SAD STORY.... BEST FRIENDS, BLIND DASCHSHUND AND PIT BULL PAL WERE DUMPED.... ARE NOW REUNITED and needing forever home!

Best friends furever: Blind dachshund and his pit bull pal are reunited again and looking for a forever home after adoption went horribly wrong and left one of the duo dumped on the side of the road

  • OJ and Blue Dozer were together for four years before owner became homeless
  • They were taken to Richmond Animal Care and Control and their story went viral
  • OJ, the dachshund, relies on Blind Dozer as a guide dog to figure out where to go
  • Two days after they were adopted together, OJ found 100 miles away on road
  • His owner decided they wanted to keep Blue Dozer but gave OJ back to shelter
  • Shelter begged them to let pair stay together, now they're back up for adoption
It was a sweet tale that had captured the hearts of thousands: A tiny blind dachshund and his pit bull guide dog were adopted together from a Virginia shelter.
But, just days later, the dachshund named OJ was found on the side of a rural road 100 miles away from his best friend Blue Dozer, safe and sound in their new home.
It was a tragic tale that devastated many who had been following OJ and Blue Dozer's story on Facebook. But, thankfully, it has a happy ending.
The pair have been reunited at the Richmond Animal Care and Control, and are once again looking for a new home together.

OJ and Blue Dozer first arrived at the shelter on April 20 after their owner became homeless, according to the Washington Post
She had adopted Blue Dozer from the same shelter four years ago and then introduced him to OJ. They immediately became best friends.
OJ can only detect shadows and now needs to follow behind Blue Dozer to get around.
Their owner's only request to the shelter was that the dogs be adopted together.
Volunteers came flooding in after the shelter posted about the pair on Facebook, calling their relationship the 'cutest (and saddest) thing'.
'OJ is blind and depends on Dozer to show him around,' the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.
'We can’t stand the cuteness and kindness these two share. Anyone willing to love a bonded pair of perfection?'
A woman, whose identity has not been released, adopted OJ and Blue Dozer on Sunday and the shelter shared the good news on Facebook.
But just two days later 12-year-old OJ found himself at the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center in Staunton.
A Good Samaritan had seen him on the side of the road and thought he was a stray.
The Shenandoah shelter was able to scan OJ's microchip and found out he had come from RACC.

They received the contact information of the woman who adopted OJ and she claimed that someone had been 'watching' him for the family.
Then the woman revealed that she did not want OJ anymore, but planned to keep Blue Dozer.
The news was devastating to RCAA director Christie Chipps Peters, who knew how important it was that OJ and Blue Dozer stick together.
Peters spent hours talking to the woman to try and persuade her to bring the six-year-old pit bull back to the shelter.
'She really loved that dog. She wanted to keep him,' Peters said.
The director revealed that, as the dogs' story became viral, the woman claimed she had been receiving hundreds of death threats on social media.
But she finally relented and gave Blue Dozer back to the shelter. The dogs immediately wiggled their tails and began to cuddle when they saw each other.
The shelter posted a picture of the sweet reunion on Facebook but also addressed the controversy that had surrounded their separation.

'We do not support any act of violence or threat of violence towards anyone. Ever,' the post read.
'The only thing that matters is these sweet dogs get to stay together - and in the end that is what we have.'
'Our work is about love and compassion for animals - please extend that kindness to humans.'
RCAA also added that it could not 'account for decisions that are made by citizens after adoption.'
'In the end, we have to trust people - trust them to love the pets we have cared for, and trust them to do what is best,' a statement read.
The shelter revealed it is going to let OJ and Blue Dozer snuggle in peace for a few days before deciding 'if and when' they will be available for adoption.
Peters' main concern is that the dogs stay together, and the shelter will require the next adopter to sign a document promising not to separate them.

Baby's best friend!

Adorable snaps capture the special bond between newborns and animals - from protective pooches to fluffy chicks

They say that dogs are man's best friend, but these heartwarming photos prove they get along just fine with babies, too.
Taken by London-based photographer Sujata Setia, 35, the images show newborns and adorable family pets snuggling together for a stunning photoshoot.
The sleeping babies can be seen napping with protective pooches, watchful cats and even tiny, fluffy chicks.
The photographer's own dog, Mustang, who sparked the idea for her project, also makes an appearance.

Setia, who owns But Natural Photography, started photographing children and their pets after Mustang came into her life two years ago.
'He was a little puppy when we bought him and I felt the urge to capture the special moment he and my daughter shared,' she said.
'Once I started photographing them it almost became an addiction. Soon my clients were asking me to photograph their babies with Mustang and their pets.'
It was then that the photographer came up with the idea to create an entire project around the relationship between children and animals.

Setia now takes snaps of babies and pets whenever she travels around the world.
She believes the bond is an important part of childhood, and says that, as adults, animals can help us to stay in touch with their inner child.
'I call it magical realism; the innocence and the magic of childhood is what I capture. I feel like every child needs a furry friend,' she said.
'There is a lot you can learn from having a furry being in your home but most importantly it keeps the child alive in you, no matter how old you grow. And it is that childhood that I project through all my work.'

Sujata, who took the photographs with a Nikon D800, explained the process behind the images and the problems she can run into.
'It is a very detailed process,' she said.
'Safety of both the children and their furry friends is most important. I make sure that the furry babies involved are pets of the family. Parents and an assistant are always by my side to always take care.
'I sometimes wait for hours to let the baby go off to sleep naturally and then literally place their fur buddy around them.

'Appropriate use of natural light helps in creating the dreamy images that you see. I step outdoors at the times of the day when light is soft enough for me to shoot a good image.
'It's mostly about being patient and being good with babies and animals both. It is important to make sure none of them are stressed out so I need to be very quick with my shots.
'Sometimes my shoot literally takes two minutes and sometimes I have to cancel all of it because the babies and or the animal are not happy being a part of it.'

'My work is a window to the person I am and have become over time,' she said.
'It was born at a time when I was feeling misplaced in a new country trying to seek an identity. I felt removed from the comfort zone of being in my own country with my own people and so my work is all about hope, about the beauty and memories of childhood.
'I always tell my daughter that "magic is real, believe in it" and that is exactly what I showcase through my work - faith in magic and the magic of childhood.
