In many speeches, Mayorkas says he is building a mass migration system to deliver workers to wealthy employers and investors and “equity” to poor foreigners. The nation’s border laws are subordinate to elites’ opinion about “the values of our country,” Mayorkas claims.
ABC legal analyst Sunny Hostin told her co-hosts Friday on “The View” that GOP presidential hopeful former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) used “tokenism to the extreme” when she said she has black friends at her CNN town hall Thursday night.
On CNN, Haley said, “I should have said slavery right off the bat. But if you grow up in South Carolina, literally in second and third grade, you learn about slavery. You grow up and you have, I had black friends growing up. it is a very talked about thing.”
Co-host Ana Navarro said, “Some of my best friends are black.”
Co-host Joy Behar said, “That never works.”
Co-host Sara Haines said, “And that applies to every minority group. People do it with the LGBTQ community, fill in the blank, with Jewish people, everyone.”
Hostin said, “Can I do a public service announcement as the black person on the panel? Non-black people, when you are trying to convince someone that you are not racist, do not say, I have black friend ever.”
She added, “It’s tokenism to the extreme, and the fact that you are trying to convince me that you have black friends just tells me you don’t. It’s insulting. She also said during this that, although she is the daughter of Indian immigrants, she doesn’t really feel any kind of race. I was troubled by that because the Indian culture is a beautiful culture. It’s an inclusive culture. It’s a strong culture. It’s an old culture.”
A Chicago-area man fatally shot his girlfriend and her cousin and wounded his infant son before fleeing the scene and turning the gun on himself, police and members of the victims’ family said.
The tragedy occurred Tuesday night in Cicero, Illinois, about 15 minutes from downtown Chicago.
Local police responded to reports of gunshots at around 7:45 p.m., finding two women badly injured in a home on the 1800 block of South 48 Court, ABC7 reported.
Those two victims, later identified as Jessica Hughes, 29, and Myeshia Newby, 19, died after being rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital.
The family of the two women, who were cousins, said that Newby’s boyfriend shot her before shooting Hughes as she was attempting to escape with Newby’s infant son, Arturo, whom Newby shared with the alleged shooter.
The gunfire grazed the baby, but he is stable and recovering at Comer Children’s Hospital after undergoing surgery.
According to relatives of the victims, the couple was apparently arguing over a “Link” card — otherwise known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“It went from one thing to the next. There was never any loud hollering or anything,” Hughes’ father, Mitchell Benton, told ABC7.
The heartbroken dad recounted the moment he heard Newby arguing with her boyfriend of two years in the basement of the home.
“He come back down and said, ‘Here, look at my wallet.’ She said, ‘You done went up there and took it out.’ So, she said, ‘Well, ain’t no point in me looking in it then.’ And the next thing I know, I’m hearing shot,” he explained.
Benton said that Hughes was trying to protect Arturo when she was shot.
“My daughter dropped at my feet. She had the baby in her hand. She had been shot in the face and in the chest,” he said, adding that he fought the alleged shooter, but he managed to get away.
With help from the grieving family, Cicero police were able to locate 21-year-old Rafael Vega, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot in a park near 16th Street and Central Avenue early Wednesday morning.
Officials named Vega as the suspected shooter at a press conference later that evening.
“Preliminarily, the subject in the park does appear to be the subject we were seeking,” said Cicero Police Superintendent Thomas Boyle.
“It’s devastating for the whole family,” Hughes’ mother, Michelle Musgray, said. “They were loving, both of them, loving moms, good souls, good people, loved their kids. Their kids were their world.”
Newby would have turned 20 on Thursday.
“There’s no celebration. You can’t celebrate life. There is no life,” Benton said.

Man stabbed on Bronx subway platform for wishing strangers happy new year
A man was pummeled and stabbed on a Bronx subway platform by a group of strangers who took offense when he wished them a happy new year, police said Thursday.
The 29-year-old victim was waiting for a Manhattan-bound D train at the 182-183rd St. station in Fordham when he said “Happy new year” to the four fellow straphangers about 8:45 p.m. Monday, cops said.
The men began arguing with the victim, then punched him in the face and body, according to cops.
As the New Year’s day beatdown escalated, one of the men pulled a knife and stabbed the well-wisher multiple times, leaving him bleeding on the platform.
Medics rushed the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in serious but stable condition.
His four attackers ran out of the station and have not been caught.
Cops on Thursday released surveillance images of the four suspects in the hopes someone recognizes them.
All of the brawlers are believed to be about 5-foot-8 with slim builds. One sported braids while another had braids and glasses, cops said.
A third attacker had long hair and was wearing red-and-black checkerboard-style pants while a fourth wore a black jacket and a black ski mask.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
Teen robbed at knifepoint inside her Bronx home by man she met on Grindr
A teen was robbed at knifepoint inside her Bronx home by a man she met on the dating hook up app Grindr, police said Wednesday.
The 19-year-old victim met her possible match on the popular app aimed at gay men and made a plan to meet up at her apartment near E. 187th St. and Beaumont Ave. in Belmont on Dec. 29, cops said.
But after the man showed up about 4 a.m. he put a knife to her throat, snatched her cellphone and fled.
The woman was left rattled but unharmed. No arrests have been made.
Cops on Wednesday released images of the suspect in the hopes that someone recognizes him.
This is not the first time a meet up arranged on Grindr ended in violence.
Parents Yolanda Hunter and Herman Coleman are on the run. Just before Christmas Day, Mississippi police responded to a call from a man who found the body of an infant, unresponsive, on his doorstep. Now the cops have named the boy’s mother, Hunter, and boyfriend, Coleman, as suspects in his death.
Prodigy Hunter, 1 years old, was found with a massive amount of trauma and bruises to the body on Dec. 21, said Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade in a press conference. After being transferred to the hospital, he died upon succumbing to his injuries.
The Jackson Police Department issued warrants for Hunter and Coleman. They are facing capital murder and could be sentenced to death upon a conviction. Authorities said Coleman has been on the run since the day Prodigy died and Hunter has been MIA since bailing out.
Prodigy is one of Hunter’s five children, all of whom are in custody of the Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services. The chief said the department is investigating whether the others showed signs of being abused.
The nation’s capital recorded more homicides in 2023 than any year since 1997, marking the fifth-highest murder rate among the nation’s biggest cities, according to a report.
The Washington Post reported Monday that 274 people were confirmed victims in 2023, with 19 of them children and young teenagers.
The rate of homicides was 40 per 100,000 residents. In 1997, 302 people were killed.

D.C. came in only behind New Orleans, Cleveland, Baltimore, and Memphis, but ahead of New York and Chicago, according to the report.
Every ward in D.C. experienced homicides with most enduring “significant overall increases in violent crime,” according to the report.
There was an arrest by late November in only 75 cases.
In those cases, nearly half was due to an “argument.” At least 12 cases were domestic disputes, eight were robberies and five were neighborhood conflicts.

More than 90 percent of the killings through December 27 were by gunfire, the report said. The number of juveniles killed by gunfire doubled in 2023 from the year before — 16 from eight. More juveniles also pulled triggers in 2023 than in the past, the report said.
In the first nine months of 2023, police made 458 arrests of juveniles for robbery, homicide, or assault with a dangerous weapon — a 10 percent increase from the same period the year before.
“It’s been a tough year,” Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser told the Post in an interview.
The Arizona man accused of murdering a young woman on a Phoenix hiking trail in April, shortly after his release from prison, will get the death penalty if prosecutors get their way, ABC15 revealed Friday.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is seeking to put 22-year-old Zion Teasley to death for allegedly ambushing and fatally stabbing 29-year-old Lauren Heike, the victim’s family told ABC15.
Grieving parents Jeff and Lana Heike wrote in a statement that they “support” the prosecutors’ decision to get justice for their daughter, and expressed how their “hearts continue to break over her life being cut short by the violent actions of another.”
The woman’s body was found April 29 outside a neighborhood near Scottsdale Road and Mayo Boulevard, just south of Loop 101, a semi-beltway looping around the Phoenix Metropolitan Area in central Arizona, AZ Family.com reported.
Lauren Heike’s body was discovered April 29 on a trail near a neighborhood in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Breitbart News previously reported.
Court documents obtained by the New York Post say Heike was chased down by Teasley before he allegedly stabbed her 15 times in the back and the chest.
The suspect was seen fleeing the scene in footage shared by Phoenix Police in an effort to find him.
Teasley was reportedly located and arrested at his nearby apartment complex several days later after his DNA and cell phone location data linked him to the murder.
Upon examining her body, Heike’s injuries appeared to be consistent with a pocketknife that Teasley possessed.
The suspect had been let out of prison just five months prior to the attack after being convicted of armed robbery and disorderly conduct, ABC15 reported.
Local authorities also said Teasley had recently been fired from his job for getting “aggressive toward female employees” and was “suspected of stealing merchandise.”
The 22-year-old had also reportedly told homicide investigators that he wanted to look like Heike, suggesting he could have been stalking her before the ambush.
However, he pleaded not guilty to his first-degree murder charge in May.
“We know that our journey through the criminal justice system is just beginning, but we will be there every step of the way to ensure that Lauren receives justice,” Heike’s heartbroken parents wrote.
They added that they “want Lauren to be remembered for the beautiful and kind person that she was. We have hope and find joy in the knowledge that we will someday be reunited with Lauren.”
Teasley’s next court date was not immediately announced.

California's Cities in Crisis Due to Crime: State Nightmare
A man accused of stabbing two teenagers at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal on Christmas Day has been released back onto the streets.
The alleged assailant, Steven Hutcherson, 36, of the Bronx, allegedly attacked two teenage girls at the Tartinery in the Grand Central Dining Concourse on Monday after arguing with restaurant staff over sitting in the establishment’s area. According to reports, he remarked that the two teen girls, 14 and 16, were allowed to sit there, ultimately pulling out a knife and stabbing them — one in the thigh and the other in the back, the latter of whom was treated for a collapsed lung at Bellevue Hospital.
The man allegedly shouted racist remarks as well. Law enforcement sources told the New York Post at the time that the man yelled, “I want all the white people dead,” and “I want to sit next to the crackers.”
This is far from the man’s first infraction. According to the Post, he has been arrested “17 times over the last two decades — and the subject of more than a half dozen domestic violence complaints by a Manhattan woman he has allegedly stalked for over a year, according to sources.”
Further, he was recently put back on the streets by Judge Matthew Grieco, whom Mayor Eric Adams (D) appointed, with a conditional discharge after threatening a stranger. According to reports, he shouted at the victim, “Why are you working for white people? I’m going to kill this man.”
He then allegedly threatened to shoot the victim, adding, “I don’t care what kind of green card the government gave you. Open your mouth and say something. I will shoot you right now.”
That hearing for that incident was on December 12, mere weeks before he allegedly stabbed the two teenagers.
“If the judge had only held this individual accountable, two innocent tourists, children, may have had a Merry Christmas instead of an ‘attempted murderous’ Christmas,” a law enforcement source told the Post, which detailed more of Hutcherson’s history of violence and mental health episodes:
He’s also had a string of encounters with cops for mental health disturbances, most recently on Dec. 5, when he was found acting unruly outside a Bronx apartment building and brought to St. Barnabas Hospital for psychiatric evaluation by police, the sources said.
Prior to that incident, officers found him standing on the fire escape of that same building on Mt. Hope Place screaming while refusing to come down on Nov. 27, according to the sources. Then too, he was brought to St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
He had his share of run-ins with law enforcement in 2023, too — once for resisting arrest after walking into a Bronx precinct stationhouse “acting belligerent and refused to leave, prompting cops to arrest him and find a dagger and switchblade on him,” per the Post. He later received a 15-day sentence after smashing a display case at the Bergdorf Goodman department store.
This only adds to the continued critiques of woke judges and prosecutors going soft on crime, particularly in big, blue cities such as New York City. Meanwhile, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg busies himself by targeting former President Donald Trump while crime runs rampant — a point emphasized by House Republicans:
