Minimum wage increase passes in five states
In Arkansas, an increase in the state minimum wage from $6.25 an hour to $8.50 an hour in 2015 passed by 65 percent to 35 percent, while Republican Tom Cotton defeated incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Pryor by 57 percent to 39 percent. Both Cotton and Pryor had opposed increases in the federal minimum wage, backed by the largest corporation headquartered in Arkansas, low-wage king Wal-Mart.

junior partners in the impoverishment and exploitation of the working class,
suppressing any opposition to the attack on living standards.

this corporate America has enjoyed the full backing of the Obama administration
and both big business parties, which have slashed food stamps and long-term
unemployment benefits. The White House, which orchestrated the slashing of
wages in the auto industry restructuring of 2009, has made the lowering of
living standards for US workers the centerpiece of its so-called revival of
American manufacturing.

In the guise of combating inequality, the Obama administration, acting in behalf of the banks and corporations, is spearheading a social counterrevolution.
And it launched its “Obamacare” health care overhaul, which is already being exposed as a massive attack on health care for tens of millions of workers and a profit bonanza for the insurance companies. The program includes $700 billion in Medicare cuts, opening the door to the gutting of Medicare and Social Security, the two bedrock social programs dating from the 1960s and 1930s.
