ANOTHER SHITBAG LAWYER! - AVENATTI PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO NIKE EXTORTION - BUT EXTORTION IS ABOUT ALL TRIAL LAWYERS DO ANYWAY!

Avenatti pleads not guilty in Nike extortion case

Attorney Michael Avenatti pleaded not guilty to extorting Nike by threatening to go public with damaging information if they did not pay him $25 million.
Avenatti, who rose to fame while defending porn star Stormy Daniels in her efforts against President Trump, was accused by prosecutors of trying to extort Nike for $25 million after threatening to reveal that the sportswear giant had improperly paid college athletes. Nike denied any wrongdoing related to payments to athletes and turned Avenatti over to authorities before he could go public with the story.
The prosecution dropped two counts of conspiracy but added a charge of honest services fraud because Avenatti allegedly failed to disclose to the courts that Nike offered to settle the case. Avenatti pleaded not guilty to all counts, according to Reuters.
Avenatti’s lawyer, Scott Srebnick, argued that the prosecution had originally argued that “Avenatti was shaking down Nike” but that their case had changed to bribery solicitation. He added, “It’s hard to know from this indictment exactly what this bribery scheme was.”
His trial will start on Jan. 21, 2020.
The Nike extortion case was the first of several charges to hit Avenatti, including embezzlement allegations from former clients that claimed the attorney had defrauded them of their settlement.
Avenatti, 48, parted ways with Daniels, who is currently suing Avenatti for hundreds of thousands of dollars that she claims he stole from her while representing her against the president.
