The Justice Department has blocked a new law in Texas requiring voters to show a photo ID, saying that it disproportionately harms Hispanic residents.The action is the second time in three months that the Obama administration has blocked a state voter ID law. In December, the Justice Department struck down South Carolina’s new law requiring photo identification at the polls, saying it discriminated against minority voters.
In the case of South Carolina, officials said the South Carolina law adversely affected African American voters. In Texas, the law, signed last year by Gov. Rick Perry (R), discriminates against Hispanics, the Justice Department said.
“Even using the data most favorable to the state, Hispanics disproportionately lack either a driver’s license or a personal identification card,” wrote Thomas Perez, head of the Justice Department’s civil rights division, in a letter to Keith Ingram, director of elections for the Texas Secretary of State.
The Justice Department’s challenge signals an escalating national legal battle over voter ID laws as the presidential campaign intensifies. Eight states passed voter ID laws last year, and critics say the new statutes could hurt turnout among minorities and others who helped elect President Obama in 2008. But conservative supporters and Republican attorneys general say the tight laws are needed to combat voter fraud.
The Justice Department has blocked both the South Carolina and Texas voter ID laws under Section 5 of the historic 1965 Voting Rights Act. The provision requires 16 states or parts of states with a history of discrimination to get federal approval of any changes to their voting laws.
Attorney General Eric Holder said unfair voting laws are a priority issue for his Justice Department.
“The reality is that — in jurisdictions across the country — both overt and subtle forms of discrimination remain all too common and have not yet been relegated to the pages of history,” Holder said in one recent speech.
The Justice Department’s actions are not final. Both South Carolina and Texas have filed lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Washington to be allowed to enforce their new voting laws.

Casting a shadow on
economic recovery efforts in the United States is the cost of illegal
immigration that consumes U.S. taxpayer dollars for education, healthcare,
social welfare benefits, and criminal justice. Illegal aliens (or more
politically correct, “undocumented immigrants”) with ties to Mexican drug
cartels are contributing to death and destruction on U.S. lands along the
southern border.
While the declining job market in the United States may be discouraging some would-be border crossers, a flow of illegal aliens continues unabated, with many entering the United States as drug-smuggling “mules.”
Increasingly vicious foot soldiers of the Mexican drug cartels are taking control of U.S. lands along the border, especially since U.S. Border Patrol units have been reassigned, some to offices 60 to 80 miles inland.
The U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) early last year posted signs warning citizens to avoid Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, Ariz., because of criminal activity in the area, an area that includes protected natural areas precious to the nation.
In reaction to public outrage over the signs, the BLM removed the offensive wording in October 2010, replacing it with the following: Visitor Information Update—Active Federal Law Enforcement Patrol Area.
As the liberal news media, far-left Democrats, and labor unions push for the “Hispanicazation” of U.S. culture, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the U.S. border has never been more secure.
Perhaps she is basing this on the reduced number of apprehensions, which result, of course, from reassigning Border Patrol agents inland.
In a recent New York Times article, Nicholas Kristof criticized U.S. citizens for not speaking a foreign language and suggested that “Every child in the United States should learn Spanish.” He concluded that as the United States increasingly integrates economically with Latin America, Spanish will be crucial for the United States.
For decades, the liberal left has argued that Latin America is essential for U.S. business and trade. Kristof states that Latin America “is finally getting its act together” but fails to mention the Obama administration’s $2 billion loan of U.S. taxpayer money in 2009 to Brazil’s Petrobras oil company for deep off-shore oil drilling. Obama confidant George Soros, through the Soros Fund Management LLC, until recently owned millions of dollars of Petrobras stock.
Kristof suggests that one day Spanish-speaking Americans will be part of daily life in the United States and that workmen such as mechanics will be able to communicate easily with Spanish-speaking customers.
He fails to explain why these customers will not be speaking English. After all, the ability to speak, read, and write English remains a requirement for U.S. citizenship.

Many officials, including the governors of Texas and Arizona, are skeptical regarding the Obama administration’s resolve. They resent that the United States is being blamed for the killing fields on both sides of the Mexico-U.S. Border.
For instance, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in March 2009, during her first official visit to Mexico, placed the blame for the Mexican drug cartels’ vicious murders on the United States.

Many national forests, parks, monuments, wilderness areas, and wildlife refuges — once the pride of the nation — are serving today as marijuana fields for illegal alien gangs.
Former Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi reportedly said to a gathering of illegal aliens in California in 2009 that U.S. immigration laws were “un-American,” suggesting that they need not be obeyed. Concerned citizens can only trust that the new speaker of the House, John Boehner, as part of congressional oversight of federal agencies, will demand enforcement of existing immigration laws.

Labor Secretary Pledges Help For Illegal Workers

Two months after the
Department of Labor launched a special program to assist and protect illegal
immigrants in the U.S. the Obama cabinet official who heads the agency is
personally encouraging undocumented workers to report employers that don’t pay
them fairly.
In a Spanish-language
public service announcement, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis
assures that “every worker in America has a right to be paid fairly, whether
documented or not.” Illegal aliens who are not getting fair wages are
encouraged to call a new hotline set up by the agency on a new “Podemos Ayudar” (We
Can Help) web page designed to administer worker protection laws and ensure
that employees are properly paid “regardless of immigration status.”
In the short video,
also posted in English, Solis tells illegal immigrants that it’s a “serious
problem” when workers in this country are not paid fairly and that all workers
have the right to receive their salary regardless of immigration status. She
encourages those who are not to call the new hotline and assures it’s free and
confidential. “Podemos ayudar,” (we can help), Solis guarantees at the end of
the brief segment.
The Labor Secretary’s
new message is part of a campaign launched a few months ago to help illegal
immigrant workers in the U.S., who she refers to as “vulnerable” and “underpaid.” At least 1,000 new field investigators have been deployed
to reach out to Latino laborers in areas with large numbers of illegal alien
employees and the agency will focus on enforcing labor and wage laws in
industries that typically hire lots of illegal aliens without reporting anyone
to federal immigration authorities.
For a government
agency to protect law breakers in this fashion may seem unbelievable but not if
you consider the source. A Former California congresswoman, Solis has close
ties to the influential La Raza movement that advocates open borders and rights
for illegal immigrants. She made the protection of undocumented workers a major
priority upon being named Labor Secretary, assuring illegal aliens that “if you
work in this country, you are protected by our laws.”

interested, that is 250 illegal alien child molesters. And that is just the tip
of the iceberg.
When we talk about the
costs to secure our borders, we need to ask "How many crimes against
children is acceptable collateral damage?" Isn't that what it is all
about? Cheap lettuce versus molested, raped and murdered children - a
cost/benefit tradeoff.
Occasionally, the
Federal Government decides to actually do something about some of the more
violent illegal alien criminals - after they are already here and have
committed mayhem! Operation Predator evolved out of ICE's mission to find and deport illegal aliens
with the more heinous criminal records. The majority of the arrests under
Operation Predator - roughly 85% - involved foreign nationals in this country
whose child sex crimes made them removable from the United States. By matching
immigration databases with state Megan's law directories, ICE agents have
arrested more than 1,800 registered sex offenders.
Digressing for a moment,
what the hell was a convicted, illegal alien sex offender even doing out of
jail or not immediately deported – even if 63% do come right back - let alone
roaming around the neighborhoods while on a registry! Has the judicial system
in this country gone insane?
In any case, Operation
Predator began on July 9, 2003, and resulted in 6,085 child predator arrests
throughout the country - an average of roughly 250 arrests per month and eight
arrests per day. While arrests have been made in every state, the most have
occurred in these states: Arizona (207), California (1,578), Florida (255),
Illinois (282), Michigan (153), Minnesota (190), New Jersey (423), New York
(367), Oregon (148) and Texas (545).
While Operation Predator
was a noble effort and ICE is to be commended, it only made a small dent in the
criminal activity and number of horrific crimes being committed by illegal
alien child sexual predators.
It is worth noting that
some pedophile
statistics report that each pedophile molests average of
148 children. If so, that could be as many as 900,580 victims from just the
6,085 illegal alien predators that were caught. Regardless, how many children
being molested is acceptable collateral damage?
In fact, the criminal
activity in the illegal alien community is now so bad that illegal
aliens are being held for ransom and as slaves by other illegal aliens and smugglers are kidnapping illegal
aliens from other smugglers! Then there is the fast growing "sex

crimes on a national basis and these are just the tip of the iceberg.
While it is a fact that
most illegal aliens are law abiding, except for breaking immigration laws, it
is also a fact that a significant percentage of illegal aliens have no respect
for the rule of law and our legal customs. Many come with anti-American attitudes
and philosophies that are totally alien to our culture, a subject addressed
later in this paper. The end result is an ever-growing lawlessness among large
portions of the illegal alien communities. It only makes sense that illegal
alien criminals come to the United States - this is where the money is and our
jails are a whole lot nicer than what they have in their home countries.
As previously noted,
this report does not go into the property crimes being committed by illegal
aliens. However, like the activities of other equal opportunity criminals, many
property crimes are drug related, an activity that many illegal aliens,
especially illegal alien gangs, are involved in. While violent crimes against
one's person are the most serious, if your identity or car is stolen by an
illegal alien you won't be too happy about it.
As a small example of
property crimes, in 2003, according to the Arizona Department of Motor
Vehicles, 57,600 cars were stolen in Phoenix alone. The owner losses are
estimated to exceed $864 million. Most of the stolen cars ended up in Mexico
and were never recovered. How many of those cars were stolen by illegal alien
criminals versus resident criminals is unknown but you can rest assured that
illegal aliens had a large part of it..
