The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday gave victims of illegal alien crimes a bipartisan standing ovation on the floor of the chamber as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy read out the names of Americans killed by illegal aliens in a lengthy speech.

McCarthy began his speech bashing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s strategy on the government funding battle that has protected the “status quo” on immigration, a system that has led to serious consequences for American citizen victims of illegal immigration.

McCarthy said on the House floor:

At a time when the country expects its leaders in Washington to look forward, this House majority is looking backward. When our country expects solutions, they are using this chamber to settle political scores. As hundreds of thousands of Americans painfully experienced, portions of our federal government were shut down for 35 days. A shameful record under this majority’s watch. It was a shutdown that never had to happen.

McCarthy continued by recounting how the shutdown happened in large part due to obstruction from Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. He also walked through how President Donald Trump made a number of concessions and offers to Democrats to have an honest deal to end the shutdown and secure the border with a wall along the border but Democrats rejected them every time:

After the President signed a three-week continuing resolution the Speaker gloated with a Presidential-style enrollment ceremony. Democrats marveled at her exercise of raw political motivation. And many in the media responded like they were beat reporters for their hometown team. This all sounds like a historic moment! What exactly was everyone celebrating? Nothing. 
They were celebrating achieving nothing. They were celebrating a status quo that suits their political interests and personal pursuits of self-righteousness. A status quo that causes pain and suffering for Americans across this country.

From there, McCarthy walked through the statistics of American victims of illegal alien crimes and the effects that an insecure border has on the American public:

There have been 266,000 criminal aliens arrested the last two years. This includes charges or convictions of 100,000 assaults, nearly 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 violent killings. Three hundred Americans die every week from heroin. And More than 90 percent of heroin comes across the Southern border. And roughly 10,000 children are being smuggled into the U.S. every year to be sold for human trafficking.

McCarthy called it “zero sum politics,” and lamented how in Washington, D.C., “nothing ever changes.”

“Well I’d like to spend some time and reflect on Americans and their families who might not have been celebrating the status quo preserved by this majority,” McCarthy said.

At that stage, McCarthy then began reading off 50 names of Americans who were killed by illegal aliens–including many police officers. It was during McCarthy’s reading of these names that the powerful moment happened on the House floo, in whih all Republicans and all Democrats present–approximately 60 members in total, as the full House was not present for this speech–stood in unison, along with their staff members with them on the floor and people watching from the gallery–giving the Americans slain by illegal aliens a bipartisan standing ovation from the full House of Representatives.

“All members on the floor–both Republicans and Democrats–rose and solemnly stood as McCarthy read the victims’ names one by one,” a senior GOP aide who was on the floor at the time and witnessed the powerful moment told Breitbart News. “Even onlookers from the gallery joined. It was a very emotional and powerful moment.”

McCarthy was the GOP Speaker, and as he gave this speech, the House was split between Republicans and Democrats among the approximately 60 members present at about even, the GOP staffer present on the floor told Breitbart News, though as it went on there were more Republicans than Democrats there.

Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO), a Democrat and top member of the Congressional Black Caucus, was managing the floor for the Democrat majority in the House and, according to the senior GOP aide who was present, joined in with everyone else, including all the Democrats, Republicans, and staff present in standing to honor the Americans killed by illegal aliens.

“These are just 50 names of Americans whose lives have been lost to illegal immigration,” McCarthy said after he finished reading their names. “They no longer have their voice. But we can and must be their voice today.”

McCarthy also read off the names of various so-called DREAMers whom he says should be upset because the Democrats have refused to make a deal with President Trump–and then he rounded out his speech saying that he implores Congress to consider the impact that its refusal to solve the problem once and for all has on all Americans and the broad effect that congressional inaction causes.

“Mr. Speaker as this House adjourns for the week today — after just one rule bill — I implore my colleagues to take some time and think deeply about these individuals, their families, and what our country stands for,” McCarthy said. “It certainly isn’t this political stunt by this majority and it certainly isn’t the status quo they are so proud to protect. As members of the U.S. House of Representatives we are a very small group with a very large responsibility. The burden on us 435 Americans is to represent 325 million Americans faithfully. To work together so that tomorrow is better than today. Let us not let these political distractions get in the way of our duty. Instead – lets actually get to work.

In the present showdown with Democrats, Trump laid out his case for a border wall whereas the two vulture-looking Democrats, significantly, did not address his main point: that the wall would keep out drugs and illegal aliens who committed crimes. The media, vigorously attacked Trump’s speech—evenbefore he delivered it (Jonathan Karl at CBS almost threw a tantrum prior). Since then, the hive-mind of MSM journalists have avoided the central issue of crime and have instead focused at length on bureaucrats’ paychecks and ignored crimes by illegal aliens.

There is a game that philosophers like to toss back and forth: if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, has it made a sound? The mainstream media (MSM), both in the USA and abroad, has the firm belief that if an event is not reported (as news) then it didn’t happen and no one is the wiser. Dictatorships adhere to this principle.

A study in Arizona showed that illegals commit twice more crimes than other residents, as does a nationwide study. So, if anyone insists that illegals don’t commit crimes, then submit the following— which are only a tiny fraction of crimes committed.

• Gustavo Garcia, a previously deported alien murdered a 51-year-old American.
• Franco Cambrany Francisco-Eduardo killed the son of a fire department captain.
• Joel Valera, a deported illegal alien, committed a sex crime, carried out domestic violence and shot and killed 40-year-old Arthur Gomez Jr.
• Jose Ramirez-Valesco an illegal alien from Mexico, raped a 16-year-old girl.

CNN commentator Symone Sanders and Rekha Basu, independent of each other, blamed the killing on “toxic masculinity.” Well, the parents also didn’t think that illegal immigrants were the problem. In fact, the mother afterwards invited anillegal immigrant to live with her.
• Jose Alfonso Rodriguez-Garcia was deported ten times and during that time, he committed theft, possession/sale of drugs, auto theft, and rape. Although he does not belong to MS-13, surely he qualifies for Pelosi’s “spark of divinity.”
• In Oregon, Eduardo de la Lima Vargas, drunk while driving, killed a couple, thereby orphaning their four children.
• In San Francisco, five times deported Jose Ines Garcia Zarate shot and killed Kate Steinle. California is a “sanctuary state.” Incredibly Zarate was not convicted in San Francisco. He subsequently sued Trump for saying bad things about the murderer. And when UC-SD Republicans put fliers in campus on Steinle, UC-SD College Democrats published a statement on their Facebook page condemning what they described as “racist propaganda” while at UC Berkeley, leftists vandalized posters announcing a vigil for Steinle.
• In Tucson, two Ethiopians were arrested for fraud when it was found that they had ties to the terrorist organization Al-Shabab.
• In Texas, illegal immigrant Ramon Pedro was apprehended with his “daughter” whom he had been raping.
• In Ft. Myers, Florida, an illegal immigrant from Haiti shot and killed an officer.
• Daniel Hernandez Del Angel, has been illegally living in the country for the last 22 years, and raped a 7-year-old and her mother. He has a spark of divinity, too.

• In Massachusetts, a little girl was burned and disfigured in a voodoo ritual by her Haitian mother.

• You know how, according to the MSM propaganda, those wonderful DACAsare future Nobel Prizewinners and Medal of Honor recipients? • Francis Hernandez had been arrested 16 times in 5 years without ever being turned over to immigration authorities. Later, “in his search for a better life,” while driving 81 miles an hour, he killed two women and a 3-year-old child.
• 16-year-old Kayla Cuevas and 15-year-old Nisa Mickens were butchered by MS-13 members who possessed “a spark of divine genius.”
• Police officer Ronil Singh (a LEGAL immigrant) was murdered by Gustavo Perez Arriaga, an illegal alien living in California.
• Galtsog Gantulga, a Mongolian DACA, had two DWIs, one of which was a hit and run.

• In Wheaton, MD., Felix Silva-Zuniga, an illegal immigrant paid MS-13 members (and illegal aliens) to have sex with a minor that they were pimping out.
• In the Portland People’s Republic of Antifa, Oregon, Santiago Flores-Martinez a previously deported illegal immigrant from Mexico, raped a 9-year-old little girl. Antifa will no doubt be protesting his arrest.
• San Antonio college student Jared Vargas was murdered by illegal Ernesto Esquivel-Garcia, who had been previously arrested and released with a request for him to voluntarily deport himself.
• Wilfredo Perez-Aguilar is a Guatemalan illegal immigrant who was sentenced and deported for raping a 12-year-old and was recently caught trying to reenter the United States. If ICE had been abolished as so many liberals want it to be, he would be already inside the country.
• Jose Manuel Tiscareno Hernandez, an illegal alien from Mexico, raped an 11-year-old child.
• Border Patrol agents arrested a DACA recipient for smuggling more than 17 pounds of methamphetamine.
• An unnamed illegal immigrant from Mexico has been deported 44 times.
• A drunken Jose Martin Duran Romero plowed his vehicle into an ambulance, killing a toddler inside and injuring the mother. And, yes, he was an illegal immigrant.
• An illegal immigrant from Haiti assaulted some men, stole property from a car and shot a police officer.
• A drunken Esteysi Sanchez drove a car and killed a man.
• In Alabama, Antonio Corince, a 29-year-old illegal alien, admitted to sexually abusing a child.
• Gerardo Valerio-Romero, an illegal alien from Mexico, sexually abused an eight-year-old, a relative. While in custody of Utah County, he was diagnosed with cancer and began receiving treatment costing American taxpayers $1 million.
• Twitter banned the Center for Immigration Studies from using the term “illegal immigrants” as “hate speech.”
• Gustavo Araujo Lerma and his wife Maria Eva Velez were charged with aggravated identity theft, passport fraud, conspiracy to commit unlawful procurement of naturalization and citizenship, and five counts of voting by an alien.
• The Public Interest Legal Foundation has determined that there were numerous illegal aliens who illegally voted in Virginia elections. 
• Joel Arrona Lara was detained by ICE while driving his pregnant wife to the hospital, whereupon the MSM hive-mind instantly proclaimed him nationally and loudly as a victim and martyr to Trump’s cruel policy. In a turn of events, the illegal immigrant was wanted for murder in Mexico, rather than having committed a murder in the US (at least, not yet). His wife’s hospital bill was paid by taxpayers. • Several cities in Maryland allow illegal aliens to vote illegally in elections, even though it is illegal.
• Illegal aliens have boasted of helping Democrats in elections.
• The DOJ announced the arrest of dozens of illegal aliens who voted illegally. A drop in the bucket.
• Hundreds of illegal aliens were discovered (after the fact) of having voted illegally in North Carolina.
• An investigation by the Fresno Bee has revealed that in order to prevent deportation of illegal aliens convicted of sex crimes, the California government has to put them in mental health facilities.
• Carlos Isaias-Aponte, aka Santo Ramirez-Ferman, aka Francisco Ocasio,aka Luis A. Camacho, was a heroin trafficker, an identity thief, and a welfare fraudster from the Dominican Republic and, of course, an illegal alien. 
• The city of San Francisco deliberately spent $385,000 to register non-citizen voters.
• Because she wasn’t doing a good job being a prostitute, three illegal alien MS-13 gang members, exhibiting that “spark of divinity,” beat a 15-year-old half to death with baseball bats.
• In Santa Rosa, California, Eulalio Miniz Orozco was captured on video stabbing a fellow diner, a 61-year-old man. Orozco had been deported seven times and had a long criminal record. 
• Daniel Enrique Fabian, an illegal alien from Peru, who was brought over as a baby, was using the PlayStation, then took a break to rape a girl in his house, his second victim. He left the game microphone on during the rape and so was arrested.
• Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes, a Mexican citizen who repeatedly entered the U.S. illegally, killed an officer.
• According to a report, 62% of illegal aliens are on welfare.
• An illegal alien Muslim committed welfare fraud and theft. His wife and daughter yelled “Fuck America!” at cameras.
• Three MS-13 gang members were caught by border patrol agents, sneaking into the US, as part of the 2018 caravan.
• An illegal identity theft ring was busted in California, run by illegal immigrants from Central America. Andres Avelino Anduaga, an illegal alien from Mexico was one such individual, with an extensive criminal record, having taken $361,000 in benefits.
• In Kansas, Victor David Garcia Bebek, a Peruvian national voted in 2012 and 2014. Other instances of voter fraud by illegal immigrants can be found here.
• An illegal alien from Tunisia, a Muslim, was jailed for weapons possession charges, among others.
• Ivan Zamarripa-Castaneda, an illegal alien, was allowed to bond out of jail following a deadly hit-and-run accident before ICE could seize him.
• Nathan Valdez who came illegally to this country from Mexico as a baby grew up to murder a man.
• If convicted in Nevada, illegal immigrant Wilbur Ernesto Martinez Guzman would be the youngest serial criminal in this country, targeting old people.
• 7 times deported Nemias Garcia-Velasco from Mexico, driving 100mph, killed someone.
• Previously deported Victor Francisco Michel-Lara from Mexico raped a 7-year-old multiple times (it should be remembered that Trump was repeatedly criticized for saying that illegal Mexicans coming over were rapists).

Incidentally, it would be a mistake to think that other minorities welcome illegal immigrants with open arms. Quite the contrary. Although leftists give the impression that all minorities support illegal immigration, this is a delusion. Many blacks and Hispanics want them out of their neighborhoods and out of their cities. Even legal immigrants want them gone and complain that the media ignores them.

Illegal immigrants are, of course, being protected and sanitized by liberals in various ways while deliberately ignoring inconvenient facts, such as that 70%“asylum seekers” don’t bother to show up to court). Amazon’s Jeff Bezos set aside $33 million for scholarships for illegals (nothing for Americans, or legal immigrants) with New York State allocating $27 million, while Los Angeles has legalized street vendors for illegal immigrants’ benefit and Denver legalized public defecating in the streets for their benefit.

Meanwhile, mass deportations  and border patrols have proven to curtail criminal gang activity. But the media doesn’t report it. They’re pushing the mantra that the issue is Trump’s “fake crisis.”

The tree has fallen in the forest and many people have heard it.

Timing is everything. Congress is currently in the midst of debating the construction of a "border wall" or “border barrier” to protect the dangerous U.S./Mexican border as the clock ticks down to another possible partial shutdown of our government if an agreement cannot be reached.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 the Senate Intelligence Committee conducted a hearing on Worldwide Threats that was predicated on a just-released paper, "World-Wide Threat Assessment," that was issued by Daniel Coats, the Director of the Office of National Intelligence, which oversees the U.S. intelligence community.

As we will see, elements of that report addressed issues that have a clear nexus to border security and immigration law enforcement.

However, the leaders of the Democratic Party have thus far made it clear that they will oppose any and all efforts to construct a barrier to block the uninspected entry of aliens and cargo into the United States while simultaneously claiming that they don't oppose border security -- even as some Democrats call for disbanding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

While the Democratic Party leaders claim that a wall or barrier on the southern border is a waste of money and find all sorts of other absurd excuses to oppose it, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi outrageously and infamously claiming that any such structure would be “immoral,” the leaders of the U.S. Border Patrol as well as the leaders of the Border Patrol Council, the union that represents our valiant Border Patrol agents, have publicly and repeatedly stated that a wall or barrier is essential to help them to secure our nation’s borders.

Clearly the Democrats have no interest in actually securing our borders or in the enforcement of our immigration laws.

Now we come to that hearing conducted by the Senate Intelligence Committee and the report that served as the predication for that hearing.

Inasmuch as the report contains material furnished by all of the elements of the U.S. Intelligence Community, the leaders of these agencies were witnesses at the hearing.

TRANSNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIME

Global transnational criminal organizations and networks will threaten US interests and allies by trafficking drugs, exerting malign influence in weak states, threatening critical infrastructure, orchestrating human trafficking, and undermining legitimate economic activity.

Drug Trafficking

The foreign drug threat will pose continued risks to US public health and safety and will present a range of threats to US national security interests in the coming year. Violent Mexican traffickers, such as members of the Sinaloa Cartel and New Generation Jalisco Cartel, remain key to the movement of illicit drugs to the United States, including heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cannabis from Mexico, as well as cocaine from Colombia. Chinese synthetic drug suppliers dominate US-bound movements of so- called designer drugs, including synthetic marijuana, and probably ship the majority of US fentanyl, when adjusted for purity.

Approximately 70,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2017, a record high and a 10-percent increase from 2016, although the rate of growth probably slowed in early 2018, based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data.

Increased drug fatalities are largely a consequence of surging production of the synthetic opioid fentanyl; in 2017, more than 28,000 Americans died from synthetic opioids other than methadone, including illicitly manufactured fentanyl. The CDC reports synthetic opioid- related deaths rose 846 percent between 2010 and 2017, while DHS reports that US seizures of the drug increased 313 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Other Organized Crime Activities

Transnational criminal organizations and their affiliates are likely to expand their influence over some weak states, collaborate with US adversaries, and possibly threaten critical infrastructure.

Mexican criminals use bribery, intimidation, and violence to protect their drug trafficking, kidnapping-for-ransom, fuel-theft, gunrunning, extortion, and alien-smuggling enterprises.

Gangs based in Central America, such as MS-13, continue to direct some criminal activities beyond the region, including in the United States.

Transnational organized crime almost certainly will continue to inflict human suffering, deplete natural resources, degrade fragile ecosystems, drive migration, and drain income from the productive—and taxable—economy.

Human trafficking generates an estimated $150 billion annually for illicit actors and governments that engage in forced labor, according to the UN’s International Labor Organization.

This is not the first report or the first hearing to provide clear evidence that the porous U.S./Mexico border creates national security, public safety, and public health vulnerabilities for Americans.

I have written a number of articles about this issue; one of my recent articles took on the bogus claim that technology is better than a wall: "Why Trump’s Wall Is A Must" - And why a “virtual fence” will stop no one.

My May 11, 2018 article, "Congressional Hearing: Iranian Sleeper Cells Threaten U.S.," was predicated on a hearing conducted by the House Homeland Security Committee.

A failure to stop the flow of illegal alien workers also undermines the U.S. economy, and costs American and lawful immigrant workers jobs and suppresses their wages. That fundamental fact was the basis for my commentary, "OPEN BORDERS FACILITATE AMERICA’S RACE TO THE BOTTOM" - “Cheap labor” is anything but cheap.

As I have noted ever so many times in my articles and in my Congressional testimony, simply securing the problematic border against the illegal (uninspected) entry of aliens won’t end the immigration crisis but would close one of the major holes in what I have come to refer to as the Immigration Colander. I have come to conceptualize the wall on the U.S./Mexican border as the equivalent of a wing on an airplane. Without a wing the airplane will not fly, but the wing by itself would go nowhere.

The immigration system has never had a meaningful program to enforce the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States. The need to enforce the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States is commonsense and was noted as an important issue by the 9/11 Commission. The dirty secret is that our political leaders understand just how important interior enforcement is but have intentionally never provided the resources to enforce those laws from within the interior. Consider that, in the wake of the terror attacks of 9/11 President George W. Bush created the Department of Homeland Security (DHS ) and in so doing, broke the former Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) into multiple components that then blended immigration with other agencies such as Customs.

However, while the leadership of neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have been willing to take the necessary measures to finally save the immigration crisis through effective but fair law enforcement, unhinged members of the Democratic Party are now calling for dismantling ICE altogether. They are calling for immigration anarchy even as yet another hearing, involving the leaders of the U.S. intelligence community, are clear about the nexus between threats confronting America and border security and immigration law enforcement.

Meanwhile cities and states that are controlled by the Democrats have created “Sanctuary Cities” and “Sanctuary States” that shield illegal aliens from detection from ICE including criminals, members of transnational gangs and drug trafficking organizations. These jurisdictions also shield international fugitives and terrorists and, in shielding aliens who were smuggled into the United States, protect the human traffickers who smuggled them here.

If these politicians were really concerned about the plight of trafficked aliens, they could cooperate with ICE and make certain that ICE provides these aliens with visas that are available for aliens who cooperate with investigations into human trafficking and major crimes.

As we have seen with the trial of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, New York City -- the American city with the largest, best-trained and -equipped police department in the United States -- became the hub for the Mexican Sinaloa Drug Cartel that purportedly moved hundreds of tons of drugs including heroin, cocaine, meth, fentanyl, and marijuana into the U.S. across the Mexican border.

The only rational reason that NYC would have been selected as the hub, given the nature and reputation of the NYPD is the fact that NYC is a “Sanctuary City.” This was the focus of my article, "NEW YORK CITY: HUB FOR THE DEADLY DRUG TRADE" - “Sanctuary” policies attract foreign drug traffickers, fugitives and terrorists.

Economists had expected claims to rise to 220,000 in the week ended January 26 from the originally reported 199,000 the previous week. This is the highest level for initial claims since September 30, 2017 when it was 254,000, the Labor Department said. The previous week was revised up by 1,000 to 200,000. Jobless claims can be quite volatile week to week. The 4-week moving average, which smooths out weekly volatility, is considered a more reliable metric for the health of the labor market. This rose by 5,000 to  220,250. Unemployment claims are a proxy for layoffs. They have been closely watched over the past year for signals of how the tariffs and the trade dispute with China might be affecting U.S. jobs. So far, the data show no signs that tariffs are costing American workers jobs. In addition, jobless claims have become a focus for those looking for signs the government shutdown may have hurt the labor market. Federal workers who were locked out of their jobs during the shutdown were eligible to claim unemployment benefits, as were private sector employees of many government contractors who stopped worked during the shutdown. Jobless claims by Federal workers get reported with a delay. Claims by federal workers totaled 14,739 in the week ending January 19, a decrease of 10,680 from the prior week. There were 40,112 federal workers filing for unemployment benefits for the week ending January 12, an increase of 15,431 from the previous week. The Federal Reserve announced it was pausing interest rate hikes after its January 29-30 meeting. The Fed hiked rates four times last year and had earlier forecast more hikes for 2019. Now it appears the Fed might not hike at all this year. The futures market indicates that there is a significant chance the Fed will cut rates in 2020 rather than raise them further. Despite backing off plans to hike rates, the Fed described the jobs market as a “strong” in its statement and noted that unemployment remains very low. Nonetheless, inflation remains very low and data suggests price pressure has eased in recent months. Democrats, who now control the House, called Pentagon officials in to testify on President Trump’s order of active duty troops to the border in October, which they have called a political stunt by the White House before midterm election. But defense officials testified that it was the Pentagon — not the White House — decided that active duty troops were able to deploy faster and were better resourced to deal with the caravans headed to the border than National Guard and reserve forces. “That was a decision made inside the Department,” said Navy Adm. Michael Gilday, the director for operations of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Democrat lawmakers also questioned whether there was a crisis that necessitated the deployment of troops, when the number of illegal immigrants coming across the border have been higher in previous years. “The difference is really the caravans and really the nature of the asylum seekers,” Rood said. Ranking Member Mac Thornberry (R-TX) agreed. “One of the things that changed is that now we have thousands, and tens of thousands of migrants who are coming in caravans which we have not seen before,” he said. “The days when we had a greater number of people — but most of them were from Mexico, and you could simply put them back across the border — are very different from these large family groups, 10, 12,000 people coming. So yes, it changed the requirements,” he added. “We have 42 percent increase in the number of family units. We have 60,000 unaccompanied children that were caught last year,” Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) added. “I’m a former teacher and a mom, this is a humanitarian crisis.” Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) noted that administrations have been sending active duty troops to the U.S. border with Mexico “since Alamo.” “I’m just astounded by the fact that we continue to act stupid in Congress and fuss over things like $5.7 billion in fencing, and it cost us $11 billion dollars to shut the government down,” he said. According to Rood, the projected costs for the active duty deployments by the end of January is $132 million. He said the costs for the National Guard deployment for 2018 and 2019 to amount to $550 million. But Rood said that even with the troop deployments, illegal immigrants were still coming across the border. “Just in the last three months alone, CBP reports apprehending 145,000 illegal immigrants,” Rood said. He said last year, there were more than 521,000 apprehensions by law enforcement, with a larger amount of people not apprehended. He said that was up from 415,000 the year before. “In the last two years alone, a larger number than the population of Washington, D.C. have been apprehended, or a city the size of San Francisco, apprehensions in two years,” he said. Reps. Hartzler and Mo Brooks (R-AL) noted that there is existing authority the administration could use to have the military build a border barrier without declaring a national emergency, through Section 284 of Title 10 of the United States Code. “Congress has actually given the DOD the ability to provide military support to law enforcement agencies specifically for countering the counter-drug purposes. Section 284 of Title 10 of the United States Code authorizes the DOD to provide support to counter drug activities to control the transnational organized crime,” she said. “The law clearly identifies various activities that DOD is authorized to conduct including the construction of road and construction of fences. Light installation along smuggling corridors, aerial, ground reconnaissance and transportation,” she said. Rood responded that Hartzler was correct. “As you correctly point out, Section 284 of Title 10 does provide the secretary of defense the authority in performance of that counter drug mission such as blocking drug smuggling corridors to erect barriers, fencing, provide road construction things of that nature to aid in that counternarcotics mission,” he said. “We have already given the authority to do this and we have a very critical mission to keep people safe and make sure that people don’t die as a result of these transnational drug cartel activity and currently they are. So it’s imperative for us to find a solution, and I’m very hopeful that in the next three weeks we can come together in a bipartisan fashion,” Hartzler added. The alleged seizures resulted in the arrest of a Mexican national and a U.S. citizen on drug smuggling charges. In the first seizure this past Saturday, agents assigned to the Indio Station in the El Centro Sector contacted a male driver in a 1997 Ford F-250 at a designated immigration checkpoint on Highway 86 at 8:50 am. Agents referred the male, identified as Rene Elizalde, a 22-year-old U.S. citizen, to a secondary inspection after a K-9 alerted to an odor, according to Border Patrol officials. The K-9 pointed to the driver’s side of the vehicle and agents utilized a fiber-scope camera to inspect the two gas tanks. In one, agents noted that the liquid did not have the appearance or characteristics of gasoline. Agents then tested the substance and discovered it was methamphetamine. The liquid methamphetamine had a total weight of 75 pounds with an estimated street value of $198,750. “Liquid methamphetamine is an extremely dangerous form of the narcotic and thankfully our agents were able to prevent it from advancing further into the United States,” saidChief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Breitbart TV Wives Of Border Patrol Officers Look Directly Into Camera, Issue Massive Challenge To Pelosi Elizalde, along with the reportedly seized drugs, was handed over to the custody of the Drug Enforcement Administration for a review of criminal charges. In the second seizure this past Sunday, agents assigned to the Indio Station in the El Centro Sector contacted a 35-year-old driver in a brown 2015 Renault Duster Expression at 3:30 pm. Agents referred the driver, who was determined to be a 35-year-old Mexican national, to a secondary inspection, according to the Border Patrol. Agents discovered 61 individually wrapped packages concealed within an aftermarket floor compartment underneath the driver and passenger seats. A total of 56 of 61 packages reportedly tested positive for methamphetamine. The other five contained cocaine. The packages containing methamphetamine weighed 109.65 pounds and had an estimated street value of $284,856. The five packages of cocaine weighed 13.12 pounds, valued at $170,560. The driver was turned over to the DEA for processing, according to a news release. Of those arrested, 107 were convicted criminals or facing charges, and 55 failed to leave the country after a final order of removal or were previously removed and returned to the U.S. ERO New York field office director Thomas R. Decker said of the enforcement: In spite of the significant obstacles that ICE faces due to the dangerous policies created by local jurisdictions, which hinders the cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement, ICE will continue to devote the full efforts of our agency to protecting citizens and enforcing federal immigration law despite challenges being pursued by politically motivated individuals. ICE named 14 of those foreign nationals arrested, six of which had sexual offense convictions or pending charges. “More than 35 individuals arrested during this operation were previously released from local law enforcement on an active detainer,” according to an ICE detailing of the enforcement action. Economists had expected a milder decline to 124.3. Despite the government shutdown, consumers’ view of current conditions was little changed. The percentage of consumers claiming business conditions are “good” was virtually unchanged at 37.4 percent, while those saying business conditions are “bad” actually fell from 11.6 percent to 11.1 percent. But optimism about the future turned much more pessimistic in January, the third consecutive monthly steep decline in expectations. The percentage of consumers expecting business conditions will improve over the next six months fell from 18.1 percent to 16.0 percent, while those expecting business conditions will worsen increased from 10.6 percent to 14.8 percent. Consumers’ assessment of labor market conditions was mixed. Those stating jobs are “plentiful” increased from 45.5 percent to 46.6 percent, while those claiming jobs are “hard to get” also increased, from 12.2 percent to 12.9 percent.  But the outlook was less favorable. The share expecting more jobs in the months ahead decreased from 16.6 percent to 14.7 percent, while those anticipating fewer jobs increased, from 14.6 percent to 16.5 percent. And fewer consumers expect their incomes to improve in the near-term future.  The share expecting an improvement declined from 22.4 percent to 18.2 percent, while the proportion expecting a decrease also declined, from 7.6 percent to 7.1 percent. Although consumer confidence has declined in recent months, it remains at a very high level. The OPT program was created by officials working for former President George W. Bush, and it allows foreign graduates of U.S. universities to work up to three years in the United States. The process creates a huge incentive for people who arrange fake or near-fake university courses to get work permits for cheap white-collar migrants. The OPT program is defended by universities, technology companies, and investors who benefit from the inflow of fee-paying students or cheap workers. In 2017, 291,635 foreigners were given one-year OPT work permits, and another 60,410 were given three-year OPT work permits. In the two prior years, 67,000 people were given three-year OPT permits. OPT workers are hired by brand name companies, including Amazon, Intel, and Microsoft. Many also transfer into the H-1B program and some are approved for green cards. Overall, the OPT program keeps roughly 400,000 foreign graduates in U.S. jobs that do not need to be advertised to U.S. graduates. Overall, the various visa programs, including the OPT, CPT, H-1B, TN, O-1, E-3, and J-1 programs, allow U.S. employers to keep a cheap workforce of roughly 1.5 million, non-immigrant, cheap guest workers in white-collar jobs. The visa programs help flood the white-collar job market and are an economic threat to the tens of millions of college graduate Americans who vote in elections. So the OPT program is a political problem for Trump, partly because he needs to grow his weak support among suburban college-educated voters.
