SURABAYA, Indonesia (AP) — Coordinated suicide bombings carried out by members of the same family struck three churches in Indonesia's second-largest city Sunday, police said, as the world's most populous Muslim nation recoiled in horror at one of its worst attacks since the 2002 Bali bombings.
At least seven people died at the churches in Surabaya along with the six family members, the youngest of whom were girls aged 9 and 12, according to police. Another 41 people were injured.
Indonesia's president condemned the attacks as "barbaric."
National police chief Tito Karnavian said that the father detonated a car bomb, two sons aged 18 and 16 used a motorcycle for their attack, and the mother and her two daughters wore explosives.
Karnavian said the family had returned to Indonesia from Syria, where until recently the Islamic State group controlled significant territory.
IS claimed responsibility for the attacks in a statement carried by its Aamaq news agency. It didn't mention anything about families or children taking part and said there were only three attackers.
Indonesia's deadliest terrorist attack occurred in 2002, when bombs exploded on the tourist island of Bali, killing 202 people in one night, mostly foreigners. But the fact that children were involved in Sunday's attacks in Surabaya shocked and angered the country.
Jemaah Islamiyah, the network responsible for the Bali attacks, was obliterated by a sustained crackdown on militants by Indonesia's counterterrorism police with U.S. and Australian support. A new threat has emerged in recent years, inspired by IS attacks abroad.
Experts on militant networks have warned for several years that the estimated 1,100 Indonesians who traveled to Syria to join IS posed a threat if they returned home.
Karnavian identified the father as Dita Futrianto and said he was head of the Surabaya cell of Jemaah Anshorut Daulah, an Indonesian militant network affiliated with IS that has been implicated in attacks in Indonesia in the past year. He identified the mother as Puji Kuswati.
The attacks occurred within minutes of each other, according to Surabaya police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera.

A recent article titled “Passages from the Bible discovered behind Qur'an manuscript” is a reminder that for centuries Islam has been literally and figuratively erasing Christianity.
The report tells of how an eighth century Koran was found to be written over a Christian book, possibly the Bible: “French scholar Dr Eléonore Cellard … noticed that, appearing faintly behind the Arabic script, were Coptic letters. She contacted Christie’s [an auction house], and they managed to identify the Coptic text as coming from the Old Testament’s Book of Deuteronomy—part of the Torah and the Christian Old Testament.”
What this means, and how Western scholars understand it, are two different things: “This is a very important discovery for the history of the Qur’an and early Islam,” said Cellard. “We have here a witness of cultural interactions between different religious communities.” Christie’s specialist Romain Pingannaud concurs: “It shows the contact between communities in the first centuries of Islam.”
What is euphemistically referred to as “cultural interactions between different religious communities” and “the contact between communities in the first centuries of Islam” is a reference to the near cultural annihilation of Coptic Christian civilization by Islam on the former’s own homeland. The closest the report gets to this simple fact is by saying:
Christie’s… believes that the manuscript is likely to have been produced in Egypt, which was home to the Coptic community, at the time of the Arab conquest. It said that the fragments “resonate with the historical reality of religious communities in the Near East and as such are an invaluable survival from the earliest centuries of Islam.”
For an accurate glimpse of this “historical reality,” one need only turn to John of Nikiu, a Coptic bishop and eyewitness of the seventh century Muslim invasion of his Egyptian homeland. He recounts atrocity after atrocity perpetrated by the Muslims against the indigenous Christians, simply because the Muslim invaders deemed “the servants of Christ as enemies of Allah.” His chronicle is so riddled with bloodshed that John simply concludes, “But let us now say no more, for it is impossible to describe the horrors the Muslims committed…”
Once the conquest was over, the “rightly guided caliphs”—Muhammad’s relatives and companions—forced the “milk camels [Egypt’s Christian population] to yield more milk” by squeezing them dry of their wealth and resources, write the Arab chroniclers. Apocalyptic scenes permeate contemporary accounts concerning these times of wholesale extortion followed by starvation: “the dead were cast out into the streets and market-places, like fish which the water throws up on the land, because they found none to bury them; and some of the people devoured human flesh” from starvation, writes the chronicler Severus Ibn al-Muqaffa (d.987).
In short, and to quote nineteen century historian Alfred Butler, “that they [Egyptian Christians] abhorred the religion of Islam is proved by every page of their history.”
The Islamic takeover and financial bleeding of Egypt (documented in my new book, Sword and Scimitar) was always accompanied by a war on Egypt’s Christian heritage and nearly snuffed it out (as it did in other formerly Christian lands, from North Africa to Anatolia). In the eleventh century, Fatimid caliph Hakim bi-amr Allah ordered the destruction of 30,000 churches, including Christendom’s most sacred church, that of the Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Saladin, who overthrew the Fatimids, ordered mud smeared on Egypt’s churches, and their crosses broken off. Then came nearly three centuries under the Mamluks, who were even more repressive than their predecessors. Under their reign, Coptic ceased to be a living language, as the punishment for speaking it included the severing of one’s tongue.
Such is the “cultural interactions between different religious communities” that the scholars are fascinated over.
Erasing a Coptic language Bible and supplanting it with the Arabic Koran is a reminder of Islam’s enforced erasure of all Christian vestiges in Christianity’s ancient heartlands. The more entrenched Islam became in Egypt, the more Coptic culture—from its language to its churches—slowly disappeared, or was rendered invisible through a number of edicts (commonly known as the Conditions of Omar).
Yet Christie’s specialist Romain Pingannaud’s claims that the recent eighth century Koran find is “quite extraordinary… It’s fascinating, particularly because it’s the only example where you have an Arabic text on top of a non-Arabic text. And what’s even more fascinating is it is on top of passages from the Old Testament.” The report elaborates by saying that such books (palimpsests) are “extremely rare … with only a handful having been previously recorded, none of which were copied above a Christian text.”
Erasing Christian books of their scriptures and supplanting them with the Arabic Koran was actually par for the course. Dario Fernandez-Morera writes that one celebrated Muslim cleric held “that the sacred books of the defeated Christians must be burned to make them ‘disappear’—unless one can erase their content completely so one can then sell the blank pages to make a profit. But if one cannot sell these erased pages, they must be burned” (The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise, 41).
Happily, and as this recent discovery of a Christian text under the Arabic Koran suggests, sooner or later, everything will be uncovered—including the eyes of Western people to Islam’s past and present.
 As Alfred Butler explained “[T]he burdens of the Christians grew heavier in proportion as their numbers lessened [that is, the more Christians converted to Islam, the more the burdens on the remaining few grew]. The wonder, therefore, is not that so many Copts yielded to the current which bore them with sweeping force over to Islam, but that so great a multitude of Christians stood firmly against the stream, nor have all the storms of thirteen centuries moved their faith from the rock of its foundation.”

Murdering 56,000,000 unborn babies each year because they are inconvenient, or because they are women to be.
The mass murder of 100,000,000 people in the last century.
Sexual objectification of women.
The use of violence to silence "offensive" speech.
A hedonistic ruling class oppressing all who object to its "values."
The reality is that without God, men become monsters.
The only God-free cultures we know of, the various communist regimes of the this and the last century, have been the most oppressive, evil, and aggressive "civilizations" that the world has ever seen. In less than 100 years, they killed around 30,000 times as many people as the Inquisition, which was mostly a governmental, not a Church activity, did in 500 years.
In religion-free Cambodia, roughly 25% of the population was exterminated for the "greater good."
It's true that many people in those hellholes still had faith, but the people who made the rules and who oversaw the horrors rejected God. From a purely functional perspective, those countries had no religion.
How can this be, given that we all know atheists, agnostics, and those who just don't care who are decent folk?
The answer is that in a Christian society, even those who don't believe in God absorb through the culture Christian values – what Catholics call the Natural Law.
Take the Golden Rule, for example. It says, "Do onto others what you'd have them do onto you."
Faithless people often point out that one doesn't need to believe in God to believe in that rule. That's true. The problem is that without God, there can't be any objective moral code.
If there is no God, then morality is defined by people, since there is no other option. But people disagree on what is moral and what isn't. Many people thought the Holocaust and black slavery in the South were perfectly moral, for example, and there are even groups, small in size at the moment, thanks be to God, that support raping children.
But since people don't agree on what is moral, and there's no objective way to decide which people are right, that means that morality is subjective. It's what an individual says it is.
History has taught us that when people believe they are the source of morality, horrible things tend to happen.
For example, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot rejected the Golden Rule. Yet without God, all we can say is that we disagree with their opinions on morality. Those who lack faith can't say that Stalin, et al. are wrong or evil – only that they, good people with no faith, disagree with them.
It's true that in societies where religion exists, things aren't perfect, but if that religion is Christianity, we see that the horrible things that happen go against what Christianity teaches – though there are always those who feel they can redefine what Christ taught to support their beliefs. Jesus told us to love one another as we love ourselves, which would clearly rule out slavery of the sort practiced in the South, yet there were some people who professed Christianity but rejected that truth. But there were many more Christians who rejected that bizarre interpretation and who eventually died in huge numbers to end slavery.
In a sense, religion is like the speed limit. If the speed limit is 55 mph, a lot of drivers will go 65, but few will go 75. If we relax the speed limit to 65, a lot of people will drive 75, and some will drive 85. In a world without religion, a world with no moral speed limit, the Gulag becomes common.
If a society relaxes its moral rules by rejecting God, it gets more evil and greater evil. That's why in England, the government can prevent parents from trying to save the life of their own child with their own money. That's still not something that can happen in America, because America is far more religious than England.
Sadly, the left in America is working hard to oppress and eliminate religion. The left speaks of freedom of worship, being able to go to a church in private and worship, rather than freedom of religion, being able to publically live one's faith by condemning slavery, for example. The left has ensured that teachers in public schools can safely extol the wonders of sexual hedonism and atheism but must fear instant termination if they proclaim the Gospel.
The reality is that the left rejects religion because religion stands between the left and the total control of others that the left wants. Like their ideological fathers Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot, leftists in America believe they have the wisdom to rule over the rest of us rubes. We see this in large things, the left denying science and saying men can become women, and little things, the left telling us how big our glasses of soda can be.
America was founded on the uniquely Judeo-Christian belief that individuals have intrinsic value and rights that the State can't take away:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Note that if rights aren't endowed by our Creator, then they can come only from government, which means that government can take them away. This means that the powerful have literal life-and-death control over the lives of the powerless.
Thomas Jefferson, a Deist, not a Christian, also said our rights wouldn't be respected if people weren't religious:
God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.
Imagining a world without religion means imagining that America had never been founded, or that if it had, it wouldn't have been different from the hundreds of other countries where rights flow from the powerful few, not from God.
Religion can be bad; witness Islam. But Christianity, for all the faults of Christians, supports the fundamental American belief in the value and equality of men. Without Christianity, what's wrong with racism, income inequality, or raping children? After all, if we're all just meat machines with no free will – Hawking points out in The Grand Design (Kindle Locations 311-313) that without God, we can't have free will – what's wrong with any of those things?
If everyone, from a crack addicted inner-city baby to the president, isn't of equal value, then what's wrong with the more valuable oppressing the less valuable?
The left wants the benefits of religion – belief that we need to help the poor, belief that racism is bad, etc. – without actually allowing people to live religious lives. We've seen how that works out in the communist regimes, and there is no reason to believe that if leftists succeed in throwing God out of public life, America will turn out any better than the Soviet Union did.
We need to fight the left and keep Christianity as the moral bedrock of our nation while allowing all people to live their faith, no matter what they are, if we are to avoid descending into a fascist state where the government controls every aspect of our lives.

A MUSLIM GENOCIDE OF CHRISTIANS IN NIGERIA
Two priests slaughtered while conducting morning mass are the latest victims.
Around 30 Muslim herdsmen stormed a church during early morning mass and massacred nearly 20 parishioners and two clergymen on April 24 in Nigeria.
Rev. Fathers Joseph Gor and Felix Tyolaha were slaughtered while officiating at the altar of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mbalom village, Benue. Worshippers were gathered in the church for the daily 5:30 a.m. service when they heard gunshots.
"People started scampering and wailing," said Terhemen Angor, a local resident. Several people were "gunned down in cold blood while many sustained injuries including bullet wounds... After attacking the church, the invaders descended on the community and razed over 60 houses. The community is on fire and deserted, people are fleeing to neighbouring villages hoping to find a safe haven for their families."
As in similar occurrences, "concerted efforts to get [a] reaction from the Benue Police Command failed," according to Vanguard News. As far back as January 3, and further indicative of the authorities' indifference, one of the slain reverends, Fr. Gor had written on Facebook, "Living in fear. The fulani herdsmen are still around us in Mbalom. They refuse to go. They still go grazing around us. No weapons to depend on ourselves."
"In their classic style they burn down homes, destroy food items and kill," a statement concerning this latest atrocity from the local Catholic diocese read. "The police seem to know nothing of the attacks which have been going on in other villages within Benue State."
The statement suggests that Fulani herdsmen attacks are part of the anti-Christian jihad in Nigeria that is more commonly associated with the Islamic terror group, Boko Haram:
Many people are asking why the International community has remained silent over the massacre of Benue citizens? The answer is simple: It has been the goal of the jihadists to conquer Benue and Tiv people who resisted their advance into the middle belt since 1804; the [Christian] people who rejected Islam and fought for the unification of Nigeria in the civil war of 1967 - 1970... [T]he Muslim North is enjoying a sweet revenge overshadowed by an insensitive regime.... The diocese has been active in providing relief materials including education and skills acquisition lessons. To go for the priests means total destruction of everything we stand for and believe in!
The frequency and deadliness of Muslim herdsmen raids on Christian farmers is "now more deadly than the Boko Haram jihadist insurgency that has ravaged Nigeria's northeast," reports Agence France-Presse.
"I have just returned from Nigeria where over 100 Christians were killed in the 2 weeks I was there. The killings are now weekly and this isn't even Boko Haram!" a leading human rights lawyer, Emmanuel Ogebe, whose hometown is the site of this latest massacre of Nigerian Christians and their priests, told Gatestone.
The Fulani Herdsmen are jihadists who invaded the region in 1804 and imposed a puritanical form of Islam. It is impossible to separate their antecedents from their present. More than just a land dispute, the attacks on an American mission compound last month and today's attack on a church service are indicators of the Islamist extremism driving this genocide.
The Boko Haram and the Fulani "are not only allies but have collaborated on attacks in Nigeria," continued Ogebe. "It is no coincidence that both are now waging jihad on Nigeria given their long history."
Many Christians in Nigeria accuse its president, Muhammadu Buhari of being complicit. Although he publicly condemns the ongoing massacre by Fulani herdsmen of Christians, they contend that he does nothing to stop them. Ogebe goes further with his accusations:
Buhari, who is himself from the jihadists' Fulani tribe, has filled his security council with his kinsmen. He infamously refused to visit Benue State after the New Year's Day Massacre that claimed over 70 lives then commanded the state governor to go and "accommodate" the Fulani Herdsmen who had killed his people. The minister of defense has justified the killings and General Buhari's Government condones and sometimes outrightly supports the Herdsmen. Worse still, General Buhari is a life patron of one of the Herdsmen associations that has claimed some of the attacks.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is set to visit the White House next week, April 30.
Asked if he could relay a message to the White House, Ogebe said:
General Buhari is presiding over a low-grade genocide perpetrated by his Fulani Herdsmen tribe. He must be told to fish out the murderers of Rev Fathers Joseph and Felix and bring them to justice. The killings must stop. US should halt aircraft sales to Nigeria until these attacks are halted and the perpetrators convicted.
The attacks on Israel have led to their predictable and intended outcome. Israeli soldiers firing in self-defense against attackers and rioters. Whether they use gas, rubber bullets or, as a last resort, live ammunition, Hamas, the PLO and their anti-Israel allies milk the victimhood for all it's worth.
And, accompanying that, are the usual claims of "journalists" being wounded.
Thus far the "journalists" have consistently turned out to be members of terror groups. The latest one is reportedly from Al Jazeera.
While Qatari money has bought Al Jazeera a lot of credibility, the fact remains that it's not a news organization. It's an influence operation by Qatar.
Qatar remains a major backer of Hamas. And its Muslim Brotherhood parent. (And that's even without addressing the 9/11, Al Qaeda and ISIS link to the country occasionally listed as America's ally,)
Al Jazeera doesn't have journalists, it has propagandists who, whether it's in Egypt or Gaza, act to promote the Qatari pro-terrorist agenda. And that especially includes Hamas.
An Al Jazeera "journalist" covering Hamas is no different than a Der Sturmer scribe covering the Nazi advance into Poland.

A teenager “wept” during a forced marriage ceremony in Pakistan to the man who had impregnated her years before as a 13-year-old child, Birmingham Crown Court heard.
In circumstances similar to another ongoing forced marriage trial, the teenager was allegedly duped into going on a family holiday to Pakistan while her mother conspired to force her into marrying a relative against her will.
The Birmingham woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court that she was ordered to marry the Pakistani national, who is 16 years her senior, almost immediately after she finished cutting her birthday cake, reports BirminghamLive.
“I started crying to my mum, saying ‘I don’t want to get married,’ but apparently it was organised before and she couldn’t do anything about it because her reputation would go down,” the 19-year-old told the jury on Monday.
Days after her 18th birthday in August 2016, the young woman wept during her wedding and told the Pakistani imam officiating the ceremony that her mother was forcing her to marry. Her mother, who also cannot be named, then led her to another room to meet her “husband”.
The crown has described the young woman as being highly vulnerable with special education needs.
“I was upset because I didn’t really want to get married to him because I was already in a relationship with someone else,” she added.
“After everything that happened with him when I was 13, I didn’t exactly want to marry someone like that, and he was a lot older than me.”
Birmingham Crown Court heard last week that in 2012 on a previous visit to Pakistan, an imam oversaw the betrothal between the then-13-year-old girl and a 29-year-old man should would later be forced to marry.
Her “fiance”, who is her stepfather’s nephew, raped the child that night. On the family’s return to the UK, she found she was pregnant and an abortion was arranged.
Traumatised by the rape and abortion, the girl turned to alcohol and drugs and was taken into emergency foster care. She then became vulnerable to child sexual exploitation, was raped again, and had a second abortion.
Wiping away tears, the young woman told Birmingham Crown Court that she felt she was an “object that could be moved from place to place”.
Describing her isolation and vulnerability, she said: “I knew I was in Pakistan. I had nowhere to go. I had to do whatever was asked.”
Authorities became involved after the young woman returned to the UK shortly after her marriage. Her mother faces two charges related to forced marriage, a third charge of perjury, and a fourth charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice. The trial is ongoing.
Breitbart London reported Tuesday of an ongoing trial of a woman who claims her parents tricked her into going on a family holiday to Bangladesh with the purpose of forcing her to marry. This time, the British Consulate intervened before the marriage and the court heard that the teenager ran “screaming” from her family during her rescue.
To date, only one forced marriage case in England has led to a prosecution.
This is despite the government’s Forced Marriage Unit (FMU) identifying more than 8,000 cases since 2010 and logging nearly 1,200 forced marriages last year alone, with the organisation saying that number “may not reflect the full scale of the abuse”.
More than one third – 439 – of the forced marriages either took place or were due to take place in Pakistan, followed by Bangladesh with 129 reports in 2017.
Cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also commonly associated with Islamic culture, have resulted in not one single conviction in the UK.
