The mayor of the Mexican border city of Tijuana declared a humanitarian crisis on Thursday and slammed his federal government’s response. The mayor said the government failed to provide adequate aid for the migrant caravan that flooded into the beleaguered city as reported. by local media.
Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastélum Buenrostro declared a humanitarian crisis in response to the more than 5,000 migrants who arrived in the city as part of the caravan attempting to seek asylum in the United States, according to local media reports. Additional migrants are expected to arrive daily.
“I am not going to compromise Tijuana’s public services,” said Mayor Gastélum Buenrostro. The mayor vowed not to bankrupt his city to care for the thousands of migrants. The mayor called on international groups like the United Nations to assist with the migrant crisis in the absence of a response from the federal government of Mexico.
The declaration of a humanitarian crisis by the mayor came on the same day that a group of approximately 150-200 migrants broke free from the larger group and began to march to El Chaparral vehicle border crossing. The group intended on requesting asylum upon reaching the U.S. border as reported by local media. This group, which had been primarily housed at the Unidad Deportiva Benito Juarez sports complex, was stopped by federal police on the bridge approximately 500 feet from the U.S. border. Officials converted the sports complex to a temporary shelter. The group then peacefully voiced their complaints and returned back to the makeshift shelter which is now at full capacity.
Tijuana mayor Gastélum Buenrostro has been sharply criticized by the local media and, at the same time,  praised by citizens of Tijuana on social media for his hardline approach in handling the migrant crisis. According to local media reports, the mayor was observed wearing a red hat that read, “Make Tijuana Great Again” — a reference to President Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign slogan.
Meanwhile, government authorities in nearby Mexicali announced that 15 buses escorted by federal police arrived between late Wednesday and early Thursday morning. The convoy arrived with a total of 750 migrants of primarily from Honduras as reported by local media. On early Friday morning, an additional 400 migrants arrived in Mexicali. Media reports indicate that 300 migrants decided to leave Mexicali on foot and head towards Tijuana which is approximately 113 miles to the west.
Breitbart News reported on the movement of the caravan through Mexico into Tijuana and the arrival of additional caravans. Approximately one week ago, Breitbart Texas reportedon Mexican protesters who took to the streets to protest the growing influx of Central American migrants who arrived in the border city of Tijuana.

‘The Left Case Against Open Borders’: Liberal Author Pans ‘Useful Idiots of Big Business’

Supporters of immigrants' rights march in downtown Washington during an immigration protest Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, in Washington. Progressives’ enthusiastic support for mass immigration has converted them into “useful idiots” for the nation’s business elites, says a left-wing writer.

Irish author Angela Nagle writes:
Today’s well-intentioned activists have become the useful idiots of big business. With their adoption of “open borders” advocacy—and a fierce moral absolutism that regards any limit to migration as an unspeakable evil—any criticism of the exploitative system of mass migration is effectively dismissed as blasphemy. Even solidly leftist politicians, like Bernie Sanders in the United States and Jeremy Corbyn in the United Kingdom, are accused of “nativism” by critics if they recognize the legitimacy of borders or migration restriction at any point. This open borders radicalism ultimately benefits the elites within the most powerful countries in the world, further disempowers organized labor, robs the developing world of desperately needed professionals, and turns workers against workers.
Nagle also argues that mass immigration operates extracts human talent from developing societies for the benefit of wealthy, comfortable U.S. elites:
Advocates of open borders often overlook the costs of mass migration for developing countries. Indeed, globalization often creates a vicious cycle: liberalized trade policies destroy a region’s economy, which in turn leads to mass emigration from that area, further eroding the potential of the origin country while depressing wages for the lowest paid workers in the destination country. One of the major causes of labor migration from Mexico to the United States has been the economic and social devastation caused by the North American Free Trade Agreement (nafta). Nafta forced Mexican farmers to compete with U.S. agriculture, with disastrous consequences for Mexico. Mexican imports doubled, and Mexico lost thousands of pig farms and corn growers to U.S. competition. When coffee prices fell below the cost of production, nafta prohibited state intervention to keep growers afloat. Additionally, U.S. companies were allowed to buy infrastructure in Mexico, including, for example, the country’s main north-south rail line. The railroad then discontinued passenger service, resulting in the decimation of the rail workforce after a wildcat strike was crushed. By 2002, Mexican wages had dropped by 22 percent, even though worker productivity increased by 45 percent.7 In regions like Oaxaca, emigration devastated local economies and communities, as men emigrated to work in America’s farm labor force and slaughterhouses, leaving behind women, children, and the elderly.
Left-wing servants of business elites spray claims of racism on the public to suppress their rational and reasonable opposition to immigration exploitation, Nagle argues:
The immigration expansionists have two key weapons. One is the big business and financial interests all working on their side, but an equally powerful weapon—wielded more expertly by the left-leaning immigration expansionists—is moral blackmail and public shame. People are right to see the mistreatment of migrants as morally wrong. Many people are concerned about the growth of racism and callousness toward minorities that often accompanies anti-immigration sentiment. But the open borders position does not even live up to its own professed moral code.
The tacit alliance of the wealthy against the middle prompt some invective by the Irish author;
In the wealthiest nations, open borders advocacy seems to function as a fanatical cult among true believers—a product of big business and free market lobbying is carried along by a larger group of the urban creative, tech, media, and knowledge economy class, who are serving their own objective class interests by keeping their transient lifestyles cheap and their careers intact as they parrot the institutional ideology of their industries. The truth is that mass migration is a tragedy, and upper-middle-class moralizing about it is a farce. Perhaps the ultra-wealthy can afford to live in the borderless world they aggressively advocate for, but most people need—and want—a coherent, sovereign political body to defend their rights as citizens.
Read it all here.
The establishment’s economic policy of using migration to boost economic growth shifts wealth from young people towards older people by flooding the market with cheap white-collar and blue-collar foreign labor. That flood of outside labor spikes profits and Wall Street values by cutting salaries for manual and skilled labor offered by blue-collar and white-collar employees.
The policy also drives up real estate prices, widens wealth-gaps, reduces high-tech investment, increases state and local tax burdens, hurts kids’ schools and college education, pushes Americans away from high-tech careers, and sidelines at least five million marginalized Americans and their families, including many who are now struggling with opioid addictions.
Immigration also pulls investment and wealth away from heartland states because coastal investors can more easily hire and supervise the large immigrant populations living in the coastal states.

Despite a relatively good economy, local food pantries are seeing a double-digit increase in the number of hungry residents. Des Moines [Iowa] pantries normally expect about a 3.5 percent increase each month, compared to the previous year. But for the last six months, that increase has more than tripled in the metro area, said Rev. Sarai Schnucker Rice, executive director of the Des Moines Area Religious Council, which oversees the network of 14 local pantries. (Des Moines Register)

108 caravan migrants arrested for crimes in Tijuana, so far...

The Department of Homeland Security took a lot of flak for identifying 500 migrants traveling with the Central American caravan as known criminals. And President Trump was blasted in the press for saying the caravan had a lot of "rough people." But what's undercover intelligence compared to the media narrative that the caravan is just moms and kids, fleeing gangs?
Actually, the migrants are the gang.
Buried deep in this RT News story, with an official link, is news that the Tijuana cops have arrested 108 migrants on criminal charges. Not old charges, but charges for crimes committed upon arriving.
The city authorities have released new data on Friday which statesthat 108 Central American migrants have been arrested so far, including 104 for administrative offenses, such as possession of drugs, public intoxication and disturbance. The remaining four are to be prosecuted for robbery, fights and insulting authorities.
Sound like the kind of people who ought to be allowed in here?
Screengrab from Fox News via YouTube
They've only been in the city for a few days and already they are committing this many crimes? That's a lot of crime from so-called moms and kids fleeing "violence." From a group of 6,200 migrants camped out, 108 crooks that the cops know about and were able to catch signals quite a few criminals in the group. And that's the crooks the cops know about. It doesn't include the criminals whose crimes weren't reported to the police, or the crimes whose migrant perpetrators got away from the cops, or any potential situations that were resolved by "mordida," or, the bribing of corrupt cops, which is something that sometimes happens in Tijuana, though not to the extent it did in the past. Nor does it include past crimes. Just the crimes committed on the spot upon arrival that the cops were able to catch.
Seems the 500 criminals are doing their level best to make themselves known. And don't think there won't be more as the months pass and migrants await their asylum claims to be processed, likely rounding the figure upwards to at least 500. Did the Tijuana people have a point after all in their protests?
Score one for Homeland Security.
The silver lining here is that with the migrants cooling their heels in Mexico for the next six months, the crooks now have time to out themselves as the Tijuana police scoop them up one by one, and pitch them into the local hoosegow. Presumably, the asylum claims of such criminals would be rejected and the problem could sort itself out all by itself.
Unless the U.S.'s lefty judges let them in anyway on fake asylum claims in their bid to Get Trump.

Caravan migrant who disdained donated Mexican food as fit 'for pigs' expects free U.S. health care

The migrant caravan making its way to the U.S. in a bid to cut the line ahead of legal immigrants has revealed quite a few instances of chutzpah and ingratitude, in part because its participants aren't really the mere moms and kids fleeing violence that their organizers say they are.
The instance that stands out is the one of a rather well-fed-looking Honduran woman named Miriam Celaya holding up a plate of tortillas and beans donated by the Mexicans, screwing up her nose disdainfully at the plate that looks as though it actually had fingers dragged through it, and explaining to a Deutsche Welle interviewer that it was food "for pigs."
Now, the food was donated food by the Mexicans, whose government is spending $26,000 a day on housing and feeding the migrants and it represents the normal cuisine of the country. When you go to Mexico, tortillas and beans are what you eat. It's something everyone eats, too. War story: Back when I was a reporter for Forbes magazine, doing the Mexican billionaire's list, I had breakfast with Mexican billionaire Maria Asuncion Aramburuzabala, who owns much of the Corona beer fortune. What did she order at the restaurant we met at? Kid you not, tortillas and beans.
If the Honduran migrant here can't handle tortillas and beans without dragging her fingers through the plate and calling it pig food, how is she going to handle American food? There's kind of an assimilation deficit.
More importantly, there's a gratitude deficit. And that was obvious enough to the Mexicans, who obviously see beggars who insist on being choosers. It's not just bad character we are seeing - it's actually proof that the migrants, with their new logo-festooned clothes and expensive strollers, aren't really all that poor at all: like most migrants, they are members of their country's lower middle classes, well fed to the point of being overweight as many are and accustomed to certain things. Tijuanans protested these migrants over the weekend, in part because of the ingratitude showed for the imposition thrown at them. At the protest Sunday, they actually did chants shouting their favor of tortillas and beans based on widespread outrage at the video.
Knowing her remarks were making the caravan migrants unpopular in Tijuana, Celaya, or someone making Celaya do it, apologized. According to Newsweek:
As a result, BBC Mundo reached out to the woman identified as Miriam Celaya, who “apologized to all Mexicans” on Wednesday. She explained to the media outlet that she left Honduras so that her daughter could receive treatment in the U.S for her hearing and speech loss.
But for us in the U.S., the apology revealed even more undesirable things. She apologized because she said she was coming to the U.S. to get health care for her daughter, who had some expensive medical conditions? That's a rationale for ingratitude? Because it's important to make gringo pay instead? She wasn't looking to escape violence, she was coming for the free stuff. And that's the sort of person the U.S. should let in above all other legal immigrants if the leftwing press is to be believed? Given her requirements on the food front, whatever free health care America has to offer her isn't likely to satisfy her, either. And if the Mexicans are paying $26,000 in meals, imagine what the U.S. health care she's not going to pay for is going to cost.
Guess who's gets to pay for that one?

Migrants Report Mexican Officials Seek Money to Allow U.S. Border Access

Thousands of migrants are still arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, hoping to be allowed into the country as asylum seekers. But many are claiming Mexican officials are asking for money to allow them to proceed across bridges that would take them to a U.S. border checkpoint.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Mexican officials are also overseeing a waiting list of migrants seeking entry into the U.S.
“The asylum seekers and immigrant-rights advocates say that has put them at risk of extortion, discrimination, and deportation, with many telling of Mexican officials demanding money to let them pass and of watching others, further down the list, cross ahead of them,” the Times reported.
The Times claimed the waiting list protocol comes from the Trump administration as a way to delay entry to the migrants after a federal judge ruled that the U.S. could not enforce federal immigration law that does not allow asylum status to people who bypass official ports of entry and enter the country illegally.
But U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) told the Times the agency “processes undocumented persons as expeditiously as possible” and denied it was involved in selecting who from the list enters.
“Nationality has absolutely no bearing on the processing” of asylum seekers, and those on the lists are “processed on a first-come, first-serve basis,” the agency said.
CPB told the Times it “does take into consideration persons with medical emergencies, unaccompanied alien children, the disabled, and gives priority as we can, bearing in mind the day-to-day availability of resources, case complexity, holding space, port volume and enforcement actions.”
The waiting list, CPB officials said, is a way to manage the ongoing crush of migrants on two bridges from Mexico to the United States.
The Times reported:
Cuban asylum seeker Elvis Gonzalez Rodriguez said that when he arrived at the old bridge last week, a uniformed Mexican immigration official demanded he pay $1,000 to cross. Gonzalez, 23, refused, and the official made him leave. At the newer bridge, a backpack containing his passport and cash was stolen, he said. He returned to the old bridge and was forced off by Mexican immigration officials three more times.
Another Cuban asylum seeker said a uniformed Mexican immigration official demanded $500 to get her across the old bridge after she arrived at Matamoros airport in mid-October. She said she gave the official her passport and $300 at the airport, then got nervous.
“He didn’t seem trustworthy, so I left,” said Rosa Maria, 50, who did not give her full name for fear of retribution, according to the Times.
Rosa Maria said she had received calls on her cell phone from people who said they paid Mexican officials $100 to $300 to bypass being put on the list and to gain entry into the U.S.
“Cuban asylum seeker Leonardo Mederos, 30, said he paid a smuggler $4,000 to get him to a border bridge to the west in Reynosa, a Gulf cartel stronghold, where the smuggler assured him he would be able to cross and join relatives in Miami,” the Times reported.
CBP said of Mexican officials allegedly seeking payment from migrants: “Mexico is a sovereign nation, and our authorities do not cross international boundaries. Actions of Mexican officials, or people in Mexico, should be addressed to the government of Mexico including any actions taken on the Mexican side of bridges and in the border cities of Mexico.”

Trump initially tried to investigate real interference in our elections.  He set up a commission to investigate voter fraud chaired by Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach.  But when the liberal media cried that the commission was all about voter suppression, Trump folded like a cheap umbrella.  He shut down the commission before it could complete its research into what is probably massive voter fraud on the part of Mexican and other foreign nationals. ED STRAKER

Washington Post: Human Smugglers Reward Migrants Who Bring Children to the Border

Human smugglers slash their $10,000 per-person price when migrants bring children up to the U.S. border to exploit asylum loopholes, says the Washington Post.

Reached by phone in Kansas City, [Denys Adelmo] Mejia said he saved thousands of dollars by traveling with a child. His smuggler would have charged $10,000 if he had been traveling alone, he said; with Elizabeth Dayana, it cost $4,500 for both of them. He has three years to pay this off — in monthly installments — or his mother could lose her house.
“When you come with a child, [the smuggler] only delivers you to the Border Patrol,” said Mejia. “When you’re coming alone, they have to take you all the way across the desert.”
The loopholes have been created, cheered, and widened by American progressives, including lawyers at the ACLU and many elite legal firms, activists at pro-migration groups, Democrats in Congress, and reporters in many media outlets. The resulting inflow of illegal immigrants is cheered on by business groups because it delivers new wage-cutting workers and more consumers to their doors.
The reward for bringing children is so high that villages are losing many children and migrants even are making deals to bring other people’s children, and then claim them as their own kids at the U.S. border, the Post reported:
“This is the most serious problem that we have,” said Juan Jose Arita Rivera, the town’s mayor.
Between April and Setepmber, U.S border officials separated 170 migrants from the children they incorrectly claimed to be their own children, the Washington Post said. The article includes two examples of children being brought northwards by migrants who are not their parents.
The rising inflow of faked families comes as Democrats continue their loud complaints that President Donald Trump’s policies are causing “family separation” among migrants.

ACLU etc. get a friend in the 9th circuit to block the President 's defense of the nation's borders, despite competing clauses in 1965 law. Pity about elections, votes & Americans' wages, but investors want cheap labor & postgrads want cheap services. http://bit.ly/2PG2x5i

The article notes that many of the migrants bring the children who are cousins and buy faked documents from corrupt officials. Once the migrants are caught at the U.S. border and then released from the crowded detention facilities, they head to towns and cities that contain populations of prior migrants. This practice helps the migrants quickly land jobs — and the ability to get childcare — from prior migrants.
For example, the migrant in Kansas City, Mejia, lives with in-laws in Kansas City:
He and the [smuggled] girl now share a duplex with Mejia’s brother and his brother’s wife. Mejia wears an ankle bracelet as he waits for his asylum case to move through immigration courts. Because he cannot work legally or get a driver’s license, he said he cannot enroll Elizabeth Dayana in school.
This form of chain-migration has delivered massive numbers of Central Americans into the United States — and has now produced the caravans of migrants either waiting at or traveling to the U.S. border.

Trump builds a regulatory wall against the establishment-approved inflow of wage-cutting migrants. His determined policy was made possible by departed AG Jeff Sessions, and will be far more effective than Trump's concrete-and-rebar border wall. http://bit.ly/2AUugWR

In fiscal year 2018, for example, more than 100,000 migrants used this progressive-opened loophole to migrate into the United States, past the guards and fences at the border. Nearly all were released because of furious progressive opposition to Trump’s short-lived policy of holding adults at packed detention centers while sending the children to shelters run by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Once released, migrants must convince judges to approve their asylum. The vast majority are rejected — but most remain in the United States because few are caught and sent home by immigration officers.
The growing population of illegal economic migrants hiding in the United States helps grow the economy for older investors by cutting wages and salaries for Americans, and by driving up real-estate costs for young Americans.

Wall St. Journal admits that Central American laborers and shopkeepers are hacking US asylum law by bringing children to trigger catch & release. Maybe California judges should stop pretending migrants are helpless wards of progressives' telescopic charity http://bit.ly/2zg10sq
