Homeless Surge Hits Oakland, Silicon Valley, San Francisco Suburbs

San Francisco saw its homeless population rise by 17% in the last two years, but the rise in many surrounding counties has been worse.
A report Monday by Curbed San Francisco summarizing the figures noted: “Five out of nine Bay Area Counties—i.e., all of those not located in the North Bay—saw their homeless counts spike during the same period, with each other county showing worse homelessness surges than SF.”
As Breitbart News has noted, homelessness has been rising rapidly in urban areas throughout the state. San Francisco’s rise in homelessness has been accompanied by a spike in Los Angeles that some say has brought the city to the brink of an outbreak of deadly disease — perhaps bubonic plague. San Diego recently suffered an outbreak of hepatitis A among the homeless, partly due to a plastic bag ban making it harder for homeless people living on the streets to dispose of excrement.
Now the problem is leaving downtown areas and hitting the suburbs. Curbed reports:
- San Mateo County: rise of more than 20% in two years
- Santa Clara County: rise of more than 31% in two years
- Alameda County: rise of more than 42.5% in two years
- Contra Costa County: rise of 42.8% in two years
In addition, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday that homelessness in the City of Oakland alone rose 47% over the past two years.
The Curbed report adds some “good news”: ‘While the rest of the Bay Area saw the levees break, homelessness actually declined significantly all over the North Bay during the same period.”
President Donald Trump has warned that federal intervention may be necessary to deal with the problem — a suggestion that has met with protest from the state’s Democratic leaders.

Older People, the Poor and the Middle Class…. BUT THEY SURE HELP THE

Partisan, age gaps
in views of government help for younger people
Majorities
of Americans say the federal government does not provide enough help for older
people (65%), poor people (62%) and the middle class (61%). By contrast, nearly
two-thirds (64%) say the government provides too much help for wealthy people.
The
national survey by Pew Research Center, conducted Jan. 10-15 among 1,503
adults, finds that views on government help for the poor, the middle class and
the wealthy – as well as for older people – have changed little in recent
years. This is the first time this series has included a question about younger
people.
There
are partisan differences in views of government support for all groups included
in the survey. However, the gap is somewhat narrower in views of government
help for older people than for other groups. While 73% of Democrats and
Democratic-leaning independents say the federal government does not do enough
for older people, a smaller majority of Republicans (58%) say the same.
The
partisan gap is much wider in views of government help for younger people.
Nearly seven-in-ten Democrats (69%) say the federal government does not provide
enough help for younger people. Republicans are divided: Nearly equal shares
say the government does too little (29%) and too much (27%) for younger people,
while 36% say it provides about the right amount of help.
In
addition, there are sizable age differences in views of government help for
younger people – but not in how much the government does for older people. A
majority of those younger than 50 (58%) say the government does not do enough
for younger people, compared with 44% of those 50 and older. Nearly identical
shares of those under 50 (65%) and those 50 and older (66%) say the federal
government does not do enough for older people.
Views of government help for poor, wealthy, middle class
The
partisan divide in views of government aid for the poor is wider than for other
groups. Fully 82% of Democrats say the federal government does not provide
enough help for poor people, compared with just 36% of Republicans. About as
many Republicans say the government does too much for the poor (33%) as say it
does too little; 27% say the help the government provides is about right.
Pew
Research Center’s recent report on the public’s political values found that
partisan differences in attitudes about aid to the poor and needy have widened
considerably over the past two decades. In that study, 71% of Democrats said the government should
do more to help the needy even if it meant going deeper in debt, compared with
24% of Republicans.
Democrats
and Republicans also differ in their attitudes about the help the government
provides to wealthy people. A large majority of Democrats (77%) say the federal
government provides too much help to the wealthy. As with views about
government help to the poor, Republicans are divided. Nearly half of
Republicans (46%) say the federal government provides too much help for wealthy
people, 42% say it provides about the right amount, while 6% say it does not
provide enough help.
Partisan
differences in opinions about the federal government’s help for the middle
class are not as pronounced. Seven-in-ten Democrats say the government does not
provide enough help for the middle class, compared with about half of
Republicans (51%).
Republican
attitudes about government help to the poor, middle class and wealthy differ
significantly by family income. Democratic opinions vary much less across
income levels.
Nearly
half of Republicans with incomes under $40,000 (47%) say that the government
does not provide enough assistance for poor people. This is considerably higher
than those who make between $40,000 and $75,000 or $75,000 or more; only about
three-in-ten in these income brackets say that poor people do not receive
enough assistance (32% and 28%, respectively).
A
similar pattern is seen on opinions about government help for the middle class.
A majority (59%) of lower-income Republicans say the middle class does not receive
enough help. That compares with about half of Republicans with higher family
incomes.
And
while 58% of Republicans with incomes of less than $40,000 say the government
provides too much help to wealthy people, only about four-in-ten (41%) of those
with incomes of $40,000 or more say the same.
Large majorities of Democrats across income categories say the
federal government does not provide enough help for the poor and middle class,
and that it provides too much help for the wealthy.
Drug
Rehab Centers are Fueling Homeless Epidemic in California

Drug rehabilitation or “rehab” centers are increasingly being seen
as a contributing factor in the homeless epidemic that has swept across
the Golden State.
“There’s
evidence to suggest a portion of the growth [of homelessness] in some Orange
County cities, and to a lesser degree in Los Angeles, can be attributed to the
rehab industry’s aggressive recruitment of addicts – and their lucrative
insurance payments – from around the country,” the Orange
County Register noted in a recent article.
The issue rests in the fact that the drug rehab centers’
business models actually wind up leaving addicts stranded on the streets. The
rehab model is also highly lucrative, bringing in hundreds of thousands to
millions of dollars per year.
Often, once a patient’s insurance money runs out, rehab homes
and facilities will kick him or her out on the street, which results in
relapse and, often, homelessness.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, over 60
percent of people who receive drug rehabilitation will relapse. Many of
these individuals wind up homeless.
The National
Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency estimates that over 23 million Americans (age 12 and older) are
addicted to alcohol and other drugs. According to the Substance Abuse and
Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), just under 11% (2.5
million)
received care at an addiction treatment facility in 2012. SAMHSA also estimates
that the market for addiction treatment is about $35 billion per year.
According to Los Angeles County’s annual homeless count, the
region’s homeless population has grown 23 percent since 2016. The study
also found that the number of homeless people in L.A. County whose last
residence was out of state increased by 21 percent.
The Register points out that in
Florida, there is a strong link between rehab and drug-treatment facilities and
homelessness, and particularly in Palm Beach County, where government
counts reportedly found a 73 percent increase over the past two years in the
number of homeless youth between the ages of 18 and 24.
“The (rehab
patients) are not going back home to the Northeast,” Palm Beach County State
Attorney Dave Aronberg, who leads the county’s Sober Home Task Force, told
the Register. “The
incentives are too great to remain here: the free rent, the free
transportation, the lifestyle. They’ve set up these individuals for failure.”

Homeless man found
dead in donation bin in San Diego, California

A man was found dead in a bin used for
clothing donations in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego, California
last Friday. Police were called to the scene around 7:15 a.m., a few blocks
away from the San Diego Police Department’s (SDPD) Multi-Cultural Community
Relations building.
Authorities say the man was in his 40s
and appeared to be homeless. Foul play was not suspected in his death and it is
unclear how long he was stuck in the bin before he died. The man may have been
trying to get warm clothing before he suffocated to death.
The man’s name has not been released,
but local news media spoke with a woman at the scene who say the man was a
friend of those who lived in a nearby homeless encampment.
The donation bin where the man was
discovered was marked “Clothing & Shoes” and was located in a shopping
center parking lot one block away from the San Diego Rescue Mission, a homeless
shelter.
The number of homeless deaths has
increased significantly over the last several years in the city. At least 117 homeless
people died on the streets of San Diego last year, according to the San Diego
Rescue Mission. That number does not include those lost to the Hepatitis A
outbreak, which killed 20, mostly homeless individuals. The year before there
were 90 deaths on the streets of America’s “finest city,” and in 2014 there 56
deaths.
Some of last year’s casualties included
a 21-year-old who overdosed on heroin and a 62-year-old who died from an
accident that caused blunt force injuries to his head. Of the 117 deaths
listed, 26 were in their 60s.
San Diego has the fourth largest
homeless population in the United States, with an estimated 9,160 people
homeless on any given night, according to a report by the Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD). Only New York City, Los Angeles County and
Seattle/ King County in Washington had larger homeless populations.
During a one-night count in January, the
number of homeless actually increased by 0.7 percent to 553,742 people over the
previous year. This marks the first year-over-year increase in the national
homeless population since 2010. In California, the number increased by 13.7
percent to 134,278, which means out of every 10,000 Californians, 34 are
homeless. In San Diego, the number increased by 5 percent.
Homelessness has largely increased due
to the lack of affordable housing and little or no government assistance to
prevent people from sliding into poverty. Especially on the West Coast, where
rent rises faster than the average paycheck, those who face the prospect of
losing shelter have little or no recourse than staying with friends or in
vehicles, or on the streets.
While nationwide, the number of homeless
living unsheltered in tents, cars and on the street is 35 percent, in San Diego
the number is 61.6 percent. Statewide, California has the highest rate of
unsheltered homeless in the US with 68.2 percent of the homeless population
unsheltered.
RVs Become Only Housing Option
for Many in Unaffordable San Francisco
Housing prices and the homeless epidemic in Northern California are two
factors that have contributed to what is being described as a “crisis” in which
trailers and recreational vehicles (RVs) have become the only viable option for
residents of the Bay Area.
“We’ve never
seen it like this,” Tom Myers, executive director of Community Services Agency
of Mountain View, told the San Jose Mercury News. “We have to be prepared
that this will be the new normal for us. It’s a crisis.” According to the
publication, San Francisco averages more than three complaints a day about RV
communities.
“I
have to do whatever I have to do,” Robert Ramirez, 54, who lives on lives on
government assistance and collecting recyclable items, told the Mercury News. He has been living
in his RV for six months. He is currently in San Jose but will likely be asked
to move in a short amount of time.
The
median cost of a two-bedroom apartment is approximately $2,500 in San Jose and
$2,200 in Oakland.
RV
residents, while they do not consider themselves homeless, are reportedly often
included in overall homeless counts. Since 2015, the number of homeless people
has jumped to nearly 40 percent.
The
stretch along South 7th Street in San Jose has become an RV haven for people
who cannot afford the city’s skyrocketing rents.
During
her annual State of the City address last month, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf
called on her constituents to open their doors and residences to the city’s
homeless. “Give up that Airbnb. Fix up that back unit,” Schaff reportedly said.
In
2015, SF Weekly noted: “Although it’s illegal to
inhabit a vehicle in San Francisco between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., police rarely
enforce that law.”

Wages remain
mostly stagnant despite unemployment hitting new lows

As the
nation’s post-recession recovery turned into a long-running economic expansion,
policymakers had hoped wages would start to boom once laid-off workers found
jobs. With workers in shorter supply, policymakers argued, companies would
start offering raises to attract new employees and keep their current ones.
But as the
unemployment rate has dipped to a 17-year-low of 4.1 percent and firms
nationwide struggle to fill vacancies, workers aren’t seeing the pay increases
that were supposed to come with what analysts call the strongest labor market
in two decades.
“People are
finding jobs more quickly and easily,” said Jason Furman, an economics
professor at Harvard University and former Obama administration official.
“They’re more confidently quitting their jobs to find another. Everything with
the way people are behaving is consistent with the strength in the labor
market. But wages just aren’t picking up the way we thought they would.”

Workers’
average hourly earnings grew by 5 cents in November to $26.55 — part of an
overall increase of 2.5 percent since the same period last year, the Bureau of
Labor Statistics reported Friday. That’s a growth rate that lags significantly
behind pre-recession levels, when year-over-year wage increases exceeded 4
percent.
Economists
have struggled to find a single cause for the stubbornly slow pace. Some point
to demographics: Baby boomers are retiring in droves, and the younger workers
replacing them command smaller paychecks. Some suspect that automation may be
eliminating formerly high-paying jobs. Others suspect it’s the result of a
change in what types of employment are available, with growth in low-paying
jobs outpacing more lucrative ones.
The lack of
progress has frustrated policymakers, particularly because the economy is
pulling people back into the labor market who had entirely given up on finding
work in the wake of a devastating recession.
But so far,
the pay bumps have been uneven. In construction, for example, average hourly
pay has shot up 2.9 percent to $29.17 since last November, driven in part by
rebuilding efforts in hurricane-walloped states, such as Texas and Florida.
Information
workers — or those who make a living on the Internet, in publishing and in
telecommunications — saw a 3.4 percent year-over-year raise to $38.59, the same
as employees in the high-paying world of finance.
Leisure and
hospitality workers have gotten a disproportionately large boost, 3.6 percent,
but they still make an average of $15 an hour — less than the other major job
categories.
Wages in
manufacturing, however, appear especially stagnant, growing 1.9 percent since
last November. That’s despite recent job growth in the sector, which Secretary
of Labor Alexander Acosta pointed out Friday has an unemployment rate of 2.6
percent.
“The lowest
ever recorded,” he said in a statement.
President
Trump and Republicans on Capitol Hill have said they hope to pass sweeping changes
to the tax code by the end of December, a move they believe will create more
good-paying jobs and supercharge economic growth. Lowering the corporate tax
rate, the GOP leaders assert, will inspire firms to invest and hire more. And
in a controversial report, a top White House economist claimed the tax plan
would cause workers to see thousands of dollars more per year.
“People are
going to be very excited when they see their paycheck bigger,” White House
economic council director Gary Cohn said about the president’s tax plan during
a Friday interview with Fox Business.
The White
House’s predictions for the economic affects greatly outstrip those of most
mainstream economists.
Many
analysts say it’s difficult to predict how companies would react to a tax cut,
saying many may make moves that have little to do with economic stimulus or
increased salaries. This week, Home Depot announced it would use some of its
surplus billions to buy back shares of its
own stock, a decision that will enrich top executives, and analysts predict
other companies will make similar moves if offered a tax windfall.
“Historically,
when you see tax cuts, there’s been no strong correlation there,” said Scott
Anderson, chief economist at Bank of the West. “In my view, if I’m a CEO and
I’m seeing tax cuts for my organization, I might give those tax cuts back to
shareholders.”
The economy
added 228,000 jobs in November, government economists reported Friday,
maintaining a streak of growth that took off during President Barack Obama’s
first term and kept pace through Trump’s first year in office. Monthly job
gains have averaged out at 174,000 in 2017 and 187,000 in 2016, according to
the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Dan North,
chief economist at Euler Hermes North America, a global credit insurance
company, said the rising demand for workers at firms across the country lately
isn’t enough to significantly increase paychecks.
“Workers
should get a share in that increase,” North said, but “we also have labor
coming back in off the sidelines.”
Productivity
growth remains low, he said, inching up at an average annual rate of 1.2
percent over the last eight years, compared with its historic rate of 2.1
percent from 1974 to 2017, government numbers show.
Plus, the
jobs growing most quickly in the United States offer some of the nation’s
lowest wages. The home health aide industry, paying workers about $22,000 per
year, will produce an estimated 425,600 positions by 2026.
Manufacturing
continued to grow last month, adding 31,000 jobs including 8,000 in machinery,
7,000 in metal products, 4,000 in computer goods and 4,000 in plastic and
rubber wares. That’s on top of 24,000 new manufacturing positions created in
October after no growth in September.
Healthcare
also showed strong expansion, the government data show. Ambulatory health-care
services, which includes doctors’ offices and outpatient recovery centers, saw
an increase of 25,000 jobs. Construction jobs surged by 23,000.
“November’s
jobs report shows steady growth fueled by optimism about the pro-growth,
pro-jobs policies being advanced by President Trump’s Administration,” Acosta
said Friday in his statement. “Since January, the economy has added 1.7 million
jobs.”

The US jobs report for November, released Friday, provides
further evidence that the much vaunted economic “recovery” in the United States
has overwhelmingly benefited Wall Street, whose stock bonanza is based above
all on stagnant wages and the destruction of working-class living standards.
The Labor Department reported that nonfarm payrolls increased
by 228,000 and the jobless rate remained unchanged at 4.1 percent, the lowest
level since January 2000 at the height of the “dot.com” bubble. Manufacturing
payrolls rose by 31,000; construction in the aftermath of the hurricanes in
Texas and Florida added 24,000 jobs. There was also a boost in the low-wage
retail (18,700) and leisure and hospitality (14,000) sectors.
Despite what economists, the media and politicians are
calling “full employment,” average hourly earnings rose only 0.2 percent, or
five cents, to $26.55 an hour, from a downwardly revised 0.1 percent drop in
wages in October. Year-to-year wage increases in November were only 64 cents,
or 2.5 percent. If wages rise by another nickel in December, yearly salaries
will be up a mere 2.4 percent in 2017, barely above the official projected
inflation rate of 2.0 percent.
“President Trump’s bold economic vision continues to pay
off,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders boasted on Friday.
“The economy’s vital signs are stronger than they have been in years,”
the New York Times declared. “Companies are posting jobs
faster than they can find workers to fill them. Incomes are rising. The stock
market sets records seemingly every month.”
Economic analysts have pointed to anemic wage growth,
euphemistically called weak “inflationary pressure,” as a major factor in the
determination of the Federal Reserve to continue pumping up the stock market
with cheap credit. Although most economists expect a modest interest rate hike
at the Fed’s meeting Wednesday, Jerome Powell, President Donald Trump’s nominee
to head the Federal Reserve, made clear last month at his Senate confirmation
hearing that he would keep rates at historically low levels. At the
same time, he assured the senators that there was little danger of a wages push
because of continuing “slackness” in the labor market, i.e., an ample supply of
workers desperate for full-time employment.
Other analysts agree. “Wage growth has been muted thus far,”
especially given the “very healthy pace of job creation,” said Michelle Meyer,
head of US economics at Bank of America. “It’s been the story throughout the
course of this year.”
Describing November’s wage increase as “tepid,” Carl
Riccadonna and Yelena Shulyatyeva of Bloomberg Economics wrote: “Even though
job gains are well in excess of the natural growth rate for the labor market,
labor scarcity is not yet driving wage pressures higher. The moral of the story
from this jobs report is that full employment is indeed much lower in the
current cycle relative to history.”
US employers are exploiting a reserve of unemployed and
underemployed workers to keep wages low. At the same time, corporations are
filling positions with young workers who are paid far lower wages and benefits
than the older workers they are replacing.
According to the government, 6.6 million workers in the US
remain unemployed, including 1.6 million, or nearly one out of four jobless
people, who have been unemployed for 27 weeks or more. Another 4.8 million were
forced to work part-time last month although they want full-time work, and 1.8
million were “marginally attached” to the labor force. The latter want to work
but did not search for employment in the four weeks preceding the survey and
were therefore not counted as “unemployed.”
The labor force participation rate, or share of working-age
people in the labor force, remained at 62.7 percent in November. However, just
79 percent of the prime-age work force, aged 25 to 54, is actually
working—below the rate before the 2008 financial crash.
The situation facing the young generation is particularly
dire. According to the Class of 2017 report
by the Economic Policy Institute, the unemployment rate for young high school
graduates is 16.9 percent (compared with 15.9 percent in 2007 and 12.1 percent
in 2000). For young college graduates, the unemployment rate is currently 5.6
percent (compared with 5.5 percent in 2007 and 4.3 percent in 2000), and 7.1
percent for young male college graduates.
The figures are even higher for “underemployment,” which
includes young graduates who are involuntary part-timers or are only marginally
attached to the labor force. For young high school graduates, the
underemployment rate is 30.9 percent (compared with 26.8 percent in 2007 and
20.8 percent in 2000). For young college graduates, the underemployment rate is
11.9 percent (compared with 9.6 percent in 2007 and 7.1 percent in 2000).
The share of young graduates who are “idled” by the
economy—neither enrolled in further schooling nor employed—remains higher in
the wake of the Great Recession than in 2007 and 2000, the report noted. This
includes 15.1 percent of young high school graduates and 9.9 percent of young
college graduates, many of whom are burdened with unsustainable debts.
The stagnation of wages is a long-term tendency. Since the
early 1970s, hourly inflation-adjusted wages have grown by only 0.2 percent
annually, and labor’s share of national income has fallen from nearly 65
percent in the mid-1970s to below 57 percent in 2017.
The deterioration in the social position of the working class
and accompanying explosion of social inequality are not simply the result of
objective economic laws. They are the intended outcome of the policies of the
American ruling class, implemented by successive Democratic and Republican
administrations alike. The transfer of production to lower-wage countries,
deindustrialization and mass layoffs in the 1980s and 1990s were used as a
hammer to beat back the resistance of workers to a historic lowering of their
living standards.
This process was aided and abetted by the trade unions, whose
pro-capitalist and nationalist orientation left workers without any progressive
response to globalization. Far from opposing wage and benefit cuts, the United
Auto Workers and other unions suppressed working-class opposition and
collaborated with the corporations to slash labor costs in the name of boosting
competitiveness and “protecting American jobs.”
This assault was escalated in the aftermath of the global
financial crisis of 2008. In the course of the eight years of the Obama
administration, the unions limited strikes to the lowest levels since the Labor
Department began recording work stoppages in 1947. They collaborated with the
Democratic president to crush a potential wages push in 2015-16 as workers in
auto, steel, oil, telecom, airlines, rail, health care, retail and other
industries, as well as teachers and other public employees, were coming up for
new labor agreements.
While workers were determined to recoup lost income after
corporate profits had fully recovered from the crash, the unions signed deals
that limited pay hikes to the rate of inflation or barely above it while
shifting health care and pension costs onto the backs of workers. This was key to Obama’s “in-sourcing” strategy for
attracting investment on the basis of low wages, as well as his “quantitative
easing” interest rate policy, which fueled the massive rise in the stock market
that continues to this day. Virtually all of the net increase in new jobs
created under Obama’s “gig economy” were part-time, contingent or
temporary OR ILLEGALS!
Trump claims his $1.5 trillion tax cut—including the slashing
of the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 20 percent—will create more jobs
and increase wages. As in the Obama years, however, this massive windfall for
big business and the rich will not be used to expand production, let alone
increase the wages and living standards of workers. It will go for stock
buybacks and dividend increases, which benefit the richest investors.
Wages are so low now that 7.6 million Americans are forced to
work multiple jobs, a number not seen in 20 years. In a recent article titled
“China-Like Wages Now Part of US Employment Boom,” Forbes noted
that a forklift operator hired at $12.75 an hour at Amazon’s Fall River,
Massachusetts fulfillment center makes $382 for a 30-hour week, “not much more
than the average guy in Beijing,” where the median weekly wage is $329.53. At
40 hours a week, a higher paid, full-time Amazon worker in Fall River earns
$28,800 a year before taxes, roughly what Amazon’s billionaire CEO Jeff Bezos
pockets every minute.
National
Public Radio’s This American
Life promotes anti-immigrant propaganda

On December 8,
National Public Radio (NPR) ran an episode of This American Life titled “Our Town,” which
legitimized workplace raids against immigrants and justified tougher sanctions
for employing undocumented workers.
The program’s
host, Ira Glass, is not a far-right talk show host, but a favorite of affluent
Democrats. His show has 2.2 million listeners.
The episode
titled “Our Town” could very well have been aired on Breitbart Radio. Couched in the language
of nationalist populism, the episode advanced an anti-immigrant agenda by
blaming corporations for giving jobs to immigrants instead of US citizens.
In the
episode, Glass describes Albertville, Alabama, a small town that is home to
poultry processing plants, as having been overrun by immigrants. It “got a
flood of outsiders,” Glass says, using the language of nativists to describe
the influx of Latino workers seeking employment in the poultry plants as
“immigrants pouring in,” “a ton of immigrants” and “tons of Mexican workers.”
Toward the
beginning of the episode, Glass gives airspace to Roy Beck, the founder of
NumbersUSA, which the Southern Poverty Law Center has denounced as part of the
“nativist lobby.” Beck has spoken before the white supremacist Council of
Conservative Citizens and is the protégé of the fascist anti-immigrant advocate
John Tanton. Glass uncritically quotes Beck while introducing him simply as
“the founder of a group called NumbersUSA.”
Glass then
references the massive
“SouthPAW” workplace immigration
raids during which hundreds of agents
descended on small southern towns in
1995 and deported 4,000 workers. PAW stands for “Protecting American Workers.” During the raids, immigration police dragged people out of their workplaces, split them from their families and summarily deported them to violent, war-torn Central American countries.
“The goal was
to create job openings for American workers by arresting lots of people at work
sites,” Glass says. “At the Gold Kist plant outside of town, workers cheered
when [immigration agents] arrived.”
This
reactionary effort to present deportations as “pro-worker” echoes the line of
Bernie Sanders and the trade union bureaucracy. During the Democratic primary
election campaign, in an interview with Vox ’s
Ezra Klein, Sanders attacked open borders and free migration as “a right-wing
proposal, which says essentially there is no United States.” He added, “It
would make everybody in America poorer.”
This American
Life’s producer, Miki Meek, then interviews the immigration agent
responsible for leading the SouthPAW raids, Bart Szafnicki. This American Life uncritically
repeats his claim that the raids did not go far enough.
Meek says:
“Bart pointed out, there’s never been a serious crackdown on employers. These
raids were short-lived. The fines were low. The chances of getting caught were
small. Bart found it frustrating. Congress never had the political will to go
after the companies that hire undocumented workers. There are congressmen who
talk tough on immigration, but when INS went after worksites in their
districts, they told them to back off.”
Meek and Glass
criticize the corporations for being insufficiently tough on hiring immigrants,
citing a 1986 immigration reform law that prohibited companies from
interrogating their employees to discover their nationality.
Glass says these
laws were too lax on employers who hire immigrants: “In 1995, Congress, in a
very practical, bipartisan way that we almost never see any more, decided that
it had to fix the problem and come up with a simple way for employers to tell
who is legal to work in the United States and who isn’t, to figure out who they
could hire… Senator Dianne Feinstein warned, at the time, they had to
solve this crisis now—of immigrants coming in illegally and getting these

But these
efforts, Glass says, did not go far enough. “Obviously, they didn’t solve it.
And here we are today. A bipartisan commission called the Jordan commission
considered a bunch of solutions. One of the things they ended up
proposing was a national computerized system to check people’s IDs, and make
sure they were valid, and their social security numbers are real. This is the
system we’ve come to know as E-Verify.”
The reference
to the Jordan Commission, led by Texas Democratic Representative Barbara
Jordan, is significant. The commission’s findings are well known among
immigrant rights advocates as the wish list of the extreme right. Breitbart praised Jordan
in an August 2017 article as “one of the few Democratic politicians that
believed in a pro-American legal immigration system that ceased on inundating
working class neighborhoods with low-skilled immigrants.” The same article
noted that the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant program, including calls
for expanding E-Verify, “has the same tenets as Jordan’s recommendations.”
The Jordan
commission called for militarizing the border, massively increasing the size of
the border patrol, and blocking immigrants from receiving benefits and work
permits in the US. It is frequently cited by NumbersUSA and white supremacy
groups like the Federation for American Immigration Reform and the Center for
Immigration Studies as a model for mass deportation.
This American
Life criticizes E-Verify as insufficiently strict in stopping
undocumented people from seeking employment. Miki Meek says, “A study
commissioned by the government in 2009 found that over half of undocumented
workers with fake papers—people E-Verify should have caught—got a clean bill of
health… So by the early 2000s, you have all these undocumented workers not
getting caught by E-Verify working in the Albertville plants, which raises the
central question you come to when we talk about immigration—did Americans end
up out of work because of it?”
NPR then gives
space to bureaucrats from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union to air
their dirty xenophobic laundry. One shop steward, Martha, denounces
immigrants for poisoning the atmosphere at the plant:

“In Mexico,
a recent Zogby poll declared that the vast majority of Mexican citizens
hate Americans. [22.2] Mexico is a country saturated with racism, yet in
denial, having never endured the social development of a Civil Rights
movement like in the US--Blacks are harshly treated while foreign Whites are
often seen as the enemy. [22.3] In fact, racism as workplace discrimination
can be seen across the US anywhere the illegal alien Latino works--the
vast majority of the workforce is usually strictly Latino, excluding
Blacks, Whites, Asians, and others.”
“[A]fter
they’d [the immigrant workers] been there a while, they kind of thought they
owned it. And there was more of them. You know, they kind of stay with their
group, the family, you know, like aunts and cousins. And just about all of
them’s kin somehow, you know? They started changing their attitude… You know,
and it started causing problems. We had quite a few fights in the break rooms.
Then we had them carried out to the parking lot, you know.”
NPR also
interviews the UFCW local president at the time, Joe Ellis. Ellis blames the
immigrant workers for reducing the bargaining power of the union because of
their unwillingness to pay union dues:
“And then when
the Latinos come in, that changed. And when that changed, then the bargaining
unit changed. Because we didn’t have any bargaining power.”
Though NPR
presents this as legitimate, in actual fact the unions’ bargaining power was
reduced not because of immigrants, but because the unions are rotten, corrupt
institutions that police the workforce in collusion with the corporations. A 2004
press release from Kroger supermarkets cites Ellis as praising a deal that the
company boasted “will provide wages and benefits that will allow Kroger to
compete with other retailers in the market.” Ellis praised the sellout as the
product of the union and the company “working together.”
Glass says
there are many factors behind the decline of wages for US-born workers,
including shareholder wealth, automation, lower unionization rates and trade
with China. While Glass concludes that immigration is not the biggest
factor overall, he claims that immigration is to blame for declining wages for
undereducated workers in the region. He cites an economist who “found that
after 20 years of immigrants pouring into the area around Albertville,” wages
dropped “up to $1,200 per year, per worker. So it’s real money.”
Meek then
confronts a white worker with these figures, telling her that she would be
thousands of dollars richer if it weren’t for the immigrants.
This American
Life concludes the show by referencing Trump Attorney General
Jeff Sessions, who, Glass says, is “always talking about working people” when
he “explains what he’s trying to achieve by limitation.”
Implicitly
backing the fascistic propaganda portraying attacks on immigrants as a struggle
against the corporations in defense of American workers, Glass adds, “He barely
sounds like a Republican… says our system’s too biased toward corporations.” He
includes a sound bite of Sessions defending his mass deportation plans with
arguments about benefiting native-born workers.
On this final
note, Glass previews part two:
“Next week on
our show, we go into town to see what 6,000 newcomers cost taxpayers, and what
it was like to have all these immigrants who’d never driven cars before
suddenly on the roads not understanding what a stop sign is, and why a Latino
business owner told his friend to run for mayor on the platform of kicking out
all the immigrants.”

How 800
Americans and lawful immigrants got jobs overnight in Chicago.

I often focus on the nexus between
failures of the immigration system and the way that these failures undermine
national security and public safety. Today, however, we will consider a
more prosaic issue, but one that impacts millions of American and lawful
immigrant workers and their families and hurt the U.S. economy. The fact that millions of illegal aliens
have taken jobs that should be done by Americans and lawful immigrants.
For years we have heard the lament spewed
by globalist immigration anarchists that there are “jobs Americans won’t do.”
That statement is one of many employed in
committing the crime of what I have come to refer to as Theft By Deception: The Immigration Con Game.
There are no jobs Americans won’t do,
provided that they are paid fair wages under lawful working
conditions. The
very concept of "jobs Americans won’t do" is insulting to tens of
millions of hard-working and conscientious Americans who trudge off to work
each and every day to do dangerous, back-breaking and filthy jobs so that they
can support themselves and their families.
Homer Hickam, is the author of the book, “Rocket
Boys,” an autobiographical account of his early years in the 1950s as the son
of a coal miner in Coalwood, West Virginia. Back then, the launch of the
Russian satellite Sputnik motivated him to become involved with rocketry.
He ultimately went on to become a NASA engineer. His book became the
basis for the must-see film October Sky.
Because of his background and eloquence as
a writer, he was called upon to address the memorial service for the miners who
perished at the Sago Mine disaster in 2006. In the eulogy, Hickam said, “There
is no water holier than the sweat off a man’s brow.”
Contrast Hickam's reverence for
hardworking Americans that his eloquent statement reflected with the contempt
of those who derisively claim that Americans apparently won’t do hard work.
Employers who intentionally hire illegal
aliens generally are putting their bottom lines first and not
acting out of compassion. There is nothing compassionate about firing
hard-working Americans to replace them with foreign workers who are vulnerable
to exploitation.
In point of fact, such actions are illegal
and anti-American in the truest sense of that term. President Trump is the
first president, in all too many decades, who understands the issues and is
determined to address this betrayal of American workers by ramping up
immigration law enforcement against unscrupulous employers who knowingly hire
illegal aliens and the illegal aliens themselves.
This two-pronged approach is effective if
enough resources are brought to bear to not only punish the law violators but
to punish enough of them that meaningful deterrence is created to dissuade
employers from hiring illegal aliens and also to deter aspiring illegal aliens
from coming to the United States in the first place.
This is comparable to having police
arrest prostitutes and their clients. In both situations it literally “takes
two to tango.”
On November 28, 2017 the Chicago Tribune published a report on a recent field operation by ICE
(Immigration and Customs Enforcement) “Chicago immigration raid leaves bakery
scrambling to rehire after 800 workers lost.”
That report began with this sentence:
A Swiss maker of hamburger buns for
McDonald’s Corp. said it’s struggling to run a Chicago bakery after it lost a
third of its workers in a clampdown on 800 immigrants without sufficient
documentation.
That sentence could have been written by
George Orwell’s “Ministry of Truth.”
The “immigrants” did not lack “sufficient
documentation.” They lacked the lawful right to work in the United States and,
in fact, were likely illegal aliens, meaning that they not only
did not have the right to work in the United States, they did not have the
right to be present in the United States at all.
The distinction is that aliens who run our
borders and enter the United States without inspection are immediately subject
to arrest and deportation. However, non-immigrant aliens who are admitted
as tourists, for example, are not permitted to work unless they are granted specific
authorization. An alien who works illegally becomes immediately subject
to removal (deportation) even if he/she has not overstayed his authorized
period of admission.
That article went on to note:
The raid on workers at Cloverhill is one
of the biggest U.S. employment headaches reported by a European company so far
as President Donald Trump has made curbing undocumented
immigration a centerpiece of his presidency. Aryzta said it faces challenges in
retaining staff in the U.S. and pressure to raise wages.
One of President Trump’s primary campaign
promises was to put American workers first by enforcing our nation’s
immigration laws. Clearly this strategy works. Eight hundred
American and lawful immigrant workers will be the beneficiaries of that field
operation in Chicago.
Furthermore, foreign workers, whether
they are legally or illegally working in the United States send as much of their
earnings as possible back to their families in their home countries. This
certainly makes sense for them, but is not in the best interests of the United
States.

Every year tens of billions of dollars in
wages earned by illegal aliens is wired or otherwise transferred out of the
United States. This money is permanently lost to the U.S. economy and
increases America’s national debt.
While almost all candidates for political
office promise to create jobs, effective immigration law enforcement can liberate jobs,
freeing up already existing jobs for American and lawful immigrant
workers. Creating new jobs can be difficult and time-consuming, often
requiring that funding be arranged to start a new business or expand an
existing business. Liberating jobs can be done literally overnight as was
reported in the Chicago Tribune story, without the expenditure of time or
money.
At the beginning of my career with
the former INS I participated in worksite investigations and happily witnessed,
up close and in person, lines of new employees standing at the doors of
factories I had helped to raid the day before. Those new workers were of
every race, religion and ethnicity. What united them was that they were
all either Americans or aliens who were authorized to work in the United
States.
While immigration law enforcement is a
function of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because of the national
security and public safety concerns that relate the potential for criminals,
spies and terrorists entering the United States, prior to the Second World War,
the Labor Department had primary responsibility for the enforcement and
administration of our immigration laws.
Our leaders of the Greatest Generation
understood that for America to do well, Americans had to do well. Their
goal was to make certain that American workers would not have to compete with
foreign workers for a job. This was of particular concern during the
Great Depression which saw millions of desperate unemployed Americans standing
on line at soup kitchens. Shielding American workers from foreign competition gave rise to
the middle class which, in turn, created the “American Dream.”
Immigration law enforcement authority was
moved into the Justice Department during the beginning of the Second World War
when concerns arose that enemy combatants, including spies and saboteurs, might
seek to enter the United States.
Today tens of millions of hard-working
Americans are unemployed or under-employed. President Trump’s immigration
policies are beginning to have the desired effect of liberating jobs and
raising wages.
However, politicians from both parties
seek to undermine the President’s goals. What is particularly infuriating
is that Democrats in Congress, who claim to be “pro-labor,” continue to block
the administration’s efforts to secure our borders, not only against narcotics
and other contraband as well as criminals, terrorists and fugitives but against
the entry of foreign workers who undercut the jobs and wages of Americans.

segment of the U.S. population. Their leaders may still claim to be
advocates for American working families, however their duplicitous actions that
betray American workers and their families, while undermining national security
and public safety, provide clear and incontrovertible evidence of their lies.
Americans must demand that all of our
political leaders finally accept the wisdom, morality and true leadership of
the Greatest Generation and support President Trump’s immigration policies and
the underlying principle that for America to do well, Americans must do well.

unveiled a number of other pertinent findings as well. One was that E-Verify
had a greater negative effect on the presence of illegal workers than other
related efforts, indicating that workplace enforcement is the surest way to
reduce the population of illegal workers in a given state. The specific example
provided was the 287(g) program that allows for local law enforcement to wield
authority for immigration enforcement within their jurisdictions. The study did
not report on the effectiveness of the program (arrests, less crime, etc.) but
did report that the presence of 287(g) was not as effective a deterrent to the

US homeless total increases for the first time in seven years

A report published by the Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) found that the number of homeless
individuals in the United States has increased for the first time since 2009.
On a single night in late January 2017, when the point-in-time count was
conducted across the countries, some 553,742 people were recorded as homeless
in the US.
Nearly two-thirds of the homeless were
staying in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs, while one-third
were living on the streets or in shacks and other abandoned dwellings
classified as unfit for human habitation. The vast majority of the unsheltered homeless were in
California, Texas and Florida.
The number of homeless individuals has
increased by 1 percent, or 3,814 people, since 2016. Over one-fifth of homeless
individuals are children under 18, some 114,508, and 10 percent were between
the ages 18 and 24. About 36,000 youth between the ages of 18 and 24 were
homeless without families, as were about 4,800 children under the age of 18.
The unsheltered accounted for all the
increase in homelessness from 2016 to 2017. California alone accounted for an
increase of 16,136 homeless year-on-year, more than the total net increase
nationwide (in other words, outside of California, homelessness actually
declined slightly).
California has by far the largest number
of unsheltered people, nearly 92,000, and the highest proportion of homeless
people outside of shelters, some 68.2 percent. New York state accounts for the
largest number of homeless people living in shelters—nearly 85,000 compared to
43,000 in California. New York also has the largest percentage increase in
homelessness over the past decade, a staggering 43 percent, while the national
total, as counted by HUD, has declined slightly.
Five states account for half of all the
homeless people in the US, with Florida (32,190), Texas (23,548) and Washington
state (21,112) following California and New York.
The issues of underemployment and low
wages are key factors to the number of homeless individuals in the US. The
various statistics used to indicate the success or recovery of the economy are
misleading as well. For example, Harvard professor Lawrence Katz found that
nearly 94 percent of jobs created between 2005-2015 have been
contingent—temporary, short-term or on contract.
Press reports tell the story of “nomadic”
workers who live in their vehicles while working for Amazon, unable to afford
proper housing. A significant portion of the workers travel in order to obtain
temporary jobs during Amazon’s “peak season,” when shipping demands are at
their highest.
The social crisis workers face is only
exacerbated by the Trump administration. This week, the White House has been
pushing to compel those receiving federal aid to work for assistance,
particularly SNAP (food stamps). The US Department of Agriculture announced it
would work with states to “promote self-sufficiency.” Denying eligibility
for food stamps will only swell to toll
of homelessness and extreme poverty, with desperate people forced to
choose between feeding their children and paying the rent.
Already one in eight individuals and
12 million children face food insecurity.
“The American dream has never been to live
on government benefits,” wrote Brandon Lipps, the Department of Agriculture’s
Food and Nutrition Service administrator. “People who can work should work. We
must facilitate the transition for individuals and families to become
independent…”
Homelessness among US veterans declined
over the past decade, only to rise by 2 percent between 2016 and 2017. The
Trump administration aims to encourage this trend, reneging on an election
campaign promise to house all homeless veterans. The Department of Veteran
Affairs (VA) recently announced that a $460 million program that targeted
chronically ill and vulnerable veterans would be ended, then abruptly reversed
itself after a public outcry. Further cuts can be expected in a budget deal
with congressional Republicans and Democrats.
More broadly, in the wake of the Senate
passage of massive tax cuts for the wealthy, congressional Republican leaders
are looking to slash funding for social programs such as Medicaid, Medicare,
and Social Security.
House Speaker Paul Ryan stated that the
GOP aims to reduce spending on social programs, arguing for the need to reduce
the federal deficit. At
an appearance on a talk radio show Ryan stated, “Frankly, it's the health care
entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the
health care entitlements—because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally
speaking.”
Senator Marco Rubio added, “You also have
to bring spending under control. And not discretionary spending. That isn't the
driver of our debt. The driver of our debt is the structure of Social Security
and Medicare for future beneficiaries.”
Homeless rate
among Seattle public school students rises by 55 percent

Two years after Mayor Ed Murray declared a
“homelessness state of emergency” in Seattle, a new report has shed light on
the explosive growth of student homelessness within the city’s public school
system. The “tech boom” that Seattle has experienced over the past several
years has coincided with a sharp rise in student homelessness in the city and
across Washington State, as working families are pushed out of housing by
soaring rents and meager wages.
Seattle is headquarters for both Amazon
and Microsoft, the tech giants whose corporate owners, Jeff Bezos and Bill
Gates, are the two richest men in America, with fortunes estimated at $100
billion and $90 billion respectively. Together with Warren Buffett, these three
richest Americans own more wealth than the bottom half of the American population.
While social inequality grows
exponentially, no serious efforts have been made by Democratic Party officials
to address the plight of homeless students in Seattle, whose intolerable living
conditions serve as an almost insurmountable barrier to getting a decent
education and reflect a deepening social crisis in the United States and
internationally.
The report—published in early November by
the Institute for Children, Poverty, and Homelessness (ICPH)—found that the
number of homeless students, including those living “doubled-up” with relatives
or other families, in Seattle Public Schools grew by a staggering 55 percent
between the 2012-13 and 2015-16 school years. In 2015-16, the total number of
homeless students stood at over 3,600, or more than 6 percent of the student
population. Over half of these students had also been homeless for at least one
of the prior three years.
Although some schools served far more
homeless students than others, the number of homeless students increased in
every Seattle neighborhood except for Beacon Hill, where the number declined
slightly. A staggering 97 percent of the city’s public schools had at least one
homeless student in 2015-16, and 71 percent had more than 10. Interagency
Academy, a network of alternative high schools for struggling students,
reported a 36 percent homelessness rate among its students that year.
Homelessness had predictable effects on
student achievement and absenteeism. During the 2015-16 school year, students
in stable housing were proficient in English at a rate of 69 percent and in
math at a rate of 66 percent. By contrast, homeless students met standards in
English at a rate of 35 percent and in math at a mere 30 percent. Homeless
students were also four times more likely to transfer at least once during the
course of a school year. Meanwhile, rates of chronic absenteeism were 2.5 times
higher among homeless students compared to housed students and over half of
homeless students in grades 9-12 were chronically absent.
The Seattle report is the latest in a
series by the ICPH examining student homelessness in various locations across
the United States. The rate of growth in student homelessness in Seattle is
among the fastest in the country. Between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 school years
alone, student homelessness increased by 20 percent across the city, roughly
the same increase experienced in New York City public schools over the same
year.
In August, the WSWS reported that the
number of homeless students in New York City has grown by 33 percent since 2011
and today approaches 100,000. Similar to Seattle, student homelessness
increased in every borough during this period, which has coincided with a drop
in official unemployment figures and a stock market boom following the 2008
crash.
The official unemployment rate in Seattle
today stands at 3.7 percent, down from 5.3 percent at the start of the 2012
school year. However, average apartment rental prices have grown by nearly 35
percent over the same period, from $1,585 to $2,138. Even with Seattle’s $15 an
hour minimum wage—promoted above all by pseudo-left politicians and the trade
union bureaucracies—working families are increasingly being forced out of a
housing market that has seen the fastest price increases in the nation over the
past year, due in large part to Seattle’s much-heralded “tech boom.” As a
result, Seattle today has the third largest “official” homeless population in
the country, behind only New York City and Los Angeles.
Student homelessness has been rising
throughout Washington state in recent years. According to an annual report
released by the ICPH in July, the state experienced a 30 percent increase in
student homelessness over three years from 2012 to 2015. In 2014-15, four
school districts across the state served more than 1,000 homeless students
each, and homeless students made up more than 20 percent of the student
population in 10 districts.
The sharp rise in student homelessness is
an indictment of the policies of Barack Obama, who never tired of telling
audiences that his America was “the best time in history to be alive.”
Certainly it is for Bezos, Gates and the super-rich who were and are the real
constituency of both the Democrats and Republicans.
Increasing levels of homelessness in
Seattle, New York, and elsewhere are a reflection of the intractable crisis of
American and world capitalism. Following the financial crisis of 2007-08 and
bailouts of the banking industry, jobs that were lost as a result of the crisis
have been replaced by contract, part-time, and temporary work across the United
States. These low-paid positions, which account for the vast majority of job
gains during the “recovery,” often have no benefits and minimal job security.
As a result, many workers have given up on finding employment that would do little
to meet the needs of their families anyway.
In 2014, a panel convened by Democratic
Mayor Ed Murray released a plan, called the Housing Affordability and
Livability Agenda (HALA), for the city to build 20,000 new affordable housing
units over 10 years. To put this number in perspective, Seattle was short
23,500 “very-low income” housing units alone in 2014. Since then, no
significant progress has been made toward the achievement of this timid
proposal which—even if carried out as Democratic Mayor-elect Jenny Durkan has
pledged—will be of little comfort to the thousands of working families already
forced into homelessness in recent years.
For his part, while student homelessness
soared across Washington, Democratic Governor Jay Inslee signed an unconditional
$8.7 billion tax handout to the airplane manufacturer Boeing in 2013. The
deal—ostensibly to “maintain and grow [Boeing’s] workforce within the state”
—was the single largest corporate tax break any state had given to any company
in U.S. history. This prostration, which Boeing rewarded by laying off 15
percent of its workforce in Washington over the following years, belies
handwringing by Democratic politicians over a supposed lack of funds to address
the state’s housing crisis.
As the WSWS wrote in July, “Democratic
Party politicians represent a system that has nothing to offer, except
gentrification and the ever-widening chasm between the super-rich and their
upper middle class backers on the one hand and the vast working class majority
on the other. Only the independent struggle of the working class, armed with a
socialist program, can tackle the desperate social crisis reflected in student
homelessness.”
This latest report on the explosive growth
of student homelessness in Seattle, under a Democratic mayor, governor and
president, only further underscores the urgency of this task.

Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Watters World,” Fox News Channel
host and conservative radio talker Laura Ingraham offered her theory on why
Democrats were unwilling to support a border wall and were for sanctuary city
policies, especially in the wake of the verdict from a San Francisco jury that
found illegal alien Jose Ines Garcia Zarate not guilty for the killing of Kate
Steinle.
Ingraham told host Jesse Watters much of it has to do with
Democrats seeking a demographic shift that is more in line with their policies.
Partial transcript as follows:
WATTERS: Why don’t Democrats want a wall and why do they want
these sanctuary city policies? What is the real reason?
INGRAHAM: I think the real reason ultimately, Jesse,
is they want to replace the current electorate in the United States with a
new electorate — and that new electorate — and electorate that in Ohio,
Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Florida — with a new electorate. And that new
electorate, if the demographic changes bear out that we’ve seen develop in
Virginia, that will create a California, a Florida, a Texas that looks like
Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. So, I think the Democrats want the
replace, you know, the old, white yaahoo conservatives with a new group of
people who might be more amenable to big government and don’t necessarily have
a big affection for the Second Amendment or the Constitution.
And a lot of Republicans don’t want to secure the border because
they want the cheap labor. And so, there was an unholy alliance between the
left and the right for years until Trump came along and basically called them
on their you-know-what and said, ‘Uh uh uh, this is what the people want.
They want a real border. They want a real government and they want safety and
security. He ran on protecting Americans and illegal immigrants from this
kind of carnage. The fact that this was allowed to happen in the first place —
as you said, it was a fantastic monologue — was abominable. But it happens
every day at different levels and different forms. And we’re seeing it.
WATTERS: Do you think that Democrats are willing to take a loss
of Kate Steinle or someone like that by an illegal in a sanctuary city to
further their political agenda?
INGRAHAM: Absolutely.
WATTERS: So, they’re OK with, you know, people dying as long
as the open borders keep happening?
INGRAHAM: It’s kind of like on the sexual harassment stuff,
where you have women saying, “Well, if a few men have to be accused and
they are innocent and they have to go through hell, it’s worth it.” They are

Homeless Crisis in Los
Angeles Worst Since Great
Depression

The number of homeless people living on Los Angeles’s Skid Row is the
worst the city has seen since the Great Depression.
This
year, nearly 2,500 homeless and near-homeless men, women and children were
served Thanksgiving lunch on Skid Row and in Pasadena and Canoga Park. “We
haven’t seen numbers like this since the Great Depression,” Georgia Berkovich,
the director of The Midnight Mission’s public affairs department, told
the Los Angeles Times.
In
2014, Breitbart News went to Skid Row to help
deliver Thanksgiving meals to nearly 300 people. The meals were provided
by My Friends House Foundation and Fair Game food truck.
The
Fred Jordan Mission, which is located nearby, reportedly served over
a ton of turkey drumsticks, 500 pounds of mashed potatoes, 80 gallons of gravy,
560 pounds of candied yams, 585 pounds of green beans, glazed carrots, and 400
pumpkin pies.
The Los Angeles Times also notes
that over 2,000 people were served a sit-down meal of turkey with
trimmings at the 30th annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner for San Fernando
Valley homeless and low-income families at the Guadalupe Community Center in
Canoga Park.
The
homeless epidemic that has swept Los Angeles has become so bad that in August,
the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a program to pay homeowners up to
$75,000 to house homeless people on their own properties.
In
January, the Times noted that although New York City
remains the number one city for homelessness in America, Los Angeles leads the
nation in the number of “unsheltered” homeless people.
Meanwhile,
in Northern California, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf called on her
constituents to open their doors and residences to the city’s homeless during
her annual State of the City address earlier this month.
“Give
up that Airbnb. Fix up that back unit,” Schaff said according
to the San Francisco Chronicle.

During the immigration demonstrations, which were orchestrated by Rob Allyn of Rob Allyn & Co. who is closely tied with George W. Bush, alarming reports of illegals carrying out violent beatings began to surface. In Santa Ana California, illegal aliens swarmed around in mobs invading schools, carrying out violent beatings and in one incident a county worker had a Mexican flag plunged into his chest.
The violent protests that began on May 1 last year were characterized by throngs marching under Mexican flags, many of which were illegal aliens, as a "day without gringos."
Imagine what the reaction would be if white middle class Americans marched in their millions and called the event "a day without blacks."
The media continues to run defense for a violent militant movement that seeks nothing less than the eradication of blacks and whites through ethnic cleansing and the takeover of the southern and western states. This is a separatist junta that has over 30,000 ruthless gang members at its disposal once the call for mobilization is heard, along with millions of illegal aliens pouring across the border.

America could critics of a group called "The Race" be labeled
racists. Such is the triumph of left-wing identity chauvinists, whose

Both Barack
Obama and John McCain will speak this week in San Diego at the annual
conference of the National Council of La Raza, the Latino organization whose
name is Spanish for, yes, "The Race." Can you imagine Obama and
McCain paying homage to a group of white people who called themselves that? No
matter. The presidential candidates and the media have legitimized "The
Race" as a mainstream ethnic lobbying group and marginalized its critics
as intolerant bigots. The unvarnished truth is that the group is a radical
ethnic nationalist outfit that abuses your tax dollars and milks PC politics to
undermine our sovereignty.

ideological satellites, led by Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan,

late GOP Rep. Charlie Norwood rightly characterized the organization as "a
radical racist group … one of the most anti-American groups in the country,
which has permeated U.S. campuses since the 1960s, and continues its push to
carve a racist nation out of the American West."

immigration enforcement leaders and has called for TV and cable news networks
to keep immigration enforcement proponents off the airwaves -- in addition to
pushing for Fairness Doctrine policies to shut up their foes. The New York
Times reported that current "Race" president Janet Murguia believes
"hate speech" should "not be tolerated, even if such censorship
were a violation of First Amendment rights."

subsidized by your public tax dollars (at least $8 million in federal education
grants). The schools include Aztlan Academy in Tucson, Ariz., the Mexicayotl

Minn., and La Academia Semillas del Pueblo in Los Angeles, whose principal
inveighed: "We don't want to drink from a White water fountain, we have
our own wells and our natural reservoirs and our way of collecting rain in our
aqueducts. We don't need a White water fountain … ultimately the White way, the
American way, the neo liberal, capitalist way of life will eventually lead to
our own destruction."

expense, pushing relentlessly to lower home loan standards for Hispanic
borrowers, reaping millions in federal "mortgage counseling" grants,
seeking special multimillion-dollar earmarks and partnering with banks that do

In 2005, the Latino group known as La Raza
(The Race) was given $15.2 million in U.S. federal grants. La Raza also
received an additional $4 million in so-called 'earmarks' tucked into the 2005
Housing Bill, which our Congress passed and President Bush signed. Considering
the racist agenda of La Raza, giving federal funds to this group is tantamount
to the U.S. funding the Nazis in the 1930's.
The comparison to the Nazi Party is well deserved. La Raza
openly supports pushing all but Latino Americans out of a portion of the United
States (ethnic cleansing), they call for 'Reconquista' or the re-conquest of
the American Southwest by Mexico (the re-occupation of the Sudetanland), and
the establishment of 'Atzlan' which is the utopian all-Latino version of the
American Southwestern states (Adolf Hitler planned to called his utopia
Germania).
Karl
Rove was one of the keynote speakers at this year's annual National Council of
La Raza Conference. The event was held in Los Angeles (the eventual capital of
Atzlan). Other speakers included Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, and the virulent racist L.A. Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa. The
fact that Karl Rove is the President's top political adviser and addressed the
group with Bush's blessing, is a strong indicator that this nation is being
subverted at the very highest levels.
If La Raza
was a white supremacist group with equally deep
pockets, the U.S. government would place them on a terrorist watch
list, infiltrate them with undercover FBI agents, and subject them to
constant harassment by the Internal Revenue Service. Eventually,
the group's leaders would be jailed and the group itself would be
rendered irrelevant. However, because La Raza is a Latino
supremacist group, the Bush administration and most of Congress
offer them financial support!
One of La
Raza's biggest supporters is Sen. Harry Reid (D-
NV). In 2001, Reid asked the Senate Appropriations Committee
for $5 million to help further the racist goals of that
organization. That same year, La Raza gave Sen. Reid their
Capital Award for "his commitment to advance legislation
priorities of the Latino community." Reid in turn praised La
Raza by saying: "La Raza is like the biblical David, fighting all
these Goliaths."
Taxpayer
funds are also funneled to La Raza through the Department of Health and Human
Services, The Environmental Protection Agency, and even NASA. Tax dollars are
hidden in these government agencies, earmarked to be specifically given away to
La Raza. Inside the halls of Congress, the practice is known as discretionary
funding...In the real world it is known as money laundering!
In
2005, $7.9 million was stolen from the American taxpayers and given out to
Latino-only charter schools in the form of U.S.

One of the
standard arguments invoked by those in favor of massive immigration into the
United States is that our country is founded on immigrants who have always been
successfully assimilated into America's mainstream culture and society. As one
commentator put it, "Assimilation evokes the misty past of Ellis Island,
through which millions entered, eventually seeing their descendants become as
American as George Washington."1 Nothing more vividly testifies against
that romantic faith in America's ability to continuously assimilate new members
than the events of October 16, 1994 in Los Angeles. On that day, 70,000 people
marched beneath "a sea of Mexican flags" protesting Proposition 187,
a referendum measure that would deny many state benefits to illegal immigrants
and their children. Two weeks later, more protestors marched down the street,
this time carrying an American flag upside down. Both protests point to a disturbing and
rising phenomenon of Chicano separatism in the United States — the product of a
complex of forces, among which are multiculturalism and a generous immigration
policy combined with a lax border control. The Problem Chicanos refer to "people of Mexican
descent in the United States" or "Mexican Americans in general."
Today, there are reasons to believe that Chicanos as a group are unlike
previous immigrants in that they are more likely to remain unassimilated and
unintegrated, whether by choice or circumstance — resulting in the formation of
a separate quasi-nation within the United States. More than that, there are
Chicano political activists who intend to marry cultural separateness with
territorial and political self-determination. The more moderate among them
aspire to the cultural and political autonomy of "home rule". The radicals seek nothing less than
secession from the United States whether to form their own sovereign state or
to reunify with Mexico. Those who desire reunification with Mexico are irredentists who
seek to reclaim Mexico's "lost" territories in the American
Southwest.
Whatever
their goals, what animates all of them is the dream of Aztlan. According to
legend, Aztlan was the ancestral homeland of the Aztecs which they left in
journeying southward to found Tenochtitlan, the center of their new civilization,
which is today's Mexico City. Today, the "Nation of Aztlan" refers to the American
southwestern states of California, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, portions of
Nevada, Utah, Colorado, which Chicano nationalists claim were stolen by the
United States and must be reconquered (Reconquista) and reclaimed for
Mexico. The myth of
Aztlan was revived by Chicano political activists in the 1960s as a central
symbol of Chicano nationalist ideology. In 1969, at the Chicano National
Liberation Youth Conference in Denver, Rodolfo "Corky" Gonzales put
forth a political document entitled El Plan de Aztlan (Spiritual Plan of
Aztlan). The Plan is a clarion call to Mexican-Americans to form a separate
Chicano nation: In the spirit of a new people that is conscious not only of its
proud historial heritage, but also of the brutal "gringo" invasion of
our territories, we, the Chicano inhabitants and civilizers of the nothern land
of Aztlan from whence came our forefathers ...declare that the call of our
blood is...our inevitable destiny.... Aztlan belongs to those who plant the
seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops, and not to the foreign
Europeans. We do not recognize capricious frontiers on the bronze continent....
Brotherhood unites us, and love for our brothers makes us a people whose time
has come .... With our heart in our hands and our hands in the soil, we declare
the independence of our mestizo nation. We are a bronze people with a bronze
culture. Before the world, before all of North America, before all our brothers
in the bronze continent, we are a nation, we are a union of free pueblos, we
are Aztlan.
How
Chicanos are Unlike Previous Immigrants Brent A. Nelson, writing in 1994,
observed that in the 1980s America's Southwest had begun to be transformed into
"a de facto nation" with its own culture, history, myth, geography,
religion, education, and language. Whatever evidence there is indicates that
Chicanos, as a group, are unlike previous waves of immigrants into the United
States. In the first place, many Chicanos do not consider themselves immigrants
at all because their people "have been here for 450 years" before the
English, French, or Dutch. Before California and the Southwest were seized by
the United States, they were the lands of Spain and Mexico. As late as 1780 the
Spanish crown laid claim to territories from Florida to California, and on the
far side of the Mississippi up to the Great Lakes and the Rockies. Mexico held
title to much of Spanish possessions in the United States until the Treaty of
Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American war in 1848. As a consequence,
Mexicans "never accepted the borders drawn up by the 1848 treaty."
That
history has created among Chicanos a feeling of resentment for being "a
conquered people," made part of the United States against their will and
by the force of arms. Their resentment is amply expressed by Voz Fronteriza, a Chicano student
publication, which referred to Border Patrol officers killed in the line
of duty as "pigs
(migra)" trying to defend "the false frontier."
Chicanos
are also distinct from other immigrant groups because of the geographic
proximity of their native country. Their physical proximity to Mexico gives
Chicanos "the option of life in both Americas, in two places and in two
cultures, something earlier immigrants never had." Geographic proximity
and ease of transportation are augmented by the media. Radio and television
keep the spoken language alive and current so that Spanish, unlike the native
languages of previous immigrants into the United States, "shows no sign of
fading."
A result of
all that is the failure by Chicanos to be fully assimilated into the larger
American society and culture. As Earl Shorris, author of Latinos: A Biography
of the People, observed: "Latinos have been more resistant to the melting
pot than any other group. Their entry en masse into the United States will test
the limits of the American experiment...." The continuous influx of
Mexican immigrants into the United States serve to continuously renew Chicano culture
so that their sense of separateness will probably continue "far into the
future...." There are other reasons for the failure of Chicano
assimilation. Historically, a powerful force for assimilation was upward social
mobility: Immigrants into the United States became assimilated as they rose in
educational achievement and income. But today's post-industrial American
economy, with its narrower paths to upward mobility, is making it more
difficult for certain groups to improve their socioeconomic circumstances.
Unionized factory jobs, which once provided a step up for the second generation
of past waves of immigrants, have been disappearing for decades. Instead of the
diamond-shaped economy of industrial America, the modern American economy is
shaped like an hourglass. There is a good number of jobs for unskilled people
at the bottom, a fair number of jobs for the highly educated at the top, but
comparatively few jobs for those in the middle without a college education or
special skills. To illustrate, a RAND Corporation study forecasts that 85
percent of California's new jobs will require post-secondary education. For a variety of reasons, the nationwide
high-school dropout rate for Hispanics (the majority of whom are Chicano) is 30
percent — three times the rate for whites and twice the rate for blacks.
Paradoxically, the dropout rate for Hispanics born in the United States is even
higher than for young immigrants. Among Chicanos, high-school dropout rates
actually rise between the second and third generations. Their low educational achievement accounts for why Chicanos
as a group are poor despite being hardworking. In 1996, for the first time,
Hispanic poverty rate began to exceed that of American blacks. In 1995,
household income rose for every ethnic group except Hispanics, for whom it
dropped 5 percent. Latinos now make up a quarter of the nation's poor people,
and are more than three times as likely to be impoverished than whites. This
decline in income has taken place despite high rates of labor-force
participation by Latino men, and despite an emerging Latino middle class. In
California, where Latinos now approach one-third of the population, their
education levels are far lower than those of other immigrants, and they earn
about half of what native-born Californians earn. This means that, for the
first time in the history of American immigration, hard work is not leading to
economic advancement because immigrants in service jobs face unrelenting
labor-market pressure from more recently arrived immigrants who are eager to
work for less. The narrowing of the pathways of upward mobility has
implications for the children of recent Mexican immigrants. Their ascent into
the middle-class mainstream will likely be blocked and they will join children
of earlier black and Puerto Rican migrants as part of an expanded multiethnic
underclass. Whereas first generation immigrants compare their circumstances to
the Mexico that they left — and thereby feel immeasurably better off — their
children and grandchildren will compare themelves to other U.S. groups. Given
their lower educational achievement and income, that comparison will only lead
to feelings of relative deprivation and resentment. They are unlikely to be
content as maids, gardeners, or fruit pickers. Many young Latinos in the second
and third generations see themselves as locked in irremediable conflict with
white society, and are quick to deride successful Chicano students as
"wannabes." For them, to study hard is to "act white" and
exhibit group disloyalty. That attitude is part of the Chicano culture of
resistance — a culture that actively resists assimilation into mainstream
America. That culture is created, reinforced, and maintained by radical Chicano
intellectuals, politicians, and the many Chicano Studies programs in U.S.
colleges and universities. As examples, according to its editor, Elizabeth
Martinez, the purpose of Five Hundred Years of Chicano History, a book used in
over 300 schools throughout the West, is to "celebrate our resistance to
being colonized and absorbed by racist empire builders." The book calls
the INS and the Border Patrol "the Gestapo for Mexicans."

Acuna, author of Occupied America: The Chicano's Struggle Toward Liberation,
probably the most widely assigned text in U.S. Chicano Studies programs, the
Anglo-American invasion of Mexico was "as vicious as that of Hitler's
invasion of Poland and other Central European nations...." The book also
includes a map showing "the Mexican republic" in 1822 reaching up
into Kansas and Oklahoma, and including within it Utah, Nevada, and everything
west and south of there

is country belongs to Mexico" is said by the Mexican Militant. This is a
common teaching that the U.S. is really AZTLAN, belonging to Mexicans, which is
taught to Mexican kids in Arizona and California through a LA Raza educational
program funded by American Tax Payers via President Obama, when he gave LA RAZA
$800,000.00 in March of 2009!

REALITY OF

Banned: The
American Flag on Cinco de Mayo

When 200
hispanic students skipped school last week and marched through downtown Morgan
Hill, California chanting "Si se puede" intermixed with "We want
respect," none were banned from school attendance on their return.
When five
students, one of them an American from latino roots, wore American flags to
school as a sign of patriotic speech, they were labeled incendiary. They were
instructed to turn their shirts inside-out so as to cover up the American flag.
And when they refused to surrender their first amendment right to expression,
they were given unexcused absences.
Assistant
Principal Miguel Rodriguez called the flag draped wardrobe
"incendiary" because the students had chosen to worn them on May 5,
popularly known as Cinco de Mayo. (A date that "celebrates" Mexico's
defeat of the French in a single battle, in a war that Mexico eventually lost.)
The
school's administration went further in claiming the five students were
attempting "to start a fight" and "adding fuel to the
fire."
Latino
parents chimed in and chided the five students (one of which is of Mexican
ethnic heritage) saying, "we're all offended by it."
One parent,
Teresa Casillas, claimed her hispanic children were upset by the behavior of
the boys wearing the flagged shirts, calling it disrespectful.
Yet for all
the outcry, not an ounce of proof has erupted that the boys made any actions of
provocation--except wear the shirts on Cinco De Mayo.
One of the
more ignorant utterances by one of the hispanic student protestors summed up
the stupidity best, "It's disrespectful to do it on Cinco de Mayo,"
said Jessica Cortez, a Live Oak sophomore. "They can be a patriot on some
other day. Not that specific day."
And so this
is what the argument has been reduced to.
I mean, you
do understand don't you that Cinco de Mayo is not even celebrated en masse by
Mexicans?
Yet the
militant, belligerent, children of latinos living in Morgan Hill are exhibiting
symptoms of a problem that is widespread. Raw naked entitlement that not only
flouts the laws, but has now led to the limiting of the most legitimate
expression whose freedom should always be protected: patriotism.
It was bad
enough that the Obama administration went on a systematic campaign to discredit
the recent right of the state of Arizona to reinforce federal guidelines for
immigration. It was bad enough that the lies were widely told, and never
retracted by news agencies that should have known better.

POLL - 2002 MAJORITY OF MEXICAN POPULATION BELIEVES THE SOUTHWEST TERRITORY OF

Americans
and Mexicans have widely divergent views of border issues, according to a new
poll by Zogby International.
Zogby found
that a large majority of the Mexican population believes the southwest
territory of the U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico, and that Mexicans should
have the right to enter the U.S. without first obtaining U.S. permission. By contrast, Zogby's survey of Americans
conducted within a few days of the Mexican poll shows a large majority supports
reducing immigration levels and wants the military deployed along the border to
protect the U.S. from illegal immigration. Zogby's poll found that 58 percent
of Mexicans agree with the statement, "the territory of the United States'
Southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." Only 28 percent disagree, and 14
percent are unsure. A similar majority, 57 percent, agree with the statement,
"Mexicans should have the right to enter the U.S. without U.S.
permission," while 35 percent disagree. Seven percent are unsure. The
survey has a margin of error of 3.5 percent. The Mexico portion of the survey
was conducted in Spanish between May 25 and May 26 among 801 adults chosen at
random throughout Mexico. The poll was commissioned by Americans for
Immigration Control, Inc. (AIC), which advocates increased restrictions on
immigration. "There is obviously a large and significant gap between the
attitudes of Americans and Mexicans," said Robert Goldsborough, AIC
president. "While most Americans want immigration reduced, most Mexicans
think they don't even need permission to enter our country. The poll clearly
shows there is less common ground for immigration negotiations between Mexico
and the U.S. than the leaders think. Support for a porous border and a loose
migration policy occurs only on the Mexican side, not in the U.S." Zogby's
survey of American attitudes found wide majorities of Americans also oppose
amnesty for illegal aliens. The U.S. portion of the survey was conducted of
1,015 likely voters in the U.S. from May 28 to May 30. It found that 65 percent
disagree with the statement, "foreigners residing illegally in the U.S.
should be given amnesty." Just 26 percent of likely voters support amnesty
for illegals, while 9 percent are unsure. A large majority, 58 percent, agree
that the U.S. should "admit fewer immigrants each year." Only 6
percent want "more immigrants each year," and 30 percent want to
"keep immigration at the current annual levels." The single largest
majority in the entire poll was found among Americans supporting use of the
military to guard the border. Fully 68 percent of those surveyed agree with the
statement, "the U.S. should deploy military troops on the border as a
temporary measure to help the U.S. Border Patrol curb illegal
immigration." Only 28 percent disagree, and 3 percent are unsure.
Mexican Invasion

At the
current rate of invasion (mostly through Mexico, but also through Canada) the United
States will be completely over run with illegal aliens by the year 2025. I’m
not talking about legal immigrants who follow US law to become citizens. In
less than 20 years, if we do not stop the invasion, ILLEGAL aliens and their

another attempt at secession by several US states. Many of them will use ill-conceived
programs that reward illegal immigration to become US citizens. Other illegals will simply go to the
polls and vote without taking the trouble to apply for citizenship. Together, these groups could form a voting

It includes six northern states of Mexican, as well as Texas, New Mexico,
Arizona, California, and southern Colorado. The idea of a Hispanic Homeland
could be ignored as the pipe dream of crackpots if a substantial majority of
Mexican citizens did not support it. A Zogby poll of Mexicans done in June 2002
revealed that a substantial majority of Mexican citizens believe that
southwestern America properly belongs to Mexico. They said that Mexicans do not
need the permission of the U.S. to enter this territory. 58 percent of Mexican
citizens agreed with this statement: "The territory of the United States'
southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." Only 28 percent disagreed with
the statement. Listen to what some Mexican government officials and US leaders
(including politicians and Professors at taxpayer-funded Universities) have to

"Reconquista" means the reconquest of the US southwest by Mexico.
(See LINK below.). These people are serious! They think they are going to take
US territory. The Mexican President declared it here in our country, and Bill
Clinton signed a Presidential Executive Order that paves the way for at least
part of Mexico’s dream. Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo said in Chicago on
July 23, 1997, "I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican nation extends
beyond the territory enclosed by its borders and that Mexican migrants are an
important – a very important – part of this. For this reason, my government
proposed a constitutional amendment to allow any Mexican with the right and the
desire to acquire another nationality to do so without being forced to first
give up his or her Mexican nationality." Translation: It is next to
impossible to receive Mexican citizenship unless you can prove you are of
Mexican descent. But Mexico knows that the US has soft immigration laws and
will grant citizenship to almost anyone. (After all, we grant citizenship every
day to immigrants from countries who have sworn to destroy us.) So Mexico wants
to take advantage of this ridiculous situation by encouraging their citizens to
apply for US citizenship while keeping Mexican citizenship. That way the
Mexican government can influence the political process here in the US.
Executive Order 13122, signed on May 25, 1999, by the most treasonous president
this nation has ever been cursed with, Bill Clinton, established an Interagency
Task Force on the Economic Development of the Southwest Border. Part of the
Order reads, "The Southwest Border or Southwest Border region is defined
as including the areas up to 150 miles north of the United States-Mexican
border in the States of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California."
According to experts on international law, this sets the stage for a
150-mile-wide “Border Zone” that will neither belong to Mexico or the US. This
could then become the first area of a Hispanic Nation that would eventually
encompass the areas shown in the map of the proposed Republica del Norte (The
Northern Republic). Our government, pushed by liberal Democrats, has been
systematically laying the groundwork for such a breakaway republic. Did you
know that immigrants from Mexico and other non European countries can come to
this country and get preferences in jobs, education, and government contracts?
It’s called affirmative action or racial privilege. Some time ago a vote was
taken in the U.S. Congress to end this practice. It was defeated. Every single
Democratic senator except Ernest Hollings voted to maintain special privileges
for Hispanic, Asian and African immigrants. They were joined by thirteen Republicans.
Bill Clinton and Al Gore have repeatedly stated that they believe that massive
immigration from countries like Mexico is good. They have also backed special
privileges for these immigrants. Mexico, a nation that has benefited enormously
from American generosity is now working to destabilize our country. Is
“destabilize” too strong a word? I don’t think so. Whether or not Mexican
leaders think they can actually create enough hatred against “gringos” to
accomplish the creation of a new republic made up of mainly US territory, they
know that pushing that agenda will cause huge political problems here and allow
Mexico to accomplish many of their goals. Is the government of Mexico behind
this? You have seen quotes from a Mexican President and a Mexican Consul
General in support of it. They have everything to gain and little to lose by
pushing it. The Mexican government is also pushing illegal immigration, which
destabilizes our economy. The US Border Control website (see LINK below) shows
an illustration from a Mexican government publication showing their citizens
how to best illegally enter the US. Why? It takes the strain of taking care of
unemployed Mexicans off the Mexican treasury and puts it on the US treasury.
And when the illegals get on welfare, they send some of their money home, which
helps the Mexican economy. All this talk by Mexican and US officials about the
US illegally occupying Mexican territory does nothing but breed racial hatred.
The sad thing is that none of this is about race. It is about the things that
all wars and conflicts are about: Greed, power and money. I don’t like to talk
about a problem without offering a solution. The US politicians and professors
who advocate taking US territory are guilty of sedition. Remove them from their
offices and (hopefully) put them in a federal penitentiary where they can
consider the error of their ways. The Mexican politicians who do the same are
guilty of inciting sedition. This is very close to an act of war. Immediately
cut of all economic aid to Mexico until its government publicly disavows this
lunatic plan. Finally, we must realize that we can’t stop this by marching US
troops into Mexico. We should use troops to guard our borders, because the US
Border Patrol cannot cover the huge US-Mexico border without help. And we need
to use pass laws that will stop the government from rewarding illegal
immigrants at the expense of those who follow the law. We have a huge
immigration problem in this country. This ridiculous Hispanic Homeland idea is

La Raza’s
doctrine is that the American middle class should be Mexico’s welfare system.
We pay for the free delivery of millions of illegals (now 1 in 5 in Los
Angeles), educate their children, pay out welfare, which in Los Angeles County
is 40 million per month, and house their criminal drug gangs in the largest prison
system in the United States. The cost of depressed wages for Americans from the
Mexican invasion and occupation is calculated to be 200 billion annually.
Mexico is
listed by the Christian Science Monitor as one of the most corrupt nations in
the world with more billionaires than even Saudi Arabia. To maintain the
oligarchy’s control on their economy’s monopolies, they must dump their poor,
pregnant and criminal classes over our border so we pick up their welfare and
education costs. An example of Mexican economics is Carlos Slim. Slim controls
Mexico’s phone monopoly. Mexicans pay the highest phone rates in the
hemisphere. Carlos Slim has assets of over $70 billion.
While we
are Mexico’s welfare system, the second biggest stream of money Mexico takes in
is transfers from illegals working in the United States back to Mexico. This is
another reason Bank of America and Wells Fargo violate Federal laws and

Trust
Republicans to go too far. They take a good idea -- such as the notion that the
federal government should enforce immigration laws, and states should be able
to help -- and then drive it into the fringes. Witness a Fox News interview in
which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., declared, "We should change our
Constitution and say if you come here illegally, and you have a child, that
child is automatically not a citizen."
Graham has
supported a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. He opposed the new
Arizona immigration law. So why would he advocate repealing part of the 14th
Amendment -- which, by the way, exists because the Grand Old Party wanted to
stop efforts to keep freed slaves from becoming citizens?
Graham's
right about this much: Illegal immigrants have taken advantage of the law. The
Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that 60,000 babies are born annually in
Texas to illegal immigrants. Last year, these "anchor babies"
accounted for 16 percent of the state's births.
But it's
not clear how many illegal immigrants are coming here to have babies as opposed
to having babies in America because they are here.
Then
there's the recent Washington Post story about "birth tourism" and
affluent expectant mothers paying offshore consultants a $14,750 fee to obtain
tourism visas that allow them to give birth in the United States and win U.S.
citizenship for their babies.
No one
likes to see adults game the system. In June, pollster Scott Rasmussen found
that 58 percent of voters say a child born to an illegal immigrant should not
automatically become a citizen of the United States.
But there
are better ways to deal with those abuses. Direct the State Department to deny
visas to would-be birth tourists. Keep the heat on employers who knowingly hire
illegal workers. The new Arizona immigration law is designed to achieve
"attrition through enforcement." Deport more adults who, unlike
children, knowingly break the law.
But some
Republicans want to keep going. Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, is arguing
that the 14th Amendment does not and never did confer automatic birthright
citizenship.
Section
One states, "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and
subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of
the State wherein they reside."
"There
are two elements, birth and subject to the jurisdiction," Chapman
University Law School Dean John C. Eastman told me. "For about 50 years,
we've just assumed birth was all you needed." But a review of the original
debates and early court cases demonstrates a recognition that parents had to
"show allegiance." If they broke federal law, they "never qualified"
as being under U.S. jurisdiction.
This is
where the argument gets dicey. Eastman has argued that a child born to a Saudi
in the United States on a temporary student visa was not under U.S.
jurisdiction, as the father had not declared allegiance to America. Eastman's
answer is to let people come here to study or work, but as something less than
guests.
This path
could turn a melting pot nation into an empire of the native born and
law-abiding foreign workers who never have a chance to belong. Think Old
Europe. Think Saudi Arabia.

Racist Mexican gangs are indiscriminately targeting blacks who
aren't even involved in gang culture, as part of an orchestrated
ethnic cleansing program that is forcing black people to flee Los
Angeles. The culprit of the carnage is the radical Neo-Nazi
liberation theology known as La Raza, which calls for the
extermination of all races in America besides Latinos, and is being
bankrolled by some of the biggest Globalists in the U.S.
A story carried on the liberal website Alternet, charts an explosion in brutal murders of blacks by Hispanic street gangs in L.A. Far from being gang on gang violence, the Latinos are targeting innocent blacks in accordance with a concerted ethnic cleansing campaign that seeks to eradicate all blacks from Hispanic neighborhoods.
In one instance, 21-year-old Anthony Prudhomme was shot in the face with a .25-caliber semi-automatic while lying on a futon inside his apartment, slain by a Latino gang known as the Avenues as part of a racist terror campaign in which gang members earn "stripes" for each black person they kill.
In one
typical case," writes journalist Brentin Mock, "Three members of the
Pomona 12 attacked an African-American teenager, Kareem Williams, in his front
yard in 2002. When his uncle, Roy Williams, ran to help his nephew, gang member
Richard Diaz told him, "Niggers have no business living in Pomona because
this is 12th Street territory." According to witnesses, Diaz then told the
other gang members, "Pull out the gun! Shoot the niggers! Shoot the
niggers!"
The fatwah
against blacks began in the mid-nineties, with a 1995 LAPD report concluding

'earmarks' tucked into the 2005 Housing Bill, which our Congress passed and

federal funds to this group is tantamount to the U.S. funding the Nazis in the
1930's.
The comparison to the Nazi Party is well deserved. La Raza
openly supports pushing all but Latino Americans out of a portion of the United
States (ethnic cleansing), they call for 'Reconquista' or the re-conquest of
the American Southwest by Mexico (the re-occupation of the Sudetanland), and
the establishment of 'Atzlan' which is the utopian all-Latino version of the
American Southwestern states (Adolf Hitler planned to called his utopia
Germania).
Karl
Rove was one of the keynote speakers at this year's annual National Council of
La Raza Conference. The event was held in Los Angeles (the eventual capital of
Atzlan). Other speakers included Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton, and the virulent
racist L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The fact that Karl Rove is the
President's top political adviser and addressed the group with Bush's blessing,
is a strong indicator that this nation is being subverted at the very highest

Award for "his commitment to advance legislation priorities of the Latino
community." Reid in turn praised La Raza by saying: "La Raza is like
the biblical David, fighting all these Goliaths."
Taxpayer
funds are also funneled to La Raza through the Department of Health and Human
Services, The Environmental Protection Agency, and even NASA. Tax dollars are
hidden in these government agencies, earmarked to be specifically given away to
La Raza. Inside the halls of Congress, the practice is known as discretionary
funding...In the real world it is known as money laundering!

2005, $7.9 million was stolen from the American taxpayers and given out to

Homeless People on a Single Night in January; West Coast Cities Blamed for
Increase

- On a single night in January 2017, more than half a million people -- 553,742
of them -- were homeless, based on the the government's national
estimate.
That's an increase of 0.7 percent from January 2016, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development says the increase is largely attributed to the jump in unsheltered homeless people in larger cities in the West Coast (some of them sanctuary cities, by the way).
“In many high-cost areas of our country, especially along the West Coast, the severe shortage of affordable housing is manifesting itself on our streets,” said HUD Secretary Ben Carson. “With rents rising faster than incomes, we need to bring everybody to the table to produce more affordable housing and ease the pressure that is forcing too many of our neighbors into our shelters and onto our streets."
According to HUD's 2017 Annual Homeless Assessment Report:
-- The 553,742 homeless people counted on a single night in January 2017 has declined 13.1 percent since 2010.
-- Most homeless persons (360,867) were located in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs while 192,875 persons were unsheltered.
-- The number of families with children experiencing homelessness declined 5.4 percent since 2016 and 27 percent since 2010.
-- Veteran homelessness increased 1.5 percent (or 585 persons) since January 2016, primarily in California cities. Since 2010, however, Veteran homelessness declined nationally by 46 percent. On a single night in January 2017, 40,056 veterans were experiencing homelessness.
-- Chronic or long-term homelessness among individuals increased 12.2 percent over 2016 levels though declined by 18 percent (or 19,100 persons) since 2010.
-- The number of unaccompanied homeless youth and children in 2017 is estimated to be 40,799. This year, HUD and local communities said they launched a more intense effort to more accurately account for this important, difficult to count population.
“The fact that so many parts of the country are continuing to reduce homelessness gives us confidence that our strategies -- and the dedicated efforts of communities to embrace best practices -- have been working,” said Matthew Doherty, executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council of Homelessness. “At the same time, we know that some communities are facing challenges that require us to redouble our efforts across all levels of government and the public and private sectors, and we are committed to doing that work.”
HUD’s national estimate is based on data reported by approximately 3,000 cities and counties across the nation.
Every year on a single night in January, planning agencies called "Continuums of Care” and tens of thousands of volunteers fan out in areas where homeless are known to be, to identify the number of individuals and families living in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs and in unsheltered settings.

America's
Farmers Don't Depend on Illegal Immigration
Liberals frame the debate over illegal
immigration as a dilemma: either America grants amnesty to aliens or the
economy will collapse. Some even imply that Americans will starve to
death because of higher food prices – who will pick America's fruits and
veggies if not illegals? Bruce Goldstein, president of a nonprofit called Farmworker Justice, boldly claims that if we were to deport
all illegal aliens, "our agricultural system would collapse." Collapse.
This is nonsense. American
agriculture will not collapse without illegal labor. Why? Because
there are plenty of technological solutions and American workers available to
pick up the slack. It is time to put this myth to bed.
Agriculture is not a labor-intensive
industry, and it has not been for decades. Less than 2 percent of Americans work in agriculture,
according to the World Bank. This figure has declined since 1960, when
roughly 6 percent of Americans worked on farms. If trends continue, we
can expect the number to continue to fall. This is because of the wonders
of mechanization: machines now do everything from threshing wheat to milking
cows. The bottom
line: Most farmers do not "benefit" from cheap illegal labor, since
their labor costs are minimal to begin with.
The "exceptions" to this rule
are fruit and nut farms, located primarily in California. Crops like
raspberries and almonds are notoriously difficult for machines to pick.
There are many reasons for this, including the fact that berries require
a "soft touch" – they ripen at different times, and bushes are tough
for machinery to navigate. These labor-intensive farms are the main agricultural culprits
when it comes to hiring illegal workers. After all, they have the most to
gain.
But realistically, even labor-intensive
agriculture does not depend upon illegal labor. Orchards could get by
without illegal workers since only four percent of American agricultural
workers are illegal aliens, according to a report in National Review. Likewise, only one
in six workers in
California's nut orchards is an illegal alien. Removing illegals from the
system would be inconvenient for them, but it would not drive them out of
business – the remaining employees would simply have to work a few hours of
overtime per day.
Without Aliens, Who Will Pick the Crops?
There are two ways for the agriculture
industry to replace illegal workers: they can either hire Americans or invest
in better technology.
At this moment, there are roughly 23 million unemployed Americans, some of whom have experience in
agriculture. On top of this, America has a massive problem with seasonal unemployment for its college
students. Either way, there are more than enough Americans to
fill the potential labor shortage. The only reason Americans are not
working in agriculture is because they are out-competed by cheap illegal
workers. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals that millions of Americans –
of all races – currently work as janitors, laborers, and agricultural workers.
If farmers were
required to pay market wages, they would not have a problem finding employees.
The counterpoint: If farmers hire
Americans, the price of food will go up! Yes – but not by much.
Higher labor costs can result in higher prices only to the degree that
labor impacts the product's cost. For example, higher wages for train conductors
does not appreciably impact rail shipping costs because there are so few
conductors per unit of freight – rail is capital-intensive. Contrast this
with some retail outlets that spend 70 percent of their revenue on labor costs.
Agriculture – even fruit and nut orchards
– is relatively capital-intensive – i.e., the labor costs
aren't all that significant per unit of produce. Proof is in the numbers.
A 2011 report
published by the Federation for American Immigration
Reform found
that the agriculture industry was one of America's most profitable sectors and
could easily afford to pay its workers 20-30 percent more without significantly
impacting profits.
Furthermore, research conducted by Philip Martin, a leading expert on farm labor and
migration issues, found that labor costs are negligible compared to the retail
cost of produce. In 2006, Martin found that only 5-6 cents of every
dollar spent on produce is due to labor costs. Therefore, if illegal
aliens were removed from the labor force entirely, and labor costs rose by up
to 40 percent to attract American workers, labor would still only account for
7-9 cents. Over the course of a year, this works out to just $9.00 extra
for the average household. This is nothing, especially when you remember that illegal immigration costs America
between $115 billion and $140 billion annually.
The second option, improving technology
and embracing mechanization, is the strategy employed by America's wheat, corn,
and dairy industries. Ever had trouble affording flour or milk?
Probably not. Thank mechanization for this fact, not illegal
aliens.
Although adopting new technology can be
expensive, it brings costs down in the long run. And as it turns out,
there is a good argument to be made that the American fruit and nut industry's
addiction to cheap illegal labor has stifled technological development and kept
prices artificially high. Farmers should and could mechanize – today.
The technology exists. If only America's fruit farms would embrace
it. For example, an American company called "Abundant Robotics" has developed a fruit-picking robot
that can harvest apples and peaches. Other companies have developed machines that are able to pick much smaller,
more delicate fruit, like grapes and strawberries.
America's farmers do not rely on illegal
alien labor. This is a myth cooked up by the pro-illegal immigration
lobby to further its agenda. Nothing more. Meanwhile, America pays the price.

GOP Rep. Newhouse on Amnesty: ‘We
Owe it To These Young People’

GOP Rep. Dan Newhouse told C-SPAN viewers that Americans owe an amnesty
to roughly 690,000 young illegals who got DACA work-permits from former
President Barack Obama.
Newhouse appeared on C-SPAN December 7, where he said:
I have been part of a group that has been asking
and pushing to get this done sooner, preferably by the end of
the year, so we can take this off the table and put
these young people who are in legal uncertainty, give
them some legal certainty in their lives,
some continuity. So I think if there is enough urgency
here that we should address this before the end of the year, not
wait for that March deadline. There are people every day who are
losing their legal status and this is something I think we owe it
to these young people to be able to come up with a
legislative solution that will work for them.
On December 5, Newhouse and 33 other GOP legislators signed a letter to
House Speaker Ryan asking for a quick Christmas amnesty for roughly 690,000
adult illegal immigrants who choose to stay in the United States after being
brought into the country by their illegal immigrant parents.
The GOP letter did not demand any measures that would help young
American fulfill their dreams, or raise their salaries, or that would push
employers to recruit sidelined Americans now living in areas that get little
investment or new jobs. Instead, Newhouse and the other 33 GOP
legislators called for an amnesty to benefit companies and illegal immigrants:
We write in support of passing of a permanent legislative
solution for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients before
the end of the year …
… we must address the urgent matter before us in a a balanced
approach that does not harm valuable sectors of our economy nor the lives of
these hard-working young people. We must pass legislation that protects
DACA recipients from deportation and gives them the opportunity to apply for a
more secured status in our country as soon as possible. Reaching across the
aisle to protect DACA recipients before the holidays is the right thing to do.
The letter also dismissed the importance of American parents and
citizenship, saying that “DACA recipients … are American in every way except
their immigration status.”
When asked by Breitbart why the illegals deserve an amnesty,
Newhouse’s office responded:
DACA recipients were brought here as children through no fault
of their own. In the U.S. we do not hold children accountable for the actions
of their parents. I have sat down with DACA recipients in my home state of
Washington, one of whom was brought here at the age of seven months, and these
young people want to work and contribute to our way of life in the U.S. To
obtain DACA status, these young people were required to be in school, to have
graduated high school or obtained a GED certificate, or be an honorably
discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces. DACA recipients cannot have not
been convicted of a felony or significant misdemeanor.
President Donald Trump is ending Obama’s DACA amnesty in stages.
By November, roughly 300,000 illegals will have lost their DACA work permits,
opening up hundreds of thousands of jobs to Americans.
The 34-member letter also did not denounce the demand by
industry and the Democrats for quick passage of a “clean DREAM Act.” The
legislators’ silence allowed business and progressive groups to portray their letter as
support for the quick, no-strings DREAM Act amnesty.
The Democrats’ pending

civil lawsuits against employers who
hire
illegals, or an end to chain-migration

The expensive push for an unpopular amnesty is being led by
wealthy groups such as the Emerson Collective, New American Economy and FWD.us,
which was created by information-technology investors to raise the supply of
foreign graduates and to lower the salaries of American graduates.
FWD.us’ founders include billionaires Mark
Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, whose Microsoft Corp. is based a short distance from
Newhouse’s district.

Newhouse is a farmer who represents an apple-growing district in
Washington State. He justified his amnesty call by citing fruit-growers’
use of cheap labor to pick their crops, despite his allies’ effort to portray
the low-skill migrants as
university graduates.
Newhouse owns a 600-acre farm and was appointed
the director of the state agriculture department in 2009. He won his
federal seat in 2014 after a very close race with a Tea Party Republican,
partly because of support from the state’s GOP establishment. In Congress,
Newhouse joined the establishment’s Main Street Partnership caucus.
Newhouse said companies like his need imported labor
instead of crop-picking machinery:
The Yakima Valley is where I’m from and we
have a large variety of different kinds of crops that are
raised in the state of Washington. Over 300 crops are raised commercially
in Washington state so it is a
huge agricultural state. But it is intensive agriculture. A lot
of labor is necessary in order to raise some of the crops that
we have in our state. and so, labor is a huge issue.
It really is. It is something, we need it solve
this immigration problem because of the fact of the
matter is the [migrant] folks that we have coming in to do
the agricultural work we absolutely need. There is
not enough American citizens to get the work done to feed
our country and feed the rest of the world. And so this is
a solution that we are working on in order to not only
help agriculture but other aspects, parts of our economy.
American farmers’ reliance on labor instead of machines leaves
them with little maneuvering room as foreign competitors compete for market
share by combining their very cheap foreign labor with U.S-style management
techniques and long-distance transportation. In response, Newhouse is also
pushing Hill legislators to back a plan that
would allow orchard operators to hire the foreign H-2A visa-workers who are
allowed to work in fields for several months a year.

In his C-SPAN interview, Newhouse seemed to recognize the
unpopularity of any no-strings amnesty for either the 690,000 recipients or the
3 million ‘dreamer’ illegals. He said:
I think it is clear the American public would like
to see improvements in the security measures that are taken
not only on the border but also in the interior of our
country. Plus, and this is a very important thing, we want
to get to a spot where we don’t have to in 10 or 15
years to go through this again. So we want to prevent
us being — prevent us from being in the situation
in another decade.
When questioned by callers on C-SPAN, Newhouse veered away from his
December 5 letter urging a quick amnesty, saying “We can’t just pass
a clean DREAM Act.”
He said, without offering any strategy for achieving his extra
goals, that:
We have to have other measures in place so we
don’t have to do this [amnesty] again in 10 or 15 years. So I
agree with your point … What do we do? This [quick amnesty] is
something I think that is the right thing to do but also at the same
time, like I said, we don’t want to have to repeat this action
in the future.
Newhouse’s district is now more than one-quarter Hispanic,
largely because of the many Hispanics who arrived in the state to
work for agriculture companies, such as Newhouse’s operation.
When asked by Breitbart News if he would reject legislation that
lacks safeguards and offsets for Americans, Newhouse’s office responded:
Like most of my GOP colleagues, I have consistently opposed a
‘clean’ Dream Act, because any legislative fix for DACA must not only pass the
House, but President Trump has indicated that increased border security and
immigration enforcement, which I support, are required in a DACA deal to win
his signature. I support a compromise that meets the President’s requirements
to be signed into law; we need to keep all options on the table, including
additional border security, interior enforcement, ending the visa lottery
program, and tougher vetting of immigrants.
The President has said that he would “like to see something where we
have good border security, and we have a great DACA transaction where everybody
is happy and now they don’t have to worry about it anymore because, obviously,
as you know, before, it was not a legal deal.” I
support negotiations for a standalone piece of legislation that supports the
President and would include border and interior enforcement while protecting
DACA recipients from deportation.
Newhouse also said he is spending
half his time lobbying other GOP legislators to pass the quick amnesty for
the young illegals.
There are conversations happening on a regular
basis between all members of
Congress. There are small group meetings happening
every single day. I think that I spend probably myself at least
half of my day visiting with members of — on both
sides of the aisle — members of the House on this issue. I think what we are
trying to do … instead of anyone saying ‘I don’t want to do
this,’ people are trying to find the correct balance of the two
sides on the issue. Some people want a clean DACA bill
meaning that nothing related to border security or any of
those kinds of things are included … that would be more like the DREAM
Act, yes. Others would like to see much more in the way of security measures
taken. So we are trying to find that balance, that sweet spot
in the middle that a majority of the members
of both Houses can accept.
So far, Democrats have refused to accept any safeguards or
offsets on their planned DREAM Act amnesty for 3 million illegals.
However, Democrats are backing away from
their threat to shut down the federal government if they do not get the DREAM
Act amnesty.
The retreat comes as multiple polls show the
public is strongly opposed to the Democrats’ amnesty-or-shutdown threat.
The Democrats’ calls for amnesty are unpopular because the contradict
Americans’ sense of fairness to other Americans. Business groups and
Democrats embrace the misleading, industry-funded “nation of immigrants” polls
which pressure Americans to say they welcome migrants. But the alternative “fairness” polls show
that voters put a much higher priority on helping their families, neighbors,
and fellow nationals get decent jobs in a high-tech, high-immigration, low-wage
economy. The political power of the voters’ fairness priorities was made clear
during the GOP primaries and again in November 2016.

What’s clear is that the producers are leaving the state and the takers are coming in. Many of the takers are illegal aliens, now estimated to number over 2.6 million. The Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates that California spends $22 billion on government services for illegal aliens, including welfare, education, Medicaid, and criminal justice system costs. Liberals claim they more than make that up with taxes paid, but that’s simply not true. It’s not even close. FAIR estimates illegal aliens in California contribute only $1.21 billion in tax revenue, which means they cost California $20.6 billion, or at least $1,800 per household.
Nonetheless, open border advocates, such as Facebook Chairman Mark Zuckerberg, claim illegal aliens are a net benefit to California with little evidence to support such an assertion. As the Center for Immigration Studies has documented, the vast majority of illegals are poor, uneducated, and with few skills. How does accepting millions of illegal aliens and then granting them access to dozens of welfare programs benefit California’s economy? If illegal aliens were contributing to the economy in any meaningful way, California, with its 2.6 million illegal aliens, would be booming.
Furthermore, the complexion of illegal aliens has changed with far more on welfare and committing crimes than those who entered the country in the 1980s. Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute has testified before a Congressional committee that in 2004, 95% of all outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles were for illegal aliens; in 2000, 23% of all Los Angeles County jail inmates were illegal aliens and that in 1995, 60% of Los Angeles’s largest street gang, the 18th Street gang, were illegal aliens. Granted, those statistics are old, but if you talk to any California law enforcement officer, they will tell you it’s much worse today. The problem is that the Brown administration will not release any statewide data on illegal alien crimes. That would be insensitive. And now that California has declared itself a “sanctuary state,” there is little doubt this sends a message south of the border that will further escalate illegal immigration into the state.

Note also in Greer's column a reference to Nielsen's remarks at her confirmation hearing that the American people "owe" DACA recipients an amnesty. Really? Do we? This suggests a shallowness of analysis that itself should make Nielsen's incumbency suspect.
If smuggling youth across our borders is a dangerous and pernicious act — and there is no doubt that it is — then our country should be doing everything possible to interdict and halt that traffic, which results in all too many human tragedies. (See here, here, and here.)
But who are the folks primarily responsible for this cross-border movement of children and youth? The parents. Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

one video, which was Tweeted December 11 by a Democratic leader, Sen. Richard
Durbin, Murkowski said:

no-strings amnesty to roughly 3 million illegals, and allow them to import
millions of additional chain-migration relatives, regardless of education and
skills, attitudes, ideology or willingness to integrate into Americans’
society. The DREAM Act would also put the 3 million illegals on a fast-track to
the ballot box so they can vote in the 2022 and 2024 elections.
Murkowski’s
office declined to answer questions from Breitbart News, including questions
about whether she wants Americans to gain benefits from an amnesty, or if she
supports President Donald Trump’s pro-American immigration principles. The principles would help
raise Americans’ wages and security by ending the visa lottery and chain
migration.
Because
of voting record, Murkowski has a grade of D+ from NumbersUSA, a pro-American immigration
reform group.
Murkowski
“did spout the usual platitudes about illegal immigrants, but
clearly what she is suggesting is that anyone who can
get to the United States is someone we have to accept,” said Ira Mehlman,
a spokesman at the Federation for American Immigration Reform. “We Americans
don’t get to choose [immigrants], we just have to accept people who show up.”
He continued:
She loses sight of why we have immigration laws
in the first place. Nobody disputes the fact
that immigration benefits immigrants — the question is
‘What impact does it have on everyone else? On people’s jobs?
Their children’s education?’
The
director of the Center for Immigration Studies, Mark Krikorian, scoffed at
Murkowski’s comments, noting that:
“America
is a land of immigrants — it is who we are”: This is [President Barack]
Obama-ite nonsense — politicians don’t tell us “who we are.” We just hire
[politicians] to look after our interests. If you take Murkowski’s ramblings
seriously, she seems to think Americans are pathetic losers who need immigrants
to function. This kind of silly blather is so cliched it might as well have
have been generated by a computer program.
On
Friday, Murkowski posted a pro-amnesty Facebook video, in which she said two
Alaska-based illegals deserve to live in the America because of the “beauty in
the spirit that our people bring”:
I
was thinking about how it is so important and so special that in Alaska we show
respect and pride in our native cultures … I was also reminded, as I was
reflecting about that, about an extraordinary meeting I had just yesterday with
two young Alaskans, Alaskans who call this place home, yet they were not born
there. They were born in Mexico. They are dreamers. They are among the many
that are caught up in a very emotional, a very personal plight right now as
their fate is uncertain. And I listened to their stories, I listened to their
concerns, I listened to their dreams and it reminded me that whether your
family has been in Alaska for thousands of years or whether you have just come
here, that the beauty in the spirit that our people bring is so important to
recognize. To those dreamers who are working so hard, who want to stay in the
place that they have truly adopted, my hope, my prayer, is that we here in
Congress will be able to find that path forward, so that your dreams can
be recognized.
Instead
of distinguishing between Americans, immigrants and illegal aliens, said
Mehlman, the Senator:
lumped
everybody together, starting with people who came in the
nineteenth century as if those people have much relevance for the
twenty-first century. If it was any other policy arena, and Senators told us to
continue nineteenth-century policies, they’d be a laughing stock …
They were giving away land in the West in the 1800s — that
doesn’t mean I can go claim my 40 acres today.
Murkowski’s
Facebook statement is “sentimentalist mush,” said Krikorian, adding:
What
struck me was “who want to stay in the place that they have truly adopted” —
but adoption is a two-way street. They may have decided to “adopt” America, but
Americans get a say in whether they choose to adopt them.
The
malarkey about “beauty in the spirit” and “working so hard” is juvenile nonsense.
Should those who grew up here but are ugly in spirit (whatever that might mean,
other than criminality) not be allowed to stay? How about those who, while not
welfare mooches, are nonetheless kind of lazy — do we deport them because of
that?
In
2014, President Barack Obama voiced a similar claim, telling his audience that
Americans do not have the right to exclude migrants:
Sometimes
we get attached to our particular tribe, our particular race, our particular
religion, and then we start treating other folks differently.
And
that, sometimes, has been a bottleneck to how we think about immigration.
If you look at the history of immigration in this country, each successive
wave, there have been periods where the folks who were already here suddenly
say, well, I don’t want those folks. Even though the only people who have
the right to say that are some Native Americans.
Murkowski’s statements align her with the New American Economy pressure
group, which was founded by two billionaires, Mike Bloomberg and Rupert
Murdoch. Both executives stand to gain from an accelerated inflow of
cheap-workers and welfare-aided consumers. In her Tweeted video, she
describes herself as a supporter of the NAE’s “iMarch” campaign for amnesty.
The
NAE group and the Democrats are cooperating to block Sen. Chuck Grassley’s
voter-friendly SECURE Act, which includes many of Trump’s immigration
priorities.
The
3 million ‘dreamer’ illegal immigrants touted by Murkowski are adults who were
brought to the United States as children, but who now choose to remain in the
United States illegally. One a few percent have college degrees,
and many do not even speak English, ensuring that most would rely on federal
and state aid to top up their low wages if they are allowed to stay.
Americans
will be impacted by an amnesty because any increase in the number of workers
will tend to depress wages. For example, employers in Alaska have long
complained that the wages are too high in the state because
too few Americans choose to live there.
One
political goal of the Alaska Chamber of Commerce is “Support workforce
development to increase the number of qualified employees needed to fill
positions in resource industries.”
Many
polls show that the Democrats’ calls for amnesty are unpopular because they
contradict Americans’ sense of fairness to other Americans.
Business
groups and Democrats embrace the misleading, industry-funded “nation of immigrants” polls which pressure
Americans to say they welcome migrants. The alternative “fairness” polls show that voters
put a much higher priority on helping their families, neighbors, and fellow
nationals get decent jobs in a high-tech, high-immigration, low-wage economy.
The
political power of the voters’ fairness priorities was made clear during the
GOP primaries and again in November 2016. This year, groups such as FAIR and
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC have deterred many business-first GOP
politicians from openly supporting an amnesty.
Multiple polls show the public is
strongly opposed to the Democrats’ threat to shut down the government if
they do not get their DREAM Act amnesty by Christmas for 3 million illegals.
Four
million Americans turn 18 each year and begin looking for good jobs in the free
market.
But
the federal government inflates the supply of new labor by annually accepting 1
million new legal immigrants, by providing work-permits to roughly 3
million resident foreigners, and by doing little to block the employment of
roughly 8 million illegal immigrants.
The Washington-imposed economic policy of mass-immigration floods the
market with foreign labor, spikes profits and Wall Street
values by cutting salaries for
manual and skilled labor offered by blue-collar and white-collar employees. It
also drives up real estate prices, widens wealth-gaps,
reduces high-tech investment,
increases state and local tax burdens,
hurts kids’ schools and college education, pushes
Americans away from high-tech careers, and
sidelines at least 5 million marginalized Americans and
their families, including many who are now struggling with opioid addictions.
The cheap-labor policy has also reduced investment and job
creation in many interior states because the coastal cities have a surplus of
imported labor. For example, almost 27 percent of zip codes in Missouri had
fewer jobs or businesses in 2015 than in 2000, according to a new report by
the Economic Innovation Group. In Kansas,
almost 29 percent of zip codes had fewer jobs and businesses in 2015 compared
to 2000, which was a two-decade period of massive cheap-labor immigration.
Because
of the successful cheap-labor strategy, wages for men have remained flat since 1973, and a large percentage of
the nation’s annual income has shifted to investors and away from employees.

Universities Tout Amnesty To
Protect Their Middle-Class Outsourcing Program
A group of wealthy universities is joining the push for a DACA amnesty
because they want to protect the revenue they get by providing
white-collar work permits to 330,000 foreign graduate-customers.
The lobbying group, titled The Presidents’ Alliance on Higher
Education and Immigration, says it wants to push the ‘DACA’ amnesty for 3
million illegals. A very low percentage of the
‘dreamer’ illegals attend college, but the DACA amnesty fight also keeps
President Donald Trump’s deputies on the defensive and less likely to reform
the growing “Optional Practical Training” cash-cow used by Harvard, Georgetown,
Rutgers and many other universities.
“DACA codification is its immediate priority, but the group will
also focus on ‘optional practical training,’ which allows foreign students with
F-1 visas to work legally as part of the educational process, and H-1B visas
for specialized workers,” says a report in
Politico.
The OPT outsourcing program was quietly created in 1992, and
expanded in 2008 and again in 2016, without approval from Congress. It allows
the universities to recruit fee-paying foreign students by offering them work
permits for white-collar jobs in the United States lasting up to 3.5 years.

The OPT program ensures that a huge number of American
graduates lose jobs at many prestigious employers
— including Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Intel, and
Harvard — to the universities’ foreign customers.
The program is growing rapidly. In 2016, 329,158 foreign
students got OPT work-permits, according to the Department of Homeland
Security.
The federal government even subsidizes the outsourcing because
companies which hire OPT graduates do not have to pay for their Social Security
and Medicare taxes. The hidden tax-break means that foreign graduates can be
roughly 20 percent cheaper to employ than American students. Many prestigious companies hire
cheap OPT employees, so helping to
American college graduates.
The OPT program is a feeder for the more famous H-1B program,
which keeps a shifting population of roughly 550,000 foreign graduates in U.S.
middle-class jobs. Universities support the H-1B program because up to 120,000
of the 550,000 H-1Bs are reserved for foreign graduates of the
universities’ postgraduate programs. Also, the universities hire roughly 90,000 H-1B
workers in place of American white-collar graduates, to work as
cheap lecturers in university classrooms and as cheap medical experts in
university-affiliated hospitals. The non-profit universities can hire an
unlimited number of H-1Bs because they are exempt from the annual 85,000 cap on
the private-sector hiring of H-1B workers.
Both the OPT and the H-1B program are threatened by public
opposition because of the shocking 2016 win by populist candidate Donald Trump.
At his inauguration, Trump promised to help Americans get jobs, and his
deputies at the Department of Homeland Security are reviewing all of the
white-collar guest-worker programs.
The OPT program is especially vulnerable to a pending court challenge because
it was created and expanded despite federal laws prohibiting foreign students
from getting jobs outside the university. The fast-growing OPT program,
however, gets little publicity from professional journalists even though it
outsources many jobs sought by the children of America’s professional class.
The H-1B program is vulnerable because it outsources roughly 550,000 white-collar
jobs, mostly in technology. However, the program also puts foreign graduates
into many prestigious U.S. jobs in
medicine and academia, engineering, accounting, and fashion. Many of
those jobs are sought by the 800,000 Americans who graduate from college each
year with skilled degrees in business, medicine, science, architecture,
engineering or computers.
The two programs — plus the related L-1 and J-1 visa program —
currently outsource roughly 1 million white-collar jobs in the United States,
so forcing down starting salaries for new American graduates.
University executives complain that Trump’s pro-American
policies are reducing universities’ revenue from foreign students. According to
a report in Inside Higher Ed:
The steepest declines in new international enrollments were
reported by master’s-level institutions, where new international enrollments
are down by 20 percent, and at associate-level institutions, where they’re
down 19 percent …
Drilling down by academic level helps to explain the top-level
trends. In 2016-17 the number of international students increased by a modest
2.7 percent and 1.9 percent at the undergraduate and graduate levels,
respectively, and fell by 14.2 percent at the nondegree level — a category
that includes intensive English programs, which many students enroll in prior
to entering degree-granting programs.
The fastest rate of growth by far was in the number of students
who are participating in optional practical training (OPT), a number that grew
by 19.1 percent in 2016-17 compared to the prior year.
The pro-OPT group includes Bard College, American University,
George Mason University, Rutgers University-Newark, Ithaca College, Arizona
State University, Georgetown University, Princeton University, Harvard
University, Wellesley College, George Washington University, the University of
California at Merced, the University of Texas at El Paso, Miami Dade College,
University of Memphis and others.

The lobbying group will advocate for illegal immigrants,
according to a press statement. “The

“We serve the nation best when we help unleash the talent of
those who have something to contribute, regardless of their immigration status
or place of birth,” said Nancy Cantor, Chancellor of Rutgers University,
which receives taxpayers via many federal and state programs.
“I’m thrilled to join this effort to help unleash the talent of
immigrant and undocumented students who are ready and eager to give back to
their communities and states and to our country,” said Eduardo Padrón,
President of Miami Dade College, which receives taxpayer funds via many federal
and state.
The Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration
also wants state governments to expand the OPT and H-1B outsourcing programs.
Several states now work with universities to funnel foreign graduates into
private-sector jobs sought by American graduates. “The alliance will also
press for measures to accommodate foreign-born students at the state level,
according to Louis Caldera, a senior fellow at GW’s Cisneros Hispanic
Leadership Institute,” said Politico.

The lobbying group is working closely with several
billionaire-founded pro-amnesty groups, including FWD.us, New American Economy,
and The Emerson Collective. FWD.us is focused on upping the
inflow of foreign graduates into the U.S. labor market. FWD.us’ president, Todd
Schulte, tweeted his support for the university group:
Many university executives are also progressives and
support the arrival of more foreign workers for ideological reasons.
The OPT program is also used by many low-prestige colleges to
help recruit foreign students. In 2012, Computerworld magazine identified
the colleges with the greatest number OPT work-permits:
With little fanfare and virtually overnight, Northwestern Polytechnic has
become one of the country’s largest importers of international students — 95%
of whom are Indian. Last year, 9,026 foreign students had active visas to
attend NPU, according to federal immigration data — that’s more students than
the entire undergraduate population of Harvard, and an increase of 350% from
two years earlier, when Northwestern had just 1,200 … Northwestern Polytechnic’s
9,026 foreign students would make up the ninth-largest body of international
students in the country, according to IIE numbers — above Michigan State
University and just below UCLA.
Federal officials have taken action against colleges
suspected of acting as visa-mills, and market
fluctuations have hurt other OPT-using colleges.
There is much evidence that universities use the OPT program to
tacitly collude with shady companies to deceive employers and customers.
A September 2017 article in the left-wing Mother Jones magazines
magazine, for example, reported some of the abuse in the OPT program:
When Chetan Reddy Kottur graduated in 2011 from Southern
University, a historically black college, he immediately set off for a
Dallas-area body shop called Saxon Global. The
company gave him temporary housing near its office, placing him with five other
Indian guys in a two-bedroom apartment. He slept on the floor in what would
have been the dining room for months. During that time, he says, he fabricated
his résumé because he believed that’s what was expected of him. (According to a
former employee of an Atlanta-based body shop, inflating guest worker
experience is rampant in the industry.) Saxon marketed Kottur as a business
intelligence developer, claiming he had previously created reports using
companies’ internal data to improve their decision making.
One of the résumés Kottur used stated he had seven years of work
experience at American companies like McGraw-Hill Education and a Campus
Federal bank in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (He was only 25 at the time.) Thanks to
a bogus résumé and something known as a proxy call—in which a more seasoned
worker takes a phone interview with a potential client on behalf of a newbie—he
landed a gig in Indianapolis at Simon Property Group, the country’s largest
shopping-mall operator. “I was scared the shit to death,” Kottur recalled. “I
thought, ‘How am I going to do the job?’”
Luckily, his team included others from his hometown of
Hyderabad, and they helped pull him along through the end of the six-month
project. But a few months later, when he started a new posting at the HMO
Kaiser Permanente in Pleasanton, California, Kottur was unable to answer a
series of technical questions from his boss and was fired on the spot. “I
thought this was the only way,” Kottur said. “Every day, my heart was pounding
so much. Usually, I would know in one month whether I would survive or not.” (Saxon
Global CEO Gopi Kandukuri vehemently denied Kottur’s account.)
The OPT program is also being used to funnel foreign students
into American jobs that do not require four-year degrees.
The DHS list of jobs for OPT employees
includes more than 50 types of technical jobs, including “electrical,
electronic… Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Engineering Technology/Technician … solar energy … welding … industrial
production … quality control … automotive engineering … nuclear engineering …
[and] biology.”
The H-1B program is very unpopular. For
example, an August 2017 poll by America First Policies showed that 45 percent
of respondents say “we should reduce the number of foreign workers so that we
can recruit and pay higher wages to American workers.” Far fewer — only 31
percent of respondents — agreed that with the business-first view that “we need
to increase the amount of foreign workers in the country in order to provide
labor and reduce costs for American farms and businesses.” A large slice — 23
percent — declined to give their opinion.
The gap was far wider — 68 percent opposed, 21 percent for —
when the voters were asked about importing more white-collar H-1B visa-workers:
H-1B visas are used by employers to hire foreign workers in jobs
in Science and Technology fields, often at lower pay than Americans. Would you
support or oppose increasing the amount companies must pay H-1B workers to
encourage them to employ more American workers?
The poll’s cross-tabs show
that 36 percent of Americans strongly supported the proposal to raise pay for
H-1Bs to encourage more hiring Americans, while only 8 percent strongly opposed
the proposal.
