COP CRIMES IN AMERICA - ARE ALL COPS LIARS?

Police officer 'no longer employed' after fabricating story about expletive on McDonald's coffee cup

The Kansas police officer who claimed he discovered a vulgar message scrawled on his McDonald's coffee cup is no longer working on the force after admitting to fabricating the story.
Over the weekend, Herington police chief Brian Hornaday said one of his officers purchased a coffee from the fast food chain only to find "f---ing pig" written on it. However, the McDonald's location disputed the claim, arguing that a review of footage from inside the location failed to show any employees writing the message on the cup.
On Monday, the officer who made the claim admitted it was fake and resigned, Hornaday announced in a joint press conference with McDonald's.
"This was completely and solely fabricated by a Herington police officer no longer employed with the agency," he told reporters. "Moving forward, the Herington Police Department will work tirelessly to regain the loss of trust with both McDonald's and with the citizens that we serve."
He added, "I truly hope the former officer of the Herington Police Department that did this understands the magnitude of the black eye this gives the law enforcement profession from coast to coast."
Hornaday declined to release the name of the officer involved but said the 23-year-old former officer claimed the story was "meant to be a joke."
"However, we can see that how something so serious can so out of control very, very quickly," Hornaday said. "The most important thing that could have been done and should have been done in this scenario was to come forward immediately prior to damage being done, prior to this becoming a nationwide incident."
No criminal charges in the incident are expected to be filed.
