According to the Federation
for American Immigration Reform’s 2017 report, illegal
immigrants, and their children, cost American taxpayers a net $116 billion
annually -- roughly $7,000 per alien annually. While high, this number is not
an outlier: a recent study by the Heritage
Foundation found that low-skilled immigrants (including those here
illegally) cost Americans trillions over
the course of their lifetimes, and a study from the National
Economics Editorial found that illegal immigration
costs America over $140 billion annually. As it stands, illegal immigrants are
a massive burden on American taxpayers.

There is nothing like a government shutdown to illustrate clearly the priorities of the two opposing sides to the standoff. On one side is President Trump, keeping a campaign promise to build a wall, to keep crime, sex-trafficking, drugs, and terrorism, not to mention the unfunded burden of illegal aliens, out of America.
On the other side are the Democrats, hell-bent on keeping 25 percent of the government closed for business rather than funding border security, a concept they wholeheartedly supported a decade ago.
Who's winning and who's losing the battle? If you watch cable news, it's clear that the president is on the ropes, having backed himself into a corner. Reality sings a different tune. How did we get here?
Donald Trump, announcing his candidacy for president in June 2015, rode down the escalator at Trump Tower and said, "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best." He went on, "They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
These were among his first pronouncements that day and have been a constant theme of his rallies and tweets since then – including this tweet from a few days ago.
Democrats were once in favor of border security, too. Many, including Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, voted for the Secure Fence Act of 2006. This provided for, "Operational control over the entire international land and maritime borders of the United States."
Now, because it's 2019 and Trump is president, Democrats are conveniently against border security. This is a common theme of Democrats, frequently for something before they are against it. Remember John Kerry and the Iraq War?
The current fight is over a mere $5 billion in funding for a wall – or a "fence" if the term "wall" is offensive, but a physical barrier between two nations, controlling who and what traipses from one country to the other. The federal budget is $4.4 trillion, meaning wall funding represents about a tenth of a percent of the budget, a rounding error. What else are Nancy Pelosi and colleagues spending money on? How about foreign aid?
The 2019 federal budget requests nearly $27 billion in foreign aid for economic development, health, humanitarian assistance, peace and security, and other objectives. This is over half the cost of securing "[t]he entire international land and maritime borders of the United States" something Democrats were keen about in 2006.
The Secure Fence Act of 2006 budgeted $50 billion over 25 years to control America's borders. Unfortunately, Congress appropriated only $1.4 billion and forgot about the rest. The foreign aid request above was for one single year. Two years of the foreign aid budget spent instead on U.S. border security would create the type of physical borders so common in the countries we are generously supporting.
Fund the world, but not America.
It's instructive to compare the current administration to the past one, since the media treat the last administration as the Second Coming and the current administration as the Fourth Reich.
In 2012, Congress appropriated $40 billion in foreign aid, a billion more than what was requested. In 2013, the amount went up to $43 billion appropriated. The following year, 2014, $42 billion was appropriated.
Let's look at what was actually spent on foreign aid in Barack Obama's final year of 2016: $31 billion total – more than half of what America needs to insure its own "peace and security."
Countries receiving American taxpayer largess include Pakistan, $687 million, the same country that provided sanctuary to Osama bin Laden. Seven point two billion dollars went to Afghanistan, with not much to show for it other than its opium products finding their way through our unsecure southern border.
Five hundred seventy million went to Syria, a country where I thought Obama was calling for regime change. Even China received $20 million. I thought China was our geopolitical and economic adversary! A few hundred million each went to most African countries, quickly adding up to the grand total of $31 billion.
This is not to say that all foreign aid is bad, as clearly, it is not. America is the most generous nation in the world. Much of our foreign aid is lifesaving. Much of it is also wasted or filling the Swiss bank accounts of foreign thug leaders – or worse, finding its way into the bank accounts of those who appropriated the money from the U.S. Treasury.
How else to explain members of Congress living in multimillion-dollar mansions or having net worths in the tens of millions while earning a congressional salary of under $200,000 per year?
An old proverb says, "Charity begins at home." Even the Bible reinforces the idea in 1 Timothy 5:8: "Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
American taxpayers are footing the bill not only for foreign aid, but also for illegal immigration, which costs U.S. taxpayers $115 billion a year.
Then there is the human toll, from Kate Steinle to police officer Ronil Singh. Or the previously deported illegal alien who viciously raped a woman in New York. Or another previously deported illegal who raped a child in Philadelphia.
Don't forget illegal drugs. Heroin and cocaine aren't produced domestically and instead transit our southern border. How much Chinese fentanyl is arriving through Mexico?
The United States gives about a million dollars a year in aid to Hungary, the same country that was able to fund the construction of "a second fence on the border with Serbia to keep migrants out."
Congress is happy to give money to countries to secure their borders, but House Democrats refuse to spend a dime for the same security measures in their own country.
Shameful, but the shutdown is illustrating Democrat priorities, especially for Pelosi-Schumer Democrats. Let's have the debate. Where do taxpayers want their hard-earned money to go? To foreign countries so they can secure their borders and protect their citizens? Or should some of that money stay here, providing safety and security for Americans?
Trump will get his wall, either through an eventual budget deal or via the military on the basis of national security. The shutdown may simply be Trump's way of exposing Democrat priorities, which are not for those they are elected to represent or the constitution they swore to support and defend.
Democrats may believe that the shutdown is a way to insulate themselves against exposure of their real priorities, but the longer the shutdown goes on, the more their insulation melts away.

Ahead of his Oval Office address on the southern border crisis, New York Times best-selling author and populist conservative columnist Ann Coulter says President Donald Trump must make the case to the American people that the border wall is the “compassionate solution” to stopping wage-crushing illegal immigration.
During an exclusive interview on SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Tonight, Coulter said Trump must make the humanitarian case for ending illegal immigration straight to the American people, noting that amnesty for illegal aliens must immediately be ruled out.

Coulter said Trump must make clear that it is the open borders lobby, corporate interests, and billionaire donor-class who benefit from mass illegal immigration while working and middle-class Americans are left suffering from its consequences.
“The wall is the compassionate solution,” Coulter said. “The people who don’t want a wall are absolutely selfish, they are in it for themselves. They are in it for the cheap labor; they are in it for the votes.”
“They don’t care about African Americans, they don’t care about Hispanic Americans,” Coulter continued. “They don’t care about the most voiceless Americans out there who are dying from heroin, who can’t support their families because they can’t get a good paying job because they’re being undercut by illegal aliens and all the cheap labor, legally, at the same time … they have no compassion for the women and children being raped and abused by the cartels.”

Coulter said that aside from American workers and the country’s working and middle class, Trump should speak directly to black American communities who have seen the most adverse impact of unchecked immigration, more than any other demographic.
“I would talk about the black underclass who don’t have jobs because they are being undercut,” Coulter said. “Right as the Civil Rights bill is passed … right, as they’re breaking into the middle class and the federal government, is demanding that they be given their share of the American dream, Teddy Kennedy’s immigration act dumps 30 million low-wage workers on the country, undercutting their wages at every turn.”
Every year, the U.S. admits about 1.1 million mostly low-skilled legal immigrants, many of whom immediately become low-wage competition for America’s working and middle class. The latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau marks a nearly 108-year record high of immigration to the country. In 2017, the foreign-born population boomed to 13.7 percent, encompassing 44.5 million immigrants.
The Washington, DC-imposed policy of mass immigration is a boon to corporate executives, Wall Street, big business, and multinational conglomerates, as every one percent increase in the immigrant composition of each occupation’s labor force reduces those Americans’ hourly wages by 0.4 percent. Every one percent increase in the immigrant workforce reduces Americans’ overall wages by 0.8 percent.

7 Points Trump Should Make in Oval Office Address About Border

President Donald Trump will deliver his first
address from the Oval Office on Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. ET. He will explain
why the country needs a physical barrier at the U.S-Mexico border, and why he
is refusing to consider bills to end the partial federal government shutdown
unless they provide the funding he is seeking.
Here are seven things Trump must
say.
1. The border issue is about
national security, the first priority of government. Americans are used to fights over immigration policy. This is
different. The nation faces a crisis at its southern border. The drug
cartels are taking advantage of our open border to smuggle drugs, weapons, and
people. They are also waging a bloody civil war that bleeds over into our
country. Everything else the government does is secondary to protecting the
country. There is literally no point to
opening the government until politicians are prepared to take care of its first
priority.
2. The first victims of the
Mexican cartels are the migrants and the countries from which they come. Cartels are brutal. They slaughter innocent civilians. They rape
the women and girls they are trafficking to criminals in the U.S. The drugs
they sneak into the U.S. kill thousands of Americans each year. And the
developing countries that migrants leave behind become poorer. Democrats who,
like Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), say“[t]here is no national emergency on our southern border,” are
encouraging the cartels. There
is nothing humane about an open border.
3. The border crisis has
nothing to do with legal immigration, which we embrace. Corporal Ronil Singh, a Newman, California police officer — and
legal immigrant — was murdered the day after Christmas by an alleged illegal
alien. Many Americans want less immigration — a debate for another day. Regardless, Americans respect
legal immigrants. We should reform our immigration laws, including those that
allow foreigners to claim amnesty as soon as they touch American soil. Corporal Singh gave his life to defend the
rule of law. That is what is at stake.
4. Illegal immigration hurts
all Americans, but especially legal immigrants, minorities, and the poor. With better border enforcement, black and Hispanic
unemployment is the lowest ever, and wages are rising for all Americans. Those
gains are threatened by illegal aliens who compete with U.S. citizens and legal
immigrants for jobs. Illegal immigration also hurts public health care and
education, as illegal aliens place additional burdens on services that are
already struggling. We
can have a generous welfare state, or open borders, but not both.
5. Democrats are hypocrites. Many Democrats — including Senate Minority Leader Chuck
Schumer (D-NY) — have voted for a
barrier at the border in the past. Border walls, and fences, are not
“immoral,” as Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps saying. Nor are they racist. They work
— which is why the European Union builds them, why our ally Israel builds them, and why even developing
countries in Africa build them. The main reason Democrats oppose a barrier at the border is
because they don’t want President Trump to have a political win. Stop making this personal.
6. We have to act now because
both parties failed in the past. Many Democrats want open borders because they see illegal
aliens as future voters. Many donor-class Republicans have tolerated illegal
immigration because of business demand for cheap labor. That is why both
parties have overlooked the laws they voted to pass, and ignored the wishes of
the American people. President Barack Obama told Congress in
2011: “I strongly believe that we should take on, once and for all, the issue
of illegal immigration.” They did nothing. We can no longer wait.
7. Let the engineers design a
barrier that works. The wall should not be a
Democratic or Republican issue. Nor should it be a budget issue: Democrats
are fighting over a mere $5 billion, when their own budget bill spends
tens of billions more in excess of White House requests on other items,
including foreign aid. The wall — or fence — is little more than an engineering
problem. We should let experts make their recommendations about what kind of
physical barriers to build at each point along the border. Let the engineers do their job — and let’s put
America first.

Members of Congress broadly oppose a
legislative nationwide E-Verify mandate for employers because “they know it
will work,” said NumbersUSA’s Rosemary Jenks, explaining why E-Verify is not
being pushed in congressional negotiations for an amnesty deal for recipients
of the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
