to any person or persons being in this country illegally, regardless of race, sex, creed, color or national origin,” the bulletin states. “We believe the current laws governing immigration should be enforced impartially and equally.”
The America Legion has a long history that dates back to Theodore Roosevelt. The Legion knows something about supporting veterans and the laws of this country. Read on:
Originally founded in 1919 on an idea proposed by Theodore Roosevelt, Jr. (the president of the same name’s eldest son), the Legion has now grown to a membership of more than 2.6 million wartime veterans organized in more than 14,000 posts nationwide.
The policy bulletin explains, “Legionnaires subscribe to a creed, ‘To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order and to foster and perpetuate a 100 percent Americanism.’ These words are recited in unison at Legion meetings and represent a continuing contract of service to benefit America and it is this commitment by Legionnaires that is the fuel for action on illegal immigration and other national security concerns facing this country.”
The Legion hopes the policy booklet will educate the American public on how “the security, economy and social fabric of the United States of America is=2 0seriously threatened by individuals who are illegally in this country.”
“Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime,” the booklet states. “The poor, minorities, children and individuals with little education are particularly vulnerable. It causes an enormous drain on public services, depresses wages of American workers, and contributes to population growth that, in turn, contributes to school overcrowding and housing shortages. Directly and indirectly, U.S. taxpayers are paying for illegal immigration.”
In financial terms, the booklet cites a report by the Center for Immigration Studies that claims the average illegal alien household in 2003 paid approximately $4,200 in federal taxes while, on average, created $7,000 in costs at the federal level.
The booklet does highlight a real problem that the USA faces despite the formation of the Department of Homeland Security. It spells out that it is about educating all people on the dearth of security issues still face this country today. Not only did they publish this booklet for education purposes but it also contains language that discusses ways to prevent these security issues:
In response to what it sees as a contributing factor to crime, terrorism, unemployment and depressed wages, the Legion proposes the following five-point strategy urging the federal government to enact the following steps:
*
1. Secure the borders and other points of entry in the United States, including construction of a physical barrier and sufficient Border Patrol presence.
*
2. Eliminate the jobs magnet and social services benefits that draw illegal immigrants to the U.S. by enforcing laws sanctioning employers who hire illegal aliens, implementing employment eligibility verification and eliminating government benefits for illegal aliens. (47% of those with a job in Mex occupied Los Angeles are ILLEGALS!)
*
3. Eliminate amnesty laws that permit illegal aliens to break the law and remain in the U.S.
*
4. Reduce the U.S. illegal alien population by attrition through workplace enforcement, interagency and interstate cooperation, rejection of driver’s license plans, mandating English as national language and establishing parameters for noncriminal deportations. (LA RAZA WHORES, FEINSTEIN, BOXER, PELOSI, WAXMAN, AND CLINTON HAVE LONG PUSHED FOR DRIVER’S LICENSE de facto citizenship for ILLEGALS, ALONG WITH NO ENGLISH ONLY, AND NO ID TO VOTE!)
*
5. Screen and track foreign visitors legally entering the United States. The plan further calls for reforms to current legal immigration policy, including alteration of the non-immigrant visa program that allows some nations’ citizens entrance to the U.S. without a visa application, elimination of the visa lottery that randomly approves visas from countries with low immigration rates and expanding visa allowances for seasonal and temporary workers.
The five step program is a good program. It is workable with some change in legislation and enforcement of current laws. It becomes more important when one considers the following report from WND:
Costs for securing the nation’s borders are expected to increase 20.6 percent in fiscal year 2009. These include expenses for border patrol, electronic surveillance, the border fence and other security needs. President Bush allocated $44.3 billion for the Department of Homeland Security – a 4.5 percent increase from last year’s budget of $42.4 billion.
While the U.S. builds a fence across much of the border, many illegals are taking a different route. Underground,” Rubenstein reveals. “Authorities have discovered dozens of illegal tunnels across the international border in recent years. Smuggling of drugs, weapons, and immigrants takes place daily through these underground passageways.”
Illegal aliens also use drainage systems to travel across the U.S.-Mexico border – from El Paso to San Diego.
“One tunnel, actually a system of two half-mile passages connecting Tijuana with San Diego, is by comparison a superhighway,” he wrote.
While the Border Patrol attempts to stop these underground incursions with steel doors, cameras and sensors, harsh weather conditions and human smugglers destroy the equipment and barriers.
These costs, and the expenses of providing “enhanced driver’s licenses” as alternative passports for citizens, RFID chips, government databases and watch lists are expected to soar.
In his research, Rubenstein finds that the average immigrant household generates a fiscal debt of $3,408 after feder al benefits and taxes are considered. At the state and local level, the fiscal debt amounts to $4.398 per immigrant household.
“There are currently about 36 million immigrants living in about 9 million households, so the aggregate deficit attributable to immigrants comes to $70.3 billion,” he writes. “… Immigrants could deplete the amount of funds available for infrastructure by as much as $70 billion per year.”
Rubenstein cites figures from the U.S. Census Bureau, projecting that the U.S. population will reach 433 million by 2050 – increasing 44 percent, or 135 million, from today’s numbers.
A full 82 percent of this increase will be directly attributable to new immigrants and their U.S.-born children.
“The brutal reality is that no conceivable infrastructure program can keep pace with that kind of population growth,” he wrote. “The traditional ’supply-side’ response to America’s infrastructure shortage – build, build, build – is dead, dead, dead. Demand reduction is the only viable way to close the gap between the supply and demand of public infrastructure.”
He concludes, “Immigration reduction must play a role.”
The five step program that the Legion proposes is a sound one. It will require the federal government to tighten immigration policies. The policies don’t appear to require bigger government. It does require ou r Democratic-led government to take a tough stand on illegal immigration, one I believe they will never take. Since our government at this point in time will never toughen the laws, this booklet will go largely ignored by our representatives in DC and that is the shame.

Mexico drug traffickers corrupt politics
The cult-like La Familia Michoacana has contaminated city halls across one state, federal officials say. It sometimes decides who runs and who doesn't, who lives and who dies.
By Tracy Wilkinson

May 31, 2009

Reporting from Patzcuaro, Mexico — There are few places in Mexico that better illustrate the way traffickers have corrupted the political system from its very foundation than Michoacan, the home state of President Felipe Calderon.

A relatively new and particularly violent group, La Familia Michoacana, is undermining the electoral system and day-to-day governance of this south-central state, pushing an agenda that goes beyond the usual money-only interests of drug cartels.

Whether by intimidation, purchase or direct order, drug gangs can sometimes dictate who is a candidate and who is not, and put some of their own people in races -- a perversion, critics say, of democracy itself.

Just last week it became clear how deeply embedded La Familia is. Federal authorities detained 10 mayors and 20 other local officials as part of a drug investigation, saying the organized-crime group has contaminated city halls across the state. The roundup comes at the height of the electoral season, as Michoacan and the rest of Mexico approach local and national contests July 5.

Dozens of mayors, city hall officials and politicians have been killed or abducted in Michoacan as La Familia has extended its control in the last couple of years.

When congressional candidate Gustavo Bucio Rodriguez was slain at his gasoline station last month, authorities went out of their way to convince political leaders that he was the victim of common crime, showing them a surveillance tape of the killing by a lone gunman.

A few days earlier, the message was unmistakable. Nicolas Leon, a two-time mayor of Lazaro Cardenas, site of Michoacan's huge port, was tortured and shot to death. Left on his body was a message signed "FM" (Familia Michoacana) warning that supporters of the Zetas, the enforcement arm of a rival trafficking group, would meet the same fate.

Unlike some drug syndicates, La Familia goes beyond the production and transport of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine and seeks political and social standing. It has created a cult-like mystique and developed pseudo-evangelical recruitment techniques that experts and law enforcement authorities say are unique in Mexico.

No party has been spared its influence or interference, politicians of all stripes said in a series of interviews conducted before the arrests of the mayors.

"It is a way to win power with fear, where the authorities either don't have the capability to fight it, or have the capability but not the inclination," said German Tena, president of the Michoacan branch of the country's ruling National Action Party.

"There are mayors and politicians who 'let things happen,' and there are some who have sold their soul to the devil," said a high-ranking Michoacan state official who agreed to discuss the sensitive topic of corruption in exchange for anonymity.

Generally, though, traffickers' political influence in Michoacan has less to do with winning office and more with controlling officeholders, to create a buffer of protection that allows their business to proceed unimpeded, said a security advisor to Calderon.

Several political leaders said they tell candidates to keep a low profile and counsel supporters not to be too public about their endorsements. And they rarely publicize the illegalities they see.

"If we know or hear that a candidate is mixed up with narcos, we are not going to denounce it," said Fabiola Alanis, who heads the Democratic Revolution Party in Michoacan. "It is not my job. It would put my candidates in danger. There is nothing to guarantee that they would wake up alive."

The Obama administration recently added La Familia to its "kingpin" list, a designation that makes it easier for U.S. authorities to go after its assets, including any money in U.S.-owned banks.

"La Familia is absolutely a priority," a senior U.S. law enforcement official said. With its swift rise to the short list of dangerous cartels, La Familia is "a modern success story in Mexican narcotics trafficking," the official added.

And with similar speed, La Familia has established footholds in the United States. The organization has drug-running operations in 20 to 30 cities and towns across the country, including Los Angeles, the official said.

For decades, Michoacan has been popular with traffickers, who were attracted to its fertile soil, abundant water, the rugged hillsides that provide cover and the Pacific port that eases transport. Especially in the rough, sparsely populated southern tier of the state known as the Tierra Caliente (Hot Land), a few gangs profited from vast marijuana plantations and, later, dozens of methamphetamine labs.

La Familia emerged this decade as a local partner of the so-called Gulf cartel, whose operatives were moving into the region along with their ruthless paramilitary force, the Zetas. La Familia and the Zetas gradually muscled out most of the other gangs, and La Familia announced its dominance by tossing five severed heads onto the floor of a dance hall in the Michoacan city of Uruapan in September 2006. The gruesome calling card soon became all too common in areas where drug traffickers settle accounts.

Upon assuming the presidency in December of that year, Calderon launched the first of tens of thousands of troops against drug traffickers here.

Nonetheless, La Familia is stronger today than ever. It has expanded into the neighboring states of Guerrero, Queretaro and Mexico, which abuts the national capital, Mexico City, while battling remaining pockets of the Gulf cartel.

La Familia also has steadily diversified into counterfeiting, extortion, kidnapping, armed robbery, prostitution and car dealerships. The group offers money or demands bribes; increasingly, people in Michoacan pay protection money to La Familia in lieu of taxes to the government.

At least 83 of Michoacan's 113 municipalities are compromised by narcos, said a Mexican intelligence source speaking on condition of anonymity.

Purported leaders include Nazario Moreno Gonzalez, "El Mas Loco" (The Craziest), who is described as a religious zealot who carries a self-published collection of aphorisms (his "bible," authorities say) and insists that the group's traffickers and hit men lead lives free of drugs and alcohol.

Another leader, Dionicio Loya Plancarte, "El Tio" (The Uncle), is a former military officer. Both have million-dollar bounties on their heads.

They recruit at drug rehab centers and indoctrinate followers with an ideology akin to religious fundamentalism, complete with group prayer sessions. Some armed guards wear uniforms with the FM logo, witnesses say. Failure by a recruit to live by the rules is said to be punishable by death.

Moreno Gonzalez has also forbidden the sale and consumption of methamphetamine in Michoacan because it is such a destructive drug. It is for export only, primarily to the U.S. The Mexican army recently seized 200 pounds of ready-to-ship meth in a single raid, and the attorney general's office has identified 39 labs in the state.

Another leader, Rafael Cedeño Hernandez, was captured last month while he and more than 40 other alleged La Familia associates were celebrating a baptism in a fancy hotel in Morelia, the state capital. They were still in their party clothes -- Cedeño in a crisp white guayabera shirt, one woman in a yellow fluffy frock -- when police paraded them, handcuffed, before television cameras.

Cedeño's brother, Daniel, was running for Congress. After the arrest, he quit the race.

Daniel Cedeño Hernandez was not the only candidate for national office accused of having ties to drug traffickers. Valentin Rodriguez, a powerful two-time mayor running for Congress in a district around Patzcuaro, here in central Michoacan, has fended off repeated accusations that he has worked with La Familia.

"I am completely clean," Rodriguez told Mexican journalists in early April when the accusations surfaced again. "If those [jerks] have proof, let them show it," he said.

Efforts during the last two weeks of April to reach Rodriguez, who goes by the nickname The Dagger, were unsuccessful. He grew up so poor, people who know him say, that he couldn't afford to go to school. Today he has the largest avocado-packing plant in Michoacan, worth, by his own account, $30 million.

Rodriguez, who represents the Institutional Revolutionary Party, has acknowledged that he was questioned by federal prosecutors investigating drug trafficking. He was never formally charged.

Last week, another congressional candidate was gunned down (he survived) in Michoacan; Julio Cesar Godoy, a congressional candidate who is the brother of the state's governor, was hauled in for questioning as part of the narco-politics investigation; and the body of a founding member of Godoy's party was discovered in neighboring Guerrero a month after he was abducted.

In 2007, two Labor Party candidates in a local race were intercepted on a road in the Tierra Caliente by gunmen who handed a cellphone to one of them. At the other end was this candidate's just-kidnapped wife, begging for her life. The demand: Drop out of the party and run on behalf of another party, to ensure its victory. They did, and the party won.

The story is told by Reginaldo Sandoval, president in Michoacan of the Labor Party, who was himself abducted, held for a day and ordered to silence his criticism of the government and organized crime and to leave the state.

"It is difficult for us to work without fear, especially for those candidates who have a possibility of winning," said Sandoval, who remains in Michoacan. "We are at the mercy of the organized criminals and drug traffickers. We have lost the drug war."

Senators give Obama a bipartisan plan on immigration
The president is encouraged, but healthcare politics could jeopardize the proposal.
By Peter Nicholas
March 12, 2010
Reporting from Washington
A pair of influential senators presented President Obama with a three-page blueprint for a bipartisan agreement to overhaul the nation's immigration system, but the proposal's viability is threatened by politics surrounding the healthcare debate.

Sens. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), in a 45-minute meeting Thursday in the Oval Office, also asked for Obama's help in rounding up enough Republican votes to pass an immigration bill this year.

Although details of their blueprint were not released, Graham said the elements included tougher border security, a program to admit temporary immigrant workers and a biometric Social Security card that would prevent people here illegally from getting jobs.

Graham also said the proposal included "a rational plan to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants already in the United States." He did not elaborate on what the plan would be. But in a recent interview, he suggested that onerous measures were unrealistic.

"We're not going to mass-deport people and put them in jail, nor should we," Graham said. "But we need a system so they don't get an advantage over others for citizenship."

In a statement after the Obama meeting, Graham predicted that their effort would collapse if Senate Democrats proceeded with a strategy to pass a healthcare bill through a simple majority vote -- a process known as "reconciliation." Senate leaders say they are committed to doing just that.

"I expressed, in no uncertain terms, my belief that immigration reform could come to a halt for the year if healthcare reconciliation goes forward," said Graham, who portrayed the document handed to Obama as "a work in progress."

Graham added: "For more than a year, healthcare has sucked most of the energy out of the room. Using reconciliation to push healthcare through will make it much harder for Congress to come together on a topic as important as immigration."

In their own statements, Obama and Schumer sounded more upbeat.

The president said: "Today I met with Sens. Schumer and Graham and was pleased to learn of their progress in forging a proposal to fix our broken immigration system. I look forward to reviewing their promising framework, and every American should applaud their efforts to reach across party lines and find common sense answers to one of our most vexing problems."

Immigration has gotten scant attention of late. Obama had initially promised to address the issue in his first year, but the deadline slipped as he struggled to pass a healthcare bill. Latino voters, who were a crucial piece of Obama's winning coalition in the 2008 campaign, have grown impatient. Some advocates of an immigration overhaul warn that Latino voters will stay home in the November mid-term elections if the issue is delayed again.

In an attempt to defuse the anger, Obama met with a group of 14 immigration advocates in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, hours before his meeting with the two senators.

Afterward, some of the guests described the atmosphere in the room as tense. They said they told Obama that families were being severed by widespread deportations. In the fiscal year that ended in September, the U.S. deported 388,000 illegal immigrants, according to the Department of Homeland Security -- up from 369,000 the year before.

"I don't think the president liked hearing that the immigration system is tearing apart families. But that's our reality," said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum, who attended the meeting.

Obama agreed to have them meet with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to discuss deportation policies, the White House said.

Even without the healthcare obstacle, passing an immigration bill would be difficult. Schumer has been trying to line up additional Republican co-sponsors in hopes of broadening the bill's bipartisan support. None has signed up.

Those who attended the meeting said that Obama committed to helping find Republican votes. But he also conceded that in a polarized Senate, that was a difficult mission.

"He was very frank about the challenge of moving this or anything else in the U.S. Congress," said John Wilhelm, president of the labor union Unite Here.

Mexicans Say Amnesty Will Boost Illegal Immigration
last Updated: Wed, 10/14/2009 - 3:02pm
If President Obama keeps his promise of giving the nation’s 12 million illegal aliens amnesty it will encourage more Mexicans to enter the United States, according to residents of the struggling Latin American country who are undoubtedly rooting for the commander-in-chief’s plan.
The majority of illegal immigrants in the U.S. are from Mexico therefore the president’s reprieve project will greatly affect that nation. Two-thirds of Mexicans say they know someone living in the United States and around one-third have an immediate member of their household or close relative living in the U.S.
A majority of those residing south of the border say legalizing their undocumented countrymen will inspire more Mexicans to head north, according to a recent survey conducted by an internationally known polling and market research company. A vast majority of Mexicans with a relative in the United States said a legalization program would make people they know more likely to go to America illegally.
The results of the survey were made public this week by a research organization dedicated to studying the economic, social, fiscal and demographic impacts of immigration in the U.S. It reveals that nearly one-third of Mexican residents (nearly 40 million people) would like to live in the U.S. and if there was an amnesty a large number would come illegally with the hope of qualifying for a future exoneration.
An amnesty, therefore, would stimulate more illegal immigration which is the last thing this country needs. Furthermore, rewarding those who have violated our nation’s laws with coveted U.S. residency and possibly citizenship demeans the system, especially for those who follow the appropriate steps to come lawfully.
It’s bad enough that U.S. taxpayers annually dish out billions of dollars to educate, medically treat and incarcerate illegal aliens who are, in many cases, depleting local governments. Los Angeles County alone spends more than $1 billion a year, including $48 million a month in welfare costs, to provide services for illegal aliens. The crisis is hardly limited to border states, which have traditionally been the most impacted. Georgia’s skyrocketing illegal population costs taxpayers nearly $2 billion a year.

ILLEGAL population may be as high as 38 million A new report finds the Homeland Security Department "grossly ALIEN POPULATION MAY BE AS HIGH AS 38 MILLION
Study: Illegal alien underestimates" the number of illegal aliens living in the U.S. Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies released a report August 31 that estimates the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is between 8 and 12 million. But the group Californians for Population Stabilization, or CAPS, has unveiled a report estimating the illegal population is actually between 20 and 38 million. Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens. "Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated. Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy."
