GOP Hispanic leaders open to reconciling with Trump

Prominent Hispanic conservatives say they could back Donald Trump if the presumptive GOP nominee changes his tone and walks back some of his policy positions.
Republican Latino leaders have chaffed at Trump’s call for a wall on the southern border and statements from his campaign launch about rapists and criminals coming across the border from Mexico.

The tone and policy positions have contributed to Trump’s unpopularity with Hispanics. Trump trailed Clinton by 39 points among Hispanic voters in a Fox News Latino poll released on Friday.
But prominent voices in the conservative Hispanic world say they’re ready to move toward Trump if he can move toward them.
Alfonso Aguilar, a former White House official under President George W. Bush who now leads the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, said he’d be open to a conversation.
Aguilar has criticized Trump in the past, but he praised the presumptive nominee’s decision to send a video to this weekend’s National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC). Trump's video aired Friday night, along with one from Clinton.
“If in the process of unification, he were to seek my support and show he’s willing to change his tone and be open to some form of legalization, I would be willing to reconsider my position,” he said.

BLOG: THE VOICE OF LA RAZA FASCISM
“He’s done with the Latino community, he’s

done with the Latino conservatives,” Aguilar

said on Fox News in October. “If Donald

Trump is the GOP candidate, we won’t work

to support him and we are sure he will lose

the general election because there’s no way

GOP candidate can win the White House if

they don’t get more support from Latino

voters.”
There are signs that Trump is seeking to change his image with Hispanics.
Besides the video address to the Christian conference, he met at Trump Tower earlier this month with Rev. Mario Bramnick, a member of the group’s board.
Bramnick told Time Magazine that Trump “showed a tremendous understanding and concern for the undocumented immigrants.”
While Trump would not commit to any specific policy changes, Bramnick told Time the general takeaway was one of inclusion.
“We all came out really sensing his genuineness,” he said.
“We didn’t get into specifics other than that he wants to work with us, work with the Hispanic community, Hispanic leadership on substantive policy regarding immigration.”
Trump has also spoken with former Sen. Mel Martinez (Fla.), a former Republican National Committee chairman.
Martinez would not elaborate on the conversation but told The Hill over email that he has not yet decided whether he’ll endorse Trump and “will be continuing to see how things develop.
That’s a stark contrast from Martinez’s comments to The Wall Street Journal in February about whether he’d vote for Trump.
“If there is any, any, any other choice, a living, breathing person with a pulse, I would be there,” he said.
Trump doesn’t need to win a majority of Hispanics to win the White House, but he certainly can’t afford the risk of doing worse than 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who won only 27 percent of the Hispanic vote.
Giving Trump supporters some optimism, the Fox poll showed Clinton has high negatives with Hispanics. Forty-one percent of Hispanics polled held a negative view of Clinton. A much higher number — 74 percent — hold an unfavorable view of Trump, but it suggests some vulnerability for Clinton.
Still, GOP Hispanics say Trump has a long way to go.
“Regardless of how many speeches he gives, the question is, is he going to change his tone when he talks about Mexican-American immigrants, and on immigration, is he going to be more constructive?” said Aguilar, who has yet to be contacted by Trump.
Any Trump move toward Hispanics could also represent a difficult balancing act. His promises of mass deportations and a huge wall built by Mexico are crucial points of appeal to his most vocal supporters.
A January poll from The Wall Street Journal

found that Trump held a dramatic lead

among GOP primary voters who believe

immigrants strongly weaken the country.

But Trump has repeatedly said “everything is negotiable,” leaving an opening for movement.

Study shows immigrants use 40% more welfare than native born

A report from the Centers for Immigration Studies shows that immigrants tap into our welfare system far more than native born Americans.

Daily Caller:
The average immigrant household draws more than $6,000 from the welfare system in a year, costing U.S. taxpayers 41 percent more than people born in the country, a new study finds.

Immigrants with low education levels and higher numbers of children tend to use up the most benefits, according to the analysis by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), which found immigrant families consume $6,234 a year on average. The benefits come in the form of cash payments, food, Medicaid and housing.

Illegal immigrant households are included in the figure, since some can access the system through their U.S.-born children. Although illegal immigrants are barred from accessing welfare payments, CIS determined the households still cost the system more than $5,600 in a year on average.

The study follows CIS reports last year that 51 percent of households led by immigrants use at least one welfare program, and legal immigrants account for 75 percent of all immigrant welfare use. Many immigrants hold jobs, but still qualify for welfare because they tend to make less money and have more children.

“If we continue to permit large numbers of less-educated people to move here from abroad, we have to accept that there will be huge and ongoing costs to taxpayers,” CIS executive director Mark Krikorian said in a statement announcing the study.

More than 24 percent of immigrant households are led by a high school dropout, compared to 8 percent of households led by individuals born in the country. Thirteen percent of immigrant-led households have three or more children, compared to just 6 percent of U.S.-born households.
If we lived in a country with an intelligent, logical, and reasonable immigration policy, this simply wouldn't happen. An immigrant would have to demonstrate that they have jobs skills so that they could support themselves. It would follow that these newcomers would have the education that would allow them to aquire the job skills to make them useful members of society.

Instead, we are admitting millions of nearly illiterate peasants from Central America and Mexico who will be dependent on the taxpayer until their children are grown. This makes a mockery of America being a land of opportunity when poverty, ignorance, and dependence prevent recent immigrants from moving ahead and become self sufficient.

APPARENTLY MEXICO'S LOOTING IN OUR OPEN

Obama expanded his power domestically far more than any other president in memory. His executive action on immigration is a good example of legislating from the bureaucracy by implementing policies directly contrary to existing law and anything Congress would be willing to do.
The server scandal is a metaphor for the old Hillary — opaque, controlling, paranoid, ruthless and power-hungry. It's proof that she hasn't changed.

87 Criminal Aliens, Gang Members Arrested in Nevada

More than 80 criminal aliens and gang members were arrested in Reno and Las Vegas, Nevada last week, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a continuation of recent operations
targeting illegal immigrant convicts, ICE
Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO)
officers arrested 87 foreign nationals, whose
crimes and affiliations were heinous enough
to warrant enforcement under the Obama
administration’s immigration “priorities.”
Over the five-day dragnet, which concluded late last week, ERO officers arrested 65 criminal aliens in the Las Vegas area and 22 in Reno.
The arrestees had convictions for drug
trafficking, weapons violations, child sex
offenses, domestic violence, and re-entry
following a deportation. Two were confirmed
gang members.
The recent enforcement operations occur as immigration hawks question the Obama administration’s commitment to immigration enforcement — even against criminal aliens. In recent years ICE’s deportation levels have been on the decline, dropping 43 percent from FY 2012 to FY 2015. In that same timeframe ICE removed 41 percent fewer criminals.
Salt Lake City Field Office Director Daniel Bible highlighted the operations Monday as an example of the benefits provided under the administration’s “priorities” for enforcement strategy.
“By taking these individuals off our streets and ultimately removing them from the country, we are making our communities safer for everyone,” Bible said in a statement.
The arrestees’ were from nine different countries, including 65 criminal alien arrestees from Mexico and 10 from El Salvador. Guatemala, Honduras, Peru, the Philippines, and Cuba each had two arrestees. Additionally one of the arrested criminal aliens was from Taiwan and another from Vietnam.
Among those arrested, ICE highlighted:
-A previously deported 55-year-old Mexican national with a prior felony conviction for transporting and selling heroin;
-A 57-year-old Mexican national convicted of lewdness with a child under 14 that resulted in a four to 10-year sentence in state prison; and a
-42-year-old Salvadoran national with multiple prior felony convictions, including one for statutory sexual seduction.
-A 33-year-old Mexican national with past convictions for drug trafficking, domestic battery, and DUI; and a
-A 19-year-old Mexican national gang member with prior convictions for resisting an officer and robbery.

VIDEO: 17 Suspected Illegal Aliens Caught off California Coast

Seventeen suspected illegal aliens aboard a panga boat sent a

distress signal off the coast of San Diego on Tuesday morning

that led the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border

Protection (CBP) to apprehend the group.

Video of the stranded boat was released, along with the Coast Guard’s announcement that the 17 aboard were taken to a local Border Patrol station for processing.

Crew aboard the 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter spotted a flare around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday morning off the coast of San Diego, according to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders also received a 911 call around 5:30 a.m. from one of the persons aboard the panga boat.

The Coast Guard release described the operation to find and rescue those aboard:
A Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk crew and CBP AMO UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter crew immediately launched to search and at approximately 6:50 a.m., the CBP AMO Blackhawk crew located the vessel approximately eight miles west of Pacific Beach, in San Diego.
At 8:15 a.m., the Sea Otter’s crew arrived on scene with the vessel and safely rescued 17 suspected illegal migrants from the disabled panga.
The group was picked up approximately eight miles off of San Diego’s Pacific Beach, and delivered to Shelter Island. From there, the Marine Task Force took the group into custody. The 17 were then transported to the Border Patrol office.

Last August, illegal aliens were caught at least twice trying to enter the United States off the coast of southern California. Also last August, a lawsuit was filed naming three CBP agents over the death of an illegal alien aboard a panga boat. The Mexican national perished as a boat of illegal aliens attempted to evade capture and capsized.
