David Vitter: End birthright citizenship

so that U.S. citizenship is no longer granted automatically as a result of
being born on American soil.
The Louisiana
Republican, in an interview on CNN that was flagged by the Hill, said the U.S. is the only industrialized
nation that treats citizenship as a birthright, regardless of the citizenship
of a child’s parents. Vitter, who plans to run for governor next year, also was
critical of apportionment regulations that he says count non-citizens as a part
of the population in the drawing of congressional districts.
“Another
rule which I think is absolutely crazy is when Congress is apportioned
following a new sentence, non-citizens, including illegals, are part of that town,”
Vitter said. “Now I don’t think the founders established Congress to represent
non-citizens.” “This is the only country where just because an individual is
born here physically, he or she is a citizen. That’s an outlier rule. No other
industrialized country has that rule,” Vitter added. “I don’t know why we have
that rule.”
Vitter’s
comments come on the heels of President Obama’s controversial executive order
to grant temporary legalized status to 4.1 million illegal immigrants whose
children are U.S. citizens or legal residents. Republicans argue that Obama has
overstepped his constitutional authority. The president has defended his
actions as legal and necessary in the face of congressional Republicans’
opposition to comprehensive immigration reform.

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) believes President Barack Obama's executive amnesty
turns the children of illegal immigrants who are legal residents or U.S.-born
citizens into "human shields" for their illegal immigrant
parents.
King, who went down to the border with Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-MN) this
weekend to again see the devastating impact of illegal immigration and
open borders, recalled a video he saw months ago in the same area in which
smugglers were rafting a pregnant illegal immigrant across the border.
Appearing on Breitbart News Sunday on Sirius XM Patriot channel
125, King said the pregnant illegal immigrant was "processed most
likely with asylum" and "now she's probably had the baby."
King told host and Breitbart News
Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon that Obama's executive amnesty
announcement on Thursday means that "anchor babies will be an automatic
human shield for the mothers and fathers of the anchor babies." Obama granted executive
amnesty and work permits to the "parents of children who are either U.S.
citizens or legal residents." Those born in the United States are
automatically U.S. citizens.
The Iowa Rep. also accused Obama of having gone to "Orwellian liars
school" after listening to Obama's executive amnesty
announcement. King laughed in disbelief that Obama actually claimed that
criminals will be deported in the same speech in which he essentially ordered
federal immigration agents to break the law by not deporting criminals who
entered the country illegally and those who overstayed their visas. King said
"it will take us weeks to unravel" Obama's "blatant collage of
lies," including the claim that illegal immigrants who are given executive
amnesty will not get any public benefits.
"It's pretty clear that the president does whatever he thinks he can
get away with," he said, noting that Obama does not think he is restrained
by his oath of office or the Constitution.
King said that Congress should censure Obama and at least "constrain
this president on the spending side" by using Congress's power of the
purse to prohibit federal funds from funding Obama's executive amnesty. He also
applauded Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-TX) suggestion that Congress should block all of
Obama's appointments so long as the executive amnesty is in effect.
He said Obama's ultimate motivation
is to turn "Hispanics into a monolithic voting bloc that will loyally vote
for Democrats." King claimed that Obama's executive amnesty is a
"purely cynical move" that seeks to document "undocumented
Democrats" while dividing Republicans and fracturing "our
constitutional republic" and the rule of law.
King said Americans have been "commanded by history to defend the
constitution" and reject Obama's executive amnesty that undermines the
rule of law but said impeachment should be considered as an absolute last
resort.
In July, King called on Congress to start impeachment proceedings if Obama
went forward with his executive amnesty.
"From my standpoint, if the president [enacts more executive actions],
we need to bring impeachment hearings immediately before the House of
Representatives," King explicitly
said in July on Breitbart News Saturday. "That's my position and
that's my prediction."

comment As President Barack Obama considers unilaterally expanding his temporary amnesty program to the parents of illegal immigrants, federal officials have noticed an increase in pregnant unaccompanied youth under the age of 18 who are unlawfully crossing the U.S-Mexico border.
A leaked June 4,
2014, internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report from
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that Breitbart Texas obtained found
that there has been an increase in the number of "minors coming into the
U.S. who are pregnant."
Children born in
the United States are given U.S. citizenship, and Obama has indicated that he
is considering giving temporary amnesty and work permits to the parents of U.S.
citizens and parents of illegal immigrant children.
After Obama unilaterally enacted his temporary amnesty
program for certain
DREAMers in 2012, the number of illegal
immigrant children flooding across the
border has surged,
especially from Central America.
According to The Christian Science Monitor, "During
the decade preceding fiscal year 2012, the federal government agency tasked
with caring for unaccompanied minors who cross the border illegally dealt with
an average of 7,000 to 8,000 cases a year." In fiscal year 2011, there
were 6,560, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. Yet,
as the Monitor noted, the
following year, when Obama enacted DACA, "the number jumped to
13,625," and at least 50,000 have entered illegally since October of last
year. Officials estimate at least 150,000-160,000 more will try next year.
Though White
House officials have gone on a public relations campaign to tell Central
Americans that they will not receive amnesty, many illegal immigrants have said
they traveled to America believing the Obama administration would never deport
them if they made it across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Surprise,
surprise; Census Bureau data reveals that most U.S. families headed by illegal
immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare programs on behalf of their
American-born anchor babies.

Taxpayers
in the nation’s most populous county dished out nearly $50 million in a single
month to cover only the welfare costs of illegal immigrants, representing a
whopping $10 million increase over the same one-month period two years
ago.
In
June 2009 alone Los Angeles County spent $48 million ($26 million in food
stamps and $22 million in welfare) to provide just two of numerous free public
services to the children of illegal aliens, which will translate into an annual
tab of nearly $600 million for the cash-strapped county.
The
figure doesn’t even include the exorbitant cost of educating, medically
treating or incarcerating illegal aliens in the sprawling county of about 10
million residents. Los Angeles County annually spends more than $1 billion for
those combined services, including $400 million for healthcare and $350 million
for public safety.
The
recent single-month welfare figure was obtained from the county’s Department of
Social Services and made public by a county supervisor (Michael Antonovich) who
assures illegal immigration continues to have a “catastrophic
impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers.” The veteran lawmaker points out that 24% of the county’s
total allotment of welfare and food stamp benefits goes directly to the
children of illegal aliens—known as anchor babies—born in the United States.
A
former fifth-grade history teacher who has served on the county’s board for
nearly three decades, Antonovich has repeatedly come under fire for publicizing
statistics that confirm the devastation illegal immigration has had on the
region. Antonovich represents a portion of the county that is roughly twice the
size of Rhode Island and has about 2 million residents.
Numerous other reports have
documented the enormous cost of illegal immigration on a national level. Just
last year a renowned economist, who has thoroughly researched the impact of
illegal immigration, published a book breaking down the country’s $346 billion annual
cost to educate, jail, medically treat and incarcerate illegal aliens
throughout the U.S.

Jose Herria emigrated illegally from Mexico to Stockton, Calif., in 1997 to work as a fruit picker. He brought with him his wife, Felipa, and three children, 19, 12 and 8 -- all illegals. When Felipa gave birth to her fourth child, daughter Flor, the family had what is referred to as an "anchor baby" -- an American citizen by birth who provided the entire Silverio clan a ticket to remain in the U.S. permanently.
