Actor Scott Baio Leaving California After 45 Years: ‘It’s Not a Safe Place Anymore’

Scott Baio has had enough of California. The actor is so sick of its left-wing politics, and the crime, the homelessness, the lawlessness, and the grim future it holds, after 45 years he is taking his family with him and leaving.

The 62-year-old and long time resident of Los Angeles announced his intentions Wednesday on social media.

He tweeted:  “After 45 years, I’m making my way to finally ‘exit stage right’ from California.”

His declaration included a quote from a report on KTLA5 that read, “The most recent survey conducted by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found approximately 69,000 people experiencing homelessness in L.A. County and 41,000 in the city in 2022.”

He further tweeted that homelessness “brings down property value. Also no consequences for crime that is rampant, making things higher in price and it’s just not a safe place anymore. [ImFree].”

Homelessness and crime rates have motivated other celebrities to leave the Golden State over the past few years.

Stars like Katy Perry, Matthew McConaughey, and podcaster Joe Rogan previously said L.A. was no longer the place they wanted to bring up a family.

This is not the first time Baio, son of Italian migrants who was born and raised in New York City,  has called attention to the state of the nation in general and California in particular.

He was seen at the #WalkAway ‘Rescue America’ rally in 2020 calling for change.

On that occasion he joined hundreds of Americans who marched from West Hollywood to Beverly Hills to show their love for the country, as Breitbart News reported.

The Walk Away Campaign organized the event to “show the radical left that they do not own America’s streets and that our country is filled with kind, loving, big-hearted Americans of every race, religion, background, and creed,” its website read.

Baio was happy to take to social media to show his support and his political backing for Donald Trump.

The Happy Days star also addressed the crowd and said he loved America and wanted to save it because “I love that we’re a God-fearing nation. I love that we’re a law-abiding nation. I love our traditional values.”

No issue is more pressing in California than education. In late October, the state released scores for the first post-Covid-shutdown state standardized test, conducted earlier last year. The results were horrendous. Less than half of all students who took the Smarter Balanced test—47.1 percent—met the state standard in English language arts, down 4 percentage points from 2018–19. One-third of students met the standard in math, down 6.5 percentage points. Only 16 percent of black students and 9.7 percent of English learners met standards in math.

Not only did test scores plummet; the state’s chronic absenteeism rate has also skyrocketed. The no-show rate leapt from 14.3 percent in 2020–21 to 30 percent in 2021–22. (California defines chronic absenteeism as students missing 10 percent of the days they were enrolled for any reason.) But amazingly, during the 2021–22 school year, data showed that the state’s four-year high school graduation rate climbed to 87 percent, up from 83.6 percent in 2020–21.

How is this possible?

EdSource’s John Fensterwald explains: “The high school graduation rate in 2021–22 reached a record high statewide and rose significantly for most student groups, although the progress warrants an asterisk. Recognizing the hardships many students experienced during Covid and the challenges of teachers in grading fairly during remote learning, the Legislature passed Assembly Bill 104. It allowed parents to request that F’s and D’s for high school students be changed to pass or no-pass. It also gave last year’s juniors and seniors the option to graduate with the state’s minimum requirements, made up of 13 courses totaling about 130 credits.”

The situation in Los Angeles is even more egregious. About 46 percent of the city’s students were chronically absent last year— more than double compared with the previous year, according to district numbers. Nevertheless, their grades are rising.

Standardized test scores tell a different story, however. The Los Angeles Times examined district-wide spring 2022 grades and the state’s 2022 standardized test scores. The paper summarized some of its findings:

In math, 73% of 11th-graders earned A’s, B’s, and C’s. Tests scores showed only 19% met grade-level standards.

For eighth-graders, 79% earned A’s, B’s and C’s in math. Test scores showed 23% met grade-level standards.

In English, 85% of sixth-graders earned A’s, B’s and C’s, while 40% met grade-level standards.

For seventh-graders, 82% earned A’s, B’s and C’s in English. Test scores showed 43% met standards.

According to World Population Review, California now leads the country in illiteracy. In fact, 23.1 percent of Californians over age 15 cannot read this sentence. While some of this poor showing is due to a huge influx of migrants from California’s porous southern border, much of the blame falls on the state’s failing public schools.

California seems in no rush to correct these educational shortcomings. Unlike other states—Mississippi, North Carolina, Florida, Connecticut, Colorado, and Virginia—the Golden State has not adopted any comprehensive literacy plan to ensure that children can read by third grade, nor has it indicated that it intends to create such a plan.

Voters’ attitudes toward the state’s government-run schools have tumbled accordingly. A poll from UC–Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies in early 2022 reveals that just 35 percent of the state’s voters give public schools in their local district a grade of A or B, down from 55 percent in 2011. At the other end of the spectrum, 25 percent now grade their local public schools a D or an F, up from 10 percent in 2011. The poll included responses from 800 California voters, half of whom identify as Democrats, 26 percent as Republican, and 24 percent as independent.

Given this general dissatisfaction, not to mention policymakers’ suffocating response to Covid, it’s no surprise that enrollment in California schools is plummeting.

Already in 2018–19, about 23,000 students had left the system, but between the 2019–20 and 2020–21 school years, public school enrollment in California dropped by more than seven times that figure, with 175,761 students leaving. And it is likely to get worse. According to the State Department of Finance, in the 2021–22 school year, California experienced its fifth consecutive drop in total public K–12 enrollment, losing 110,000 students. If current trends hold for the next decade, the state will see a further decline of 524,000 by 2030–31.

In Los Angeles, the exodus is massive. Twenty years ago, the Los Angeles Unified School District was home to 737,000 students, but officials now forecast that enrollment will dip below 400,000 by the fall of 2023. Nevertheless, Cecily Myart-Cruz, the radical leader of the United Teachers of Los Angeles, remains upbeat. In 2021, when asked how her union’s insistence on keeping L.A. schools locked down for more than a year during Covid affected the city’s K–12 students, she insisted: “There is no such thing as learning loss. Our kids didn’t lose anything. It’s OK that our babies may not have learned all their times tables. They learned resilience. They learned survival. They learned critical-thinking skills. They know the difference between a riot and a protest. They know the words ‘insurrection’ and ‘coup.’”

Just to the south, San Diego is also losing students from its public schools at a faster clip than district leaders expected. In Oakland, the school board has voted to close seven schools over the next two years because of sagging enrollment.

According to a 2022 PACE/USC Rossier Poll, more than one in four California parents switched their child’s school during the pandemic. Some are now being schooled in other states because their parents moved away, while others are being homeschooled or have been enrolled in private schools. And still other parents are sending their children to charter schools, which saw 15,283 new enrollees in the 2020–21 school year—a 2.3 percent increase from the previous year—bringing the total to 690,657. By contrast, the 175,761 students who exited the state’s public schools reflect a 3.2 percent drop.

A major reason for these shifting numbers is that charters did a much better job during the pandemic. A study conducted by Stanford University’s Center for Research on Education Outcomes examined how charter schools responded to Covid, compared with traditional public schools in California, New York, and Washington for the period from March to June 2020, and then for the 2020–21 school year. Researchers found that charters were able to pivot from in-school teaching to remote instruction remarkably quickly. In spring 2020, charter schools in California took an average of just four days to shift to remote teaching once they closed their doors; bureaucracy-laden traditional public schools never got it quite right.

This should not come as a surprise. Charters typically have outperformed traditional public schools. A 2014 study from Stanford University found that low-income black students in California charter schools gained 36 more days of learning in reading and 43 more days in math a year than their district school counterparts. In 2017, Stanford released the results of a study that revealed that the longer students attend schools in charter networks, the greater their gains. For example, “in math, students attending schools in charter networks gain, on average, about 34 more days of learning in their first year than similar students in traditional district schools. By their third year in that school, they gain 69 additional days of learning—roughly twice the growth.”

What distinguishes charter schools, of course, is that they are independent, flexible, and—perhaps most important—rarely unionized. Unlike in district schools, the teachers’ unions, in most cases, must organize each charter school individually, a time-consuming and costly process.

The teachers’ unions did not take kindly to California’s uptick in charter enrollment and mounted a counteroffensive. Grasping at straws, the competition-phobic California Teachers Association (CTA), which regularly attacks charters, claimed that schools must be “accountable to our communities” and called for a “moratorium on unregulated charters.” In reality, charter schools are more accountable and regulated than district schools, since parents actively choose to enroll their kids there and, if unsatisfied, can pull them out and enroll them elsewhere.

As the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools reports, California’s current statewide cap on charter schools is 2,450, though the cap is raised by 100 schools each year. The CTA and its many beneficiaries of political donations in the state legislature cannot abide competition, however. The latest in a long line of bills that attempt to kneecap charters appeared in February 2021, when AB 1316 was introduced in the state assembly. Weighing in at over 30,000 words, this expansive legislation was designed to prevent any growth in charter school enrollment, defund online-learning programs associated with charter schools, and force the closure of those charters unable to cope with the mountain of new regulations. The bill, according to the California Charter Schools Association, would have prohibited “multiple-track schools that offer additional instructional days than students would otherwise receive, and [would have restricted] instructional day flexibility for all charter schools that would negatively hurt at-risk students who require scheduling flexibility.” This restriction would cripple the types of innovation and adaptability to student needs that differentiate charters from conventional public schools. Fortunately, in June 2021, the bill was ordered to the “inactive file,” and it was officially put to rest in February 2022.

The unions also insisted that charter schools siphon funding from traditional public schools. This is a fallacy, however, as Michael J. Petrilli and David Griffith noted while discussing a new study by the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. In most states, a public school district’s total revenue per pupil actually increased as the percentage of local students enrolled in charter schools rose. In California, the Fordham study found, “a 10 percentage point increase in the percentage of students attending charter schools that were authorized by counties or the State Board of Education (after being rejected by the host district) was associated with a 5 percent increase in host districts’ total revenue per pupil and a 4 percent increase in their instructional spending per pupil.”

The unions’ top priorities are bolstering their bottom line and maintaining political power. But now that the calamity they have made of public education has led to growing numbers of families fleeing government-run schools, they will be weakened, at least somewhat, in both these efforts.

Across the U.S., 32 states, along with Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, operate a total of 65 private school-choice programs—involving vouchers, educational savings accounts (ESAs), tax-credit scholarships, or special-needs scholarship programs. California has none. With the state facing an ongoing exodus of residents, any private school-choice measure could help persuade unhappy parents to remain in the Golden State.

Two similarly worded school-choice ballot measures were planned for 2022, but supporters of one abandoned it early on, and the signature-gathering effort for the other fell far short. These initiatives would have given parents, instead of bureaucrats, control over the state’s educational dollars; the CTA did its best to kill them both. At a speech to the CTA’s State Council in October 2021, union president E. Toby Boyd claimed that vouchers use “public funds to send students to private and religious schools, taking money and vital resources away from public schools. Voters have rejected school vouchers twice before, but there’s no doubt these measures will be well-funded and will require our solidarity, strength and good organizing to defeat.” The measures may reemerge in 2024.

On a page from its website, the CTA promises “facts, based on research” about school choice, but its “facts” are bunk. For example, the CTA contends: “Voucher programs have their roots in discrimination and continue to foster it.” But as researcher Greg Forster reports, ten empirical studies have examined private school-choice programs on the matter of segregation; nine found that the programs actually reduced it, and one found no apparent effect. Additionally, a recent EdChoice poll shows that, when given a fair description of school-choice types, most minorities approve of them. In fact, 80 percent of black and Hispanic parents support ESAs.

The CTA opposes school choice because private school teachers are not unionized and would be hard to organize. The union’s opposition has nothing to do with education or concern for children. The union’s arguments are about as factually valid as those of a late-night TV pitchman trying to sell men spray-on hair to cover bald spots. But at least the late-night huckster doesn’t influence educational policy for 6 million children.

While California students’ skills in reading and math have languished, policymakers and legislators have kept themselves busy implementing radical, ideologically driven curricular changes and laws.

In the proposed 2022 draft revision of the California Department of Education’s Mathematics Framework, the chapter “Teaching for Equity and Engagement” includes this language: “Empowering students with mathematics also includes removing the high stakes of errors and sending the message that learning is always unfinished and that it is safe to take mathematical risks. This mind-set creates the conditions for students to develop a sense of ownership over their mathematical thinking and their right to belong to the discipline of mathematics.” It also suggests that math should not be colorblind and that teachers should use lessons to explore social-justice issues by looking out for gender stereotypes in word problems and applying math concepts to topics like immigration and inequality. After participants expressed their displeasure during a comment period, the education department delayed a decision on the draft revision until 2023.

In October 2021, California governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 101, which requires Golden State high school students to take a one-semester ethnic-studies class to graduate, beginning in the 2029–30 school year. Though the state has issued a controversial model curriculum, it will be up to each school district to determine content. With 1,037 districts in the state, school board meetings over the next few years will be battlegrounds.

Some insist that critical race theory is not being taught in public schools. “Let’s be clear,” Randi Weingarten told an American Federation of Teachers conference in July 2021. “Critical race theory is not taught in elementary schools or high schools.” But make no mistake: CRT is most definitely being taught. In December 2021, John Murawski at RealClearInvestigations provided abundant evidence. One of myriad examples he offered concerned Manuel Rustin, a high school history teacher who helped oversee the drafting of California’s Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. “Ethnic studies without Critical Race Theory is not ethnic studies,” said Rustin. “It would be like a science class without the scientific method. There is no critical analysis of systems of power and experiences of these marginalized groups without Critical Race Theory.”

Thousands of American educators use Lucy Calkins’s Units of Study to teach children to read, report Daniel Buck and James Furey. One part of Calkins’s Critical Literacy: Unlocking Contemporary Fiction, geared to middle school students, discloses that the unit will delve into “the politics of race, class, and gender.” Buck and Furey explain: “One activity asks students to break down ‘hegemonic masculinity’ in the books they’re reading. Another builds ‘identity lenses’ through which students can analyze various texts, including ‘critical race theories’ and ‘gender theories.’ References to identity pervade nearly every page. Accompanying materials declare that the curriculum is ‘dedicated’ to teaching ‘critical literacies’ that will ‘help readers investigate power.’”

In Los Angeles, the school district’s Office of Human Relations, Diversity & Equity released a PowerPoint presentation explaining that CRT isn’t being taught in schools. At the same time, the district delivered presentations that did precisely that. L.A. Unified also mandated that teachers take an antiracism course taught by a known critical race theorist who told them to “challenge whiteness.”

Democratic lawmakers are trying to make California a haven for gender-dysphoric youth. SB 107, which took effect in January 2023, is designed to provide refuge to trans children and their families “if they flee to California from Alabama, Texas, Idaho or any other state criminalizing the parents of trans kids for allowing them to receive gender affirming care”—defined here as “medically necessary health care that respects the gender identity of the patient, as experienced and defined by the patient.” SB 107 will protect these parents “from having their kids taken away from them or from being criminally prosecuted for supporting their trans kids’ access to healthcare.”

California is also home to AB 2119, passed in September 2018, which stipulates that the “rights of minors and nonminors in foster care . . . include the right to be involved in the development of case plan elements related to placement and gender affirming health care, with consideration of their gender identity.” While the bill was still under consideration, the American College of Pediatricians filed testimony urging legislators to reject it. “Children with gender dysphoria believe they are not their biological sex,” the group’s March 2018 testimony read. “A delusion is a fixed false belief. This bill proposes that foster children with gender dysphoria be socially affirmed into their delusion, and allowed to obtain experimental puberty blockers, and dangerous cross-sex hormones and surgery without parental consent.”

In September 2021, California legislators passed AB 1184, a bill cosponsored by Planned Parenthood. As the California Family Council explains, this diktat “prohibits insurance companies from revealing to the policyholder the ‘sensitive services’ of anyone on their policy, including minor children (starting at age 12), even though the policy owner is financially responsible for the services.” The term “sensitive services” refers to all health care related to mental, behavioral, sexual, or reproductive health, as well as treatments for sexually transmitted infections, substance use disorder, and gender-affirming care. The bill doesn’t define what constitutes “gender-affirming care,” but as defined by the University of California–San Francisco, it means hormone therapy and a laundry list of surgeries, including vaginectomy, scrotoplasty, and voice modification, among other procedures.

The CTA, of course, is on board with this radical agenda. At a conference in October 2021, teachers were advised on, in the words of Abigail Shrier, “best practices for subverting parents, conservative communities and school principals on issues of gender identity and sexual orientation.”

And there’s more. In October 2021, California passed a “Menstrual Equity Act,” which stipulates that at least one boys’ bathroom in every middle and high school should have tampon dispensers. The state’s education department recommends books to young students that teach about expanded sexualities and gender identities. Julian Is a Mermaid, for example, deemed appropriate for preschoolers and kindergarteners, describes a young boy who wants to be a sea-dwelling creature after he sees a parade of people dressed up as mermaids while out with his grandmother. The boy puts on lipstick and makes himself a mermaid costume, while his grandmother gives him a beaded necklace to complete his outfit.

A high school teacher in the Capistrano school district keeps a “queer library” in her classroom, filled with more than 100 books, some of which contain sexual imagery, as well as information on orgies, sex parties, and BDSM. In Los Angeles, the school district proudly hosts a “Rainbow Club,” a ten-week district-wide virtual club for “LGBTQ+ elementary school students, their friends and their grown-ups.” The poster specifies that it is for children ranging in age from transitional kindergarten (i.e., four-year-olds) through fifth grade.

Resistance to this radical agenda is mounting, however, among parents, educators, and concerned citizens. In California, groups including Protect Our Kids, Informed Parents of California, Californians for Equal Rights, Alliance for Constructive Ethnic Studies, Educators for Quality and Equality, Parent Revolt, and others provide valuable information and resources to parents interested in challenging CRT and radical gender ideology. Parent Revolt, started by the California Republican Party, recruits and trains candidates to run for school board seats.

In Oakland, a newly formed coalition of parents dissatisfied with the state of public education is trying to get a seat at the table before the Oakland Unified School District negotiates a new contract with the teachers’ union. Individual school districts are also taking steps to protect children. Ramona Unified in Southern California has adopted a civic education policy that won unanimous approval from the school board. The new guidelines ban the teaching of ten concepts about race, including “teaching that a person is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive because of their race or sex, whether intentionally or unintentionally; a person’s worth is determined by their race or sex; a person bears responsibility for past actions of people of the same race or sex; a person should feel guilty or not because of their race or sex; and that the advent of slavery constituted the beginning of the United States.”

Even with these hopeful signs of resistance, many California school districts are still forcing radical curricula about race and gender on children, and the state continues to pass parent-unfriendly laws. Those looking to undo this damage have a long way to go. Until the state reverses course, expect California’s great public school exodus to continue.

Biden Administration Announces $1.2B for Ukraine, Bringing Total Military Aid to $36.9B

The Biden administration on Tuesday announced a new military aid package of $1.2 billion for Ukraine, bringing the total since its war with Russia began to $36.9 billion.

“Today, the Department of Defense (DoD) announced a new security assistance package to reaffirm the steadfast U.S. support for Ukraine, including to bolster its air defenses and sustain its artillery ammunition needs,” the Pentagon said in an announcement.

The equipment will not come out of U.S. military stocks, as much of the assistance has so far, but rather, be purchased new from defense contractors from a fund known as the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

The Pentagon highlighted its purchase of 155mm artillery rounds — something the West has been struggling to supply Ukraine with given the pace of usage by Ukraine’s military in its war against Russia.

The Pentagon also highlighted it would purchase “additional air defense systems and munitions” for Ukraine. Recent allegedly leaked Pentagon documents warned that Ukraine’s air defense munitions were running low.

According to one document dated February 28, Ukraine would run out of missiles for the S-300 and Buk air defense systems used to defend against air attacks by May 3 and April 13 respectively. The purported shortages painted a dire picture for Ukraine’s front line troops, or “FLOT”:

[Ukraine’s] ability to provide medium range air defense to protect the FLOT will be completely reduced by May 23. [Ukraine] assessed to withstand 2-3 more wave strikes. As 1st Layer Defense munitions run out, 2nd and 3rd Layer expenditure rates will increase, reducing the ability to defend against Russian aerial attacks from all altitudes.

Ukraine has been attempting to mount a “spring” counteroffensive against Russian forces, but there are indications that the Ukrainian military is still not ready.

Czech President Petr Pavel, who recently met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “Apparently, they still have a feeling that they do not have everything to start successfully an operation,” according to The Guardian.

“It will be extremely harmful to Ukraine if this counteroffensive fails, because they will not have another chance, at least not this year,” Pavel said, adding that Ukraine would face “terrible losses” during the counteroffensive and could not afford for it to fail.

“Because it’s extremely demanding in terms of putting together personnel equipment, ammunition logistics, fuel financing. It will simply be one chance this year, so it has to be successful,” he said.

Less-Educated U.S.-Born Did Better When Immigration Fell Earnings grew more quickly 2016 to 2019 when migration slowed Washington, D.C. (May 9, 2023) - A new Center for Immigration Studies analysis shows that real (inflation-adjusted) median weekly earnings for U.S.-born workers without a bachelor’s degree increased more quickly during the period of lower legal and illegal immigration from 2016 to 2019 than in the earlier and later periods, which experienced higher immigration. The combination of economic growth during this time period and the lower immigration, likely caused by the Trump administration policies, seems to have increased the earnings of less-educated U.S.-born workers. The raid took place early Sunday morning when a large deployment of military forces blocked the entrances to the city. At the same time, a group surrounded an upscale gated community called Victoria Oriente. Two military helicopters flew over the gated community for hours providing air support. No shots were fired during the operation. Inside that community, soldiers knocked down the large metal gate at Victoria Oriente and raided the first house on the left which law enforcement sources revealed to Breitbart Texas is owned by Jose Alfredo “El Contador” Cardenas Martinez — the jailed leader of the Matamoros faction of the Gulf Cartel. Law enforcement sources also revealed that the raid’s target was Alan Cardenas, one of El Contador’s sons. Currently, El Contador is in a Mexican federal prison facing organized crime charges. He is also fighting his extradition to the U.S. where he faces multiple drug trafficking charges. Days after the raid, authorities have not released any information about Alan’s detention or items seized at the house. The house remains sealed under military guard. Law enforcement sources pointed to a move by government officials to pressure El Contador to negotiate an end to a recently reignited turf war with the Reynosa faction of the Gulf Cartel also known as Los Metros. As Breitbart Texas reported, both factions went to war late last month in a series of clashes throughout the state that spread much fear among locals. While most of the fighting has taken place along highways and rural roads and not inside cities, the turf war led to locals seeing convoys of dozens of SUVs with cartel gunmen and some armored vehicles moving around border cities on their way to the shootouts. AMLO sent a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping demanding that he inform the Mexican authorities about future fentanyl shipments, effectively backing US propaganda that the Chinese government is knowingly flooding the US with the substance and is responsible for overdose deaths. This latest episode confirms that AMLO ultimately bows to the US war drive against China, which is the basis of near-shoring production from Asia to North America. Regarding migration, AMLO agreed to and even praised the implementation of Biden’s new policy to send migrants at the border back to Mexico, denying them the right to apply for asylum. This policy is to replace Title 42, which hypocritically exploited the COVID-19 pandemic as a pretext to do the same and will expire on May 11. On Thursday, however, the Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said the country is not willing to accept the 100,000 Central American migrants the United States expects to send back. Moreover, on April 29, Mexican migration authorities reached a deal with about 3,000 migrants marching together in southern Mexico, promising to let them reach the US border unimpeded if they dissolved into smaller groups, to the dismay of Washington. This decision followed the release of new footage of the March 27 fire at a migrant detention center in Ciudad Juárez, which showed Mexican officials and soldiers refusing to let the migrants out for several minutes as the fire and smoke spread and killed 40. The Biden administration has since ordered 1,500 additional US troops to the border as thousands of migrants are expected to try to cross after May 11. The US military buildup at the border also serves as a threat against AMLO, who has condemned the demands by leading Republicans to invade Mexico, supposedly to fight drug cartels. AMLO’s recent statements are the latest in a long series of nationalist appeals ostensibly aimed against the predatory and imperialist character of US policy toward its historically oppressed neighbor and closest trade partner. In February, he denounced the Biden administration for “meddling” when it backed protests organized by the right-wing opposition against change to the National Electoral Institute. In March, he proposed in a call with Brazilian President Lula to establish new trade partnerships regionally that don’t require the dollar. In mid-April he accused the Pentagon and DEA of spying upon and hacking the Mexican military and giving tips to Mexican media. “They want to rule here, to violate our sovereignty,” he said. AMLO has repeatedly denounced the US and NATO for prolonging and partially causing the war in Ukraine, and called for a peaceful settlement, challenging the propaganda lies of an “unprovoked war” by Putin. He has also demanded the liberation of Julian Assange and offered him asylum. The pseudo-left backers of AMLO are enthusiastically promoting his nationalist demagogy. Jacobin magazine recently insisted, “AMLO is not undermining Mexican democracy,” as his government “refuses total obedience to US hegemony” and takes up the “role of regional leadership in Latin America” against US domination. Last year, one article was even titled, “AMLO is trying to free Mexico and Latin America from the US’s Imperial Grip.” AMLO’s nationalist bluster, however, serves only to cover his government’s subordination to US imperialism on all fundamental questions and, like all demagoguery, is aimed chiefly against the working class. Under the slogan of a “Fourth Transformation,” AMLO vowed to radically depart from his predecessors, who sought to “surrender our national assets” and turn Mexico into “a real factory of poor people.” Instead, he promised to place the “poor first” and provide “a decent life” to all Mexicans. But, as soon as he came to power, he created a free trade zone along the US-Mexico border with massive corporate tax cuts, prioritized interest payments to creditors over social spending and sacrificed the lives of over 600,000 people during the COVID-19 pandemic to guarantee the flow of profits. His minimum wage increases have proven inadequate, with four out of ten formal workers still making less than the poverty level. And six out of ten workers belong to the informal sector, largely deprived of even the minimum wage, healthcare, and other benefits. Meanwhile, numerous economists have concluded that his welfare programs have been inadequate and not really aimed at the poor. As summed up by a recent study: “The urban and rural population making less than the poverty line (and who don’t possess at least 2.5 hectares of land) [are] not eligible for social programs aimed at alleviating their plight.” (Martínez Espinoza, UNAM, 2023) According to official figures, there are about 4 million more poor today than when AMLO took power in 2018, and analysts expect that rampant inflation will further increase poverty. In sum, AMLO is doing the exact opposite of confronting US imperialism to defend workers’ interests. As he oversees the implementation of the new US, Mexico, Canada trade pact, he has maintained high poverty rates and massively under-financed social services as bludgeons to keep wages low, lowered tax rates and offered other incentives to prostitute Mexico’s workers and natural resources to US and Canadian corporations more than any other president since the Mexican Revolution. This is the real content of his “Fourth Transformation.” In February, he personally reached an agreement with Elon Musk to build a massive Tesla factory in Monterrey, shortly after opposing the location because “there is no water” in the region. And there are ongoing talks to build advanced chips in Mexico under Biden’s “Chips Act” aimed at lowering US dependence on microprocessors produced in Asia. By deepening the already fundamental role played by Mexico in the North American economic platform used by US and Canadian imperialism to confront China, Russia and Washington’s so-called allies in Europe, AMLO hopes to gain leverage to negotiate a greater slice of the profits for his sponsors in the Mexican oligarchy, including his supporters Carlos Slim and German Larrea, the two richest men in Mexico. The support for “near-shoring” production away from China was the basis for the ties between AMLO and his “friend” Donald Trump. AMLO backed Trump’s attempted coup by legitimizing Trump’s bogus claims of electoral fraud, refusing to recognize Biden’s clear electoral victory for six weeks while Trump continued to push for overturning the results, and condemning Trump’s suspension on social media. At the time, Trump was aiming to establish a dictatorship based on “America First” imperialism, which involved repeated threats to invade Mexico and the use of violent anti-Mexican chauvinism to mobilize fascist militias and layers within the state as his core constituency. A section of the national bourgeoisie fears that AMLO’s confrontational statements could cost them US investments. These elements also seek to undermine AMLO’s efforts to gain a stronger grip over the state by cultivating a constituency among the military leadership. AMLO’s anti-US rhetoric serves both to advance the trade and investment demands of the Mexican ruling elite and to protect his clique in the military and police from corruption allegations—in turn used by the US and the Mexican opposition as political capital. Most fundamentally, however, beyond just electoral calculations, the promotion of popular illusions in AMLO have played a crucial role since the late 1990s in suppressing the class struggle and concealing the class character of the state. This is at the heart of the services he provides to the ruling class and the most important card in his hand. But the fear of awakening the giant industrial workforce south of the Rio Grande in joint struggle with American workers also explains why the Biden administration and the US corporate media limit the aggressiveness of their criticisms of AMLO. In fact, AMLO’s party Morena and the White House have worked very closely to channel an ongoing rebellion among rank-and-file workers against the hated trade union bureaucracy behind so-called “independent unions,” which have been trained as lackeys of management and sponsored by the US State Department through the Solidarity Center, which is a US-government-funded arm of the AFL-CIO. The criticism came because DeSantis prodded the state legislature to adopt migration reforms, including laws that curb the inflow of illegal workers into blue-collar jobs that can be done by Americans — including by Latino Americans. “Now I found out that the Florida governor — imagine, Florida, which is full of migrants! — is taking repressive, inhumane measures against migrants in Florida because he wants to be a [presidential] candidate,” said Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). He added: Why does [DeSantis] have to take advantage of people’s pain, of migrants’ pain, of people’s need for political gain?  … This is immoral — this is politicking. The complaints were spotlighted by Politico. In contrast, Obrador praised his dealmaking with Biden as he revealed that he would talk Tuesday morning with Biden. “We will continue talking about the cooperation we have, which is very, very good and which we will maintain,” he said, according to a report by TheHill.com. Obrador and Biden have announced deals to stabilize — but not stop or reduce — the huge flow of wage-cutting economic migrants through Mexico into U.S. jobs and housing. In Florida, DeSantis’ new reforms include penalties for transporting illegal migrants into the state, as well as a law requiring more companies to use E-Verify. The E-Verify system allows employers to easily confirm that job seekers are not illegals. The E-Verify rule is opposed by many business groups who prefer to hire cheap, diligent, and compliant illegals. Much of the illegal hiring is done via subcontractors that protect the major U.S. companies from penalties. On May 7, the scale of the corruption problem was exposed when illegals — and likely, some sympathetic legal workers — walked off a construction site in Florida: The post-1990 inflow of illegal migrants in middle-class U.S. construction jobs slashed Americans’ wages, pushed huge numbers of Americans out of good jobs, and deterred many younger Americans from entering the unstable sector. In 2018, an inspector for California agencies explained how Americans were pushed out of the blue-collar construction sector: In the 80’s and early 90’s when I was a contractor, it wasn’t unusual to see undocumented workers doing landscaping, demolition, then it became roofing, and concrete work. So the heavier, more difficult, and dirtier sort of trades where you actually got in the ditches were the first trades to be taken over [by illegal aliens]. Then the rest of them began to fall. The drywall was next, painting, framing was the last, and now electrical and plumbing has been taken over. All the trades finally went to the illegal immigrants. Decades later, millions of Americans remained mired in poverty and drugs. A 2020 report funded by a pro-migration group reported E-Verify would help narrow the income gap between the least-educated and better-educated American workers, said a report funded by a pro-migration business group. Mexico’s president is a Latino ethnic nationalist who wants to help more Latinos from Central America migrate to his northern neighbor, the United States. The deal is not intended to block labor migration into Americans’ workplaces and neighborhoods, said Rosemary Jenks, the director of Government Relations for NumbersUSA: “It’s all designed to mask what is the intended goal of the Biden administration — which is to bring in as many people as possible.” The administration’s same-day announcement that it sending 1,500 troops to the border “is all part of that distraction,” she added. The troops will be “pushing paper and stocking warehouses” to help Biden’s border agents and its progressive non-profit register more migrants for flights and bus trips to Americans’ cities and towns. The deal with Mexico cooperation helps Biden’s deputies quietly funnel the chaotic and growing flood of illegal, job-seeking migrants through hidden side doors in the border, she said: You no longer have videos of hundreds of people streaming across the Rio Grande [because] people are being flown in on taxpayer dollars, [and] poor people are coming through the ports of entry — again, with no legal right to be there — so that it doesn’t look like chaos …. [But] the end result is exactly the same: A massive number of people with no right to be here coming into the United States, using taxpayer dollars, taking taxpayer-funded services, competing for housing, competing for jobs, all of the rest of it. Officials are already inviting up to 30,000 migrants per month to fly from four countries into airports around the United States. They are also helping to bus roughly 25,000 migrants from shelters in Mexico to border sites for quiet catch-and-release processing. “It is stunning, the lawlessness of this administration,” she added. “They just create these programs out of whole cloth … — these people are making their own laws and nobody’s stopping them.” The Biden policies are facing legal review in a federal court in Texas, and the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision by June. Understandably, Mexico is using its power over the border flow to extract rewards from the U.S. government, she said.   “Mexico has power over the United States,” said Jenks. “Mexico is letting all of these people in through its borders, and it’s doing that very intentionally [because it has the power to] stop it, or … increase the flow.” For example, Mexico steered up to 30,000 Haitian migrants to the Del Rio crossing in Texas in September 2021. The event was a shock to the Biden administration because the migrant flood was broadcast on the evening TV news to the many Americans who do not monitor political news. “Mexico has no reason to agree to this [deal] if they’re not getting something of equal value or more value in exchange –I just don’t know what that is,” Jenks said. The deal “consolidates Mexico’s role as the lynchpin in the US’ migration containment strategy,” said Mexican journalist, José Díaz Briseño. The strategy is sometimes called. “border externalization,” because it allows White House officials — and their business allies — to quietly sign deals with foreign countries instead of openly negotiating with a divided Congress and hostile voters. Mexico’s president, Lopez Obrador, is using his power over the U.S. border to minimize U.S. protests while he expands authoritarian rule in Mexico, said a tweet by author David Frum. Obarado has long sought to swap border cooperation in exchange for more Mexicans and Latinos getting U.S. jobs that otherwise would go to Americans. The White House’s official statement revealed little about the deal. For example, it said, “Mexico will continue to accept back migrants on humanitarian grounds” without revealing the monthly cap on return. The current cap is just 30,000, which is far below the monthly arrival of more than 180,000 in April. The statement does not discuss curbs on the flow of drugs into the United States, which now kill roughly 100,000 Americans each year. The statement does not talk about the rising flood of global migrants from Chile, Colombia, India, China, Brazil, Cameroon, Nepal, Russia, and more than 150 other countries. Under Biden’s policies, very few migrants from those countries are being sent home. This passive policy ensures that successful migrants will summon many more migrants from their home countries. Biden’s deputies want to import more foreigners for the jobs and homes that would otherwise go to Americans. For example, the pro-migration border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, said on April 21: Our model is as follows: Build lawful pathways, cut out the smugglers who exploit these vulnerable individuals. Build lawful pathways, give individuals an opportunity to reach the United States safely in an orderly way to avail themselves of the humanitarian relief our laws provide. The White House statement did say that U.S. officials also plan to import another 100,000 poor migrants from Central America. The lucky migrants are the left-behind children of migrants who illegally sneaked into the U.S. economy. The new pipeline comes after officials announced they would open two pipelines from Colombia and Panama, even as they expand many other inflows of migrants and visa workers. “Everything that the Biden administration does has the effect of bringing more people into the United States who should not be here and do not have a right to be here,” said Jenks In 1990, Congress set current immigration levels at about one million per year, alongside a flow of temporary workers for favored interest groups, including farmers, resort operators, and Fortune 500 companies. Those high caps provide roughly one immigrant for every four U.S. births but helped limit the migration-imposed damage to Americans’ national labor and housing markets. Biden’s cooperation with other countries, and the establishment media, helped minimize the public recognition and response to Biden’s population policy. “They got away with [an inflow of] 4.5, to 6 million people over the last two years,” she said. Despite the massive inflow, Biden’s deputies and their allies are portraying his border policies as a return to the l0w migraiton rules set by President Donald Trump and his deputies.   Extraction Migration The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration. This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade, and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy. The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans. The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers. The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because the population replacement allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.   In many speeches, Mayorkas says he is building a mass migration system to deliver workers to wealthy employers and investors and “equity” to poor foreigners. The nation’s border laws are subordinate to elite opinion about “the values of our country,” Mayorkas claims. Migration — and especially, labor migration — is unpopular among swing voters. A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). In reality, it ought to be ashamed. Supposedly framed as an issue of federal power pre-empting state power, it's hardly Mexico's business. But Mexico made a big show of saying its interest was in protecting its nationals from the dreadful racism of Arizona that its own citizens, curiously enough, keep fleeing to. Espinosa said her government was busy collecting data on civil rights violations and her department had issued an all-out travel warning to Mexican nationals about Arizona.  That's where Mexico's hypocrisy is just too much. First, Mexico encourages illegal immigration to the U.S. Oh, it says it doesn't, but it prints comic book guides for would-be illegal immigrants and provides ID cards for illegals once they get here. In Arizona alone, Mexico keeps five consulates busy.  That's not out of love for its own citizens, but because Mexicans send cash back to Mexico that helps finance the government. Instead of selling its wasteful state-owned oil company or getting rid of red tape to create jobs in Mexico, Mexico spends the hard currency from remittances. It fails to look at why its citizens leave. According to the Heritage Foundation-Wall Street Journal 2010 Index of Economic Freedom, Mexico's big problem is — no shock — government corruption, where it ranks below the world average. That's where Mexico's cartels come in. Mexico's encouragement of illegal immigration undercuts its valiant war against its smuggling cartels. The cartels' prowess and firepower have made them the only ones who can smuggle effectively across the border. U.S. law enforcers say they now control human-smuggling on our southern border. Feed them immigrants and they grow more cash-rich — and right now, immigrant smuggling is about a third of the cartels' income. Mass graves and car bombings are signs of criminal organizations getting bigger, and more powerful. Juarez, which has lost 5,000 people this year, bleeds because cartels fight over not just who gets the drug routes, but who gets the illegal-immigrant smuggling routes, too. Aside from the cartel mayhem in Mexico, the bodies are piling up in the Arizona desert and U.S. Border Patrol rescues of abandoned illegals left to die have risen.   It's not the desert's fault, and it's certainly not Uncle Sam's fault, as activists claim. No, it's the fact that Mexicans are encouraged to emigrate. Criminal cartels don't fear abandoning their human cargo in the desert, as long as Mexico does nothing and blames Uncle Sam. Hearing Mexico's government now cheer the Arizona ruling, which will only encourage more illegal immigration, gives the country's regime a pretty inhuman face.  If Mexico had any decency, it would do all it could to discourage illegal immigration and keep a respectful silence about Arizona. It needs U.S. support for its war on cartels. Instead of insulting American citizens, Mexico should confront directly the reasons why its people are so desperate to leave, and do all in its power to destroy the cartels that are slowly killing the nation. That includes defunding the murderous gangs by halting illegal immigration. A multi-agency task force took the fugitive into custody on Tuesday night near Cut & Shoot, Texas. Sheriff Capers told Breitbart Texas that a team of U.S. Marshal Deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety CID agents, and Border Patrol’s elite BORTAC agents found Francisco Oropesa near Cut & Shoot early Tuesday evening. The arrest brought to an end, the four-day manhunt for the four-time deported Mexican national.   The search for the man accused of murdering four of his neighbors, all Honduran migrants, began on Saturday morning when San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived on the scene of the mass-casualty murder. From that point, a massive manhunt began and the reward for his capture rose to $80,000. The sheriff said they received leads from Maryland to Wyoming. However, a local tip brought the law enforcement team to Oropesa less than 20 miles from where the shooting took place. While driving from Cut & Shoot to his jail with the suspect in his vehicle, Sheriff Capers said he wasn’t going to believe it was his suspect until he looked at the man’s tattoo and looked into his eyes. Capers said he took off the arresting agent’s cuffs and “rolled up his sleeves and placed him in my cuffs.” The case will now fall into the hands of San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon. Outside the church, CNN's camera captured dozens of migrants sitting on the sidewalk and street. The Biden administration is deploying troops to assist with administrative duties at the border when Title 42 ends. The increased mainstream media coverage of the border crisis comes as more Democratic politicians speak out about the struggles in their cities.  New York City mayor Eric Adams (D.) lashed out at Texas governor Greg Abbott (R.) Tuesday for sending migrants to New York and other "black-run cities." "This weekend, we learned that Governor Abbott is once again deciding to play politics with people's lives by resuming the busing of asylum seekers to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, and Washington, D.C.," Adams said Monday. "It is also impossible to ignore the fact that Abbott is now targeting five cities run by Black mayors. Put plainly, Abbott is using this crisis to hurt Black-run cities." Lori Lightfoot (D.), the outgoing mayor of Chicago, said her city is "tapped out" of resources for migrants.   Despite the comments, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre falsely said Monday that illegal immigration has decreased "by more than 90 percent." Her comments mirror similar declarations of confidence in border security from President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Illegal immigration actually hit a record high in 2022 of 2.76 million encounters.  Texas Governor Orders Effective Commerce Shutdown from Mexican State of Tamaulipas Amid Migrant Surge   Washington, D.C. (May 3, 2023) – The Center for Immigration Studies has confirmed that in a reprise of a controversial but successful diplomatic pressure tactic against Mexico from last year, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered meticulous truck safety inspections once again that have shuttered a major commercial trucking artery from Mexico. This comes as illegal border crossings have spiked in anticipation of the end of Title 42 expulsions on May 11. The bridge slowdown is “only a break-glass solution for when things get really bad,” one senior Abbott official told CIS. The deployment of Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle safety inspection officers Tuesday has all but closed the trucking lanes at Veterans International Bridge from Matamoros into Brownsville. “We’re doing 100 percent inspections, which means every truck will be inspected,” Texas DPS spokesman Chris Olivarez confirmed to CIS Wednesday. “It’s indefinite,” Olivarez said. “We want to make sure the trucks are safe and they’re following state and federal regulations to make sure they are operating safety on Texas roadways.” This week’s resurrection of the inspections regimen comes as Mexican authorities across in the state of Tamaulipas last week began to allow tens of thousands of immigrants to cross the Rio Grande from Matamoros – enticed by the Biden-Harris administration’s continuing mass releases of border crossers into the American interior. "The administration made a decision to deploy [troops] based on a political agenda," then-senator Harris said, "and I believe that it is inappropriate to require the limited resources of the United States military to be used in such a way." She described the Trump administration's decision as "some demonstration for the TV cameras based on a political agenda instead of what is a national security threat." Harris has not used similar language to describe the Biden administration's decision to deploy troops to the border. According to a Homeland Security Department memo, the Pentagon will send staff to manage an enormous expected surge on the southern border following the repeal of Title 42, a Trump administration border security measure, the Washington Free Beacon reported Tuesday. Defense Department officials confirmed the same day that the administration will send "1,500 active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in anticipation of an influx of migrants," according to CNN. "The active-duty Army units will assist Border Patrol and will be armed," National Review reported. In addition to the Army, 2,500 active-duty National Guardsmen are already stationed at the border. The Border Patrol, which last year faced a record-high number of encounters with illegal immigrants, may now have to deal with up to 15,000 migrants per day. By comparison, the whole month of March 2022 "saw an average of roughly 5,200 daily illegal border crossings," the Free Beacon reported. An unprecedented 5.5 million immigrants have already illegally crossed the border since Harris's boss, President Joe Biden, took office. Harris, who is ostensibly in charge of managing the administration's response to the crisis, has only been to the border once, in June 2021. In January of this year, she visited the border state of Arizona but didn't discuss the crisis. Instead, she talked about green energy projects. Even as the crisis worsens by the day, Biden administration officials, including Harris, have insisted that the border is secure. One day before the Pentagon confirmed the troop movement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre falsely claimed that "illegal migration" has "come down by more than 90 percent." In President Joe Biden’s first year in office, Steven Kopits with Princeton Policy Advisors accurately projected that about two million border crossers and illegal aliens would be encountered along the southern border. Likewise, in 2022, Kopits correctly projected that more than 2.3 million border crossers and illegal aliens would be encountered at the border, for a total of about 4.2 million border encounters in Biden’s first two years, with millions of those being released into the U.S. interior. For fiscal year 2023, which ends in September, Kopits estimates that more than two million border crossers and illegal aliens will have been encountered at the border — slightly down from his prior projection showing 2.7 million may be encountered.   Chart via Princeton Policy Advisors “… [O]ur forecast for Fiscal Year 2023 apprehensions still constitutes the second worst year on record, better only than last year,” Kopits writes, calling the projected mass migration “still dreadful.” That projection, Kopits suggests, is likely to rise as the Biden administration tests a host of Catch and Release programs like the Customs and Border Protection One (CBP One) mobile app which allows foreign nationals to schedule appointments at the border for release into the U.S. interior. Biden is set to have about 30,000 foreign nationals released into the U.S. interior every month via the migrant mobile app, and already more than 30,000 have been released since the app’s start date in mid-January. Foreign nationals using the migrant mobile app have a 99 percent success rate of getting released into the U.S. interior after scheduling their appointments at the border, data shows. The targeted programs include food stamps, student-loan giveaways, energy programs, enforcement by the Internal Revenue Services, and welfare programs, according to a review by Phillip Swagel, director of the Congressional Budget Office. But there is no mention of the border, migration, immigration, enforcement, asylum, or parole in the CBO report or the underlying bill, So far, Biden has rejected the GOP’s proposed spending cuts. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has only a handful of votes to spare in the House, so his plan needs to be supported by nearly all GOP members. By Tuesday evening, though, the GOP’s whip count remained short of the votes needed for passage, with a cohort of Midwestern Republicans demanding changes to a major tax rollback in the bill. Business-backed, pro-migration GOP members are using their voting power to prevent any migration cuts. For example, business-backed Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), has promised to vote against the debt limit bill if the GOP tries to shut down Biden’s inflow of asylum migrants. “Bring unchristian anti-immigrant bills to the floor and I am a NO on the debt ceiling,” Gonzales declared via Twitter.   Gonzales’ mandated donor reports show that one of his biggest donors is the $9 trillion Blackrock investment fund. His views match his donors’ economic interests. More than 400,000 duplicate requests for H-1B work permits were submitted by companies for 96,000 foreigners, according to an April 28 statement by deputies of Biden’s pro-migration border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas. Joe Biden’s DHS ignored the damage to Americans as they worried about the fraud’s impact on foreigners in their April 27 post: The large number of eligible registrations for beneficiaries with multiple eligible registrations – much larger than in previous years – has raised serious concerns that some may have tried to gain an unfair advantage by working together to submit multiple registrations on behalf of the same beneficiary. [Emphasis added] The 408,891 duplicative requests outnumber the 350,103 non-duplicative requests — many of which used more sophisticated fraud techniques. The duplicative requests debunk the core claim used to justify the program: that the H-1B workers are needed for specific unfilled jobs that cannot be filled by Americans. The duplicative applications corroborate the core criticism of the program: that it is intended to help CEOs replace outspoken American professionals with cheap and submissive foreign workers. The blatant H-1B fraud is just one slice of the many non-immigrant worker programs that keep at least 1.5 million low-wage foreign graduates in middle-class jobs needed by indebted U.S. college graduates. This vast, fraud-ridden archipelago of foreign contract workers successfully suppresses white-collar salaries, subordinates professionals’ priorities to their CEOs’ stock-maximizing goals, and gradually deflates the political power of the U.S. professional class. “The program is doing exactly what it was designed to do,” said Kevin Lynn, founder of the U.S. TechWorkers advocacy group. He told Breitbart News, “That goal is to displace seasoned tech professionals in America, and it’s not only tech anymore — it is accounting and other back-office operations. The longer-term intent of the programs was to allow consulting companies to create a workforce that could displace American workers, then through knowledge transfer, move those jobs over to a low-ranked country where you’re paying $6 an hour … So there’s nothing unintended about its consequences — it’s all by design,” he explained. “In 2022, median annual pay was $52,000 for Americans with a bachelor’s degree,” according to a February 2023 report by Bloomberg. “That’s a 7.4% decline in inflation-adjusted terms — the steepest plunge since 2004, erasing nearly all of the pandemic-era gains. It was sharpest for those earning the most.” So far, GOP leaders have done little or nothing to use this economic issue to win more voters from insecure, swing-voting college graduates. For example, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), the chairman of the House homeland security committee, has yet to hold a hearing on the visa worker programs. Instead, donor-influenced GOP leaders woo many blue-collar voters by promising — and so far, failing — to stop illegal migration over the U.S. border. The H-1B Program The H-1B visas are extremely valuable to foreigners because they provide two three-year work permits plus a path to the hugely valuable prizes of green cards and citizenship. They are also extremely valuable to companies because they allow CEOs to earn huge profits by dangling citizenship to foreign graduates in exchange for several years of cheap and compliant labor. The Economic Policy Institute reported on one lawsuit in 2021: Thousands of skilled migrants with H-1B visas working as subcontractors at well-known corporations like Disney, FedEx, Google, and others appear to have been underpaid by at least $95 million. Victims include not only the H-1B workers but also the U.S. workers who are either displaced or whose wages and working conditions degrade when employers are allowed to underpay skilled migrant workers with impunity. Moreover, the government uses a $10-per-ticket lottery to annually give away more than 100,000 H-1B visas to companies and foreign graduates. This careless giveaway creates a bonanza for the middlemen CEOs who apply for visas on behalf of fee-paying foreign graduates. In effect, the companies can act like ticket scalpers for people trying to get into the United States. The blatant H-1B fraud echoes widespread fraud and abuse in other non-immigrant programs. These programs include the H-2A program for agriculture workers, the “Unaccompanied Alien Children” gateway for teenage workers, the B-1/B-2 visa for white-collar visitors, the E-2 visa for franchise managers, the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program for foreign graduates of U.S. universities, the H-2B seasonal worker program, the L-1 employee transfer program, and the J-1 visas given out by the Department of State. Amid pressure from media executives, U.S. media professionals have no authority — and therefore, little personal interest — to track the large-scale outsourcing of professional-class jobs that are needed by their peers and children. For example, the New York Times‘ national editor, Jia Lynn Yang, forcefully denies the right of Americans to their own borders and national labor market, saying, “What difference is there between us, with our precious [legal immigration and citizenship] papers, and the people we see at our border who are dying to come in? There is none.” The Visa Workforce These programs are used to keep at least 1.5 million foreign graduates in jobs at many U.S. companies — especially by the Fortune 500 and their layers of subcontracting companies. The basic nature of the fraud is that Indian-born hiring managers are allowed to fire American professionals and then sell the jobs to networks of Indian migrants. The migrants buy white-collar jobs via kickbacks to the hiring managers, and the managers use their power over work permits and green card applications to enforce workplace compliance and silence about Indian-style workplace corruption. But this organized gutting of the American professional class is overseen by American executives and investors, frequently expanded by lobbyist-influenced federal agencies, and hidden beneath the media’s emotional coverage of illegal-migration controversies. The professional-class replacement is periodically trimmed by U.S. law agencies and is weakly resisted by politicians zig-zagging between donors and voters. Fraud is easy for Indian migrants and Indian-born managers because U.S. citizens and federal officials have little or no ability to recognize financial transactions that can be made via multiple Indian languages, family networks, and multiple legal jurisdictions. Moreover, India’s government has relied on the visa program as a primary way to build up its economy and vigorously lobbies in D.C. to preserve and expand the visa worker programs. U.S. Tech Workers spotlighted the predatory relationship between U.S investors and India, saying: · IBM: Arvind Krishna became CEO in 2020, and the company filed 118 Perm applications and 3,605 H-1B visa applications for 3,605 workers. In 2021 they filed 213 Perm applications and 2,118 H1-B visa applications for 2,118 Workers, and it should be noted that half of IBM’s workforce is in India. (2020 was the year of the Covid Pandemic and H-1B visa applications were down across the spectrum.) · Google: Sundar Pichai became CEO in 2015, and the company filed 831 Perm applications and 2,872 H-1B visa applications for 2,872 workers. In 2021 they filed 2,398 Perm applications and 15,562 H1-B visa applications for 15,562 Workers. · Microsoft: Satya Nadella became CEO in 2014, and the company filed 938 Perm applications and 2,989 H-1B visa applications for 4,566 workers. In 2021 they filed 3,089 Perm applications and 11,763 H1-B visa applications for 49,065 Workers. · Twitter: Parag Agrawal became CTO in 2017, and the company filed 28 Perm applications and 209 H-1B visa applications for 615 Workers. In 2021, they filed 77 Perm applications and 732 H-1B visa applications for 732 workers. This population-wide displacement of American professionals has damaged America’s productivity, innovation, and political stability. Biden’s business-backed deputies want to import even more foreign workers for Fortune 500 investors, even though migration reduces Americans’ wages and corporate investment in labor-saving productivity. On January 8, Mayorkas claimed that U.S. employers needed more workers: The labor shortage in the United States is one powerful example of how desperately we need to fix our broken immigration system.  You know, we look to the north … Canada realized that it has a 1-million-person labor shortage there, and they are bringing in approximately 1.4 million migrants this year to address that labor shortage. Our programs — our H-2A, our H-2B, our skilled worker programs — are far outdated to really meet the economic needs as well as the economic opportunities [for migrants] that immigration can provide. Federal Response to Fraud The agency statement threatens perjury charges against the company executives that filed the duplicative requests while ignoring other categories of fraud, saying, “We remind the public that at the time each registration is submitted, each prospective petitioner is required to sign an attestation, under penalty of perjury.” But the Wall Street Journal report suggests that few of the 2024 cases of blatant fraud will be punished: Though it isn’t technically illegal for a foreign worker to have multiple companies submit visa applications on their behalf, companies submitting applications must attest that they have a real [unfilled] job for the employee in question if they win a visa. If companies that win a visa then quickly contract an employee out to third parties [for another job], or lay off an employee on the visa [from the identified job] so he or she can switch companies, that could potentially amount to fraud. … [Some] companies have been referred to federal law-enforcement agencies for potential criminal prosecution, a USCIS official said …. [Also] officials hope to disqualify visa applicants if they committed fraud to boost their chances. The 2023 fraud is a repeat of similar fraud in 2022, but federal officials have done little to curb the program’s expanding damage to U.S. graduates — or even pressure from immigration lawyers for the foreign workers.   In 2021, Biden’s deputies quickly scrapped a reform that would have assigned the H-1B visas to the companies that offered the highest salaries. The Wall Street Journal article outlined a very tepid and slow response in 2023: The government has proposed raising the registration fee to $215 [per H-1B visa request], a change that will likely be in effect by next year’s lottery, and the agency said it plans to write regulations to try to prevent further fraud. Extraction Migration The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration. This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade, and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy. The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans. The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers. Harmon exposed the visa fraud and earned a share of the $9.9 million federal fine with his Qui Tam lawsuit. The Department of Justice said: L&T Technology Services, LTD (“LTTS”), a company based in India, with U.S. offices in Edison New Jersey, has agreed to pay $9,928,000 to resolve allegations that between 2014 and 2019, LTTS underpaid visa fees owed to the United States by acquiring inexpensive B-1 visas, rather than more expensive H-1B visas, in alleged violation of the False Claims Act. “The B-1 visa is the main vehicle to cheat American [college graduates] out of jobs,” said Jay Palmer, an expert on forced labor and human trafficking, and a former advisor to President Donald Trump. He continued: Companies encourage [foreign] individuals to get a B-1 visa to come to the United States and work. They work these workers on 1099s [as contractors] with no benefits and they pay them through third-party consulting companies. Sometimes, the worker will be able to get an Individual Tax Identification Number and work undetectably for 10 years. The fraud behind this visa is more rampant than any other visa we have in the United States. Palmer applauded Harmon the whistleblower, saying, “Being a whistleblower is not an easy task — you have to have intestinal fortitude.” Several other B-1 qui tam lawsuits are being litigated.     Palmer is familiar with the B-1 fraud because he works with many Indians who have overstayed their visas and are looking for ways to get legal status. The B-1 fraud is easy to accomplish and rarely detected or penalized by federal agencies, Palmer said: All you have to do is have an outbound and a return flight to the United States –that’s all. What they do is they get an outbound flight [to the United States]… and they cancel their return, get the money and go to work. They’re coming over here legally but becoming illegal [by working]. When they’re over here, they’re getting driver’s licenses, some are even getting Social Security numbers … they’re not supposed to, but they’re still issued. They come to the United States and they never leave. Most people working in a convenience store are over here on B-1 visas [often working for foreign managers with E-2 visas]. Hundreds of thousands are working on white-collar jobs. The fraud is difficult for ordinary Americans to detect — even when it is happening in the next cubicle. The commonplace B-1 fraud is disguised amid the churning population of  1.5 million-plus foreign graduates who are working in the United States under a wide variety of legal visas. Those temporary work visas include H-1Bs, TNs, L-1s, J-1s, and the “Optional Practical Training” work permit for foreign graduates of U.S. colleges. The legal visa workers often switch workplaces because they are employed by Indian-owned subcontractors, and often go home to avoid an obvious overstay of their temporary visas. The B-1 fraud problem is further hidden by foreign graduates who overstay their visas to become illegal gig workers in the layers of subcontractors under Fortune 500 companies. The huge flood of foreign college graduates is forcing down the workplace clout and the salaries of American professionals because the foreign workers will accept very low salaries to stay in the United States. The government-delivered inflow of foreign workers is pushing many Americans out of white-collar technology jobs and into lower-wage, blue-collar jobs.   “I have seen the [hiring] system in the backend, and it is so appalling to see that there is so much [resume] forgery being done, there’s so much of corruption being done, that it is almost to the level back in India,” Aabha, an Indian contract worker in North Carolina, told Breitbart News. She continued: I have met so many [American] people who are graduates and so much more knowledgeable than the Indians that I see in my regular day — and they are [saying] like “Okay, because we are not experienced, we are not getting [U.S. technology] jobs.” So they decide to do a blue collar job. They’re walking into Walmart, they’re walking into Best Buy. And these Indians, the team that I work with, they cannot even speak a single sentence in English without making any mistakes. Yet President Joe Biden’s officials are trying to import as many foreign workers as they can, even as Fortune 500 companies fire thousands of American professionals. “The top 30 H-1B employers hired 34,000 new H-1B workers in 2022 and laid off at least 85,000 workers in 2022 and early 2023,” said an April 11 report by the left-wing Economic Policy Institute (EPI). Those layoffs include many visa workers, who are required by law to return home once their job disappears. In response, Biden’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) agency is allowing the laid-off H-1B visa workers to get six-month B-1 visas so they have more time to win new jobs that are also being sought by U.S. graduates. “[We are] aware, of course, of the many recent layoffs in the technology sector, [so] we published options and useful information for [foreign] employees across the country facing termination and those in this vulnerable situation,” said USCIS director Ur Jaddou said April 11.   “Searching for employment in the United States does not fall under the meaning of a legitimate business activity for the purpose of B-1 visa eligibility,” responded Elizabeth Jacobs, a lawyer with the Center for Immigration Studies. Very few of the illegally-working B-1 graduates are deported, mostly because of Silicon Valley’s huge influence in the White House and in both parties. This week, for example, Indian media outlets reported that four House members from California are pressuring USCIS to ensure that laid-off Indian workers are not sent home. The legislators are Reps. Zoe Lofgren, Ro Khanna, Jimmy Panetta, and Kevin Mullin. The Democrats’ support for foreign workers over their own swing-voting, college-educated voters could be an opportunity for GOP strategists. But GOP leaders show no willingness to reject the cheap-labor demands of their own business donors. Biden’s federal agencies also make the white-collar fraud easier by bundling B-2 tourist visas with the B-1 visitor visas, Palmer said. “They should separate these and charge more for them,” he said. “The United States issued over 16 million of these [B-1/B-2 visas] a year and they’re nontraceable, basically — this is the same visa that some of the 9/11 terrorists came in on,” Palmer added. Breitbart has covered some of the many cases of B-1 fraud within the Fortune 500’s pyramids of Indian-managed subcontracting companies and gig workers. In 2013, another Indian firm paid a fine of $33 million for cheating the government as it allegedly replaced American hires with smuggled Indian college graduates.  But most of the B-1 fraud is tolerated by agencies, prosecutors, and politicians. In 2019, Breitbart News reported; Infosys, one of the biggest Indian outsourcing companies, allegedly cheated 500 American graduates out of jobs over 11 years from 2006 to 2017 — and will only have to pay $800,000, without admitting guilt, in a settlement with California’s attorney general. The attorney general, Xavier Becerra, now runs the Department of Health and Human Services for President Joe Biden. However, under President Donald Trump, the reform-minded officials in the agencies began to crack down on the B-1 fraud. “They tried but it didn’t work,” Palmer said. Extraction Migration The federal government has long operated an unpopular economic policy of Extraction Migration. This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, reduces beneficial trade, and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy. The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans. The lethal policy also sucks jobs and wealth from heartland states by subsidizing coastal investors with a flood of low-wage workers, high-occupancy renters, and government-aided consumers. The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, because it allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.   In many speeches, immigration chief Alejandro Mayorkas says he is building a mass migration system to deliver workers to wealthy employers and investors and “equity” to poor foreigners. The nation’s border laws are subordinate to elite opinion about “the values of our country,” Mayorkas claims. Migration — and especially, labor migration — is unpopular among swing voters. A 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats   Analysis conducted last year reveal that 71 percent of tech workers in Silicon Valley are foreign-born, while the tech industry in the San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward area is made up of 50 percent foreign-born tech workers.    Report: Facebook to Cut Thousands of Jobs in Latest Corporate Downsizing   Reuters February 22, 2023 (Reuters)—Facebook-parent Meta Platforms Inc is planning a fresh round of job cuts in a reorganization and downsizing effort that could affect thousands of workers, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday. Last year, the social media giant said it will let go of 13% of its workforce, or more than 11,000 employees, as it grappled with soaring costs and a weak advertising market. But that claim is toothless, in large part because recent polls show that many Americans of Latino ancestry are increasingly voting for the GOP, precisely because GOP leaders oppose the amnesty-amplified wave of cheap labor into their communities. The claim is being made by pro-migration groups, including the leaders of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON) which denounced the Senate’s parliamentarian’s decision to exclude the parole amnesty for 6.5 million illegals from the draft Build Back Better spending plan. NDLON declared Thursday night: Democrats’ excuses for their failure, for their incompetence, and for their insincerity will be the ammunition used by xenophobes in the Republican Party to retake control of the federal government in upcoming elections. Inaction on immigration legalization risks further propelling Trumpism in every possible way … No more excuses. Where there is a will, there is a way. The NDLON group represents illegal migrants, most of whom work for very low wages, and none of whom can vote in U.S. elections. Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.) is making the same claim, according to Bloomberg, which reported that he “warned that Democrats would face wrath from voters in the 2022 elections if they don’t secure a citizenship path” But the NDLON claim is being echoed by the politically powerful investor class, who use imported workers, consumers, and renters to spike the value of their Wall Street investments. Todd Schulte is the president of the FWD.us advocacy group for investors, which gets about $30 million a year from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to push for more migration. On Thursday night, he tweeted:   Schulte’s deputy also pushed a hard line:   Unsurprisingly, FWD.us has a hidden agenda in the amnesty debate. The establishment media extensively cover the proposed parole amnesty for 6.5 million illegal migrants. But the media largely ignores  two other proposed changes to immigration laws that would deliver huge benefits to West Coast investors who created the FWD.us advocacy group in 2013. For example, the BBB legislation would allow the White House to provide green cards to millions of favored migrants, including perhaps three million “chain migrants” selected by recent immigrants. This open-doors policy would provide investors with millions of new profit-generating consumers, renters, and workers. The BBB legislation would also allow President Joe Biden’s pro-migration deputies to sell green cards to at least one million migrants who have taken many of the Fortune 500 jobs sought by skilled U.S. college graduates. This change would allow Fortune 500 companies to hire many more foreign graduates with dangled offers of fast-track green cards. These workers are usually imported via the visa worker programs, such as the H-1B and Optional Practical Training program. But those two benefits for the Fortune 500 investors may be dropped if the Democrat senators cannot also get their amnesty for illegal migrants. On Friday, an advocacy group for corporate-funded immigration lawyers urged Congress to keep pushing the green card giveaway, even after the amnesty was nixed:   “The corporate guys are riding on perceived sympathy for the illegal alien population in order to get their immigration giveaways,” said Robert Law, the director of regulatory affairs and policy at the Center for Immigration Studies. He continued: The Hispanic population knows immigration is a pocketbook issue for them as well, and mass illegal immigration — plus legal immigration — hurts the economic opportunities of Hispanic Americans or the black community, or any people who typically are competing at the lower end of the economic spectrum. The Senate’s debate referee has not issued any judgments on the two green card proposals. Zuckerberg’s FWD.us network of coastal investors stands to gain from more cheap labor, government-aided consumers, and urban renters. The network has funded many astroturf campaigns, urged Democrats to not talk about the economic impact of migration, and manipulated coverage by the TV networks and the print media. FWD.us’also spotlights many family dramas amid the inflow of border migrants. This focus helps keep reporters from recognizing the huge pocketbook impact of the establishment’s economic policy of mass migration. The resulting family-drama coverage also keeps many young progressives from noticing that the extraction migration policy drives up their rents and cuts their salaries. The breadth of investors who founded and funded FWD.us was hidden from casual visitors to the group’s website sometime in the last few months. But copies exist at other sites.       Biden’s Chief of Staff Worked on Behalf of Big Tech for Endless H-1B Visas JOHN BINDER Democrat Joe Biden has chosen Ronald Klain to be his chief of staff should he enter the White House in January. Klain worked on behalf of Silicon Valley executives and their interests, which include providing tech corporations with an endless supply of H-1B foreign visa workers and more free trade. Klain, who was made Biden’s incoming chief of staff this week, served on the executive council of TechNet — a firm that promotes the interests of Silicon Valley’s tech corporations in Washington, D.C. Klain served on the council alongside executives from the Oracle Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, Google, Visa, Apple, and Microsoft. TechNet, most recently, joined a lawsuit against President Trump’s reforms to the H-1B visa program that sought to prioritize unemployed Americans for jobs rather than allowing businesses to continue importing foreign workers. There are about 650,000 H-1B visa workers in the U.S. at any given moment. Americans are often laid off and forced to train their foreign replacements, as highlighted by Breitbart News. More than 85,000 Americans annually potentially lose their jobs to foreign labor through the H-1B visa program. Analysis conducted in 2018 discovered that 71 percent of tech workers in Silicon Valley, California, are foreign-born, while the tech industry in the San Francisco, Oakland, and Hayward area is made up of 50 percent foreign-born tech workers. Up to 99 percent of H-1B visa workers imported by the top eight outsourcing firms are from India. TechNet’s listed immigration goals include allowing corporations to dictate the annual level of legal immigration to the United States and the elimination of per-country caps that would effectively let India and China monopolize the U.S. green card system. The group’s goals on trade are in direct opposition to President Trump’s economic nationalist agenda that has imposed tariffs on foreign imports from China, Canada, Europe, and other parts of the globe. TechNet’s trade goals include reducing “tariff and non-tariff barriers to information, communications, and advanced energy technology products, services, and investments” as well as “protections for the free flow of data across borders…” While Biden has vowed to flood the U.S. labor market with more foreign workers to compete against Americans for jobs, he has shied away from questions on whether he will eliminate tariffs on foreign imports that were imposed by Trump. Such elimination of tariffs would be a boon to multinational corporations that offshore their production and jobs overseas only to import their products back into the U.S. market, often with no penalties for doing so.
