Hero Pit Bull Saves Family from Fire, Pulls Baby Out by Diaper

A California mother is hailing her pit bull as a “hero” after the dog rescued the family from a fire that broke out at their home.

Nana Chaichanhda told KTXL in an interview published Sunday that the eight-month-old pit bull, Sasha, banged on the back door to alert the family to the flames engulfing a fourplex in Stockton.
“I open it, and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy, and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,'” Chaichanhda said.
While Chaichanhda discovered her neighbor’s building had been on fire, the dog bolted past her into a bedroom where her seven-month-old daughter, Masailah, lay on the bed.
By the time Chaichanhda noticed, Sasha had already sprung into action to save the infant.
“I ran into the room, and I see Sasha,” Chaichanhda told KCRA. “She has my baby by the diaper, just dragging her off the bed – trying to get her to safety.”

The family escaped from the building unscathed, but the fire’s damage caused their home to be uninhabitable.
The family set up a GoFundMe page to rebuild their lives and offset the damage caused by the fire. As of Sunday afternoon, the family has raised $825.
The Stockton Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Eggs Good For Your Heart? Not Likely!

May 29, 2018 5:54 pm Last Updated: June 9, 2018 4:09 pm

This week consumers are hearing the news that “an egg a day may reduce heart disease risk.” Cynics might ask does a cigarette a day reduce the risk of lung cancer too?
The truth is the chicken egg has the highest cholesterol of any other foodstuff—packing as much as 275 mg of cholesterol.  In 2008, the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation reported that just one egg a day increased the risk of heart failure in a group of doctors studied. And in 2010, the Canadian Journal of Cardiology lamented the “wide- spread misconception . . . that consumption of dietary cholesterol and egg yolks is harmless.” The article further cautioned that “stopping the consumption of egg yolks after a stroke or myocardial infarction [heart attack] would be like quitting smoking after a diagnosis of lung cancer: a necessary action, but late.”
Eggs also have a link to ovarian cancer, says an article in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, and the culprit is not necessarily cholesterol. “It seems possible that eating eggs regularly is causally linked to the occurrence of a proportion of cancers of the ovary, perhaps as many as 40 percent, among women who eat at least 1 egg a week,” wrote the authors. In one study the article cites, three eggs per week increased ovarian-cancer mortality three-fold, compared with less than one egg per week.
According to studies in the journals Nutrition and Diabetes Care, eating eggsis also “positively associated” with the risk of diabetes.
Diabetes, cancer, and stroke are not the only health risks associated with eggs. This month, Walmart, Food Lion and other grocery chains have recalled morethan 206 million eggs after a salmonella outbreak. Thirty-five people were sickened.
Thanks to “factory farming” 30,000 or more caged hens are now stacked on top of each other, over their own manure, to produce a cheap egg. The extreme, crowded conditions invite disease and egg recalls due to bacterial contamination have become a regular occurrence.
A few years ago, the FDA found a hatchery injecting antibiotics directly into the eggs that  would become laying hens. The FDA observed that the antibiotic ceftiofur “was being administered by egg injection, rather than by the approved method of administering the drug to day-old chicks.” Would eggs from an antibiotic-treated hen have antibiotic residues? Of course. The Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry reports that “detectable residues were observed in eggs derived from enrofloxacin-treated [an antibiotic] hens,” as well as “yolks from hens treated with enrofloxacin.”
To offset the heart, cancer, diabetes and bacterial risks of eggs, the egg industry continually pushes them to the medical and consumer press with the message that they are healthful. In 2010, US egg farmers in conjunction with Scholastic rolled out the “Good Egg Project” in schools to increase egg demand—similar to dairy industry projects in schools to push milk. The “Back-to-Breakfast Teacher Challenge” gave teachers the chance to win $5,000 by explaining in an essay how the Good Egg Project grant “could be used to offer protein breakfasts in their schools.”
A blurb in Akin’s Healthy Edge magazine said, “In the past, eggs have been condemned as unhealthy because their yolks contain cholesterol. But studies from around the world show that the cholesterol found naturally in food isn’t actually harmful, according to research presented at the Experimental Biology 2011 conference in Washington, DC. ”
But consumers would be wise to listen to medical researchers not egg marketers. They do not have “yolk” in the game.

But she was rescued by volunteer group A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue based in Conroe, Texas, after seeing 'she desperately needed help'.
Theroux later reached out to the group and launched a top secret months-long adoption process.
'The odds were stacked against Kuma as a shy, mangy pit bull with medical issues, but something about her pulled at our heartstrings. We saved Kuma from euthanasia without hesitation and took her into our rescue to bloom,' the rescue group said in a Facebook post.
'Kuma is an ambassador of the breed, with a very calm temperament and breezed though her basic obedience training. We knew that she’d be a perfect fit for Justin, when he came all the way to Texas for a meet and greet!' the post added.

‘Illegal immigrant’ cow that wandered into the EU across the Bulgarian/Serbian border is saved from execution after Paul McCartney leads campaign to save her

  • Penka, a pregnant red cow, crossed into non-EU Serbia from her farm in Bulgaria
  • Bulgarian officials planned to put Penka down after she crossed back illegally
  • The cow did not have the correct documentation at the time of the crossing
  • But a statement released Monday said she would be released later this week
  • A viral petition reached 30,000 signatures and was shared by Paul McCartney

An ‘illegal immigrant’ cow has been saved from execution after wandering across the EU border between Bulgaria and Serbia.
Penka, a pregnant red cow from the village of Kopilovtsi, Bulgaria, had been due to receive the death penalty for illegally re-entering Bulgaria after a brief trip into neighbouring Serbia.
But after a petition to save Penka went viral and received attention from both the European Commission and Sir Paul McCartney - lawmakers have announced the insubordinate bovine will be allowed to live.
In a statement released on Monday, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency announced that Penka will be allowed to return to her farm by the end of the week after undergoing a series of tests to prove she is in good health.

'Laboratory analyzes of the cow, who stayed for 15 days in Serbia and crossed the border, were negative for the diseases investigated,' the statement read.
'The test protocols are due to be prepared and the animal remains at this stage quarantined in the village of Kopilovtsi. It is expected at the end of the week that the animal be returned for cultivation in the site in the village of Mazarachevo.
Penka, who is due in around three months' time, wandered westwards away from her herd near the village of Kopilovtsi, straying over the border into non-EU Serbia.
Two weeks later she was returned to her owner Ivan Haralampiev by a farmer over the frontier.
However, Bulgarian officials said the animal must be put down because of strict EU rules.
Penka was due to be executed because she didn't have the proper paperwork - despite being given a clean bill of health by Serbian vets.
Animal lovers soon launched a petition on Change.org to have the cow absolved of her crimes.
And by the time of the announcement on Sunday it had received over 30,000 signatures.
Although Serbian vets wrote a statement saying Penka was in a perfect condition and fit to return home, Bulgarian authorities said it should be put down

The campaign even drew the attention of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney who tweeted on Friday last week; 'I think it would be really nice to see this pregnant cow given a reprieve. She’s done nothing wrong. Join us if you agree.'
Her case was even debated at the European Commission in Brussels on Friday - with ministers waiving the European import rules she had fallen foul of.
'She had left the borders of the EU' and cannot be imported back into the European Union,' her owner Ivan Haralampiev told public BNT television as he pleaded for his cow to be saved.
'A vet comes and orders it to be immediately culled!'
The farmer also lamented how the cow was able to saunter over the border unchecked in the first place.
'How come nobody attempted to stop it?' he said.
Although Serbian vets wrote a statement saying Penka was in a perfect condition and fit to return home, Bulgarian authorities said she would have to be put down without delay.
'It is not for us to decide. We are only implementing rules that come from Brussels,' vet expert Lyubomir Lyubomirov said.
According to the European Comission's guidelines for transporting bovine animals across borders, cows like Penka are required to be presented at border checkpoints with documentation verifying they are healthy.
Official EU guidelines state: 'Bovine animals being presented for entry into the EU must be accompanied by a veterinary health certificate.
'An official veterinarian in the authorised non-EU country must sign the certificate to attest that all the relevant conditions in the certificate have been met.
'The certification must accompany the animals en-route to the EU and when they are presented for entry into the EU at an approved EU Border Inspection Post.'
EU rules state that Penka is technically an illegal immigrant having failed to provide the correct documentation at the border
