Exclusive: Mexico told to probe Slim phone collusion charges

By Patrick Rucker | Reuters – 15 hours ago

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - A court has ordered Mexico's competition watchdog to investigate claims of collusion between businesses controlled by telecommunications tycoon Carlos Slim and Spain's Telefonica, according to a court document seen by Reuters on Sunday.

The federal court asked the Federal Competition Commission (Cofeco) to determine whether there was anything improper in Isidro Faine, a vice-chairman on the Telefonica board, also sitting on the board of Slim's financial group Inbursa .

"(It) could possibly mean that the said companies find it easier to make deals ... that reduce competition," the court said in the January 30 document, a copy of which was obtained by Reuters.

The ruling is the latest twist in a legal complaint brought against Slim and Telefonica last year by companies owned by Mexico's two top broadcasting moguls, Emilio Azcarraga of Televisa and Ricardo Salinas of TV Azteca, who are keen to challenge Slim's dominance of the telephone market.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has slammed the lack of competition in Mexico and estimates the country's phone and internet users were overcharged $13.4 billion each year from 2005 to 2009.

Azcarraga's Bestphone and Operbes, along with Salinas' Iusacell and Unefon, are among the companies which brought the March 2011 complaint.

Cofeco earlier this month rejected a bid by Televisa to buy 50 percent of Iusacell, citing concerns about the proposed alliance between the two top broadcasters.

Slim's telephone companies dominate Mexico with home phone giant Telmex controlling about 80 percent of landlines while Telcel has 70 percent of the country's mobile phone customers.

Telefonica has about 22 percent of Mexico's cell market, and the two companies are also leaders in much of the Latin American telecoms market.

A Telefonica spokesperson declined to comment on the court order, and a spokesman for Slim had no immediate comment. Faine was not immediately available for comment.

Cofeco said it had been notified of the court's demand in the Slim-Telefonica case. "Cofeco is aware of the court order and will act accordingly," an official at the regulator said.

Early in 2011, the companies linked to Televisa and TV Azteca asked Cofeco to investigate Faine's board positions, as well as a bilateral deal reached in late 2010 for Telefonica to pay much higher rates to access Slim's phone network than others in the market were willing to pay.

The court has not ruled on the merit of the claims made in the complaint but instead ordered an investigation to look at the possible conflict of interest that Faine faces as a board member of both a Slim company and of one of Slim's major rivals.

Cofeco declined to investigate the charges in 2011, saying the complaint did not provide enough evidence of collusion. The court order means that the regulator must now take up the matter again, or challenge the order in a federal appeals court.

House Subcommittee Advocates for Ag Guest Workers

On Thursday, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement held its third hearing on the agriculture industry’s complaints about existing immigration laws and its calls for more agricultural guest workers.
Committee leaders from both parties agreed with industry witnesses that the U.S. should import more agricultural guest workers. In his opening statement, Subcommittee Chair Elton Gallegly (R-CA) stated there were not enough U.S. workers willing to do the job. “This is a critical issue to the U.S. agriculture [industry] because…[there are] simply not enough Americans willing to work as migrant farmworkers.” (Bloomberg Government Hearing Transcript, Feb. 10, 2012) Agreeing with Chairman Gallegly, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) called for an amnesty for illegal alien farmworkers already in the country. “[H]ow can anyone think that the answer to our labor needs is to deport over one million agricultural workers who are already here?” she exclaimed. (Id.)
Chair of the full Judiciary Committee, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), called for reforms to existing guest worker programs to allow farmers greater ease in hiring foreign seasonal laborers, and enumerated several points in legislation he proposed this fall. Rep. Smith’s bill, the “American Specialty Agriculture Act” (H.R. 2847), would establish a new H-2C guest worker program that would expand the scope of the program to include all agricultural work. (See FAIR Legislative Update for a summary, Sept. 12, 2011) Currently the H-2A agricultural guest worker program is limited to admitting seasonal farm workers.
Bruce Goldstein, president of Farmworker Justice, argued against the expansion of guest worker programs, stating that illegal alien farmworkers reduce wages and thus discourage Americans from performing agricultural labor. “The presence of undocumented workers depresses wages for all workers, including the roughly 700,000 U.S. citizens….Guest workers will toil to the limits of human endurance at low wages, when U.S. workers seek more sustainable productivity requirements,” he testified. (Id.)
Proponents of guest worker programs continue to argue that there are no U.S. workers, or not enough of them, to meet the needs of the agriculture industry. But this argument, standing alone, overlooks the fact illegal labor inherently depresses wages, thus discouraging American workers from taking agriculture jobs. When it comes to raising wages, employers mistakenly argue that increasing wages to attract Americans would result in significantly higher food prices or a decline in U.S. food production. To the contrary, a report released by FAIR last year studying the impact of immigration on the agricultural industry found that employers would be only minimally impacted if they increased wages to attract a legal workforce. (See FAIR Report: The Effect on the Agriculture Industry of Converting to a Legal Workforce, April 2011) The report found that increasing wages results in a legal and increasingly native-born workforce. Specifically, the study concluded that large corporations (those making over $250,000 annually) can increase employee wages by 30 percent without passing the cost onto consumers. This would allow companies to maintain a profit and attract more American workers.

NOT YET GETTING SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THE "LATINO VOTE"???

E-Verify Resuscitated in Utah House

Utah State Rep. Stephen Sandstrom’s E-Verify bill was brought back to life in the Utah House of Representatives after some procedural maneuvering circumvented the bill’s opponents. Last Wednesday, the House had essentially killed the bill by refusing to let him open a bill file, the standard procedure for introducing any bill in the Utah House. (Salt Lake Tribune, Feb. 8, 2012) Fortunately, a few hours later fellow Republican Rep. Don Ipson allowed Sandstrom to insert his E-Verify language into an empty bill Rep. Ipson had previously filed. (Id.)

Although the E-Verify bill is not yet public, Rep. Sandstrom describes it as loosely based on Arizona’s Legal Worker’s Act and improving state’s existing E-Verify laws. (Id.; see FAIR State Use of E-Verify Guide, Jan. 26, 2012) However, unlike Arizona’s E-Verify law, Sandstrom said his measure would allow a business on probation for hiring illegal aliens to eventually have a clean slate while Arizona’s maintains a record of the violation. He also said his plan would exempt agricultural employers from being required to use E-Verify. (Salt Lake Tribune, Feb. 8, 2012)

Rep. Sandstrom became a target of the Obama Administration when the Department of Justice sued the State last fall over his law requiring law enforcement to verify the immigration status of those they arrest for a felony or Class A misdemeanor if that person is unable to provide valid identification. (Utah H.B. 497; See FAIR Legislative Update, Nov. 28, 2011) Among other things, the law also allows police to ask those stopped for less serious misdemeanors about their immigration status but requires them to do so only if the person is arrested and booked. (Id.) A hearing on the Justice Department’s motion for a preliminary injunction against H.B. 497 takes place this Friday, Feb. 17.

ILLEGALS - NO DRIVER'S LICENSES! PUSHING BACK LA RAZA SUPREMACY IN NM

New Mexico House Passes Bill to Secure Driver’s Licenses

Last week, the New Mexico House of Representatives by a vote of 45-25 passed legislation that would bar illegal aliens from obtaining driver’s licenses. (Las Cruces News, Feb. 8, 2012) The vote in favor of passage came after nearly four hours of debate, and after two committees scrutinized the legislation. (Associated Press, Feb. 8, 2012) The House Labor and Human Relations Committee first gutted the bill, but then the House Judiciary Committee essentially restored it to its original state. (See H.B. 103 legislative history; see also FAIR Legislative Update, Jan. 30, 2012) The final vote in favor of passage included three Democrats who had last year voted against the bill. (Las Cruces News, Feb. 8, 2012)

The bill, H.B. 103, stops illegal aliens from obtaining New Mexico driver’s licenses by making important changes to state law. First, the bill requires that driver’s license applicants submit valid social security numbers instead of simply an individual taxpayer identification number. The bill also requires foreign applicants to submit passport or visa information, plus the date on which the alien’s period of lawful admission expires. The alien’s driver’s license shall then expire the date the alien’s lawful admission expires. (See FAIR Legislative Update, Jan. 30, 2012)

The spokesman for Governor Martinez, who strongly supports H.B. 103, praised the House vote. He said, "It's time for the Senate to also stand with the people of New Mexico and repeal this dangerous law." Opposition to H.B. 103 is expected to be stronger in the state Senate, which killed a similar bill last year. (Santa Fe New Mexican, Feb. 8,

Smith Criticizes Appointment of Public Advocate for Illegal Immigrants
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) today announced the appointment of a public advocate to handle complaints and questions about the administration’s immigration enforcement policies. This new position will serve as a point of contact for illegal and criminal immigrants in deportation proceedings as well as NGOs and other community and advocacy groups. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) criticized the creation of this new position in his statement below.
Chairman Smith: “It’s outrageous that the Obama administration has appointed a taxpayer-funded activist for illegal and criminal immigrants who are detained or ordered deported. The administration all too often acts more like a lobbying firm for illegal immigrants than as an advocate for the American people.
“This is just further proof that the Obama administration puts illegal immigrants ahead of the interests of Americans. The Obama administration’s lack of immigration enforcement allows illegal immigrants to steal jobs away from American workers and now their in-house lobbyist for illegal immigrants costs U.S. taxpayers more money. Illegal immigration already costs U.S. taxpayers billions each year.
“This is also another example of the Obama administration sidestepping Congress to fulfill its campaign wish list. When Congress created the Department of Homeland Security, it created an ombudsman for immigrants in the legal immigration process but declined to create one for illegal immigrants. The President cannot continue to willfully ignore the laws and intent of Congress.
“Who will advocate for American taxpayers and workers? And who will advocate for the victims of crimes these illegal immigrants have committed? Based on their record, it seems this administration won’t.”

GROSS MISINFORMATION BY NEWSWEEK ON IMMIGRATION
By Frosty Wooldridge
February 13, 2012
NewsWithViews.com
Cassandra Syndrome, loss of reason, loss of action, loss of choices
As most of you know, I have attempted to educate the American people as to the long term ramifications of relentless immigration. I’ve tried exposure of what we are doing to ourselves as a culture and language. I’ve attempted to enlighten you as to the environmental degradation. I’ve done my darnedest to show you the dilapidation to our quality of life and standard of living. I’ve spoken on hundreds of radio stations and all the TV networks as to what we face by adding another 100 million immigrants by mid century. That’s correct: we remain on course to add 75 million immigrants by 2035 and 100 million immigrants by 2050. They continue as the driving force of our population explosion.
I have talked to my U.S. senators. I’ve spoken to Republican clubs, Democratic clubs, Rotary, Lions, Audubon, Sierra, church groups, colleges and high schools. I have shown them graphs and slide shows as to the ultimate ending of endless immigration-driven population growth. If my publisher added the “10 most populace cities” into this commentary, you will see what will happen to America. (If he can’t, email me at frostyw@juno.com and I’ll send you the five minute video.) I have visited all those cities that house up to 30 million people. The sheer crush of humanity has not warned those civilizations to stabilize their numbers. They continue growing without pause.
Their citizens live in utter despair and hopelessness as to their conditions. India stands at the forefront of sickening human compaction and poverty, yet it continues to add 12 million people annually, net gain. The citizens of India are so steeped in their religions that they won’t save themselves. It’s beyond incomprehensible to anyone with a rational mind.
While I write and speak with facts and integrity, I get called scurrilous names by those that would flood America endlessly with unfathomable immigrant numbers—from a line that grows by 80 million desperate humans globally each year. Who is guilty of it? The Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, Islamic Church and the U.S. Congress. Mexicans want as many of their tribe as they can move into America. Muslims push for greater numbers of their tribe. Africans flee the Dark Continent because it is so horrible to live there. Indians and Chinese spend $7 billion annually to get their people smuggled into America and Canada. (Source: Forbes Magazine)
No matter how much common sense I bring to the debate, I am exasperated that most Americans do not possess a clue as to the final outcome of that added 100 million. And another 200 million beyond that to double U.S. population to 600 million by 2070. I don’t know if our citizens are blind, deaf and dumb, or so apathetic that nothing bothers them as long as it’s “okay” today.
If Americans possessed a clue as to what will befall their children, perhaps they would speak up. But maybe not! Indians don’t. Mexicans don’t. Indochinese don’t. The Chinese didn’t.
Every indicator that our country is failing shows up daily with 15 million unemployed, 7 million underemployed, 46 million Americans subsisting on food stamps, $700 billion annual trade deficit, $15 trillion national debt, endless wars that cost $15 billion monthly and thousands of kids dropping out of high school daily. I have said it before: illiteracy defines a third world country. With 42 million functionally illiterate Americans, we are well on our way. Nonetheless, Congress pumps over 125,000 immigrants into this country every 30 days. I am beyond exasperated as to why and how we can do this to our country.
To tell you the truth, as a messenger, you might refer to me as the Cassandra Syndrome: The Cassandra Syndrome is a term applied to predictions of doom about the future that are not believed, but upon later reflection turn out to be correct. This denotes a psychological tendency among people to disbelieve inescapably bad news, often through denial. The person making the prediction is caught in the dilemma of knowing what is going to happen but not being able to resolve the problem. The origin of the name is derived from Cassandra, who, using her prescience, foresaw the demise of Troy. No one believed her.
At some point, my work will become self-evident, but that will be the greatest tragedy for me and our civilization—especially our children.
What we face grows clearer and more lucid to me by the year. More sobering: once those 100, 200, 300 million manifest, we won’t be able to solve our problems or save ourselves. We will become victims just like those people in India, China, Bangladesh and Mexico. Then you might ask yourself: where do your children flee for “a better life”?
And yet in 2012, just as the illiterate masses of India exponentially explode their numbers into greater human misery and hopelessness, we Americans allow our country to absorb the unending immigrant swarm from those countries. Frenchman Jean Raspail wrote about it in his famous book: The Camp of the Saints. Raspail, still alive, wrote a novel about an armada of poverty-stricken Indians that fled their misery in Asia and steamed toward France to save themselves and look for a “better life.” One of the journalists asked the captain about his natives: “You don’t know my people—the squalor, superstitions, the fatalistic sloth that they’ve wallowed in for generations. You don’t know what you’re in for if that fleet of brutes every lands in your lap. Everything will change in your country. They will swallow you up.” (SHALL WE TALK ABOUT MEXICAN GANGS? ACCORDING TO CA ATTORNEY GEN KAMALA HARRIS, NEARLY HALF OF ALL MURDERS ARE BY MEXICAN GANGS!)
Today, our country fractures by the week. We feature honor killings, female genital mutilation, arranged marriages, animal sacrifice, cock fighting, dog fighting and endless drug and sex trafficking. We deform our society into that which they fled. We are losing our language, culture and viability as a civilization.
We sit watching it unfold on the evening news, but half of us won’t vote in the national elections and 90 percent won’t vote in local elections. To this day, nobody will speak up about suspending all immigration into this country. Only Roy Beck with 1.1 million members is trying to get immigration suspended, but he doesn’t have enough members to make impact. I urge you to join him.
“Immigration by the numbers—off the chart” by Roy Beck
This 10 minute demonstration shows Americans the results of unending mass immigration on the quality of life and sustainability for future generations: in a word “Mind boggling!” www.NumbersUSA.org
But the same armada invades Canada, Europe and Australia. And the citizens of those countries continue to “watch passively.” The United Kingdom is being displaced by the Middle East—lock, stock, culture and language. Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Germany and France follow in the UK’s footsteps.
It’s almost breathtaking to watch all these countries commit cultural, linguistic and environmental suicide.
In part 2: You will hear about the “Elevator Metaphor” on immigration. You will find it terribly sobering and utterly reasonable. It’s not racist, sexist or xenophobic. It’s about carrying capacity and numbers. In the end, it’s up to us, the citizens of this country and Canada, Europe and Australia, to make immigration a national discussion and to demand a moratorium on all immigration. If we don’t, the history books will record our folly and our stupidity.

The principal beneficiaries of our current immigration policy are affluent Americans who hire immigrants at substandard wages for low-end work. Harvard economist George Borjas estimates that American workers lose $190 billion annually in depressed wages caused by the constant flooding of the labor market at the low-wage end.

What will America stand for in 2050?
The US should think long and hard about the high number of Latino immigrants.
By Lawrence Harrison

Palo Alto, Calif.
President Obama has encouraged Americans to start laying a new foundation for the country – on a number of fronts. He has stressed that we'll need to have the courage to make some hard choices. One of those hard choices is how to handle immigration. The US must get serious about the tide of legal and illegal immigrants, above all from Latin America.
It's not just a short-run issue of immigrants competing with citizens for jobs as unemployment approaches 10 percent or the number of uninsured straining the quality of healthcare. Heavy immigration from Latin America threatens our cohesiveness as a nation.
The political realities of the rapidly growing Latino population are such that Mr. Obama may be the last president who can avert the permanent, vast underclass implied by the current Census Bureau projection for 2050.
Do I sound like a right-wing "nativist"? I'm not. I'm a lifelong Democrat; an early and avid supporter of Obama. I'm gratified by his nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. I'm also the grandson of Eastern European Jewish immigrants; and a member, along with several other Democrats, of the advisory boards of the Federation for American Immigration Reform and Pro English. Similar concerns preoccupied the distinguished Democrat Barbara Jordan when she chaired the congressionally mandated US Commission on Immigration Reform in the 1990s.
Congresswoman Jordan was worried about the adverse impact of high levels of legal and illegal immigration on poor citizens, disproportionately Latinos and African-Americans. The principal beneficiaries of our current immigration policy are affluent Americans who hire immigrants at substandard wages for low-end work. Harvard economist George Borjas estimates that American workers lose $190 billion annually in depressed wages caused by the constant flooding of the labor market at the low-wage end.
The healthcare cost of the illegal workforce is especially burdensome, and is subsidized by taxpayers. To claim Medicaid, you must be legal, but as the Health and Human Services inspector general found, 47 states allow self-declaration of status for Medicaid. Many hospitals and clinics are going broke because of the constant stream of uninsured, many of whom are the estimated 12 million to 15 million illegal immigrants. This translates into reduced services, particularly for lower-income citizens.
The US population totaled 281 million in 2000. About 35 million, or 12.5 percent, were Latino. The Census Bureau projects that our population will reach 439 million in 2050, a 56 percent increase over the 2000 census. The Hispanic population in 2050 is projected at 133 million – 30 percent of the total and almost quadruple the 2000 level. Population growth is the principal threat to the environment via natural resource use, sprawl, and pollution. And population growth is fueled chiefly by immigration.
Consider what this, combined with worrisome evidence that Latinos are not melting into our cultural mainstream, means for the US. Latinos have contributed some positive cultural attributes, such as multigenerational family bonds, to US society. But the same traditional values that lie behind Latin America's difficulties in achieving democratic stability, social justice, and prosperity are being substantially perpetuated among Hispanic-Americans.
Prominent Latin Americans have concluded that traditional values are at the root of the region's development problems. Among those expressing that opinion: Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa; Nobelist author Octavio Paz, a Mexican; Teodoro Moscoso, a Puerto Rican politician and US ambassador to Venezuela; and Ecuador's former president, Osvaldo Hurtado.
Latin America's cultural problem is apparent in the persistent Latino high school dropout rate – 40 percent in California, according to a recent study – and the high incidence of teenage pregnancy, single mothers, and crime. The perpetuation of Latino culture is facilitated by the Spanish language's growing challenge to English as our national language. It makes it easier for Latinos to avoid the melting pot and for education to remain a low priority, as it is in Latin America – a problem highlighted in recent books by former New York City deputy mayor Herman Badillo, a Puerto Rican, and Mexican-Americans Lionel Sosa and Ernesto Caravantes.
Language is the conduit of culture. Consider: There is no word in Spanish for "compromise" (compromiso means "commitment") nor for "accountability," a problem that is compounded by a verb structure that converts "I dropped (broke, forgot) something" into "it got dropped" ("broken," "forgotten").
As the USAID mission director during the first two years of the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua, I had difficulty communicating "dissent" to a government minister at a crucial moment in our efforts to convince the US Congress to approve a special appropriation for Nicaragua.
I was later told by a bilingual, bicultural Nicaraguan educator that when I used "dissent" what my Nicaraguan counterparts understood was "heresy." "We are, after all, children of the Inquisition," he added.
In a letter to me in 1991, Mexican-American columnist Richard Estrada described the essence of the problem of immigration as one of numbers. We should really worry, he wrote, "when the numbers begin to favor not only the maintenance and replenishment of the immigrants' source culture, but also its overall growth, and in particular growth so large that the numbers not only impede assimilation but go beyond to pose a challenge to the traditional culture of the American nation."
Obama should confront the challenges by enforcing immigration laws on employment to help end illegal immigration. We should calibrate legal immigration annually to (1) the needs of the economy, as Ms. Jordan urged, and (2) past performance of immigrant groups with respect to acculturation.
We must declare our national language to be English and discourage the proliferation of Spanish- language media. We should limit citizenship by birth to the offspring of citizens. And we should provide immigrants with easy-to-access educational services that facilitate acculturation, including English language, citizenship, and American values.

TEACHER’S POSTING ON CRAIGSLIST:
Subject: Cheap Labor This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent  From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:  I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.  Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.  Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)  I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)  I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS A T WORK)  I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas" whores and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.  Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements? To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Mexico prefers to export its poor, not uplift them At this week's summit, failed reforms under Fox should be the issue, not US actions.
By George W. Grayson
WILLIAMSBURG, VA.
At the parleys this week with his US and Canadian counterparts in Cancún, Mexican President Vicente Fox will press for more opportunities for his countrymen north of the Rio Grande. Specifically, he will argue for additional visas for Mexicans to enter the United States and Canada, the expansion of guest-worker schemes, and the "regularization" of illegal immigrants who reside throughout the continent. In a recent interview with CNN, the Mexican chief executive excoriated as "undemocratic" the extension of a wall on the US-Mexico border and called for the "orderly, safe, and legal" northbound flow of Mexicans, many of whom come from his home state of Guanajuato. Mexican legislators share Mr. Fox's goals. Silvia Hernández Enriquez, head of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations for North America, recently emphasized that the solution to the "structural phenomenon" of unlawful migration lies not with "walls or militarization" but with "understanding, cooperation, and joint responsibility." Such rhetoric would be more convincing if Mexican officials were making a good faith effort to uplift the 50 percent of their 106 million people who live in poverty. To his credit, Fox's "Opportunities" initiative has improved slightly the plight of the poorest of the poor. Still, neither he nor Mexico's lawmakers have advanced measures that would spur sustained growth, improve the quality of the workforce, curb unemployment, and obviate the flight of Mexicans abroad. Indeed, Mexico's leaders have turned hypocrisy from an art form into an exact science as they shirk their obligations to fellow citizens, while decrying efforts by the US senators and representatives to crack down on illegal immigration at the border and the workplace. What are some examples of this failure of responsibility? • When oil revenues are excluded, Mexico raises the equivalent of only 9 percent of its gross domestic product in taxes - a figure roughly equivalent to that of Haiti and far below the level of major Latin American nations. Not only is Mexico's collection rate ridiculously low, its fiscal regime is riddled with loopholes and exemptions, giving rise to widespread evasion. Congress has rebuffed efforts to reform the system. Insufficient revenues mean that Mexico spends relatively little on two key elements of social mobility: Education commands just 5.3 percent of its GDP and healthcare only 6.10 percent, according to the World Bank's last comparative study. • A venal, "come-back-tomorrow" bureaucracy explains the 58 days it takes to open a business in Mexico compared with three days in Canada, five days in the US, nine days in Jamaica, and 27 days in Chile. Mexico's private sector estimates that 34 percent of the firms in the country made "extra official" payments to functionaries and legislators in 2004. These bribes totaled $11.2 billion and equaled 12 percent of GDP. • Transparency International, a nongovernmental organization, placed Mexico in a tie with Ghana, Panama, Peru, and Turkey for 65th among 158 countries surveyed for corruption. • Economic competition is constrained by the presence of inefficient, overstaffed state oil and electricity monopolies, as well as a small number of private corporations - closely linked to government big shots - that control telecommunications, television, food processing, transportation, construction, and cement. Politicians who talk about, much less propose, trust-busting measures are as rare as a snowfall in the Sonoran Desert. Geography, self-interests, and humanitarian concerns require North America's neighbors to cooperate on myriad issues, not the least of which is immigration. However, Mexico's power brokers have failed to make the difficult decisions necessary to use their nation's bountiful wealth to benefit the masses. Washington and Ottawa have every right to insist that Mexico's pampered elite act responsibly, rather than expecting US and Canadian taxpayers to shoulder burdens Mexico should assume.

MEXICO CONTROLLED BY ORGANIZED CRIME. BUT THEN ISN’T D.C. CONTROLLED BY WALL ST’S ORGANIZED CRIME???

By Xelan Bonn
WASHINGTON, D.C. - May 15, 2008
Now risen to the level of an insurgent war, the battle between the falling Kleptocratic Mexican government and supra-wealthy organized crime groups who now control much of Mexico's land areas, police forces, and even some of its military has hit a new milestone.
Exasperating political climates, the violence, bloodshed, and hatred for Americans South of the border, coupled with rising injustices and racism against and by US citizens, compounded by an incompetent federal government North of the border, are propagating the fires of civil discontent on both sides and about to strip-away the last veneers of civility.
ASK YOURSELF WHAT THE DEMS HAVE DONE FOR YOU, THEN COMPARE IT TO WHAT THEY’VE DONE FOR LA RAZA!!! DEMS ARE THE PARTY of ILLEGALS!
Toss into the ugly political salad the mix of illegal immigration, free trade, high treason, disdain for the Constitution by US leaders, anti-rule-of-law anarchists groups and members of Congress (i.e. pro-open borders, pro-illegal immigration groups), and increasing economic pressures and uncertainties on both sides of the border, the climate is now ripe for growing a civil war.
Corrupted Mexican officials are driving an ever-increasing political wedge against Americans, demanding non-existent rights for millions of their invading hordes in direct violation of the Treaty of Guadalupe--giving the US the unilateral legal right to militarily invade Mexico and seize its oil fields and other natural assets. However, at the highest level of government, both countries remain safe from such political unthinkables--but then the choice as to whether the US goes to war with Mexico is not in either government's hands.
Somewhere, anywhere, perhaps along any stretch of the border where Mexican militants are becoming extremely aggressive, or within any US city where illegal aliens have coalesced, a violent event is now likely to unfold that could trigger a powerful domino effect, bringing both countries to war with lightening speed--citizen national against citizen national!

OBAMA’S DEPT of HOMELAND SECURITY IS CONTROLLED BY LA RAZA JANET NAPOLITANO. SHE SEES HER JOB AS PUSHING DREAM ACTS TO GET MORE OF LA RAZA OVER OUR BORDERS. OBAMA’S SEC. OF LABOR IS LA RAZA SUPREMACIST HILDA SOLIS. SHE SEES HER JOB AS PUTTING ILLEGALS IN OUR JOBS, AND HELPING OBAMA’S DEPT. of JUSTICE SABOTAGE E-VERIFY! SOLIS HAS DECLARED THAT ANYONE THAT GETS IN OUR  BORDERS IS “WE ARE ALL AMERICANS”. OBAMA BELIEVES ALL “AMERICANS”, INCLUDING HIS LA RAZA PARTY BASE OF ILLEGALS, SHOULD BE VOTING. HIS DEPT of JUSTICE IS NOW FIGHTING STATES ALL OVER THE NATION THAT WANT ID.S TO VOTE TO CURB THE NUMBER OF ILLEGALS VOTING! VIVA LA RAZA? OBAMA NOT ONLY ADDRESSES LA RAZA MEETINGS REFERRING TO AMERICANS (LEGALS) THAT ARE AGAINST HIS OPEN BORDERS AS “OUR ENEMIES”, HE USES TAX DOLLARS TO FUND THE MEXICAN FASCIST PARTY of LA RAZA’S GET OUT THE ILLEGALS VOTES CAMPAIGN! Along the borders, many patriotic Americans are often working side by side to prop up a greatly understaffed Border Patrol, as well as aid what many pundits claim is an incompetent, bureaucratically quagmired Department of Homeland Security. Such private groups, uncensored by government regulations, are now reporting that aggressive actions by both armed and unarmed Mexican citizens, coupled with high tensions on both sides of the border, are threatening to erupt into full-scale war--a war that neither government will be able to quell once ignited, they suggest. [1]
Gun fights between Mexicans and Americans on the borders are not unusual and many Border Patrol agents have lost their lives while others have been used, and even jailed, as international political fodder in a fight fraught with political and economic complexities and racial and nationalistic tensions.
Hatred is now growing on all sides of the issues and fences.
"The Brown Berets de Aztlan [in the US] have undertaken an active campaign to recruit more soldiers and form new chapters throughout Aztlan," said Chairman David Rico this month. (Aztlan is defined by this group as Southwest United States and parts of Mexico--to be a new country ruled by militant Mestizos--i.e. Mexicans).[3]
Making matters worse is the fact that Mexican human and drug smugglers have hired gang members, such as the international Mara Salvatrucha street gang, to kill U.S. Border Patrol agents.[4]
Across the country in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago, Latino gangs made-up of largely illegal aliens, are routinely practicing race-based murder against Whites and Blacks. [5]
YOUR LA RAZA DEMS AT WORK… for illegals!
Even members of Congress have splintered into race-biased groups, such as the Hispanic Caucus lead by Rep. Luis Gutierrez, a known anti-rule-of-law proponent of illegal immigration and original signatory to the unconstitutional Kennedy/McCain "comprehensive amnesty" bill proposal expected to cost taxpayers an estimated $7 to $36 trillion dollars over 30-years if approved. [5.2] (He is not alone in his disdain for the Constitution and law or anti-Americanisms, given Democratic House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi's blocking of all progress on the SAVE Act, which would markedly end illegal immigration by forcing criminal employers to quit hiring illegal aliens).
[PUA Note: Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have both refused to support the Safe America Act, which would seal our borders within 6 months and repatriate all illegal aliens within 16 months, permanently ending illegal immigration, and more--its the bill proposal of its kind that would actually save taxpayers trillions of dollars and help reduce the national debt while increasing security for all Americans.]
In the mean time, White and Black supremacist groups have remained largely benign, showing little retaliation against illegal alien Latino gangs to date, which could be a sign of a dangerous smoldering time bomb looking for an excuse to explode.
Activist groups, as well as state law makers, are routinely pointing out that the federal government has breeched its Constitutionally required duty under Article IV, Section IV to protect citizens and states from foreign invasion, instead choosing to play politics with the law and mislabeling the invasion (of an estimated 11-16 million armed and unarmed Mexican citizens and another 4-8 million nonMexicans) as merely unfortunate--ignoring the $300+ billion yearly impact on local and state governments and landslide of negative impacts on Americans.[6]
Each year, foreign invaders murder an estimated 4,380 Americans in their undeclared war on Americans, a death toll totaling more than the 5 years of war in Iraq combined. [7] Compounding the impacts, another 4,735 innocent Americans are slaughtered by illegal alien drunk drivers who should not be in the country at all but are allowed to remain by local, state, and federal law enforcement. [sic] Equally sickening is the fact that over 243 innocent children are brutally molested or raped each month by foreign intruders--tragic crimes that could have been avoided by simply enforcing our immigration laws--clearly Pelosi and Gutierrez stand against American children, given their Draconian positions and respective outcroppings. [sic]
Many journalist and researchers now conclude that President Bush and Congress have raised their collective incompetency to the level of criminal negligence, and even treason, for failing to deal with these issues as required by law and Constitution.[8] Criticism, legal, and political issues aside in the US, the war South of the border continues to escalate and threaten the US.
A United Nations survey of security and criminalization of 38 countries ranked Mexico "number one" in the category of "violent crime" in the use of firearms--a country where privately owned guns are largely illegal--much to the detriment of its defenseless citizens.[9]
In the state of Sinaloa, unarmed and unprotected families have locked themselves inside their homes in fear of being gunned down by pervasive local drug cartels who have killed over 46 Mexicans so far this month.[10] State and federal leaders have gathered in secret locations in a desperate attempt to figure out how to retake control. [11]
Organized crime, which collectively earns an estimated $23 to $40+ billion annually from the illegal drug and human trafficking markets in the US, are growing bolder throughout Mexico and using their funding to corrupt anything and everything that stands in their way. They have hit an all-time high in both infiltration of government, as well as murder of prominent families, police, and army officials--racking up 102 executions nationally in just the last seven days.[12] Mexican armies are now spread thin, trying to quell the violence and warfare across one third of its territories but are losing ground--government leaders are highly alarmed. [13]
The raging war in Mexico has gotten so bad that three high ranking federal officers resigned their posts and asked the US government for "political asylum" last month.[13.2] The obvious implication is that the Mexican government can no longer protect its own and is now being seen as a political threat to upstanding citizens--such is the infiltration and corruption level within government by organized crime that now appears to be running much of the government (for all intents and purposes).
In the city of Tijuana, Wild West style shoot-outs on city streets have become common place between the forces of good and evil, with evil largely winning with impunity. A major cash cow for Mexican mafias, kidnapping along the border areas of both American and Mexican citizens has escalated to such a point that mayors of cities from Tijuana to Juarez have requested help from the Mexican Secretary of Government. [sic]
Even the US has entertained the idea of sending a billion dollar stipend to Mexico's deep dark financial hole (where so much money is known to mysteriously disappear). [14] Ironically, given the state of the Mexican government's corruption at all levels, such funds may ultimately end up in the hands of the very organized crime groups it was meant to fight--imagine Americans funding their own foe and demise!
Fueling the war fires by showing their lack of concern for opening the deadly Pandor'a Box onto American society, President Bush, Mexican President Calderon, and Canadian Prime Minister Harper are pressing forward aggressive plans to permanently open the border with Mexico to the US in advancement of their free trade agenda under the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). The SPP, according to many research analyst, journalist, state legislators and other officials, has been deemed the precursor to the North American Union (NAU). The goal, they claim, is to eventually combine the US, Canada, and Mexico into one country under one currency--the "Amero"-- much like the European Union. It is a claim the three leaders flatly deny, but their actions, and those of all three governments, dictate the plan is well underway.[15]
The result has been that state legislators, like Arizona's State Senator Karen Johnson, have taken bold steps to stop the NAU and have threatened to secede their states from the union in the event unconstitutional mandates such as the SPP are attempted by the federal government. [16] Twelve states have some form of anti-SPP/NAU laws either secured or in the works. [17]
Citizens across the US are awakening to the facts with much anger and bitterness, pointing hatful fingers at both federal leaders and millions of unwanted foreign invaders stealing their resources and opportunities.
Compounding problems, Mexico's government has proven itself equally incompetent.
Admitting its own abuse of immigrants coming to Mexico from its South, the Mexican oligarchy of super-wealthy families who puppet-master the Congress and President, have perennially proven themselves unwilling and unable to deal with their own country's economic and immigration problems, or its endemic corruption. Their last resort agenda for their own failures has been to push their citizens out of Mexico and into the US toward keeping their economy from collapsing--using the ploy of blaming the US for criminalizing the trespass of its borders while crying racism--even though Mexico is comprised of many races and ethnicities--counting on the ignorance and assistance of the national mainstream new media in the US to swallow the bait and promote its smoke-screen rhetoric. [18]
Mexico will become one of the main expellers of its countrymen because of the high degree of violence and insecurity, according to Marion Hoffmann, regional representative of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in the Distrito Federal.[19]
Then there are, of course, the drug and human trafficking wars still raging on and threatening the US in too many ways.
Mexican border cities everywhere can be exampled by Juarez where deadly violence has become a mainstay and is spilling across into the US with tragic consequences--that city alone reported 31 dead for the first twelve days of May.
Characterized as " very dangerous"..."potentially deadly" by Rob Daniels of Border Patrol, Mexican gunmen stormed an armed National Guard unit in Arizona between Lukeville and Nogales showing their disdain for the US and its security measures. [20]
"There has been an over-100 percent increase in the last fiscal year in border violence aimed at our Border Patrol agents, and that ranges from gunshots fired across the border to rocks being thrown, sometimes flaming rocks," said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.[21]
Mexicans have heavily armed themselves and are increasingly prepared to use force to ensure their continued US invasion via both drug and human trafficking.[22]
"They've got weapons, high-tech radios, computers, cell phones, Global Positioning Systems, spotters and can react faster than we are able to," said Shawn P. Moran, a 10-year U.S. Border Patrol veteran who serves as vice president of the National Border Patrol Council Local 1613 in San Diego. [sic]

"And they have no hesitancy to attack the agents on the line, with anything from assault rifles and improvised Molotov cocktails to rocks, concrete slabs and bottles," he said. "There are so many agent 'rockings' that few are even reported anymore. If we wrote them all up, that's all we would be doing," he said. [sic]
In Arizona and California, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) scratched the surface of criminal overspill into the US from Mexico when they raided two dwellings to save over a hundred illegal alien kidnapped victims being held hostage by Mexican organized crime. [22.1]
The political artifice that unsecured borders and immigration is merely a minor issue unworthy of solving by US leaders contrasts the hard reality that we are now engaged in a low level war with Mexico--a war that could escalate at any moment.
Compounding the violent aspects are the racist aspects from both camps, on both sides of the border.
In Mexico, a recent Zogby poll declared that the vast majority of Mexican citizens hate Americans. [22.2] Mexico is a country saturated with racism, yet in denial, having never endured the social development of a Civil Rights movement like in the US--Blacks are harshly treated while foreign Whites are often seen as the enemy. [22.3] In fact, racism as workplace discrimination can be seen across the US anywhere the illegal alien Latino works--the vast majority of the workforce is usually strictly Latino, excluding Blacks, Whites, Asians, and others. [22.4] This has not gone unnoticed by US citizen workers.
In the US, growing worker frustration from wage devaluation and job losses due to illegal immigration and free trade, as well as a faltering economy is spurring increased intolerance for both illegal aliens and those in the Hispanic communities who are increasingly seen as co-conspirators for their failure to speak-out loud and clear against the foreign invasion. Hate crimes have been on a steady increase since 2005 with 7,722 reported in 2007 alone (the majority race-based), according to the FBI. [23]
Raising its ugly head in 2002 and making a recent comeback, the Flash video game known as Border Patrol is again increasing its popularity across the US on the Net. In what is seen as racist or hate-mongering content, the video features the US-Mexican border and illegal aliens trying to cross--points are scored for killing illegal aliens.
Such social trends tend to show increasing frustrations and underlying anger of US citizens that is fueling an undercurrent mix of nationalism and racial tensions between Americans and Mexicans in particular. [24]
Adding unwanted fuel to race tensions is the mainstream news media's insistence on not reporting the facts on illegal immigration or the dangers of open borders while focusing on the agendas and rhetoric of race-based groups. For example, pro illegal immigration activist Alfredo Gutierrez, an alleged Latino racist, revealed the group's agenda and strategy that is still in use to this day.
“We call things racism just to get attention. We reduce complicated problems to racism, not because it is racism, but because it works.” [25]
Such statements have been turned into a mainstream news media platform, which has been consistently brought forward in the press and is actually racist in and of itself--for it promotes the race-based agenda of those who support illegal immigration, which devalues fact exploration, rule-of-law, Constitutional respect, and logical conclusions surrounding highly complex issues that are severely and negatively impacting Americans--and now skewing both camps toward a war footing.
The sad irony is that illegal aliens come in all races and ethnicities, including Euro-whites, so while race clearly plays a role on both sides of the issue toward fueling hatred in both camps, race itself in not the central issue--not by a long shot.
This administration and this Congress are and will be responsible for the deaths of thousands of our citizens for their failure to secure our borders and they should be held [legally] accountable, said Lou Dobbs, of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight. [26]
If anything is clear from these trends and developments, it is that Congress's dereliction of duty to ensure the enforcement of our current laws, and the President's preoccupation with his treasonous SPP project that is undermining trust in government and fueling nationalism, are two major underlying weights pressuring a frustrated citizenry toward a predilection for violence that has, as yet, remained well constrained. For there are two camps of citizens in America--those who clearly see the threats and are ready to fight for their country--and those who have kept their heads in the sands and are ready to run away from their country--the former will likely do all the deciding for the latter.
The issue, although clearly not about race at its roots, is quickly becoming a political wildfire about race and nationalism due to the rudderless and incompetent national leadership of two countries whose failed policies and lack of solution-making on behalf of their citizens, is outcropping us all toward yet another preventable catastrophe. Citizens are being forced to the solve the problems government refuses to deal with, and as we all know, that's when things go to hell.
Americans will never tolerate an open border with Mexico and they want control of their country, immigration, borders, and security returned to them, while Mexico's citizens will likely tire of living in fear in their own land--they will, at some point, as in their historical past, rise up to take matters into their own hands. We could very well be in the midst of the starting stages of the next Mexican Revolution where both mafias and governments may soon learn to fear the people--but it's a civil war more likely than not to ignite first on American soil--where one stupid act mislabeled as "racism" by one side or the other, could trigger it all.
One thing is certain for both country's citizens--they each deserve better from their government and leaders--and they each deserve a country that works!

They are dying.

SURGE OF HEAVY BREEDING MEXICANS

More immigrants

While the census information did not include demographic breakouts, immigration groups were quick to claim that immigrants, and particularly Latinos, accounted for much of the population growth, both here and across the country.

"Today's data, coupled with recently released Census Bureau estimates, demonstrate that the Latino population has significantly influenced how congressional seats are apportioned among the states," the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund said in a statement.

But the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which supports controlled immigration, called the population increase "enormous and unwelcome" and a further strain on the country's natural resources.

"It is increasingly clear that our immigration policies are divorced from the social, economic and environmental realities that face our nation," said its president, Dan Stein.

Latinos represent the fastest-growing demographic group in the United States as well as in Washington state. Census estimates for the 2005-2009 period released this month show the Latino population in Washington grew 41 percent since 2000.

Nationally, one-quarter of all births are to Latino mothers, compared with 19 percent in Washington state, according to state figures.

Washington gains 830,000 residents, becomes 13th most populous state

Washington grew faster than the nation and two-thirds of the states, earning a 10th seat in Congress and edging up two notches from its rank in 2000 to become the nation's 13th most populous state, according to the 2010 census. Much of the growth was driven by immigration.

Washington added more than 830,400 residents during the past decade to become the nation's 13th most populous state.

Washington grew faster than the nation as a whole and two-thirds of the states, according to 2010 census figures released Tuesday. Its population growth gained the state a 10th seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The state now is home to 6.7 million people, nearly double its population of 40 years ago.

Yet, the state's decade-over-decade rate of growth for 2010 was the lowest in 70 years — mirroring a national trend.

"That reflects an aging population, where two kids per household have become the norm, except for the Latino population," said Richard Morrill, a Seattle demographer and professor emeritus of geography with the University of Washington.

"We're seeing a lot of immigration," he added. "That's been in the news for a long time now."

The census figures were announced Tuesday in Washington, D.C., by U.S. Census Bureau officials and Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, the former Washington governor whose department oversees the bureau.

The data show 308.7 million people living in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, a growth of 9.7 percent from a decade ago.

The release was simply a population count and did not include any demographic data, such as age and race. Information on city and county population growth won't be released until February or March.

Washington added 14 percent more people to reach a population of 6,724,540. The state moved up two notches, surpassing Indiana and Massachusetts, to become the 13th most populous state. The 2000 census showed a 21.1 percent population growth in Washington.

The population numbers released Tuesday also included 28,829 overseas military and federal civilian employees counted as Washington residents.

Regionally, the South and the West picked up the bulk of the nation's population increase, adding 14,318,924 and 8,747,621 people, respectively. The Midwest added 2,534,225 people, and the Northeast states picked up 1,722,862.

Among individual states, Nevada grew by the largest percentage, while Texas added the greatest number of residents. Michigan was the only state to lose population. California remained the nation's most populous state and Wyoming its least.

Migration spurs growth

Demographers at Washington state's Office of Financial Management use a number of measures — including school enrollment and driver's license information — to project population estimates far into the future.

Their projection for 2010 came within less than 1 percentage point of the actual number reported by the Census Bureau on Tuesday.

Yi Zhao, chief demographer, pointed out that population grows in two ways: natural increase — the difference between births and deaths — and migration, foreign and domestic.

"During normal years," she said, "birth and death usually contribute to half the growth, and the other half comes through migration."

Between 2000 and 2010, the state added a total of 380,400 people through natural growth. The remainder of the population increase — nearly 450,000 — come through migration, people moving from either another state or from overseas.

Most came, state figures show, after the so-called dot-com bust in the early part of the decade and before the economic and housing meltdown that struck near the end.

ILLEGAL ALIEN POPULATION MAY BE AS HIGH AS 38 MILLION

Study: Illegal alien population may be as high as 38 million A new report finds the Homeland Security Department "grossly underestimates" the number of illegal aliens living in the U.S. Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies released a report August 31 that estimates the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is between 8 and 12 million. But the group Californians for Population Stabilization, or CAPS, has unveiled a report estimating the illegal population is actually between 20 and 38 million. Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens. "Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated. Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy."

LOS ANGELES TIMES

60 MILLION CALIFORNIANS BY MID-CENTURY, AND MOST WILL BE HISPANIC – VIVA LA RAZA! VIVA LA RECONQUISTA!
60 million Californians by mid-century

Riverside will become the second most populous county behind Los Angeles and Latinos the dominant ethnic group, study says.By Maria L. La Ganga and Sara LinTimes Staff WritersJuly 10, 2007Over the next half-century, California's population will explode by nearly 75%, and Riverside will surpass its bigger neighbors to become the second most populous county after Los Angeles, according to state Department of Finance projections released Monday. California will near the 60-million mark in 2050, the study found, raising questions about how the state will look and function and where all the people and their cars will go. Dueling visions pit the iconic California building block of ranch house, big yard and two-car garage against more dense, high-rise development. But whether sprawl or skyscrapers win the day, the Golden State will probably be a far different and more complex place than it is today, as people live longer and Latinos become the dominant ethnic group, eclipsing all others combined. Some critics forecast disaster if gridlock and environmental impacts are not averted. Others see a possible economic boon, particularly for retailers and service industries with an eye on the state as a burgeoning market."It's opportunity with baggage," said Jack Kyser, chief economist for the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp., in "a country masquerading as a state."Other demographers argue that the huge population increase the state predicts will occur only if officials complete major improvements to roads and other public infrastructure. Without that investment, they say, some Californians would flee the state. If the finance department's calculations hold, California's population will rise from 34.1 million in 2000 to 59.5 million at the mid-century point, about the same number of people as Italy has today. And its projected growth rate in those 50 years will outstrip the national rate — nearly 75% compared with less than 50% projected by the federal government. That could translate to increased political clout in Washington, D.C. Southern California's population is projected to grow at a rate of more than 60%, according to the new state figures, reaching 31.6 million by mid-century. That's an increase of 12.1 million over just seven counties.L.A. County alone will top 13 million by 2050, an increase of almost 3.5 million residents. And Riverside County — long among the fastest-growing in the state — will triple in population to 4.7 million by mid-century.Riverside County will add 3.1 million people, according to the new state figures, eclipsing Orange and San Diego to become the second most populous in the state. With less expensive housing than the coast, Riverside County has grown by more than 472,000 residents since 2000, according to state estimates. But many residents face agonizingly long commutes to work in other areas. And Monday, the state's growth projections raised some concerns in the Inland Empire.Registered nurse Fifi Bo moved from Los Angeles to Corona nine years ago so she could buy a house and avoid urban congestion. But she'd consider moving even farther east now that Riverside County is grappling with its own crowding problems."But where am I going? People used to move to Victorville, but [housing prices in] Victorville already got high," the 36-year-old said as she fretted about traffic and smog and public services stretched thin. "We don't know where to go. Maybe Arizona."John Husing, an economist who studies the Inland Empire, is betting that even in land-rich Riverside County, more vertical development is on the horizon. Part of the reason: a multi-species habitat conservation plan that went into effect in 2005, preserving 550,000 acres of green space that otherwise would have vanished."The difficult thing will be for anybody who likes where they live in Riverside County because it's rural," Husing said. "In 2050, you might still find rural out by Blythe, but other than that, forget rural."Husing predicts that growth will be most dramatic beyond the city of Riverside as the patches of empty space around communities such as Palm Springs, Perris and Hemet begin to fill in with housing tracts. The Coachella Valley, for example, will become fully developed and seem like less of a distinct area outside of Riverside, he said. "It'll be desert urban, but it'll be urban. Think of Phoenix," he said. Expect a lot of the new development in Riverside County to go up along the 215 Freeway between Perris and Murrieta, according to Riverside County Planning Director Ron Goldman. Thousands of homes have popped up in that area in the last decade, and Goldman said applications for that area indicate condominiums are next. The department is so busy that he's hiring 10 people who'll start in the next month."We have over 5,000 active development applications in processing right now," he said.No matter how much local governments build in the way of public works and how many new jobs are attracted to the region — minimizing the need for long commutes — Husing figures that growth will still overwhelm the area's roads.USC Professor Genevieve Giuliano, an expert on land use and transportation, would probably agree. Such massive growth, if it occurs, she said, will require huge investment in the state's highways, schools, and energy and sewer systems at a "very formidable cost."If those things aren't built, Giuliano questioned whether the projected population increases will occur. "Sooner or later, the region will not be competitive and the growth is not going to happen," she said.If major problems like traffic congestion and housing costs aren't addressed, Giuliano warned, the middle class is going to exit California, leaving behind very high-income and very low-income residents. "It's a political question," said Martin Wachs, a transportation expert at the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica. "Do we have the will, the consensus, the willingness to pay? If we did, I think we could manage the growth."The numbers released Monday underscore most demographers' view that the state's population is pushing east, from both Los Angeles and the Bay Area, to counties such as Riverside and San Bernardino as well as half a dozen or so smaller Central Valley counties.Sutter County, for example, is expected to be the fastest-growing on a percentage basis between 2000 and 2050, jumping 255% to a population of 282,894 , the state said. Kern County is expected to see its population more than triple to 2.1 million by mid-century.In Southern California, San Diego County is projected to grow by almost 1.7 million residents and Orange County by 1.1 million. Even Ventura County — where voters have imposed some limits on urban sprawl — will see its population jump 62% to more than 1.2 million if the projections hold. The Department of Finance releases long-term population projections every three years. Between the last two reports, number crunchers have taken a more detailed look at California's statistics and taken into account the likelihood that people will live longer, said chief demographer Mary Heim. The result? The latest numbers figure the state will be much more crowded than earlier estimates (by nearly 5 million) and that it will take a bit longer than previously thought for Latinos to become the majority of California's population: 2042, not 2038.The figures show that the majority of California's growth will be in the Latino population, said Dowell Myers, a professor of urban planning and demography at USC, adding that "68% of the growth this decade will be Latino, 75% next and 80% after that."That should be a wake-up call for voting Californians, Myers said, pointing out a critical disparity. Though the state's growth is young and Latino, the majority of voters will be older and white — at least for the next decade."The future of the state is Latino growth," Myers said. "We'd sure better invest in them and get them up to speed. Older white voters don't see it that way. They don't realize that someone has to replace them in the work force, pay for their benefits and buy their house."

HOW MANY ILLEGAL CLIMBED OUR BORDERS SINCE 2006?

News Release: CALIFORNIA IS THE DIM PICTURE OF AMERICA'S FUTURE

Visit CAPS website at www.capsweb.org.

SANTA BARBARA--October 5, 2006--America prepares to surge past a population of 300 million people sometime around October 15, one need only to look at what has happened to California over the past two decades to see what is in store for the rest of the nation. "Three hundred million people is neither an achievement nor an endpoint, but just a landmark on the way to a billion people," said Diana Hull, President of Californians for Population Stabilization. "It is time to remind everyone again, that perpetual growth is the philosophy of a cancer cell." Hull delivered her comments at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, where some of the nation's top population and immigration experts warned that 300 million people is nothing to celebrate. The grim foretelling in California of the impacts that massive population growth will have on the nation's environment and quality-of-life demonstrates how fast the 'tipping-point' can be reached. "The California Experiment is an example of how far and how fast a magnificent natural inheritance can be squandered and plundered," Hull said. "How fast the skid and how far the fall." Hull, a behavioral scientist trained in demography who served on the Sierra Club's Population Committee and the Southern California Demographic Forum, said California's cultural penchant for fast-if-easy living was quickly outstripped by its unchecked appetite for simply 'more.' "In our state, the race to gargantuan-size has progressed so far and so fast that we can barely move," Hull said. "Freeways have become like doors that the morbidly obese can no longer fit through, thus the size of everything has to expand." It's unlikely that Governor Pat Brown, who invested heavily in California's infrastructure, could have envisioned in 1965 the human tidal wave that would eventually swamp his fabled public works. But it was in 1965 that real sustained population growth began in California that would take on what Hull described as "astonishing momentum" over the next four decades. In 1965, California's population was just over 18 million people. Today, California has more than 37 million people, and sustains a net-gain of about 500,000 more people annually. The vast majority of people flowing into the state, Hull said, are legal and illegal immigrants; the vast majority of them are poor and uneducated and require social assistance. The resulting cultural arguments over immigration have obscured the most basic question the state government and the media should be openly discussing: how many more people can the state take? The answer may be found in the devolution of California over the past four decades, from a sun-dappled state that could provide its people an enviable quality of life to a gritty jumble of jammed public schools, failing emergency rooms, overwhelmed social services, vanishing green space and suburban sprawl so vast that three hour commutes to and from work are now a reality. As Hull noted on Tuesday, the overpopulating of California occurred not with popular support, but rather amid a collective slumber. "The state became a pilot project in a failed social experiment that no one had agreed to beforehand," she said. "All around us there were more people, more traffic, more crowds, more long waits, more houses and more shopping centersbut never enough." The resulting dislocations caused by a deteriorating quality of life, which has seen large numbers of Californians fleeing the state, has been more than made up for by surging net gains in the population fueled by immigration. Yet amazingly, the nation's bi-partisan leadership at virtually every level of the federal government seems unwilling to learn from what has happened to California, but to the contrary seem more than prepared to let California's fate become America's future. Despite four decades of hard evidence of the potentially catastrophic impacts--particularly for the environment--of unmanaged population growth, Hull said the nation's leaders have been shamefully silent. "As demographic momentum accelerated, the pace of this growth and the changes it wrought were never systematically observed and monitored, nor even officially acknowledged," she said. "And little interest was shown in evaluating outcomes." Those outcomes are evident everyday now in California, from the implosion of trauma centers across Los Angeles County to the bulldozing of some of the most fertile farmland in the Central Valley to make way for more homes. "The two very worst outcomes are that infrastructure over-use wears everything out faster than we can replace it," Hull said. "And there is an insatiable demand on natural resources that are now unable to replenish themselves." “We could cut unemployment in half simply by reclaiming the jobs taken by illegal workers,” said Representative Lamar Smith of Texas, co-chairman of the Reclaim American Jobs Caucus. “President Obama is on the wrong side of the American people on immigration. The president should support policies that help citizens and legal immigrants find the jobs they need and deserve rather than fail to enforce immigration laws.”

“Obama’s rejection of any serious jobs program is part of a conscious class war policy. Two years after the financial crisis and the multi-trillion dollar bailout of the banks, the administration is spearheading a campaign by corporations to sharply increase the exploitation of the working class, using the “new normal” of mass unemployment to force workers to accept lower wages, longer hours, and more brutal working conditions.” WSWS.ORG

U.S. Census Bureau projection: U.S. population 625 million before 2100 (LaSeer)

310 million in 2010.
405 million in 2040.
437 million in 2050.
505 million in 2070.
625 million before 2100.

Above numbers do not include illegal aliens, births to illegal aliens, and, if Senate passes illegal immigrant amnesty next week, supposed “relatives” of amnestied ex-illegal immigrants. Illegals immigrants, births to illegal immigrants, amnesty, and chain migration of “relatives” of amnestied ex-illegal immigrants could push U.S. population over 1 billion mark sometime between 2100 and 2150.

This excellent, 9 minute, 31 second, high definition video shows U.S. Census Bureau projections of U.S population growth, which the Census Bureau projects will hit 625 million before the year 2100:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muw22wTePqQ&feature=player_embedded

The following outline of the historical population growth in the U.S. begins with data from the first U.S. Census in 1790. The information includes current U.S. Census Bureau data and U.S. Census Bureau population growth projections.

1770-1970: The U.S. took in about 250,000 immigrants per year.

1790: The first U.S. Census counted 4 million people in the U.S.

1790-1915: A 125-year period during which the first 100-million increase in U.S. population happened, and the population increased to 104 million.

1915: Around this time, the U.S. Census Bureau declared that the U.S. no longer had a frontier.

1915-1970: The second 100-million increase in the U.S. population was more rapid than the first 100-million increase. During this 55-year period, the population increased to 205 million.

1970: U.S. population growth changed dramatically after 1970 when Congress forced an increase in legal immigration population growth. In the 1970's, Congress forced the immigration levels up from the traditional 250,000 per year to 425,000 per year.

1980: In the 1980's, Congress forced the legal immigration level up from 425,000 per year to 635,000 per year.

1990: Congress passed new legislation that increased the annual rate of legal immigration from 635,000 per year up to more than 1 million each year through the present year.

The third 100-million increase in the size of the U.S. population was during the 40-year period between 1970 and 2010 when the U.S. population reached around 310 million because Congress continued its pattern of failing to address and correct its unsustainable immigration policy.

The fourth 100-million increase in the size of the U.S. population will happen during the 30 years between 2010 and 2040 when the U.S. population will increase to around 405 million according to current U.S. Census Bureau projections of fertility and mortality rates.

In 2050, the U.S. population will number 437 million according to Census Bureau data and projections.

The population projection for 2050 would be 260 million instead of 437 million if Congress had not acted beginning in 1970 to force an increase in traditional legal immigration levels according to the Census Bureau data and projections.

The fifth 100-million increase in the size of the U.S. population will happen in the 30 years between 2040 and 2070 when it will reach about 505 million according to Census Bureau data and projections.

The sixth 100-million increase in the size of the U.S. population will happen during the 30 years sometime between 2070 and 2100 because the U.S. population will hit 625,000 before 2100 according to Census Bureau data and projections.

These numbers approach a ½ Billion increase in the size of the U.S. population from 205 million in 1970 to 625 million sometime before 2100.

These numbers do not include an uncounted (by the U.S. Census Bureau) number of illegal immigrants that are in the U.S. today. These numbers do not include the increase in the size of the population due to illegal immigrants coming into the U.S., new births to those illegal immigrants, and current immigration policy that allows each legal immigrant to bring many of their supposed “relatives” into the U.S. after they arrive here.

According to the Hew Hispanic Center, the number of illegal immigrants that entered the U.S. annually between 2007-2009 was 300,000.

Polls show that during the period 1970-2010, little more than 10% of the U.S. population was in favor of these increases in immigration levels. The American people never asked Congress for these increases in legal immigration.

In 1996, the Clinton administration's National Commission on Sustainability urged big reductions in immigration levels back to more traditional levels of about 250,000 per year as it was during the 200 years from 1790-1970. The commission urged Congress to pass legislation to make big reductions in the legal immigration levels in order to allow the U.S. population to stabilize so that we could be a sustainable society. Congress ignored those recommendations.

In the U.S., chain migration partially explains why legal immigration has quadrupled from about 250,000 per year between 1790 and 1970 to more than 1 million per year today. U.S. chain migration policy is one of the major causes of the current immigrant population explosion in the U.S.

In 1986, the U.S. Congress gave amnesty to an estimated 3 million illegal immigrants. After the amnesty, those former illegal aliens began to import supposed “relatives” into the U.S. under the U.S. chain migration laws. In turn supposed “relatives” that eventually became naturalized citizens imported their supposed “relatives” under the chain migration laws.

If the U.S. Senate passes the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act bill (the DREAM Act) next week, Dec 13-17, 2010, millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. will receive amnesty. Afterwards, those millions of amnestied former illegal aliens will begin importing supposed “relatives” under the chain migration laws. Chain migration creates a snowball effect and accelerates the explosion in the size of the U.S. population.

The Census Bureau population projection of 625 million before the year 2100 does not include the number of illegal immigrants that enter the U.S. each year and does not include births to those illegal immigrants; nor do the projections include population growth due to the current U.S. immigration policy of chain migration that allows legal immigrants to bring many “relatives” into the U.S. after they arrive in the U.S.

The Census Bureau projections include population growth due to legal immigration and births to legal immigrants.

HOWEVER, THE PROJECTIONS AVOID THE INCLUSION OF POPULATION INCREASES DUE TO THE FOLLOWING:

(1) POPULATION GROWTH DUE TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
(2) POPULATION GROWTH DUE TO AMNESTIES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS.
(3) POPULATION GROWTH DUE TO CHAIN MIGRATION OF SUPPOSED “RELATIVES” OF AMNESTIED FORMER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
(4) BIRTHS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND BIRTHS TO AMNESTIED FORMER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

Illegal immigrants in the U.S. hide from authorities. An accurate count of them does not appear in the Census count. Estimates of their population range from a conservative 11 million to 23 million. The U.S. government prefers to use the conservative estimate.

Based on these Census Bureau projections and considering the number of illegal immigrants that enter the U.S. each year, births to those illegal immigrants, successive births to the offspring of illegal immigrants, and explosive chain migration, it is reasonable to argue that the U.S population will hit 1 billion sometime within the next 125 - 150 years.

The U.S. Census Bureau’s projection that the population will reach 625 million sometime before the year 2100 is not something that could happen or something that might happen. It is something that will happen if Congress fails to act now to change U.S. immigration policy now.

Today, the following 3 countries have the 3 largest populations:
(1) Communist China (People’s Republic of China): 1.3 billion.
(2) India: 1.2 billion
(3) United States of America: 311 million

An article in USA Today in 2008 predicts that the U.S. population will hit the 1 billion mark by 2100.

Americans living in the year 2100 will have no choice in this matter. We do.

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (Democrat, CA) plans to vote YES next week for passage of the DREAM Act.
U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (Democrat, CA) plans to vote YES next week for passage of the DREAM Act.

Call the offices of both U.S. senators everyday between now through the moment when members of the U.S. Senate start voting on the DREAM Act sometime next week beginning on Monday, Dec 13.

Tell the senators to OPPOSE the CLOTURE VOTE. Tell them that if the cloture vote passes to VOTE NO on the DREAM Act amnesty.

(The purpose of a cloture vote is to determine whether there are enough senators that would want to debate a bill and then after the debate to move forward to a final vote. When the Senate has a cloture vote, it votes on whether to go ahead and have a debate about a bill. If a cloture vote fails to pass, then the bill dies, there is no debate, and there is no final vote. The bill is dead. If a Senate cloture vote passes, then the Senate begins debating the various provisions in the bill, and after the debate, there is a final vote. If the final vote passes the bill, it becomes law. If the DREAM Act bill were to pass the cloture vote next week, there would be a debate on the bill. After the debate, there would be a final vote. The final vote could take place on the same day after the end of the cloture vote, possibly beginning minutes after the end of the cloture vote. If the final vote were to pass the DREAM Act amnesty bill, millions of illegal aliens would receive an amnesty.)

For the past couple of weeks, 10’s of thousands of illegal immigrants, their supporters, and banks of paid phone callers across the country have made 10’s of thousands of phone calls to the offices of Feinstein, Boxer, and other Members of Congress to say to them to vote YES on the DREAM Act amnesty. Whether the DREAM Act amnesty dies or passes could depend simply on whether there are more callers that say vote NO to kill the DREAM Act or say vote YES to pass it.

Call the office (phone numbers at bottom of post) of each senator and tell the staffer that answers the phone that you want the senator to vote NO on the cloture vote, and if the Senate passes the cloture vote, that you want the senator to vote NO on the DREAM Act amnesty. If the office is closed, leave a clear voice mail message stating that you want the senator to vote NO to kill the DREAM Act.

Additionally, it is best to phone other senators' offices even if you do not live in the state that elected them to the Senate. NumbersUSA website has a list on its website of the senators that it is best to call and tell to vote NO on the DREAM Act amnesty.
