Islamic terror attacks that target Christians in Turkey are not uncommon. Around Christmas of 2011, a large-scale al-Qaeda plot to bomb “all the churches in Ankara” was exposed.Right before Christmas 2015, ISIS issued death threats, including “upsetting videos and pictures,” to at least 20 Protestant churches, and warned that “Koranic commandments… urge us to slay the apostate like you.”
More spectacularly, a gunman dressed as Santa Claus entered a nightclub in Istanbul during New Year celebrations, 2017, and massacred 39 people. A “heroic soldier of the caliphate,” the Islamic State (“ISIS”) later claimed, “attacked the most famous nightclub where Christians were celebrating their pagan feast.” The statement further characterized the government of Turkey as being the “servant of the cross.”
What to make of this? Are attacks on Christians limited to clandestine terrorist organizations operating in Turkey, a nation which otherwise behaves as a “servant of the cross”?
In fact, hate for Christians in once secular Turkey has come to permeate every segment of society—from the average Muslim citizen to the highest levels of government. The examples are many; a few follow.
In late 2019, a Muslim boy, aged 16, stabbed a Korean Christian evangelist in the heart several times; the 41-year-old husband and father died shortly thereafter. Months earlier, an “86-year-old Greek man was found murdered in his home with his hands and feet tied”; he was reportedly “tortured.”
Before that, an 85-year-old Armenian woman was stabbed to death in her Istanbul apartment. Lest anyone mistake the motive, her murderer carved a crucifix on her naked corpse. According to the report, that “attack marks the fifth in the past two months against elderly Armenian women (one has lost an eye).”
Perhaps most notoriously, in 2009, a group of young Turks—including the son of a mayor—broke into a Bible publishing house in Malatya. They bound, sadistically tortured for hours, and eventually slaughtered its three Christian employees. “We didn’t do this for ourselves, but for our religion,” one of the accused later said. “Let this be a lesson to enemies of our religion.” They were all later released from prison on a technicality.
Much more common than the targeted killing of Christians—but no less representative of the hate—are church related attacks. Most recently, on May 8, 2020, a man tried to torch a church in Istanbul; the church had been repeatedly attacked previously, including with hate-filled graffiti.
Similarly, when a man opened fire on the Saint Maria Catholic Church in Trabzon in 2018, it was just the latest in several attacks on that church. Weeks earlier, a makeshift bomb was thrown at its garden; in 2016 Muslims crying “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is greater) vandalized the church, including with sledgehammers; in 2011 the church was targeted and threatened for its visible cross; and in 2006 its priest, Andrea Santoro, was shot dead while conducting church service.
Also while shouting “Allahu Akbar” and “Revenge will be taken for Al-Aqsa Mosque,” another Muslim man hurled a Molotov cocktail at another church, Istanbul’s Aya Triada Orthodox Church, partially setting it on fire. In another incident, four Turks banged and kicked at the door of Agape Church in the Black Sea region—again while shouting “Allahu Akbar!” According to the holed up pastor, they wanted “to go inside and hit someone or attack in some other way.”
The growing brazenness of such attacks was on full display when a random gang of Muslims disrupted a baptismal church service in Istanbul. They pushed their way into the church, yelling obscenities; one menacingly waved a knife at those in attendance. “It’s not the first, and it won’t be the last,” a local Christian responded.
Threatening and/or defacing churches is especially common. In late 2019, while shouting abuses and physical threats against Christians gathered at the Church of St. Paul in Antalya, a man said he “would take great pleasure in destroying the Christians, as he viewed them as a type of parasitism on Turkey.”
In early 2019, hate-filled and threatening graffiti—including “You Are Finished!”—was found on the Armenian Church of the Holy Mother of God in Istanbul. Commenting on it, an Armenian activist tweeted, “Every year, scores of hate attacks are being carried out against churches and synagogues.”
One of the most alarming instances occurred in 2015: as many as 15 churches received death threats for “denying Allah.” “Perverted infidels,” one threat read, “the time that we will strike your necks is soon. May Allah receive the glory and the praise.” “Threats are not anything new for the Protestant community who live in this country and want to raise their children here,” church leaders commented.
Rather than threaten or attack churches, Turkish authorities have the power to simply confiscate or close them (here, here, and here, for examples). In one instance, police, not unlike the aforementioned thugs, interrupted a baptismal ceremony while raiding and subsequently shutting down an unauthorized church. “Turkey does not have a pathway for legalization of churches,” the report explained.
Other tactics are resorted to when no pretexts can be found. For example, in an apparent attempt to conceal the online presence of at least one church, authorities labeled it “pornographic,” and blocked it. The ban was “horrible,” responded a church representative. “It’s a shame. It really pains us at having this kind of accusation when we have a high moral standard.”
Even ancient churches that predate Islam by centuries—including Stoudios monastery, the oldest Christian place of worship in Asia Minor, founded a millennium before its Islamic conquest in the fourteenth century—are being transformed into mosques. After explaining how the Turkish government built nearly 9,000 mosques over one decade, while banning liturgy in the Sumela monastery—another historic site inaugurated in 386, about a 1,000 years before Asia Minor became “Turkey”—a report adds, “This arbitrary ban seems to be yet another demonstration of the ‘unofficial’ second-class status of Christians in Turkey.”
Hate for Christians in Turkey has reached the point that it pursues these “infidels” beyond the grave: attacks on Christian cemeteries are on the rise, prompting one frustrated Christian to ask: “Is it now the turn of our deceased?” According to a March, 2020 report, 20 of 72 gravestones in just one Christian cemetery in Ankara were found destroyed. In another recent instance, the desecraters broke a cross off a deceased women’s grave; days earlier, her church burial service was interrupted by cries of “Allahu Akbar!”
What is behind all these attacks on anything and everything Christian—people, buildings, even graves? An “environment of hate” was the recent response of a journalist in Turkey:
But this hateful environment did not emerge out of nowhere. The seeds of this hatred are spread, beginning at primary schools, through books printed by the Ministry of National Education portraying Christians as enemies and traitors. The indoctrination continues through newspapers and television channels in line with state policies. And of course, the sermons at mosques and talk at coffee houses further stir up this hatred.
In other words, once “secular,” Turks are now born and bred on hating Christians.
Interestingly, even this is not enough to prevent ISIS from accusing Turkey of being a “servant of the cross,” which prompts an important question: Just what, exactly, do so-called “radical” Muslims—between 63 and 287 million Muslims in just eleven polled nations support ISIS—deem as the “proper” treatment of Christians?

There is considerable evidence of Leftist/Islamic collaboration in the recent riots, and one Islamic scholar has called openly for more bloodshed. This should be, but probably won’t be, a matter of concern for intelligence and law enforcement officials, because this imam is not in Tehran or Lahore or Kabul: he is in Philadelphia.
The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reports that on June 2, an Islamic scholar in the City of Brotherly Love, Nafis Abu Zayd Sparrow, uploaded a video to the Maktabah Ibn Taymiyyah YouTube channel in which he dismisses peaceful protests on Islamic grounds: “Even scholars of the past, they mention clearly that there is nothing found – no basis whatsoever – in the Quran or the Sunnah for demonstrations or protests.”
Sparrow mocked the Twitter wars and meme-making that characterize our current silly civil war: “When Allah told [Moses] to go back to deal with this tyrannical ruler, to deal with this tyrannical system – did He tell him to spit in their faces? Did He tell him to stand outside and do public demonstrations? Did He tell him to behave a certain way – to clown the President, make up all types of memes, say this about the president because it is the way you feel? Did He say to do all of that, and talk bad about Pharaoh?...So all of this Tweeting, speaking, celebrities – don’t follow them. ‘F Trump,’ that sounds good… Don’t follow them.”
What to do instead? Wage violent jihad: “To get freedom, brothers, it takes fighting, I’m sorry, unless you have got divine intervention….Moses didn’t need an army to fight. But go to Muhammad. Didn’t Muhammad have to fight? Go to all the prophets before – get your verses at the verses – did they not have to fight?”
Indeed, the Qur’an tells Muslims: “Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.” (2:216) Most Western counterterror analysts don’t know that this verse and others like it exist, or prefer to ignore the fact. But Nafis Abu Zayd Sparrow knows what the Qur’an says, and he expects his followers to obey its commands.
“I challenge you,” he says to them in the video, “show me where your power to vote ever changed anything. ‘Oh, we got Obama into office’ – and what did Obama do? Show me! People are not listening. We, as Muslims, have to use our insight. Show me!... I am saying that if you want to separate from the racism, from those people that are embedded with racism – then you have to remove yourself from the system itself and you have to create your system within the system.”
Hmmm. Maybe something like an Autonomous Zone?
Sparrow expressed impatience for the white Leftists who co-opted the George Floyd protests: “And you have to become a formidable foe. And since we are not going to do that, we have yet to do that, and we have not shown to do that – then can you please stop with these senseless causing-more-harm-than-benefit demonstrations and being somebody’s guinea pig. That’s what I mean – a public demonstration within a public demonstration. They set you up and they put you there and use your call, your outcry and your outrage to make their own agenda. Then they bring other people, anarchists, Antifa, whatever you want to call them – different people came out and they all exploited the George Floyd situation.”
The alternative? Blood: “But if you truly want to stand up then it’s going to take some real fighting, and that is what Malcolm X was saying. It’s going to take some blood-shedding – that is what Malcolm X was saying. Because revolution is land and that is what it is about. You are fighting for land. That is what you are fighting for. And if you really want that, that is what you are going to have to do. Power respects power.”
What’s more, “We have a protocol in Islam already for how this is supposed to be done,” and this would apparently involve demanding a Sharia enclave: “You gave Chinatown [sic] a Chinatown. You gave the Jews a whole police state in New York – think about it. All these other different minorities – you gave them things that they can do within their respective lands – you just didn’t give it to the indigenous black person.”
Sparrow exhorted his audience: “Where are you on the frontline? What skill are you utilizing to put forth to fight against this oppressive regime? You are not even talking about that. You haven’t… You are probably out of shape. You haven’t even put yourself in shape. You are probably not ready for any form of Jihad – period.”
With Sharia enclaves in many European cities and Antifa enclaves now in Seattle and springing up in other American cities as well, law enforcement and intelligence officials would be wise to take Sparrow’s words seriously. But that is about as likely as Nancy Pelosi endorsing Trump and becoming his Vice Presidential candidate. Sparrow’s words will almost certainly not lead to any investigation. That would be “Islamophobic.”

Because more numbers equate more power and influence, Muslims from
all walks of life—including Muammar Gaddafi—have made
clear that the act of procreating is a form of jihad. Thus,
in the U.K., “Muslim hate fanatics plan to take over Britain by having
more babies and forcing a population explosion,” a report revealed back in
2008: “The swollen Muslim population would be enough to conquer Britain
from inside.”
A Christian Eritrean volunteer and translator who worked in
migrant centers in Germany, and was often assumed to be Muslim by the
migrants, confessed that “Muslim
migrants often confide in her and tell her about their dislike towards
Christians,” and that “a number of the Muslim migrants she has spoken to have
revealed a hatred for Christians and are determined to destroy the
religion.” As to how they plan on accomplishing this, “Some women
told me, ‘We will multiply our numbers. We must have more children than the
Christians because it’s the only way we can destroy them here.’”
There is, however, an even more sinister and largely unknown way
of prosecuting this “procreation” jihad—a way of killing two birds with one
stone: seize and seed non-Muslim women with Muslim babies. Doing so depletes
the infidels’ ranks of women and the non-Muslim babies they might have birthed,
while simultaneously increasing both for Islam.
As the aforementioned procreation jihad account from Germany might
suggest—where female Muslim migrants “revealed a hatred for Christians and are
determined to destroy the religion”—Christians are especially being targeted in
this manner.
In Nigeria, for instance, which is roughly half Muslim, half
Christian, thousands of Christian girls have been abducted, forced into Islam,
married off and transformed into incubators of future jihadis. Put
differently, the nearly three hundred Christian Chibok girls who made headlines in 2015—some of whom
were brainwashed to “cut the throats of Christians—are
the tip of the iceberg. As the Hausa Christian Foundation of Nigeria, a
human rights group, recently explained:
The case of abducting Christian Girls and their forceful
conversion to Islam as well as forcing them into marriage has become a water
shed issue in Northern Nigeria…. The moment these girls are abducted,
they are subjected to all manners of evil just to take control of their minds.
Once they took hold of their minds, these girls will only do everything they
are asked to do. While the parents fight for the release of their daughters,
these abductors continue to sexually abuse these girls, hypnotized [subliminally
influenced] their food, drinks, clothes, where they sleep, perpetually evoke
evil spirit upon them to the point that these girls completely lost their minds
and never think of going back to their home. Usually, the moment a Christian
girl is abducted they ensure that they get married to her within one or two
weeks. She will be sexually abused even before the marriage to make the parents
give up on her when she becomes pregnant.
The incessant kidnapping of the Christian girls and the forceful
conversion to Islam is another form of Jihad in the 21st Century. They have two
major aims for doing that: To inflict pain on the parents of the girl and the
Christian community; and to impregnate the girl to add to their claims that
Islam is the fasted growing religion in the world. They are doing it on
purpose.
The statement went on by sarcastically “wondering” how unclean
“infidels [kidnapped Christians] can be used to advance such a holy and clean
religion like Islam…. But we know what the religion is all about.
Everything is welcome no matter how evil and inhumane, as long as it will help
Allah, especially the killings, the attacking, kidnapping, raping and enslaving
of Christians.”
The same phenomenon prevails wherever Christian minorities live
alongside Muslims. In Egypt, countless Christian girls have been abducted
for the very same reason—to bring them into the fold of Islam, diminish the
numbers of the infidels, and increase that of the Muslims. The schemes
often take elaborate and complex forms. Most recently, an unknown woman
posing as a Coptic nun, along with an unknown man posing as her monk assistant,
were exposed by the Coptic pope
as frauds that were using their religious garb to get near and win the trust of
young Christian girls.
In 2017, an ex-kidnapper, who “admits he was in a network
actively targeting Coptic girls for years before he left Islam,” explained the systematic and
sophisticated process in Egypt:
A group of kidnappers meets in a mosque to discuss potential
victims. They keep a close eye on Christians’ houses and monitor everything
that’s going on. On that basis, they weave a spider’s web around [the girls]….
I remember a Coptic Christian girl from a rich, well-known family in Minya. She
was kidnapped by five Muslim men. They held her in a house, stripped her and
filmed her naked. In the video, one of them also undressed. They threatened to
make the video public if the girl wouldn’t marry him…. The kidnappers
receive large amounts of money. Police can help them in different ways, and
when they do, they might also receive a part of the financial reward the
kidnappers are paid by the Islamisation organisations. In some cases, police
provide the kidnappers with drugs they seize. The drugs are then given to the
girls to weaken their resistance as they put them under pressure. I even know
of cases in which police offered help to beat up the girls to make them recite
the Islamic creed. And the value of the reward increases whenever the
girl has a position. For example, when she is the daughter of a priest or comes
from a well-known family…. The Salafist group I knew rented apartments in
different areas of Egypt to hide kidnapped Coptic. There, they put them
under pressure and threaten them to convert to Islam. And once they reach the
legal age, a specially arranged Islamic representative comes in to make the
conversion official, issue a certificate and accordingly they change their
ID…. If all goes to plan, the girls are also forced into marriage with a
strict Muslim. Their husbands don’t love them, they just marry her to make her
a Muslim. She will be hit and humiliated. And if she tries to escape, or
convert back to her original religion, she will be killed.
Although such networks have been around since the 1970s, they
reached their “highest levels now, in the era of President Sisi,” the former
kidnapper added.
In Pakistan—another Muslim majority nation where the kidnap, rape,
and forced conversion of Christian girls is endemic—the Asian Human Rights
Commission said this in a 2011 report:
The situation is worse with the police who always side with the
Islamic groups and treat minority groups as lowly life forms. The dark side of
the forced conversion to Islam … also involves the criminal elements who are
engaged in rape and abduction and then justify their heinous crimes by forcing
the victims to convert to Islam. The Muslim fundamentalists are happy to offer
these criminals shelter and use the excuse that they are providing a great
service to their sacred cause of increasing the population of Muslims.
Even in Indonesia—once known as the quintessential “moderate
Muslim” nation—last year a report found that “a new form of
persecution is on the rise—Christian girls are being targeted by Muslim
men… Influential leaders are literally training young men to target
Christian girls to impregnate them.” The report continues:
They target them to try and sort of diffuse the spread of
Christianity because the family of the Christian girl is so ashamed [of the
impregnation] … they’re forced into marrying that daughter into a Muslim
family…. and the Muslims who are being trained to do this, they understand
that. That’s why they’re doing that…. Once girls are married into the
Muslim families, they’re often cut off from or abandoned by their families and
they face even more difficult circumstances. In some cases, girls are the
second or third wife of their persecutor and they have few freedoms.
