Jussie Smollett, the C-list actor best known for his role as Terry Hall in The Mighty Ducks, is finally on trial in Chicago for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself in January 2019. He is charged with counts of felony disorderly conduct for lying to police about the phony attack, which was widely and credulously "condemned" by Democratic politicians, journalists, celebrities, and other liberals. Hardly any have bothered to amend their statements or even remove their initial reactions from social media platforms.

The following is a (non-exhaustive) list of all the libs who immediately believed Smollett's absurd story about being recognized by two white guys in Make America Great Again hats. According to Smollett, his "attackers" had been wandering the streets of Chicago in below-freezing conditions at 2 a.m. carrying bleach and a noose with the intention of assaulting an obscure celebrity. In fact, the white guys in MAGA hats were Nigerian brothers who told police that Smollett paid them $3,500 to stage the attack.

L.A. Black Lives Matter Calls Jussie Smollett Trial a ‘White Supremacist Charade’: ‘Never Believe Police’

The leader of the Los Angeles Black Lives Matter is standing in solidarity with accused race hoaxer Jussie Smollett in a trial the BLM leader claims is a “white supremacist charade.”

L.A. BLM leader Melina Abdullah, a former CSU professor and rabid defund the police activist, praised the former Empire actor for his “courage” as he stands trial in Chicago for allegedly perpetrating a fake hate crime.

Abdullah railed against the trial in Chicago in her statement, claimed that the American justice system is “white supremacist,” and insisted it is an example of the “corrupt systems are working to devalue [black] lives.”

“In an abolitionist society, this trial would not be taking place, and our communities would not have to fight and suffer to prove our worth,” Abdullah exclaimed. “Instead, we find ourselves once again being forced to put our lives and our value in the hands of judges and juries operating in a system that is designed to oppress us, while continuing to face a corrupt and violent police department who has proven time and again to have no respect for our lives.”

“In our commitment to abolition, we can never believe police, especially the Chicago Police Department (CPD) over Jussie Smollett, a Black man who has been courageously present, visible, and vocal in the struggle for Black freedom,” the extremist continued.

Abdullah added that “policing at-large is an irredeemable institution,” and attacked the Chicago Police Department for its history of civil rights abuses.

“Black Lives Matter will continue to work towards the abolition of police and every unjust system,” Abdullah concluded. “We will continue to love and protect one another and wrap our arms around those who do the work to usher in Black freedom and, by extension, freedom for everyone else.”

Chicago prosecutors have charged the 39-year-old actor with six counts of felony disorderly conduct for lying to the police and filing three false police reports about an attack he said he suffered in Jan. of 2019.

Jussie Smollett took the stand in his trial this week and boldly claimed there was “no hoax” and that he didn’t plan the attack against himself. But he also admitted to being intimate friends with the two men that Chicago Police investigators say perpetrated the fake attack on the actor. Smollett also scolded special prosecutor Daniel Webb for reading the actor’s text messages aloud, including multiple uses of the full N-word in open court.

Heather Mac Donald: ‘Savage’ Crimes No Longer Have Consequences — Civilization ‘Breaking Down’ in ‘Slow-Motion’

Heather Mac Donald, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and among the nation’s foremost statisticians of crime, blasted current criminal justice reform policies which signal to criminals that even “appalling, savage” crimes have no consequences, calling the narrative of minorities under threat from police in America a “completely false” one perpetuated by the Biden administration and the media, while warning that “civilization is breaking down” as the country undergoes a “slow-motion riot.”

In an interview with Steve Malzberg on his weekly commentary show Eat the Press, Mac Donald, who is also a New York Times best-selling author, addressed the rise in officers killed this year which exceeded those killed in any other year.

“Anti-Cop Mania”

Asked if the current crime surge is the result of the “post-George Floyd anti-cop mania” fueled by the media, Mac Donald replied, “Of course it is.”

“We are living through a slow-motion riot,” she said.

She then noted the “message” criminals perceive as a result of the lack of repercussions.

“Whether it’s attacks on officers or attacks on property, criminals have gotten the message that there is no consequence for the most appalling savage behavior when they’re going after cops,” she said.

Mac Donald also lamented the “assault[s]” law enforcement experience in the U.S. today.

“I can tell you across the country in the United States today, when cops get out of their car to make an inquiry, to question somebody who’s acting like he’s pulling up his gun out of his waistband, to go into a drug set, they find themselves routinely surrounded by hostile jeering crowds throwing things at them,” she said. “They’re assaulted.”

“This is what it’s like to be a cop in America today,” she added.

Citing how cops “can’t take it any longer” as they are “gunned down and ambushed,” she claimed cops are “leaving the profession in droves” in what she called the “Ferguson effect.”

”Officers are backing off under this phony narrative of racism and criminals are emboldened and they are controlling the streets,” she added. “Civilization is breaking down in this country.”

According to the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), 314 officers have been shot so far this year, with 58 officers killed by gunfire.

Blasting the “false” narrative repeated by the Biden administration and mainstream media that black people “are under threat from the police in this country,” Mac Donald sought to portray the numbers in perspective.

“When you compare the 58 dead officers to the number of officers in the country — which is about 675,000 — and then let’s look at how many unarmed blacks have been fatally shot by a police officer this year: four… of about 40 million blacks,” she said. “That makes a police officer in the United States at least 375 times [more] likely to be killed by a black person in America as an unarmed black is to be killed by a cop.”

Culpability of the Left

Mac Donald blamed the left for depicting crime as fictional.

“The left thinks that crime is a racist fiction,” she said, “[and] that it’s just a creation of the deranged Trumpian imagination.”

Claiming the criminal justice system today is “all about disparate impact,” she warned that safety would not return “unless we confront this conceit head on and completely dismiss it.”

“The reason that prosecutors are not setting bail… that they’re refusing to prosecute theft, shoplifting, resisting arrest, assaults on officers, disorderly conduct, drug dealing… [that] you have police chiefs… telling their officers to back off from ‘stop, question and frisk’ — is because every law enforcement practice has a disparate impact on blacks,” she said.

“That’s not because law enforcement is racist,” she added. “It’s because there is a much, much higher rate of criminal offending among blacks than among whites.”

The reason for the lack of enforcement of the law, according to Mac Donald, is because prosecutors “have decided they don’t want to put more blacks in prison.”

“They don’t want to hold blacks pre-trial even though they’re a clear threat,” she said, calling to “stop doing that and say that ‘no, our criminal justice system is not racist, yes there are more blacks in prison but that is because their homicide rates are like 13 times the rate of whites.’”

“You cannot enforce the law in a colorblind fashion without having a disparate impact on blacks,” she added.

She also slammed the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, which “doesn’t give a damn about the fact that there were over four dozen black children fatally gunned down in drive-by shootings last year.”

The COVID Pandemic as an Excuse

Asked about White House press secretary Jen Psaki’s suggestion last week that the COVID-19 pandemic is “a root cause” of recent organized looting incidents across the country, Mac Donald called it both “hilarious” and “insane.”

“The reason is not COVID, it’s de-policing,” she said. “It’s what I’ve called the ‘Ferguson effect.’”

Claiming “the facts are completely wrong,” Mac Donald noted that “crime was going down in this country in the first part of 2020” and only increased “after the George Floyd riots” and only “in the United States.”

“Every other country in the world that had the lockdowns — that had the insane hysteria — crime went down; violent crime went down,” she explained.

“The United States is the only place to see what we saw last year — which was the largest single percentage increase in history — in this nation’s history — in homicides,” she added. “We’re the only ones that saw it.”

Wisconsin Christmas Parade Attack

On the release of Darrell Brooks on $1,000 bail for allegedly running over the mother of his child in the days leading up to his attack on a Christmas parade in Wisconsin last month, which left six people dead and another 62 injured, Mac Donald claimed it was “the reason that [Milwaukee County District Attorney] John Chisholm — who’s one of the early progressive prosecutors — is not imposing bail.”

“The reason he’s letting criminals out is because of disparate impact,” she added. “He says it.”

Addressing the lack of media coverage of the parade attack and the perpetrator once the latter was identified as a black male, Mac Donald said “America turns its eyes away from inner-city dysfunction.”

“We’re terrified of it,” she added. “We’re terrified it’s not going to end.”

According to Mac Donald, due to “racial equity,” liberal DAs in major cities “don’t want to put more blacks in prison — even if they have assaulted their girlfriend, run over their girlfriend, use guns.”

As a result, she claimed, crime has skyrocketed.

“We’re seeing these hordes looting stores; we’re seeing real domestic terrorism…. not the phony white nationalist kind that is a fiction of… the Biden White House, the Attorney General and the mainstream media,” she said.

Crime Surge

Blasting current policies for producing such spikes in crime, Mac Donald, who is known for her research on the effects of criminal justice reform, argued that law enforcement was the key.

“We [must] say we are going to enforce the law, and the consequences are what they are, and the solution for black crime is to reknit the family, it is not to let criminals out on the streets where they’re going to prey first of all on law-abiding blacks,” she said.

“The solution right now is law enforcement,” she continued. “It’s all we’ve got and the government has its primary responsibility to protect not just life but property.”

“When stores cannot operate and entrepreneurs cannot put their goods into commerce, there is no civilization left,” she added.

Blasting “one excuse after another” for minority crimes, Mac Donald said the “refusal to hold minorities to standards of personal responsibility and respect for the law” is what “breeds” more of it.

“It’s double standards in our society and we are paying the price in our lives,” she said.

“Carjacking’s are out of control — they’re coming to a suburb near you,” she added. “People are being dragged to death as a result of a carjacking.”

She also warned “the thefts are coming” as well.

“These flash mobs are stripping these stores blind but [now] they’re carrying guns,” she said. “And you know who’s going to go to a store — a Best Buy — at this point with the risk of these sorts of mass assaults?”

“And who knows if they will start using their guns?” she concluded.

Mac Donald’s remarks come as the U.S. witnesses a continuing rise in violent crime nationwide.

The statistics cited in a City Journal piece this month describe “the largest rate of increase in homicides recorded in modern history”:

Murder rose 29 percent from 2019 to 2020, surpassing the previous record 12.7 percent spike from 1967 to 1968. Unsurprisingly, the victims of the latest surge in violence were not equally distributed across racial groups. The rise in black homicide victims from 2019 to 2020 was almost twice as big as the rise in white victims (28 percent versus 16 percent).

In October, “Squad” member and Defund the Police sympathizer Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) blamed Minnesota’s crime surge on the “dysfunctional police department” that has “chosen to not fulfill their oath of office.”

Newsom on CA Smash-and-Grabs: ‘Crime Is Higher’ in Texas But You Don’t See That on Fox News

2:02

Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said Wednesday on ABC’s “The View” that Fox News was playing politics by covering the recent increase of smash-and-grab robberies plaguing California.

Co-host Joy Behar said, “California is seeing a wave of smash-and-grab robberies, where mobs ransack retail stores. Your own business has been robbed multiple times in the past year. You have a couple of wine stores, I understand. Critics in law enforcement blame this on your lax bail and theft policies emboldening criminals. Here is your chance to tell us.”

Newsom said, “They couldn’t even identify what they were referring to as it relates to those policies, so that is a lot of rhetoric. That said, it’s unacceptable what is happening. Those images are unacceptable. I can give you facts, and I’m happy to share them, but there are feelings as well. Feelings matter more. Do I feel safe? Do I feel protected? When you see these flash mobs — ”

Behar said, “They’re organized, aren’t they?”

Newsom said, “Very organized. I just want to note we’re calling it out. There’s no excuse. We don’t condone that kind of behavior. We want to arrest and prosecute folks, and we are doing that. We just announced a six-year sentence for an organized ring just last week. There have been prosecutions, and there have been arrests in L.A. and San Francisco. We recognize that we have to do more and better. But it’s not unique to California. You have seen it in Chicago and Minnesota. This is not unique. Property crime has gone up in many, many states, red, not just blue states. Violent crime and property crime, for example is higher in Texas than in California, I don’t see that on Fox News.”

Behar said, “You won’t see that there.”

Newsom said, “There is politics being played here.”

California Safeway Fortifies Store to Address Shoplifting Surge

HONOLULU, HI - AUGUST 22: The parking lot of Safeway on Kapahulu has lines of cars just waiting to get parking due to people attempting to stock up on supplies due to the threat of Hurricane Lane on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Hurricane Lane is a high-end …

A Safeway in San Francisco’s Castro District is taking the law in its own hands by fortifying the outlet to reduce the surge in shoplifting.

“This Safeway is getting weirder and weirder,” a shopper said as he walked through newly installed security gates at the entrance of the store.

The security gates let customers enter the store but shut quickly behind them to prevent people entering to shoplift from dashing past them.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the effort:

Safeway’s move comes after the same market cut its hours in October — now closing at 9 p.m, the earliest of any of the chain’s locations in San Francisco — again due to shoplifting, the store said. It also comes amid fierce public debate over retail theft and property crime in San Francisco, as large chain stores such as Walgreens and Target are closing stores or cutting hours due to alleged increases in theft, and after stores across the Bay Area suffered from a series of high-profile smash-and-grab robberies in November.

Recent analyses of shoplifting data at Walgreens by the Chronicle and SFGate found that existing data doesn’t support the claim that shoplifting was the only factor leading to its store closures, especially since the chain announced before the pandemic that it would be shuttering 19 outlets. The Chronicle also found that San Francisco lacks reliable shoplifting data.

The supermarket also has added barriers around its self-checkout area, funneling customers through only one exit. Checkout aisles that aren’t staffed are blocked with large physical barriers rather than just a cord, and the entire side entrance to the store has been closed and blocked off by a large display of plastic water bottles. Safeway executives said that the new security measures were a response to what it says is increased shoplifting at the locale.

“Like other local businesses, we are working on ways to curtail escalating theft to ensure the wellbeing of our employees and to foster a welcoming environment for our customers. Their safety remains our top priority,” Wendy Gutshall, director of public and government affairs for Safeway’s Northern California Division, said in a statement emailed to the Chronicle. “These long-planned security improvements were implemented with those goals in mind.”

San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman is supervisor in the city whose district includes the Market Street Safeway and he said that theft at the store is “out of control.”

“They are doing it regretfully because it makes for a less enjoyable experience for customers but they feel that they have to,” Mandelman said.

Like other California retailers facing a surge in shoplifting, the store has security guards manning the entrance and exit doors and it keep items like toiletries, candles, and alcohol in locked containers.

On Friday, California attorney general Rob Bonta, who has been criticized for his soft-on-crime policies, announced the sentencing of five individuals involved in organized retail crime aimed at retailers such as CVS, Target and Walgreens in the Bay Area in 2020, according to the Chronicle report.

Woman Charged with Stealing $40K of Merchandise from California Target Out of Jail

A woman who took more than $40,000 in merchandize from a San Francisco Target is out of jail as the city faces an ongoing surge in retail looting and theft.

Aziza Graves is wearing an ankle bracelet and faces 120 misdemeanor counts of petty theft after she scanned dozens of items and made nominal payments  before leaving incomplete transactions.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on the soft on crime treatment given suspects in the state:

The 41 year-old woman was released from jail by a San Francisco Superior Court Judge on Nov. 24, six days after her arraignment. Officials in El Dorado County issued a warrant for Graves over allegations she had trespassed in a casino, but law enforcement declined to pick her up, according to a San Francisco district attorney spokesperson.

As she awaits trial, Graves is a conspicuous figure in an agitated political debate that has fractured San Francisco. In this case the argument is over what’s an effective way to deal with prolific perpetrators of minor crime while many parts of the community are fed up and looking for solutions from city leaders.

The Chronicle covered how the controversial San Francisco District Attorney’s role in the case:

District Attorney Chesa Boudin announced Graves’ arrest on Nov. 17 with a press release and tweet touting the investigation and his office’s Organized Retail Theft Taskforce, which he later said was leading several coordinated efforts to take down fencing operations and halt retail theft in San Francisco. Boudin’s office did not oppose Graves’ release from custody, with a GPS monitor and an order to stay away from Target stores.

Shortly after taking office in 2020, Boudin put in place the policy to let people out of jail while they await trial unless they pose a threat to public safety.

But his case spotlights the division in the city about this policy.

“We could in theory put this woman in prison for the rest of her life,” Michael Romano, chair of California’s Committee on Revision of the Penal Code and founder of Stanford University’s Three Strikes and Justice Advocacy Project told the Chronicle.

“But that doesn’t solve the problem from a deterrence perspective — it doesn’t stop the next person from doing it — and it’s much more expensive to incarcerate somebody than to provide treatment,” he added/

But Vern Pierson, the district attorney of El Dorado County and past president of the California District Attorneys Association, said Graves represents how the legal system is failing to hold people accountable for their illegal behavior.

“Frankly, someone like this — she knows there’s no consequence,” Pierson said.

Graves is a critic of Prop 47, a ballot measure approved by California voters in 2014 that put the threshold for a felony theft at $950. The Chronicle reported:

It’s resulted, he said, in unusual prosecutions like the one against Graves, whose charging document is extensive, but packed with minor offenses. Nothing in state law would prevent a court from locking Graves up for a long time, Romano said, noting that under state Proposition 47 she could be eligible to serve six months for each count of petty theft.

And the release policy might also fail to get alleged criminals to comply with their release orders.

Statistics from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office show that as of July 31, 2021, 381 people on electronic monitoring failed to comply with the terms of their release once, and 160 had violated release terms.
