LIFE IN AMERICA WHERE THE RICH ARE ONLY GETTING MUCH, MUCH MUCH RICHER! - 9-year-old girl cries to virtual class that she's 'starving,' local food bank steps in

Growing number of Americans going hungry during Covid pandemic

NBC News' Jacob Ward reports from a food bank in San Francisco on the growing number of Americans facing economic and food hardships.

9-year-old girl cries to virtual class that she's 'starving,' local food bank steps in

Samantha Kubota

A 9-year-old girl living in the Jersey Shore area broke down in her virtual class and told her class she was “starving,” a local food bank said.

Fulfill, a food bank based in New Jersey, told TODAY Food they got a call from the school district social worker who explained the girl had been having trouble concentrating and started to cry “uncontrollably.”

"When asked what was wrong, she confessed in front of her entire class that she was starving,” Linda Kellner, the director of external affairs for Fulfill, said. “It’s just all so heart-wrenching and frankly, very very courageous of this little girl.”

Kellner said learned the girl’s mother had lost her job at a local restaurant at the onset of the pandemic and the entire family — the mom and three kids — “was hungry.”

Fulfill helped get them food as well as grocery store gift cards. Kellner said they also helped the mother, who does not wish to be identified, sign up for food stamps and healthcare for the kids.

They were able to find the mom a new job as a dishwasher and Fulfill is assisting her with “exploring other opportunities” for employment for a longer-term solution. Since the story went locally viral, Kellner said, they've had tons of job offers for her.

“We’re looking to stabilize the family with the resources they need,” she explained, adding donor support for the family after local news coverage has helped them purchase the kids some new winter clothes and footwear.

Since the onset of the pandemic a year ago, Kellner said Fulfill has seen a 40% increase in the demand for food. They now serve 215,000 people at the Jersey Shore, including 70,000 children.

Related: One county in Massachusetts has experienced a projected 168 percent increase in child hunger since 2018.

“It’s definitely on the rise and we don’t see this going away anytime soon,” she said. “The Jersey Shore is so dependent on the restaurant and hospitality industry … that we think it’s going to be quite a while before we recover.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with other federal agencies, reported in July that child food insufficiency was on the rise. Food insufficiency is when households report they sometimes or often did not have enough to eat in the past seven days.

The rate of child food insufficiency grew from a national average of 17.4% of American households during June 4-9 to 19.9% by the week of July 16-21.

In December, federal surveys showed that 11.4% of adult Americans were either sometimes or often left without enough to eat in the past week.

According to Feeding America, the country's largest anti-hunger organization, more than 50 million people living in the United States were likely to experience food insecurity between October and late December of last year, including 17 million children. That amounts to 1 in 6 Americans and 1 in 4 children — an increase of nearly 50% over 2019.

Related: In the Bronx, New York City's poorest borough, 50% of food pantries and soup kitchens closed during the pandemic.

"We'd like to remind people that there are a lot of other kids in this same position that fit this bill … it's a sad situation but there are a lot of other sad situations," Karla Bardinas, a spokesperson for Fulfill, added. "It's tremendous how this story has touched so many people. I think it's just the thought of how this little girl … how desperate she would have to be to say that in front of her classmates."

As for Kellner, she said stories like this are the reason she comes to work every day.

“Think of being this 9-year-old little girl so consumed by hunger that you can’t think about reading, math or writing,” she said. “All you’re thinking about is that pain in your stomach. That really is what keeps me up at night.”

LOOKS LIKE TRUMP IS HEADED FOR JAIL - UNLESS PUTIN OFFERS ASYLUM AT HIS PALACE ON THE SEA BUILT WITH THE BILLIONS HE STOLE FROM THE RUSSIAN PEOPLE

MSNBC’s Deutsch: ‘I Really Believe’ Trump Goes to Jail

Volume 90%

Friday, MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch predicted former President Donald Trump would end up in jail as a result of his lengthy legal battle over his tax returns.

Deutsch, noting how “shady” real estate guys are, said on “Morning Joe” that Trump has always played “outside the lines.” He added jail will be the “final act” for the former president.

“Yeah, [Trump] is worried,” Deutsch said.

“You know, real estate guys, to begin with, are shady just in the way they do business, most of them — I hate to say that for my real estate friends watching — but Donald Trump is by far the bottom of the barrel. Anything that you can do as far as playing outside the lines, this guy has done throughout his entire life,” Deutsch stated. “They’re going to take him apart, you know. And if you just think about the mindset of a federal person or a local person or any law enforcement type person who works at a relatively, you know, small salary, they live for these moments. Here’s a guy who pretended he was bigger than the house. Here’s a guy that literally tried to take down who we are. Nobody is going to approach this … with a soft knife if you will. So, expect Donald Trump to spend the rest of his life fighting or in jail. I don’t mean life in jail, but I really believe that’s where it ends for him. I mean, I know it’s hard for people to see that, but I really believe he ends up behind bars. I think that is the final act of this really, really repulsive opera we have been watching.”

Navalny vs. Putin: The Next Round

Alexei Navalny has been getting under Putin’s skin for a long time, and recently things came to a head.  In January 2021, the Navalny Channel on YouTube featured the protest film, Dvorets dlya Putina: Istoriya Samoy Bol’shoy Bzyatki (Putin’s Palace: History of the World’s Biggest Bribe), an immensely popular exposé since viewed 113,654,953 times.

To counter the notable lack of reporting by the Russian press on Navalny’s mistreatment at the hands of the Putin regime, the film begins with this précis:  “In August 2020, on the order of Vladimir Putin, Navalny was poisoned with Novichok chemical warfare agent.  He survived, came back to Russia, and was arrested right at the airport.  On January 18, 2021, the court unlawfully arrested Alexey Navalny and sent him to Matrosskaya Tishina Prison.”  An invitation to protest followed:  “For many years, Navalny has been fighting for our rights.  Now, it’s time for us to fight for him.  On January 23, at 14:00, take to the main streets of your cities.  Don’t stand on the sidelines.”  Marches to protest Navalny’s wrongful poisoning, arrest, and imprisonment would indeed be held by his supporters on Saturday January 23, all over Russia.  One pollster estimated the crowd in Moscow alone to number 35,000.

Next, Navalny himself appears saying, “Hi, Navalny here.  We came up with this investigation when I was in intensive care, but we immediately agreed that we would release it when I returned home, to Russia, to Moscow, because we do not want the main character of this film to think that we are afraid of him so that I would tell about his worst secret while I was abroad.  One of the most devoted admirers of our work, the same one on whose orders I was poisoned, is Vladimir Putin.  He is definitely watching this now, and his heart is filling with nostalgia.”  Navalny proceeds to take a trip through Putin’s past, beginning at the building on Radeberger Strasse in Dresden where the early corruption schemes of then-KGB agent Vladimir Putin and his cronies were conceived, “by those who would later arrange the biggest robbery in the history of Russia -- simply, to steal all the national wealth.”  Navalny illustrates this point using material from Putin’s actual case file from Germany’s Stasi archives.

The rest of the film consists of a flyover of Putin’s pleasure palace in Krasnodar Krai, accomplished by launching a drone from a boat offshore to film the “legendary footage” of the edifice, a massive, 190,424 square foot castle on a promontory in Gelendzhik, near Sochi overlooking the Black Sea.  Navalny also homes in on numerous tarps and plywood and other humiliating proof that the building was badly constructed, leading to mold, leaky ceilings, and other problems.  “They literally threw billions into the trash and have now started over.”

For all of the above reasons, Putin has been livid and intent on some sort of retaliation.  In early February, videos in support of Putin suddenly began appearing on social networks.  The footage was shot in numerous regions as instructed by the presidential administration and as organized by Putin’s political party United Russia.

The sites for these videos were carefully chosen.  One location was Barnaul, a city in Siberia where their  pro-Navalny protest on January 23 is said to have been the city’s largest political rally in 15 years.  The Instagram video supposedly showed an “All-Russian Flash Mob in Support of Putin!”  The “flash mob” in question consisted of young workers of the Barnaul ATI chemical plant in matching bright blue overalls and face masks, standing at attention and waving Russian flags. Another supposed “rally for Putin,” this time of state employees and schoolchildren, was assembled to shoot a video in Volgograd.  Both groups had been told they were to be part of a music video for the Russian rock group Lyube (IPA).  They were not demonstrating for Putin, who was not even mentioned.

The students of Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSLA) were invited to participate in a flash mob in support of Russia “as a leader in the fight against COVID” on February 5, promised that the video would be shown on the internet and on TV, and that each participant would be awarded a letter of thanks before the State Duma legislature.  According to the students who participated, shooting took place in a Moscow hotel.  They were asked to wave flags while reading the following text from a teleprompter:  “We have one president.  We will defeat the virus with him.  We have one president.  Together, we will win.  Vladimir Vladimirovich, we are with you!  Putin is our president!”  The Dozhd television channel published a photograph of the teleprompt slide.  An MSLA graduate revealed that some students refused to participate but would not speak with the reporter directly for fear of sanctions from the university.  They claim that the school administration was unaware that students were “deceived by the organizers from the State Duma.”

A third film clip was taken at Belgorod’s Institute of Arts and Culture (BGIIK).  The BGIIK students were asked merely to “dance with Russian flags to record a patriotic video.”  Later they were shocked to see their dance on Instagram with the hashtag #PutinNashPresident (#PutinOurPresident).  According to the students, a song praising Putin followed by youthful voices, shouting “Putin is our president!” and “Vladimir Vladimirovich, we are with you!” were dubbed in.  According to the students, they said no such things.  The incident led to a scandal.  Their parents complained that their children had not been warned that the video was being staged to show support for the president, and that they had not shouted the words in the video.  On February 8, the local newspaper Belgorod No. 1 published a transcript of a conversation in which the BGIIK Vice-Rector Natalya Baranichenko and Rector Sergei Kurgan apologized to the students.  Baranichenko, who had organized the filming, was made to resign.  She has not worked at BGIIK since February 10 and the leadership page on the BGIIK website no longer mentions the former vice-rector.

This pathetic ruse on the part of Putin, his administration, and United Russia serves only to demonstrate the popularity gap between Navalny and Putin -- one, inspiring tens of thousands of ordinary Russians to risk arrest and take to the streets, and the other, reduced to fabricating bogus “rallies” of supposed “supporters” in lieu of same.

California is joining the Joe Biden

administration in welcoming immigrants inside the country based on asylum claims. The state plans to dedicate up to $28 million to provide “quarantine hotel rooms,” medical care, and other services.

The California Department of Finance issued a memo on Thursday announcing the aid for foreigners, even as the state’s citizens and their jobs and businesses are suffering because of coronavirus restrictions.

The Department said it would make the money available to migrants entering through the San Ysidro port of entry near San Diego, California, where they will  quarantine for seven to 10 days.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the development:

Tens of thousands of largely Central American asylum seekers are stuck in Mexico under a 2019 policy adopted by former President Donald Trump that forced them wait outside the U.S. for the duration of their immigration proceedings.

President Biden reversed that order this month, allowing migrants with credible asylum claims to enter the country while their cases are considered, as has historically been the approach.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has started to let 25 people through the San Ysidro port of entry each day, according to the state Department of Finance memo, with a goal of eventually processing up to 300 people per day.

The Chronicle reported H.D. Palmer, a spokesperson for the finance department, said California was “stepping in to help the Biden administration implement its ‘far more humane’ immigration policy because of the additional challenges of the pandemic.”

Palmer said he hopes that the federal government will reimburse the state.

“We now have a situation that has not existed in recent years where the state government and the federal government are rowing in the same direction,” Palmer said. “We are doing what we can on the front end to make sure this is done seamlessly.”

Study: Amnesty Will Cost ‘Hundreds of Billions’

President Joe Biden’s amnesty plan will spike Social Security spending by “hundreds of billions” over the next few decades, according to a forecast by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS).

The February 22 report, titled “Amnesty Would Cost the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds Hundreds of Billions of Dollars,” says:

The new taxes paid by the average amnesty recipient amount to only half of the $94,500 noted above. The net effect of amnesty is therefore $140,330 [in Social Security benefits] minus $47,250 [in paid taxes], which is about $93,000 per recipient. In any large-scale amnesty, in which millions of illegal immigrants gain legal status, it is easy to see how the net cost could reach into the hundreds of billions of dollars.

The predicted $93,000 per person cost would be a financial burden for taxpayers — but would be a giveaway to business groups because the Social Security payments will be converted into purchases of consumer products, healthcare services, medical drugs, apartments, and food.

At least 11 million people — perhaps 20 million — are living illegally in the United States. The number rises as people overstay their visas, evade deportation orders, or sneak over the border — but it also falls as some migrants get deported, leave, or find ways to get green cards via the rolling “Adjustment of Status” process.

But taxpayers’ expenses are also economic gains for business groups and investors. In January 2020, a coalition of business groups sued deputies for President Donald Trump after he reduced the inflow of poor migrants into the U.S. consumer market, saying:

Because [green-card applicants] will receive fewer public benefits under the Rule, they will cut back their consumption of goods and services, depressing demand throughout the economy …

The New American Economy Research Fund calculates that, on top of the $48 billion in income that is earned by individuals who will be affected by the Rule—and that will likely be removed from the U.S. economy—the Rule will cause an indirect economic loss of more than $33.9 billion … Indeed, the Fiscal Policy Institute has estimated that the decrease in SNAP and Medicaid enrollment under the Rule could, by itself, lead to economic ripple effects of anywhere between $14.5 and $33.8 billion, with between approximately 100,000 and 230,000 jobs lost … Health centers alone would be forced to drop as many as 6,100 full-time medical staff.

CIS promised a more detailed report:

This is just a rough estimate. We are currently working on a detailed model that will provide more precise costs for both Social Security and Medicare. Again, however, any reasonable calculation will produce a large cost, simply because amnesty will convert so many outside contributors into actual beneficiaries.

For years, a wide variety of pollsters have shown deep and broad opposition to labor migration and to the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.

The multiracialcross-sexnon-racistclass-basedintra-Democratic, and solidarity-themed opposition to labor migration coexists with generally favorable personal feelings toward legal immigrants and toward immigration in theory — despite the media magnification of many skewed polls and articles that still push the 1950’s corporate “Nation of Immigrants” claim.

The deep public opposition is built on the widespread recognition that migration moves money from employees to employers, from families to investors, from young to old, from children to their parents, from homebuyers to real estate investors, and from the central states to the coastal states.

However, Biden’s officials have been broadcasting their desire to change border policies to help extract more migrants from Central America for the U.S. economy. On February 19, for example, deputies of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas posted a tweet offering support to migrants illegally working in the United States and to migrants who may wish to live in the United States.

Coyotes will deliver perhaps 13,000 foreign children and job-seeking teenagers to the U.S. border in May, according to a leaked report to Axios.com.

But the leak is intended to be a “self-fulfilling prophecy,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies.

President Joe Biden’s officials, she said, are leaking the warnings even as they strip President Donald Trump’s border protection because they want to create “a perpetual crisis that will normalize the flow of large numbers of people.”

“Having a huge number of people who are showing up at the southern border is one of the justifications that they will put forward for letting them in,” she added.

The policy of “extraction migration” from Central America is harming Americans’ communities and migrant-sending countries while also enriching the trafficking networks that deliver the adult and child migrants into the U.S. consumer economy, she said.

Biden’s progressive deputies “are oblivious to the reality that their pet policies are enriching criminal smuggling organizations, dislocating communities in these countries, and putting children at risk,” she said.

Axios.com reported February 26:

A Customs and Border Protection staffer [from the department of Homeland Security, DHS] told top administration officials Thursday the agency is projecting a peak of 13,000 unaccompanied [sic] children crossing the border in May, sources directly familiar with the discussion told Axios.

“CBP chief of staff Lise Clavel provided the border-crossing projection.” Clavel is a former campaign staffer for Beto O’Rourke and Mike Bloomberg, and a former manager at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The predicted 13,000 young migrants are in addition to the large inflows of single adult migrants and the “family unit” migrants.

The 13,000 young migrants are legally described as “Unaccompanied Alien Children,” even though they are accompanied by paid coyotes from their homes to the border, and even though many are older teenagers seeking U.S. jobs.

Biden’s welcome is encouraging coyotes to bring more of the “UACs” to the border. In the first four months of 2020, 12,000 UACs were delivered by coyotes. The first four months of 2021 showed a 64 percent rise to almost 20,000 deliveries.

During the Thursday meeting, officials talked about reopening Trump-era facilities to help process the migrants legally into the United States, said the Axios report.

Biden’s progressive officials are willing to reopen Trump-era facilities — despite TV-magnified theatrical jeers from migration advocates and from right-of-center news outlets — that Biden is reviving Trump’s “kid in cage” policies. But Biden is using the processing facilities to provide the migrants with residency documents, work permits, and legal paperwork so they can win permanent residency to compete for jobs, homes, and resources needed by Americans.

For example, Reuters reported February 25:

On Monday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reopened an emergency shelter in Texas and is also considering reopening a controversial facility in Florida, a sign of the scramble to find housing for the children. Shelter capacity was greatly reduced due to coronavirus social distancing, and existing facilities are close to full.

HHS, which oversees shelters for migrant children, is in the process of switching to a new database that could cut hours or days from the time it takes to perform background checks for sponsors, said a department official who requested anonymity to discuss internal operations.

The report by Axios noted “there was no discussion [at the Thursday meeting] of U.S.-based policies or practices that would work to deter migrants, such as reinstating the use of an emergency public health order to quickly deport migrant kids.”

The projected 13,000 migrants in May are usually described as “kids” by pro-migration media outlets, but most are job-seeking teenagers, said Vaughan:

There a couple of different things we know about this population. One is that they often are the children of adults who are already living in the country illegally who pays a smuggler to bring their kids here, especially when they are old enough to also work.

Most of them are teens, aged 17 or 18, Some are older and are pretending to be 17.

In addition, they are kids who have been sent by their families back in Central America to join family or friends who are already here, to get settled in the hope that the parents and the rest of the family team come join them later, or at least, that this teenager — who’s expected to help support the family — will be able to send back earnings.

“Honestly, I think almost everyone in the system knows that most of the [migrant] teens are coming to work and send money back home,” Maria Woltjen, executive director and founder of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, told a reporter for ProPublica. “They want to help their parents,” she told ProPublica for a November 2020 article:

Around Urbana-Champaign, the home of the University of Illinois, school district officials say children and adolescents lay shingles, wash dishes and paint off-campus university apartments. In New Bedford, Massachusetts, an indigenous Guatemalan labor leader has heard complaints from adult workers in the fish-packing industry who say they’re losing their jobs to 14-year-olds. In Ohio, teenagers work in dangerous chicken plants.

Though most of the teens interviewed for this story are now 18, they agreed to speak on the condition that they not be fully identified and that their employers not be named because they feared losing their jobs, harming their immigration cases or facing criminal penalties.

Some began to work when they were just 13 or 14, packing the candy you find by the supermarket register, cutting the slabs of raw meat that end up in your freezer and baking, in industrial ovens, the pastries you eat with your coffee. Garcia, who is 18 now, was 15 when he got his first job at an automotive parts factory.

“Teachers will tell you the same thing,” Vaughan said. “Most of the boys show up in October when the landscaping season is over, and they stay in school until about April, and then they drop out again to go back to work in the landscaping companies.”

The UAC pipeline is safe for the teenagers once the coyotes complete the UAC hand-off to Biden’s border agencies. Before the hand-off, the journey can be very deadly.

On January 30, the Los Angeles Times reported the death of roughly 13 teenagers who entered the Hunger Games obstacle course, including 15-year-old Robelson Isidro. Gunmen reportedly killed the victims, and their bodies left in a burned-out pickup truck:

The [Guatemalan] community has a long history of sending migrants to the United States, and he had uncles who lived there. They had indoor kitchens. They didn’t have to cook outside under a tarp.

“He was ashamed,” his mother said in a phone interview. She said he told her: “I’m going to fight to make my dreams come true. I have to get my siblings ahead in life. I’m going to get them out of poverty.”

His uncles [in the United States had] wired him money to make the journey north.

“The administration is trying to justify its lenient border policies as humanitarianism,” said Vaughan. “But they are facilitating a trade of children who are being trafficked here openly  … nothing could be more immoral.”

“The media are bailing them out,” Vaughan added.  “When [White House spokeswoman] Jen Psaki gets flustered about having to defend these policies, commentators will jump in and say, ‘Oh, but you’re reuniting families.'”

“It’s not going to stop the flow; it’s just going to launder it … Every policy they adopt is actually incentivizing more people to come,” Vaughn said.

For years, a wide variety of pollsters have shown deep and broad opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs sought by young U.S.

Feds to Bus, Fly Surge of Biden’s Migrants to U.S. Homes

President Joe Biden’s deputies will bypass the media’s clickbait focus on border-backlogged “kids in cages” by simply flying and bussing more Central American migrants to homes through the United States.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) told Breitbart News that its Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has:

…authorized programs to pay transport fees for unaccompanied children (including airline tickets), including escort transport (where necessary by airline or ORR policy) in order to facilitate release of children to approved sponsors.

ORR care providers are authorized to use program funds to purchase airline tickets in the event that a sponsor is not able to pay fees associated with commercial airfare, and a child’s physical release would be otherwise delayed.

“This isn’t about a backlog,” said Rosemary Jenks, policy director at NumbersUSA. She continued:

This is about Biden’s policies creating a border surge … They’re getting exactly what we all knew they were going to get which is more people coming across, including more unaccompanied children. So now they’re trying to figure out what to do with them because you know AOC [Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (D-NY)] and others are so unhappy with their “kids in containers” policy that they’ve got to fly them away from the border so nobody notices them.

“The administration wants open borders — they want anyone from around the world to come here as fast as they possibly can,” she said. But the resulting rush of migrants is forcing officials to hide the unpopular migration as it arrives at the border.

The surge of migrants will not be easy to hide, she added. “Former President Obama knows that because when he was flying the unaccompanied children all over the country, all hell broke loose and governors started complaining, and citizens started complaining. I don’t see how anyone with a memory .. would call that a win.”

On February 23, the Washington Times reported:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is scrambling to find bigger airplanes and figure out more ground transport capacity for soaring numbers of illegal immigrants, and is even talking with a company that runs “Man Camps” for oil workers in Texas to see whether it will rent bed space for the incoming wave of illegal immigrants.

New Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told ICE that cost is no issue, and to cancel contracts and sign new ones without worry about the price tag, according to the email from ICE Chief of Staff Timothy Perry. Mr. Mayorkas said he is also pondering diverting money from the border wall “to backfill budgets later,” the email said.

“ICE should increase the cadence of its transport and arrange for individuals to complete their processing and ATD’ing at processing centers north of the border,” he wrote. ATD, or Alternatives to Detention, means those migrants will be released into communities with conditions like regular check-ins with officers.

Meanwhile, the pro-migration advocates who slammed Trump because of the 2018 and 2019 congestion at the border stations are giving Biden a political pass. The Washington Post reported February 25:

“The word I would preach here is patience,” said J. Kevin Appleby, a board member at the Hope Border Institute, an immigrant aid organization in El Paso. “Everyone expects automatic results and automatic change. But it’s going to take time to reverse what Trump did.”

Biden’s officials have been broadcasting their desire to refocus the border agencies on helping to extract more migrants from Central America for the U.S. economy.

On February 19, for example, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ deputies posted a tweet offering support to migrants illegally working in the United States and to migrants who may wish to live in the United States.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials are warning of an illegal immigration crisis at the United States-Mexico border as President Joe Biden continues unraveling border controls that slowed the flow of foreign nationals over the last year.

Internal communications at DHS, reported by the Washington Post and the Washington Times, reveal that agency officials are seemingly concerned that illegal immigration will continue ticking upwards while Biden keeps lifting migration controls.

The Post reported:

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement email obtained by The Washington Post shows that the administration has already entered crisis mode on the southern border. [Emphasis added]

“We need to prepare for border surges now,” Timothy Perry, ICE’s new chief of staff, wrote in a Feb. 12 email. “We need to begin making changes immediately.” [Emphasis added]

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told senior officials “to prepare for border surges now,” Perry wrote. “We need to begin making changes immediately. We should privilege action over cost considerations; do what is needed, and the department will work on funding afterward.” [Emphasis added]

To prevent the appearance of a crisis — with crowded holding facilities and overwhelmed federal agents — DHS and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) are reportedly flying foreign nationals arriving at the southern border into cities across the U.S.

Biden, since taking office in late January, has ended the Remain in Mexico policy, restarted the Catch and Release program, and canceled cooperative asylum agreements with Central America.

The result has been a surge of illegal immigration to the southern border and mass releases of border crossers into the U.S. interior — many without being required to test negative for the Chinese coronavirus. In January, for example, border apprehensions jumped nearly 160 percent and marked the highest level of illegal immigration for the month since January 2006.

The surge, thus far, has pushed the Biden administration to open a holding facility in Carizzo Springs, Texas, that will hold up to 700 Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs). Likewise, DHS is opening a facility in Donna, Texas.

Biden’s opening of the facilities near the border comes after he spent his 2020 presidential campaign denouncing former President Trump for detaining border crossers in facilities rather than freeing them into the U.S. interior.

“Close them down!” Biden said in August 2019 of the facilities.

Republican voters are more concerned about illegal immigration to the United States than any other issue, including the economic damage caused by the Chinese coronavirus crisis, a new survey reveals.

survey by Echelon Insights finds that above all other issues, illegal immigration concerns Republican voters the most.

When asked to rank issues by level of concern, nearly 6-in-10 Republicans said they are “extremely concerned” about illegal immigration, while 22 percent said they are “very concerned.” Another seven percent of Republicans said they are “somewhat concerned” about illegal immigration.

The second most concerning issue to Republicans is anti-law enforcement rhetoric. About 59 percent said they were extremely concerned about the issue, 20 percent said they were very concerned, and 14 percent said they were somewhat concerned.

The two issues, along with higher taxes on the middle class and liberal bias in the establishment media, are more concerning to Republican voters than even the economic damage spurred by the coronavirus crisis.

Republican voters’ concerns over illegal immigration come as President Joe Biden has ended the Remain in Mexico policy, restarted the Catch and Release program, and canceled cooperative asylum agreements with Central America.

The results have been a surge of illegal immigration at the southern border, amounting to a nearly 160 percent increase in border apprehensions compared to last year, and mass releases of border crossers into the U.S. interior without coronavirus testing requirements.

Likewise, Biden has issued memos that have dismantled interior immigration enforcement. The policies are likely to prevent 9-in-10 deportations of illegal aliens, creating a “sanctuary country” policy that shields most illegal aliens from arrest.

The Biden administration’s latest measure includes flying border crossers into the U.S. interior to undisclosed American cities where they are unlikely to be deported even if they are found to have an illegitimate asylum claim.

The survey included 1,005 U.S. voters and was conducted from February 12 to 18.

Ted Cruz: ‘Criminals, Murderers, Rapists’ Entering on Biden’s ‘Most Radical Immigration Plan Proposed in History’

Immigrants prepare to be set free from the Adelanto Detention Facility on November 15, 2013 in Adelanto, California. Sen. Ted Cruz issued a stunning rebuke on Thursday of President Joe Biden’s “most radical immigration plan any administration has ever proposed in history.”

“They have proposed allowing every single person who was deported from this country for the last four years to come back. And by the way,” Cruz explained, “they don’t make exceptions for criminals, for murderers, for rapists. I mean, it is utterly bizarre to have a federal administration refusing to enforce the law against violent criminals.”

Cruz noted, “And frankly, it makes, it makes our country more dangerous…”

“We are a nation of immigrants and there are wonderful people who come here and come here legally. There’s a right way to come,” the Texas senator said. “But today’s Democratic Party has been radicalized where they’re you know, they’re not even willing to enforce the law against violent criminals who are committing horrific crimes.”

Cruz’s comments come amid a federal judge blocking Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from implementing a halt on deportations, a blow to the administration’s efforts to dismantle interior immigration enforcement.

Hours after taking office on January 20, Biden’s administration issued a memo that sought to halt most deportations of illegal aliens for at least 100 days. As a result, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit requesting a preliminary injunction on the “unlawful” deportation halt.

On Wednesday, United States District Judge Drew B. Tipton granted the preliminary injunction, which prevents the Biden administration from implementing the deportation halt until the U.S. Southern District of Texas District Court, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, or the U.S. Supreme Court resolves the case.

Dale Wilcox with the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) said Tipton’s blockage of the deportation halt “should hold up on appeal” and called Biden’s memo a “bizarre and sinister attempt to shutter our entire immigration law enforcement system.

Joe Biden Restarts Filling U.S. Jobs with Foreign Workers as 17M Americans Are Jobless

President Joe Biden has restarted allowing companies to fill scarce U.S. jobs with foreign workers after a major lobbying effort by big business interests, even as more than 17 million Americans remain jobless.

In April 2020, former President Donald Trump signed an executive order halting a number of employment-based and extended family-based green card categories. The order sought to reduce foreign labor market competition against millions of Americans facing joblessness and underemployment as a result of the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

Two months ago, Trump renewed the order prioritizing unemployed Americans for U.S. jobs while nearly 18 million were unemployed at the time. Corporate interests fiercely opposed the order because the nation’s current legal immigration levels help them increase profit margins while cutting overall wage costs.

On Wednesday, Biden revoked the order after lobbying from tech corporations and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who have sought to continue importing foreign workers rather than recruiting unemployed Americans for jobs.

Biden claims the order “does not advance the interests” of Americans because it does not continue the process known as “chain migration” — whereby newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the country — and prevented foreign nationals from arriving in the U.S. through the Diversity Visa Lottery in which new arrivals are randomly chosen.

In his revocation, Biden also went to bat for corporate interests who hire foreign workers over qualified Americans, claiming the order “harms industries in the U.S. that utilize talent from around the world.”

While Biden allows companies to begin filling scarce U.S. jobs with foreign workers again, about 17.1 million Americans are jobless and another six million are underemployed but all want full-time jobs with competitive wages and generous benefits.

Of those considered unemployed, 1.5 million are teenagers, 930,00 are black Americans, 870,000 are Hispanics, 666,600 are Asian Americans, and 576,000 are white Americans. About 3.5 million of those unemployed are permanent job losers.

A second order signed by Trump, set to expire next month, has halted the admission of H-1B, H-4, H-2B, L, and J-1 foreign visa workers since June 2020. White House officials have suggested that they will not renew the order.

Biden’s actions come even as the majority of U.S. likely voters support labor market protections. The latest survey from Rasmussen Reports, for instance, finds that 73 percent of voters want less legal immigration, more than six-in-ten oppose chain migration, about 64 percent oppose businesses importing foreign workers rather than recruiting Americans, and 63 percent support slowing down or fully cutting U.S. population growth driven by immigration.

Research by the Center for Immigration Studies’ Steven Camarota reveals that for every one percent increase in the immigrant portion of an American workers’ occupation, Americans’ weekly wages are cut by perhaps 0.5 percent. This means the average native-born American worker today has his weekly wages reduced by potentially 8.75 percent as more than 17 percent of the workforce is foreign-born.

Current immigration levels put downward pressure on U.S. wages while redistributing about $500 billion in wealth away from America’s working and middle class and towards employers and new arrivals, research by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine has found.

Similarly, peer-reviewed research by economist Christoph Albert acknowledges that “as immigrants accept lower wages, they are preferably chosen by firms and therefore have higher job finding rates than natives, consistent with evidence found in U.S. data.” Albert’s research also finds that immigration “raises competition” for native-born Americans in the labor market.

Every year, about 1.2 million legal immigrants are rewarded with green cards to permanently resettle in the U.S., and another 1.4 million foreign nationals are given temporary visas. In addition, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are added to the U.S. population annually.

Jen Psaki Blames Trump Administration for Current Migrant Crisis

White House press secretary Jen Psaki blamed former President Donald Trump’s administration Thursday for the growing migrant crisis on the Southern border.

“We’re in the circumstance we’re in because not only was their approach inhumane, it was ineffective,” Psaki told reporters during her daily press briefing.

The left has condemned President Joe Biden for reopening detention camps for the surge of unaccompanied migrants at the Southern border after the president restored “catch and release” policies.

Since Biden won the 2020 election, a surge of unaccompanied minors has been apprehended at the border. In January alone, Customs and Border Protection took almost 6,000 unaccompanied children into custody.

However, Psaki said Trump’s policies were to blame.

“We’re not looking at President Trump or any of his advisors as a model for how we are approaching immigration,” she said, reassuring reporters that the Biden administration would “forge our own path forward” on the issue.

Psaki also blamed the Trump administration for not doing enough to improve the living conditions for people in foreign countries such as El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua

“There are conditions that are in these countries that we have not done enough to help improve,” she said.

Psaki also accused the Trump administration of endangering the unaccompanied children by sending them back to their countries of origin.

“We don’t feel that sending unaccompanied minors, kids, back to take a dangerous journey is the right step to take,” she said.

Typically, the unaccompanied minors during the Trump administration were sent back to their country of origin on a flight escorted by law enforcement officials.

The press secretary reassured critics on the left that the children in the detention camps were being treated humanely before getting released into the United States.

“These kids have been through a trauma, we want to treat them humanely and make sure they are kept safe,” she said.

GRAPHIC EXCLUSIVE: Mexican Authorities Probe Alliance Between Cartels to Hold Turf near Texas

Authorities are investigating the inner workings of a new alliance between two of the most violent cartels in Mexico. Information exclusively confirmed to Breitbart Texas by top security officials suggests Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) and La Linea are joining forces against the Sinaloa Cartel.

Breitbart Texas consulted top Mexican federal law enforcement sources who revealed meetings at the highest levels over concerns that an alliance was appearing to be forged. The allied goal is to stop the spread of factions from the Sinaloa Cartel as they make inroads in the border state of Chihuahua–putting La Linea’s interests near Texas at risk. Preliminary information does not yet specify if the alliance will lead to additional gunmen, weapons, or financial assistance from Jalisco. The turf war in Chihuahua has already led to more than 200 high-impact crimes since the beginning of 2021.

Chihuahua is home to Ciudad Juarez, a border city that once was known as the murder capital of the world after the long history of disputes between the Juarez Cartel (aka La Linea) and the Sinaloa Cartel. In a similar fashion, CJNG is currently considered the biggest rival to the Sinaloa Cartel as the two fight throughout Mexico for turf.

Last week, a fierce shootout between a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel known as Gente Nueva and La Linea led to a gory scene that sparked controversy after gunmen left three severed heads on an SUV. The Gente Nueva faction is currently led by Antonio Leonel “El 300” or “Bin Laden” Camacho Mendoza.

The shootout took place near Jimenez, leaving at least five dead gunmen, shot-up vehicles, and thousands of spent ammunition casings. Members of La Linea leaked video of a gunman severing the heads of fallen rivals while chanting the name of his organization.

Texas Towns Cope with Migrant Wave Not Tested for Coronavirus

President Joe Biden’s deputies are dropping many poor migrants with coronavirus into Americans’ neighborhoods, according to a report in the New York Times.

On February 23, the newspaper reported a statement about the drop-offs they say came from Juan “Trey” Mendez, the mayor of Brownsville:

“If it’s several hundred overnight, then that’s something that would become overwhelming for us,” said Mr. Mendez. “The administration is very well aware of that — we’ve conveyed that on numerous occasions.”

Elsewhere on the border, local officials are decrying the administration’s policy of dumping the poor migrants into Americans’ neighborhoods. CNN reported February 19:

… communities along the border in Texas have expressed concern about migrants being released during the pandemic. McAllen requested thousands of Covid-19 tests from state officials last month after learning migrants were not being tested by CBP.
“To drop them off at our bus station without testing them first? I think that’s irresponsible to not only the border but the whole United States,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.

Biden’s deputies are encouraging the migrants to travel to the U.S. border so they can be released via a variety of legal covers. The covers include asylum applications, the 2015 Flores rule, or the 2008 law for supposedly unaccompanied minors.

Fortune 500 business groups back this progressive policy of extracting young migrants from Central America because it helps deliver more wage-cutting workers, taxpayer-aided consumers, renters, K-12 students, and diversity into the U.S. consumer market.

Even as agency officials release disease-carrying migrants into the United States, they are also claiming they will preserve President Donald Trump’s border protections. On February 19, for example, officials tweeted:

To protect our citizens and prevent the further spread of COVID-19, the United States, Canada, and Mexico are extending the restrictions on non-essential travel at our land borders through March 21.  We are also working to ensure essential trade and travel remain open.

The New York Times described the catch and release end of the migration process:

On Saturday, border agents dropped off a dozen migrants, all mothers and small children, outside the Brownsville bus station. Some said they were held longer than the 72-hour limit that border agents are allowed to detain children. Within minutes, a team of city officials and volunteers had begun setting up a station to test for the coronavirus. With a negative test, they were allowed into the station to continue their journey. If they tested positive, the volunteers used donations to pay for their quarantine at a local hotel — although it was not mandatory. Within three hours, the number of migrants at the station grew to about 50.

Doris, a mother of two boys who fled an abusive former partner in Guatemala and crossed the border in recent weeks, did not expect to be provided testing, blankets or coloring books for her children when she was dropped off on Saturday. “They’re very good people,” she said of the city staff and volunteers.

CNN noted that the Biden migrants are responding to Biden’s incentives:

Edwin Rubio and his family were dropped off at the McAllen bus station on a Wednesday morning in early February. Rubio told CNN they decided to make the trek from Honduras to seek asylum after President Joe Biden was elected. “There will be new laws, new immigration laws that will favor Latinos,” he said.

However, Biden’s officials have been broadcasting their desire to refocus the DHS and USCIS on helping to extract more migrants from Central America for the U.S. economy. On February 19, for example, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ deputies posted a tweet offering support to migrants illegally working in the United States and to migrants who may wish to live in the United States.

Federal Judge Puts Indefinite Hold on Biden’s Plans to Halt Deportations

A federal judge in South Texas indefinitely extended his order stopping the Biden Administration’s plans to halt all deportations for 100 days. The new order effectively blocks President Joe Biden from his promise to temporarily stop deporting criminal migrants.

U.S. District Court Judge Drew Tipton placed an indefinite ban on the enforcement of President Biden’s memorandum ordering the cessation of all deportations for 100 days, Fox News reported. Tipton, a judge in the Southern District of Texas, issued a two-week restraining order after the Texas Attorney General’s Office filed a lawsuit in January claiming Biden’s order was unconstitutional.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton claimed the memorandum signed by President Biden violated an agreement between Texas and the Department of Homeland Security requiring consultation before such a move can be put into action. Paxton also said Biden’s executive order violates federal law.

“The Court’s decision to stop the Biden administration from casting aside congressionally enacted immigration laws is a much-needed remedy for DHS’s unlawful action,” Paxton said in a January statement. “A near-complete suspension of deportations would only serve to endanger Texans and undermine federal law.”

Fox News reported:

The agreement means that DHS must give Texas 180 days’ notice of any proposed change on any matter that would reduce enforcement or increase the number of “removable or inadmissible aliens” in the U.S. Paxton claims that agreement has been violated.

Under the judge’s order, the Biden executive order cannot be implemented by the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

During Fiscal Year 2020, which ended on September 30, 2020, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers deported 185,884 migrants who were ordered removed by a federal immigration judge. Of those, 92 percent had criminal convictions or pending criminal charges. The deportations also include 4,276 known or suspected gang members and 31 known or suspected terrorists, according to a year-end report published by ICE.

EXCLUSIVE: Feds Increase Migrant Releases amid Detention Space Shortages

U.S. Border Patrol issued instructions to begin the immediate release of migrants to avoid overcrowding in temporary holding facilities as ICE struggles to cope with increasing apprehension rates along the southwestern border.

This development follows a short-lived plan to move released migrants further inland to alleviate stress on the typically smaller border communities.

Now, ICE’s ability to transport illegal immigrants further into the United States is strained due to the new influx of migrants appearing in recent weeks, law enforcement sources tell Breitbart Texas.

In the Rio Grande Valley, more than 2,000 asylum seekers were apprehended within the last 48 hours. Sources report that at least 600 family unit members are in custody and cannot be returned to Mexico under the CDC Title 42 COVID-19 emergency order. Border Patrol agents are also struggling with the spike in single adults from Central America and far beyond the Americas.

The Rio Grande Valley has seen a 647% increase in family unit asylum seekers over the course of seven weeks. The peaks are seen across the southern border sectors, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the situation.

Prior to the cancellation the Trump administration’s agreements with Central American countries known as Asylum Cooperation Agreements (ACAs), seekers were swiftly returned to their home country when credible fear interviews disqualified them from further consideration. In addition, the Migrant Protection Protocols, also known as the Remain in Mexico Program, forced the returns of many to await hearing dates in Mexico and therefore avoided release into the United States.

Federal sources tell Breitbart Texas the order was received mid-afternoon today from CBP officials in Washington, D.C. to begin broader migrant releases as suitable detention space and nonprofit alternatives are overwhelmed.

ICE provided the following statement concerning the situation:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) constantly evaluates its posture at Family Residential Centers to meet changing operational needs. Custody determinations are made on a case-by-case basis in accordance with US law and DHS policy. Individuals can be released from custody based on the facts and circumstances of their cases, and may be placed in alternatives to detention, including release on recognizance, or formal monitoring programs.

The categories qualifying for release, as reported by law enforcement sources, in addition to family unit members not accepted by Mexico under the CDC Title 42 COVID-19 guidelines, includes all single adult apprehensions with no criminal history in the United States.

The new development further promises to burden small border communities and NGOs to absorb the mounting humanitarian and public health crises.

Current Mexican Border State Governor Faces Organized Crime Probe

Federal prosecutors in Mexico are targeting a border state governor in an organized crime investigation and are asking that nation’s legislature to strip his criminal immunity protections. Prosecutors also say they are reviewing money laundering and tax fraud allegations.

Federal prosecutors in a money-laundering task force from Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR) filed a request with congressional leaders for hearings to remove criminal immunity and target Tamaulipas Governor Francisco Javier Cabeza de Vaca in connection with an investigation into organized criminal activity, money laundering, and tax fraud. The matter became public after Moises Ignacio Mier Velazco, a congressional leader with the MORENA Party, tweeted the document. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 25.

During a morning news conference, Mexico’s Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero claimed that the investigation was not political, though Cabeza de Vaca is one of the most vocal opponents to current president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In response to the allegations, Cabeza de Vaca took to social media claiming he was the target of a political attack and that he was not notified of the matter but would fight the charges.

Mexico’s Financial Intelligence Unit previously revealed to news outlets that they had an open investigation into Cabeza de Vaca’s family on money laundering concerns. In August, the border state governor denied allegations of being tied to cartels during a news conference with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Cabeza de Vaca warned about playing politics with allegations of ties to organized crime because such “games” risked lives.

Most recently, Cabeza de Vaca was tied to controversy after after a dozen state police officers murdered and incinerated Central American migrants in route to the Texas Border. The massacre is the latest of a series of allegations of police brutality and cooperation with cartels.

Clark: Biden’s Amnesty Bill Worsens Flaws in America’s Broken Immigration System

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the McAllen border patrol station encounter a large group of migrants near Los Ebanos, Texas, June 15, 2019. Last week, the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 was submitted to Congress as the first major immigration-related legislation of the Biden Administration. It consists of more than 350 pages of amendments to existing federal laws.

The first action out of the gate focuses on terminology: every reference to the word “alien” in existing statutes are removed and replaced with the word “non-citizen.”

The bill ponders amnesty for more than 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States who have been physically present since or before January 1, 2021. It also creates and funds a slew of programs like economic incentives to improve education and employment opportunities for Central American asylum seekers and refugees.

The bill allocates $4 billion to tackle what the White House considers are root problems for irregular migration. Funds are dedicated to address extensive poverty, provide workforce development, school safety, teacher training, and small business resources in Central America.

Social Security cards and work authorization permits are made available to applicants. Tax dollars are also earmarked for domestic advertising campaigns to promote the amnesty offer. Community centers offering legal advice are also promised.

Catch-and-Release becomes federal law. Section 4305, Alternatives to Detention, allows asylum applicants released along the U.S. border to be placed in community supervision programs. Local communities–not ICE—would account for the supervision and whereabouts of newly released migrants.

The bill authorizes federal grants to assist public school districts to improve educational opportunities for asylum seekers. It also provides grants to communities to offer workforce training. The bill prohibits universities from charging out of state tuition.

The mere promise of the legislation is a signal to economic migrants abroad that now is the time to find a way to the United States. History has shown, especially under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA), that eligibility or lack thereof can at times be hard to prove. More than three million illegal immigrants applied for amnesty under IRCA. It was designed to provide amnesty for those physically present in the United States prior to 1982 and to those who had worked in agriculture for a total of 90 days. The bipartisan measure also boosted the ranks of the Border Patrol. Added in were enforcement provisions that sanctioned employers who hired illegal immigrants in the future. Those sanctions ultimately proved to be a bust.

Estimates of the level of fraud under IRCA varied, but to Border Patrol Agents working at the time, it was obvious. The current legislation would provide equal opportunity to game the system based upon the sheer volume of anticipated applications.

Some past amnesty recipients who were arrested by Border Patrol for human trafficking or narcotics smuggling demonstrated little knowledge about agricultural work. As part of the criminal case files, these frauds were documented. Facing political pressure, suspects were ultimately convicted on smuggling matters alone.

If enacted today, the volume of applications would surely result in a rubber-stamp approval process, much like what was seen in the 1980s. As a result of IRCA, fly by night immigration consultants quickly opened businesses to capitalize on the application process. In some instances, undercover investigators with the Border Patrol posed as amnesty seekers who were clearly ineligible. In some cases, they were turned away. In others, they were sold fraudulent documents to bolster claims of eligibility. The latter cases resulted in the arrests and prosecutions of the business owners.

The fraudulent operations from the 1980s risk being repeated under the Biden plan. The requirement to have been physically present in the U.S. prior to January 1, 2021 will be easily defeated with a fraudulent rent receipts or other witness statements. Investigating every single claim of eligibility beyond face value information would be insurmountable, given the expected volume of cases.

The COVID-19 pandemic is brushed aside under the proposed bill. The legislation does not address testing or vaccinations for new arrivals at the border.

The U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021, in sum, exacerbates some of the most broken elements of the American immigration system and ignores lessons from the recent past.

Exclusive: ICE to Release Migrants Further into U.S. — Away from Texas Border Cities

Federal law enforcement sources report that Border Patrol agents will now rely on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to conduct migrant releases when detention space is not available in the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Migrant releases coordinated specifically by Border Patrol directly into border communities will be a last-resort option. Border Patrol officials are instructed to conduct the local releases only when ICE cannot cope with the level of arrests made by the Border Patrol.

The new policy may bring some relief to local shelters in South Texas border communities located in the Rio Grande Valley depending on where ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officials choose to release the migrants. The change in procedure is likely driven by increased media attention to the issue. It will likely result in migrants being released away from border communities in the Rio Grande Valley.

According to sources familiar with the new policy, ICE will transport many of the released migrants away from the immediate border region to family residential detention centers to await release. If this occurs, it will require significant funding for transportation costs associated with the movement of migrants to other cities.

Family residential detention centers operated by ICE are in smaller Texas communities surrounding San Antonio with insufficient public transportation resources to move the migrants. Sources tell Breitbart News this increases the likelihood that migrant releases will increase in San Antonio. The move is largely designed to change the current optics of where migrants are released. It is unlikely to impact the increased flow of arriving migrants.

As reported by Breitbart News, the ill-timed migrant releases before the winter storm were an ominous sign for border communities. Many lacked sufficient resources to deal with hundreds of released migrants. According to law enforcement sources, COVID-19 testing of released migrants is still not happening in many border communities.

During the cold snap in Texas, humanitarian shelters along the border quickly filled as transportation companies shut down operations. In some cases, migrants turned to local businesses for warmth as power failed at non-government humanitarian shelters. Residents in one Texas border community reported seeing migrants wandering through large department stores where, fortunately, power and heat were still available during the crisis.

Mayor Bruno Lozano of Del Rio, Texas, posted a YouTube video strongly urging President Biden to halt migrant releases within his city and surrounding communities. In the video, Mayor Lozano highlights the devastating conditions caused by recent freezing weather and the lack of available resources to cope with the released migrants. He raises COVID-19 concerns within the community and pleads for sufficient resources to address the influx of migrants.

Although little has changed regarding the situation in West Texas, law enforcement sources indicate the message may have resonated elsewhere as the new practices regarding how migrants are released in the Rio Grande Valley suddenly changed.

The volume of arrests within the Rio Grande Valley will determine how long the new plan remains in effect. According to CBP, Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley arrested more than 69,000 migrants since the start of this fiscal year, which began in October 2020, through January. Compared to the same time frame last fiscal year, the increase in arrests is a staggering 136 percent.

Breitbart News reached out to ICE officials for additional information about the policy change. A response was not available by press time.
