What's more, Mexico generally benefits from shipping its surplus uneducated population to the states to take the pressure valve off the potential for unrest. GRAPHIC PHOTO EXCLUSIVE: Seven Cartel Gunmen Killed in Western Mexican State Clashes

Michoacan Shootout
Breitbart Texas / Cartel Chronicles

Seven cartel gunmen died and several other individuals sustained gunshot wounds during a series of shootouts in western Mexico. The region experienced several days of fighting as gunmen from La Familia Michoacana fought against gunmen from Cartel Jalisco New Generation.

The violence took place on Monday when gunmen from a cell from La Familia Michoacana clashed with gunmen from Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG) near the town of Tlalpujahua in the eastern part of Michoacan. In that clash, multiple gunmen died, however, details of the confrontation have not been released by Mexican authorities. Breitbart Texas obtained photographs of the convoys of gunmen showing over a dozen vehicles moving along the rural roads in Michoacan.

Soon after that shootout, a group of Mexican Army soldiers made their way to the region to intercept the gunmen. A group of gunmen from CJNG ambushed the soldiers near Ciudad Hidalgo, Michoacan. During that shootout, the military forces claim the gunmen were riding in three vehicles when the attack took place.

According to information released by the Mexican Army, the soldiers fought off the attack. During the fighting, one soldier died. In their statement, the military claims six gunmen also died in the shootout.

Photographs from the clashes in the region point to some of the gunmen having been killed inside buildings and not in the three SUVs as described by military reports. It remains unclear if those gunmen were killed in the previous shootout.

The eastern part of Michoacan experienced numerous shootouts in recent months as factions of La Familia Michoacana continue fighting against CJNG over control of drug trafficking and drug production areas in the region.

Law enforcement officials are seeking a “Mexican male” in connection with a shooting that left five people dead in Cleveland, Texas, Friday night, Fox News reports.

The San Jacinto Sheriff’s Office received a “harassment” call and responding deputies found four victims shot to death and an eight-year-old boy critically wounded.

The boy was transported to a hospital, where he died.

All of the victims are believed to be from Honduras, according to San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers.

Capers said his office received the “harassment” call at 11:31 p.m.

Capers said law enforcement is actively searching for the “Mexican male subject” believed to be the shooter and have “a copy of his consulate card.”

He said the Mexican man “has been known to shoot his .223 in the front yard, which is evident from the shell casings in the front yard.”

Capers believes the suspect has fled the area.

UPDATE:

ABC News reports that San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers believes the homicides occurred after the suspect became enraged over being asked to quit shooting a gun in his front yard.
Capers said, “My understanding is that the victims, they came over to the fence and said ‘Hey could [you not do your] shooting out in the yard? We have a young baby that’s trying to go to sleep,’ and he had been drinking and he says ‘I’ll do what I want to in my front yard.'”
He also noted that two of the five shooting victims were lying on top of children who survived the attack. Capers said, “In my opinion, they were actually trying to take care of the babies and keep [the] babies alive.”
The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Francisco Oropeza, a Mexican national.
The Associated Press reports:
Capers said there were 10 people in the house — some of whom has just moved there earlier in the week — but that that no one else was injured. He said two of the victims, all believed to be from Honduras, were found laying over two children in a bedroom.

Two other victims, a male and female, were found by the front door and the slain child was in the front room. Capers said three other “blood-covered” children were found in the home and taken to a hospital, where they were determined to be uninjured.

[…]

Three of the victims were women and one was a man. Their names were not released. Capers said the victims were between the ages of 8 and about 40 years old.

Capers said his deputies had been to Oropeza’s home at least once before and spoken with him about “shooting his gun in the yard.” It was not immediately clear whether any action was taken at the time.

EXCLUSIVE: Biden Admin Releases Migrants into South Texas — Again

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The downtown streets of this South Texas border community are once-again awash with recently released migrants waiting to depart the border city to other parts of the country. Breitbart Texas interviewed several dozen migrants on Friday, all from Venezuela, who spoke of the long journey to the United States and the conditions suffered while waiting in Mexico for the end of the Title 42 COVID-19 expulsion authority.

Just-released migrants congregated outside the La Plaza Bus Terminal and a nearby charity shelter that receives the migrants directly from the Border Patrol. The migrants Breitbart Texas interviewed were mostly single adult male and female Venezuelan nationals. One Venezuelan woman, Daniela from Caracas, was with her young son. As they sat patiently on a downtown bench near the bus terminal, Daniela described her dire predicament.

The Venezuelan woman told Breitbart she was able to pay for one night’s stay at a hotel after her release from a Border Patrol holding facility. She feared immediate expulsion to Mexico under the COVID-19 emergency order but instead was released after a short stay in custody. The 29-year-old Daniela says she is headed to Naples, Florida, where she has distant relatives. She explained she has spent what little money she had on one night’s lodging and believes she may sleep on the streets if her relatives do not send funds to assist her with travel.

Miguel, a 32-year-old Venezuelan national said he became separated from his Peruvian wife after they surrendered to the Border Patrol after crossing the Rio Grande. The couple met after Miguel fled from Venezuela more than four years ago. Miguel lived in Peru as a refugee due to the severe poverty in his hometown of San Carlos in Venezuela. As Miguel sat alone on the sidewalk, he explained he was waiting for his wife, who is being detained by the Border Patrol.

Miguel claims his wife’s status as a citizen of Peru means she will be processed differently than him. He hopes he will be reunited with her upon her release. He did not know for sure what her fate would be. He claims the Venezuelan migrants are kept separate from other nationalities while in custody and men are separated from the women even if they are married.

Miguel described the months-long journey from the southern border of Mexico and the delay in receiving authorization to travel through Mexico from Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM). Miguel told Breitbart Texas he was robbed by law enforcement officers in Mexico City and left with no funds to purchase food or shelter as he and his wife traveled across Mexico to the United States.

Miguel says he and his wife spent more than a month in a migrant encampment in Matamoros, Mexico, as they waited to cross into the United States. “The conditions in the camp were cold, horrible, and unsanitary,” he added in Spanish.

Throughout the morning and early afternoon, busloads of migrants driven by Border Patrol agents and contract bus drivers arrived near a migrant charity shelter in the heart of downtown Brownsville. The buses were met by a crew of hospitality volunteers from the shelter who quickly ushered the migrants into the facility.  Occasionally, the shelter doors would open as volunteers led the migrants to the nearby La Plaza bus terminal across the street.

Once inside, migrants purchased tickets to numerous parts of the United States. Those that Breitbart spoke with claimed to be headed to Tennessee, Florida, New York, and Virginia. A very small number said that having no sponsors or relatives in the United States, they preferred to stay in Texas.

Several of the migrants displayed their newly issued DHS smartphones. The phones are part of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Alternatives to Detention Program (ATD) program. On the devices, migrants can let ICE know their whereabouts and monitor messages related to their asylum petitions. Some of the migrants, including Miguel, were released without the ICE smartphone. Miguel says he was provided a piece of paper that told him to report to ICE at an unspecified time and location.

According to a source within Customs and Border Protection, not authorized to speak to the media, nearly 700 migrants are released into downtown Brownsville daily. As reported by Breitbart Texas, nearly 2,000 migrants crossed from Matamoros, Mexico into Brownsville on Thursday. Since Sunday, the source says nearly 7,000 migrants have crossed the Rio Grande hoping to also gain their release into the United States.

The migrant releases in downtown Brownsville are occurring as the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security announced new immigration measures on Thursday that aim to stem the flow of migrants entering the United States.

The measures include increased use of the expedited removal authority. Authorities promised to double the number of refugees admitted from the Western Hemisphere. In addition, the announcement promises the United States will continue to accept up to 30,000 individuals per month from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti as part of the expanded parole processes announced earlier this year.

According to Miguel, the Venezuelan migrants crossing into the United States have sold everything they own to finance their journey from countries that have provided refuge to them like Colombia and Peru. For Miguel, the rule changes and promises to allow more migrants to enter are irrelevant — “We have no choice but to cross into the United States at this point.”

GRAPHIC: Cartel Violence in Mexico Continues to Escalate near Border State Capital

Jimenez Shooting
Breitbart Texas / Cartel Chronicles

Cartel violence continues to escalate in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, particularly around its capital and surrounding communities as the Gulf Cartel seeks to expand its territories. This move by the cartel brought a rise in violence that is negatively impacting local communities.

The Matamoros faction of the Gulf Cartel has been sending teams of gunmen since last year into Ciudad Victoria, the capital of Tamaulipas, and several of its surrounding communities. As Breitbart Texas has reported, the territory expansion undertaken by the Gulf Cartel is directly linked to the arrival of current Tamaulipas Governor Americo Villarreal. The Gulf Cartel expanded into the central and southern parts of the state after his swearing-in and began to extort local ranchers, farmers, and businessmen.

In the case of the rural communities around Ciudad Victoria such as Jimenez and Abasolo, the increaseing violence carried out by Gulf Cartel gunmen has been linked to numerous kidnappings, highway robberies, and extortions. The increased presence of the gunmen also led to several clashes with authorities.

In recent days, a group of cartel gunmen wearing tactical gear bearing the logo of the Gulf Cartel attacked a group of Tamaulipas police officers as they moved around the town of La Independencia — near the city of Jimenez. The police officers called for backup and attempted to fight off the gunmen. As additional police forces arrived, the gunmen fled along some dirt roads but ultimately authorities caught up with them. During the clash, police officers killed all four gunmen in the SUV.

The rural communities around Ciudad Victoria were previously under the control of Juan De Dios “Commander Caballero” or “Ciclon 26” Hernandez Ledezma. On April 11, state authorities arrested him and seven of his gunmen following a shootout. During that clash, authorities also arrested his brother Daniel “El Vizcaya” Hernández Vizcaya, who is described as a key operator for the Gulf Cartel who would force locals to take part in protests against military and police forces. Authorities turned Caballero and his gunmen over to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office for federal prosecution. Mexican authorities have not released any information about their current legal situation.

EXCLUSIVE: Border Patrol Resources in Texas Strained as Thousands of Migrants Cross From Mexico

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — As thunderstorms struck the border region, nearly 2,000 migrants crossed the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico hoping to gain release as the end of the COVID-19 Title 42 authority nears. Braving the heavy downpour on Thursday, Border Patrol agents and local authorities struggled to move the mostly Venezuelan migrants out of the weather.

A source within Customs and Border Protection, not authorized to speak to the media told Breitbart Texas that the migrant crossings are rising steadily each day. As reported by Breitbart Texas, more than 1,600 migrants were apprehended in a single twenty-four-hour period ending Sunday.

Since then, the source says nearly 7,000 migrants made the crossing into Brownsville. The increase in migrant crossings is also negatively impacting detention capabilities all along the southwest border. According to the source, more than 19,000 migrants are in temporary detention facilities awaiting processing. Of those, more than 7,000 are being held in detention facilities within the Texas Rio Grande Valley.

To address the sudden surge of migrants into Brownsville, a contingent of Border Patrol agents from Laredo has been dispatched to assist with the task of processing the arriving migrants.

The source told Breitbart Texas nearly 2,000 migrants crossed on Thursday alone. After crossing the Rio Grande, the migrants gathered near a make-shift intake center where biographical information was taken and personal property was inventoried.

On Thursday, as Breitbart Texas looked on, a mobile command center arrived at the make-shift intake center to assist in the arduous task of receiving the large number of migrants surrendering near the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Campus.

At the hastily set up intake center, the Border Patrol placed portable bathroom facilities to accommodate the increased migrant crossings. The migrants are transported from the intake center to processing centers in multiple areas in the Texas Rio Grande Valley as transportation resources become available.

In Matamoros, law enforcement authorities in Mexico seemed to show little concern as a constant flow of migrants crossed into the United States. As reported by Breitbart Texas, officers with Mexico’s National Institute of Migration watched on as migrants crossed the Rio Grande into Texas taking no action to impede the crossings.

While visiting a migrant encampment in Matamoros, Breitbart Texas observed several groups of migrants using inflatable air mattresses to ford the Rio Grande after being charged a fee.

Police pursuits in Kinney County, Texas, continue at an alarming rate as human smugglers attempt to avoid arrest. Texas Department of Public Safety officials tweeted dashcam video from two such pursuits from this week.

Texas DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Oliavarez tweeted a video this week from an April 18 vehicle pursuit in Kinney County. The pursuit led to the arrest of two women from Waco, Texas, for allegedly smuggling six migrants.

A search of the vehicle following the pursuit led to the discovery of marijuana, methamphetamine, and a stolen 9 mm pistol. The two women now face charges of smuggling, drug possession, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On April 15, troopers assigned to Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star engaged in another vehicle pursuit in Kinney County. Police eventually arrested the driver, a Galveston, Texas, resident, on felony charges of evading and smuggling of persons, Olivarez tweeted.

Earlier this week, Breitbart Texas reported on yet another alleged human smuggling pursuit where a female trooper grabbed multiple migrants who attempted to flee from a pickup truck and hide in the brush in Kinney County.

Olivarez identified the driver as a California man who said he was in Texas to visit family. He now faces criminal smuggling charges, Olivares stated.

In addition to the three migrants stopped by the trooper from fleeing, Border Patrol agents from the Del Rio Sector apprehended seven more migrants found hiding in the brush.

On April 10, DPS troopers arrested a couple from Gonzalez, Texas, after they allegedly attempted to smuggle a group of migrants in Kinney County.

Breitbart Texas reported on yet another Kinney County human smuggling incident where sheriff’s deputies arrested a Houston ISD school teacher for allegedly smuggling a group of four migrants.
Kinney County Sheriff Brad Coe told Fox26 Houston that approximately 40 percent of the human smugglers arrested in his county come from the Houston area. He blamed social media recruiting ads.

'Harm Reduction': California Democrats Kill Legislation to Crack Down on Fentanyl Dealers

A Seattle man smokes fentanyl / Getty Images
April 28, 2023

Progressive California lawmakers bent to political pressure and revived a handful of bills this week to crack down on fentanyl dealers—only to turn around and kill or weaken most of the measures.

With overdose deaths accelerating in California, the State Assembly public safety committee on Thursday blocked two of the bills, which would have strengthened punishments for dealers who kill or seriously injure someone with fentanyl or are caught with enough of the synthetic drug to kill thousands of people. The panel also loosened a proposed ban on dealers carrying guns before punting the bill along with a measure to increase penalties for fentanyl trafficking on social media.

"Despite all the talk, the extremist legislators who opposed these bills guaranteed that innocent Californians will continue to die, victims of drug dealers profiting off poisoning our communities," Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher said in a statement after the hearing. "These bills were not criminalizing addiction, returning to the ‘war on drugs,’ or any other lie told by the pro-fentanyl lobbyists. They were reasonable, bipartisan proposals to save lives."

California Democrats, who dominate the state legislature and government, signaled once again on Thursday that they remain committed to a years-long progressive push to roll back criminal penalties for drug-related crimes. That’s despite public pressure to do something about the fentanyl epidemic, which has killed more people in California than in any other state.

The Assembly's public safety committee only agreed to even debate the bills targeting fentanyl dealers after Republican lawmakers last week threatened to force a floor vote on the measures.

On Tuesday, the California Senate public safety committee—which like its Assembly counterpart is stacked with progressives—voted down for the second time a bipartisan bill that would have let law enforcement advise fentanyl dealers that their pills can be deadly. If those dealers sold fentanyl again and killed someone, they could have then faced second-degree murder charges. A similar law for drunk drivers has been on the books for years.

During Thursday's hearing in the Assembly, Democrats were often on defense against allegations that they simply oppose action to address the fentanyl crisis. Several progressive lawmakers unfavorably likened the bills on offer to the war on drugs and touted "harm reduction" programs as a superior alternative to jailing fentanyl dealers.

"We are doing something," said assemblywoman Mia Bonta (D.), the wife of California attorney general Rob Bonta, citing California’s $61 billion investment in harm reduction programs, including widespread distribution of overdose medication and test strips that can detect the presence of fentanyl in other drugs. "Not enough, but we have been doing something."

Public safety committee chair Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D.) pointed to Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new directive for California police officers to start coordinating crackdowns on fentanyl traffickers. Newsom, who has not weighed in on the fentanyl legislation, left the state just ahead of the hearings.

Assemblyman Jim Patterson, the only Republican to present a bill to the committee, criticized Democrats’ harm reduction approach as inadequate.

"The reality is that we have dealers in Fresno with 2,000 pills, that the worst you can do is a misdemeanor," he told the panel. "They’re out in two days. If we really cared about the addicts, wouldn’t we also care that their dealers are out on the street, churning more and more?"

The committee did advance three relatively incremental measures against fentanyl dealers: one to boost their sentences to match those of cocaine and heroin sellers; another to push law enforcement cooperation against them; and a third to launch a task force to study fentanyl trafficking.

Jones-Sawyer promised a follow-up hearing in May to look at a "holistic" strategy that includes more money for treatment, education, and overdose medication.

Adam Carolla: Gavin Newsom Is a ‘Sociopathic Buffoon’

Podcaster and comedian Adam Carolla has low regard for Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), who is apparently positioning himself for a future presidential run on the heels of a national tour.

During an appearance on FNC’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Carolla ripped Newsom, calling him a “sociopathic buffoon.”

“OK, a couple of things. He came on my podcast nine years ago, and he told me his number one issue was homeless and homelessness. He was — that was his number one issue. I said to him the homeless population — this is 10 years ago — is comprised of drug addicts and people with mental disabilities and/or both. He then said to me, sitting three feet across from me, but what about the true face of homelessness, which is a mother of three who has a full-time minimum wage job, whose husband left her. So that was his idea of solving a problem, and he declared himself as the number one issue is homelessness, and that is what he thought homeless was in California.”

“Of course, it’s grown exponentially, and no one has ever seen a mother of three with a full-time job out on the street,” Carolla . Weinued. “He is a sociopathic buffoon, but the scary part is people vote for him. It’s really you and I, we don’t need to solve the riddle of Gavin Newsom. He’s a carpet bagger. He’s an idiot. He’s bought and sold. He’s a sociopath. He puts Brylcreem on his teeth, fine. Why do people vote for him? That’s the real question that we need to solve.”

California Sheriff: Act for Safer Communities Fueled Addiction, Homeless Rates — ‘We Were Lied To’

Legislation aimed at making neighborhoods and schools safer has fueled California’s addiction and homelessness problems, a sheriff said recently, even as his department works to combat those issues.

“When we stopped enforcing drug rules and laws, we started seeing a major, major, major increase in what we see now as the severe mental health problems of people that are living on the street,” Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco explained during an interview with Fox News.

According to Bianco, many homeless people suffer from crippling drug addiction, which can make them uncontrollable. Therefore, officials are sometimes unsure how to act or react to them because their behavior can be unpredictable.

He blamed the issues on Proposition 47, which voters approved in 2014, the Fox report continued:

Also referred to as the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, Prop 47 changed crimes like theft of goods under $950 and drug possession from felonies to misdemeanors and ultimately reduced California’s prison population by more than 13,000 inmates. More than half the money saved on prison costs is earmarked for mental health services, substance use disorder treatment and other programs.

In August 2015, Breitbart News noted that Proposition 47 coincided with rising crime in areas of the state.

“Conservative columnist Debra Saunders, who is the lone conservative columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, argues in her latest syndicated column that the release of roughly 3,700 inmates has decreased public safety,” it was reported at the time.

The Associated Press

In November, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and local lawmakers were fighting over who should take responsibility for the state’s rampant homelessness, according to Breitbart News.

The outlet noted that “the state reportedly has over 116,000 residents sleeping on the streets — the most in the United States — in addition to being one of the most expensive housing markets across the country.”

Meanwhile, Bianco expressed astonishment that voters did not research before casting their ballot.

He added that “they trusted the government to be honest to them when they said it was safe schools and safe streets because everybody’s for that. But we were lied to.”

The sheriff claims people were told there would be mass incarceration for simple drug possession, therefore, Proposition 47 seemed like a good option.

Those who went to court were told they could go to jail or enter drug diversion and most of them chose diversion, the sheriff explained.

The Fox report added:

Across the state, 67% of drug courts surveyed by the Center for Court Innovation reported their caseloads decreased after the passage of Prop 47. Even among the defendants who were referred to the courts following the change in drug charge classification, many refused to enroll in diversion programs, suggesting the courts have less leverage to push addicts to seek help, researchers wrote.

According to Bianco, not being able to push them into treatment has caused more mental health issues and crime when it comes to drugs.

How Many Deaths Will It Take Before Biden Forcefully Addresses the Fentanyl Crisis?

Even kids under 5 are dying from overdoses.

PENN HILLS, Pennsylvania — When the Penn Hills police and paramedics arrived at the modest suburban Pittsburgh home in the 8100 block of Chaske Street on Jan. 14, they found the father of 7-month-old Zhuri Bogle desperately performing CPR on his infant daughter. It was 6:44 a.m., and with the exception of a few flurries swirling in the brisk winter air, the sky was still as dark as midnight.

The first responders immediately took over from the father and administered CPR on the unresponsive baby for the next 21 minutes. At 7:05 a.m., Zhuri was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local police immediately requested the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit assist in the investigation; those detectives, in turn, launched an investigation into the baby’s death.

Two months later, the Allegheny County medical examiner announced Zhuri died from acute fentanyl toxicity. The detectives on the case also determined that Zhuri’s grandmother and her “friend,” David Poindexter, age 58, were watching Zhuri when the baby overdosed.

On Friday, Poindexter was served with an arrest warrant and charged with involuntary manslaughter and recklessly endangering another person.

In January, 10-month-old Senna Matkovic had luck, a fast-acting nanny and nearby paramedics on his side when he survived exposure to fentanyl. He was playing with his twin brother at San Francisco’s Moscone Park when it happened. Within 10 seconds of Fire Rescue Captain Robert Kuzma administering Narcan, the child went from supine, unresponsive and blue to breathing and crying for his parents.

Kuzma said it was not his first pediatric opioid overdose in his career. Tragically, it likely won’t be his last.

The number of young children under 5 who have died from overdoses in the U.S. has increased significantly in the past few years, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics. The highest number of those fatal poisonings of children comes from opioids.

The study, which relied on records for all children 5 and younger from the National Fatality Review-Case Reporting System, showed that two-fifths of the children who died were infants and that 65% of those deaths happened at home. Nearly a third of those occurred under the supervision of someone who was not their biological parent, as in the case of Zhuri.

We have looked the other way as opioid addiction and abuse in the U.S. has gone from zero to a grotesque and infinite epidemic. It now endangers every aspect of life. Our public health has degraded, our economic output has suffered and our national security has been breached so brazenly and without consequence that it is hard to grasp. Even infants are not safe. Yet we do nothing.

In the past 23 years alone, over 1 million people in the U.S. have died of drug overdoses, almost exclusively opioids, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. By the end of this week, 1,500 people will have overdosed on opioids and died. By the end of next week, 1,500 more people will have overdosed and died from an opioid, and the week after that, and the week after that.

China is the main manufacturer of the ingredients needed to create fentanyl. They find their way from China to the southern border, where the drug cartels are happy to produce the drug and then hand it off to distribution networks to smuggle it across the porous border.

The Biden administration “urged” Mexico and China to take strong action in their countries. Both countries responded that the problem wasn’t with them — it was with us.

With no consequences from the U.S. government, the drugs make their way into the U.S. Those carrying the drugs blend in easily with the record-breaking 2.76 million other illegal crossings that happened last year. They spread the drugs to cities, suburbs and rural communities in your backyard.

Fentanyl is 50 times more powerful than heroin and 100 times more potent than morphine. It is cheap to produce and deadly to the unsuspecting, such as children playing in a San Francisco park or coming into contact with an addicted caregiver.

Every year at the border, the number of seizures of the product gets higher. Every year, the amount that gets past law enforcement gets larger as well. Fentanyl is poisoning babies, teenagers and adults. Those in government in Washington, D.C., who were elected to protect us have done the opposite.

It is the border agents, law enforcement, first responders, doctors, firefighters and paramedics who are our last line of defense. It makes no sense that we accept the death of Zhuri as normal. It makes no sense that any parent must worry about sending a child to a public park and having him or her not come back alive. It makes no sense that this White House has not done something serious to call all of this out publicly, telling both China and Mexico unequivocally that this ends now.

We have allowed China to steal our intellectual property, outperform us in technology and military capabilities, supersede us in forming strategic alliances with our former allies, escape accountability over the spread of COVID-19, spy on us, out-manufacture us and now poison us. Still, we do nothing.

We have also allowed Mexico to take zero accountability for its hand in this, to turn the problem back on us. Last month, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said that in his country, they do not have a problem with fentanyl consumption. “Why don’t they take care of their problem of social decay?” he asked.

A little baby died here in western Pennsylvania — a victim of a series of failures by our government. When does the Biden administration say that enough is enough?

The Only Businesses Given Tax Breaks in Dem’s ‘Small Business Tax Equity’ Bill are Marijuana Sellers

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) introduced a bill Monday to provide tax breaks only to marijuana sellers.

Labeled the “The Small Business Tax Equity Act,” the bill actually helps only one specific type of small business: those that sell marijuana, in violation of the federal Controlled Substance Act.

As the Congressional Research Service explains, state laws legalizing marijuana are at odds with federal statue:

“It is increasingly common for states to have laws and policies allowing for medical and/or recreational use of marijuana—activities that violate the CSA.”

IRS Code Section 280E says that businesses selling controlled substances (such as marijuana) that violate federal law are not entitled to tax deductions for expenditures:

§280E. Expenditures in connection with the illegal sale of drugs

“No deduction or credit shall be allowed for any amount paid or incurred during the taxable year in carrying on any trade or business if such trade or business (or the activities which comprise such trade or business) consists of trafficking in controlled substances (within the meaning of schedule I and II of the Controlled Substances Act) which is prohibited by Federal law or the law of any State in which such trade or business is conducted.”

The IRS notes that marijuana may deduct the cost of goods sold, just not overhead expenses:

“While IRS Code Section 280E is clear that all the deductions and credits aren’t allowed for an illegal business, there’s a caveat: Marijuana business owners can deduct their cost of goods sold, which is basically the cost of their inventory. What isn’t deductible are the normal overhead expenses, such as advertising expenses, wages and salaries, and travel expenses, to name a few.”

Blumenauer’s bill removes that restriction, not for other types of controlled substances, but only for marijuana:

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow deductions and credits relating to expenditures in connection with marijuana sales conducted in compliance with State law.

ALLOWANCE OF DEDUCTIONS AND CREDITS RELATING TO EXPENDITURES IN CONNECTION WITH MARIJUANA SALES CONDUCTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH STATE LAW.

(a)    IN GENERAL—Section 280E of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by inserting before the period at the end the following: ‘‘, unless such trade or business consists of marijuana sales conducted in compliance with State law’’.

(b)   EFFECTIVE DATE—The amendment made by this section shall apply with respect to taxable years ending after the date of the enactment of this Act.

Rep. Blumenauer is co-chair of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, which he founded in 2017.

March 20 is known as "420 Day," an unofficial annual holiday, during which enthusiasts celebrate their love of marijuana.

California Dems Go Easy on Fentanyl Dealers as Overdose Deaths Spike

A billboard in San Francisco / Getty Images
April 20, 2023

As San Francisco grapples with a spike in overdose deaths, California Democrats are waffling on efforts to crack down on drug dealers.

San Francisco's medical examiner on Tuesday reported that 200 people died of drug overdoses in the first quarter of 2023, at least a 40 percent increase over the past year. The majority of those overdoses were caused by fentanyl, the synthetic drug that has plagued the city in recent years. Even prior to the recent jump, San Francisco had one of the highest overdose rates in the country.

The city's overdose crisis does not seem to have motivated California Democrats, who as of this week have killed about a dozen bills to hold fentanyl dealers more accountable. Their reluctance to punish lethal drug dealers comes after a years-long progressive push to roll back criminal penalties for drug-related crimes. Chief among the soft-on-crime groups lobbying in Sacramento is the Drug Policy Alliance, which was founded by the liberal billionaire George Soros and remains a leading critic of fentanyl crackdowns.

In response to San Francisco's overdose update, Democratic leaders in the State Assembly announced they would grant hearings for five bills aimed at curbing the fentanyl trade. Each of the bills had been blocked by the Assembly's progressive-dominated public safety committee, whose chairman, Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D.), this week dismissed plans to raise penalties for fentanyl dealers as failing "to address key components of the problem."

This announcement followed a Tuesday press conference by Assembly Republicans, who, flanked by families of fentanyl victims, warned they would bypass the committee altogether and try to bring legislation directly to the Assembly floor. Most of the five bills that will get another chance are authored by Democrats.

But even Democrat-backed bills have foundered in the Legislature, which can't even seem to agree on proposals that would give fentanyl dealers the same treatment the state gives drunk drivers. Under these proposals, fentanyl dealers on their first arrest would be formally notified that their actions could be deadly. If the dealer is arrested again in conjunction with an overdose death, he or she could be charged with voluntary manslaughter or murder.

State senator Tom Umberg, the Democratic author of one of the bills, has not been able to get his bill through the chamber. Next week, he will have one last opportunity to introduce the bill before the Legislature finalizes the slate of bills it will consider this session. Umberg faces an uphill battle. The Republican author of the State Assembly's version of the same proposal said he's dropping the bill because it has been killed too many times.

One of the lawmakers who blocked Umberg's bill is Democratic state senator Scott Wiener, who on Wednesday bemoaned the city's latest fentanyl overdose report. Wiener, who represents San Francisco, is a major force behind California's soft drug policies. Wiener frequently pitches bills to relax penalties for drug dealing and possession and has carried measures in the Legislature at the behest of the Drug Policy Alliance. Wiener late last month helped block Umberg's bill over pleading objections from San Francisco's district attorney.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) has been similarly reticent to crack down on fentanyl dealers. The governor last month unveiled a "master plan" to fight fentanyl abuse by spending millions of dollars on drug test strips, treatment programs, and overdose medication for communities and middle and high schools. While Newsom has pledged to hold "Big Pharma accountable" for opioids, he has not made a similar proclamation about drug dealers.

Newsom on Wednesday made an unannounced visit to San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood, the epicenter of the city's drug trade. Newsom was joined by members of his cabinet, including Attorney General Rob Bonta (D.), whose wife voted against the Assembly proposal to crack down on dealers. When a resident approached Newsom to ask how he planned to fix the city's fentanyl problem, the governor declined to give a substantive answer.

"What do you want me to do?" Newsom asked in reply. "You tell me what we need to do."

Feds Seize 5,000 Pounds of Meth Setting Record for California Border County

4U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of California

BOB PRICE

Federal and local law enforcement officials seized a record-setting load of cartel-connected methamphetamine in San Diego County, California. The drugs, loaded 20-foot box truck, weighed in excess of 5,000 pounds and are reported to be the largest seizure in San Diego County.

During the afternoon of July 7, federal officials observed a box truck enter the U.S. through the Otay Mesa Commercial Port of Entry, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California. Law enforcement agencies surveilled the truck to its destination in National City, California. The agents watched as the alleged drug smugglers unloaded the truck into a Dodge van.

At that point, law enforcement officers moved in and arrested Rafael Alzua, 37; Mario Contreras, 41; Ethgar Velazquez, 44; and Galdrino Contreras, 41, prosecutors stated. Officials listed all four suspects as residents of Tijuana, Mexico.

An inspection of the boxes revealed more than 5,000 pounds of drugs that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

“This is a significant accomplishment by our law enforcement partners,” U.S. Attorney Randy Grossman said in a written statement. “Due to stellar work by law enforcement agents, the government stopped more than 5,000 pounds of methamphetamine from being distributed on our streets.”

The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, Border Crime Suppression Team, Homeland Security Investigations, and the United States Border Patrol.

DEA Special Agent in Charge Shelly S. Howe stated, “This monumental seizure represents another win against drug cartels that fuel addiction in the United States. Because of our great partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, we will continue to disrupt the cartels’ flow of drugs into our cities.”

San Diego County Sheriff Anthony C. Ray added, “I am grateful for the hard work, vigilance, and steadfast dedication of our Sheriff’s Detectives, as well as our local, state, and federal partners. Our partnership and collaboration allow us to share information that is absolutely critical in keeping drugs from entering our streets and holding drug traffickers accountable.”

The four men from Mexico now face charges of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine. If convicted, each could face a prison term of ten years to life and a fine of up to $10 million.

Court records were not yet available in the document tracking system.

EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTS: Mexican Governor is the Nephew of a Cartel Boss in U.S. Custody

ILDEFONSO ORTIZ and BRANDON DARBY

The governor of a Mexican state plagued with cartel violence for years is the nephew of a cartel boss and a cousin to another. Both face drug charges in a U.S court. Breitbart Texas obtained birth certificates confirming the familial relationships between the governor and the crime bosses. The politician has denied such familial connections in the past.

This week, Adalberto Fructoso “Fruto” Comparan Rodriguez, the former mayor of Aguililla, Michoacan, and son Adalberto Fructoso Comparan Bedolla, along with four other cartel members, went before a federal judge in Florida this week. They were notified of the drug charges against them and were ordered to be held without bond.
Breitbart Texas obtained Mexican birth certificates showing the relationships between current Michoacan Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla and the accused through marriage. La Silla Rota had published information about Ramirez’s relatives during his gubernatorial race in 2021, but only now do documents publicly confirm the connections.

The wife of Comparan Rodriguez is Anabel Bedolla Marin from Aguililla, Michoacan — a region under the control of Carteles Unidos.

Anabel Bedolla is the sister of Maria de Jesus Bedolla Marin, who is the mother of the politician.

Ramirez Bedolla, born in Morelia, Michoacan, had previously tried to minimize his relationship by claiming his aunt and uncle were separated for more than 10 years and had no contact with them.

Comparan Rodriguez is accused of being one of the leaders of Carteles Unidos in Michoacan and responsible for large-scale shipments of meth into the U.S. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Comparan Rodriguez would hide the drugs inside concrete tiles and dilute meth in paint. Authorities in Guatemala arrested Comparan Rodriguez in March 2021 and helped get him extradited to the U.S. in January 2022. Authorities arrested his son, Comparan Bedolla, in March 2021 in Miami while they reportedly tried to remove liquid meth from paint.

Michoacan is one of the most violent states in Mexico due to a violent turf war between Carteles Unidos (a collection of smaller organizations and “self-defense” groups) against Cartel Jalisco New Generation for control of vast drug production areas and smuggling corridors. Mexico’s federal government has been unable to reduce violence in the region.

Biden's Deathly Presidency

By Jeffrey Folks

For four years under President Trump, America enjoyed peace, security, and unparalleled prosperity.  Trump's presidency was a historic era of good times in which we began to regain faith in the American Dream.  Now we have the nightmare, and the death and destruction that go with it.

Yes, the Trump Era was prosperous, with historically low unemployment rates, low inflation, energy independence, and rising wages.  But aside from that, the most important thing about Trump's presidency was the fact that Americans were secure, as they had not been under Obama and certainly are not under Biden.  Under Trump, America was in so many senses vibrant and "alive" with pride in our country and hope for its future.

Now we have regular mass shootings in which citizens disarmed by the State have no way to defend themselves.  Overseas, we have a war in Ukraine, the threat of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, and Iran developing nuclear weapons with the encouragement of the Biden administration.  The common thread is death and the fear that goes with it.  And this does not even include Biden's aggressive defense of abortion on demand.

Under President Trump, I lived without fear.  I knew that Trump supported my right to defend my home and that he supported the police who defended me as well.  Just having the president and his administration on my side made me breathe easier.  America was moving in the right direction, as was confirmed by every opinion poll during Trump's time in office before COVID was unleashed.

Long-term death rates are more a matter of demographics than policy, and they have been rising ever since Obama took office in 2008.  But murder rates, deaths in war and civil unrest, drug overdose deaths, and accidental deaths are attributable to policy, and they have been rising under Biden, even during his short time in office.  Under Biden, the U.S. murder rate, which had been declining under President Trump, is the highest in 25 years.  According to former N.Y. police commissioner Howard Safir, the spike in violence is partly attributable to lack of support for police and soft-on-crime prosecutors.  And it is Biden, with his anti-police rhetoric and refusal to prosecute (as in the case of those picketing Justice Kavanaugh's home), who is responsible for this climate of anarchy.

Now I plan my trips carefully, avoid eye contact with strangers, and carry only a driver's license and credit card.  I drive inconspicuously as well, given the explosion of road rage incidents.

The most galling thing is that Biden never says a word about the victims of crime unless he can twist the incident into an anti-gun lecture, and he takes no action to protect anyone, especially law-abiding citizens in middle-class neighborhoods like my own.  In this and so many other ways, he seems on the side of those who wish to destroy us.  It's no accident that murder rates are spiraling at home and war is breaking out overseas.  Both are a response to Biden's weakness, and death is the consequence.

I fear there will be more death ahead.  I expect an invasion in Taiwan, Moldova, or Finland, and new outbreaks of violence in the Middle East involving either Iran or its surrogates.  The incomprehensible Iran deal, which Biden is pushing, would "make Biden 'the biggest funder of terrorism in the world,'" according to Rep. Jim Banks.  "Terrorism" is not just a derogatory word; it is the act of murdering innocent human beings, including women and children.  Hasn't that fact entered into Biden's Iran deal calculations?

Biden's weakness has emboldened our enemies, and their actions pose a threat to our security.  This is the way major wars begin.  They can be prevented only by the projection of force of the kind we saw under President Trump, and Biden projects about as much force as a lady's fan.  His weakness will get us into another war, and our young men and women will die in that war.  There is death hanging over us, and Biden seems oblivious, fumbling with his note cards to find some kind of answer.

There is a new national mood in America unlike anything I've seen since the 1960s: a sense of foreboding and caution based on the very real threat of violence and collapse.  There are more threats to our country, including the wealth destruction of inflation, to which Biden simply rolls his eyes, chuckles, and whispers some idiotic riposte.  There are more criminal gangs, and Biden just welcomes more in.  There is more road rage, more random shooting, more felons out on no bond/low bond.  And there is a callous and brutal disregard for the lives of the unborn.

In response to the mounting violence, Biden seems remote, fuddling with his microphone like a man slipping into dementia, and those around him seem inept, if not callous, including his new press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, who is said to have "frequently stumbled" during her first weeks.  A president who is weak and advisers who are incompetent and anti-American to boot — that is a recipe for disaster, and disaster will end, as it always does, in poverty, destruction, and death.

There are bullies in the world who watched as Biden stumbled out of Afghanistan, and bullies don't have much respect for doddering fools who just want to survive a four-year term and leave a mess for someone else to clean up.

As a citizen, it is difficult to watch my country besieged by violence.  Biden's presidency has been deadly in every respect: turning off economic growth and imposing environmental restrictions, proposing inflation-adjusted cuts in national defense while paying off student loans, and putting citizens at risk with his anti-police rhetoric.

There is little chance of a second Biden term, but just another two and a half years is painful to imagine.  How many thousands will lose their lives because of one incompetent and wrong-headed leader?  How far will America go into danger and destruction?  And how much more difficult will it be for our next president, Trump or a Trump lookalike, to repair the damage and Make America Safe Again?

The same continent-wide superstate was pushed in 2001 by President G.W. Bush and Mexico’s then-president, Vicente Fox. “Heroin is not produced in the United States. Every gram of heroin present in the United States provides unequivocal evidence of a failure of border security because every gram of heroin was smuggled into the United States. Indeed, this is precisely a point that Attorney General Jeff Sessions made during his appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on October 18, 2017 when he again raised the need to secure the U.S./Mexican border to protect American lives.” Michael Cutler …..FrontPageMag.com
