On Thursday’s broadcast of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass defended the city codifying its sanctuary city status and acknowledged that being a sanctuary city will spend city resources on migrants and also said that they can’t handle any more buses of migrants sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) or any other Republican officials because “we are in the middle of a crisis where we are not able to provide housing for Angelenos ” and more buses “would exacerbate that crisis.”
Bass said that she was surprised Los Angeles hadn’t officially codified its sanctuary city status, because “from my point of view, L.A. had been a sanctuary city from years ago. I did not realize it hadn’t been codified into law. The primary reason for that is to protect immigrants, because we don’t want the Los Angeles Police Department essentially doing the work of ICE, of immigration. Undocumented immigrants are vulnerable. And if they feel like they can’t report a crime, they can’t call public officials or they might be deported, then that compromises the safety of all Angelenos.”
Co-host Juana Summers then asked, “Well, the way I understand it, and I’m just reading from a news release here, this city ordinance ensures that no city resources, property, or personnel are to be used for federal immigration enforcement. So, does this mean, then, that being a sanctuary city essentially translates into Los Angeles is prepared to spend city resources, property, and personnel to help migrants find shelter and services? Is that something that you would stand by as the Mayor of the city?”
Bass answered, “Well, of course. This is a city of immigrants. We have people here from over 100 countries. And obviously, we want to make sure that anybody in our city is protected. We are also a city that has 40,000 unhoused people. And so, we are in the middle of a crisis where we are not able to provide housing for Angelenos. But that should never be an excuse for there to be an anti-immigrant sentiment. And what the governors are doing in these other cities is just a reflection of their xenophobia, of their anti-immigrant ideology. And it’s really political. This is in preparation for the 2024 election. The Republicans plan to run on an anti-immigrant platform, just like they have been doing pretty consistently over the last few years.”
Summers then asked, “But is this city, is Los Angeles in a position to absorb more busloads of migrants should Gov. Abbott or any other Republican leaders send more busloads this way?”
Bass answered, “No, that — well, that’s why I said if what happened to New York happened in Los Angeles, it would send a city that is already in a crisis and it would exacerbate that crisis.”

The nation’s illegal alien population has hit nearly 17 million, an increase of more than two million since President Joe Biden began implementing his Catch and Release network at the United States–Mexico border, an analysis reveals.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released its annual report estimating the size of the illegal alien population residing in the United States.
Based on the latest Census Bureau data, FAIR researchers found that there are at least 16.8 million illegal aliens now living in American communities — an increase of 2.3 million illegal aliens since Biden took office in January 2021 and an increase of 1.3 million illegal aliens since the same time last year.

As the illegal alien population skyrockets under Biden, so do the costs to Americans.
“Along with the sharp increase in the illegal alien population comes [sic ] sharp increases in costs to American taxpayers,” researchers note:
The unprecedented rate of influx of new illegal aliens over the past year would add $12.6 billion annually to the costs of illegal immigration, bringing the cumulative net cost to at least $163 billion a year. At the current pace of illegal immigration, the annual net cost will exceed $200 billion by 2026 . [Emphasis added]
“… [T]he fiscal and social burdens of the Biden administration’s sabotage of our immigration enforcement policies are unsustainable,” FAIR President Dan Stein said in a statement.

Researchers also state that at the current pace of illegal immigration, more illegal aliens will have resettled across the U.S. in Biden’s first three years in office than in the entire decade of the 2010s.
“The impact of these policies is causing social upheaval, setting states against other states, big cities against surrounding communities, overwhelming school districts and social service providers, as economic migrants from all across the globe pour across our borders,” Stein said.
Indeed, recent analysis has shown the impact that illegal immigration has on American public schools and hospital systems .
The House Homeland Security Committee detailed how illegal aliens are driving up costs for hospitals with billions in unpaid medical bills that American taxpayers are then forced to subsidize.
Likewise, the Center for Immigration Studies published research this week which reveals that mass immigration has tripled the number of public school students from immigrant-headed households in the U.S. since 1980 and, as a result, “added disproportionately to the number of low-income students in public schools.”

170K Migrants Apprehended in May at Southern Border Doubles Biden’s Inaugural Month Law Enforcement Photo 5:30
Border Patrol agents along the southwest border with Mexico apprehended nearly 170,000 migrants who crossed between ports of entry in May. While this is down from the more than 183,000 apprehended in April, it is more than double the 71,141 apprehensions in January 2021 — the month President Joe Biden took office.
Border Patrol agents in the nine southwest border sectors apprehended 169,244 migrants who crossed the border between ports of entry in May. This is down by less than eight percent from the 183,079 apprehended in April.
The apprehension numbers do not include an estimated 51,000 migrants who were classified as known got-aways, according to a CBP source not authorized to speak to the media. This brings the number of known migrant crossers to more than 220,000 migrants.
While the Biden administration credited the decrease in apprehensions to new border security and immigration policies, the number is an increase of nearly 125 percent from the 75,316 migrant apprehensions in January 2021 — Joe Biden’s inaugural month.
“As a result of comprehensive planning and preparation efforts, there has been a significant reduction in encounters along the Southwest border since the return to full Title 8 immigration enforcement on May 12,” Senior Official Performing the Duties of CBP Commissioner Troy A. Miller said in a written statement rolling out the May numbers. “As we continue to execute our plans –including delivering strengthened consequences for those who cross unlawfully while expanding access to lawful pathways and processes– we will continue to monitor changes in encounter trends and adjust our response as necessary.”
CBP officials continue claiming to operate a “safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.
“CBP has been executing the Department’s comprehensive plan to secure our borders and build a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system,” CBP officials wrote in the statement releasing the May Southwest Land Border Encounters Report. However, the Biden administration’s appointed Border Patrol sector chiefs continue to tweet examples showing the process is anything but “safe, orderly, and humane,” Breitbart Texas reported .
CBP officials continue to blame the CDC’s Title 42 migrant expulsion program for the high numbers in May:
More than half of the U.S. Border Patrol’s encounters in May occurred prior to the lifting of the CDC’s Title 42 public health Order. From May 1 – 11, U.S. Border Patrol encountered 98,850 individuals between ports of entry along the Southwest border. After the termination of the order as of 11:59 pm ET on May 11 through the end of the month on May 31, U.S. Border Patrol’s encounters between ports of entry along the Southwest border were 70,394.
With four months to go in the current fiscal year, agents appended 1,410,801 migrants. This compares to the 1,442,862 migrants apprehended during the same period last year.
Single adult migrants accounted for 114,886 of the 169,244 migrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents in May (68 percent). So far this year, agents apprehended nearly one million single adult migrants who crossed between ports of entry.
Family units and single unaccompanied minors account for 44,900 and 9,458 apprehensions, respectively.
The apprehension of Chinese migrants at the southern border continues at a historic rate. During May, agents apprehended 2,769 Chinese migrants. This is more than the entire year totals for FY22 and FY21 combined (2,293). So far this fiscal year, agents apprehended 12,480 Chinese nationals along the southwest border with Mexico.
Migrants from Mexico and the Central American northern triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras accounted for 54,140 migrants in May. Another 23,154 came from Venezuela.

Sony’s animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has released an ad in partnership with a George Soros-backed group whose goal is to import more cheap immigrant labor.
The American Immigration Council (AIC) is taking credit for the PSA — but instead of mentioning immigration, the Hollywood partnership is being marketed as a plea for “belonging,” with the goal of creating a “more welcoming nation.”
The Spider-Man tie-in consists of a 30-second video featuring characters from the hit sequel accompanied by a voice-over urging greater acceptance of others.
“It doesn’t take a superhero to bring forces together. We all have the power to reach out and help someone feel like they belong,” the narrator says.

Spider-Man is partnering with a group called Belonging Begins with Us, which is a project of AIC — the Soros-backed organization that is trying to flood the country with cheap labor by pushing for more immigration as well as amnesty for some illegal aliens.
Belonging Begins with Us works with the Ad Council to partner with prominent brands and entertainment titles in an attempt to push its soft message of “belonging” and “welcoming.”
“Belonging” has emerged as a key marketing buzzword for the AIC, which defines it as a “fundamental human need, and one that is linked to many of the most complex challenges of our time.” The organization has even published a study titled “The Belonging Barometer,” which calls for greater acceptance of “non-citizen immigrants” and other groups.
“The Americans who report being treated as ‘less than’ tend to be younger, first-generation or non-citizen immigrants, identify as non-Hispanic white, or identify as a gender minority,” the study concludes. “The range of demographic categories who reported being treated as ‘less than others.'”
The Hollywood push comes amid falling support for immigration, as the Biden administration’s open-border policies have resulted in an unprecedented tsunami of illegal border crossings.
As Breitbart News reported , a YouGov poll found a growing plurality of citizens alongside almost two out of three Republicans say immigration makes the nation “worse off.”
Spider-Verse 2, which is a Marvel Studios production, is poised to become one of the biggest movies of the summer. The sequel has so far grossed $225 million domestically and is in the midst of its global rollout.

Wanted Killers Among 2 Million Illegal Aliens Freed into U.S. by Biden’s DHS ICE/Nathan Howard/Bloomberg 5:33
Wanted killers are among the more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens that Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) estimates have been released into the United States since President Joe Biden took office in late January 2021.
Late last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a 50-year-old illegal alien from Brazil, and a member of the nation’s largest criminal gang known as Primeiro Comando Da Capital, who was convicted of murder.
The illegal alien gang member first crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near San Luiz, Arizona, in March of this year. At the time, he was apprehended by Border Patrol agents and put into deportation proceedings.
Subsequently, thanks to the Biden administration’s expansive catch and release network, the illegal alien gang member was given a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge and released into the nation’s interior.
RJ Hauman, president of the newly-formed National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE), told Breitbart News that the illegal alien gang member’s case “is yet another dangerous example of flaws in the ‘vetting’ that the Biden Administration says occurs when illegal aliens are encountered at the border and then released into the country.”
“The Border Patrol has no access to foreign criminal databases. The only way they would know about an illegal alien’s criminal record is if they committed a crime while here. So what are we supposed to do, believe everything an illegal alien says?” Hauman continued. “[F]ortunately, the brave men and women of ICE saved the day. When will their open-borders political leaders finally be held accountable?”
NICE, like the majority of Americans, backs full enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws — supporting ICE agents’ authority to quickly and easily arrest and deport illegal aliens.
In a similar case, twice-deported illegal alien Edickson Paulino Castano, 52 years old, was recently deported for the third time from the U.S. after he had been released into the U.S. interior on an order of supervision in September 2021.
Castano is wanted for murder in his native Dominican Republic.
John Fabbricatore, an advisory board member for NICE and a retired ICE Field Office Director, told Breitbart News that Biden’s “laissez-faire attitude” toward enforcement is resulting in “illegal aliens, including violent criminals continually being released” into the U.S. interior.
“The Border Patrol is being instructed to quickly process and release as fast as they can into the interior of the country. They take whatever they’re told as the truth, and the illegal alien is long gone before international warrants can be discovered,” Fabbricatore continued:
Criminal cases are dangerously being pushed into our communities in blatant disregard of federal law. While [Enforcement and Removal Operations] Boston did a great job of making this arrest, we can’t ignore the fact that an illegal alien murderer was released into the country. INTERPOL notices can take days or a few weeks to send out an alert for an update for an investigation. [Emphasis added]
The blatant disregard of federal law by the Biden administration is putting this country in danger. How many convicted criminals have been allowed to enter or have entered undetected since the start of this administration? How many known or suspected terrorists? Congress must get to the bottom of this, and fast. [Emphasis added]
Both illegal aliens are among the more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens that Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released into American communities since early 2021.
During a recent hearing by the House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, Chairman McClintock noted that such a foreign population, “deliberately released into this country,” is equivalent to the population of Nebraska.

Those released into the U.S. interior by DHS are not the only illegal aliens to be added to the nation’s population since Biden took office.
“Meanwhile, more than a million and a half known got-aways have also entered illegally, an additional illegal population the size of Hawaii,” McClintock said:
For Americans, it means classrooms flooded with non-English speaking students, hospitals overwhelmed with illegal immigrants demanding care, fentanyl poisoning our young people, catastrophic strains on the social safety net meant to help Americans in need … working wages suppressed by a flood of cheap, illegal labor. [Emphasis added]
And now we observe the irony of officials in so-called sanctuary cities like New York and Chicago and sanctuary states like California warning that they cannot handle this influx. [Emphasis added]
Former Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Joseph Edlow told the subcommittee that Biden’s DHS was focused on giving mass parole to border crossers and illegal aliens to get them into the nation’s interior but now is using NTAs to mass release those arriving at the southern border.
“For the most part, there are more interests in — it was paroling people in — now it’s giving Notices to Appear and letting people go along their way,” Edlow said. “There is not an interest in detaining as far as I can see.”

More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.
The latest Census Bureau data analyzed by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that about 72 percent of households headed by noncitizens and immigrants use one or more forms of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in California — the number one immigrant-receiving state in the U.S.
Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of households headed by native-born Americans use welfare in California.
All four states with the largest foreign-born populations, including California, have extremely high use of welfare by immigrant households. In Texas, for example, nearly 70 percent of households headed by immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare. Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of native-born households in Texas are on welfare.
In New York and Florida, a majority of households headed by immigrants and noncitizens are on welfare. Overall, about 63 percent of immigrant households use welfare while only 35 percent of native-born households use welfare.
President Trump’s administration is looking to soon implement a policy that protects American taxpayers’ dollars from funding the mass importation of welfare-dependent foreign nationals by enforcing a “public charge” rule whereby legal immigrants would be less likely to secure a permanent residency in the U.S. if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, including using Obamacare, food stamps, and public housing.
The immigration controls would be a boon for American taxpayers in the form of an annual $57.4 billion tax cut — the amount taxpayers spend every year on paying for the welfare, crime, and schooling costs of the country’s mass importation of 1.5 million new, mostly low-skilled legal immigrants.
As Breitbart News reported , the majority of the more than 1.5 million foreign nationals entering the country every year use about 57 percent more food stamps than the average native-born American household. Overall, immigrant households consume 33 percent more cash welfare than American citizen households and 44 percent more in Medicaid dollars. This straining of public services by a booming 44 million foreign-born population translates to the average immigrant household costing American taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare.

Liberal California Emigrants are Toxic By R. Quinn Kennedy
When Arizona, a state that has historically leaned conservative, was won by Joe Biden and now-senator Mark Kelly this week, very few were taken by surprise. Extensive polling indicated Arizona was ripe for swinging liberal and in this instance, at least, the polling was correct.
The question is why? Why has a state that held two elected Republican senators as recently as 2018 and which held a dependable stable of electoral votes for GOP presidential candidates become a purple state on its way to becoming solidly blue? Have Arizona residents suddenly awaked to the idea that liberal policies and doctrines are more sensible than conservative ones? Hardly.
The answer regarding Arizona’s swing lies in its neighbor to the west, California. Since 2012, California has overwhelmingly sent more transplants to Arizona than any other state. When surveyed, escaping Californians cite high taxes, high crime rates, unaffordable housing, out-of-control homelessness, and high unemployment rates as their top reasons for fleeing.
Who is responsible for creating such an alarming living environment within the state? California liberals. A November, 2020 report produced by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University stated that California has 395,608 regulatory restrictions. The sheer volume and scope of California regulations creates such a compliance nightmare that they kill entire industries, send housing prices to unattainable heights, and restrict even commonplace liberties for which conservative leaning states are known.
Piled onto California’s endless river of regulations are its nonsensical laws and policies. Twenty major metropolitan cities or counties in California have established laws, ordinances, regulations, or other practices that shield illegal immigrants from prosecution after committing a crime. These counties brazenly safeguard illegal immigrant criminals against deportation either through noncompliance or by refusing to hand them over to federal agencies such as ICE. With over $1.5 trillion in state and local government debt, California effectively has little money to spare for conveniences such as criminal incarceration. What do sanctuary cities and counties see as the alternative to handing illegal immigrant criminals over for deportation? Release them back into the general population, of course.
Consider this: Between 2014 and 2017, the FBI reported that 49 states saw an average increase in crime annually of around 3%. After implementing “humane” alternatives to criminal prosecution, California crime increased more than 12% per year over the same time period . With irrational sanctuary policies that send a clear message of little to no consequence for offenses, is it any wonder California’s crime rate is now spiraling out of control?
Arizona is not the only beneficiary of the California exodus. The Colorado State Demography Office has published an active flow map of people moving into the state from 2010 on. Disturbingly, the state sending the most movers to Colorado since then has consistently been California. As recently as 2004, Colorado had the political trifecta of a Republican governor and a Republican-controlled House and Senate. A short ten years later, all three had turned irrevocably Democrat. The subsequent consequence? A drastic increase in state and local regulations, a dramatic increase in violent crimes, a severe shortage of home inventory and affordable housing, and a staggering increase in homelessness. Do these newfound troubles sound familiar to any other state mentioned here? The only safeguard against out-of-control tax hikes in Colorado is the TABOR Amendment passed by voters 1992, prior to the influx of California residents, that requires taxpayer approval for any new tax. Not surprisingly, emboldened liberals in Colorado are vigorously resolute in repealing this tax hike protection. As of the most recent election they are unsuccessful, yet remain undeterred.
What has coincided with Colorado’s decline? The mass inflow of Californians to the state. Californians have brought with them all the very same liberal doctrines and ideologies that forced their flight from California in the first place. Does this dissuade liberal Californians from shaping Colorado into the very image of California? Not in the least.
If there is any hope for Arizona, it is that they might learn from the resulting ruin of Colorado, however unlikely.
In the 2020 election, Texas was startlingly considered in play for liberals. Since 2015, which state has contributed the most emigrants into Texas? Not surprisingly, the state of California. The hope for liberals is that they can turn Texas into the next purple soon-to-be blue state. The coveted prize is Texas’ electoral votes. Even more insidious, if liberals are able to capture Texas as they have done in Colorado and Arizona, they will force the state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. They will then achieve their ultimate goal of a Democrat president reigning over the United States for endless generations until the point our country experiences the same collapse as other great civilizations throughout world history.
The obvious question is this: How can Texas avoid the same fate as states such as Colorado and Arizona? Simple. By being proactive.
It is much easier for liberals to enact new legislation than to argue for the removal of existing laws. With this in mind, Texas should take advantage of their current Republican-controlled Senate, House, and governor’s office by making haste and passing laws that would limit the future incursion of liberal meddling. Texas can presently enact laws that prohibit sanctuary cities, require voter approval to remove the state’s mandated balanced budget, require that any new regulation must necessitate the removal of an existing one, and compel voter approval of each new local or state tax including non-user fees. While such laws may only serve to stem the liberal takeover of the state, they would be roadblocks making it much more difficult for ideological infiltration in areas that affect inhabitant’s liberties and quality of life.
It would be absurd to suppose Californians have malintent. Rather, they are simply following the course with which they are most familiar while being blissfully ignorant of the negative unintended consequences their political ideology brings. To suggest that any act of suppression, aggression, or intimidation towards Californians moving into red states is acceptable would simply be un-American and subject to the same type of hypocrisy liberals practice. If conservatives stoop to their level, we have lost the battle and, perhaps, the war.
However, by taking aggressive legislative action in states that have not yet succumbed to liberal infiltration, Conservatives will effectively be planting our flag in a defiant refusal to hand over our institutions and our liberty.

California’s State Senate passed a bill last week to give unemployed illegal migrants $300 weekly unemployment checks for up to 20 weeks, despite the fact that the state faces a $32 billion budget deficit.
As Breitbart News reported last month:
California’s fiscus has fallen in the space of one year from a surplus of $100 billion, partly based on federal cash for coronavirus relief, to a staggering deficit of $32 billion.
In his revised budget, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) cautioned legislators to maintain “prudence.” But under SB 227 , “excluded” workers who are in the country illegally would be able to receive $300 per week in benefits.

California’s unemployment insurance program is already controversial, having lost $30 billion in fraudulent claims during the pandemic. The state recently defaulted on a federal loan to cover a shortfall in benefits.
Now, the Washington Free Beacon reports , the bill, SB 227, proposed by State Sen. María Elena Durazo (D-Agoura Hills), has passed the State Senate and moves to the Assembly, with heavy potential implications:
Under SB 227, unemployment fund officials would be barred from asking for claimants’ social security number eligibility or contacting past or present employers to verify their job status. Instead, applicants would self-attest that they meet the requirements for the weekly checks: having earned at least $1,300 or worked at least 93 hours over three months. Acceptable documentation would include tax returns, transaction logs on payment apps, and receipts that show a commuting pattern.
The State Senate passed the measure just months after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) said the undocumented migrant influx could “break” California.

The Golden State already offers free health coverage and driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. More than two million illegal immigrants live in California.

San Francisco’s Biggest Population Losses: Ages 25-34 Justin Sullivan/Getty Images San Francisco lost a higher percentage of residents during the pandemic between the ages of 25 and 29 than any other population group, followed closely by residents between the ages of 30 and 34, Census data show.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the city’s biggest percentage losses were among the age cohort that makes up the bulk of entry-level jobs — and that is also responsible for starting young families:
Newly-released U.S. census data shows that the city’s biggest population losses from 2020 to 2022 came from residents in their late 20s and early 30s.
The data shows that the number of San Franciscans ages 25 to 29 dropped from 94,000 in April 2020 to 74,000 in June 2022, a 21% decrease. The second largest decline was among 30- to 34-year-olds, going from 105,000 in 2020 to just under 88,000 in 2022, a 16% decrease. The third greatest decrease was among 0- to 4-years olds.
For all of these age groups, most of the decline happened in the first year of the pandemic, but even from 2021 to 2022, their populations continued to fall, and at unusually high rates.
While other cities also lost residents, San Francisco has been unusually slow to recover. Mobile phone data suggest that San Francisco’s recovery has been slower than of 62 other major U.S. cities.
The city is suffering an ongoing exodus of retail stores from the downtown area, partly because of population losses and the lack of foot traffic, but also because of crime, homelessness, and drugs in the city.

“Wall Street is betting against America’s [Democrat-run] downtowns,” writes the Wall Street Journal .
“Investors are paying less for bonds linked to New York subways and buses,” says the report. “Downtown-focused real-estate investment trusts trade at less than half their prepandemic levels. Bondholders are demanding extra interest to hold office-building debt.”
Downtowns have been a mother lode for American cities over the years, providing billions of dollars in tax revenue along with their distinctive skylines. In turn, investors who bet on downtown office towers, or on the trains and buses delivering workers to them, could generally trust they held a winning hand.
Now, with white-collar workers spending more time in their home offices, a phenomenon that shows few signs of ending, investments linked to downtowns are trading at falling prices in volatile markets.
And which downtowns are we talking about? Democrat-run Houston. Democrat-run Chicago. Democrat-run Los Angeles. Democrat-run San Francisco. Democrat-run New York.
Does anyone see a pattern emerging here?

I’ll tell you exactly what happened… 1) people discovered they enjoyed working from home, 2) companies discovered it was much cheaper to allow employees to work from home, 3) parents discovered Republicans don’t cause havoc by closing schools, and (most importantly), 4) people discovered that Democrats are willing to use any excuse to unleash chaos, disrupt the lives of citizens, and grab dictatorial power they wield without mercy or reason (liquor stores open, churches, gyms, and schools closed). So, people fled.
People complain about the rat race, the rut, and routine; that’s why they enjoy shows like The Walking Dead; it allows them to fantasize about breaking the routine with a little adventure. But the excitement wore off pretty quickly when the reality of that “adventure” hit with the lockdowns.
People missed their dull, uneventful lives and grew to appreciate them. But now that power-mad Democrats have proven they are willing to throw a grenade at our gloriously dull and uneventful lives, people and companies fled.
You see, this is why socialism can only “work” through violence. In a free country like ours, one where we can just pick up and go if we don’t like things, the Woke Reich will always lose. People want to be free. Most of all, they want to be left alone. Above all, they want their children left alone. Only the threat of violence can create a society where people don’t flee, and of course, that threat of violence starts with confiscating every law-abiding citizen’s guns.

Hotels in the California city are lagging behind those in comparable cities. Revenue per available room was 23 percent lower in April than during the same time in 2019, while hotels in New York City and Los Angeles are exceeding their 2019 metric, the Wall Street Journal reported .
The city's Huntington Hotel and the Yotel San Fransisco hotel were both sold after facing foreclosure in recent months. The Club Quarters San Francisco may also be heading to foreclosure. The number of embattled hotels may soon rise as more than 20 locations will face loans due in the next two years, the Journal reported.
Perhaps the biggest hit to the local market came last week when the owner of both the city's largest hotel, the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, and its fourth-largest, Parc 55, said it ceased payments on $725 million worth of loans and entered foreclosure because the city is facing "major challenges."
The decision was "very difficult, but necessary" because of "concerns over street conditions," office vacancies, and reduced conventions, said Thomas J. Baltimore Jr., CEO of Park Hotels & Resorts, which owns the two hotels.
Homicides in San Fransisco have increased nearly 40 percent from 2020 to 2022 and deaths from fentanyl have spiked.
The hotels follow a long line of businesses that have chosen to flee. Old Navy announced in May it will close its flagship store. Whole Foods and Nordstrom have shuttered businesses in the city over safety concerns. The latter's exit is costing the city 380 jobs. The downtown area of the city has lost half of its businesses since the start of the pandemic.
Democratic mayor London Breed and several city officials held an outdoor meeting on crime in May in the city's United Nations Plaza, known for drug use and crime. A crowd of spectators screamed insults and booed the officials, and one of them threw a brick that almost hit a child, local outlet KRON4 reported . The city officials adjourned the meeting amid the disruption and continued it from inside the city hall building.
A recent study found very few people in the Bay Area feel safe on public transportation. The Bay Area Council found in a poll that 78 percent of residents said they would ride more often if trains and buses were safer and cleaner. Just 17 percent of those asked said they feel safe on public transit.
Democrat governor Gavin Newsom downplayed San Francisco's struggles in an interview this week, saying the city is going through a "rebirth" and "reimagination." "They're struggling to recover from the pandemic," Newsom said when asked about crime causing businesses to flee. "They're struggling with the macroeconomic shifts."

San Francisco Death Spiral Continues — Cinemark Closes Downtown Movie Theater Business Wire/AP 2:49
The Cinemark Movie Theater chain has announced that it will be permanently shutting down its Downtown San Francisco Centre location this Friday, as San Francisco continues its death spiral of shuttered businesses proliferating across the city.
This week, shopping center giant Westfield announced that it will be closing its once booming shopping mall located just south of the city’s famed Chinatown and Nob Hill neighborhoods due to the troubling “dynamics of the downtown” area, a not-so-subtle hint at the city’s soaring crime rate and subsequent loss of foot traffic and tourists.
Only two days later, Cinemark made an announcement of its own and told customers that it will be shuttering its theater in the mall, with its last showings happening on Thursday, according to the San Francisco Standard .
The paper added that Cinemark said it was closing the location after a “comprehensive review of local business conditions.”
The Standard also noted that the theater is accessible via a bank of elevators in the mall concourse, and the lifts had often been found smeared with human waste.
Cinemark is hardly alone. More than half the stores and eateries in the mall have closed since 2020.
The Standard included a list of more than 20 major retail chains that have closed their doors since 2020, including the Gap, the Disney Store, Amazon, Office Depot, Nordstrom, Old Navy, and many more.
San Francisco’s retail decline has been far worse than the general decline forced on retailers by the response to the coronavirus, especially as the City By The Bay has been hit with the trend of businesses allowing employees to work from home and a massive population decline as people flee the failing city for other regions. With these pressures, San Francisco’s recovery was one of the slowest in the nation.

Politics has also been a major source of trouble for the city. Liberals try to claim that San Francisco’s soft-on-crime policies have not led to the retail exodus, but shoplifting has led to the closing of a growing number of stores, and some employees of downtown retailers fear coming to work.

News of Park Hotels & Resorts' plan to surrender ownership of two of San Francisco's largest hotels
The company behind the hotels announced Monday it had stopped making payments on its $725million loan that is due in November for the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 hotels.
Though Park Hotels owns the largest and fourth largest hotels in San Francisco, they are by no means the only hotels suffering and going under as loan repayment date close in.
The Huntington on Nob Hill and Yotel on Market Street are two hotels that were recently sold in foreclosure auctions, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Analysts are now warning that more than two dozen hotels could be joining as they have loans due in the next couple of years as San Francisco continues to struggle with prevalent drug use and an exploding homeless population.

Real estate data firm CoStar's senior director of hospitality Emmy Hise told the Chronicle 30 more hotels face massive loans due in the next two years.
She said the issue of crime and stores leaving the area have impacted the public's view of the Bay Area.
'Most downtowns are struggling with this issue,' she said. 'San Francisco has been getting a lot of the national press.'
The exact amount the 30 hotels will owe is unknown, it's also unclear which will need to pay as details of the locations has not been released.
The Chronicle reported after Park Hotels, the second-largest mortgage deadline will arrive in January of 2024, when the Hilton San Francisco Financial District faces a $97million loan maturation. As of March, less than $10million of the loan has been paid off.
The Huntington was sold to two hotel investment and management firms that say they plan to 'restore and elevate every aspect ' of the hotel, 'returning it to its original glory while reestablishing it as the single finest luxury hotel in San Francisco.'
The hotel defaulted on its $56.2million mortgage.

The Yotel on Market Street, a tech-savvy hotel with micro hotel rooms, was purchased last year for $62million at a foreclosure auction.
Its owner, Synapse Development Group, defaulted on $64.5million in loans last March. It was purchased by New York-based investment firm Monarch Alternative Capital.
Park Hotels CEO Thomas Baltimore Jr said in a statement Monday: 'After much thought and consideration, we believe it is in the best interest for Park's stockholders to materially reduce our current exposure to the San Francisco market.'
'Now, more than ever we believe San Francisco's path to recovery remains clouded and elongated by major challenges - both old and new.
The company blames record-high office vacancy of around 30 percent, concerns over street conditions, a lower rate of return to offices compared with other cities and a 'weaker than expected citywide convention calendar through 2027 that will negatively impact business and leisure demand' for the declining value of the properties for the failure of their properties.
San Francisco has struggled to rebound following the pandemic, much more so than other major cities. Its daily hotel room rate of $234 over the course of the last year is below 2019 levels. While every other major market is above 2019 figures - partially due to inflation.
The city's highest spending group of leisure tourists were from China, and they were barred from returning until the Chinese government ended its strict travel controls earlier this year.
Corporate travel has also taken a hit as tech firms reduce firm size and attempt to cut costs. Some major conferences formerly hosted in San Francisco have also chosen new cities due to rising crime.

A significant handful of high-profile criminal episodes, in addition to a number of retail closures prompted by rampant and unprosecuted theft, have tarnished the city's image to potential visitors.
According to one analysis , San Francisco is suffering from the slowest downtown recovery of any of the 62 largest cities in the US and Canada post-pandemic.
Making that recovery even slower are the stores that have announced they are ditching the downtown area.
Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Saks Off 5th, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Office Depot have all made the decision to abandon their downtown locations. Williams-Sonoma also announced it will shut down in 2024.
Out of 203 retailers open in 2019 in the city's Union Square area, just 107 are still operating, a drop of 47 percent in just a few pandemic-ravaged years.
Even prior to the pandemic, organizers were beginning to make different decisions about where to hold their conferences. In 2018, a major medical-industry conference said they would convene elsewhere due to the city's homelessness issue.
San Francisco is anticipating 23.9million visitors in 2023, who will spend a total of $8.7billion. The record high for the spending figure came in 2019 and totaled $9.6billion.
But that figure could be lower given the issues the city faces and without much progress in cleaning up the streets.

In another criminal episode, Don Carmignani, 53, an ex-fire chief, is facing charges for using pepper spray on a homeless man who proceeded to brutally attack him with a metal crowbar.
Carmignani suffered a fractured skull and jaw. Prosecutors are able to charge him because he used pepper spray on the vagrant thereby instigating the attack, but the city's District Attorney has opted not to prosecute the homeless man because he was acting in 'self-defense.'

T here is an insatiable appetite for what’s happening in San Francisco, the editor-in-chief of a British media outlet recently told me. I get it—we have controversy, conflict, Tammany Hall–style corruption, villains, and heroes, all playing out against a stunning, if blemished, backdrop. For the rest of the country, rooting for the city’s success (or failure) has become a kind of sport. For San Franciscans themselves, it can feel like being trapped in a never-ending cycle of high hopes and deep despair. For us, each week is another cliff-hanger in a long-running drama.
I n the early 1990s, the dot-com boom blasted through San Francisco. Internet-based startups, some little more than a vague concept and a sign on a door, bought out legacy businesses and soon occupied entire buildings, if not city blocks. Angry denunciations of “gentrification” were met with hoots of merriment from speculators, arriving from across the globe. The city’s proximity to Silicon Valley made it the playground for young—and yes, often obnoxious—wealth builders. Rents and housing prices skyrocketed with the influx of venture-capital-backed newcomers.
Though the first dot-com bubble burst just a few years later, the next tech wave arrived shortly thereafter, crowding in with the financial district’s traditional banking, investing, and legal firms. Companies from Airbnb to Zynga planted flags at their new headquarters. Soon Marc Benioff erected his Salesforce Tower, dramatically altering the city’s skyline.
Then came the pandemic. Nearly all tech workers went fully remote, causing urban life to screech to a halt. In 2023, many of these firms’ office buildings remain hauntingly empty, including Benioff’s tower. The delicate ecosystem of bars and restaurants favored by workers has nearly collapsed, devastating a once-vibrant financial district. Today, the financial district’s skyscrapers sport “for lease” signs as mass layoffs and hiring freezes continue. The talent, accustomed to calling shots, now find themselves somewhat adrift. Those who loathed the arrogant newcomers finally have their moment of schadenfreude.
Augmenting the melodrama is Elon Musk, who swept into town to buy Twitter in October 2022. Almost immediately, this wild card fired nearly half the company’s 7,500 employees, and then ordered most of the rest back to the office. Musk’s unpredictable actions, both in the city and online, are theoretical wonders.
S an Francisco, said architect Frank Lloyd Wright, was “the only city I can think of that can survive all the things you people are doing to it and still look beautiful.” In general, this observation remains true, but one particular area grapples with almost unimaginable abuse.
The Tenderloin, roughly 50 blocks of mayhem cradling City Hall and adjacent to the shopping district of Union Square, has long been the place to live if you can’t afford anything else. It’s home to some of the city’s most gorgeous early-twentieth-century architecture, though most buildings are dilapidated and teeming with vermin. About 70 are single-room-occupancy hotels , designated for people with low or no incomes. Many residents are Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern immigrants, poor families, the disabled, or senior citizens. Others are people with drug and mental-illness problems, placed there by the city’s homeless department and a web of contracted nonprofits.
The Tenderloin is a heartbreaking and dangerous place. Sidewalks, doorways, and alleys are packed with tents, lean-tos, sleeping bags, broken wheelchairs, and piles of garbage. Thousands of people on the streets are unconscious, dazed, or delirious. Dogs roam about, too; some are beloved pets, but often neglected. Residents must navigate around bodies and crowds of drug dealers, trying to avoid human waste, needles, and violence.
While the Tenderloin is often compared with its scripted cousin, Hamsterdam , from HBO’s The Wire , this real containment zone has porous boundaries. Outlying neighborhoods have seen an uptick in tents, as people flood the city in search of drugs and handouts, attracted by a lenient attitude toward vagrancy.
In December 2022, the Coalition on Homelessness and the ACLU brought a lawsuit against the city, preventing the police from clearing encampments. U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu issued the injunction, which City Attorney David Chiu quickly appealed. The Tenderloin remains the epicenter of civic neglect, but as similar problems reach the doorsteps of residents elsewhere, the fight for safe, clean communities is intensifying.
P erhaps no aspect of life in San Francisco is as tragic as its drug disaster. From January 2021 to November 2022, more than 1,225 people died of overdoses in the city. Opioids, cocaine, and methamphetamines are all sold in the open. Most of the dealers are part of a powerful cartel of Honduran nationals.
Fentanyl is particularly prolific and cheap. San Francisco’s toleration of the purchase and use of illegal drugs has lured addicts from around the country; all too often, they end up homeless and at death’s door.
The situation became so dire that Mayor London Breed declared a state of emergency in January 2022 and opened the Linkage Center in UN Plaza. The intention was to connect the city’s exploding drug-using population to addiction treatment and other critical services. Mothers who had lost children to the streets of San Francisco were hopeful. Finally, their kids would receive the support that they needed to get sober and healthy.
Almost immediately, the Linkage Center descended into a ramshackle, filthy, city-funded place to get high. Workers distributed drug-use supplies and administered naloxone when guests overdosed. Hundreds of dealers congregated outside, doing brisk business.
The Department of Public Health denied that the center was an unlawful drug-use site, until independent journalists went undercover to confirm it. I was among them, and I witnessed people shoot up and smoke fentanyl in a space created to connect them to recovery care.
In response, the mothers, who had organized into Mothers Against Drug Addiction and Deaths, staged a protest at the center. They were met by harm-reduction activists, who counterprotested. Not backing down, the women erected a billboard overlooking Union Square, bearing the message “Famous the world over for our brains, beauty and, now, dirt-cheap fentanyl,” set against the background of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Eleven months later, in December 2022, the center was shuttered. At a cost of $22 million, it had proved a humiliating failure for city officials. But the closure was a victory of sorts for the mothers who refused to accept substandard treatment for their children.
S an Francisco’s police ranks are at an all-time low, with the force short by at least 500 sworn officers. As in cities across the nation, a number of San Francisco leaders chanted the “defund the police” mantra during the summer of 2020. Mayor Breed was among them. That year, she held a press conference announcing $120 million in cuts from the city’s police and sheriff’s department budgets.
The city, already reeling with escalating crime, was hit hard. Car break-ins, sawed-off catalytic converters, shoplifting, open-air drug markets, smash-and-grab robberies, home invasions, and mail theft soared; people were robbed of their bikes, electronics, and even dogs . Criminals gained the upper hand. Footage of thieves emptying out a Louis Vuitton store in 2021 went viral.
In July 2022, the San Francisco Chronicle asked residents to name the city’s most urgent problem. Crime and public safety ran a close second to homelessness (which is intertwined with drug-related offenses, since many addicts steal to support their habits).
San Francisco’s controversial, ultra-progressive district attorney Chesa Boudin, who took office in January 2020, routinely let arrested drug dealers walk free, eliminated cash bail, and took steps to empty jails of dangerous suspected and convicted criminals. Prominent cases included that of Troy McAlister, a man with an extensive criminal history who was arrested for robbing two women with a fake gun. While McAlister was awaiting trial on a third strike that would have sent him to prison for 25 years to life, Boudin’s office instead negotiated a plea deal, reducing the charges and putting him back on the street. On New Year’s Day 2021, an inebriated McAlister stole a car and drove into 27-year-old Hanako Abe and 60-year-old Elizabeth Platt, killing them both.
City voters recalled Boudin in a special election on June 7, 2022, but criminal-justice-reform activists continue to make it tough for police to do their jobs. The public defender’s office accused sergeant Daniel Solorzano of racial discrimination because he arrested 53 Latino drug dealers in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Solorzano, of Mexican and Nicaraguan heritage, now faces possible disciplinary action and termination. The police commission voted to limit officers’ ability to make pretextual traffic stops, ostensibly to reduce racial profiling. Officers can no longer pull over drivers for actions such as failing to display registration tags or for not having fully functioning rear taillights.
Morale within the police department has plummeted. Experienced officers are resigning , and not nearly enough cadets are replenishing the shrinking ranks. The latest police academy class graduated just 13 new officers.
Sensing a crisis, Breed reversed her police-defunding decision, making an emergency request to the board of supervisors for more funds to support a crackdown on crime. Newly elected supervisor Matt Dorsey, a former police spokesperson, is advocating for big sign-on bonuses. Law and order is suddenly back in vogue.

In 2022, Matt Haney, then a city supervisor (now a state assembly member), approved $1.7 million for the construction of a single public toilet, which was to take two years to build, until he retreated in the face of a backlash. Last year, Haney and other supervisors also promoted spending $427,500 to manufacture and test five prototypes of trash cans. The price tag for each can was between $12,000 and $20,000.
Mohammed Nuru, director of San Francisco Public Works, was arrested for fraud after trying to bribe an airport commissioner and granting a trash-hauling company special treatment in exchange for payments. Facing accusations of corruption, bribery, kickbacks, and side deals dating back to 2008, Nuru pled guilty in 2022 and was sentenced to seven years in federal prison.
In 2021, the school board denied a gay father of a biracial child a spot on the volunteer-parent committee because he is white. During the pandemic, the board debated the destruction of a mural of George Washington at the high school named after the nation’s first president, tried to rename 44 schools after claiming that their namesakes were linked to slavery or racism, and revoked the merit-based admissions process at the city’s renowned magnet Lowell High School. In March 2022, infuriated parents led a recall effort, ending in a landslide vote to remove a trio of board members. In a spectacular display of hubris, ousted board member Alison Collins filed an $87 million lawsuit against the school district and five of her fellow board members. A federal judge tossed the suit for lack of merit.
The city’s massive $14 billion annual budget is itself a disgrace. San Francisco gifted over $1 billion to more than 600 nonprofits in 2022 to fix the quality-of-life issues bedeviling citizens. No substantial improvements resulted. In January 2023, news that $25 million had been awarded to revoked, suspended, and delinquent nonprofits shocked even jaded observers. Eighteen city agencies somehow failed to notice that they were paying millions in taxpayer dollars to defunct organizations.
G orgeous, wild San Francisco has been dragged through the mud by the very officials who have been tasked to keep it clean. Years of grift and extremism have done tremendous damage. Yet serious efforts to revive the city are ramping up. Brooke Jenkins, the current district attorney, has been busy reversing Boudin’s soft approach on crime. She is revoking misdemeanor plea offers for fentanyl dealers and pursuing second-degree murder charges against dealers linked to overdose deaths. Voters have elected some moderate supervisors, and more are expected to run in the 2024 election.
To know what’s really happening in San Francisco, you need to listen to the city’s passionate residents and business owners. They’re mobilizing, getting louder and stronger, demanding positive outcomes. While it’s highly unlikely that the city will ever lean to the political right (nor, for most, is that the intention), there is an undeniable shift away from the hard left. This much is guaranteed: the cast of characters will change again, with hirings and firings and elections, as the next set of opportunists sails into the City by the Bay. San Francisco’s drama will be renewed for many more seasons.

Another Corporation Ditches San Francisco Over City's 'Major Challenges' Getty Images Two of the largest hotels in San Francisco are set to close, following a trend of businesses fleeing the Democrat-led city as it faces a surge in crime.
The owner of the city's largest hotel, the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, and its fourth-largest, Parc 55, will cease payments on $725 million worth of loans and enter foreclosure on the hotels because the city is facing "major challenges."
The decision was "very difficult, but necessary" because of "concerns over street conditions," office vacancies, and reduced conventions, said Thomas J. Baltimore Jr., CEO of Park Hotels & Resorts, which owns the two hotels.
"Now more than ever, we believe San Francisco’s path to recovery remains clouded and elongated by major challenges, both old and new," Baltimore said.
The hotels are far from the first businesses to flee. Old Navy last week announced it will close its flagship store. Whole Foods and Nordstrom have shuttered businesses in the city over safety concerns. The latter's exit is costing the city 380 jobs. The downtown area of the city has lost half of its businesses since the start of the pandemic.
Democratic mayor London Breed and several city officials held an outdoor meeting on crime last month in the city's United Nations Plaza, known for drug use and crime. A crowd of spectators screamed insults and booed the officials, and one of them threw a brick that almost hit a child, local outlet KRON4 reported . The city officials adjourned the meeting amid the disruption and continued it from inside the city hall building.
A recent study found very few people in the Bay Area feel safe on public transportation. The Bay Area Council found in a poll that 78 percent of residents said they would ride more often if trains and buses were safer and cleaner. Just 17 percent of those asked said they feel safe on public transit.
Even comedian Dave Chapelle is concerned about the state of San Francisco. He asked an audience there last month, "What the f— happened to this place?"
"Y’all ... need a Batman!" Chappelle reportedly told the crowd. The comedian recounted his experience at an Indian restaurant in the city, where he saw a homeless man defecate in front of the building as he entered.

The owner of two major hotels in downtown San Francisco is preparing to give the properties up to foreclosure as the city’s downtown decline continues, with retail shops leaving the area amid crime and homelessness.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday:
The owner of two of San Francisco’s biggest hotels — Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 — has stopped mortgage payments and plans to give up the two properties, in another sign of disinvestment in hard-hit downtown.
Park Hotels & Resorts said Monday that it stopped making payments on a $725 million loan due in November and expects the “ultimate removal of these hotels” from its portfolio. The company said it would “work in good faith with the loan’s servicers to determine the most effective path forward.”
The 1,921-room Hilton is the city’s largest hotel and the 1,024-room Parc 55 is the fourth-largest, and together they account for around 9% of the city’s hotel stock. The hotels could potentially be taken over by lenders or sold to a new group as part of the foreclosure process.
San Francisco has been suffering an exodus of major retail stores from the Union Square area over the past several months. The city also lost residents during the pandemic, and there are fewer commuters due to a shift to work-from-home in the tech industry. Amid a looming commercial real estate collapse , experts are advising the city to think about creative and drastic solutions to bring visitors back to the city before it is too late.
The Chronicle notes that tourism spending in the city is up, but convention attendance has fallen drastically and is not expected to recover for years. The cost of living in the city also remains high, despite its troubles.
Mayor London Breed has been at pains to deny that the downtown area is facing economic collapse, as have left-wing pundits eager to deflect criticism of years of soft-on-crime policies. But the crisis continues to worsen.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed said Monday that President Joe Biden is not doing enough to fight the scourge of fentanyl and needs to do more.
Breed led a bipartisan group of mayors in a resolution adopted at the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in San Francisco. The resolution reads , in part:
The United States Conference of Mayors adopted a resolution sponsored by Mayor London N. Breed to support urgent and increased federal enforcement and public health interventions to address the fentanyl crisis. The resolution was supported by a bi-partisan group of Mayors from across the country.
“Locally we are doing all we can to address the challenges of open-air drug dealing of fentanyl in our community,” said Mayor Breed . “Despite the strong and laudable efforts of our local law enforcement agencies, we know San Francisco—and cities across the United States—needs more support. The trafficking and dealing of fentanyl is a national crisis, and requires a robust response from the federal government.”
Specifically, the resolution calls on the Biden Administration to act immediately and increase its enforcement and prosecution of high-level fentanyl drug traffickers and dealers in communities throughout the country. Mayor Breed ’s resolution states that it is imperative that the federal government increase its collaboration with local authorities to combat drug trafficking and dealing, and form joint investigations with local law enforcement to pursue these traffickers and dealers.
Until now, President Biden has primarily faced criticism from Republicans for his lax border policies, which have allowed millions of migrants into the country, as well as drug smugglers bringing in deadly fentanyl.
But Mayor Breed, facing what she calls a “public health calamity” from opioid abuse in San Francisco, has begun demanding that the federal government do more to assist, as state and local efforts have faltered.
The issue has become a potent one in the 2024 presidential race. Former President Donald Trump has vowed to “wage war” on drug cartels, and Democratic Party candidate Robert F. Kennedy says he will seal the border.

Gavin Newsom Threatens to Charge Ron DeSantis with ‘Kidnapping’ Migrants Ray Chavez, Joe Raedle/Getty Images 2:42
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) accused Florida Gov Ron DeSantis (R) of “kidnapping” 16 migrants who were flown from New Mexico to Sacramento, California, allegedly without advance preparation for their arrival.
According to the Los Angeles Times , “The 16 migrants from Venezuela and Colombia were initially transported by bus from El Paso to New Mexico, where they boarded the flight to Sacramento, officials said. They were dropped off at the doorstep of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento on Friday.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a statement on Saturday accusing the state government of Florida of being behind the transfer of the migrants, who initially crossed the U.S. border in Texas.
Millions of migrants have crossed the border, many illegally, since President Joe Biden has taken office. Texas has a policy of relocating some migrants to other states and cities, often “sanctuary cities” run by Democrats.
Florida, too, has relocated migrants who were initially sent to the state. Last fall, DeSantis sent a planeload of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, the offshore haven where the members of the Democratic Party elite have homes. The island, unable to accommodate the migrants despite the proliferation of political signs welcoming immigrants to the country, relocated the migrants to a shelter on a mainland military base within 24 hours.
Newsom, who spends a great deal of his time on social media trolling conservative governors, especially DeSantis, accused DeSantis of kidnapping on Monday, though there is no evidence DeSantis was involved:
Newsom, who left his state for a vacation in Mexico during deadly blizzards earlier this year winter, did not address the underlying migrant issue, or California’s generous welfare policies toward illegal migrants.
The Times notes that California authorities have yet to release documents proving that Florida was involved; the migrants never entered Florida.

Dem Rep. Chu: We Need to Repeal Work Requirements in Debt Bill and Have More Immigration to Deal with Worker Shortage On Tuesday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal,” Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) stated that the U.S. needs more immigration to deal with a shortage of workers and that she hopes the increased work requirements for SNAP benefits in the debt limit bill should be repealed.
Chu said, “I’m a co-sponsor of the farm worker modernization bill. Agriculture’s really hurting because they need the workers to be able to pick those crops. And they are constantly asking for a way to have a steady stream of workers that will do that that they can rely on. But I want to tell you that, just this past week, I visited Texas Instruments and Texas Instruments is doing a magnificent job [of] bringing the semiconductor business here to the level that it should be. … But what they told me is that they don’t have enough workers there who can produce those semiconductors. We need skilled people in engineering and so forth in the STEM professions that can do that. And they said that we in the United States have not invested in STEM education over the last decade. We can do it, but it’ll take a while to ramp up. And what we need [is] to be able to be welcoming to the people around the world who want to come here, they want to come and work here. We need to make sure that we can get them here so that we can get industries like semiconductors, the semiconductor industry to the place where it can be, so that we can make America the leader in innovation and technology.”
She added, “[B]elieve me, the food stamps — what we call SNAP now — what it provides is not an extravagant amount of food. We’re talking about two dollars a day. And I challenge a lot of people to live on that, but it is enough so that at least people can eat. So, that’s why I was so upset about raising the age level for those who would get the SNAP benefits, the food benefits from 49 to 54, and I thi nk that should not have been done. I hope that one day we can return it back to what it was.”

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is asking Hispanics in Florida not to vote for Ron DeSantis in his bid for the 2024 presidential nomination. The Mexican politician claims that DeSantis, much like other Republicans, is using an anti-immigrant message for political purposes.
Despite his constant criticism of the U.S. government for interfering in other countries’ politics, Lopez Obrador (AMLO) openly called for Hispanics in Florida to not give a single vote to DeSantis.
“I’ll take the time to tell Mr. Santi [sic ] who unmasked himself [this week], see I wasn’t wrong,” Lopez Obrador said as he waved his hand in a greeting fashion. “That all of his politicking about migrants was because he wants to be the candidate for the Republican Party.
The Mexican President criticized DeSantis claiming that he had applied anti-migrant policies in his state and as such he hoped that Hispanics repaid him at the polls.
“I hope the Hispanics in Florida wake up and don’t give him a single vote,” Lopez Obrador said. “That they don’t vote for those who target migrants. Those who don’t respect migrants.”
Lopez Obrador called DeSantis a hypocrite and asked for him to be investigated to see if he had hired migrants.
DeSantis, like various other U.S. politicians, have fiercely criticized Mexico’s government in connection with the current fentanyl crisis. The extremely dangerous drug is linked to record-setting overdose deaths. As Breitbart Texas has reported, Lopez Obrador falsely denied that fentanyl is produced in Mexico and claimed that the problem is caused by the U.S. demand for drugs. AMLO claimed that Florida should be investigated to see if the ports of that state could be the entry point for fentanyl from Asia.
As Breitbart Texas has reported, Lopez Obrador verbally clashed with U.S. politicians who he believes are interfering in Mexican politics. He has also stated that he will be asking people to not vote for certain candidates that do not align with his view.

190 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized at Arizona Immigration Checkpoint U.S. Border Patrol/Yuma Sector 4:30
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 190 pounds of fentanyl at an interior immigration checkpoint.
Retiring U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz tweeted photos from an immigration checkpoint near Yuma, Arizona. The images, taken last week, show more than 190 pounds hidden behind the rear seats of the alleged smuggler’s vehicle.
As the vehicle approached the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint on May 30, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the pickup truck. A physical search of the vehicle led to the discovery of plastic-wrapped packages of drugs.
Chief Ortiz reported that the 190 pounds of fentanyl are enough to provide more than 40 million lethal doses.
Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel reported the value of the drugs to be more than $2 million.
A few days later, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than 229 pounds of fentanyl pills. The troopers found the drugs during a traffic stop on Interstate 19 near Amado, Arizona.
Border Patrol Agent Fidel Cabrera told KYMA, “It’s one of the largest if not the largest [fentanyl seizure] we’ve had here in Yuma.”
Between October 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023, Yuma Sector agents apprehended 289 pounds of fentanyl, according to a CBP report. This seven-month total nearly equals the total seizures of fentanyl for the past three years combined. Adding in the seizure above brings this year’s total to approximately 480 pounds compared to 336 pounds for the prior three years combined. The seizure by Arizona DPS cited above will not be included in the CBP reports.
Agents in the San Diego Sector also seized 112 pounds of fentanyl pills on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, California, on May 18, Breitbart Texas reported . During FY23, San Diego Sector agents seized 866 pounds of fentanyl through the end of April, the CBP report states. During the same period last year, agents seized nearly 420 pounds of the deadly drug.

112 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized near Border in California U.S. Border Patrol/San Diego Sector 2:36
San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents seized approximately 112 pounds of fentanyl. The seizure followed a traffic stop on Interstate 8 near the Pine Valley checkpoint on May 18.
San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke tweeted photos of bundles of blue fentanyl pills seized by Campo Station agents near the Interstate 8 checkpoint. The fentanyl weighed approximately 112 pounds.
Campo Station agents conducted an immigration inspection traffic stop on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, California, on May 18, according to a statement from Border Patrol officials. During the stop, a Border Patrol K-9 team conducted a walk-around search of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the SUV.
The agents transported the driver, a U.S. citizen, and the vehicle to the nearby immigration checkpoint for a physical search of the vehicle. During the search, the agents found nine plastic-wrapped packages containing blue pills.
The pills tested positive for fentanyl, officials stated. Agents determined the weight of the pills to be 112 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $1.5 million.
The agents turned the driver over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The Drug Enforcement Administration took possession of the fentanyl pills.
“Transnational criminal organizations do everything they can to distribute these harmful narcotics and earn their profits with no regard for the destructive effects they have on our communities,” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke said in a written statement. “Our Border Patrol agents remain vigilant, day and night, to intercept these poisons and the smugglers who transport them.”

Armed Cartel Gunmen Arrested in Texas near Border, Says DPS Texas Department of Public Safety 1:45
Department of Public Safety troopers working the border region near Fronton, Texas, encountered a group of armed migrants. The troopers seized two tactical rifles found in the possession of the migrants.
DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez told Breitbart Texas that troopers and National Guard soldiers working the border under Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star border security mission, apprehended a group of five migrants last week — two were armed with AR-15-style rifles.

The men are believed to be connected to the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas, Olivarez stated. “One of the men told CID special agents they came under fire from Mexican law enforcement and fled across the Rio Grande,” Olivarez stated. All of the men were found wearing camouflage making the search to find them more difficult.
Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector and Texas law enforcement conducted a search of the area where the first group was found. During the search, the team found two more migrants — both juveniles. Law enforcement sources said the juveniles looked afraid from what they had encountered on the Mexican side of the river.

Olivarez said this is a prime example of the consequences of an unsecured border. These include threats to national security and public safety.

The federal government uses immigration to suppress Americans’ salaries and wages, according to an article in the Atlantic , which is a very pro-migration and establishment magazine.
The federal policymakers believe that “labor is just another commodity, like wood or oil, and Americans are best off when it is plentiful and cheap,” the June 2 article says .
Author Oren Cass, the founder of the mainstream American Compass think-tank, wrote:
American public policy has largely managed to keep things that way. Over the past 50 years , as both parties supported the entry of millions of unskilled immigrants and the offshoring of entire industries, America’s per capita gross domestic product more than doubled after adjusting for inflation. Productivity of labor rose by a similar amount, and corporate profits per capita nearly tripled. Yet over the same time period, the average inflation-adjusted hourly earnings of the typical worker rose by less than 1 percent.
The massive distortion is revealed by the declining share of new wealth that goes to employees since about 1970.
Amid migration, technological centralization, and outsourcing to China, U.S. employees’ share of new wealth dropped 10 points from 1970 to 2014 — from 51.6 percent to 41.9 percent — according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Employees’ share jumped 1 point up under President Donald Trump’s lower-migration policy. But their share seems to be declining again under President Joe Biden’s easy migration rules.
A May 4 report from Cass’ American Compass showed how migration allows investors to minimize pay to workers:
From 1972 to 2022, real corporate profits per capita rose 185%. GDP per capita rose 141%. Productivity rose 135%. The average hourly wage for production and nonsupervisory workers rose 1%. How is that even possible?
It is possible because employers will tend to raise wages under one, and only one, condition: when they cannot hire the workers they need at the existing wage. All of labor economics turns on that simple fact.
This post-1970 economic shift has moved many trillions of dollars from wage earners to investors from 1970 to 2023, thrilling investors and their allies.
The establishment’s cheap-labor bubble burst in 2020 when the coronavirus crash blocked the supply of new migrant workers. The resulting shortfall allowed many Americans to change jobs in search of higher wages.
Cass wrote:
In the coronavirus pandemic’s aftermath, for the first time in a long time, many employers are discovering that they can’t fill jobs at the low wages they’re accustomed to offering. “We hear from businesses every day that the worker shortage is their top challenge,” Neil Bradley, chief policy officer at U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said last May. This is the precise circumstance under which wages might finally rise. Instead, the business community is looking to government to get them out of a jam, and leaders on both sides of the aisle seem only too eager to help.

But now President Joe Biden and his deputies are dramatically opening the inflow of foreign workers via legal, quasi-legal, and illegal migration routes.
“Immigration is a [policy] lever,” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told Axios.com in December 2022. “We’re down a million immigrants a year — that’s a workforce that we need.”
“There are businesses around this country that are desperate for workers [and] there are … desperate workers in foreign countries that are looking for jobs in the United States, ” Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, said on May 11.
“We’re working with the State Department on and DHS [Department of Homeland Security] … to make it easier for [college-graduate migrants] that have these skill sets that we think can really contribute to implementing these new policies, that we can bring them in faster,” White House official Katie Tobin said on May 15.
Cass continued:
This is a grave mistake—politically, economically, and morally. If employers are struggling to find workers, they should offer better pay and conditions. If that comes at the expense of some profits, or requires some prices to rise, well, that’s how markets are supposed to work. In most other contexts, capitalism’s proponents celebrate how the market creates incentives for businesses to solve problems. In that respect, a labor shortage is a great problem to have. Only by challenging employers to improve job quality and boost productivity will we find out what the market’s awesome power can achieve for American workers and their families.
Cass, however, did not offer a term to describe the federal government’s policy of lowering wages via migration.

Extraction Migration
The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration . This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade , and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices . The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because the population replacement allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.

Companies in the United States have announced, so far this year, more than 400,000 layoffs — more than the layoffs announced in all of last year. The job cuts come as Democrats, on behalf of business special interests, demand more foreign competition in the labor market for employers to hire.
The employment data, collected by Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. and published in Bloomberg, shows that roughly 417,500 layoffs have been announced from January through May by U.S. companies across sectors such as technology, banking, retail, and media, among others.
Compare those announced layoffs in just the first five months of this year to the 364,000 total layoffs announced in all of 2022. In tech, there have been almost 140,000 layoffs announced this year so far. This is only slightly fewer than the 169,000 layoffs in tech in 2001.
“Companies cited economic conditions and cost-cutting for more than half of the layoffs announced this year,” Bloomberg noted.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has issued similar sentiments.
“… at the same time, we have this historic labor shortage, we also have this unprecedented influx of individuals arriving in New York — all of them legally seeking asylum,” Hochul said. “They’re eager to work, they want to work, they came here in search of work.”

Christopher Leon Johnson via Storyful In Washington, DC, Democrats recently repeated many of the same talking points from the Business Roundtable and U.S. Chamber of Commerce used to demand an endless flow of foreign workers whom jobless Americans would be forced to compete against.
“We’re ignoring the Business Roundtables of America who are crying out for employees to work alongside Americans,” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said during a committee hearing last month. “Let me be very clear, we have jobs for Americans, we have tech jobs for Americans, teaching jobs for Americans, law enforcement, firefighter jobs for Americans, but we’re a growing nation.”
As Breitbart News has chronicled , Biden has grown the U.S. payrolls by adding millions of foreign-born workers to the labor market while the share of native-born Americans in the labor market has continued to decline.

California State Senate Passes Bill to Give Illegal Migrants Unemployment Checks Marcio Jose Sanchez / Associated Press 3:00
California’s State Senate passed a bill last week to give unemployed illegal migrants $300 weekly unemployment checks for up to 20 weeks, despite the fact that the state faces a $32 billion budget deficit.
As Breitbart News reported last month:
California’s fiscus has fallen in the space of one year from a surplus of $100 billion, partly based on federal cash for coronavirus relief, to a staggering deficit of $32 billion.
In his revised budget, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) cautioned legislators to maintain “prudence.” But under SB 227 , “excluded” workers who are in the country illegally would be able to receive $300 per week in benefits.

California’s unemployment insurance program is already controversial, having lost $30 billion in fraudulent claims during the pandemic. The state recently defaulted on a federal loan to cover a shortfall in benefits.
Now, the Washington Free Beacon reports , the bill, SB 227, proposed by State Sen. María Elena Durazo (D-Agoura Hills), has passed the State Senate and moves to the Assembly, with heavy potential implications:
Under SB 227, unemployment fund officials would be barred from asking for claimants’ social security number eligibility or contacting past or present employers to verify their job status. Instead, applicants would self-attest that they meet the requirements for the weekly checks: having earned at least $1,300 or worked at least 93 hours over three months. Acceptable documentation would include tax returns, transaction logs on payment apps, and receipts that show a commuting pattern.
The State Senate passed the measure just months after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) said the undocumented migrant influx could “break” California.

The Golden State already offers free health coverage and driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. More than two million illegal immigrants live in California.

Left-wing Disney-Marvel star Mark Ruffalo has taken a beating on social media after he issued a call to tax billionaires at 90 percent. In a Twitter post on Saturday, Ruffalo, best known for his role as Hulk/Bruce Banner in the Avengers series, shared an article from the far-left outlet Daily Kos that called to tax billionaires at 90 percent.
“When you tax billionaires at 90 percent, they’re still fabulously rich and you have the resources to rebuild a healthy and happy middle class across the nation,” Ruffalo quoted the article in his post.
The article essentially argued that America became a dystopia ever since the Republican-led “roaring 20s” when the tax rates fell.
“The last time we saw the consequences of such inequality was during the Republican ‘Roaring ‘20s’ 100 years ago, when Warren Harding dropped the top income tax rate from 91 percent to 25 percent, the morbidly rich openly bought our politicians, and gangs whose names are still known today roamed the country robbing and killing with impunity,” the article argued .
“Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal put an end to all that, and we need to repeat his example today,” it added. “FDR raised the top income tax bracket from 25 to 90 percent. Wealthy people in America screamed and yelled, claiming it would crash the economy, but instead that top tax rate kicked off the first middle class to encompass more than half a nation’s population in world history.”
Questions over FDR’s New Deal policies and whether or not they prolonged or solved the Great Depression has been a subject of intense debate for years, with Republicans often charging that FDRs policies not only did nothing to solve the Depression but actually made it worse .
Nonetheless, since Mark Ruffalo boasts a net worth of roughly $35 million, his critics on Twitter quickly pointed out that he should be the first to jump down the 90 percent tax hole.

As the world was buffeted by a coronavirus tsunami leaving forced lockdowns, supply-chain problems, economic upheaval, and poverty in its wake, globalist financial elites “have had a terrific pandemic” according to a report released Monday.
The world’s 10 richest men have more than doubled their fortunes to $1.9 trillion, at a rate of $1.6 billion a day, over the past 12 months, proving elites have largely been spared the misery and financial ruin inflicted on so many by endless enforced lockdowns.
A confederation of charities that focus on alleviating global poverty, Oxfam said members of the globalist financial elites saw their wealth rose more during the pandemic more than it did the previous 14 years, when the world economy was suffering the worst recession since the Wall Street Crash of 1929.
Confidence lags (again) in Biden's economy

No, that does not come from a critic of President Joe Biden (D); it is the objective statement from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), truthfully reporting on just the facts on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
Some might argue that 0.20 points downward is an insignificant move, indicating nothing. But this decrease is considered significant because not only is this the seventh month in a row that the index has remained below the 50 threshold, which indicates that the contraction in manufacturing is not only continuing, but slightly accelerating, but it is also the longest period of contraction since the Great Recession of 2008 — roughly June 2007–June 2009. To refresh the memories of those under 35, this not so ancient historical period was a time of major bankruptcies, including GM (yeah, GM) and Bear Stearns; it was also a time of bank bailouts and even more government intervention in the economy.
Sound familiar?
In spite of the gloomy news, the market closed on the up Thursday as "investors applaud debt ceiling progress." In other words — and oh, what not a surprise — the U.S. won't declare official bankruptcy; the US will just get deeper into debt and state that's just fine.

The number of foreign nationals holding jobs in the United States has hit the highest level since the Labor Department began tracking the data in 1996 as the employment of native-born Americans declines, a trend under President Joe Biden.
In 2022, foreign-born workers saw their share of the labor market hit the highest level in almost 30 years at more than 18 percent, with close to 30 million now holding U.S. jobs, according to data published in the Wall Street Journal .

President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better Act” is set to give a tax cut to about 67 percent of the nation’s richest Americans — those earning more than $885,000 every year.
A new analysis from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget reveals that the filibuster-proof reconciliation package will give a tax cut to two-thirds of the top one percent of earners even as the top one percent now hold more wealth than the entire American middle class.
“This is true despite the fact that Build Back Better would raise taxes substantially for the extremely rich (mainly those making over $10 million per year),” the analysis states.
In effect, those in the top one percent would receive an average tax cut of more than $16,000 in 2022 under Biden’s plan. The tax cuts for the wealthy would be a result of the plan’s increasing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap.
As Breitbart News has reported, the plan amounts to a $625 billion tax cut for the wealthiest of Americans living primarily in blue states.

“In other words, the largest tax cuts in dollars in Build Back Better would go to households in the top five percent and especially the top one percent,” the analysis continues. “Many make millions of dollars of annual income and tens of millions of dollars in assets.”President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better Act” is set to give a tax cut to about 67 percent of the nation’s richest Americans — those earning more than $885,000 every year.
A new analysis from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget reveals that the filibuster-proof reconciliation package will give a tax cut to two-thirds of the top one percent of earners even as the top one percent now hold more wealth than the entire American middle class.
“This is true despite the fact that Build Back Better would raise taxes substantially for the extremely rich (mainly those making over $10 million per year),” the analysis states.
In effect, those in the top one percent would receive an average tax cut of more than $16,000 in 2022 under Biden’s plan. The tax cuts for the wealthy would be a result of the plan’s increasing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap.
As Breitbart News has reported, the plan amounts to a $625 billion tax cut for the wealthiest of Americans living primarily in blue states.

At the same time, Biden’s plan would squeeze an extra $200 billion out of American taxpayers by mostly targeting working and middle class earners with more Internal Revenue Services (IRS) audits.
The plan ensures nearly 600,000 more working and middle class Americans earning $75,000 or less a year would be audited by the IRS. Of those new IRS audits, more than 313,000 would target the poorest of Americans who earn $25,000 or less a year.
Biden’s “Build Back Better Act” has already passed the House, thanks entirely to Democrat support, and now awaits scrutiny in the United States Senate.
In 2017, former President Trump had the SALT deduction capped at $10,000. Since then, Democrats have sought to deliver their wealthy, blue state donors with a massive tax cut by eliminating the cap altogether or greatly increasing it.
Biden, for instance, had sought to include tax cuts for his billionaire donors in a Chinese coronavirus relief package earlier this year. The plan was ultimately cut from the package. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), in May 2020, also tried to include the plan in a coronavirus relief package.

The nation’s biggest tech conglomerates continued hiring foreign workers through the H-1B visa program, even as they carried out mass layoffs of American employees, investigative reporter Lee Fang details.
Since the start of the year, hundreds of thousands of Americans in tech jobs have been laid off, with about 12,000 cut at Google, 10,000 out at Microsoft, close to 20,000 laid off at Amazon, and 10,000 cut from Meta Platforms which owns Facebook and Instagram.
Just weeks after announcing such layoffs, though, the same tech corporations continued hiring foreign workers on the H-1B visa program — known as the “outsourcing visa ” to many Americans.
Lee Fang, formerly of The Intercept , reports :
Sundar Pichai, the chief executive of Google, wrote a solemn letter in January, announcing his company’s decision to lay off 12,000 employees. [Emphasis added]

Just one month later, Pichai’s firm filed applications for low-paid foreign workers to come to America and take highly specialized tech jobs. Google filed dozens of applications for foreign workers to serve as software engineers, analytical consultants, user experience researchers, and other roles. Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Google, also filed and received visa applications for engineering jobs. Many of the Google visas are for new employees, with some starting as soon as August 17th. [Emphasis added]
Newly disclosed data released yesterday by the Department of Labor shows thousands of recent H1-B foreign worker visas requested by firms that just underwent massive layoffs this year, including Facebook/Meta Platforms, Amazon, Zoom, Salesforce, Microsoft, and Palantir .
That newly published data from Lee Fang matches similar research conducted by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), detailed by Breitbart News last month, which found that the top 30 tech corporations had announced a combined 85,000 layoffs while at the same time importing nearly 35,000 foreign H-1B visa workers to take coveted white-collar American jobs.
For years, Breitbart News has chronicled the abuses against white-collar American professionals as a result of the H-1B visa program. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment. Americans are often laid off in the process and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News.
“Rather than turning to the H-1B program as a last resort when U.S. workers cannot be found, most employers hire H-1B workers because they can be underpaid and are de facto indentured to the employer,” EPI researchers Daniel Costa and Ron Hira write.
“This is evidenced by government data showing that technology companies continue to hire H-1B workers in large numbers while significantly reducing the sizes of their workforces,” they continue.
The H-1B visa program has caught scrutiny from Republicans for years, though not much has been done to eliminate outsourcing from corporations.
While president in 2020, for example, Donald Trump enacted reforms to require companies seeking foreign H-1B visa workers to offer the highest salaries possible and also saved a number of Americans’ jobs at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) from being outsourced to foreign H-1B visa workers.
Trump is currently the frontrunner in the GOP presidential primary race.
Likewise, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who announced his presidential candidacy this month, has criticized the H-1B visa program for its favoritism to multinational corporations against white-collar American professionals.
“… if there’s legal immigration that’s harming Americans, we shouldn’t do that either,” DeSantis said during a press conference this month. “For example, some of these H-1B visas, they would fire American tech workers and hire foreigners at lower wages. I don’t agree with that. I think that’s wrong.”
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), running for the United States Senate in Indiana, previously put forth a blueprint for reforming the H-1B visa program — many provisions of which were backed by former Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) when he served as a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Banks bill would set a wage floor of $110,000 that companies would have to offer foreign H-1B visa workers or pay hires the same salary currently being paid to Americans doing the same job. Companies offering the highest salaries would be prioritized in the process.
Similarly, companies would be greatly limited in contracting with so-called “body shops” to replace their American employees with imported foreign H-1B visa workers under the Banks legislation.

Americans should celebrate the inflow of migrants into new jobs throughout the economy, even as many American men remain on the economic sidelines, says a Washington Post columnist.
The “share of prime-working-age men in the workforce still hasn’t matched its February 2020 peak [and] is also far below historical highs,” said the June 2 “Celebrate” column by Catherine Rampell.
But more migrants and women are streaming into new jobs, Rampell wrote, adding, “Let’s celebrate the underdogs helping supercharge our economy.”
Rampell’s column celebrates President Joe Biden’s great migration which has smuggled roughly 4 million migrants over the southern border. The illegal inflow is in addition to the normal airport inflow of roughly 1 million legal immigrants, and the fast-growing inflow of legal and illegal white-collar visa workers.

Rampell’s posted chart admits that Biden’s migration-spiked economy has failed to restore the share of men who were working during Trump’s term:
President Joe Biden’s current 89.1 percent share means that roughly 6 million unemployed American men are not even looking for work.
Some have retired early, some are wealthy, and some are lazy. But many of the 6 million are unprepared for low-wage work alongside competition from younger, healthier, and eager migrants.
Yet Rampell prefers to praise the massive migration inflow as normal and to celebrate the huge 9.3 percent expansion in the foreign workforce:
Today, trends in legal immigration have largely normalized, and the numbers of immigrant workers in the United States have more than recovered. You can see this in the labor market data: Employment [number, not share] levels for native-born Americans are just a touch higher than in February 2020, when the pandemic recession began (up on net by 0.3 percent); among foreign-born workers, employment has shot up by 9.3 percent.

Rampell also celebrated the pressured movement of more women into the low-wage labor market, regardless of the resulting decline in births , writing:
Some commentators (myself included) worried that these [coronavirus] disruptions might set working women back a generation or more by knocking them off the career trajectories they had been on.
… as a group, rather than being economically scarred by covid, female workers seemed to have emerged stronger than ever.
Rampell’s column inadvertently reveals how the wage-cutting, rent-spiking inflow of foreign workers minimizes the incentive for establishment figures — such as herself — to take the difficult political decisions that are needed to get sidelined people back to work, or to raise all-important productivity growth above the current rate of just 1.1. percent:
Productivity growth is vital because it allows ordinary Americans to do more work each day and so earn more money each day. Overall, productivity raises ordinary people’s wages — and without triggering the inflation that is now being boosted by migration.
Productivity also helps U.S. companies to expand the U.S. economy via trade. Such trade reduces elites’ pressure for migration and also allows foreign countries to modernize their societies without their young being getting extracted to the U.S. economy.
But the U.S. establishment prefers the easy option of allowing illegal migration over the difficult task of promoting productivity.

Rampell celebrates Biden’s preference for poverty migration , blue-collar migration , and white-collar migration — even though Biden could pressure companies to grow productivity and pull sidelined American men back to marketplace work with offers of more wages, training, and respect.
Biden’s policy also shows the eagerness of his deputies to reinflate President George H.W. Bush’s post-1990 cheap-labor bubble . The labor bubble allowed investors to boost stock market gains via a bigger consumer economy after the export of many high-wage manufacturing jobs to China and Mexico.
Biden’s administration’s preference for more migration also means that wealthy investors do not face marketplace pressure to help reduce early “deaths of despair, ” help people get off drugs, push Mexico on the drug trade, or reduce crime.
“The migration issue “is not just a question of prioritizing US citizens over foreigners,” tweeted commentator Mickey Kaus, adding:
It’s a question of what sort of society we want to have — one where all (even unskilled & ex-cons) can earn enough to live as social equals, or a society that throws large swaths of workers onto the scrapheap.
Rampell has long supported more migration into Americans’ labor market, echoing the establishment’s demand for more cheap workers, apartment-sharing renters, and welfare-aided consumers.
Rampell is tied to the establishment. For example, her brother is an investor in the financial services sector. Most of his start-up companies have asked the federal government for H-1B visa workers to avoid hiring American graduates at higher salaries or paying them with stock options.
Similarly, her pro-migration article was touted by Google’s search engine:
Many other establishment figures favor the use of migrants to expand the economy, regardless of the pocketbook and civic impact on ordinary Americans. Ron Brownstein, a senior editor at the Atlantic , wrote on May 30:
Even as businesses across the nation are complaining about their inability to find enough workers, the federal government is struggling to stem the relentless flow of migrants at the Southern border trying to find work in the US. No one suggests the answer to worker shortages is to open the border, but it remains a paradox that the nation is straining to keep out migrants looking to work even as employers say the shortage of workers is preventing them from filling millions of jobs. That worker shortfall has also emerged as a key factor driving persistent inflation and higher interest rates.
“There’s a mismatch between government policy and the economic reality on the ground,” said David Bier, associate director of immigration studies at the libertarian Cato Institute. “We have a policy designed to keep people out and meanwhile we have a crisis in the labor markets where we have nearly 10 million open jobs and have for two years now.”
Brownstein, however, admitted that the call to import more foreign workers is “politically radioactive .

The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration . This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade , and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices . The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because the population replacement allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.

Migration — and especially, labor migration — is unpopular among swing voters . A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats.
It doesn’t matter that the Democrats are allowing their state to go down the toilet like liberal cities such as Chicago and San Francisco. They are following the example of Lucifer in John Milton’s “Paradise Lost” that it is “Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven.”
New York is hiding criminal histories
New York is inviting criminals to move to the state. Not literally, but their actions once again are showing that they won’t hold criminals accountable. It began with liberal politicians decriminalizing certain crimes and forcing police to prioritize the calls they answer because of shortages of police officers.
However, some criminals do get arrested. If that happened, liberal district attorneys drop charges or liberal judges dismiss cases.
If criminals are unlucky enough to be convicted for their crimes, well, New York now wants to make sure no one can find out about a person’s criminal record. The state legislature passed a bill that automatically seals most criminal records, and Democrat Mayor Kathy Hochul is expected to sign it into law.
The “Clean Slate Act ” seals the records of criminals convicted of a misdemeanor three years after they are released from prison. It also seals the records of felons eight years after they are released from prison.
“Clean Slate offers a genuine second chance to individuals who have fully paid their debt to society, enabling them to restart their lives and become positive contributors to their communities,” said Democrat Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “By passing Clean Slate, we affirm our belief in redemption and improve our society by providing formerly incarcerated individuals a better opportunity to enter the workforce and establish stable lives.”
While this is a laudable goal, it places the citizens of the state in a vulnerable position. What happens if a convicted bank robber or embezzler gets a job in finance? What if a convicted sex offender gets a job that brings them into contact with potential victims? Ordinarily, employers could have discovered this prior to a problem arising, but the state is now going to hide essential information. They will have become accessories to crimes that arise because they hid information.
Now, the bill allows some exceptions, such as Class A felonies that could warrant life in prison sentences, like terrorism, murder, kidnapping and some sex crimes. How long do you think those exceptions will last before liberal legislators start pushing to include the exceptions into the bill? Liberals have shown they don’t know the difference between right and wrong, or they do and have switched the definitions of the words.
“This law is completely irresponsible,” said state Republican Rep. Mike Tannousis. “When are we finally going to hold criminals accountable for their actions? I have been here for three years, and have yet to see the day. Let’s hope it comes soon before the rest of the New Yorkers that still live in this state flee.”
This is also an effort by liberals to cater to their voters, especially since major crimes increased 22 percent in New York City last year. By encouraging criminals to stay in the city and state, they are likely to vote for Democrats and keep them in power

On Thursday’s broadcast of NPR’s “All Things Considered,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass defended the city codifying its sanctuary city status and acknowledged that being a sanctuary city will spend city resources on migrants and also said that they can’t handle any more buses of migrants sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) or any other Republican officials because “we are in the middle of a crisis where we are not able to provide housing for Angelenos ” and more buses “would exacerbate that crisis.”
Bass said that she was surprised Los Angeles hadn’t officially codified its sanctuary city status, because “from my point of view, L.A. had been a sanctuary city from years ago. I did not realize it hadn’t been codified into law. The primary reason for that is to protect immigrants, because we don’t want the Los Angeles Police Department essentially doing the work of ICE, of immigration. Undocumented immigrants are vulnerable. And if they feel like they can’t report a crime, they can’t call public officials or they might be deported, then that compromises the safety of all Angelenos.”
Co-host Juana Summers then asked, “Well, the way I understand it, and I’m just reading from a news release here, this city ordinance ensures that no city resources, property, or personnel are to be used for federal immigration enforcement. So, does this mean, then, that being a sanctuary city essentially translates into Los Angeles is prepared to spend city resources, property, and personnel to help migrants find shelter and services? Is that something that you would stand by as the Mayor of the city?”
Bass answered, “Well, of course. This is a city of immigrants. We have people here from over 100 countries. And obviously, we want to make sure that anybody in our city is protected. We are also a city that has 40,000 unhoused people. And so, we are in the middle of a crisis where we are not able to provide housing for Angelenos. But that should never be an excuse for there to be an anti-immigrant sentiment. And what the governors are doing in these other cities is just a reflection of their xenophobia, of their anti-immigrant ideology. And it’s really political. This is in preparation for the 2024 election. The Republicans plan to run on an anti-immigrant platform, just like they have been doing pretty consistently over the last few years.”
Summers then asked, “But is this city, is Los Angeles in a position to absorb more busloads of migrants should Gov. Abbott or any other Republican leaders send more busloads this way?”
Bass answered, “No, that — well, that’s why I said if what happened to New York happened in Los Angeles, it would send a city that is already in a crisis and it would exacerbate that crisis.”

The nation’s illegal alien population has hit nearly 17 million, an increase of more than two million since President Joe Biden began implementing his Catch and Release network at the United States–Mexico border, an analysis reveals.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) released its annual report estimating the size of the illegal alien population residing in the United States.
Based on the latest Census Bureau data, FAIR researchers found that there are at least 16.8 million illegal aliens now living in American communities — an increase of 2.3 million illegal aliens since Biden took office in January 2021 and an increase of 1.3 million illegal aliens since the same time last year.

As the illegal alien population skyrockets under Biden, so do the costs to Americans.
“Along with the sharp increase in the illegal alien population comes [sic ] sharp increases in costs to American taxpayers,” researchers note:
The unprecedented rate of influx of new illegal aliens over the past year would add $12.6 billion annually to the costs of illegal immigration, bringing the cumulative net cost to at least $163 billion a year. At the current pace of illegal immigration, the annual net cost will exceed $200 billion by 2026 . [Emphasis added]
“… [T]he fiscal and social burdens of the Biden administration’s sabotage of our immigration enforcement policies are unsustainable,” FAIR President Dan Stein said in a statement.

Researchers also state that at the current pace of illegal immigration, more illegal aliens will have resettled across the U.S. in Biden’s first three years in office than in the entire decade of the 2010s.
“The impact of these policies is causing social upheaval, setting states against other states, big cities against surrounding communities, overwhelming school districts and social service providers, as economic migrants from all across the globe pour across our borders,” Stein said.
Indeed, recent analysis has shown the impact that illegal immigration has on American public schools and hospital systems .
The House Homeland Security Committee detailed how illegal aliens are driving up costs for hospitals with billions in unpaid medical bills that American taxpayers are then forced to subsidize.
Likewise, the Center for Immigration Studies published research this week which reveals that mass immigration has tripled the number of public school students from immigrant-headed households in the U.S. since 1980 and, as a result, “added disproportionately to the number of low-income students in public schools.”

170K Migrants Apprehended in May at Southern Border Doubles Biden’s Inaugural Month Law Enforcement Photo 5:30
Border Patrol agents along the southwest border with Mexico apprehended nearly 170,000 migrants who crossed between ports of entry in May. While this is down from the more than 183,000 apprehended in April, it is more than double the 71,141 apprehensions in January 2021 — the month President Joe Biden took office.
Border Patrol agents in the nine southwest border sectors apprehended 169,244 migrants who crossed the border between ports of entry in May. This is down by less than eight percent from the 183,079 apprehended in April.
The apprehension numbers do not include an estimated 51,000 migrants who were classified as known got-aways, according to a CBP source not authorized to speak to the media. This brings the number of known migrant crossers to more than 220,000 migrants.
While the Biden administration credited the decrease in apprehensions to new border security and immigration policies, the number is an increase of nearly 125 percent from the 75,316 migrant apprehensions in January 2021 — Joe Biden’s inaugural month.
“As a result of comprehensive planning and preparation efforts, there has been a significant reduction in encounters along the Southwest border since the return to full Title 8 immigration enforcement on May 12,” Senior Official Performing the Duties of CBP Commissioner Troy A. Miller said in a written statement rolling out the May numbers. “As we continue to execute our plans –including delivering strengthened consequences for those who cross unlawfully while expanding access to lawful pathways and processes– we will continue to monitor changes in encounter trends and adjust our response as necessary.”
CBP officials continue claiming to operate a “safe, orderly, and humane immigration system.
“CBP has been executing the Department’s comprehensive plan to secure our borders and build a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system,” CBP officials wrote in the statement releasing the May Southwest Land Border Encounters Report. However, the Biden administration’s appointed Border Patrol sector chiefs continue to tweet examples showing the process is anything but “safe, orderly, and humane,” Breitbart Texas reported .
CBP officials continue to blame the CDC’s Title 42 migrant expulsion program for the high numbers in May:
More than half of the U.S. Border Patrol’s encounters in May occurred prior to the lifting of the CDC’s Title 42 public health Order. From May 1 – 11, U.S. Border Patrol encountered 98,850 individuals between ports of entry along the Southwest border. After the termination of the order as of 11:59 pm ET on May 11 through the end of the month on May 31, U.S. Border Patrol’s encounters between ports of entry along the Southwest border were 70,394.
With four months to go in the current fiscal year, agents appended 1,410,801 migrants. This compares to the 1,442,862 migrants apprehended during the same period last year.
Single adult migrants accounted for 114,886 of the 169,244 migrants apprehended by Border Patrol agents in May (68 percent). So far this year, agents apprehended nearly one million single adult migrants who crossed between ports of entry.
Family units and single unaccompanied minors account for 44,900 and 9,458 apprehensions, respectively.
The apprehension of Chinese migrants at the southern border continues at a historic rate. During May, agents apprehended 2,769 Chinese migrants. This is more than the entire year totals for FY22 and FY21 combined (2,293). So far this fiscal year, agents apprehended 12,480 Chinese nationals along the southwest border with Mexico.
Migrants from Mexico and the Central American northern triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras accounted for 54,140 migrants in May. Another 23,154 came from Venezuela.

Sony’s animated blockbuster Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has released an ad in partnership with a George Soros-backed group whose goal is to import more cheap immigrant labor.
The American Immigration Council (AIC) is taking credit for the PSA — but instead of mentioning immigration, the Hollywood partnership is being marketed as a plea for “belonging,” with the goal of creating a “more welcoming nation.”
The Spider-Man tie-in consists of a 30-second video featuring characters from the hit sequel accompanied by a voice-over urging greater acceptance of others.
“It doesn’t take a superhero to bring forces together. We all have the power to reach out and help someone feel like they belong,” the narrator says.

Spider-Man is partnering with a group called Belonging Begins with Us, which is a project of AIC — the Soros-backed organization that is trying to flood the country with cheap labor by pushing for more immigration as well as amnesty for some illegal aliens.
Belonging Begins with Us works with the Ad Council to partner with prominent brands and entertainment titles in an attempt to push its soft message of “belonging” and “welcoming.”
“Belonging” has emerged as a key marketing buzzword for the AIC, which defines it as a “fundamental human need, and one that is linked to many of the most complex challenges of our time.” The organization has even published a study titled “The Belonging Barometer,” which calls for greater acceptance of “non-citizen immigrants” and other groups.
“The Americans who report being treated as ‘less than’ tend to be younger, first-generation or non-citizen immigrants, identify as non-Hispanic white, or identify as a gender minority,” the study concludes. “The range of demographic categories who reported being treated as ‘less than others.'”
The Hollywood push comes amid falling support for immigration, as the Biden administration’s open-border policies have resulted in an unprecedented tsunami of illegal border crossings.
As Breitbart News reported , a YouGov poll found a growing plurality of citizens alongside almost two out of three Republicans say immigration makes the nation “worse off.”
Spider-Verse 2, which is a Marvel Studios production, is poised to become one of the biggest movies of the summer. The sequel has so far grossed $225 million domestically and is in the midst of its global rollout.
The Soros network may go through a shakeup in the coming years, as the infamous left-wing billionaire has handed over the reins of his activism-charity projects to his millennial son Alex .

Wanted Killers Among 2 Million Illegal Aliens Freed into U.S. by Biden’s DHS ICE/Nathan Howard/Bloomberg 5:33
Wanted killers are among the more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens that Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) estimates have been released into the United States since President Joe Biden took office in late January 2021.
Late last month, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested a 50-year-old illegal alien from Brazil, and a member of the nation’s largest criminal gang known as Primeiro Comando Da Capital, who was convicted of murder.
The illegal alien gang member first crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near San Luiz, Arizona, in March of this year. At the time, he was apprehended by Border Patrol agents and put into deportation proceedings.
Subsequently, thanks to the Biden administration’s expansive catch and release network, the illegal alien gang member was given a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge and released into the nation’s interior.
RJ Hauman, president of the newly-formed National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE), told Breitbart News that the illegal alien gang member’s case “is yet another dangerous example of flaws in the ‘vetting’ that the Biden Administration says occurs when illegal aliens are encountered at the border and then released into the country.”
“The Border Patrol has no access to foreign criminal databases. The only way they would know about an illegal alien’s criminal record is if they committed a crime while here. So what are we supposed to do, believe everything an illegal alien says?” Hauman continued. “[F]ortunately, the brave men and women of ICE saved the day. When will their open-borders political leaders finally be held accountable?”
NICE, like the majority of Americans, backs full enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws — supporting ICE agents’ authority to quickly and easily arrest and deport illegal aliens.
In a similar case, twice-deported illegal alien Edickson Paulino Castano, 52 years old, was recently deported for the third time from the U.S. after he had been released into the U.S. interior on an order of supervision in September 2021.
Castano is wanted for murder in his native Dominican Republic.
John Fabbricatore, an advisory board member for NICE and a retired ICE Field Office Director, told Breitbart News that Biden’s “laissez-faire attitude” toward enforcement is resulting in “illegal aliens, including violent criminals continually being released” into the U.S. interior.
“The Border Patrol is being instructed to quickly process and release as fast as they can into the interior of the country. They take whatever they’re told as the truth, and the illegal alien is long gone before international warrants can be discovered,” Fabbricatore continued:
Criminal cases are dangerously being pushed into our communities in blatant disregard of federal law. While [Enforcement and Removal Operations] Boston did a great job of making this arrest, we can’t ignore the fact that an illegal alien murderer was released into the country. INTERPOL notices can take days or a few weeks to send out an alert for an update for an investigation. [Emphasis added]
The blatant disregard of federal law by the Biden administration is putting this country in danger. How many convicted criminals have been allowed to enter or have entered undetected since the start of this administration? How many known or suspected terrorists? Congress must get to the bottom of this, and fast. [Emphasis added]
Both illegal aliens are among the more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens that Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released into American communities since early 2021.
During a recent hearing by the House Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, Chairman McClintock noted that such a foreign population, “deliberately released into this country,” is equivalent to the population of Nebraska.

Those released into the U.S. interior by DHS are not the only illegal aliens to be added to the nation’s population since Biden took office.
“Meanwhile, more than a million and a half known got-aways have also entered illegally, an additional illegal population the size of Hawaii,” McClintock said:
For Americans, it means classrooms flooded with non-English speaking students, hospitals overwhelmed with illegal immigrants demanding care, fentanyl poisoning our young people, catastrophic strains on the social safety net meant to help Americans in need … working wages suppressed by a flood of cheap, illegal labor. [Emphasis added]
And now we observe the irony of officials in so-called sanctuary cities like New York and Chicago and sanctuary states like California warning that they cannot handle this influx. [Emphasis added]
Former Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Joseph Edlow told the subcommittee that Biden’s DHS was focused on giving mass parole to border crossers and illegal aliens to get them into the nation’s interior but now is using NTAs to mass release those arriving at the southern border.
“For the most part, there are more interests in — it was paroling people in — now it’s giving Notices to Appear and letting people go along their way,” Edlow said. “There is not an interest in detaining as far as I can see.”

Study: More than 7-in-10 California Immigrant Welfare

More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.
The latest Census Bureau data analyzed by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that about 72 percent of households headed by noncitizens and immigrants use one or more forms of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in California — the number one immigrant-receiving state in the U.S.
Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of households headed by native-born Americans use welfare in California.
All four states with the largest foreign-born populations, including California, have extremely high use of welfare by immigrant households. In Texas, for example, nearly 70 percent of households headed by immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare. Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of native-born households in Texas are on welfare.
In New York and Florida, a majority of households headed by immigrants and noncitizens are on welfare. Overall, about 63 percent of immigrant households use welfare while only 35 percent of native-born households use welfare.
President Trump’s administration is looking to soon implement a policy that protects American taxpayers’ dollars from funding the mass importation of welfare-dependent foreign nationals by enforcing a “public charge” rule whereby legal immigrants would be less likely to secure a permanent residency in the U.S. if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, including using Obamacare, food stamps, and public housing.
The immigration controls would be a boon for American taxpayers in the form of an annual $57.4 billion tax cut — the amount taxpayers spend every year on paying for the welfare, crime, and schooling costs of the country’s mass importation of 1.5 million new, mostly low-skilled legal immigrants.
As Breitbart News reported , the majority of the more than 1.5 million foreign nationals entering the country every year use about 57 percent more food stamps than the average native-born American household. Overall, immigrant households consume 33 percent more cash welfare than American citizen households and 44 percent more in Medicaid dollars. This straining of public services by a booming 44 million foreign-born population translates to the average immigrant household costing American taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare.

Liberal California Emigrants are Toxic By R. Quinn Kennedy
When Arizona, a state that has historically leaned conservative, was won by Joe Biden and now-senator Mark Kelly this week, very few were taken by surprise. Extensive polling indicated Arizona was ripe for swinging liberal and in this instance, at least, the polling was correct.
The question is why? Why has a state that held two elected Republican senators as recently as 2018 and which held a dependable stable of electoral votes for GOP presidential candidates become a purple state on its way to becoming solidly blue? Have Arizona residents suddenly awaked to the idea that liberal policies and doctrines are more sensible than conservative ones? Hardly.
The answer regarding Arizona’s swing lies in its neighbor to the west, California. Since 2012, California has overwhelmingly sent more transplants to Arizona than any other state. When surveyed, escaping Californians cite high taxes, high crime rates, unaffordable housing, out-of-control homelessness, and high unemployment rates as their top reasons for fleeing.
Who is responsible for creating such an alarming living environment within the state? California liberals. A November, 2020 report produced by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University stated that California has 395,608 regulatory restrictions. The sheer volume and scope of California regulations creates such a compliance nightmare that they kill entire industries, send housing prices to unattainable heights, and restrict even commonplace liberties for which conservative leaning states are known.
Piled onto California’s endless river of regulations are its nonsensical laws and policies. Twenty major metropolitan cities or counties in California have established laws, ordinances, regulations, or other practices that shield illegal immigrants from prosecution after committing a crime. These counties brazenly safeguard illegal immigrant criminals against deportation either through noncompliance or by refusing to hand them over to federal agencies such as ICE. With over $1.5 trillion in state and local government debt, California effectively has little money to spare for conveniences such as criminal incarceration. What do sanctuary cities and counties see as the alternative to handing illegal immigrant criminals over for deportation? Release them back into the general population, of course.
Consider this: Between 2014 and 2017, the FBI reported that 49 states saw an average increase in crime annually of around 3%. After implementing “humane” alternatives to criminal prosecution, California crime increased more than 12% per year over the same time period . With irrational sanctuary policies that send a clear message of little to no consequence for offenses, is it any wonder California’s crime rate is now spiraling out of control?
Arizona is not the only beneficiary of the California exodus. The Colorado State Demography Office has published an active flow map of people moving into the state from 2010 on. Disturbingly, the state sending the most movers to Colorado since then has consistently been California. As recently as 2004, Colorado had the political trifecta of a Republican governor and a Republican-controlled House and Senate. A short ten years later, all three had turned irrevocably Democrat. The subsequent consequence? A drastic increase in state and local regulations, a dramatic increase in violent crimes, a severe shortage of home inventory and affordable housing, and a staggering increase in homelessness. Do these newfound troubles sound familiar to any other state mentioned here? The only safeguard against out-of-control tax hikes in Colorado is the TABOR Amendment passed by voters 1992, prior to the influx of California residents, that requires taxpayer approval for any new tax. Not surprisingly, emboldened liberals in Colorado are vigorously resolute in repealing this tax hike protection. As of the most recent election they are unsuccessful, yet remain undeterred.
What has coincided with Colorado’s decline? The mass inflow of Californians to the state. Californians have brought with them all the very same liberal doctrines and ideologies that forced their flight from California in the first place. Does this dissuade liberal Californians from shaping Colorado into the very image of California? Not in the least.
If there is any hope for Arizona, it is that they might learn from the resulting ruin of Colorado, however unlikely.
In the 2020 election, Texas was startlingly considered in play for liberals. Since 2015, which state has contributed the most emigrants into Texas? Not surprisingly, the state of California. The hope for liberals is that they can turn Texas into the next purple soon-to-be blue state. The coveted prize is Texas’ electoral votes. Even more insidious, if liberals are able to capture Texas as they have done in Colorado and Arizona, they will force the state to join the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. They will then achieve their ultimate goal of a Democrat president reigning over the United States for endless generations until the point our country experiences the same collapse as other great civilizations throughout world history.
The obvious question is this: How can Texas avoid the same fate as states such as Colorado and Arizona? Simple. By being proactive.
It is much easier for liberals to enact new legislation than to argue for the removal of existing laws. With this in mind, Texas should take advantage of their current Republican-controlled Senate, House, and governor’s office by making haste and passing laws that would limit the future incursion of liberal meddling. Texas can presently enact laws that prohibit sanctuary cities, require voter approval to remove the state’s mandated balanced budget, require that any new regulation must necessitate the removal of an existing one, and compel voter approval of each new local or state tax including non-user fees. While such laws may only serve to stem the liberal takeover of the state, they would be roadblocks making it much more difficult for ideological infiltration in areas that affect inhabitant’s liberties and quality of life.
It would be absurd to suppose Californians have malintent. Rather, they are simply following the course with which they are most familiar while being blissfully ignorant of the negative unintended consequences their political ideology brings. To suggest that any act of suppression, aggression, or intimidation towards Californians moving into red states is acceptable would simply be un-American and subject to the same type of hypocrisy liberals practice. If conservatives stoop to their level, we have lost the battle and, perhaps, the war.
However, by taking aggressive legislative action in states that have not yet succumbed to liberal infiltration, Conservatives will effectively be planting our flag in a defiant refusal to hand over our institutions and our liberty.

California’s State Senate passed a bill last week to give unemployed illegal migrants $300 weekly unemployment checks for up to 20 weeks, despite the fact that the state faces a $32 billion budget deficit.
As Breitbart News reported last month:
California’s fiscus has fallen in the space of one year from a surplus of $100 billion, partly based on federal cash for coronavirus relief, to a staggering deficit of $32 billion.
In his revised budget, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) cautioned legislators to maintain “prudence.” But under SB 227 , “excluded” workers who are in the country illegally would be able to receive $300 per week in benefits.

California’s unemployment insurance program is already controversial, having lost $30 billion in fraudulent claims during the pandemic. The state recently defaulted on a federal loan to cover a shortfall in benefits.
Now, the Washington Free Beacon reports , the bill, SB 227, proposed by State Sen. María Elena Durazo (D-Agoura Hills), has passed the State Senate and moves to the Assembly, with heavy potential implications:
Under SB 227, unemployment fund officials would be barred from asking for claimants’ social security number eligibility or contacting past or present employers to verify their job status. Instead, applicants would self-attest that they meet the requirements for the weekly checks: having earned at least $1,300 or worked at least 93 hours over three months. Acceptable documentation would include tax returns, transaction logs on payment apps, and receipts that show a commuting pattern.
The State Senate passed the measure just months after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) said the undocumented migrant influx could “break” California.

The Golden State already offers free health coverage and driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. More than two million illegal immigrants live in California.

San Francisco’s Biggest Population Losses: Ages 25-34 Justin Sullivan/Getty Images San Francisco lost a higher percentage of residents during the pandemic between the ages of 25 and 29 than any other population group, followed closely by residents between the ages of 30 and 34, Census data show.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that the city’s biggest percentage losses were among the age cohort that makes up the bulk of entry-level jobs — and that is also responsible for starting young families:
Newly-released U.S. census data shows that the city’s biggest population losses from 2020 to 2022 came from residents in their late 20s and early 30s.
The data shows that the number of San Franciscans ages 25 to 29 dropped from 94,000 in April 2020 to 74,000 in June 2022, a 21% decrease. The second largest decline was among 30- to 34-year-olds, going from 105,000 in 2020 to just under 88,000 in 2022, a 16% decrease. The third greatest decrease was among 0- to 4-years olds.
For all of these age groups, most of the decline happened in the first year of the pandemic, but even from 2021 to 2022, their populations continued to fall, and at unusually high rates.
While other cities also lost residents, San Francisco has been unusually slow to recover. Mobile phone data suggest that San Francisco’s recovery has been slower than of 62 other major U.S. cities.
The city is suffering an ongoing exodus of retail stores from the downtown area, partly because of population losses and the lack of foot traffic, but also because of crime, homelessness, and drugs in the city.

“Wall Street is betting against America’s [Democrat-run] downtowns,” writes the Wall Street Journal .
“Investors are paying less for bonds linked to New York subways and buses,” says the report. “Downtown-focused real-estate investment trusts trade at less than half their prepandemic levels. Bondholders are demanding extra interest to hold office-building debt.”
Downtowns have been a mother lode for American cities over the years, providing billions of dollars in tax revenue along with their distinctive skylines. In turn, investors who bet on downtown office towers, or on the trains and buses delivering workers to them, could generally trust they held a winning hand.
Now, with white-collar workers spending more time in their home offices, a phenomenon that shows few signs of ending, investments linked to downtowns are trading at falling prices in volatile markets.
And which downtowns are we talking about? Democrat-run Houston. Democrat-run Chicago. Democrat-run Los Angeles. Democrat-run San Francisco. Democrat-run New York.
Does anyone see a pattern emerging here?

John Irias via Storyful “Investors’ dimming view of downtowns isn’t good news for [Democrat-run] cities’ finances, nor for their residents,” continues the report. “It puts under strain some of [Democrat-run] city governments’ traditional ways of extracting wealth: collecting property taxes on office buildings, taxes on wages earned within city limits, and fares from office workers’ commutes.”
One analyst described it this way : “You could see this as a slow-motion change or as the beginning of a slow-moving train wreck.”Things are so bad in Democrat-run New York; the library is preparing to close down one day a week in order to save money.According to one tracking group, Democrat-run downtown office buildings “are only about 50% as full as before Covid-19 across 10 major [Democrat-run] metro areas[.]”

I’ll tell you exactly what happened… 1) people discovered they enjoyed working from home, 2) companies discovered it was much cheaper to allow employees to work from home, 3) parents discovered Republicans don’t cause havoc by closing schools, and (most importantly), 4) people discovered that Democrats are willing to use any excuse to unleash chaos, disrupt the lives of citizens, and grab dictatorial power they wield without mercy or reason (liquor stores open, churches, gyms, and schools closed). So, people fled.
People complain about the rat race, the rut, and routine; that’s why they enjoy shows like The Walking Dead; it allows them to fantasize about breaking the routine with a little adventure. But the excitement wore off pretty quickly when the reality of that “adventure” hit with the lockdowns.
People missed their dull, uneventful lives and grew to appreciate them. But now that power-mad Democrats have proven they are willing to throw a grenade at our gloriously dull and uneventful lives, people and companies fled.
You see, this is why socialism can only “work” through violence. In a free country like ours, one where we can just pick up and go if we don’t like things, the Woke Reich will always lose. People want to be free. Most of all, they want to be left alone. Above all, they want their children left alone. Only the threat of violence can create a society where people don’t flee, and of course, that threat of violence starts with confiscating every law-abiding citizen’s guns.

The number of embattled hotels may soon rise as more than 20 locations will face loans due in the next two years, the Journal reported.
Perhaps the biggest hit to the local market came last week when the owner of both the city's largest hotel, the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, and its fourth-largest, Parc 55, said it ceased payments on $725 million worth of loans and entered foreclosure because the city is facing "major challenges."
The decision was "very difficult, but necessary" because of "concerns over street conditions," office vacancies, and reduced conventions, said Thomas J. Baltimore Jr., CEO of Park Hotels & Resorts, which owns the two hotels.

The hotels follow a long line of businesses that have chosen to flee. Old Navy announced in May it will close its flagship store. A crowd of spectators screamed insults and booed the officials, and one of them threw a brick that almost hit a child, local outlet KRON4 reported . The city officials adjourned the meeting amid the disruption and continued it from inside the city hall building.
A recent study found very few people in the Bay Area feel safe on public transportation. The Bay Area Council found in a poll that 78 percent of residents said they would ride more often if trains and buses were safer and cleaner. Just 17 percent of those asked said they feel safe on public transit.
Democrat governor Gavin Newsom downplayed San Francisco's struggles in an interview this week, saying the city is going through a "rebirth" and "reimagination." "They're struggling to recover from the pandemic," Newsom said when asked about crime causing businesses to flee. "They're struggling with the macroeconomic shifts."

San Francisco Death Spiral Continues — Cinemark Closes Downtown Movie Theater Business Wire/AP 2:49
The Cinemark Movie Theater chain has announced that it will be permanently shutting down its Downtown San Francisco Centre location this Friday, as San Francisco continues its death spiral of shuttered businesses proliferating across the city.
This week, shopping center giant Westfield announced that it will be closing its once booming shopping mall located just south of the city’s famed Chinatown and Nob Hill neighborhoods due to the troubling “dynamics of the downtown” area, a not-so-subtle hint at the city’s soaring crime rate and subsequent loss of foot traffic and tourists.
Only two days later, Cinemark made an announcement of its own and told customers that it will be shuttering its theater in the mall, with its last showings happening on Thursday, according to the San Francisco Standard .
The paper added that Cinemark said it was closing the location after a “comprehensive review of local business conditions.”
The Standard also noted that the theater is accessible via a bank of elevators in the mall concourse, and the lifts had often been found smeared with human waste.
Cinemark is hardly alone. More than half the stores and eateries in the mall have closed since 2020.
The Standard included a list of more than 20 major retail chains that have closed their doors since 2020, including the Gap, the Disney Store, Amazon, Office Depot, Nordstrom, Old Navy, and many more.
San Francisco’s retail decline has been far worse than the general decline forced on retailers by the response to the coronavirus, especially as the City By The Bay has been hit with the trend of businesses allowing employees to work from home and a massive population decline as people flee the failing city for other regions. With these pressures, San Francisco’s recovery was one of the slowest in the nation.

Politics has also been a major source of trouble for the city. Liberals try to claim that San Francisco’s soft-on-crime policies have not led to the retail exodus, but shoplifting has led to the closing of a growing number of stores, and some employees of downtown retailers fear coming to work.

News of Park Hotels & Resorts' plan to surrender ownership of two of San Francisco's largest hotels
The company behind the hotels announced Monday it had stopped making payments on its $725million loan that is due in November for the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 hotels.
Though Park Hotels owns the largest and fourth largest hotels in San Francisco, they are by no means the only hotels suffering and going under as loan repayment date close in.
The Huntington on Nob Hill and Yotel on Market Street are two hotels that were recently sold in foreclosure auctions, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Analysts are now warning that more than two dozen hotels could be joining as they have loans due in the next couple of years as San Francisco continues to struggle with prevalent drug use and an exploding homeless population.

Real estate data firm CoStar's senior director of hospitality Emmy Hise told the Chronicle 30 more hotels face massive loans due in the next two years.
She said the issue of crime and stores leaving the area have impacted the public's view of the Bay Area.
'Most downtowns are struggling with this issue,' she said. 'San Francisco has been getting a lot of the national press.'
The exact amount the 30 hotels will owe is unknown, it's also unclear which will need to pay as details of the locations has not been released.
The Chronicle reported after Park Hotels, the second-largest mortgage deadline will arrive in January of 2024, when the Hilton San Francisco Financial District faces a $97million loan maturation. As of March, less than $10million of the loan has been paid off.
The Huntington was sold to two hotel investment and management firms that say they plan to 'restore and elevate every aspect ' of the hotel, 'returning it to its original glory while reestablishing it as the single finest luxury hotel in San Francisco.'
The hotel defaulted on its $56.2million mortgage.

The Yotel on Market Street, a tech-savvy hotel with micro hotel rooms, was purchased last year for $62million at a foreclosure auction.
Its owner, Synapse Development Group, defaulted on $64.5million in loans last March. It was purchased by New York-based investment firm Monarch Alternative Capital.
Park Hotels CEO Thomas Baltimore Jr said in a statement Monday: 'After much thought and consideration, we believe it is in the best interest for Park's stockholders to materially reduce our current exposure to the San Francisco market.'
'Now, more than ever we believe San Francisco's path to recovery remains clouded and elongated by major challenges - both old and new.
The company blames record-high office vacancy of around 30 percent, concerns over street conditions, a lower rate of return to offices compared with other cities and a 'weaker than expected citywide convention calendar through 2027 that will negatively impact business and leisure demand' for the declining value of the properties for the failure of their properties.
San Francisco has struggled to rebound following the pandemic, much more so than other major cities. Its daily hotel room rate of $234 over the course of the last year is below 2019 levels. While every other major market is above 2019 figures - partially due to inflation.
The city's highest spending group of leisure tourists were from China, and they were barred from returning until the Chinese government ended its strict travel controls earlier this year.
Corporate travel has also taken a hit as tech firms reduce firm size and attempt to cut costs. Some major conferences formerly hosted in San Francisco have also chosen new cities due to rising crime.

A significant handful of high-profile criminal episodes, in addition to a number of retail closures prompted by rampant and unprosecuted theft, have tarnished the city's image to potential visitors.
According to one analysis , San Francisco is suffering from the slowest downtown recovery of any of the 62 largest cities in the US and Canada post-pandemic.
Making that recovery even slower are the stores that have announced they are ditching the downtown area.
Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Saks Off 5th, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Office Depot have all made the decision to abandon their downtown locations. Williams-Sonoma also announced it will shut down in 2024.
Out of 203 retailers open in 2019 in the city's Union Square area, just 107 are still operating, a drop of 47 percent in just a few pandemic-ravaged years.
Even prior to the pandemic, organizers were beginning to make different decisions about where to hold their conferences. In 2018, a major medical-industry conference said they would convene elsewhere due to the city's homelessness issue.
San Francisco is anticipating 23.9million visitors in 2023, who will spend a total of $8.7billion. The record high for the spending figure came in 2019 and totaled $9.6billion.
But that figure could be lower given the issues the city faces and without much progress in cleaning up the streets.

In another criminal episode, Don Carmignani, 53, an ex-fire chief, is facing charges for using pepper spray on a homeless man who proceeded to brutally attack him with a metal crowbar.
Carmignani suffered a fractured skull and jaw. Prosecutors are able to charge him because he used pepper spray on the vagrant thereby instigating the attack, but the city's District Attorney has opted not to prosecute the homeless man because he was acting in 'self-defense.'

T here is an insatiable appetite for what’s happening in San Francisco, the editor-in-chief of a British media outlet recently told me. I get it—we have controversy, conflict, Tammany Hall–style corruption, villains, and heroes, all playing out against a stunning, if blemished, backdrop. For the rest of the country, rooting for the city’s success (or failure) has become a kind of sport. For San Franciscans themselves, it can feel like being trapped in a never-ending cycle of high hopes and deep despair. For us, each week is another cliff-hanger in a long-running drama.
I n the early 1990s, the dot-com boom blasted through San Francisco. Internet-based startups, some little more than a vague concept and a sign on a door, bought out legacy businesses and soon occupied entire buildings, if not city blocks. Angry denunciations of “gentrification” were met with hoots of merriment from speculators, arriving from across the globe. The city’s proximity to Silicon Valley made it the playground for young—and yes, often obnoxious—wealth builders. Rents and housing prices skyrocketed with the influx of venture-capital-backed newcomers.
Though the first dot-com bubble burst just a few years later, the next tech wave arrived shortly thereafter, crowding in with the financial district’s traditional banking, investing, and legal firms. Companies from Airbnb to Zynga planted flags at their new headquarters. Soon Marc Benioff erected his Salesforce Tower, dramatically altering the city’s skyline.
Then came the pandemic. Nearly all tech workers went fully remote, causing urban life to screech to a halt. In 2023, many of these firms’ office buildings remain hauntingly empty, including Benioff’s tower. The delicate ecosystem of bars and restaurants favored by workers has nearly collapsed, devastating a once-vibrant financial district. Today, the financial district’s skyscrapers sport “for lease” signs as mass layoffs and hiring freezes continue. The talent, accustomed to calling shots, now find themselves somewhat adrift. Those who loathed the arrogant newcomers finally have their moment of schadenfreude.
Augmenting the melodrama is Elon Musk, who swept into town to buy Twitter in October 2022. Almost immediately, this wild card fired nearly half the company’s 7,500 employees, and then ordered most of the rest back to the office. Musk’s unpredictable actions, both in the city and online, are theoretical wonders.
S an Francisco, said architect Frank Lloyd Wright, was “the only city I can think of that can survive all the things you people are doing to it and still look beautiful.” In general, this observation remains true, but one particular area grapples with almost unimaginable abuse.
The Tenderloin, roughly 50 blocks of mayhem cradling City Hall and adjacent to the shopping district of Union Square, has long been the place to live if you can’t afford anything else. It’s home to some of the city’s most gorgeous early-twentieth-century architecture, though most buildings are dilapidated and teeming with vermin. About 70 are single-room-occupancy hotels , designated for people with low or no incomes. Many residents are Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern immigrants, poor families, the disabled, or senior citizens. Others are people with drug and mental-illness problems, placed there by the city’s homeless department and a web of contracted nonprofits.

While the Tenderloin is often compared with its scripted cousin, Hamsterdam , from HBO’s The Wire , this real containment zone has porous boundaries. Outlying neighborhoods have seen an uptick in tents, as people flood the city in search of drugs and handouts, attracted by a lenient attitude toward vagrancy.
In December 2022, the Coalition on Homelessness and the ACLU brought a lawsuit against the city, preventing the police from clearing encampments. U.S. Magistrate Judge Donna Ryu issued the injunction, which City Attorney David Chiu quickly appealed. The Tenderloin remains the epicenter of civic neglect, but as similar problems reach the doorsteps of residents elsewhere, the fight for safe, clean communities is intensifying.
P erhaps no aspect of life in San Francisco is as tragic as its drug disaster. From January 2021 to November 2022, more than 1,225 people died of overdoses in the city. Opioids, cocaine, and methamphetamines are all sold in the open. Most of the dealers are part of a powerful cartel of Honduran nationals.
Fentanyl is particularly prolific and cheap. San Francisco’s toleration of the purchase and use of illegal drugs has lured addicts from around the country; all too often, they end up homeless and at death’s door.
The situation became so dire that Mayor London Breed declared a state of emergency in January 2022 and opened the Linkage Center in UN Plaza. The intention was to connect the city’s exploding drug-using population to addiction treatment and other critical services. Mothers who had lost children to the streets of San Francisco were hopeful. Finally, their kids would receive the support that they needed to get sober and healthy.
Almost immediately, the Linkage Center descended into a ramshackle, filthy, city-funded place to get high. Workers distributed drug-use supplies and administered naloxone when guests overdosed. Hundreds of dealers congregated outside, doing brisk business.
The Department of Public Health denied that the center was an unlawful drug-use site, until independent journalists went undercover to confirm it. I was among them, and I witnessed people shoot up and smoke fentanyl in a space created to connect them to recovery care.
In response, the mothers, who had organized into Mothers Against Drug Addiction and Deaths, staged a protest at the center. They were met by harm-reduction activists, who counterprotested. Not backing down, the women erected a billboard overlooking Union Square, bearing the message “Famous the world over for our brains, beauty and, now, dirt-cheap fentanyl,” set against the background of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Eleven months later, in December 2022, the center was shuttered. At a cost of $22 million, it had proved a humiliating failure for city officials. But the closure was a victory of sorts for the mothers who refused to accept substandard treatment for their children.
S an Francisco’s police ranks are at an all-time low, with the force short by at least 500 sworn officers. As in cities across the nation, a number of San Francisco leaders chanted the “defund the police” mantra during the summer of 2020. Mayor Breed was among them. That year, she held a press conference announcing $120 million in cuts from the city’s police and sheriff’s department budgets.
The city, already reeling with escalating crime, was hit hard. Car break-ins, sawed-off catalytic converters, shoplifting, open-air drug markets, smash-and-grab robberies, home invasions, and mail theft soared; people were robbed of their bikes, electronics, and even dogs . Criminals gained the upper hand. Footage of thieves emptying out a Louis Vuitton store in 2021 went viral.
In July 2022, the San Francisco Chronicle asked residents to name the city’s most urgent problem. Crime and public safety ran a close second to homelessness (which is intertwined with drug-related offenses, since many addicts steal to support their habits).
San Francisco’s controversial, ultra-progressive district attorney Chesa Boudin, who took office in January 2020, routinely let arrested drug dealers walk free, eliminated cash bail, and took steps to empty jails of dangerous suspected and convicted criminals. Prominent cases included that of Troy McAlister, a man with an extensive criminal history who was arrested for robbing two women with a fake gun. While McAlister was awaiting trial on a third strike that would have sent him to prison for 25 years to life, Boudin’s office instead negotiated a plea deal, reducing the charges and putting him back on the street. On New Year’s Day 2021, an inebriated McAlister stole a car and drove into 27-year-old Hanako Abe and 60-year-old Elizabeth Platt, killing them both.
City voters recalled Boudin in a special election on June 7, 2022, but criminal-justice-reform activists continue to make it tough for police to do their jobs. The public defender’s office accused sergeant Daniel Solorzano of racial discrimination because he arrested 53 Latino drug dealers in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Solorzano, of Mexican and Nicaraguan heritage, now faces possible disciplinary action and termination. The police commission voted to limit officers’ ability to make pretextual traffic stops, ostensibly to reduce racial profiling. Officers can no longer pull over drivers for actions such as failing to display registration tags or for not having fully functioning rear taillights.

In 2022, Matt Haney, then a city supervisor (now a state assembly member), approved $1.7 million for the construction of a single public toilet, which was to take two years to build, until he retreated in the face of a backlash. Last year, Haney and other supervisors also promoted spending $427,500 to manufacture and test five prototypes of trash cans. The price tag for each can was between $12,000 and $20,000.
Mohammed Nuru, director of San Francisco Public Works, was arrested for fraud after trying to bribe an airport commissioner and granting a trash-hauling company special treatment in exchange for payments. Facing accusations of corruption, bribery, kickbacks, and side deals dating back to 2008, Nuru pled guilty in 2022 and was sentenced to seven years in federal prison.
In 2021, the school board denied a gay father of a biracial child a spot on the volunteer-parent committee because he is white. During the pandemic, the board debated the destruction of a mural of George Washington at the high school named after the nation’s first president, tried to rename 44 schools after claiming that their namesakes were linked to slavery or racism, and revoked the merit-based admissions process at the city’s renowned magnet Lowell High School. In March 2022, infuriated parents led a recall effort, ending in a landslide vote to remove a trio of board members. In a spectacular display of hubris, ousted board member Alison Collins filed an $87 million lawsuit against the school district and five of her fellow board members. A federal judge tossed the suit for lack of merit.
The city’s massive $14 billion annual budget is itself a disgrace. San Francisco gifted over $1 billion to more than 600 nonprofits in 2022 to fix the quality-of-life issues bedeviling citizens. No substantial improvements resulted. In January 2023, news that $25 million had been awarded to revoked, suspended, and delinquent nonprofits shocked even jaded observers. Eighteen city agencies somehow failed to notice that they were paying millions in taxpayer dollars to defunct organizations.
G orgeous, wild San Francisco has been dragged through the mud by the very officials who have been tasked to keep it clean. Years of grift and extremism have done tremendous damage. Yet serious efforts to revive the city are ramping up. Brooke Jenkins, the current district attorney, has been busy reversing Boudin’s soft approach on crime. She is revoking misdemeanor plea offers for fentanyl dealers and pursuing second-degree murder charges against dealers linked to overdose deaths. Voters have elected some moderate supervisors, and more are expected to run in the 2024 election.
To know what’s really happening in San Francisco, you need to listen to the city’s passionate residents and business owners. They’re mobilizing, getting louder and stronger, demanding positive outcomes. While it’s highly unlikely that the city will ever lean to the political right (nor, for most, is that the intention), there is an undeniable shift away from the hard left. This much is guaranteed: the cast of characters will change again, with hirings and firings and elections, as the next set of opportunists sails into the City by the Bay. San Francisco’s drama will be renewed for many more seasons.

Another Corporation Ditches San Francisco Over City's 'Major Challenges' Getty Images Two of the largest hotels in San Francisco are set to close, following a trend of businesses fleeing the Democrat-led city as it faces a surge in crime.
The owner of the city's largest hotel, the Hilton San Francisco Union Square, and its fourth-largest, Parc 55, will cease payments on $725 million worth of loans and enter foreclosure on the hotels because the city is facing "major challenges."
The decision was "very difficult, but necessary" because of "concerns over street conditions," office vacancies, and reduced conventions, said Thomas J. Baltimore Jr., CEO of Park Hotels & Resorts, which owns the two hotels.
"Now more than ever, we believe San Francisco’s path to recovery remains clouded and elongated by major challenges, both old and new," Baltimore said.
The hotels are far from the first businesses to flee. Old Navy last week announced it will close its flagship store. Whole Foods and Nordstrom have shuttered businesses in the city over safety concerns. The latter's exit is costing the city 380 jobs. The downtown area of the city has lost half of its businesses since the start of the pandemic.
Democratic mayor London Breed and several city officials held an outdoor meeting on crime last month in the city's United Nations Plaza, known for drug use and crime. A crowd of spectators screamed insults and booed the officials, and one of them threw a brick that almost hit a child, local outlet KRON4 reported . The city officials adjourned the meeting amid the disruption and continued it from inside the city hall building.
A recent study found very few people in the Bay Area feel safe on public transportation. The Bay Area Council found in a poll that 78 percent of residents said they would ride more often if trains and buses were safer and cleaner. Just 17 percent of those asked said they feel safe on public transit.
Even comedian Dave Chapelle is concerned about the state of San Francisco. He asked an audience there last month, "What the f— happened to this place?"
"Y’all ... need a Batman!" Chappelle reportedly told the crowd. The comedian recounted his experience at an Indian restaurant in the city, where he saw a homeless man defecate in front of the building as he entered.

The owner of two major hotels in downtown San Francisco is preparing to give the properties up to foreclosure as the city’s downtown decline continues, with retail shops leaving the area amid crime and homelessness.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday:
The owner of two of San Francisco’s biggest hotels — Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 — has stopped mortgage payments and plans to give up the two properties, in another sign of disinvestment in hard-hit downtown.
Park Hotels & Resorts said Monday that it stopped making payments on a $725 million loan due in November and expects the “ultimate removal of these hotels” from its portfolio. The company said it would “work in good faith with the loan’s servicers to determine the most effective path forward.”
The 1,921-room Hilton is the city’s largest hotel and the 1,024-room Parc 55 is the fourth-largest, and together they account for around 9% of the city’s hotel stock. The hotels could potentially be taken over by lenders or sold to a new group as part of the foreclosure process.
San Francisco has been suffering an exodus of major retail stores from the Union Square area over the past several months. The city also lost residents during the pandemic, and there are fewer commuters due to a shift to work-from-home in the tech industry. Amid a looming commercial real estate collapse , experts are advising the city to think about creative and drastic solutions to bring visitors back to the city before it is too late.
The Chronicle notes that tourism spending in the city is up, but convention attendance has fallen drastically and is not expected to recover for years. The cost of living in the city also remains high, despite its troubles.
Mayor London Breed has been at pains to deny that the downtown area is facing economic collapse, as have left-wing pundits eager to deflect criticism of years of soft-on-crime policies. But the crisis continues to worsen.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed said Monday that President Joe Biden is not doing enough to fight the scourge of fentanyl and needs to do more.
Breed led a bipartisan group of mayors in a resolution adopted at the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in San Francisco. The resolution reads , in part:
The United States Conference of Mayors adopted a resolution sponsored by Mayor London N. Breed to support urgent and increased federal enforcement and public health interventions to address the fentanyl crisis. The resolution was supported by a bi-partisan group of Mayors from across the country.
“Locally we are doing all we can to address the challenges of open-air drug dealing of fentanyl in our community,” said Mayor Breed . “Despite the strong and laudable efforts of our local law enforcement agencies, we know San Francisco—and cities across the United States—needs more support. The trafficking and dealing of fentanyl is a national crisis, and requires a robust response from the federal government.”
Specifically, the resolution calls on the Biden Administration to act immediately and increase its enforcement and prosecution of high-level fentanyl drug traffickers and dealers in communities throughout the country. Mayor Breed ’s resolution states that it is imperative that the federal government increase its collaboration with local authorities to combat drug trafficking and dealing, and form joint investigations with local law enforcement to pursue these traffickers and dealers.
Until now, President Biden has primarily faced criticism from Republicans for his lax border policies, which have allowed millions of migrants into the country, as well as drug smugglers bringing in deadly fentanyl.
But Mayor Breed, facing what she calls a “public health calamity” from opioid abuse in San Francisco, has begun demanding that the federal government do more to assist, as state and local efforts have faltered.
The issue has become a potent one in the 2024 presidential race. Former President Donald Trump has vowed to “wage war” on drug cartels, and Democratic Party candidate Robert F. Kennedy says he will seal the border.

Gavin Newsom Threatens to Charge Ron DeSantis with ‘Kidnapping’ Migrants Ray Chavez, Joe Raedle/Getty Images 2:42
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) accused Florida Gov Ron DeSantis (R) of “kidnapping” 16 migrants who were flown from New Mexico to Sacramento, California, allegedly without advance preparation for their arrival.
According to the Los Angeles Times , “The 16 migrants from Venezuela and Colombia were initially transported by bus from El Paso to New Mexico, where they boarded the flight to Sacramento, officials said. They were dropped off at the doorstep of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento on Friday.”
California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued a statement on Saturday accusing the state government of Florida of being behind the transfer of the migrants, who initially crossed the U.S. border in Texas.
Millions of migrants have crossed the border, many illegally, since President Joe Biden has taken office. Texas has a policy of relocating some migrants to other states and cities, often “sanctuary cities” run by Democrats.
Florida, too, has relocated migrants who were initially sent to the state. Last fall, DeSantis sent a planeload of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, the offshore haven where the members of the Democratic Party elite have homes. The island, unable to accommodate the migrants despite the proliferation of political signs welcoming immigrants to the country, relocated the migrants to a shelter on a mainland military base within 24 hours.
Newsom, who spends a great deal of his time on social media trolling conservative governors, especially DeSantis, accused DeSantis of kidnapping on Monday, though there is no evidence DeSantis was involved:
Newsom, who left his state for a vacation in Mexico during deadly blizzards earlier this year winter, did not address the underlying migrant issue, or California’s generous welfare policies toward illegal migrants.
The Times notes that California authorities have yet to release documents proving that Florida was involved; the migrants never entered Florida.

Dem Rep. Chu: We Need to Repeal Work Requirements in Debt Bill and Have More Immigration to Deal with Worker Shortage On Tuesday’s broadcast of C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal,” Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA) stated that the U.S. needs more immigration to deal with a shortage of workers and that she hopes the increased work requirements for SNAP benefits in the debt limit bill should be repealed.
Chu said, “I’m a co-sponsor of the farm worker modernization bill. Agriculture’s really hurting because they need the workers to be able to pick those crops. And they are constantly asking for a way to have a steady stream of workers that will do that that they can rely on. But I want to tell you that, just this past week, I visited Texas Instruments and Texas Instruments is doing a magnificent job [of] bringing the semiconductor business here to the level that it should be. … But what they told me is that they don’t have enough workers there who can produce those semiconductors. We need skilled people in engineering and so forth in the STEM professions that can do that. And they said that we in the United States have not invested in STEM education over the last decade. We can do it, but it’ll take a while to ramp up. And what we need [is] to be able to be welcoming to the people around the world who want to come here, they want to come and work here. We need to make sure that we can get them here so that we can get industries like semiconductors, the semiconductor industry to the place where it can be, so that we can make America the leader in innovation and technology.”
She added, “[B]elieve me, the food stamps — what we call SNAP now — what it provides is not an extravagant amount of food. We’re talking about two dollars a day. And I challenge a lot of people to live on that, but it is enough so that at least people can eat. So, that’s why I was so upset about raising the age level for those who would get the SNAP benefits, the food benefits from 49 to 54, and I thi nk that should not have been done. I hope that one day we can return it back to what it was.”

Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is asking Hispanics in Florida not to vote for Ron DeSantis in his bid for the 2024 presidential nomination. The Mexican politician claims that DeSantis, much like other Republicans, is using an anti-immigrant message for political purposes.
Despite his constant criticism of the U.S. government for interfering in other countries’ politics, Lopez Obrador (AMLO) openly called for Hispanics in Florida to not give a single vote to DeSantis.
“I’ll take the time to tell Mr. Santi [sic ] who unmasked himself [this week], see I wasn’t wrong,” Lopez Obrador said as he waved his hand in a greeting fashion. “That all of his politicking about migrants was because he wants to be the candidate for the Republican Party.
The Mexican President criticized DeSantis claiming that he had applied anti-migrant policies in his state and as such he hoped that Hispanics repaid him at the polls.
“I hope the Hispanics in Florida wake up and don’t give him a single vote,” Lopez Obrador said. “That they don’t vote for those who target migrants. Those who don’t respect migrants.”
Lopez Obrador called DeSantis a hypocrite and asked for him to be investigated to see if he had hired migrants.
DeSantis, like various other U.S. politicians, have fiercely criticized Mexico’s government in connection with the current fentanyl crisis. The extremely dangerous drug is linked to record-setting overdose deaths. As Breitbart Texas has reported, Lopez Obrador falsely denied that fentanyl is produced in Mexico and claimed that the problem is caused by the U.S. demand for drugs. AMLO claimed that Florida should be investigated to see if the ports of that state could be the entry point for fentanyl from Asia.
As Breitbart Texas has reported, Lopez Obrador verbally clashed with U.S. politicians who he believes are interfering in Mexican politics. He has also stated that he will be asking people to not vote for certain candidates that do not align with his view.

190 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized at Arizona Immigration Checkpoint U.S. Border Patrol/Yuma Sector 4:30
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than 190 pounds of fentanyl at an interior immigration checkpoint.
Retiring U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz tweeted photos from an immigration checkpoint near Yuma, Arizona. The images, taken last week, show more than 190 pounds hidden behind the rear seats of the alleged smuggler’s vehicle.
As the vehicle approached the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint on May 30, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the pickup truck. A physical search of the vehicle led to the discovery of plastic-wrapped packages of drugs.
Chief Ortiz reported that the 190 pounds of fentanyl are enough to provide more than 40 million lethal doses.
Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel reported the value of the drugs to be more than $2 million.
A few days later, Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than 229 pounds of fentanyl pills. The troopers found the drugs during a traffic stop on Interstate 19 near Amado, Arizona.
Border Patrol Agent Fidel Cabrera told KYMA, “It’s one of the largest if not the largest [fentanyl seizure] we’ve had here in Yuma.”
Between October 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023, Yuma Sector agents apprehended 289 pounds of fentanyl, according to a CBP report. This seven-month total nearly equals the total seizures of fentanyl for the past three years combined. Adding in the seizure above brings this year’s total to approximately 480 pounds compared to 336 pounds for the prior three years combined. The seizure by Arizona DPS cited above will not be included in the CBP reports.
Agents in the San Diego Sector also seized 112 pounds of fentanyl pills on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, California, on May 18, Breitbart Texas reported . During FY23, San Diego Sector agents seized 866 pounds of fentanyl through the end of April, the CBP report states. During the same period last year, agents seized nearly 420 pounds of the deadly drug.

112 Pounds of Fentanyl Seized near Border in California U.S. Border Patrol/San Diego Sector 2:36
San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents seized approximately 112 pounds of fentanyl. The seizure followed a traffic stop on Interstate 8 near the Pine Valley checkpoint on May 18.
San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke tweeted photos of bundles of blue fentanyl pills seized by Campo Station agents near the Interstate 8 checkpoint. The fentanyl weighed approximately 112 pounds.
Campo Station agents conducted an immigration inspection traffic stop on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley, California, on May 18, according to a statement from Border Patrol officials. During the stop, a Border Patrol K-9 team conducted a walk-around search of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the SUV.
The agents transported the driver, a U.S. citizen, and the vehicle to the nearby immigration checkpoint for a physical search of the vehicle. During the search, the agents found nine plastic-wrapped packages containing blue pills.
The pills tested positive for fentanyl, officials stated. Agents determined the weight of the pills to be 112 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $1.5 million.
The agents turned the driver over to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The Drug Enforcement Administration took possession of the fentanyl pills.
“Transnational criminal organizations do everything they can to distribute these harmful narcotics and earn their profits with no regard for the destructive effects they have on our communities,” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Aaron M. Heitke said in a written statement. “Our Border Patrol agents remain vigilant, day and night, to intercept these poisons and the smugglers who transport them.”

Armed Cartel Gunmen Arrested in Texas near Border, Says DPS Texas Department of Public Safety 1:45
Department of Public Safety troopers working the border region near Fronton, Texas, encountered a group of armed migrants. The troopers seized two tactical rifles found in the possession of the migrants.
DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez told Breitbart Texas that troopers and National Guard soldiers working the border under Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star border security mission, apprehended a group of five migrants last week — two were armed with AR-15-style rifles.

The men are believed to be connected to the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas, Olivarez stated. “One of the men told CID special agents they came under fire from Mexican law enforcement and fled across the Rio Grande,” Olivarez stated. All of the men were found wearing camouflage making the search to find them more difficult.
Border Patrol agents from the Laredo Sector and Texas law enforcement conducted a search of the area where the first group was found. During the search, the team found two more migrants — both juveniles. Law enforcement sources said the juveniles looked afraid from what they had encountered on the Mexican side of the river.

Olivarez said this is a prime example of the consequences of an unsecured border. These include threats to national security and public safety.

The federal government uses immigration to suppress Americans’ salaries and wages, according to an article in the Atlantic , which is a very pro-migration and establishment magazine.
The federal policymakers believe that “labor is just another commodity, like wood or oil, and Americans are best off when it is plentiful and cheap,” the June 2 article says .
Author Oren Cass, the founder of the mainstream American Compass think-tank, wrote:
American public policy has largely managed to keep things that way. Over the past 50 years , as both parties supported the entry of millions of unskilled immigrants and the offshoring of entire industries, America’s per capita gross domestic product more than doubled after adjusting for inflation. Productivity of labor rose by a similar amount, and corporate profits per capita nearly tripled. Yet over the same time period, the average inflation-adjusted hourly earnings of the typical worker rose by less than 1 percent.
The massive distortion is revealed by the declining share of new wealth that goes to employees since about 1970.
Amid migration, technological centralization, and outsourcing to China, U.S. employees’ share of new wealth dropped 10 points from 1970 to 2014 — from 51.6 percent to 41.9 percent — according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Employees’ share jumped 1 point up under President Donald Trump’s lower-migration policy. But their share seems to be declining again under President Joe Biden’s easy migration rules.

From 1972 to 2022, real corporate profits per capita rose 185%. GDP per capita rose 141%. Productivity rose 135%. The average hourly wage for production and nonsupervisory workers rose 1%. How is that even possible?
It is possible because employers will tend to raise wages under one, and only one, condition: when they cannot hire the workers they need at the existing wage. All of labor economics turns on that simple fact.
This post-1970 economic shift has moved many trillions of dollars from wage earners to investors from 1970 to 2023, thrilling investors and their allies.
The establishment’s cheap-labor bubble burst in 2020 when the coronavirus crash blocked the supply of new migrant workers. The resulting shortfall allowed many Americans to change jobs in search of higher wages.

But now President Joe Biden and his deputies are dramatically opening the inflow of foreign workers via legal, quasi-legal, and illegal migration routes.
“Immigration is a [policy] lever,” Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo told Axios.com in December 2022. “We’re down a million immigrants a year — that’s a workforce that we need.”
“There are businesses around this country that are desperate for workers [and] there are … desperate workers in foreign countries that are looking for jobs in the United States, ” Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, said on May 11.
“We’re working with the State Department on and DHS [Department of Homeland Security] … to make it easier for [college-graduate migrants] that have these skill sets that we think can really contribute to implementing these new policies, that we can bring them in faster,” White House official Katie Tobin said on May 15.
Cass continued:
This is a grave mistake—politically, economically, and morally. If employers are struggling to find workers, they should offer better pay and conditions. If that comes at the expense of some profits, or requires some prices to rise, well, that’s how markets are supposed to work. In most other contexts, capitalism’s proponents celebrate how the market creates incentives for businesses to solve problems. In that respect, a labor shortage is a great problem to have. Only by challenging employers to improve job quality and boost productivity will we find out what the market’s awesome power can achieve for American workers and their families.
Cass, however, did not offer a term to describe the federal government’s policy of lowering wages via migration.

Extraction Migration
The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration . This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade , and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices . The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because the population replacement allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.

Migration — and especially, labor migration — is unpopular among swing voters . A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats.

Companies in the United States have announced, so far this year, more than 400,000 layoffs — more than the layoffs announced in all of last year. The job cuts come as Democrats, on behalf of business special interests, demand more foreign competition in the labor market for employers to hire.
The employment data, collected by Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. and published in Bloomberg, shows that roughly 417,500 layoffs have been announced from January through May by U.S. companies across sectors such as technology, banking, retail, and media, among others.
Compare those announced layoffs in just the first five months of this year to the 364,000 total layoffs announced in all of 2022. In tech, there have been almost 140,000 layoffs announced this year so far. This is only slightly fewer than the 169,000 layoffs in tech in 2001.
“Companies cited economic conditions and cost-cutting for more than half of the layoffs announced this year,” Bloomberg noted.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has issued similar sentiments.

“We’re ignoring the Business Roundtables of America who are crying out for employees to work alongside Americans,” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) said during a committee hearing last month. “Let me be very clear, we have jobs for Americans, we have tech jobs for Americans, teaching jobs for Americans, law enforcement, firefighter jobs for Americans, but we’re a growing nation.”

California’s State Senate passed a bill last week to give unemployed illegal migrants $300 weekly unemployment checks for up to 20 weeks, despite the fact that the state faces a $32 billion budget deficit.
As Breitbart News reported last month:
California’s fiscus has fallen in the space of one year from a surplus of $100 billion, partly based on federal cash for coronavirus relief, to a staggering deficit of $32 billion.
In his revised budget, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) cautioned legislators to maintain “prudence.” But under SB 227 , “excluded” workers who are in the country illegally would be able to receive $300 per week in benefits.

California’s unemployment insurance program is already controversial, having lost $30 billion in fraudulent claims during the pandemic. The state recently defaulted on a federal loan to cover a shortfall in benefits.
Now, the Washington Free Beacon reports , the bill, SB 227, proposed by State Sen. María Elena Durazo (D-Agoura Hills), has passed the State Senate and moves to the Assembly, with heavy potential implications:
Under SB 227, unemployment fund officials would be barred from asking for claimants’ social security number eligibility or contacting past or present employers to verify their job status. Instead, applicants would self-attest that they meet the requirements for the weekly checks: having earned at least $1,300 or worked at least 93 hours over three months. Acceptable documentation would include tax returns, transaction logs on payment apps, and receipts that show a commuting pattern.
The State Senate passed the measure just months after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) said the undocumented migrant influx could “break” California.

The Golden State already offers free health coverage and driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. More than two million illegal immigrants live in California.

Left-wing Disney-Marvel star Mark Ruffalo has taken a beating on social media after he issued a call to tax billionaires at 90 percent. In a Twitter post on Saturday, Ruffalo, best known for his role as Hulk/Bruce Banner in the Avengers series, shared an article from the far-left outlet Daily Kos that called to tax billionaires at 90 percent.
“When you tax billionaires at 90 percent, they’re still fabulously rich and you have the resources to rebuild a healthy and happy middle class across the nation,” Ruffalo quoted the article in his post.
The article essentially argued that America became a dystopia ever since the Republican-led “roaring 20s” when the tax rates fell.
“The last time we saw the consequences of such inequality was during the Republican ‘Roaring ‘20s’ 100 years ago, when Warren Harding dropped the top income tax rate from 91 percent to 25 percent, the morbidly rich openly bought our politicians, and gangs whose names are still known today roamed the country robbing and killing with impunity,” the article argued .
“Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal put an end to all that, and we need to repeat his example today,” it added. “FDR raised the top income tax bracket from 25 to 90 percent. Wealthy people in America screamed and yelled, claiming it would crash the economy, but instead that top tax rate kicked off the first middle class to encompass more than half a nation’s population in world history.”
Questions over FDR’s New Deal policies and whether or not they prolonged or solved the Great Depression has been a subject of intense debate for years, with Republicans often charging that FDRs policies not only did nothing to solve the Depression but actually made it worse .
Nonetheless, since Mark Ruffalo boasts a net worth of roughly $35 million, his critics on Twitter quickly pointed out that he should be the first to jump down the 90 percent tax hole.

The world’s 10 richest men have more than doubled their fortunes to $1.9 trillion, at a rate of $1.6 billion a day, over the past 12 months, proving elites have largely been spared the misery and financial ruin inflicted on so many by endless enforced lockdowns.
A confederation of charities that focus on alleviating global poverty, Oxfam said members of the globalist financial elites saw their wealth rose more during the pandemic more than it did the previous 14 years, when the world economy was suffering the worst recession since the Wall Street Crash of 1929.

No, that does not come from a critic of President Joe Biden (D); it is the objective statement from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM), truthfully reporting on just the facts on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
Some might argue that 0.20 points downward is an insignificant move, indicating nothing. But this decrease is considered significant because not only is this the seventh month in a row that the index has remained below the 50 threshold, which indicates that the contraction in manufacturing is not only continuing, but slightly accelerating, but it is also the longest period of contraction since the Great Recession of 2008 — roughly June 2007–June 2009. To refresh the memories of those under 35, this not so ancient historical period was a time of major bankruptcies, including GM (yeah, GM) and Bear Stearns; it was also a time of bank bailouts and even more government intervention in the economy.
Sound familiar?
In spite of the gloomy news, the market closed on the up Thursday as "investors applaud debt ceiling progress." In other words — and oh, what not a surprise — the U.S. won't declare official bankruptcy; the US will just get deeper into debt and state that's just fine.

The number of foreign nationals holding jobs in the United States has hit the highest level since the Labor Department began tracking the data in 1996 as the employment of native-born Americans declines, a trend under President Joe Biden.
In 2022, foreign-born workers saw their share of the labor market hit the highest level in almost 30 years at more than 18 percent, with close to 30 million now holding U.S. jobs, according to data published in the Wall Street Journal .
Even though it has gone virtually unreported by corporate media, Breitbart News has extensively documented the Clintons’ longstanding support for “open borders.” Interestingly, as the Los Angeles Times observed in 2007, the Clinton’s praise for globalization and open borders frequently comes when they are speaking before a wealthy foreign audiences and donors.

President Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better Act” is set to give a tax cut to about 67 percent of the nation’s richest Americans — those earning more than $885,000 every year.
A new analysis from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget reveals that the filibuster-proof reconciliation package will give a tax cut to two-thirds of the top one percent of earners even as the top one percent now hold more wealth than the entire American middle class.
“This is true despite the fact that Build Back Better would raise taxes substantially for the extremely rich (mainly those making over $10 million per year),” the analysis states.
In effect, those in the top one percent would receive an average tax cut of more than $16,000 in 2022 under Biden’s plan. The tax cuts for the wealthy would be a result of the plan’s increasing the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap.
As Breitbart News has reported, the plan amounts to a $625 billion tax cut for the wealthiest of Americans living primarily in blue states.

At the same time, Biden’s plan would squeeze an extra $200 billion out of American taxpayers by mostly targeting working and middle class earners with more Internal Revenue Services (IRS) audits.
The plan ensures nearly 600,000 more working and middle class Americans earning $75,000 or less a year would be audited by the IRS. Of those new IRS audits, more than 313,000 would target the poorest of Americans who earn $25,000 or less a year.
Biden’s “Build Back Better Act” has already passed the House, thanks entirely to Democrat support, and now awaits scrutiny in the United States Senate.
In 2017, former President Trump had the SALT deduction capped at $10,000. Since then, Democrats have sought to deliver their wealthy, blue state donors with a massive tax cut by eliminating the cap altogether or greatly increasing it.
Biden, for instance, had sought to include tax cuts for his billionaire donors in a Chinese coronavirus relief package earlier this year. The plan was ultimately cut from the package. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), in May 2020, also tried to include the plan in a coronavirus relief package.

The nation’s biggest tech conglomerates continued hiring foreign workers through the H-1B visa program, even as they carried out mass layoffs of American employees, investigative reporter Lee Fang details.
Since the start of the year, hundreds of thousands of Americans in tech jobs have been laid off, with about 12,000 cut at Google, 10,000 out at Microsoft, close to 20,000 laid off at Amazon, and 10,000 cut from Meta Platforms which owns Facebook and Instagram.
Just weeks after announcing such layoffs, though, the same tech corporations continued hiring foreign workers on the H-1B visa program — known as the “outsourcing visa ” to many Americans.
Lee Fang, formerly of The Intercept , reports :
Sundar Pichai, the chief executive of Google, wrote a solemn letter in January, announcing his company’s decision to lay off 12,000 employees. [Emphasis added]

Just one month later, Pichai’s firm filed applications for low-paid foreign workers to come to America and take highly specialized tech jobs. Google filed dozens of applications for foreign workers to serve as software engineers, analytical consultants, user experience researchers, and other roles. Waymo, the self-driving car company owned by Google, also filed and received visa applications for engineering jobs. Many of the Google visas are for new employees, with some starting as soon as August 17th. [Emphasis added]
Newly disclosed data released yesterday by the Department of Labor shows thousands of recent H1-B foreign worker visas requested by firms that just underwent massive layoffs this year, including Facebook/Meta Platforms, Amazon, Zoom, Salesforce, Microsoft, and Palantir .
That newly published data from Lee Fang matches similar research conducted by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), detailed by Breitbart News last month, which found that the top 30 tech corporations had announced a combined 85,000 layoffs while at the same time importing nearly 35,000 foreign H-1B visa workers to take coveted white-collar American jobs.
For years, Breitbart News has chronicled the abuses against white-collar American professionals as a result of the H-1B visa program. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa foreign workers in the U.S. at any given moment. Americans are often laid off in the process and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News.
“Rather than turning to the H-1B program as a last resort when U.S. workers cannot be found, most employers hire H-1B workers because they can be underpaid and are de facto indentured to the employer,” EPI researchers Daniel Costa and Ron Hira write.
“This is evidenced by government data showing that technology companies continue to hire H-1B workers in large numbers while significantly reducing the sizes of their workforces,” they continue.
The H-1B visa program has caught scrutiny from Republicans for years, though not much has been done to eliminate outsourcing from corporations.
While president in 2020, for example, Donald Trump enacted reforms to require companies seeking foreign H-1B visa workers to offer the highest salaries possible and also saved a number of Americans’ jobs at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) from being outsourced to foreign H-1B visa workers.
Trump is currently the frontrunner in the GOP presidential primary race.
Likewise, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who announced his presidential candidacy this month, has criticized the H-1B visa program for its favoritism to multinational corporations against white-collar American professionals.
“… if there’s legal immigration that’s harming Americans, we shouldn’t do that either,” DeSantis said during a press conference this month. “For example, some of these H-1B visas, they would fire American tech workers and hire foreigners at lower wages. I don’t agree with that. I think that’s wrong.”
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), running for the United States Senate in Indiana, previously put forth a blueprint for reforming the H-1B visa program — many provisions of which were backed by former Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) when he served as a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Banks bill would set a wage floor of $110,000 that companies would have to offer foreign H-1B visa workers or pay hires the same salary currently being paid to Americans doing the same job. Companies offering the highest salaries would be prioritized in the process.
Similarly, companies would be greatly limited in contracting with so-called “body shops” to replace their American employees with imported foreign H-1B visa workers under the Banks legislation.

Americans should celebrate the inflow of migrants into new jobs throughout the economy, even as many American men remain on the economic sidelines, says a Washington Post columnist.
The “share of prime-working-age men in the workforce still hasn’t matched its February 2020 peak [and] is also far below historical highs,” said the June 2 “Celebrate” column by Catherine Rampell.
But more migrants and women are streaming into new jobs, Rampell wrote, adding, “Let’s celebrate the underdogs helping supercharge our economy.”
Rampell’s column celebrates President Joe Biden’s great migration which has smuggled roughly 4 million migrants over the southern border. The illegal inflow is in addition to the normal airport inflow of roughly 1 million legal immigrants, and the fast-growing inflow of legal and illegal white-collar visa workers.

Rampell’s posted chart admits that Biden’s migration-spiked economy has failed to restore the share of men who were working during Trump’s term:
President Joe Biden’s current 89.1 percent share means that roughly 6 million unemployed American men are not even looking for work.
Some have retired early, some are wealthy, and some are lazy. But many of the 6 million are unprepared for low-wage work alongside competition from younger, healthier, and eager migrants.
Yet Rampell prefers to praise the massive migration inflow as normal and to celebrate the huge 9.3 percent expansion in the foreign workforce:
Today, trends in legal immigration have largely normalized, and the numbers of immigrant workers in the United States have more than recovered. You can see this in the labor market data: Employment [number, not share] levels for native-born Americans are just a touch higher than in February 2020, when the pandemic recession began (up on net by 0.3 percent); among foreign-born workers, employment has shot up by 9.3 percent.

Rampell also celebrated the pressured movement of more women into the low-wage labor market, regardless of the resulting decline in births , writing:
Some commentators (myself included) worried that these [coronavirus] disruptions might set working women back a generation or more by knocking them off the career trajectories they had been on.
… as a group, rather than being economically scarred by covid, female workers seemed to have emerged stronger than ever.
Rampell’s column inadvertently reveals how the wage-cutting, rent-spiking inflow of foreign workers minimizes the incentive for establishment figures — such as herself — to take the difficult political decisions that are needed to get sidelined people back to work, or to raise all-important productivity growth above the current rate of just 1.1. percent:
Productivity growth is vital because it allows ordinary Americans to do more work each day and so earn more money each day. Overall, productivity raises ordinary people’s wages — and without triggering the inflation that is now being boosted by migration.
Productivity also helps U.S. companies to expand the U.S. economy via trade. Such trade reduces elites’ pressure for migration and also allows foreign countries to modernize their societies without their young being getting extracted to the U.S. economy.
But the U.S. establishment prefers the easy option of allowing illegal migration over the difficult task of promoting productivity.

Rampell celebrates Biden’s preference for poverty migration , blue-collar migration , and white-collar migration — even though Biden could pressure companies to grow productivity and pull sidelined American men back to marketplace work with offers of more wages, training, and respect.
Biden’s policy also shows the eagerness of his deputies to reinflate President George H.W. Bush’s post-1990 cheap-labor bubble . The labor bubble allowed investors to boost stock market gains via a bigger consumer economy after the export of many high-wage manufacturing jobs to China and Mexico.
Biden’s administration’s preference for more migration also means that wealthy investors do not face marketplace pressure to help reduce early “deaths of despair, ” help people get off drugs, push Mexico on the drug trade, or reduce crime.
“The migration issue “is not just a question of prioritizing US citizens over foreigners,” tweeted commentator Mickey Kaus, adding:
It’s a question of what sort of society we want to have — one where all (even unskilled & ex-cons) can earn enough to live as social equals, or a society that throws large swaths of workers onto the scrapheap.
Rampell has long supported more migration into Americans’ labor market, echoing the establishment’s demand for more cheap workers, apartment-sharing renters, and welfare-aided consumers.
Rampell is tied to the establishment. For example, her brother is an investor in the financial services sector. Most of his start-up companies have asked the federal government for H-1B visa workers to avoid hiring American graduates at higher salaries or paying them with stock options.
Similarly, her pro-migration article was touted by Google’s search engine:
Many other establishment figures favor the use of migrants to expand the economy, regardless of the pocketbook and civic impact on ordinary Americans. Ron Brownstein, a senior editor at the Atlantic , wrote on May 30:
Even as businesses across the nation are complaining about their inability to find enough workers, the federal government is struggling to stem the relentless flow of migrants at the Southern border trying to find work in the US. No one suggests the answer to worker shortages is to open the border, but it remains a paradox that the nation is straining to keep out migrants looking to work even as employers say the shortage of workers is preventing them from filling millions of jobs. That worker shortfall has also emerged as a key factor driving persistent inflation and higher interest rates.
“There’s a mismatch between government policy and the economic reality on the ground,” said David Bier, associate director of immigration studies at the libertarian Cato Institute. “We have a policy designed to keep people out and meanwhile we have a crisis in the labor markets where we have nearly 10 million open jobs and have for two years now.”
Brownstein, however, admitted that the call to import more foreign workers is “politically radioactive .

The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration . This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade , and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices . The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because the population replacement allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.

Migration — and especially, labor migration — is unpopular among swing voters . A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats.
It doesn’t matter that the Democrats are allowing their state to go down the toilet like liberal cities such as Chicago and San Francisco. They are following the example of Lucifer in John Milton’s “Paradise Lost” that it is “Better to reign in Hell, than to serve in Heaven.”
New York is hiding criminal histories
New York is inviting criminals to move to the state. Not literally, but their actions once again are showing that they won’t hold criminals accountable. It began with liberal politicians decriminalizing certain crimes and forcing police to prioritize the calls they answer because of shortages of police officers.
However, some criminals do get arrested. If that happened, liberal district attorneys drop charges or liberal judges dismiss cases.
If criminals are unlucky enough to be convicted for their crimes, well, New York now wants to make sure no one can find out about a person’s criminal record. The state legislature passed a bill that automatically seals most criminal records, and Democrat Mayor Kathy Hochul is expected to sign it into law.
The “Clean Slate Act ” seals the records of criminals convicted of a misdemeanor three years after they are released from prison. It also seals the records of felons eight years after they are released from prison.
“Clean Slate offers a genuine second chance to individuals who have fully paid their debt to society, enabling them to restart their lives and become positive contributors to their communities,” said Democrat Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. “By passing Clean Slate, we affirm our belief in redemption and improve our society by providing formerly incarcerated individuals a better opportunity to enter the workforce and establish stable lives.”
While this is a laudable goal, it places the citizens of the state in a vulnerable position. What happens if a convicted bank robber or embezzler gets a job in finance? What if a convicted sex offender gets a job that brings them into contact with potential victims? Ordinarily, employers could have discovered this prior to a problem arising, but the state is now going to hide essential information. They will have become accessories to crimes that arise because they hid information.
Now, the bill allows some exceptions, such as Class A felonies that could warrant life in prison sentences, like terrorism, murder, kidnapping and some sex crimes. How long do you think those exceptions will last before liberal legislators start pushing to include the exceptions into the bill? Liberals have shown they don’t know the difference between right and wrong, or they do and have switched the definitions of the words.
“This law is completely irresponsible,” said state Republican Rep. Mike Tannousis. “When are we finally going to hold criminals accountable for their actions? I have been here for three years, and have yet to see the day. Let’s hope it comes soon before the rest of the New Yorkers that still live in this state flee.”
This is also an effort by liberals to cater to their voters, especially since major crimes increased 22 percent in New York City last year. By encouraging criminals to stay in the city and state, they are likely to vote for Democrats and keep them in power
