Poll: Democrats Prefer Defending Ukrainians over American Border

Almost two-thirds of Democrats believe that defending distant Ukraine from the Russian invasion is more important than defending America’s border, communities, and workplaces from illegal migrants, according to a survey by Rasmussen Reports.

Fifty-seven percent of Democrats say “Defending Ukraine against Russian invasion” is “more important to America’s national interest” than the alternative of “defending the U.S. border against illegal immigration.”  The February 23-24 survey included 1,000 likely voters.

In contrast, just 31 percent of Democrats favored defending the U.S. border, which is needed by their fellow citizens as they try to win good wages from employers, and as they try to buy decent housing near good schools.

Ideological liberals were even more likely to favor the defense of Ukraine over the American border, by 67 percent to 17 percent, or four to one.

But GOP supporters favored defending the American border over Ukraine by four to one, or 74 percent to 18 percent. Ideological conservatives reported a similar 75 percent to 17 percent split.

Swing-voters strongly backed the defense of U.S. borders by 56 percent to 33 percent.

Latino and Asian voters picked the U.S. border defense over Ukraine by 63 percent to 28 percent.

The poll also showed an economic divide.

Just 31 percent of people who earn between $50,000 and $100,000 favored the defense of Ukraine, while 59 percent favored the defense of their own border.

However, wealthier Americans split evenly: 46 percent for Ukraine 50 percent for the U.S. border.

The survey result matches other polls showing how ideological liberals are less willing to ally with ordinary Americans than with distant foreigners. This ideological preference for “telescopic charity” is very different from conservatives, who simultaneously sympathize with distant victims but also prioritize circles of people closer to home — first family, then relatives, neighbors, same-county residents, and then fellow nationals. But this reluctance to defend their national border is tied to progressives’ eagerness to use immigrants to help them win political supremacy over ordinary Americans.

Since at least 1990, the federal government has tried to extract people from poor countries so they can serve U.S. investors as cheap workers, government-aided consumers, and high-density renters in the U.S. economy. That economic strategy has no stopping point, and it is harmful to ordinary Americans because it cuts their career opportunities and their wages while it also raises their housing costs.

The federal government’s wealth-shifting extraction migration policy is very unpopular, according to a wide variety of media-ignored polls. The polls show deep and broad opposition to labor migration and the inflow of temporary contract workers into jobs sought by young U.S. graduates.

The opposition is growing, anti-establishment, multiracial, cross-sex, non-racist, class-based, bipartisan, rational, persistent, and recognizes the solidarity that Americans owe to one another:

The Conservative Political Action Conference’s (CPAC) annual straw poll reveals that more than 8-in-10 attendees call illegal immigration to the United States a “greater problem” for the nation than Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The poll found that 81 percent of CPAC attendees consider illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border to be a larger threat to the U.S. than the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Only 16 percent said the Russia-Ukraine conflict was a larger threat to the U.S.

Currently, President Joe Biden is asking officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to volunteer to leave their posts at the southern border to deploy to Poland to assist with evacuating Americans, green card-holders, and family members of American citizens from Ukraine.

Likewise, CPAC attendees consider immigration to be the second most important issue facing the nation, with 48 percent, running only behind election integrity at 49 percent.

The result comes as CPAC hosted a single panel titled “The Invasion” on February 24 that centered on border-related issues while issues around the nation’s overall legal immigration levels, visa programs, and Biden’s historic resettlement of Afghans across American communities were excluded.

Last week, an Associated Press-NORC poll found that nearly two-in-three Republican voters are “extremely or very concerned” about illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border and consider it a direct threat to their interests.

Meanwhile, just 22 percent of Republicans said they want the U.S. to play a “major role” in the Russia-Ukraine conflict while 76 percent said the U.S. ought to play a “minor role” or “no role” at all.

The poll, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, included more than 2,500 CPAC attendees from February 24 to February 27.

Democrats have rushed to declare Ukraine’s borders sacred while destroying our own borders, former President Donald Trump said Saturday.

“What has happened in Ukraine is a catastrophic disaster. But it isn’t really that interesting that so many Democrat politicians in Washington, they seem to be rushing to microphones to declare that Ukraine’s borders are sacred,” he told the audience during remarks given at CPAC in Orlando, Florida.

Trump continued:

They want to say their borders are sacred, and we feel for Ukraine in so many ways, but Ukraine’s sovereignty must be defended at all costs, they say, even while they’re destroying our own borders and surrendering our own sovereignty. We have a border that’s a catastrophe. We have people coming into our country that we don’t want. They will not be good for our country.

Meanwhile, House Democrats have joined with several open borders organizations, some of which are financially tied to billionaire George Soros, in working to stop the surveilling of illegal aliens who crossed the border into the United States, Breitbart News exclusively reported Wednesday.

In a letter drafted by Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Chuy Garcia (D-IL), and Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), the House Democrats go after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency’s Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAP) that monitors and tracks nearly 151,000 border crossers and illegal aliens released into the U.S. interior while awaiting their immigration court hearings.

However, Trump noted on Saturday, “The most important duty of every elected lawmaker is to protect and defend America, and that begins with protecting and defending America’s borders.”

He said under Joe Biden’s leadership, “we’re losing our country,” adding the Biden administration “spent months obsessing over how to stop an invasion of a foreign country, thousands of miles away.”

“You can’t defend western civilization if you would not be able to defend your own civilization. And that means we need borders that work, elections that are fair and free and not rigged, and crime that must be immediately stopped in our cities,” he commented.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Oleksii Reznikov, recently said officials gave 18,000 submachine guns and ammunition to civilians and militia members after Russian leader Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of country on Thursday.

The arrest in Mexico and repatriation of a U.S.-born Gulf Cartel member who had pending warrants in Texas on murder charges triggered a violent response by the criminal organization.

The case began last week when U.S. authorities received information that Obed Pena, who was wanted in Texas on murder charges, was living in Tamaulipas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection revealed in a statement.

On Thursday Tamaulipas state authorities captured Pena in the town of Diaz Ordaz. Mexican officials coordinated with CBP for his repatriation to the United States.

Information shared with Breitbart Texas by Tamaulipas state authorities revealed that during the arrest, they seized three vehicles, three radios, and several makeshift road spikes.

Pena is wanted in connection with a 2021 Hidalgo County murder. Breitbart Texas confirmed with various U.S. and Mexican law enforcement agencies that Pena was a local leader with the Gulf Cartel in the areas west of the border city of Reynosa.

By Thursday afternoon, Gulf Cartel gunmen began a series of attacks throughout Reynosa. The cartel focused on shooting out police surveillance cameras and used large trucks in an attempt to knock down the concrete poles used to hold the cameras, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the Tamaulipas government revealed.

Gunmen also carried out similar attacks in the cities of Diaz Ordaz, Miguel Aleman, and Camargo. The attacks continued into Friday night and early Saturday morning. Various videos on social media showed cartel members using stolen buses and trucks to ram the poles used to hold the police cameras.

While local residents reported hearing numerous shots being fired throughout the city, authorities claim that on Thursday night, no clashes took place between Gulf  Cartel gunmen and authorities. They also claimed there have been no reports of injuries in Reynosa during the attacks.

By Friday morning, Mexican soldiers clashed with cartel gunmen in the city of Miguel Aleman whre they tried to remove blockades set up by the cartel.

Gulf Cartel gunmen also placed several banners throughout the region addressed to Mexican President Lopez Obrador, where they claim Tamaulipas Governor Francisco Cabeza de Vaca and his state police forces have been terrorizing the region.

Cabeza de Vaca called the Gulf Cartel actions a series of vandalism attacks in response to operations against criminal activity.

“We are not going to give up a single space to the criminal groups we are going to move forward firmly and with determination” Cabeza de Vaca responded in a prepared statement shared with news outlets. “In other parts of the country, they act differently, not here in Tamaulipas.”

Report: Biden to Divert Agents from U.S. Southern Border, Send Them to ‘Assist’ with Russia-Ukraine Conflict

President Joe Biden’s administration is looking to divert United States Border Patrol agents from their mission at the U.S.-Mexico border to send them overseas “to assist” those fleeing from Ukraine amidst Russia’s invasion, a new report states.

Even as illegal immigration continues pouring through the nation’s southern border at record levels, Biden hopes to entice Border Patrol agents to sign up voluntarily to aid American citizens, green card-holders, and their immediate relatives fleeing Ukraine into Eastern Europe.

John Solomon at Just The News, who exclusively obtained the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) memo, detailed the effort dubbed “Operation Support Ukraine:”

“The Office of Field Operations is seeking volunteers to assist with the possible evacuation of U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and their immediate family members from Ukraine.,” the memo sent to field operations executives said. [Emphasis added]

“Eligible employees who volunteer for this situation may be selected to serve a temporary duty assignment in Poland to facilitate travelers for entry into the U.S., to include providing guidance and problems resolution to other government agencies.” [Emphasis added]

The memo said volunteers need to be ready to deploy “within 2-3 days” of selection and should plan for about a month’s work overseas. It also offered a plan for COVID-19 mitigation that said workers need to either have the vaccine or natural immunity from a recent infection. [Emphasis added]

Last month, Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 154,000 border crossers. Roughly 2.1 million border crossers and illegal aliens are expected to arrive at the southern border this year.

Since October, according to Fox News’s Adam Shaw, about 220,000 border crossers successfully crossed into the U.S. via the southern border, undetected by Border Patrol.

In January, alone, the Biden administration released more than 62,500 border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior. Border Patrol agents have blasted Biden’s policies, which they say have made illegal immigration close to unmanageable.

Of those 52, 21 people were arrested Thursday, and 22 already were in custody on unrelated charges, according to an FBI news release. The other  nine are being sought. All were charged with conspiracy to distribute and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and heroin. Seven also are charged with distributing the narcotics, the FBI said. The indictment, unsealed Thursday, was the result of a yearslong investigation by federal, state, county and city authorities that targeted the West Side Verdugo gang. The defendants face 10 years to life in prison if convicted, the FBI said. San Bernardino police Lt. Rich Lawhead, who was part of the team that made the arrests, said that in addition to drug pushing, West Side Verdugo members are responsible for several homicides and assaults in the city. “All our street gangs are a problem,” Lawhead said. “They create an environment of fear. Gangs in general are responsible for a majority of our homicides and a lot of the other illegal activity in the city.” Most of the 90-page indictment is devoted to summaries of 502 separate phone calls or text messages intercepted by authorities in which the sales of heroin and meth were discussed in coded language. Other messages discussed smuggling drugs to inmates, including those in the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, and Corcoran and Ironwood state prisons. There were also conversations about money owed, the collection of “drug taxes” from dealers allowed to set up in gang territory, and the enforcement of gang rules. The conversations occurred from Aug. 26, 2010, to Jan. 16, 2012. “A lot of these people were shocked when we showed up,” Lawhead said, noting the amount of time that had passed since the investigation began. “But the wheels of justice do move.” Lawhead said he hoped the arrests would dissuade youngsters from joining gangs. The release said the Verdugo gang and its affiliates are linked to the Mexican Mafia prison gang. Some of the drugs were dealt at what was described as the “7th Street Park.” FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that was a reference to La Plaza Park on Mt. Vernon Avenue, at Seventh Street on San Bernardino’s west side. Lawhead said heroin has been sold at that park for years, and that the city’s officers patrol La Plaza and other parks in an effort to deter drug dealers. Gang members went to great lengths to smuggle drugs to inmates, according to the indictment. One person, identified as “Martinez,” was told to sneak drugs into West Valley Detention Center by getting himself arrested and booked into the facility. His plan was foiled, however, when a police officer merely wrote a citation for an unspecified offense. “There wasn’t anyone who wanted to go to jail today – I guarantee you that,” Lawhead said. San Bernardino police last year began investigating illegal firearms sales involving Westside Verdugo, a Latino street gang rooted in the city for roughly 70 years. But early on in the investigation, police realized they were dealing with something much bigger than just illicit gun sales, Police Chief David Green said during a news conference Thursday at the San Bernardino Police Department, where dozens of assault weapons and handguns seized by police during the investigation were spread across a table. Several agencies enlisted In June, the investigation ramped up when the San Bernardino Police Department asked the state attorney general’s Special Operations Unit to join in. The Santa Ana Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol also assisted in the investigation, which culminated Wednesday when officers fanned out across San Bernardino County, serving 34 search warrants, arresting 31 people and seizing 111 firearms at multiple locations. During the course of the investigation, coined “Operation Westside Jenga,” police seized 92 handguns, 19 assault weapons, more than $295,000 in cash and hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin and fentanyl. Several potential shootings and armed robberies were thwarted, and evidence collected by investigators during the investigation assisted in the closure of two homicide cases, police said. Additionally, investigators infiltrated and shut down 30 illegal gambling operations and seized more than 100 high-end gambling machines. Gambling operations The gambling operations — which housed high-end gambling machines, most of them acquired on the black market and imported from China — were bringing in tens of thousands of dollars a week and were operated out of private residences, warehouses and closed businesses, Green said. He said the gambling facilities were a joint-enterprise between Westside Verdugo and the Mexican Mafia, the patriarchal prison gang that receives a share of profits from drug sales and other illicit business carried out by Westside Verdugo and other Latino street gangs in the form of “taxes.” Some of that revenue was reinvested into the gambling operations. “It has a hierarchy. It has its own business model. It’s an illicit business model, but it’s one that’s very lucrative nonetheless,” Green said. The statements by officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety directly clash with longstanding claims by local police chiefs who routinely say that border cities are safe. “These criminal organizations come across from Mexico to the U.S. side and they kill individuals. they murder individuals,” Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lieutenant Chris Olivarez told Sara Carter with Fox News. “We have had several incidents that have taken place along the border using professional-type weapons the way they carry out these killings, very professional, very methodical.” The statements by Olivarez come at a time when both DPS and the Texas National Guard increased their law enforcement presence along the border in response to record-breaking human and drug smuggling activity by criminal organizations like the Gulf Cartel and the Cartel Del Noreste faction of Los Zetas. The statements made by Olivarez clash with the longstanding narrative by several politicians, local police chiefs, and sheriffs who claim that border cities are safe. Those claims are usually backed up by statistics from the FBI Uniform Crime Report. However as Breitbart Texas has reported, the UCR only looks at seven specific crimes and does not account for criminal activity that is specific to border cities such as kidnappings, extortion, drug trafficking, human smuggling, and human trafficking. Additionally, the terminology used by police departments for the UCR report allows them to hide the severity of certain crimes. One example particular to border cities deals with home invasions, where teams of gunmen storm into a house looking for drugs or cash. Agency data show that CBP agents last month captured nearly 1,050 pounds of the lethal opioid, the fifth-highest amount in three years. For comparison, the amount of fentanyl seized in October is more than 2.5 times the amount the agency seized in the first three months of 2019 and roughly 40 percent of the amount seized in all of 2019. The high amount of fentanyl busts coincides with skyrocketing opiate overdoses across the country—the Centers for Disease Control recorded a record-high 12-month overdose death toll between March 2020 and March 2021 with no signs of deceleration through the end of this year. The seizures also come as President Joe Biden reverses a number of border policies, a decision that critics say grants more opportunities for criminal elements to smuggle drugs into the country. One senior Department of Homeland Security official told the Washington Free Beacon that drug smugglers are accelerating their operations as agents on the border face resource and manpower constraints with processing asylum claims instead of trying to stop drug smugglers. "Cartels are exploiting the migrant crisis to expand drug and human smuggling," one senior DHS official said. "The administration knew full well that using agents to process mass groups of economic migrants would mean reducing the effort to combat crime. They alone own these failures." The Biden administration has touted high seizure numbers as a success. Deputy White House Press Secretary Andrew Bates on Nov. 2 tweeted out an excerpt from an MSNBC piece that said, "The [fentanyl] seizures disprove one of the [GOP's] favorite talking points: If the president had implemented an ‘open-border' policy, as the right routinely claims, U.S. Customs and Border Protection wouldn't have stopped these shipments." Officials within Border Patrol and DHS disputed that characterization by the White House, with the senior DHS official calling Bates's comment "galaxy brain" thinking. Many states have pinned much of the blame for the opioid crisis on the Biden administration's immigration policies, calling them reckless and a public health threat. West Virginia, which has been among the states hardest hit by the opioid crisis, in August filed a lawsuit against DHS and Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over the department's decision to end the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols, which force asylum seekers to remain in Mexico before their court dates in the United States. The state alleged in court that the decision contributed to the "devastating deadly flood of fentanyl across the Southwest border." "By its consequences burdening and distracting the Border Patrol, the termination of the [Migrant Protection Protocols] decreases the security of the border against fentanyl trafficking between ports of entry, leading directly to both increased numbers of smuggling attempts and increased rates of success in evading Border Patrol," the lawsuit stated. Missouri in April filed a similar suit against DHS. Research has found that just two milligrams of fentanyl can cause a lethal overdose in people with no prior use of the drug, meaning the amount of the drug seized in October alone could kill over 200 million people. The influx of fentanyl from across the border has led to bipartisan efforts in Congress to ramp up law-enforcement efforts to arrest and prosecute dealers and traffickers. A group of Republican and Democratic senators in September introduced the Providing Officers with Electronic Resources Act, which provides grants to local law-enforcement agencies for portable fentanyl screening devices.
