Sessions: US Sending Assistant US Attys to Mexican Border to Prosecute Illegals
(CNSNews.com) - Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Wednesday that the Justice Department is sending 35 assistant U.S. attorneys to the U.S.-Mexico border to prosecute illegals entering the country.
In addition to that, 18 immigration judges will be sent to the border to act in a supervisory capacity to move cases along, Sessions said.
In addition to that, 18 immigration judges will be sent to the border to act in a supervisory capacity to move cases along, Sessions said.
“We are announcing today that we are adding 35 assistant United States attorneys to the border to prosecute illegal entries into our country. We’re also announcing that we are moving 16 or 18 actually immigration judges to the border. These are supervisory judges that don’t have existing caseloads and will be able to function full-time on moving these cases,” he said.
“That will be about a 50 percent increase in the number of immigration judges who’ll be handling the asylum claims,” Sessions added.
The attorney general said the administration will not allow the United States to be “overwhelmed.”
“People are not going to caravan or otherwise stampede our border. We need legality and integrity in the system. People should wait their turn, ask to apply lawfully before they enter our country,” Sessions said. “We’re sending a message worldwide: don’t come illegally. Make your claim to enter America in the lawful way and wait your turn.”
“In terms of the people who are here now, is there a place though for a humanitarian concern?” a reporter asked.
“We treat people extremely well, particularly children, and they’re treated with every courtesy,” Sessions said.
“So we’re treating people fine. The question is if you don’t want to have to go through those problems, don’t come unlawfully. It’s not my problem. It’s not the United States Border Patrol’s problem when people try to force their way into the country unlawfully,” he said.
Sessions said the number of illegal border crossers have gone up as the summer approaches, and the administration wants to send the message to the world, especially those in Mexico and Central America, that the United States has a “generous legal system for immigration,” admitting “1.1 million people lawfully each year” and people should “wait their turn.”
AG Sessions Sends 18 Judges, 35 Prosecutors to the Border
The Department of Justice is sending 35 more prosecutors and 18 immigration judges to quickly process illegal immigrants and asylum claims at the border, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Wednesday.
“We are not going to let this country be overwhelmed,” Sessions told reporters at the Main DOJ building in Washington, DC. He added:
People are not going to “caravan” or otherwise stampede our border. We need legality and integrity in the system. People should wait their turn, ask to apply lawfully before they enter our country. So we’re sending a message worldwide: Don’t come illegally. Make your claim to enter America in the lawful way and wait your turn.
Asked by a reporter if there was a “place for a humanitarian concern,” Sessions responded:
We treat people extremely well, particularly children … We have a generous legal immigration system. We admit 1.1 million people lawfully every year.
Four million Americans turn 18 every year.
The extra prosecutors can increase the number of prosecutions of people who try to sneak into the country illegally. The first 11 of those prosecutions was announced Tuesday for caravan migrants who allegedly tried to dodge the immigration process, becoming illegal aliens.
The 18 new immigration judges, whom are being reassigned from supervisory roles at the Executive Office of Immigration Review (EOIR), will provide a 50 percent increase in the department’s ability to process asylum claims, Sessions said. The move comes in addition to the reassignment of about 100 regular immigration judges to temporary “details” on the border to handle new apprehensions last year.
“The Justice Department, under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has made significant reforms and progress in tackling the overwhelming backlog in the immigration court system,” EOIR Director James McHenry, the top official overseeing immigration judges, said in a statement. “We must not let attempts to undermine our lawful immigration system deter that progress, and the men and women at EOIR are proud to play a small role in the Attorney General’s response to the crisis at our Southwest border.”
Currently, border officers are forced into “catch and release” practices because the huge number of migrants with children overwhelms their ability to process and deny asylum requests within the 20-day deadline required by the 1997 Flores court settlement. But with the extra judges, migrants claims’ can be carefully processed by the 20-day deadline, allowing many to be processed, rejected and sent home before they have to be released into the United States for an eventual asylum plea in a courtroom.
The statement was made as border officials begin processing claims by roughly 250 migrants who are part of a “caravan” from Honduras. While none are known to be presenting themselves as part of a persecuted religious, political, or ethnic minority – the type of asylum claimants for whom our asylum laws were written – they are thought to be basing their claims on the ordinary criminal activity in their whom country.
Some polls show widespread support for denying these caravan migrants entry, they may be able to pass the threshold of a plausible claim and remain in the United States while their cases shift through the massive immigration court backlog.
Backlog of immigration court cases reaches 1 million
The director of the office responsible for judicial review of immigration cases says there is now a backlog of more than a million court cases and that there are almost 700,000 delayed deportation actions.
James McHenry, the director of the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which handles immigration cases, said Tuesday that the backlog of active cases is over 692,000 and that the courts have an additional 330,000 cases that have been put into "administrative closure," but that are still before the courts."It would be in addition to those (690,000) cases," he said at a newsmaker event hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies. "There is the possibility of additional cases," he added.Even with hiring new judges, the backlog will take years to clear, he added. The office has 334 judges around the nation and Congress has authorized a total corps of 484. President Trump has sought a total of 700.McHenry, named the director by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has moved to hire judges and streamline the process of handling with the backlog. It's an uphill fight, he revealed, since it can take up to a year to hire a judge and because the court system still uses paper. He has speeded the hiring some and has announced a pilot program to begin shifting from paper to digital files. The backlog of cases jumped under former President Obama as did the backlog of deportations, which is 684,583.
Unbelievable that in the year 2018, they are still using some 19th-century procedures.
No matter. The big problem is that immigration lawyers slow down the process to a crawl. Even if the illegal shows up for his hearing, the lawyer will get continuances and find other ways to delay the proceedings.
The system doesn't need more judges, who will only clog the system even more. The way we deal with illegal immigration must be radically changed, from the border to the courtroom. Even the modest wall proposal that Trump wants considered won't halt the flow of illegals into the U.S. or even slow it down much. Illegals are abusing the refugee and asylum laws to get their foot in the door, only to be released while awaiting a court hearing. Less than 70% of illegals show up for their hearings, which means millions simply melt into and disappear in the U.S. population.
The current system makes a mockery of our sovereignty. Every other nation on earth has control over who gets to come in and who must stay out. It's time to bring sanity to our immigration laws.
Mexican National Illegally Enters U.S. 7 Times -- Now Faces Prison
(CNSNews.com) -- An illegal alien from Mexico unlawfully crossed into the United States six times since 2010 -- each time he was eventually caught and deported -- and now, after his seventh unlawful entry, a grand jury has indicted him and he faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Juan Mendez Patishtan, 34, was removed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials on Oct. 23, 2010, Jan. 26, 2011, March 9, 2011, Sept. 21, 2011, April 5, 2014 and on April 16, 2015.
He was caught again in the United States in April 2018 in Harrison County, West Virginia. A grand jury has indicted Patishtan with one count of "reentry of a removed alien."
The same grand jury indicted illegal alien Filberto Reyes-Vazquez, 49, on the same charge. Reyes-Vazquez, from Mexico, had been removed from the United States in May 2016 but he re-entered illegally and was also found in Harrison County in April 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Reyes-Vasquez also faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

"While walking with her father on a pier in San Francisco in 2015, Steinle was shot by the illegal alien. Steinle pleaded with her father to not let her die, but she soon passed in her father’s arms."

Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute has testified before a Congressional committee that in 2004, 95% of all outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles were for illegal aliens; in 2000, 23% of all Los Angeles County jail inmates were illegal aliens and that in 1995, 60% of Los Angeles’s largest street gang, the 18th Street gang, were illegal aliens. Granted, those statistics are old, but if you talk to any California law enforcement officer, they will tell you it’s much worse today.

7 Illegal Aliens, 2 MS-13 Members Busted in WVa. Drug Ring, Liberal Media Ignore Story
By Michael W. Chapman | May 2, 2018 | 2:25 PM EDT
In a story ignored by the national liberal media, federal law officers of the DEA, FBI, Homeland Security, ATF, and the U.S. Attorney's Office arrested 10 people operating a cocaine distribution ring in West Virginia, seven of whom are illegal aliens, including two who are members of the notoriously violent gang MS-13.
The story did get local and regional coverage but it was completely ignored by the national media, according to a search of the Nexis news database.
The inter-agency investigation started in 2016 and the 10 alleged perpetrators were arrested and charged in early March 2018. Since that time, several of those charged have pleaded guilty.
As explained by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia, "Authorities in West Virginia and Virginia searched more than a dozen properties, seizing 12.5 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of more than $300,000, eleven firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and more than $100,000 in cash."
Those charged on multiple counts in the cocaine distribution network include,
- Rogelio Santacruz Godinez, also known as “Tramposo,” also known as “Trampa,” age 36, of Axton, Virginia, Mexican National

- Kenneth Biermann-Ruz, also known as “Ruz,” also known as “Chile,” age 29, of Martinsburg, West Virginia
“This investigation lasted nearly two years and involved the cooperative efforts of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies," said U.S. Attorney Bill Powell in a press release. "When those efforts were combined with the work of our Assistant U.S. Attorneys the stage was set for results, including the indictments that have now been returned by the Grand Jury."
"We are a small district and task forces, like the one that worked this investigation, are a force multiplier," he said. "I can’t thank the task force, its leaders, and participating agencies enough for their dedicated work in this investigation."
We will "pursue all of those who come into this district thinking they can distribute poison in our communities," said Powell. "Whether that poison is the form of cocaine, like in these indictments, heroin, fentanyl, or methamphetamine, we will relentlessly pursue them."
"This investigation has shown that violent gangs like MS-13 are attempting infiltrate our state," he said. "If you are MS-13, do not come here. We know what you stand for, we will find you, and we will prosecute you for violations of the law."
Do We Have Endless Money? Part 2: Legal Aid for Illegals
Despite pushing bills in several states to create single-payer tax-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, the open-borders lobby has been repeatedly coming up empty with that particular scheme. Where they’ve been far more disturbingly successful, particularly at the local rather than state level, has been in setting up taxpayer-funded legal aid programs to try to keep illegal aliens from being deported. Conveniently for them, it’s also a cash cow from which they can line their own pockets. The combination of self-righteous rhetoric and blatant greed may be one of their most audacious moves yet.
To begin with, as much as they would like the public to be confused about this, no one has a right (constitutional or otherwise) to a publicly-funded lawyer in immigration proceedings. Deporting someone from this country is a civil, administrative process, not criminal. What the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees, as the Supreme Court held in the seminal 1963 case of Gideon v. Wainwright, is that if someone is charged in criminal court and can’t afford a lawyer, they have to be provided with one paid for from public funds, i.e., by the taxpayers. American citizens don’t have the right to a lawyer at taxpayer expense in civildisputes, like in family court, or landlord-tenant court, or even when the IRS sues them for unpaid taxes.
Nonetheless, more and more cities and counties have decided to spend precious tax dollars—overwhelmingly earned and paid for by American citizens and legal residents—on paying lawyers to do whatever they can to keep people here who have no right to be here. The lawyers themselves are mostly committed open-borders zealots, of course, and more than happy to take the money. And it’s not just in the usual suspects like San Francisco, Seattleand Austin, but places like Columbus, Ohio, and Washtenaw County, Michigan, among others.
Particularly outrageous is how often these legal-aid schemes are set up in places that otherwise constantly bemoan their lack of funds to address myriad needs, with their hands out for more tax money from levels of government higher up. The City of Baltimore, for instance, apparently can’t even heat its public schools on its own, yet somehow mysteriously has no problem finding $100,000 somewhere (matched by another $100,000 from an open-borders nonprofit) to provide legal assistance for illegal aliens, all while taking over $1.2 billionin annual handouts from the State of Maryland and over $150 million more from the federal government. That means these cities aren’t just funding legal aid for illegals with their own local money (as bad as that alone would be); they’re actually being subsidized by American taxpayers nationwide to do it.
As much as this has been largely a local phenomenon until now, it’s begun trickling up to the state level. In New York for the past two years, Governor Andrew Cuomo requested, and the state legislature provided, $10 million for the absurdly-named “Liberty Defense Project” to represent illegal aliens at no charge.
And in Vermont, a bill filed in January, Senate Bill 237, would make the state’s public defenders responsible for representing illegal aliens in immigration court, stretching their already scarce resources away from their current constitutional obligations to their clients in criminal court, who are undoubtedly mostly American citizens. The bill has now passed both chambers of the legislature, although in different forms so it’s possible the House and Senate still might not work out their differences before they’re scheduled to adjourn on May 4. If they do, Republican Governor Phil Scott can’t be counted on to veto it. Nominal party affiliation notwithstanding, he proudly signed the Green Mountain State’s sanctuary bill into law last year.
Taxpayers across the country should be up in arms over this growing, insane, harmful, lawless rip-off of their hard-earned money. Literally anything else would be money better spent.

A top special forces colonel for the Guatemalan Army is facing various charges in his own country for allegedly laundering money for the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.
Last month, the Guatemalan government announced the results of a large-scale operation aimed at targeting various cells or cliques of the gang known as Mara Salvatrucha. The operation, “Regional Shield 2,” led to the arrest of 71 top operators. Authorities announced the capture of Colonel Ariel Salvador De Leon, a top-ranking security official and at one time the vice-director for logistics for the Ministry of Defense. The official is believed to have helped top MS-13 financial operators launder large amounts of money and have amassed 13 million Quetzals or roughly $2 million in an eight-year span. The colonel’s salary is 10,000 Quetzals
According to Guatemala’s El Periodico, De Leon had been a Kaibil (Guatemalan special forces) and received training on numerous occasions from U.S. Southern Command. Some of the instruction dealt with countering drug trafficking. Despite what appeared to be a prestigious military career, De Leon is believed to have helped a cell of MS-13 called “Hemster Locos” launder illicit funds. The money came primarily from extorted local businesses. One of the ways described by investigators dealt with the sale of cars taken from the U.S. to Guatemala. The cars were fixed at a local shop and then sold off.
As part of their investigation, authorities claim that De Leon met with Emigdio Roda Dias, a top financial operator for MS-13. Roda Dias answered directly to Jorge Arturo “ El Fantasma” Lagos Reyes, the leader of Hemster Locos and a member of the Council of Nine, which rules over MS-13.

Ann Coulter: Caravan of Asylum Seekers Will Be ‘Shipped in and We’ll Get Another Round of MS-13’
New York Times best-selling author and populist conservative columnist Ann Coulter says President Trump is “not doing anything” about a caravan of about 1,500 Central Americans trying to seek asylum in the United States.
In an interview with Fox News’s Steve Hilton, Coulter slammed Trump for not more effectively stopping the arrival of the caravan at the U.S.-Mexico border.
COULTER: Well, I wish Trump would just stay on the road like he was in campaign mode again because he gets instant feedback from the crowd and that’s when he says really popular things that get Republicans elected and could possibly defend against a blue wave. But, then he gets back to Washington and he’s not doing anything about the caravan. [Emphasis added]He sent out a tweet a few weeks ago saying ‘Don’t worry, thanks Mexican government has stopped the caravan.’ And then the Daily Mail goes to Mexico and says ‘No we haven’t stopped the caravan, we’re giving them 30 day passes, 20 day passes to make sure that they can make it to America.’ They’re not all traveling with the caravan anymore but they’re spreading out so they can go to different access points. They’re 100 percent still coming. All they have to do is step across the border. And they have lots of lawyers from countries without borders advising them. This is a political attack on our nation by a political group that doesn’t believe nations should have borders. They’re advised, they’re told what to say, they step across the border. They say ‘asylum’ and that’s it. They’re going to get shipped in and we’ll get another round of MS-13 and another round of MS-13. [Emphasis added]I mean, Trump has a lot of power. He was the one who was elected. It’s Republicans and Congress that the American people hate. If he wants Congress to pass this law it wouldn’t be very hard. Maybe if he spent a little more time on making America great again and not working on South Korea and China great again. He could get back to pressuring Congress to do something for the American people and that would be pass a law saying you don’t just get to step in and say ‘I’m claiming asylum’ and then get a bus and a box lunch into America. [Emphasis added]
As Breitbart Texas reported, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has temporarily closed off designated ports of entry that prevent the asylum-seekers from crossing into the U.S. The plan to limit the number of asylum-seekers will give immigration judges and attorneys more time to quickly review and decide on the mass flow of asylum and removal cases that have backlogged the process for years.
Already, though, Border Patrol agents have caught foreign nationals associated with the caravan crossing over the U.S.-Mexico border. In one case, a pregnant woman was caught illegally entering the U.S. “through a dark, treacherous canyon that is notorious for human and drug smuggling,” Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. Scott said.
Breitbart News has reported how tent cities could be built along the southern border to prevent the asylum-seekers from becoming the beneficiaries of the ongoing “Catch and Release” program, whereby foreign nationals are released into the U.S. while they await immigration and asylum hearings.
