Mexican authorities confirmed the discovery of at least 35 bodies in a series of mass graves. Officials found the graves in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The state is controlled by the ruthless criminal organization known as Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion.

Jalisco’s Attorney General Office confirmed the discovery of 35 bodies this week in three separate mass graves in the Guadalajara Metropolitan area, El Sol de Mexico reported. Guadalajara is the same city where in March, Mexican authorities found 19 bodies in a canal, Breitbart News reported at the time.
According to Jalisco’s Attorney General Gerardo Octavio Solis Gomez, the bodies were found in four separate mass graves. Authorities searched the area as part of an ongoing series of murder investigations.
In one mass grave in the Campanario neighborhood of the municipality of Zapopan, authorities found 27 bodies. Officials began the investigation in that area on Tuesday. So far, investigators have only been able to identify two of the victims.
Authorities raided a house in the Quinta Velarde neighborhood of Guadalajara where they rescued 9 kidnapping victims. They also found seven human skulls. Police believe that the seven bodies are buried in a mass grave located on the property, El Sol de Mexicoreported. Inside that property, authorities found acid and other corrosive materials that could have been used to dissolve victims.
In a third investigation, the Mexican Army raided a home in the municipality of Tlajomulco. Investigators arrested four men and found one victim who had been buried on the grounds of that property.
As part of the investigation, authorities also seized six SUVs that had been made to look like police vehicles from the Attorney General’s Office. Investigators believe that the cloned police vehicles were used to make the kidnappings look like police arrests.
Jalisco is the main area of operations of Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion, a drug cartel that made a name for itself as one of the most violent criminal organizations. The cartel recruited former military forces and Colombian terrorists as muscle and for their knowledge in the use of IEDs, Breitbart News reported. CJNG is one of the cartels that has drawn the condemnation of U.S. politicians who are looking to classify certain cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, Breitbart News reported.

Mexican President: Shift U.S. Anti-Cartel Funds to Jobs Program

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) called for an end to the internationally-funded Merida Initiative to target cartels in favor of a jobs program.

AMLO told reporters in Mexico City that he asked the U.S. government to end the Merida Initiative and shift aid to a job development program, Mexico’s SinEmbargo.Mx reported. The plan calls for economic development in southern Mexico and Central America to keep migrants from leaving their home regions for jobs further north.
“The Merida Initiative issue–we want it to be completely reoriented because it is not working,” AMLO said during his televised statement. “We don’t want cooperation for the use of force–we want it for development.”
The Merida Initiative is a $3 billion aid program run by the U.S. Department of State aimed at helping Mexico deal with organized crime and cartels. The program calls for equipment, helicopters, and a series of programs to improve Mexican law enforcement while respecting human rights.
The statements by AMLO come at a time when his administration is under fire for previous statements like calling for an end to the drug war to instead focus on forgiveness, Breitbart News reported. Despite the rhetoric, Mexico continues to see record-setting levels of violence as cartels fight for previously peaceful tourist areas like Cancun, Baja California, and Los Cabos.
In addition to the ongoing cartel violence, criminal organizations just south of the Texas border profit from the migration crisis by charging between $300 and $500 per Central American migrant that crosses the Rio Grande. This week, U.S. Border Patrol reported the apprehension of 2,400 migrants in one day in the Rio Grande Sector. The rising numbers come at a time when Mexican officials claim to be cracking down on unlawful migration.

Deported Sex Offenders Continue Exploitation of Unsecured Border

Immigrants walk handcuffed after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and being caught by the U.S. Border Patrol on December 7, 2015 near Rio Grande City, Texas. Border Patrol agents continue to capture hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants, even as the total numbers of those crossing has gone down. (Photo …

Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio and El Centro Sectors stopped three previously deported sex offenders from successfully re-entering the U.S. from Mexico. Previously deported criminal aliens continue to exploit weaknesses in our nation’s unsecured border.

Agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station stopped two previously deported sex offenders in as many days earlier this week. Agents arrested a 35-year-old Honduran man after he illegally crossed the border. All migrants arrested by Border Patrol agents are subjected to a biometric background investigation to determine prior criminal and immigration history as well as gang affiliation.
The agents transported the Honduran man arrested on May 7 to the station where the background investigation uncovered a criminal conviction, according to information obtained from Del Rio Sector Border Patrol officials. A Virginia court convicted the migrant for four counts of sexual crimes against a child. After serving a five-year sentence handed down by the court, immigration officers deported the man in April 2010.
The following day, Eagle Pass agents arrested a 34-year-old Honduran man after he illegally crossed the unsecured border. A biometric background investigation uncovered a conviction by a court in Brookhaven, Georgia, in 2016 for child molestation. The court sentenced the man to 18 months in confinement. Immigration officers deported the Honduran migrant in 2018 after he completed his sentence.
Our agents remain vigilant and committed to safeguarding our communities,” Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Raul L. Ortiz said in a written statement. “Convicted criminal aliens often try to avoid detection by exploiting the current immigrant crisis at our borders to illegally enter our country, and in many cases will return to the communities where they perpetrated their crimes.”
Elsewhere on the border that same day, El Centro Sector agents assigned to the Calexico Station observed a man illegally crossing the border. The crossing occurred about 18 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry, officials reported.
The agents arrested the migrant and transported him to the Calexico Station for processing. Agents identified the Mexican man as 30-year-old Bernardino Sanchez-Perea. Criminal records show that a Skagit County, Washington, court convicted the Mexican national for sex with a minor three-years-old or younger. The court sentenced the man to 15 months in jail. Immigration officers deported the man to Mexico in 2011.
All three of the previously deported criminal alien sex offenders face new federal charges under 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation. If convicted, each could face a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
