Cotton: ‘Secretary Mayorkas Is Plainly in Over His Head’
On Monday’s broadcast of FNC’s “Fox & Friends,” Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) hammered the Biden administration, specifically Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, for the handling of the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Cotton said that given FEMA was deployed to the region, it was a signal the situation was “at least” an emergency.
“Yes, they also sent FEMA. In case anyone has forgotten, the ‘E’ in FEMA stands for ‘Emergency,'” he said. “So I guess you could at least call it an emergency. But yes, it’s a total disaster. You heard Griff’s report that now they may be releasing people into the country without so much as a court date.”
“And I know that Joe Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have been claiming that oh, Donald Trump dismantled our immigration system,” Cotton continued. “No, it’s Joe Biden that dismantled the effective policies that had closed our border, allowing migrants to stay in Mexico while they process asylum claims or forcing them to make asylum claims — not in the United States, their country of choice, but the first country they passed through when they left their own country. Places like Guatemala.”
“Now, they claim that some of these countries — oh, they’re too violent,” he added. “We can’t possibly expect them to stay there — seek asylum there. Baltimore has a higher murder rate than most of these countries in the Central American Northern Triangle. So why should we expect that migrants have a right to come to our country to escape the so-called high violence there when Baltimore and other cities in America have higher murder rates than some of these countries in Central America?”
The Arkansas Republican described Mayorkas as “in over his head” and criticized Mayorkas for barring the press.
“Secretary Mayorkas is plainly in over his head,” Cotton explained. “And no matter how many TV interviews he does from Washington, while he won’t let press travel with him to the border, or how many bumbling statements Joe Biden says over helicopter engines that you shouldn’t come now — remember, that’s the critical word,” Cotton explained. “They’re not saying don’t come, just don’t come now. Actions speak louder than words.”
“And when thousands of migrants get from Central America to our border, and they get released in our country, and they send text messages back and post on social media hey, you can all come up now, the border’s open, guess what?” he continued. “People are going to come because if you let them in, more will come. The simple policy changes, again, would be applying the pandemic exclusion order to all migrants — not exempting minors. That’s what Joe Biden did. Not surprisingly, we got a lot more minors. Second, requiring so-called asylum seekers to seek asylum in the first country for which they pass, especially Guatemala, since they must pass through Guatemala from all points to the south. Donald Trump had that in effect; Joe Biden tore it up.”
“And then finally, if those asylum seekers get to our southern border, requiring them to remain in Mexico rather than releasing them into the country or with a court date — or now, without a court date at all,” Cotton added. “Those three policies could be reinstituted this week and they would immediately stop this border crisis, but Joe Biden refuses to do so.”
Photos: Migrants Fly ‘Biden for President 2020’ Flag in Mexico While Awaiting U.S. Entry
Hundreds of migrants are waiting in an encampment in Tijuana, Mexico, until they can be processed and potentially released into the United States interior by President Joe Biden’s administration.
Photos captured of the encampment show a “Biden for President 2020” flag waving as migrants stay huddled in tents. The photos show the scale to which migrants are sitting in close range to the U.S.-Mexico border in the hopes of being released into the U.S. interior.
The Biden administration, as Breitbart News exclusively reported, has ordered federal immigration officials to quickly release border crossers into the U.S. interior without going through standard protocols such as notifying an immigration court or issuing the border crossers a Notice to Appear for which they would have to show up in court.
Simultaneously, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed to lawmakers last week the agency has released border crossers into the U.S. interior without testing them for coronavirus.
The expansive Catch and Release process, implemented by the Biden administration, has coincided with skyrocketing illegal immigration levels.
Federal immigration officials apprehended almost 100,000 border crossers in February, an increase of 170 percent compared to the same time last year. The total number of illegal aliens who successfully crossed the border, undetected, since October 2020 has surpassed 118,000, Breitbart News exclusively reported.

Biden's Border Crisis is as Unexpected as Offering Free Beer and Having Drunks Show Up
Surprising. Unexpected. Caught off guard.
Those are some of the terms that the Democrat media is using to describe the border crisis. None of those terms apply.
Illegal migration, like all immigration, is a matter of supply and demand. What the United States supply offers in this arrangement is obvious. Increasing enforcement can spur illegal migration by those rushing to get in under the wire. That happened in the Trump era. But enforcement can then deter the surge. But permissiveness after a period of enforcement creates a tremendous surge. Especially when combined with promises of amnesty.
So there's nothing unexpected here.
Biden and the Democrats campaigned on amnesty for illegal aliens, for ending restrictions in asylum requests, and for treating underage migrants. e.g. 'unaccompanied children', and their traffickers differently.
A whole bunch of illegal aliens, asylum requests, and allegedly underage migrants showing up is the least surprising thing ever.
It's like offering free beer and being surprised when your living room and patio are full of drunks by the morning.
The media is dealing with the bad polling on the border crisis by digging up its old trope from the Obama era of pretending that its pet politicians are surprised by the rise of ISIS, yet another surge of illegal aliens in response to DACA, or the rising number of crimes in response to decriminalization.
This is spin. And nothing more.
The surge of illegal aliens is a political inconvenience. Republican open borders guys like Senator Lindsey Graham can't join an immigration sellout if there's a crisis. And he's said as much. Even Romney and Collins might find it a little awkward. That and their old sales pitch that Latinos won't vote for Republicans without amnesty fell apart in the Trump era when he scored more Latino votes than Romney did while running on immigration enforcement.
RINOs need the border crisis to go away so they can sell out. Democrats need it to die down a little so they can focus on their agenda items. But illegal aliens have no reason to stop. And considering the SuperDACA incentives, they have every reason to keep sending underage or allegedly underage migrants our way, while our enforcement system collapses. Supply and demand. The Democrats don't really care much. Every illegal who gets over the board is a political boon to their plans to flip Texas and other states.
But they have to pretend to care. And be shocked at all the illegals showing up at their open border.
Joe Biden: ‘At Some Point I Will’ Visit the Border
President Joe Biden told reporters Sunday he would visit the Southern border “at some point,” appearing unwilling to commit to the idea soon.
“At some point, I will, yes,” Biden replied when a reporter asked if he would visit the border.
Biden spoke to reporters as he returned from his weekend trip to Camp David.
When asked if he would visit some of the detention facilities for migrants personally, Biden replied, “I know what’s going on in those facilities.”
One reporter asked Biden why his message urging migrants not to come from the United States was not working.
Biden said he and his administration were working to handle the dramatic surge at the border.
“We are in the process of doing it now including making sure we re-establish what existed before, which is they can stay in place and make their case from their home countries,” he said.
The Department of Health and Human Services is housing nearly 10,500 unaccompanied minors in emergency facilities and about 5,000 in custody at a Customs and Border Protection facility, according to a Saturday CBS News report.
In an interview Wednesday, Biden advised migrants not to come to the U.S. border, but his administration has struggled with mixed messaging on the issue.
EXCLUSIVE: @GStephanopoulos presses Pres. Biden on the border crisis.
"Do you have to say quite clearly, 'Don't come'?
Biden: "Yes, I can say quite clearly: Don't come over…Don’t leave your town or city or community." https://t.co/zFJaRXjCI8 pic.twitter.com/osZKR64ypq

“Yes, I can say quite clearly: Don’t come over,” he said. “We’re in the process of getting set up.”
Biden has refused to admit the crisis on the border is an actual crisis, as more migrants flood to the border.
“We’ll be able to handle it,” he replied to reporters at the White House on March 2. “God willing.”
