Left-wing progressives are embracing
a political alliance with Silicon Valley oligarchs who would trap
Americans in a cramped future without hope of upward mobility for
themselves or their children, says a left-wing political analyst in California.
Historically,
liberals advocated helping the middle class achieve greater independence,
notably by owning houses and starting companies. But the tech oligarchy — the
people who run the five most capitalized firms on Wall Street — have a far less
egalitarian vision. Greg Fehrenstein, who interviewed 147 digital company
founders, says most believe that “an increasingly greater share of economic
wealth will be generated by a smaller slice of very talented or original
people. Everyone else will increasingly subsist on some combination of
part-time entrepreneurial ’gig work‘ and government aid.”
Numerous oligarchs
— Mark Zuckerberg, Pierre Omidyar, founder of eBay, Elon Musk and Sam Altman,
founder of the Y Combinator — have embraced this vision including a “guaranteed
wage,” usually $500 or a $1,000 monthly. Our new economic overlords are not
typical anti-tax billionaires in the traditional mode; they see government
spending as a means of keeping the populist pitchforks away. This may be the
only politically sustainable way to expand “the gig economy,” which grew to 7
million workers this year, 26 percent above the year before.
Handouts, including
housing subsidies, could guarantee for the next generation a future not of
owned houses, but rented small, modest apartments. Unable to grow into
property-owning adults, they will subsist while playing with their phones,
video games and virtual reality in what Google calls “immersive computing.”
This plan, however,
is being challenged by the return of populism and nationalism when
President Donald Trump defeated the GOP’s corporatist candidates and the
progressives’ candidate in 2016. In his 2017 inauguration, Trump declared:
For too long, a
small group in our nation’s capital has reaped the rewards of government
while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished, but
the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered, but the
jobs left and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself,
but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your
victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they
celebrated in our nation’s capital, there was little to celebrate for
struggling families all across our land.
That all changes
starting right here and right now because this moment is your moment, it
belongs to you …
What truly matters
is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is
controlled by the people.
For several years,
Kotkin has been dissecting the Democrats’ shift from working-class politics
toward a tacit alliance with the billionaires in the new information-technology
industries that are centralizing wealth and power through the United
States. In 2013, for example, he argued that California’s politics were
increasingly “feudal“:
As late as the 80s,
California was democratic in a fundamental sense, a place for outsiders and,
increasingly, immigrants—roughly 60 percent of the population was considered
middle class. Now, instead of a land of opportunity, California has become
increasingly feudal. According to recent census estimates, the state suffers
some of the highest levels of inequality in the country. By some estimates, the state’s level of
inequality compares with that of such global models as the Dominican Republic, Gambia, and the Republic of the
Congo.
At the same
time, the Golden State now suffers the highest level of poverty in the
country—23.5 percent compared to 16 percent nationally—worse than long-term
hard luck cases like Mississippi. It is also now home to roughly one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients, almost three times its
proportion of the nation’s population.
Like medieval
serfs, increasing numbers of Californians are downwardly mobile, and doing
worse than their parents: native born Latinos actually have shorter lifespans
than their parents, according to one recent report. Nor are things expected to get better any time soon. According
to a recent Hoover Institution survey, most Californians expect their incomes to stagnate in the
coming six months, a sense widely shared among the young, whites, Latinos,
females, and the less educated.
“Protecting citizens from industrial capitalism’s
giant corporations? Where were the Securities and Exchange Commission, the
Federal Reserve, the Office of Thrift Supervision, and the Office of Federal
Housing Enterprise Oversight as the mortgage bubble blew up in 2008, nearly
taking the whole financial system with it and producing the worst economic bust
since the Great Depression, which even today has sunk the labor-force
participation rate and hiked the suicide rate among working-class men and women
to record levels?”
Los Angeles County Pays Over a Billion in Welfare to Illegal Aliens Over Two Years
In 2015 and 2016, Los Angeles County paid nearly $1.3 billion in welfare funds to illegal aliens and their families. That figure amounts to 25 percent of the total spent on the county’s entire needy population, according to Fox News.
The state of California is home to more illegal aliens than any other state in the country. Approximately one in five illegal aliens lives in California, Pew reported.
Approximately a quarter of California’s 4 million illegal immigrants reside in Los Angeles County. The county allows illegal immigrant parents with children born in the United States to seek welfare and food stamp benefits.
The welfare benefits data acquired by Fox News comes from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and shows welfare and food stamp costs for the county’s entire population were $3.1 billion in 2015, $2.9 billion in 2016.
The data also shows that during the first five months of 2017, more than 60,000 families received a total of $181 million.
Over 58,000 families received a total of $602 million in benefits in 2015 and more than 64,000 families received a total of $675 million in 2016.
Robert Rector, a Heritage Foundation senior fellow who studies poverty and illegal immigration, told Fox the costs represent “the tip of the iceberg.”
“They get $3 in benefits for every $1 they spend,” Rector said. It can cost the government a total of $24,000 per year per family to pay for things like education, police, fire, medical, and subsidized housing.
In February of 2019, the Los Angeles city council signed a resolution making it a sanctuary city. The resolution did not provide any new legal protections to their immigrants, but instead solidified existing policies.
In October 2017, former California governor Jerry Brown signed SB 54 into law. This bill made California, in Brown’s own words, a “sanctuary state.” The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the State of California over the law. A federal judge dismissed that suit in July. SB 54 took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
According to Center for Immigration Studies, “The new law does many things: It forbids all localities from cooperating with ICE detainer notices, it bars any law enforcement officer from participating in the popular 287(g) program, and it prevents state and local police from inquiring about individuals’ immigration status.”
Some counties in California have protested its implementation and joined the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state.
California’s campaign to provide public services to illegal immigrants did not end with the exit of Jerry Brown. His successor, Gavin Newsom, is just as focused as Brown in funding programs for illegal residents at the expense of California taxpayers.
California’s budget earmarks millions of dollars annually to the One California program, which provides free legal assistance to all aliens, including those facing deportation, and makes California’s public universities easier for illegal-alien students to attend.
According to the Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers 2017 report, for the estimated 12.5 million illegal immigrants living in the country, the resulting cost is a $116 billion burden on the national economy and taxpayers each year, after deducting the $19 billion in taxes paid by some of those illegal immigrants.
BLOG: MOST FIGURES PUT THE NUMBER OF ILLEGALS IN THE U.S. AT ABOUT 40 MILLION. WHEN THESE PEOPLE ARE HANDED AMNESTY, THEY ARE LEGALLY ENTITLED TO BRING UP THE REST OF THEIR FAMILY EFFECTIVELY LEAVING MEXICO DESERTED.
New data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that more than 22 million non-citizens now live in the United States.
Silent Kamala: Her state's on fire, swathed in blackouts and she's still tweeting about illegals
Presidential candidate Kamala Harris's home state of California is in the throes of a catastrophic natural disaster.
Fires are burning up and down the state, at least seven of them big ones. ABC News reports 15. All three major metropolitian areas - Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego, plus the mountain and rural areas (and cripes, and even nearby Mexico) have back country areas on fire all at once, with, as of this writing, about 50,000 acres incinerating in record-high Category 1 hurricane-level winds.
At least 90,000 residents have been ordered to flee, a huge disruptive mass migration of entire populations, and likely to lead to another crisis if they all can't be placed in the shelter they are going to need. Another 250,000 are being told to be ready to flee.
Millions more are engulfed in preemptive blackouts, 2.7 million at last count, in a desperate bid by regional electrical providers, such as PG&E (and other power companies) to prevent their exposed electrical lines from sparking fires in hot dry gale wind conditions surrounded by bone dry uncleared tinder. This massive and costly disruption (think of the just spoiled refrigerator contents) includes residents from her own hometown of Berkeley, California, and thousands more through the state.
Here where I'm at, in San Diego, the temperature is like an oven, and everyone is worried about homeless encampments in the canyons taking out even the urban houses abutting canyons and bringing the fires well into the cities.
Here's a screen shot of an ABC News report's opening graphic:
Anything from Kamala?
Not a peep. Here's what she's tweeting about instead:
Here's her Twitter feed, succoring illegals and all focused on impeaching President Trump. Never mind the fire thing, what's 15 fires? Based on her recent tweets, her priority is succoring transgender illegal aliens -- and pandering to the trans lobby for votes besides. The fires are a non-thing. Even with her hometown of Berkeley considerably blacked out, with 7,022 customers affected.
She's got a beef with ICE over a possible mishandling of data, something that not only is not her bailiwick, it's pretty rich coming from someone who "went to bat" to defend altered testimony (read: dishonest lies) from corrupt prosecutors in Kern County, back when she herself was Attorney General for the state of California.
But not a word about her home state fighting off a huge catastrophe -- not words of encouragement, not sympathy, not hotlines for residents to get help, not photos of her lading soup at a Red Cross help center, not even some drecky global warming drivel for the wokesters. She's Silent Kamala.
Which rather vividly demonstrates that she's not really in it to win it for California's voters. She had earlier attacted a lot of Silicon Valley cash for her campaign precisely because she was seen as someone who could win California and its rich trove of 52 electoral votes. Now she's not even trying, not even noticing that her own home state is embroiled in a natural disaster crisis. Any questions as to why even the California lefties don't have Harris anywhere near the top of their wish list?
No wonder her campaign is flailing.

California—not Mississippi, New Mexico, or West Virginia—has the highest poverty rate in the United States. According to the Census Bureau’s Supplemental Poverty Measure—which accounts for the cost of housing, food, utilities, and clothing, and which includes noncash government assistance as a form of income—nearly one out of four Californians is poor. California’s de facto status as a one-party state lies at the heart of its poverty problem. With a permanent majority in the state senate and the assembly, a prolonged dominance in the executive branch, and a weak opposition, California Democrats have long been free to indulge blue-state ideology while paying little or no political price. The state’s poverty problem is unlikely to improve while policymakers remain unwilling to unleash the engines of economic prosperity that drove California to its golden years. Kerry Jackson

As Breitbart News reported, if chain migration is not ended — as President Donald Trump has demanded — the U.S. electorate will forever be changed, with between seven to eight million new foreign-born individuals being eligible to vote because of chain migration, and overall, an additional 15 million new foreign-born voters.

Missouri Senator Claire McCaskillhas identified California Senator Kamala Harris as the party leader on issues of immigration and race. Harris wants a moratorium on construction of new immigration-detention facilities in favor of the old “catch and release” policy for illegal aliens, and has urged a shutdown of the government rather than compromise on mass amnesty.

THE STAGGERING COST OF THE WELFARE STATE MEXICO AND THE LA RAZA SUPREMACY DEMOCRAT PARTY HAVE BUILT BORDER to OPEN BORDER’
According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform’s 2017 report, illegal immigrants, and their children, cost American taxpayers a net $116 billion annually -- roughly $7,000 per alien annually. While high, this number is not an outlier: a recent study by the Heritage Foundation found that low-skilled immigrants (including those here illegally) cost Americans trillions over the course of their lifetimes, and a study from the National Economics Editorial found that illegal immigration costs America over $140 billion annually. As it stands, illegal immigrants are a massive burden on American taxpayers.

4. Interior enforcement of immigration law."

FACTS ON THE “REAL LATINO AMERICA” IN MEXICO’S SECOND LARGEST CITY OF LOS ANGELES:
(these are highly DATED stats)
This is another "fact" spun from the 2004 op-ed by Heather Mac Donald, whose article refers to a single Los Angeles gang and the conjecture of an unnamed federal prosecutor.
1. "40% of all workers in L.A. County are working for cash and not paying taxes. . . . This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card." The Mexican tax-free economy in Los Angeles County is estimated to be in excess of $2 billion dollars a year.
2. "95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens . . . "
3. "75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens."
4. "Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers." The County of Los Angeles hands Mexico’s anchor baby breeders more than a BILLION DOLLARS a year in welfare.
5. "Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally." California has the largest and most expensive prison system in the country. Half the inmates are now Mexicans. Half the murders in California are by Mexican gangs.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. "The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border."
8. "Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal."

THE NEW PRIVILEGED CLASS: Illegals (unregistered democrats)!
This is why you work From Jan - May paying taxes to the government ....with the rest of the calendar year is money for you and your family.
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, with his fake Social Security number, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200..... free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after Paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people!

Last year in fact, that game was going full speed. El Salvador's remittances hit arecord $5.47 billion. Literally one out of six Salvadorans now lives in the U.S., and 680,000 of those make their home in benefit-rich California. Salvadoran politicians actually campaign for office in California, owing to the sizable number of Salvadoran voters, many of whom are here illegally., signaling that there's a lot of work to be had for the newest (and least likely to be legal) migrants in the states now, most of which is coming from California.

Here come Big Daddy, the California governor, the gringo who's already laid out a banquet of goodies for Salvadorans in California, from free health care to free education, to sanctuary state protections to enable illegals to work, coming there supposedly to find out how he can offer ... even more goodies to Salvador's uneducated lower middle classes. The idea of course is to get even more of them to come over. Big Daddy comes down with the Santa sack full of goodies. MONICA SHOWALTER
