The report found that 14.8 percent of the country’s population lived in poverty
in 2014, statistically unchanged from a year prior. Blacks had the highest
poverty rate in 2014 at 26.2 percent, which was a one percentage point increase
over 2013. Among children and teenagers under the age of 18, approximately 15.5
million, or 21.1 percent, lived in poverty.
