Lara Trump: Broad coalition forming to close China's bat, cat, and dog meat markets

A politically diverse and broad coalition is forming to pressure China to close the wild food markets of bat, cat, and dog meat blamed for the outbreak of the coronavirus and a number of other pandemics, including the 2003 SARS epidemic.
Embraced by Lara Trump, Sen. Lindsey Graham, and several animal rights activists, including the Humane Society of the United States, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, and Animal Wellness Action, the goal is to pressure Beijing directly to close the markets like the one in Wuhan, which is believed to have sold an infected animal for a family “feast.”
While still a loose group of advocates, its efforts are starting to focus on stopping the reopening of the “wet markets,” another name for live and dead animal meat markets, in China, which claims the crisis is nearly over.
“It is undeniable that the risks posed by ‘wet markets’ are too great and the cruelty too severe to allow them to operate even one more day,” said Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law and top reelection campaign official. “I hope for the sake of humanity the country immediately discontinues this horrific and cruel tradition,” she told Secrets.
The effort has no official leader, but people close to Trump said that she would be open to helping build the coalition in a personal capacity unrelated to her campaign duties.
Trump has long been an animal advocate and has worked with the administration on key issues, including officially outlawing the consumption of dogs and cats in the U.S., pushing to close puppy mills, and linking ailing veterans with support animals. She is married to Eric Trump.

Graham has spoken out on the issue, joining the coronavirus task force’s Dr. Anthony Fauci, who said last week that markets should be closed “right away.”
Several online petitions have already taken off. PETA has one with over 100,000 signatures. It urges the World Health Organization to close the markets worldwide.
PETA’s Ashley Byrne said the virus is a “wake up call” to force the markets to close, including those in the U.S. — there are some 80 in New York that hawk birds and goats. “This absolutely should be a priority,” she said.
Humane Society President Kitty Block said, “The ongoing coronavirus crisis, which could result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans and millions of other people the world over, has taught us many important lessons about what we should and shouldn’t be doing in order to keep ourselves healthy. One of the most important is the link between wildlife markets, which cause so much animal suffering, and the public health risks of a pandemic.”
Animal Wellness Action, run by former Humane Society President Wayne Pacelle, has also posted a petition against China. He noted that the country has pledged to close the markets in the past but didn't.
"China's decision to pull back on its decision to close wet markets just days after announcing a ban on them is a public relations disaster," said Pacelle. "You can draw a straight line from the Chinese government's decision to promote wet markets as a business enterprise and the emergence of a deadly infectious disease that was the agent of this global catastrophe," he said.
Blair Brandt, an adviser to Lara Trump and a top GOP fundraiser in Florida, said he has been encouraged by Shenzhen's decision to ban the eating of dogs and cats. And he praised conservatives who have joined in the fight.
They include House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who just posted this on Facebook: “China is opening up its wet markets again. Have enough people not already died?! Has there not already been enough financial destruction around the world?!”
Brandt added, “Hopefully there can be some silver lining to the pain and suffering the world is going through. Right now, the immediate focus is, of course, on our health and our livelihoods, but let’s be clear-eyed at the same time that China shutting down their wet markets nationally and immediately ending the dog and cat meat trade should be a first step in protecting the global community and towards preventing this from ever happening again.”

Silicon Valley, and the Chinese Connection to Coronavirus Infection

After Feinstein was elected to the Senate in 1992, Blum continued profiting off their ties to China. A the same time, the freshman lawmaker was pitching herself as a “China hand” to colleagues, even once claiming “that in my last life maybe I was Chinese.” HARIS ALIC

IN THE November 2006 election, the voters demanded congressional ethics reform. And so, the newly appointed chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., is now duly in charge of regulating the ethical behavior of her colleagues. But for many years, Feinstein has been beset by her own ethical conflict of interest, say congressional ethics experts.

Senator Who Employed Chinese Spy Endorses Joe Biden for President

A high-profile U.S. senator with professional and personal ties to China — including once employing one of its spies — is backing former Vice President Joe Biden amid mounting questions over his son’s business dealings with the communist regime.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), a former chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, announced her endorsement of the former vice president on Tuesday, claiming to have witnessed Biden’s “fortitude” and leadership during their overlapping tenures in Congress.
Feinstein said in a statement:
I’ve worked closely with Vice President Biden and I’ve seen firsthand his legislative ability, his statesmanship, and most importantly his moral fortitude (NO, IT’S NOT A JOKE, BUT THEN FEINSTEIN IS THE MOST SELF-SERVING CORRUPT POL IN U.S. HISTORY). During his time in Congress and in the White House, Joe Biden has been a tireless fighter for hard working (ILLEGALS) MEXICAN families.

Broke: 60% can afford up to three months on savings; 4 in 10 would sell their blood

The financial crisis ravaging the nation as the coronavirus spreads is growing dire as people are tapping out their limited savings while waiting for stimulus checks from the IRS.
new survey of 1,000 people found that most have enough savings to last just three months. And of that 60%, 12% said that they could last "less than a week."

As a result, said the survey provided to Secrets by career advice site Zety.com, many of those idled by the crisis (or worried they will be) are already looking at expenses to cut and things to sell.
Among the top expenses that would be cut are streaming services and gym memberships.
Among the top items people would sell are jewelry and electronics, and some 36% would sell their blood. Some 7% would sell personal nude photos. About two-thirds would turn to a “side hustle” job.

“With so many people living above their means, a financial emergency could put them in a crisis. Selling off personal items might not be most people’s first choice for getting through an unexpected break in income, but it could be a temporary solution when short on cash,” said the survey analysis.
The survey is a grim portrait of a country struggling to overcome the virus while the economy is dead in the water. It is also a reminder that many do not make enough to cover monthly expenses and sock away enough to cover three to six months of expenses without a paycheck.
Congress and the White House OK’d a package recently to send most adults a $1,200 check, but it's taking a while to get out and comes as millions file for unemployment.

The Trump campaign released an online ad Thursday that portrays Joe Biden as being soft on China, hitting the former vice president for protecting “China’s feelings.”
“During America’s crisis, Biden protected China’s feelings,” the ad states, showing a montage of Biden with President Xi Jinping and news reports about how he was against President Trump’s coronavirus travel restrictions.
“Or perhaps China’s investment?” then flashes across the screen along with news segments about Hunter Biden’s dealings with China. A line is also used from a Peter Schweizer and Jacob McLeod story in the New York Post about how “Joe Biden met with Hunter’s Chinese partners,” during a 2013 trip to Beijing.
Despite his relative lack of private equity experience, Hunter landed a prominent role with the new company. Under the terms of the original deal, Rosemont Seneca, Hunter’s firm, shared a 30% stake in BHR with the Thornton Group, which was run by James Bulger, the son of longtime Massachusetts state Senate President Billy Bulger. Hunter and Bulger joined the board, along with Devon Archer, Hunter’s longtime business partner. Archer would also serve as vice chairman of the fund’s investment committee.
The value of these partnerships to BHR is clear. Its own website boasts: “BHR, with its unique mixed ownership, combines the resources and platforms of China’s largest financial institutions … and the networks and know-how of our U.S.-based investment fund and advisory firm shareholders.”
Hunter Biden claimed to the New Yorker that he and his partners have not seen any money from the BHR deal. But even if true, the potential payouts are significant. (New York Post)
The ad then shows Biden standing up for China even as the country “cripples America” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s in our self interest that China continue to prosper,” Biden says in one clip from a 2011 event when he spoke at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.
The last portion of the ad highlights praise for President Trump’s decision to put in place travel restrictions early on in the pandemic, which Biden had called “hysterical xenophobia” and “fearmongering.”
But then it appears Biden had forgotten about these criticisms of Trump, ending with Biden telling supporters, "I'm not going nuts."

Liberal media outlets are focusing on one part of the ad where Biden appears on stage with former Gov. Gary Locke of Washington, an Asian-American, claiming the ad falsely suggests he is Chinese.
But the Trump campaign defended the clip because it was from the vice president’s 2013 trip to the country with Hunter.
Conservatives praised the ad, saying Biden is "going to get crushed."

During a virtual town hall event on unemployment and issues facing working families, Joe Biden claimed that people refer to him as a “foreign policy expert.”
The comment came after the former vice president gave a long-winded response to a woman who had just lost her job and asked how laid off union workers can keep the healthcare coverage they had.
“As you and I have talked about this, senator, I’m always talked about as being a foreign policy expert, healthcare is more complicated than foreign policy,” he told Nevada state Sen. Yvanna Cancela, who moderated the event. “Healthcare is complicated. It really is daunting for an awful  lot of people.”
But Robert Gates, who served as President Obama's Defense Secretary, described Biden as being quite the opposite.
"I think he has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades,” he wrote in his book, "Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War."
Gates stood by that assessment in an interview with CBS "Face The Nation" host Margaret Brennan.
"I was rereading your memoir before we sat down to talk and you said in your memoir, Joe Biden is impossible not to like," she said.

"He's a man of integrity, incapable of hiding what he really thinks, and one of those rare people you know you could turn to for help in a personal crisis," Gates responded. "Still, I think he's been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."
