The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal from Donald Trump on the Colorado Supreme Court decision to remove him from the primary ballot for 2024. The Court will hear arguments on February 8, 2024. (Maine’s Secretary of State removed Trump from the primary ballot there unilaterally; other states have tried to do the same.)
This is not the only way in which Colorado is a microcosm of what’s going on in the entire nation stemming from Democrat governance—which has been so bad that Democrats should be removed from office across the board.
Here, I would like to address another serious issue: How Democrats’ sanctuary city and open-border policies are putting Coloradoans and other Americans at risk every day.
On January 8, 2024, The Daily Caller published a story on a tragic event that reveals what threatens American citizens daily. The story seems to have exclusive information that an earlier report by the local CBS affiliate did not share; that is, that a drunken driver who was in this country illegally had been deported four times before and was sentenced to probation, community service, and work release just four days before he crashed into a local mother and her son near Broomfield High School on December 12, 2023, killing them both.
The illegal immigrant’s name is given either as Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas or Jose Guadalupe Menjuar-Alas. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told The Daily Caller that this man has four convictions of alcohol-related driving in Boulder County between 2007 and 2019, and he was deported from the U.S. in June 2009, June 2012, November 2014, and January 2015. ICE Denver did lodge a detainer request with Broomfield County.
The deceased mother and son are Melissa Powell, 46, and 16-year-old Riordan. They are survived by two other sons and brothers. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for them.
John Fabbricatore, who is retired from the ICE Denver Field Office (where he served as director) and is on the board of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE) said this, via The Daily Caller:
The failures of Colorado’s sanctuary policies allowed a convicted criminal to stay in our local communities on probation, intentionally avoiding notifying ICE. If sanctuary policies were abolished, these unnecessary deaths could have been prevented. We must end sanctuary policy and secure the border now!

Sanctuary city policies are in effect in Democrat-run cities across the USA. The Heritage Foundation published an online article in June 2023 that reports on other tragedies that have occurred across the nation:
Several chilling examples underscore the urgency of the situation. Alexis Saborit, an illegal alien from Cuba with a history of violence, beheaded his girlfriend with a machete in July 2021.
In April of this year [2023], Francisco Oropeza, deported four times in the last 14 years, was accused of gunning down five Honduran immigrants in Cleveland, Texas—including an innocent 8-year-old.
In February, Bryan Marquez, who had deportation orders but was still in the United States, brutally murdered his roommate by beating him. He was charged with first-degree murder.
In January, Jose Hernandez faced five counts of indecency with a minor after allegedly sexually assaulting a young child multiple times.
And in March of last year, Jean Macean, an illegal alien who posed as an unaccompanied minor, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after allegedly murdering a Daytona Beach couple. Macean had previous arrests related to drug charges, which were dropped due to the soft-on-crime predilections of George Soros-backed Florida State Attorney Aramis Ayala.
On top of the problem of sanctuary city policies of the Democrats, there is the crisis they have created on our southern border with their policy to open the border and to catch and release illegal invaders, to the tune of some eight million since Joe Biden took office. The danger to Americans has been increased exponentially as fentanyl is trafficked into our country, and dangerous individuals make it into our interior undetected. (Trafficking of women and children has been enabled in the USA, as well, a true travesty.)
According to the Heritage Foundation:
To protect American communities, urgent and decisive action is imperative. Robust measures must be implemented, including border strengthening, increased border enforcement, thorough vetting processes for all border crossers, detainment instead of release for apprehended illegal aliens, and swift deportation of those without credible asylum claims.
Voters must also get involved and vote for upcoming elections at the federal level and at the local level in their states and communities. Vote all Democrats out to send a message: We have had enough of Democrats’ lawlessness and of illegal immigrants harming or killing American citizens.

NYC blames illegal immigrants for its crime problem By Michael A. Letts
I t’s interesting how much Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams sounds like a Republican when he talks about the effects of illegal immigration on his city.
Unfortunately, he still sounds like a leftist when talking about how to deal with the problem.
Recently, he did it in such a way that if he had been a white Republican, he would have been publicly crucified.
During a news conference where he was asked about rising crime in the Big Apple, he blamed the illegal immigrants who are coming into the city and are unable to work here legally.
“When I talk about the devastation impact that the migrant and asylum seekers, people only think about the volume of people that are coming in. There are byproducts to this, cuts to services, like we had to postpone a police class, looking at some of the budgetary cuts, having a body of people, many young, who can’t work,” Adams said .
This is all correct, although it ignores why so many illegals are coming to the city. It is a lack of border enforcement by the politicians Adams and his administration support. He is part of the reason there is a problem.
He then said, “I mean you don’t even need an imagination to figure out that if you have someone four, five months, and say ‘you cannot work, you cannot feed your family, you cannot provide for yourself,’ what happens? You know, lack of opportunities, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, as they say.”
This is where he takes it a step too far, at least if he had been a Republican. He blames illegals for rising crime.
The media excoriated President Trump for saying something like this when he was only blaming the worst of the illegals as being criminals, rapists, and drug traffickers. However, when Adams uses a broad brush to paint all illegals as contributing to the rising crime, little is said.
The Washington Post went so far as to run an article in 2018 saying that illegals are less likely to commit violent crime than the population as a whole. Where’s a similar article now from the New York Times ?
The illegals are definitely a problem in the big cities because they can’t work legally. Anne Williams-Isom, the city’s deputy mayor for health and human services, said only 2,200 out of the more than 100,000 illegals who have arrived in the city have been approved for work permits.
It is a statistic touted as a reason we should feel sorry these illegals, but the truth is, they are facing just the barest consequences for their actions. They shouldn’t be in this country, to start with. They broke the law to be here. They should not benefit when their first act in entering this country is to show that they don’t believe the law applies to them.
Also, in doing so, the illegals have made themselves the scapegoats for Democrat-controlled big cities. Because they do add to the problems already existing in the cities before their arrival, they have become an easy target to blame for all the city’s problems.
Even if all the illegal immigrants were deported from the U.S. (and they should be), the problems in the big cities would remain because the politicians who run them are can’t govern. They can only blame.

Cruz’s comments come amid a federal judge blocking Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from implementing a halt on deportations, a blow to the administration’s efforts to dismantle interior immigration enforcement.
Hours after taking office on January 20, Biden’s administration issued a memo that sought to halt most deportations of illegal aliens for at least 100 days. As a result, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit requesting a preliminary injunction on the “unlawful” deportation halt.
On Wednesday, United States District Judge Drew B. Tipton granted the preliminary injunction, which prevents the Biden administration from implementing the deportation halt until the U.S. Southern District of Texas District Court, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, or the U.S. Supreme Court resolves the case.
Dale Wilcox with the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) said Tipton’s blockage of the deportation halt “should hold up on appeal” and called Biden’s memo a “bizarre and sinister attempt to shutter our entire immigration law enforcement system.

The Washington Post reported February 7 how Biden’s deputies are changing deportation priorities for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency:
While ICE’s new operational plans are not yet final, interim instructions sent to senior officials point to a major shift in enforcement. Agents will no longer seek to deport immigrants for crimes such as driving under the influence and assault, and will focus instead on national security threats, recent border crossers and people completing prison and jail terms for aggravated felony convictions.
“Generally, these convictions would not include drug based crimes (less serious offenses), simple assault, DUI, money laundering, property crimes, fraud, tax crimes, solicitation, or charges without convictions,” acting director Tae Johnson told senior officials in a Thursday email advising them on how to operate while new guidelines are finalized.
“The priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are imposing a national security threat, of course, a public safety threat, and on recent arrivals,” Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in the February 8 White House press briefing:
Nobody is saying that DUIs or assaults are acceptable behavior, and those arrested for such activities should be tried and sentenced as appropriate by local law enforcement. But we’re talking about the prioritization of who is going to be deported from the country.
The priority list for deportations also excludes migrants who take American’ jobs and wages. This policy will largely abandon the task of protecting Americans’ right to a national labor market .
Biden has repeatedly declared he wants to make the nation’s immigration system more “fair” to migrants. Since January 20, he has minimized deportations, stopped construction of the border wall, offered an amnesty to migrants, broken anti-migration deals with three counties, and has lowered legal barriers to migration.
However, he has said little or nothing about how he will protect Americans’ rights, wages, safe streets, and reasonable housing from foreign criminals or job seekers. A February 2 statement said:
President Biden’s strategy is centered on the basic premise that our country is safer , stronger , and more prosperous with a fair, safe and orderly immigration system that welcomes immigrants, keeps families together, and allows people—both newly arrived immigrants and people who have lived here for generations—to more fully contribute to our country.
Amid Biden’s inrush of migrants and shutdown of deportations, more than 20 million Americans are unemployed or are stuck in part-time jobs.
Biden is also rolling back protections for American graduates, who have lost at least one million jobs because Fortune 500 CEOs and their subcontractors have hired more than 1 million foreign graduates for jobs sought by Americans.
In a separate tweet, Cotton lambasted Biden’s team for dropping a rule that would protect American graduate from losing jobs to H-1B graduate visa-workers who are willing to work for low wages in the hope of getting green cards:

A recent Department of Homeland Security intelligence report received by the Border Patrol instructs agents to look for Venezuelan inmates released from entering the U.S., according to a source within CBP. The report, reviewed by Breitbart Texas, indicates the Venezuelan government, under the leadership of Nicolás Maduro Moros, is purposely freeing inmates — including some convicted of murder, rape, and extortion.
The intelligence report warns agents the freed prisoners have been seen within migrant caravans traveling from Tapachula, Mexico toward the U.S.-Mexico border as recently as July. The source, not authorized to speak to the media, told Breitbart Texas the move is reminiscent of a similar action taken by Cuban dictator Fidel Castro during the Mariel boat lift in the 1980s.
The report does not state whether the released prison inmates were traveling as a cohesive group but does state it was commonly shared knowledge among migrants traveling to the United States within a caravan in July that many of the Venezuelan migrants in the group were convicts and included hardened criminals.
The report does not specify that the release of the convicts — understanding they would head to the United States — could be a purposeful geopolitical move specifically intended to impact U.S. national security. Another information gap cited in the report acknowledges the unknown role the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN), Venezuela’s equivalent to the CIA, may have played in the deliberate releases.
The source says the task of identifying Venezuelans who have criminal records in their home country is nearly impossible. Of the thousands of Venezuelan migrants surrendering along the U.S.-Mexico border daily, most, according to the source, are being released into the United States. Without effective diplomatic relations with Venezuela, the source says access to criminal databases in that country simply does not exist.
“Unless we apprehend someone who voluntarily tells us they have committed a violent crime in Venezuela, we can only guess and that doesn’t work well,” the source told Breitbart. “They will more than likely be released.”
The source says it is unknown how many have already been released into the interior of the United States to pursue asylum.
According to CBP, between October 2021 and July 2022, more than 130,000 Venezuelan migrants have been encountered after entering the United States illegally. In all of Fiscal Year 2020, less than 5,000 were apprehended. This represents an increase of nearly 3,000 percent. In one Texas-based Border Patrol Sector, single groups of hundreds of mostly Venezuelan migrants enter the United States daily.
The report does not specify the location or destination of the released convicts. Frustrated by the increased number of migrant crossings along the southwest border, Republican governors from Texas and Florida began transporting migrants, mostly Venezuelans, to Washington D.C., New York City, and Chicago. Last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis chartered flights for 50 mostly Venezuelan migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard . The migrants were quickly shuttled from the wealthy island city by National Guard soldiers to nearby Joint Base Cape Cod.

City Council Resolution Formally Declares Los Angeles a ‘Sanctuary City’

The Los Angeles City Council formally approved a resolution Friday declaring the City of Angels a “sanctuary city” for illegal aliens. The council unanimously passed the resolution in a 12-0 vote, formally declaring Los Angeles “a city of sanctuary” for those residing in the U.S. illegally “who have been under attack in this Trump era,” CBS Los Angeles reported .
“We declare, for all those who have been under attack in this Trump era, that this city, in this day, in this time, will be a city of sanctuary,” City Councilman Gil Cedillo said. “It will be a place where people will know that they will be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, and not by who they choose to love, and not by when they got here. They will be judged by their contributions to our city.”
The council’s non-binding resolution was more of a symbolic gesture, as it does not change the city’s laws.
But the resolution did allow the city to create a commission tasked with investigating civil rights violations and imposing a $125,000 to $250,000 fine on those who commit acts of violence or harassment.
Friday’s resolution made Los Angeles’s sanctuary city status official, but the Los Angeles Police Department has had longstanding sanctuary policies on the books.
Officers have been told not to arrest individuals just because they entered the U.S. illegally and bar federal immigration authorities from access to county jails without a federal warrant.
In 2017, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also promoted the city’s sanctuary policies prohibiting federal immigration officials from enforcing federal laws on illegal immigration at the local level.
When President Trump announced that year that the federal government would withhold federal funding from cities that did not enforce federal laws on illegal immigration, Garcetti defended Los Angeles’s position as a sanctuary city.

Throwing a softball question to the DHS secretary on Monday, a reporter asked Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas how he can get through to the “75% of the American people” who just don’t understand how well he’s handling the illegal immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border.
Citing an unnamed poll, the reporter told Mayorkas that better “messaging” is the key to making the ignorant three-fourths of America understand that the Biden Administration knows what’s best for them regarding the situation at the border:
“Mr. Secretary, you mentioned a bunch of things the administration is trying to do, but a poll shows 75% of the American people aren't getting it.
“What can you do, message-wise, to convince the American people that what’s going with immigratio n, as far as the administration is concerned, is in America's best interest?”
“So, it is opportunities like this that I will use to communicate the facts to the American people,” Mayorkas replied, declaring that “it is very important that the American public understand the facts,” about “all this administration has done.”
The reporter was apparently citing results of a Rasmussen/National Pulse survey of likely voters released Monday showing that Americans are, indeed, extremely concerned about the flood of migrants into the U.S.:
· Nearly three-fourths (72%) believe the current situation at the U.S.-Mexico border is “a crisis,” including majorities of all racial and political categories.
· Two-thirds (65%) describe the current situation with migrants at the border with Mexico as “an invasion” of the U.S., including majorities of every racial and political category.
· 43% believe it’s “very accurate” to say there’s an invasion of migrants taking place,
· 70% of voters consider border security to be “a vital national security interest,” including majorities of all racial and political categories.
· 82% of those who believe there’s a border crisis consider it to be an invasion.
· 87% of those who consider border security a vital national security interest say there’s an invasion taking place at the border.

A four-time deported illegal alien is accused of killing a mother and one of her three sons in a fatal drunk-driving crash, a new report details.
Jose Guadalupe Menjivar-Alas, a 37-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, was arrested and charged in December with killing 46-year-old Melissa Powell, a mother of three sons, as well as her 16-year-old son, Riordan Powell, in Broomfield, Colorado, on December 12.
Jennie Taer at the Daily Caller broke the news that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency confirmed Menjivar-Alas’s illegal alien status and his repeated illegal re-entry into the United States despite being deported four times.
Menjivar-Alas has had four prior convictions in Boulder County, Colorado, for drunk driving from 2007 to 2019, Taer reports. Only days before the crash that killed Melissa Powell and Riordan Powell, Menjivar-Alas had been given a slap on the wrist by a county judge.
ICE officials told Taer that Menjivar-Alas was deported from the U.S. in June 2009, June 2012, November 2014, and January 2015 before ultimately illegally re-entering, likely via the southern border.
Family and friends have set up a GoFundMe for Melissa Powell’s other two sons, Chris and Halen. Melissa Powell and Riordan Powell “were both a light in many of our lives, and it is hard to even understand and grasp the situation,” the fundraiser’s page reads:

According to the Broomfield Police Department, Menjivar-Alas was drunk driving at the time of the crash, going at least 80 mph, weaving in and out of traffic, and crossing double yellow center lines before hitting Melissa Powell and Riordan Powell.
Melissa Powell died at the scene, while Riordan Powell died later at a nearby hospital.
Police allege that Menjivar-Alas’s vehicle reeked of alcohol and that there were beer cans and open beer cases with missing beer cans on the floor. When Menjivar-Alas later took a blood-alcohol test, his level was 0.249, which is three times the legal limit.
Menjivar-Alas has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of drunk driving. His next scheduled court date is January 18.

Sanctuary Fairfax County, VA: Illegal Alien Freed into U.S. as ‘Unaccompanied Minor’ Accused of Child Sexual Abuse ICE

An illegal alien, freed into the United States as an Unaccompanied Alien Child (UAC), has since been charged with child sex crimes in Fairfax County, Virginia — a sanctuary jurisdiction.
The 21-year-old illegal alien from Honduras was first arrested by Border Patrol agents in January 2020 near Clint, Texas, and classified as a UAC. Border Patrol agents issued him a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a federal immigration judge and released him to the Office of Refugee Resettlement in Kingston, New York.
The following month, the Office of Refugee Resettlement released him from their custody and sent him to live with his father in Alexandria, Virginia.
In July 2023, the illegal alien was arrested in Fairfax County and charged with carnal knowledge of a child between the ages of 13 and 14 without force, possession of child sexual abuse material, and producing child sexual abuse material.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents immediately issued a detainer against the illegal alien — requesting local law enforcement to transfer custody of the suspect so he could be put into deportation proceedings.
Due to Fairfax County’s sanctuary policy that shields criminal illegal aliens from federal immigration law, ICE agents said their request was ignored and the illegal alien was released from jail.
“Fairfax County refused to honor the ICE detainer lodged against this Honduran noncitizen,” ICE’s Erik Weiss said in a statement. “When ICE detainers are ignored by local authorities, the public is put at risk.”
Last month, ICE agents located the illegal alien at his residence in Springfield, Virginia. During the arrest, the illegal alien assaulted one of the ICE agents. He remains in ICE custody pending deportation.

NYC blames illegal immigrants for its crime problem By Michael A. Letts
I t’s interesting how much Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams sounds like a Republican when he talks about the effects of illegal immigration on his city.
Unfortunately, he still sounds like a leftist when talking about how to deal with the problem.
Recently, he did it in such a way that if he had been a white Republican, he would have been publicly crucified.
During a news conference where he was asked about rising crime in the Big Apple, he blamed the illegal immigrants who are coming into the city and are unable to work here legally.
“When I talk about the devastation impact that the migrant and asylum seekers, people only think about the volume of people that are coming in. There are byproducts to this, cuts to services, like we had to postpone a police class, looking at some of the budgetary cuts, having a body of people, many young, who can’t work,” Adams said .
This is all correct, although it ignores why so many illegals are coming to the city. It is a lack of border enforcement by the politicians Adams and his administration support. He is part of the reason there is a problem.
He then said, “I mean you don’t even need an imagination to figure out that if you have someone four, five months, and say ‘you cannot work, you cannot feed your family, you cannot provide for yourself,’ what happens? You know, lack of opportunities, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, as they say.”
This is where he takes it a step too far, at least if he had been a Republican. He blames illegals for rising crime.
The media excoriated President Trump for saying something like this when he was only blaming the worst of the illegals as being criminals, rapists, and drug traffickers. However, when Adams uses a broad brush to paint all illegals as contributing to the rising crime, little is said.
The Washington Post went so far as to run an article in 2018 saying that illegals are less likely to commit violent crime than the population as a whole. Where’s a similar article now from the New York Times ?
The illegals are definitely a problem in the big cities because they can’t work legally. Anne Williams-Isom, the city’s deputy mayor for health and human services, said only 2,200 out of the more than 100,000 illegals who have arrived in the city have been approved for work permits.
It is a statistic touted as a reason we should feel sorry these illegals, but the truth is, they are facing just the barest consequences for their actions. They shouldn’t be in this country, to start with. They broke the law to be here. They should not benefit when their first act in entering this country is to show that they don’t believe the law applies to them.
Also, in doing so, the illegals have made themselves the scapegoats for Democrat-controlled big cities. Because they do add to the problems already existing in the cities before their arrival, they have become an easy target to blame for all the city’s problems.
Even if all the illegal immigrants were deported from the U.S. (and they should be), the problems in the big cities would remain because the politicians who run them are can’t govern. They can only blame.

Mexican Government Celebrates Gulf Cartel’s Releases of 31 Kidnapped Migrants 148 Breitbart Texas / Cartel Chronicles

Mexican authorities are trying to take credit for rescuing 31 migrants that the Gul Carte kidnapped last weekend. In reality, the criminal organization dropped them off at a shopping center so authorities could find them. The “rescue” follows days of negative press at the national level in Mexico, causing tension and pressure within the administration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
On Wednesday afternoon, the president’s spokesman, Jesus Ramirez Cuevas, took to social media to announce the “rescue” of 31 migrants who had been kidnapped on December 30.
Soon after, the Tamaulipas government issued a statement claiming that the rescue was coordinated between state, federal, and military forces. No arrests have been made in the case.
What the limited information released by authorities does not reveal is that Gulf Cartel gunmen apparently loaded the migrants onto a “ pesera, ” or local transit bus, and left them near the parking lot of a popular shopping center in Rio Bravo.
The efforts to hide information by the Tamaulipas government led to much confusion since the incident first began on December 30. As Breitbart Texas reported , on that day, a commercial bus from the Senda company was traveling from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, to the border city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Inside the bus, 36 passengers were forced off at gunpoint by Gulf Cartel gunmen. Initial information revealed that 31 passengers remained missing and five had been located.
The kidnapping took place near the border city of Nuevo Progreso, Tamaulipas. Soon after the initial kidnapping, authorities rescued five passengers who were being moved in a vehicle by two gunmen who ran away. As Breitbart Texas reported , those five passengers were riding in the bus but were not counted as part of the 31 missing passengers as initially reported but were part of the other group counted as found or rescued.
The mass kidnapping comes as Tamaulipas residents continue to live in fear while rival factions of the Gulf Cartel carry out a fierce turf war with complete impunity.

A group of Gulf Cartel gunmen in Tamaulipas dropped several ice chests with human body parts in a popular shopping center parking lot just a short distance south of the border with Texas. The gory discovery took place in the same parking lot where Gulf Cartel gunmen released a group of 32 migrants that they kidnapped days prior.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Rio Bravo, Tamaulipas, just south of Donna, Texas. Tamaulipas state officials tried to cover up the issue and waited as long as they could until they had to confirm the discovery. Under the leadership of Tamaulipas Governor Americo Villarreal, state officials, particularly his spokesman Jorge Cuellar Montoya, have worked to hide cases of cartel violence and minimize violent crimes as a way to claim the region is safe.
At the scene, authorities found an ice chest with a torso and several other human remains inside. Next to the ice chest, the gunmen left a posterboard with various cartel threats. Authorities refused to disclose the contents of the messages. While the victims have not been identified, authorities believe that the body parts of more than one victim could be found. Officias believe discoveries of similar crime scenes could be possible.
The discovery took place in the parking lot of a popular shopping center in Rio Bravo, where on January 3, a group of gunmen released 32 migrants that they kidnapped on December 30. As Breitbart Texas reported , the Gulf Cartel was able to deploy several vehicles to stop a passenger bus traveling from Reynosa to Matamoros and kidnap 32 migrants. Federal and military forces did nothing to stop the kidnapping, nor were they able to locate the victims in the days after.
It remains unclear if the body parts left in the ice chest are tied to the migrant kidnapping or if they are tied to some sort of infighting within the Gulf Cartel.

Contrary to political rhetoric, Mexican cartel-style killings and gun battles appear to have already reached the U.S. and are spreading — particularly in California. The region experienced an explosive growth of cartel marijuana grow operations that are taking advantage of legalization and lax laws.
This week, federal authorities clashed with one of two gunmen who are accused of killing a family of six — including a 16-year-old female and her baby. The murders took place last month in Tulare County, California, in what some authorities have dubbed a cartel killing.
On early Friday morning, federal agents arrested Noah David Beard, 25, and Angel “Nanu” Uriarte, 35, the Los Angeles Times reported . The article identified both men as Sureno Gang members. Uriarte clashed with federal agents in a gun battle. He sustained multipole injuries and had to undergo surgery. He is expected to survive. Authorities arrested Beard without a shootout.
The two men are facing six murder charges and several enhancements filed by the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office over the January 16 mass killing. Authorities also carried out several raids at homes and prison cells targeting the Nuestra Familia gang. Both the Nuestra Familia and the Surenos have a history of working with Mexican drug cartels.
According to the Los Angeles Times, authorities found the 16-year-old mother in a ditch cradling her baby in her arms. Both victims were shot in the head. Initially, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux called the murder the work of a cartel, however, he later tried to walk back the claim, the Times reported .
Tulare County and other counties in Northern California have seen a dramatic rise in cartel presence due to the legal marijuana trade and lax laws around it. Additionally, various cartel figures who have become famous in Mexico are actually U.S. citizens. Among these is Jose Maria “Z-43” Guizar Valencia a top leader with the Los Zetas cartel who was born in Tulare California and is currently awaiting sentencing on various federal drug trafficking charges in Texas.
According to a report from USA Today, since California legalized marijuana for recreational use, Mexican cartels have moved their grow operations to the U.S. where they can hide among legal farms. The publication reported that in 2021, there were 10,000 illegal grow operations in Mendocino County alone. The issue has already led to various high-profile cases similar to the one in Tulare County last month.
One of the main draws for cartels is that operating an illegal grow is only a misdemeanor offense in California and that business is cash only. Additionally, the region does not have enough law enforcement officers to patrol those grow sites and enforce laws against illegal growing operations, USA Today reported .

California Detectives Seize 90 Pounds of Fentanyl: Enough to Kill Millions of Americans

The Alameda County Narcotics Task Force conducted the biggest drug bust in the county’s history, seizing 90 pounds of fentanyl Friday that authorities said have a street value of $4.2 million, according to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Ray Kelly, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said detectives found a fentanyl manufacturing lab last week after serving two search warrants in Oakland and Hayward in the California Bay Area.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the operation, which involved enough fentanyl to kill millions of Americans:
Detectives at the manufacturing lab found 92.58 pounds of fentanyl and two illegal firearms. One suspect involved in the manufacturing of fentanyl was taken into custody, and authorities are searching for a second suspect “on the run,” Kelly said. Neither suspects’ identities nor the exact location of the fentanyl lab were disclosed.
Bay Area public health officials say fentanyl, a synthetic opioid far more potent than heroin, has been the driver of the region’s opioid epidemic in recent years. About seven in 10 drug-related deaths in San Francisco involve fentanyl, according to figures from the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the illicit drug can be lethal even in small amounts.
The sheriff’s office noted on their Facebook account that “per the dea.gov one kilogram of fentanyl can kill 500,000 people.”
“This shows you just how prolific our fentanyl problem is,” Kelly said in the article. “Every day, people in the Bay Area continue to overdose, young people suffering from addiction, and they’re dying at unacceptable rates. So this is just one dent that we feel we took.”

Tom Cotton: Joe Biden Will Keep Foreign Drug Dealers in U.S.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed President Joe Biden’s administration amid evidence that his deputies want to minimize the deportation of illegal migrants who are caught dealing deadly drugs.
“It’s the Biden administration policy to allow illegal aliens to stay in America even after they: -Deal fentanyl and heroin -Commit fraud -Commit assault -Drive drunk -Launder money,” Cotton tweeted February 8.
“More than 80,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year. And the Biden administration just announced that deporting illegal alien cartel members who deal with fentanyl and heroin is no longer a priority for his administration,” he added .
For more than 20 years, many Americans have been killed by drunk-driving illegals , including many killed after federal and state officials decide not to deport illegals.

The Washington Post reported February 7 how Biden’s deputies are changing deportation priorities for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency:
While ICE’s new operational plans are not yet final, interim instructions sent to senior officials point to a major shift in enforcement. Agents will no longer seek to deport immigrants for crimes such as driving under the influence and assault, and will focus instead on national security threats, recent border crossers and people completing prison and jail terms for aggravated felony convictions.
“Generally, these convictions would not include drug based crimes (less serious offenses), simple assault, DUI, money laundering, property crimes, fraud, tax crimes, solicitation, or charges without convictions,” acting director Tae Johnson told senior officials in a Thursday email advising them on how to operate while new guidelines are finalized.
“The priority for the enforcement of immigration laws will be on those who are imposing a national security threat, of course, a public safety threat, and on recent arrivals,” Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in the February 8 White House press briefing:
Nobody is saying that DUIs or assaults are acceptable behavior, and those arrested for such activities should be tried and sentenced as appropriate by local law enforcement. But we’re talking about the prioritization of who is going to be deported from the country.
The priority list for deportations also excludes migrants who take American’ jobs and wages. This policy will largely abandon the task of protecting Americans’ right to a national labor market .
Biden has repeatedly declared he wants to make the nation’s immigration system more “fair” to migrants. Since January 20, he has minimized deportations, stopped construction of the border wall, offered an amnesty to migrants, broken anti-migration deals with three counties, and has lowered legal barriers to migration.
However, he has said little or nothing about how he will protect Americans’ rights, wages, safe streets, and reasonable housing from foreign criminals or job seekers. A February 2 statement said:
President Biden’s strategy is centered on the basic premise that our country is safer , stronger , and more prosperous with a fair, safe and orderly immigration system that welcomes immigrants, keeps families together, and allows people—both newly arrived immigrants and people who have lived here for generations—to more fully contribute to our country.
Amid Biden’s inrush of migrants and shutdown of deportations, more than 20 million Americans are unemployed or are stuck in part-time jobs.
Biden is also rolling back protections for American graduates, who have lost at least one million jobs because Fortune 500 CEOs and their subcontractors have hired more than 1 million foreign graduates for jobs sought by Americans.
In a separate tweet, Cotton lambasted Biden’s team for dropping a rule that would protect American graduate from losing jobs to H-1B graduate visa-workers who are willing to work for low wages in the hope of getting green cards:
