A verse from the Quran that explicitly calls on Muslims to kill and take Jews captive was reportedly recited last week inside the walls of the Belgian parliament building.

The Jerusalem Post reports an imam was responsible for the recitation on Tuesday.

The outlet said the Quran excerpt is verse 33:26 from the Al-Ahzab Surah (chapter). It reportedly translates to:

And He brought down those from the People of the Book who supported the enemy alliance from their own strongholds, and cast horror into their hearts. You ‘believers’ killed some, and took others captive.

Within the Quran, Jews are referred to as the “People of the Book.”

The event was not organized by the parliament, but rather at the initiative of Hasan Koyuncu, a member of parliament within the Socialist Party and vice president of the Francophone Parliament in Brussels The Friends Of Brussels Association were also involved.

MP Theo Francken, critical of the organizer of the event, posted on X, formerly Twitter, “This man invited that imam. He is deputy speaker of parliament. Can he stay that way?”

Secretary of State of the Brussels Capital region Nawal Ben Hamou reportedly left the event during the incident.

Israel’s ambassador to Belgium Idit Rosenzweig commented on X that she is “absolutely horrified” over the incident.

“He could have chosen anything else, not a frightening symbolic message to anyone who knows the Quran, straight from the parliament podium… in Brussels’ parliament, a city with 18,000 Jews who are already experiencing increased antisemitism and fear.”

Paris Police Shoot and Kill Sudanese Man Attempting to Attack People With a Butcher’s Knife

French police shot and killed a Sudanese national who had attempted to attack passengers on a Paris tram with a butcher knife in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 40-year-old man from the nation of Sudan dressed in a North African djellaba robe and carrying a “notebook with Arabic inscriptions” in one hand and brandishing a butcher’s blade in the other was shot and killed by Paris police at around 3 am on Saturday morning, Le Figaro reports.

According to police info, the Sudanese man had asked a fellow traveller on the train for a lighter and when he was refused, the 40-year-old took out a meat cleaver from his Moroccan dress and began attempting to attack the passenger.

The passenger was able to evade the attacks and quickly notified the police. The Paris prosecutor’s office said that officers discovered the African “holding a butcher’s blade in one hand and a notebook with Arabic inscriptions in the other”.

While police ordered him to throw down his weapon, the Sudanese man refused to comply and only responded with “words in Arabic”.

Officers initially used tasers on the knifeman, however, he was undeterred and attempted to rush officers from the railway brigade with the knife. At this point police opened fire on the attacker, firing off around twenty rounds, one of which shot the Sudanese man through the head, killing him on the spot.

The local prosecutor’s office has opened two investigations, including one for “attempted intentional homicide against a person holding public authority” against the deceased attacker and another against the officers who killed the knifeman for “intentional violence by police officers leading to death”.

The incident came just days after another knife attack at a Paris train station, during which a Malian man stabbed three people. Although he reportedly confessed to wishing to “attack French people” and had previously expressed anger about France’s colonial history in Africa, authorities have chosen not to treat the attack as an act of terrorism.

Surely They Didn’t Lie: Somehow, Despite Record Levels of Immigration the UK Is in Recession

LONDON, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 26: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (centre), alongside the Chancello

The UK’s Conservative government has made abundantly clear for the past 13 years that it can’t cut immigration as its voters want it to because migration grows the economy. Yet curiously, despite the largest wave of immigration to Britain ever, the economy is contracting. Mystifying.

The British economy entered recession last year, having been stagnant in the second quarter, declining by 0.1 per cent in quarter three, and 0.3 per cent in the fourth. These figures are “challenging” for the government, notes the Financial Times because the government has an election coming and had hoped to offer some tax cuts to try and distract voters from the astronomical tax increases they’ve been squarely behind for years.

Of course, the global economy is in a tight spot and governments across the West are battling against damaging headwinds. But the British government has an answer, a shortcut to global growth: importing people. Indeed, they’ve been so bold in this policy of growing the economy by keeping the borders firmly open, that the United Kingdom is now experiencing historic levels of arrivals.

While the headline-grabbing but comparatively inconsequential matter of illegal boat migration has consumed time and attention, changes by the Conservatives to the law to make arriving in Britain legally so much easier that in the year to June 2023, 1.2 million new people came to the country. Adjusting for those who left in the same period, that’s a net population increase of 672,000 in just a year.

As things stand, the population of the UK will soar by 10 per cent by 2036. Of the 6.6 million new people in that period, half a million will be natural growth — having more people born than die — while the remaining six million will come as a result of international migration.

That this is government policy is particularly consequential because it is precisely the opposite of what the governing Conservatives promised to deliver for many years. Elections were fought and won on the promise of reducing migration “to the tens of thousands” a year — instead, it is now a million more people every 18 months.

It was impossible to keep this promise, the government said, because growing the economy is the most important thing and overrules other considerations. Fair enough, you may say: Chancellor (Finance Minister) George Osborne expressed this in his infamous words back in 2017, when in a mask-slip moment he revealed top Conservatives never planned to follow through with cutting immigration in the first place. They just kept these feelings to themselves at election time. He said:

[N]one of [the Cabinet’s] senior members supports the pledge in private and all would be glad to see the back of something that has caused the Conservative Party such public grief… The damage to the economy from seriously reducing work visas was judged too severe by an expert migration committee; the impact on community relations of further limiting family reunion visas was seen as unpalatable; and few thought we were taking in too many refugees.

The present chancellor Jeremy Hunt has been perfectly clear that this is also where his feelings lie. In 2022 he told the BBC that migration has a “very positive” effect on the economy and so was here to stay. Pro-government newspaper The Telegraph said of his position then that: “Jeremy Hunt is relying on a surge in net migration to more than 200,000 people per year to help deliver economic growth … The increase in migrant labour will help to buttress Britain’s economy as Mr Hunt imposes higher taxes on earnings, jobs and investment.”

Last year, Hunt claimed the government has “a plan to remove the barriers to stop people working in the UK”, and that this is what people who voted for Brexit truly wanted. There were angry noises about this from Brexiteers at the time, but still, the juggernaut rolled on.

As recently as this month, the savants at Bloomberg predicted “soaring UK migration” would boost the British economy so much it would deliver the government a “windfall”. Seems we got a recession instead, though, and now those hoped-for floor-scrap tax cuts won’t be possible.

It is, of course, inconceivable that politicians would lie to voters. That, therefore, leaves the question, what went wrong? With Britain experiencing the highest levels of immigration in recorded history, and the government absolutely sticking with the fiscal orthodoxy that migrations grow the pie, the economy should surely be booming.

Is it possible that without the over three million extra people the country gained purely through migration in the ten years from 2013 to 2023, the economy would have been sent back to the stone age?

The focus on GDP as a measure of an economy’s success masks part of the problem, that while the UK entered a technical recession at the end of last year, individuals in the economy have been ‘in recession’ for much longer.

While the economy was still growing, GDP per capita — that is to say, how much wealth there is per person in the economy — has been falling and falling. In 2023, GDP per head fell 0.1 per cent in quarter one, 0.2 per cent in quarter two, 0.4 per cent in the third, and 0.6 in the fourth quarter, much faster than the national rate.

This trend may appear to suggest, at least, there are diminishing returns from importing more and more people into the economy.

To grasp how extraordinary the chasm between the Westminster political bubble — which has no party that could conceivably enter government in the near future that wants to reduce immigration — and the British people, consider a poll commissioned last year about public feelings on levels of arrival. A healthy majority, larger than voted in favour of Brexit for instance, support the notion that there could be a “temporary five-year pause on all further immigration into the UK so that the UK can better absorb the immigration of the last few decades.”

In that gulf between London and the country, it could feel like there’s an opportunity for an insurgent political party to make some political hay. The Conservatives are so low in the polls, after all, the party — one of the oldest in the world — may cease to meaningfully exist by Christmas. Watch this space.

Netherlands: Police Attacked, Cars Torched as Rival Eritrean Migrant Factions Riot at The Hague

Riots between rival factions of Eritrean migrants broke out in the Dutch city of The Hague on Saturday evening as police officers were left injured and cars were set on fire outside a conference centre.

The home of the war criminal trying International Criminal Court saw war zone-like scenes brought to its doorstep as supporters of the leftist government of Eritrean dictator Isaias Afwerki gathered in the Opera Hall Centre in The Hague’s city centre on Saturday evening.

A group of anti-government Eritreans gathered outside of the building in protest, however, it quickly devolved into open riots, with the anti-government faction smashing the windows of the hall and setting it on fire.

Riot police were dispatched to help protect the building from further damage and the pro-government Eritrean group within the conference centre were escorted from the building under police escort, Der Telegraaf reports.

Cashes between the two groups ensued and the riots continued to rage late into the evening, with several police and fire brigade vehicles being set ablaze and other privately owned cars being burnt during the altercations. Several officers and riot police were injured during clashes with the Eritrean mob, who took to pelting officers with stones.

The chairwoman of the Dutch Police Union (NPB) Nine Kooiman described the riots between the two groups of Eritreans as “devastating and too idiotic for words” and Ramon Meijerink of the ACP police union called them “completely unacceptable” while praising police officers for their “courage to step forward under difficult circumstances.”

The local fire brigade was initially prevented from putting out the fires because of the violence from the rioters. A spokesman said: “We initially received a report of a police car that was on fire. We had to withdraw because the situation was not safe. Later, a police van was also on fire at the hall complex.

“There we got stuck and were pelted, damaging vehicles and forcing us to withdraw. We then placed fences on the windows of our vehicles so that we could still extinguish the fires.”

It is not the first time the Netherlands has witnessed riots break out among rivalling groups of Eritrean migrants, with last May seeing a large brawl in the city of Rijswijk, forcing riot police to respond. Similar conflicts among Eritreans have been witnessed in Sweden and in Germany, with dozens being arrested in Stuttgart in September after clashes broke out at an Eritrean cultural festival in the city.

According to government estimates, there are currently approximately 27,000 Eritrean nationals living in The Netherlands, the vast majority of whom are typically young military-age males who often flee the East African nation to avoid being conscripted into the armed forces.

The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen said the violence against police officers was “horrible and unacceptable,” adding: “The Public Prosecution Service has set up a Large-Scale Investigation Team to prosecute perpetrators of these disorders. I would like to ask everyone who can contribute to the rapid detection of the perpetrators of this unacceptable and unnecessary violence to cooperate.”

Geert Wilders, the anti-mass migration populist who is in talks to become the next Dutch prime minister, said of the riots: “The Netherlands is really sick of it. Why is half the world allowed in here to tear down our country, fight mutual feuds, throw stones at police officers and set their cars on fire? I want to become the prime minister who finally puts things in order.”

HOW MUCH HAS JOE BIDEN HELPED THE MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS?

RFK Jr.: Stop The Crisis

The crisis at the border is unsustainable.

The body bags keep piling up. Drugs and human trafficking run rampant. Our cities and towns are overrun and strained to the max. The number of illegal migrants in the United States has roughly doubled under President Biden. Under his watch, the number of people taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol has reached an average of 2 million per year—the highest levels in the agency’s 100-year history.

President Biden continues to play chicken with our lives and refuses to use executive authority to secure the border. In fact, he walked back many of the restrictions that were keeping the crisis under control before he took office.

This is a deliberate political move. Biden has held office for 50 years; he’s playing dumb when pretends he doesn’t know what to do. And he’s playing politics when he ties border security to overseas war funding.

Enough is enough.

Cartels Using Land Mines in Mexican Border State near Texas

Tamaulipas Cartel Mines
Breitbart Texas / Cartel Chronicles

Drug cartels in Mexico resorted, once again, to terror-style tactics by deploying dozens of landmines in their ongoing turf war for control of lucrative drug trafficking routes into Texas.

This week, Tamaulipas State Police officers discovered land mines and IEDs planted along dirt roads in the northern part of the state. The discoveries took place along roads connecting the cities of Rio Bravo, San Fernando, and Valle Hermoso — all located in Tamaulipas.

That region is currently being fought over by two main rival factions of the Gulf Cartel known as Los Metros and Los Escorpiones. Authorities have not determined which faction planted the mines. Law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas that after the initial discovery, government officials told the state police officers not to make waves and to leave the devices where they were. In the following days, authorities began disabling the devices they found; however, dozens of more mines are believed to have been planted along rural roads in the region, placing local farmers at risk.

A law enforcement source provided Breitbart Texas with photographs of the mines and revealed that they are made by hand with a remote detonator that can be tripped at some distance from the explosives.

As Breitbart Texas reported, other drug cartels in Mexico, including Cartel Jalisco New Generation and Carteles Unidos, have been manufacturing explosives in clandestine factories in Jalisco and Michoacan. The increased use of land mines and other devices comes as Mexico’s government has been claiming that violence has decreased. In reality, violence has continued to spread and has reached once-peaceful areas, including beach resorts and tourism hubs in central Mexico.

Texas Gov. Abbott Announces Border Military Base to Combat Flow of Migrants

Texas will install a military base in the border city of Eagle Pass to curb the flow of illegal migrants allowed in by the Biden administration, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) announced at a press conference Friday.

The Texas Military Department is set to construct a Forward Operating Base on 80 acres of land along the Rio Grande that will house up to 1,800 Texas National Guard soldiers, with the ability to accommodate an additional 500, Abbott’s office stated.

Abbott’s administration explained that the base will be equipped to “respond to the open border chaos created by the Biden Administration, complete with recreational, chaplaincy, medical and psychological health facilities.

“Texas is expanding our border security capabilities by building a new Texas Military Department base camp to increase and improve border security operations in this area,” Abbott said at the press conference. “This will increase the ability for a larger number of Texas Military Department soldiers in Eagle Pass to operate more effectively and efficiently.”

The Republican juxtaposed the current situation of the National Guard compared to the new base’s plans for increased efficiency:

Before now, the Texas National Guard had been scattered across this entire region in cramped quarters, away from fellow soldiers, and sometimes traveling long distances to do their job. This base camp is going to dramatically improve conditions for our soldiers. Texas would not be able to respond to President Biden’s border crisis without the brave men and women of the Texas National Guard, and it is essential to build this base camp for them.

“In the coming weeks, we will also be expanding operations north and south of Eagle Pass, putting up additional barriers to fortify our border. We are also adding three more fan boats and expanding our drone program radar truck capabilities,” said Adjutant General of Texas Major General Suelzer. “Under Governor Abbott’s leadership, we are deploying every available resource and strategy to protect and defend Texas.”

According to Texas Border Czar Mike Banks, “The key thing I want you to take away from this is that we are providing a better quality of life for our Texas National Guard soldiers.”

“To see those numbers decrease in Texas, it’s a testament to what these soldiers and DPS are doing to secure the border,” he continued. “I applaud Governor Abbott for your leadership to stand up and do what the federal government continues to fail to do.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate approved on February 13 a $95 billion foreign aid package — which included $61 billion for Ukraine — that could have paid for a wall along the entire United States–Mexico border, Breitbart News reported.

A list published recently by Breitbart News shows 64 different ways that President Joe Biden has opened the borders to massively increase the number of migrants allowed in the country.

Mexican Cop Tied to Migrant Mass Killing in Mexico Caught Hiding in Texas

Police in the U.S. arrested a Mexican state police officer linked to the mass killing and incineration of 16 migrants and three human smugglers in 2021. Police found the fugitive hiding in Kyle, Texas, in an attempt to avoid prosecution in Mexico.

Alan Alvarez, a former member of the Tamaulipas State Police, has been a wanted fugitive in Mexico for his alleged role in a 2021 massacre where police officers allegedly mistook a human smuggling convoy for cartel gunmen, shot them, executed the survivors, and then torched the vehicles in an attempt to cover up the crime. Alvarez is one of over a dozen Mexican cops linked to the mass killing. However, he fled to Texas in an attempt to avoid prosecution.

Earlier this year, U.S. authorities arrested Alvarez in Kyle, where he was living illegally. After facing immigration charges, U.S. authorities contacted their Mexican counterparts to arrange Alvarez’s deportation so he could be turned over to Mexican authorities and stand trial in that country.

Under heavy guard, U.S. Border Patrol agents walked Alvarez across an international port entry where Mexican authorities were on hand to take him into custody.

As Breitbart initially reported, the 2021 mass killing took place just south of the border near Camargo, Tamaulipas, where the police officers encountered a convoy of SUVs that were making their way north towards the border along some dirt roads. At the time, police forces had been having heavy clashes with Gulf Cartel gunmen and allegedly mistook the migrants for gunmen. After the mass killing and incineration, the officers tried to claim that they had found the scene as it was and that it was the result of a fierce shootout between rival cartels.

Feds: Illegal Aliens Charged with Attack on NYPD Officers Members of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua Gang

NYPD
NYPD

At least two of eight illegal aliens accused of attacking New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers last month are members of Venezuela’s violent street gang known as Tren de Aragua, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials reveal. Seven of the illegal aliens are now in jail on Rikers Island.

On Jan. 27, a mob of illegal aliens from Venezuela was caught on surveillance and police body cam footage attacking a pair of NYPD officers outside of a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter in midtown Manhattan.

Since then, eight illegal aliens have been charged with the attack. On Friday, seven of the illegal aliens were sent to jail on Rikers Island in New York after pleading not guilty. Only one illegal alien linked to the attack has yet to be arraigned.

NYPD / BODY CAMS+ /TMX

The five illegal aliens arraigned on Friday are:

  • 24-year-old Yorman Reveron held on a $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond
  • 24-year-old Yohenry Brito held on a $15,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond
  • 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha held on a $15,000 cash bail
  • 21-year-old Wilson Juarez held on a $1 cash bail
  • 19-year-old Darwin Gomez-Izquiel held on a $50,000 cash bail

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Ulises Bohorquez and 18-year-old Yarwuin Madris are already being held on Rikers Island for the attack. Bohorquez has a cash bail of $100,000, while Madris has been ordered held without bail.

Jhoan Boada, a 22-year-old illegal alien from Venezuela, has been charged and let out without bail but has yet to be arraigned.

Thanks to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), linked to billionaire George Soros, previously not requesting bail for most, Brito and Madris were the only two illegal aliens charged in the attack who have remained consistently in jail, while the others had been released.

A so-called “sanctuary church” in Brooklyn, this week, had sought to help free Brito from jail by paying his previously set $15,000 cash bail, but he was ordered held on the bail on Friday.

According to ICE officials, who spoke to the Washington Times‘s Stephen Dinan, Juarez and Arocha are both members of Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua and crossed the southern border at some point in the last couple of years.

ICE agents had taken both into custody, noting that Arocha was wanted by the agency, while Juarez had already been ordered deported by a federal immigration judge a year ago but was never deported.

Juarez’s low bail of just $1 is likely to get him off Rikers Island, but ICE agents have said he will re-enter their custody if he is released from jail. Juarez’s bail is vastly lower than other suspects because he is charged with a single count of tampering with evidence, not with the attack.

The gang members’ involvement in the attack comes as federal authorities are increasingly worried that the nation’s porous southern border is allowing hundreds, potentially thousands, of Tren de Aragua members into American communities to set up shop.

In New York City, federal authorities worry that Tren de Aragua may form an alliance with the violent MS-13 gang from El Salvador which has many members across the city and Long Island.

Five-Time Deported Illegal Alien Accused of Killing 10-Year-Old Boy Walking Home from School

Midland PD
Midland PD

A five-time deported illegal alien is now accused of killing a 10-year-old boy walking home from school in Midland, Texas, in a hit-and-run crash.

Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas, a 50-year-old five-time deported illegal alien from Mexico, has been arrested and charged with drunk driving and causing a fatal hit-and-run crash that ultimately killed 10-year-old Alex “AJ” Wise, Jr.

Midland is less than four hours from the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to the Midland Police Department, on Feb. 8, Ortiz-Olivas was driving a truck when he hit Wise, who was walking home from school. Immediately, police said, Ortiz-Olivas fled the scene, leaving Wise in critical condition.

Wise was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, but died from his injuries the following morning. Wise was a student at IDEA Travis and his family described him as “the sweetest, coolest, funniest little boy you ever would meet” in a GoFundMe post.

A memorial fundraiser for Wise is being held on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Please see the flyer below for another opportunity to aid Alex's family during this time!

Posted by IDEA Travis on Monday, February 12, 2024

Officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told CBS7 News that Ortiz-Olivas, who is now being held in jail on an ICE detainer, was first sent back to Mexico on a voluntary departure order after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

Ortiz-Olivas, though, illegally returned repeatedly to the U.S. and has been deported five times by ICE agents since this first voluntary departure.

Ortiz-Olivas remains in Midland Police Department custody on $110,000 bail.

‘Sanctuary Church’ Helps Free from Jail Illegal Alien Charged with Migrant Mob Attack on NYPD Officers

One of only two illegal aliens held on bail following a migrant mob attack on New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers last month is now free to walk the streets again thanks to a so-called “sanctuary church” in Brooklyn that posted his bond.

On Jan. 27, a mob of illegal aliens from Venezuela were caught on surveillance and police body cam footage attacking a pair of NYPD officers outside of a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter in midtown Manhattan.

NYPD / BODY CAMS+ /TMX

Thus far, only two of the seven illegal aliens charged with the violent attack have been ordered held on bail at Riker’s Island in New York City, while the others were immediately released thanks to New York state’s bail reform law.

Now, according to the New York Post, one of those illegal aliens held on bail is back on the city’s streets after a “sanctuary church” in Brooklyn paid his $15,000 bond:

The sole migrant who had been held behind bars for the gang attack on two NYPD cops in Times Square is now also free after an activist Brooklyn priest posted his $15,000 bail, The Post has learned. [Emphasis added]

Yohenry Brito, 24, who was being held at Rikers Island on the Jan. 27 cop attack and is due to be arraigned on an assault indictment this week, walked out of jail Tuesday after Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge put up the money, the church’s pastor said. [Emphasis added]

“Our church is basically a sanctuary,” the Rev. Juan Ruiz told The Post on Wednesday. “We assume that people are innocent until they are proven otherwise.” [Emphasis added]

Yarwuin Madris, an 18-year-old illegal alien from Venezuela, was arrested this week for the attack and is being held in jail on bail.

Meanwhile, five illegal aliens — 24-year-old Yorman Reveron, 22-year-old Jhoan Boada, 21-year-old Wilson Juarez, 19-year-old Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, and 19-year-old Kelvin Servita Arocha — have been charged with the attack but were all released without bail.

Boada went viral online when he was filmed leaving a Manhattan courthouse flipping off cameras earlier this month following his arrest.

Gomez-Izquiel is now back in NYPD custody after he was arrested for allegedly robbing a Macy’s in Queens just weeks after being arrested for the attack. Likewise, Juarez and Arocha are also now in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody but are due back in Manhattan court this week.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), financially linked to billionaire George Soros, has come under immense fire for releasing most of the illegal aliens accused of the attack on NYPD officers.

Republicans in the New York State Senate, for example, have called on Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) to remove Bragg from his position as district attorney.

Hochul has yet to call out Bragg by name, instead telling the media that “you don’t let them out [of jail], you ask for bail, a judge grants it and then you hold people until you find out exactly what happened” in the case.

Bragg’s district attorney’s office, though, has not sought bail for most of the illegal aliens accused in the attack.

Report: Joe Biden’s DHS Drafts Plan to ‘Mass Release’ Illegal Aliens into U.S.

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 13: U.S. President Joe Biden speaks on the Senate's recent

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is drafting plans that would include a “mass release” of illegal aliens currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody into the United States, a new report reveals.

According to the Washington Post, DHS is considering having ICE release thousands of illegal aliens in the agency’s custody into American cities and towns as the Biden administration claims they need billions from Congress to avoid carrying out the plan in a seemingly quasi-extortion scheme.

The Post reports:

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has drafted plans to release thousands of immigrants and slash its capacity to hold detainees after the failure of a Senate border bill that would have erased a $700 million budget shortfall, according to four officials at ICE and the Department of Homeland Security. [Emphasis added]

Some of the proposed cost savings in ICE detention would occur through attrition — deportations — but much of it would have to happen through the mass release of detainees, said the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss internal deliberations. [Emphasis added]

RJ Hauman of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE) suggested that Biden’s DHS is not spending funds as they were allocated by Congress, noting that the agency was given more funding for detention space than they had even requested.

“Congress gave the Biden administration more money than they requested for the detention of illegal aliens. So what is ICE spending money on that created this volitional budget gap?” Hauman told Breitbart News.

“First look should be at pilot programs that provide social services to illegal aliens and improper management of detention,” Hauman continued. “Also, keep in mind that the Trump administration was able to significantly exceed the appropriated amount of detention beds. The Biden administration is only a tad over, after refusing to fill the appropriated bed amount month after month.”

Already, Biden’s DHS has drastically cut the number of illegal aliens in ICE custody who are arrested throughout the U.S. interior, often for various pending criminal charges and convictions.

For example, fewer than 11,000 illegal aliens are in ICE custody today who were arrested by ICE agents within the U.S. interior. Compare that detainee population to May 2019 when more than 19,500 illegal aliens were in ICE custody after being arrested by ICE agents.

In total, more than 3-in-10 illegal aliens in ICE custody — including those arrested by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) after being arrested near the southern border — have either pending criminal charges against them or convictions.

The drafted Biden plan would make almost certain that illegal aliens with such convictions and pending criminal charges are released into the U.S. interior under the guise of a lack of funding for the agency.

Last week, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden may gut the number of deportations carried out by ICE agents unless the House and Senate passed billions in funds for DHS to more quickly get border crossers into the U.S. interior and the NGOs that aid the process.

As Breitbart News has chronicled, Biden has consistently cut deportations of even the most violent criminal illegal aliens. The latest ICE data shows that Biden is deporting about one illegal alien for every 70 illegal aliens arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.

ICE deportation figures for Fiscal Year 2023 also reveal that the nation’s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens have very few chances of being deported. For example, last year, illegal aliens had a fewer than five percent chance of being deported from the U.S. by ICE agents.

Mexican President Sends ‘Good Wishes’ to Jailed Drug

Lord, Discusses Release

ILDEFONSO ORTIZ and BRANDON DARBY

Mexico’s president sent friendly greetings to an imprisoned drug lord who has been singled out by the U.S. as the mastermind behind the 1985 murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. The politician also said he is not opposed to releasing him from jail.

The powerful statements came during a morning news conference by Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopes Obrador where he spoke on the case of jailed Guadalajara Cartel Kingpin Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo also known as El Jefe de Jefes or the Boss of Bosses. The jailed drug lord once led the Guadalajara Cartel and recently granted a jailhouse interview to Telemundo. During that interview, a wheelchair-bound Felix Gallardo sent his support and blessings to Lopez Obrador.

“I thank him very much for his good wishes and I want him to understand my situation,” Lopez Obrador said. “I don’t want anyone to suffer, I don’t want anyone to be in jail.”

Lopez Obrador said that if Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office determined that he had no pending cases, he would be in favor of releasing Felix Gallardo due to his age and him having already spent time in prison. During the statement, Lopez Obrador did not make any mention of having the drug lord extradited to the U.S. to face prosecution for Camarena’s murder.

During the interview with Telemundo, the once-powerful drug lord denied having been a kingpin and claimed that he had spent 32 years in prison for crimes he did not commit. Felix Gallardo also claimed that he did not know why he is related to the case of Camarena, claiming that he never met the agent or had any connection to the leadership of the Guadalajara Cartel.

Felix Gallardo along with Rafael Caro Quintero are two of the living leaders of the Guadalajara Cartel and are believed to be the masterminds behind the kidnapping, torture, and murder of Camarena. As Breitbart Texas reported, a Mexican federal judge released Caro Quintero in 2013 in a sudden move before the U.S. government could extradite him. Since then the drug lord claimed that he wanted to retire but has since become one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.

“Joe Biden is great on immigration. I guess depends on your perspective. If you’re a human trafficker, or drug dealer, you’d give him an A-plus, but the American people would give him an F. The crisis at our border was not only entirely predictable, it was predicted. I predicted that if you campaign all year long on open borders, amnesty, and health care for illegals, you’re going to get more migrants at the border. Mexico's president says he won't accept vigilantes

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador speaks during a ceremony marking the third anniversary of his presidential election at the National Palace in Mexico City, Thursday, July 1, 2021

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s president said Tuesday he will not accept vigilantes arming themselves, and suggested they are serving local political bosses or gangs.President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was responding to a drill held over the weekend by about 100 vigilantes in the southern state of Chiapas. The group, which calls itself “The Machete,” said it was formed to evict drug traffickers from Indigenous communities.

López Obrador said they were using that as an excuse, and suggested the vigilantes may have gotten their motley array of weapons from criminals.

“In no case will armed groups be accepted,” López Obrador said. “This can be used as an excuse, that there is a lot of crime, and that's not what it is. It could be a political confrontation.”

While the president said his administration is still studying the group that formed in the Chiapas township of Pantelho, he refused to believe they were just residents fed up with crime and killings.

“Either it is a question of political maneuvering in the region, control by bosses,” he said, “or it is criminals. We have to see where they got their weapons."

The previous administration briefly embraced so-called “self-defense” groups in the western state of Michoacan in 2013 and 2014, before most were found to be infiltrated by drug gangs. López Obrador said that is a mistake he isn’t going to repeat.

But he did not say whether his administration would try to disarm them. As part of his “hugs, not bullets” strategy, López Obrador has studiously avoided open confrontation with protesters, drug cartels and almost anyone else.

But that strategy has neither reduced crime nor homicides in Mexico.

The township of Pantelho has seen a number of confrontations since mid-June in the region and local human rights groups say around 2,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in recent years because of the fighting.

It was unclear who organized or armed the Machete vigilantes, who appear to include members of the Tzotzil Indigenous group. The men appeared mainly masked, with black T-shirts bearing the group’s logo, a pair of crossed machetes.

In a statement posted earlier on social media, a masked spokesman for the group claimed around 200 residents of Pantelho had been killed in recent years by “drug traffickers.” The Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels appear to be fighting for control of the area, which is used to traffic both drugs and migrants from neighboring Guatemala.

“We must defend the lives of our community,” the unnamed spokesman said. The group took responsibility for a shootout in Pantelho in June in which several people died.

“We entered (the town) not to attack the people, but to expel the professional killers and drug traffickers,” according to the statement. “Once we have freed it from the professional killers and drug traffickers, we as self-defense forces will withdraw, because we do not seek money or power for ourselves.”

Sure-fire winner Obrador calls mass immigration to the United States a “human right” and says migrants “must leave their towns and find a life in the United States.” This razaista wants his lebensraum and he wants it right now.

If Obrador wins, President Trump might get him up to speed on America’s experience with regimes like that. And he might broach the subject of the $26.1 billion in remittances, an amount impossible without the bilking of American taxpayers on a massive scale.

Mexican Presidents Deny They Took Bribes from El  Chapo

https://www.breitbart.com/border/2018/11/14/mexican-presidents-deny-they-took-bribes-from-el-chapo/

Two former Mexican presidents publicly denied taking bribes from the Sinaloa Cartel. The statements came after the legal defense for Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera made contrary claims this week.

The drug lord is facing several money laundering and drug trafficking charges at a federal trial in New York. In his opening statement, defense attorney Jeffrey Lichtman spoke of bribes “including the very top, the current president of Mexico and the former.”

Soon after the statements became public, Mexico’s government issued a statement denying the allegations. Eduardo Sanchez, the spokesman for current Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said the statements were false and “defamatory.”

Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon took to social media to personally deny the allegations, claiming that neither El Chapo or the Sinaloa Cartel paid him bribes.

Under Guzman’s leadership, the Sinaloa Cartel became the largest drug trafficking organization in the world with influence in every major U.S. city.

The allegations against Pena Nieto are not new. In 2016, Breitbart News reported on an investigation by Mexican journalists which revealed how Juarez Cartel operators funneled money into the 2012 presidential campaign. The investigation was carried out by Mexican award-winning journalist Carmen Aristegui and her team. The subsequent scandal became known as “Monexgate” for the cash cards that were given out during Peña Nieto’s campaign. The allegations against Pena Nieto went largely unreported by U.S. news outlets.

Should We Invade Mexico?

https://townhall.com/columnists/kurtschlichter/2018/07/05/should-we-invade-mexico-n2497140?utm_campaign=rightrailsticky2

Kurt Schlichter

One fact a lot of Americans forget is that our country is located right up against a socialist failed state that is promising to descend even further into chaos – not California, the other one. And the Mexicans, having reached the bottom of the hole they have dug for themselves, just chose to keep digging by electing a new leftist presidente who wants to surrender to the cartels and who thinks that Mexicans have some sort of hitherto unknown “human right” to sneak into the United States and demographically reconquer it. There’s a Spanish phrase that describes his ideology, and one of the words is toro.

Mexico is already a failed state, crippled by a poisoned, stratified culture and a corrupt government that have somehow managed to turn a nation so blessed with resources and hardworking people into such a basket case that millions of its citizens see their best option as putting themselves in the hands of gangsters to cross a burning desert to get cut-rate jobs in el Norte. It is a country dominated by bloody drug/human trafficking cartels that like to circulate videos of their members carving up living people. They hang mutilated corpses from overpasses and hijack busloads of citizens to rape and slaughter for fun. Whole police agencies are owned by the cartels. Political candidates live in fear of murder. The people are scared. And this chaos will inevitably grow and spread north.

The gangs are already here, importing the meth and fentanyl that are slaughtering tens of thousands of Americans a year after coming across the border the Democrats refuse to defend. Let’s not even think about the other foreigners, like Islamic terrorists, who might exploit this vulnerability. “Abolish ICE,” the liberals screech, yet what they really mean is “Erase that line on the map.” But that line is all that is keeping the bloodshed in Mexico at bay for now. You can stand on US soil, look south, and see places where the rates of killing dwarf those of the Middle Eastern killing fields you see on TV.

The chaos in Mexico will spill over the theoretical border. It is just a matter of time. Normal Americans know it. As my book upcoming book Militant Normals explains, the establishment willfully ignoring their legitimate concerns about border security is a big part of why Normals are getting militant. The Democrats, and the GOP donor class stooges, have a vested interest in ignoring the issue, and they will insure that both the political class and the hack media will continue to play ostrich. Already there are Americans, on American soil, living near the border who cannot venture outside at night on their own property for fear of being murdered because of foreigners invading out territory. This is intolerable for any sovereign country. Yet there is a huge liberal constituency, abetted by GOPe fellow travelers, not merely willing to tolerate the invasion but who actively want to increase the flow.

When the 125-million-man criminal conspiracy that is Mexico falls apart completely, as it will, we are going to have to deal with the consequences. Watch the flood of illegals become a tsunami, a real refugee crisis instead of today’s fake one. Watch the criminal gangs and pathologies of the Third World socialist culture they bring along turn our country into Mexico II: Gringo Boogaloo. And importing a huge mass of foreigners, loyal to a foreign country and potentially susceptible to the reconquista de Aztlan rhetoric of leftists, both among them and among our treacherous liberal elite, would create a cauldron for brewing up violent civil upheaval right here at home.

So, what do we do? We defend ourselves, obviously. But how?

Should we be reactive? Should we continue the fake defense of our border we’re pretending to conduct today? Or should we seriously defend ourselves by building a wall and truly guarding it, and by deporting all illegals we catch inside. But would that even be enough when Mexico collapses?

It’s time to ask: Should we be proactive?

Should we invade Mexico? Should we send our military across the Rio Grande to secure the unstable territory, annihilate the criminal infestation that suppurates there, and impose something resembling order? One thing is certain. The border charade we tolerate today can’t be an option – it’s an open door to the fallout from the failing state next door.

Militarily, there are three obvious courses of action (I had input on this by several people familiar with the issue; none of this reflects any actual operational planning that I or anyone I spoke to is aware of).

One is the Buffer Zone option. We move in and secure a zone perhaps 50-100 miles inside the country, aggressively targeting and annihilating criminal gangs – we know where these bastards are – and thereby seal off the threat until Mexico is secure again and then return the territory once we are assured America is safe.

This is doable, but it would take a huge chunk of our military forces (we would need to call up most of our reserves). The conventional Mexican forces that fought would last for about un momento before being vaporized, but it would spark at a minimum a low-intensity insurgency by cartel hardliners and, at worst, a large one by Mexican patriots, probably using guns left over from when the Obama cartel was shipping them south. Regardless, it would be expensive. There is the “You break it, you buy it” rule. We would end up administering a long strip of territory full of people living, largely, in what Americans consider abject poverty. They would become our problem. Moreover, there is the giving back part – millions of Mexicans might find they like being nieces and nephews of Tio Sam.

The second is Operation Mexican Freedom, a much more ambitious campaign that would recognize what liberals already think – that Mexico and America are one country. Our forces would conquer the nation by driving all the way south, perhaps with an amphibious landing at Veracruz for old times sake and because the Marines would insist, then seal the Mexican-Guatemalan border. We would annex the whole country, making it a colony like Puerto Rico (A dozen new senators from Old Mexico? Nogracias). We would kill every terrorist drug gang member and take or torch everything they own, while simultaneously deporting every illegal from the US-Canada border to the Mexican-Guatemalan border.

Of course, that would take up pretty much our entire military and certainly spark some sort of endless guerilla conflict. We would be stuck in another bloody, expensive fight to make a Third World country cease sucking despite itself. It would make the Iraq War seem cheap. But, on the plus side, Bill Kristol and his bombs away pals would probably be excited.

Oh, in both cases the Europeans would be outraged, which is a powerful argument for these options.

Still, no. Invading Mexico is a bad idea. It would convert the problems of Mexico, created and perpetuated by Mexicans, into our problems. We tried that in the Middle East. It doesn’t work. Making Mexico better for Mexicans is not worth the life of one First Infantry Division grenadier.

But the consequences in America are our problem, and we must solve it. That brings us to the third option – Forward Defense. Think Syria in Sinaloa. We secure the border, with a wall of concrete and a wall of troops, perhaps imposing a no-fly/no-sail zone (excepting our surveillance and attack aircraft), and then conduct operations inside Mexico using special operations forces combined with airpower to target and eliminate the cartels. We would also identify friendly local Mexican police and military officials and support their counter-cartel operations outside of our relationship with the central government – they would be the face of the fight. We would channel Hernán Cortés and, in essence, we would allow friendly Mexican allies, with our substantial direct and indirect support, to create our buffer zone for us.

This avoids the problem of buying Mexico’s problems and making them ours. It’s somewhat deniable; everyone could save face by denying the Yankees have intervened. But the cartels would not just sit there and take it. They would target Americans and probably do so inside the United States. Yet that’s going to happen anyway eventually. This course of action risks the lowest number of US casualties, but perhaps the highest number of Mexican losses.

So no, we should not invade Mexico. There are no good military options, and none are necessary or wise today, but we may eventually have to choose between bad options. Mexico is failing more and more every day. We are not yet at the point of a military solution, but anyone who says that day can never come is lying to himself and to you. We need a wall, but more than that, we need the commitment to American security and sovereignty that a wall would physically represent. The issue is very clear, and we need to be very, very clear about it when we are campaigning in November. Border security. Period.

Are we going to prioritize the interests of liberals who want to replace our militant Normal voters with pliable foreigners and establishment stooges who want to please rich donors by importing countless cheap foreign laborers, or are we going to prioritize the economic security and the physical safety of American citizens by securing our border no matter what it takes?

Come on, open borders mafia, let’s have that discussion. Bueno suerte with that at the ballot box.

THE NARCOMEX INVASION OF AMERICA…. By invitation of the Democrat Party

https://mexicanoccupation.blogspot.com/2018/11/trump-seeks-deal-with-narcomex-as.html

There are many reasons why, for the first time, the government of Mexico would agree to work cooperatively with the United States over an extremely serious immigration-related issue. It is likely, of course that President Trump was not just posturing when he said he would cut off aid to Mexico and other countries who permit the United States to be invaded by illegal aliens.

Under Guzman’s leadership, the Sinaloa Cartel became the largest drug trafficking organization in the world with influence in every major U.S. city.

Former Mexican military chief pleads not guilty to US drug trafficking charges

Retired Gen. Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda, the Mexican defense secretary from 2012 to 2018, appeared in a US federal court in Brooklyn last Thursday, following his Oct. 15 arrest at Los Angeles International Airport.

Cienfuegos, referred to as “The Godfather” in the indictment, pleaded “not guilty” to charges of conspiracy, drug trafficking to the United States and money laundering. Between December 2015 and February 2017, according to the court filing, “in exchange for bribe payments, he permitted the H-2 Cartel—a cartel that routinely engaged in wholesale violence, including torture and murder—to operate with impunity in Mexico.”

The prosecutors claim to have thousands of incriminating BlackBerry Messenger exchanges with the H-2 Cartel, a remnant of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel, they obtained through US phone-tapping operations against Cienfuegos and cartel members. One message allegedly indicates that he provided assistance for far longer to another organization, which is widely believed to be the Sinaloa Cartel.

The trial of Cienfuegos is the latest in a string of cases pursued by the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn since it handed down a life sentence against Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán last year.

Currently, the two main overseers of the so-called “war on drugs” during the administration of Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto are being charged for working with the drug cartels. Genaro García Luna, former secretary of public security, arrested last year in Texas, has also pleaded not guilty to charges of receiving millions to protect the Sinaloa Cartel. The case also involves charges against his closest underlings Luis Cárdenas Palomino and Ramón Pequeño García.

The Cienfuegos arrest sent shockwaves through the Mexican ruling elite, with nervous press commentaries calling it “irresponsible” and warning that it “shatters trust in Mexico’s armed forces.”

Cienfuegos was not under any investigation in Mexico, raising suspicions about the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who claims to be leading a campaign against corruption. He has responded to the charges in the US by claiming that “We won’t cover for anybody,” while refusing to remove any of the officials appointed by Cienfuegos, or even those in his circle of confidence like the current chief officer of the secretary of defense, Agustín Radilla.

“I don’t see anyone in the Army happy about this detention,” wrote Mexican reporter Eunice Rendón, who added, “They are the same then and now under [López Obrador’s] ‘Fourth Transformation.’”

The recent cases have gravely tarnished all institutions involved in the “war on drugs,” from the presidencies of Felipe Calderón (2006–2012) and Peña Nieto (2012–2018), to the military and police leaderships, as well as the US administrations that backed the war through the $3.1 billion Merida Initiative since 2007.

As in other countries in the region, chiefly Colombia, drug trafficking has long been exploited by US governments to further Washington’s influence over the region’s security forces and, through this, over domestic politics. “Prior to FY2008,” explains a 2020 report by the US Congress Research Service, “Mexico did not receive large amounts of U.S. security assistance, partially due to Mexican sensitivity about U.S. involvement in the country’s internal affairs.”

The corporate media has largely avoided commenting on the questions the cases raise about the role of the US government itself. García Luna, especially, played a key role in setting up and selling the Merida Initiative to the US and Mexican public.

A December 2007 diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks indicates that then Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte was a personal handler of García Luna, helping him “fill in the blanks in preparation for future questioning regarding the Merida Initiative.”

García Luna was also allowed to personally “vet” officials in the Mexican police, a cover used by US agencies to assuage fears of corruption in the Mexican state. An April 2008 cable explains that “unprecedented cooperation … would not be possible without our ability to work with vetted units [by García Luna] supported by USG agencies including DEA and ICE.”

After the killing of several of García Luna’s officials by rival drug cartels in 2008—officials eulogized by the US embassy for their “outstanding work” and “highest professional standards”— an embassy cable expressed “concerns about García Luna’s ability to manage his subordinates.” Nonetheless, in October 2009, the US ambassador said García Luna, who had just quintupled the size of the federal police with the help of US aid, would be a “key player” in reaching “new levels of practical cooperation in two of the country’s most important institutions.”

After the war claimed more than 300,000 lives, left 73,000 missing—including numerous extrajudicial massacres by the military— and cost Mexican taxpayers $120 billion, the promises to end the war and the Merida Initiative by Andrés Manuel López Obrador were central to his 2018 election as president.

Shortly after the 2018 election, an Internal Security Law approved by Peña Nieto and requested by Cienfuegos—allowing troops to carry out police functions and granting greater autonomy to the military to select targets, wage operations and collect intelligence—was declared unconstitutional.

As soon as he came to power, however, López Obrador and his Morena party changed the Constitution to permit the domestic deployment of the military and created a National Guard as a new cover for the discredited military.

Meanwhile, the US Congress, with bipartisan approval, has granted AMLO nearly $300 million under the Merida Initiative.

Commenting on the Cienfuegos arrest, the renowned journalist and expert on Mexican drug cartels, Anabel Hernández, stressed that, “The same system remains embedded in his own political party Morena.” She explained that Morena’s security chief in Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, rose through the ranks under the patronage of García Luna and Cárdenas Palomino, and cites federal police documents confirming Harfuch’s talks with organized crime.

A December 2009 cable published by WikiLeaks shows that the US State Department vetted Harfuch when he was working for the federal police under García Luna so that Harfuch could complete programs with the FBI, DEA and Harvard University.

Additionally, a DEA agent told Proceso in December 2012 that they had long known about García Luna’s ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, but kept quiet “out of respect for Mexican institutions and because he was the direct contact with the United States.”

In the case of Cienfuegos, several cables note his constant collaboration with the United States, with the Pentagon awarding him an award for excellence two years ago.

While carrying out widespread austerity measures amid the pandemic crisis, including the elimination of $3 billion for science, culture and victim protection, the Morena administration granted $1.5 billion for military equipment and subsidies for the families of the chiefs of staff and proposed a 20 percent budget increase for defense.

This context explains why the US case against Cienfuegos ignores the widespread human rights abuses carried out by the military under the general’s term, including countless extrajudicial executions.

Last September, soldiers were first arrested in Mexico for their involvement in the killing of the 43 Mexican teaching students from Ayotzinapa in 2014. Cienfuegos lied repeatedly about the involvement of the military, which collaborated in the killings with Guerreros Unidos, another splinter of the Beltrán Leyva cartel.

From 2005 to 2007, Cienfuegos headed the IX military region of Guerrero, the state where Ayotzinapa is located, at a time when the Beltrán Leyva cartel prospered out of their base in Acapulco, the state’s largest city. Cienfuegos would then lead the first military region of Mexico City from 2007 to 2009, which was then a stronghold for the Sinaloa Cartel.

In 2012, Sergio Villarreal, a leader of the Beltrán Leyva Cartel known as “El Grande,” testified after his arrest that in 2007 and subsequently, he and his then partners of the Sinaloa Cartel had “bought” the commanders of the security forces in Guerrero and Mexico City.

Mexican President Pushes Amnesty on Crime, Senate to Decide

AFP PEDRO PARDO

ILDEFONSO ORTIZ and BRANDON DARBY

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is pushing for a new bill that would grant amnesty to thousands of currently jailed individuals. The bill called Ley de Amnistia or Amnesty Law is expected to go before Mexico’s Senate. If the senate passes the bill, it would lead to the release of thousands of individuals who have been “unjustly jailed”.

Mexico’s leading Senator Ricardo Monreal said the law is part of a process aimed at bringing peace to Mexico, Mexico’s Vanguardia reported. The bill is supposed to target underage teens and women who have been forced to commit crimes by organized criminal groups, women who were forced by their lovers to carry weapons, and farmers who were forced to grow drugs by giving them a chance at freedom and access to jobs, Mexico’s Animal Politico reported.

According to Mexico’s Secretary of the Interior Olga Sanchez Cordero, the bill is not meant as a measure of impunity, because the bill would also look at crime victims and reparations, Animal Politico reported. The politician also said in multiple interviews that the bill would not apply to those convicted of serious offenses such as murder, kidnapping, and crimes against humanity.

The new proposed bill comes at a time when Mexico’s government has been pushing for the legalization of drugs and where earlier this year, AMLO claimed that the war on drugs was over, Breitbart Texas reported.

The news comes as Mexican border cities like Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa continue to be hotspots of violence where violent drug cartels such as factions of Los Zetas and the Gulf Cartel regularly use armored vehicles with mounted machine guns, .50 caliber rifles, and grenade launchers to clash with state police officers. In most of the recent gun battles, federal authorities and military forces have been absent or only made an appearance after the shooting ended. This led the governor of Tamaulipas to publicly call out the federal government for not fighting against cartels, Breitbart Texas reported.

SAN DIEGO — Top U.S. border officials expect cartels to build more tunnels from Mexico to the United States and increasingly rely on drones for surveillance operations as the 400 miles of new border wall makes it harder to smuggle people and drugs into the country.

Transnational criminal organizations have long used tunnels and drones at the southwest border, but senior Border Patrol officials across the country are bracing for more activity as new 30-foot-tall barrier wall goes up in areas that have long been easy for criminals to cross.

“Don't be fooled into thinking that the cartels and smuggling organizations won't do whatever to try to adapt,” said Anthony Porvaznik, chief of the Border Patrol’s Yuma sector in western Arizona. “We fully expect to see more tunneling activity.”

“Smugglers are in the business to make money,” said Border Patrol’s national chief, Rodney Scott, during a one-on-one tour with the Washington Examiner of the Southern California region. “I definitely think they will, but again, we talk about the wall system all the time … because it's a 30-year, enduring investment that, without it, they wouldn't have to go to drones, they wouldn't have to go to tunnels, they wouldn't even have to go to the port of entry. They were just driving trucks across before, and the overhead expenses for them were significantly lower to just drive across.”

Three types of tunnels are seen on the southern border: rudimentary tunnels comparable to gopher holes that only go several feet deep; those that connect into existing infrastructure systems, like a drainage system; and sophisticated ones that can go as deep as 90 feet. Scott said federal investigators typically learn very early on about the elaborate kind of tunnels and intentionally do not bust them until they are almost complete.

“On average, it takes about a year for them to dig it. It takes engineers, and it takes a lot of money, so if we can literally keep them focused on pouring their money into a hole in the ground, we know about, we'll let it go until right at the end,” said Scott. “We just want to make sure no illegal substances or people get into the U.S.”

In August, federal agents announced the discovery of the “most sophisticated” tunnel ever found at the border. The tunnel was built 25 feet below the sandy grounds of Yuma, Ariz. It was far enough along that ventilation and rail systems had already been installed.

In August, federal agents announced the discovery of the “most sophisticated” tunnel ever found at the border. The tunnel was built 25 feet below the sandy grounds of Yuma, Arizona. It was far enough along that ventilation and rail systems had already been installed. Yuma border officials showed the tunnel to the Washington Examiner. Outside companies are remediating the tunnel, which includes filling it with concrete so that it cannot be used in the future.

Despite Yuma’s recent bust, the San Diego region’s soil composition makes it the most suitable for tunnel builders out of the nine regions by which the Border Patrol divides the southwest border.

“Here, it's soft, so they have to actually line it with wood and hold it up,” said Porvaznik, who is based in Arizona. “In San Diego, they can dig it out, and it's more clay-like material, so it'll stay.”

Border officials expected the wall to have an impact on tunneling and included in annual wall funding money for underground systems that can detect disturbances in the soil. In Southern California, Border Patrol has a team that tracks tunnel activity. Border Patrol San Diego Chief Aaron Heitke said intelligence specialists map out warehouses located near the border and go door to door to meet with business owners to get a feel for who may be a threat. The team takes an overt approach, out in public and by asking businesses if they see unusual activity to tip off the Department of Homeland Security. The task force can also track imports and exports, as well as taxes filed to the Internal Revenue Service, to see if a business is a front or conducting legitimate trade.

The tunnel found near Yuma, Ariz., had a rail system built inside that would have been used to move contraband from Mexico into the United States.

“We’re literally kind of mapping out like, ‘Sony has been here forever. It's a legitimate business. We've never had any problems. It's a lower threat,'” said Scott, who previously oversaw the San Diego region. “This warehouse — you’ve got seven businesses in different suites that have been here for years. We know them. They call, they don’t, whatever — you kind of gauge it. And this one turns over every 30 days, every 60 days. That's something we're going to watch.”

In El Paso, where tunnels are less prevalent because of the river and canal systems, agents constantly see drones flying over from Mexico.

“All day long — 24/7 in this area — there’s drones going up and down,” said Border Patrol's El Paso division chief for operations, Walter Slozar. “They’re not using them to smuggle things yet ... We can even tell like when one goes up, ‘Oh, when that one goes up, that’s when something happens over here.'”

Drones surveil agents on the ground and inform smugglers when to send migrants over the border and when agents may be wrapped up elsewhere.

The western Arizona and eastern California regions are also seeing a heavy use of drones but for the smuggling of drugs over the wall. Porvaznik said drones will make up to 30 trips back and forth each night, carrying approximately a kilogram of drugs northbound.

Porvaznik points to a framed photograph in his office that shows an “octocopter,” an eight-propeller unmanned aerial system that goes for $16,000. Border Patrol’s aerial surveillance trucks detected it flying through U.S. airspace near the border transporting 25 pounds of cocaine over the border.

“It’s dark, and they’re silent,” said Porvaznik. “We've had numerous instances of drones working in [the] San Luis area, bringing over load after load, and they just keep making trips all night. At times, they overload them, and they crash. And so, our agents have found them with dope strapped to them."

Yuma agents have been able to track where some drugs are dropped and then pursue drivers who transport it. Agents do not have a way to force a drone and are still in the process of detecting them.
