For the past few days, someone has been flagging almost every posting off of the Orlando politics board -- including this one. Flagging valid postings is something that annoys virtually all Craigslist users in almost every category. And yet it would be such a simple and easy thing to stop. All Craigslist needs to do is demand that everyone who wants to flag a post must have an account connected to a phone number -- just as they do for those who post on the political message boards. Anyone who flags valid postings would then be automatically banned from flagging any more postings. Are the people at Craigslist just too stupid to come up with that solution? Probably not. That means that they actually encourage indiscriminate flagging. But why? I have no idea. But I do know that it makes for an easy way for Craigslist to internally censor political material while at the same time providing the illusion that, depending upon your perspective, it's either "evil liberal posters" or "evil conservative posters" who are attempting to censor material. By allowing indiscriminate flagging that could easily be prevented, Craigslist itself begins to look rather guilty.
