An illegal alien has received a 10-year prison sentence for stabbing a 33-year-old man to death in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2021.

Victoriano Dias Barrera, a 40-year-old illegal alien from Honduras, was sentenced to 10 years in prison this week by Sixth Judicial District Judge Justin Lightfoot for stabbing to death Victor Huerta on April 4, 2021.

Barrera was originally charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter to reduce his prison sentence.

According to prosecutors, Barrera was in a hotel room with a handful of other people, including Huerta, when the two got into a heated argument. Eventually, Barrera ended up stabbing Huerta to death with a knife, though his defense team claimed he was defending himself.

When first responders arrived, they tried to save Huerta’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Huerta’s sister told the court she has “fallen into a strong depression” since the loss of her brother.

“Since they told me the bad news that he was killed, ever since that day my life hasn’t been the same because they took my only brother that cared about me,” she said in a victim impact statement.

Barrera is likely to be deported to Honduras following his prison sentence. He has also been ordered to pay $150,000 to Huerta’s family.

Democrats Admit Biden’s Ending Title 42 a ‘Big Problem’ for Their Election Odds

High-ranking Democrats are now publicly admitting that President Joe Biden’s insistence on ending the public health authority known as Title 42 at the United States-Mexico border has created a “big problem” for them ahead of the midterm elections in November.

Weeks ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that on May 23 the Biden administration would end Title 42. The authority was first issued by Trump in 2020 and has allowed federal immigration officials to quickly return illegal aliens to their native countries after they cross the southern border.

This week, a federal judge said he would block the Biden administration from ending Title 42 while the issue makes its way through the courts.

Now, House Democrats are worried that Biden’s ending Title 42 will hurt their prospects in the midterm elections, according to PunchBowl News:

We reported in our PM edition last night that Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn’t happy with the Biden administration’s handling of Title 42, the pandemic era policy that limited immigration through the U.S.-Mexico border. [Emphasis added]

As premium subscribers learned, House Democratic leaders worry that if reinstating Title 42 came up for a vote as part of a Ukraine aid package, Democrats wouldn’t have the votes to defeat it. Several top House Democrats vented about the administration’s handling of Title 42 during last night’s closed-door leadership meeting. [Emphasis added]

It endangers the whole Congress. It just doesn’t endanger the Frontliners,” House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn told us about the administration’s current Title 42 policy. “It’s a big problem.” [Emphasis added]

In recent weeks, a number of red-state and swing-state Democrats — many of whom are facing tough re-election bids — have crafted talking points claiming their opposition to ending Title 42 is tied to the Biden administration’s lack of a plan to deal with waves of illegal immigration.

Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), though, has shaped plans for when Title 42 ends at the end of May. Breitbart News exclusively reported and published the agency’s “Southwest Border Mass Irregular Migration Contingency Plan.”

The plan details “broadscale release mechanisms” that transform the border into a mere checkpoint for foreign nationals arriving every day.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) told Breitbart News that he would expect 30,000 border crossers and illegal aliens every day at the border without Title 42. In Tijuana, Mexico, alone, Breitbart News exclusively reported that up to 6,000 foreign nationals are waiting to rush the border when Title 42 is ended.

The Biden administration’s plan for ending Title 42, which Breitbart News reported and published, details “broadscale release mechanisms” that transform the border into a mere checkpoint for foreign nationals arriving every day.

Without Title 42, Biden officials admit that up to half a million border crossers and illegal aliens — the equivalent of the resident population of Atlanta, Georgia, — could arrive at the border every month.

Under the plan, Biden seeks to cut deportations for border crossers and illegal aliens, instead shifting to mechanisms like parole, Notices to Appear (NTAs), and an Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program — all of which ensure the mass release of foreign nationals into the U.S. interior.

Biden Border Plan: More Taxpayer Funding for NGOs to Bus, Fly Border Crossers into American Communities

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has crafted a plan to more quickly and easily bus and fly border crossers into American communities as a response to the president’s seeking to end Title 42, the public health authority used to deter illegal immigration.

Titled “DHS Plan for Southwest Border Security and Preparedness,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas details an effort to continue the administration’s transformation of the United States-Mexico border into a mere checkpoint for border crossers.

The plan is specifically crafted to be implemented sometime after Biden ends the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Title 42 authority that has allowed federal immigration officials to quickly return illegal aliens to their native countries for two years. A federal judge has said he plans to block the administration from ending the authority.

“When the Title 42 public health Order is lifted, we anticipate migration levels will increase, as smugglers will seek to take advantage of and profit from vulnerable migrants,” Mayorkas writes in the plan.

Biden officials admit that up to half a million border crossers and illegal aliens — the equivalent of the resident population of Atlanta, Georgia — could arrive at the border every month after Title 42 is ended.

To relieve DHS officials of the potentially record-breaking illegal immigration that is expected, Mayorkas writes that the agency will surge taxpayer funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as Jewish Family Services and Catholic Charities that help bus and fly border crossers into American communities.

Mayorkas writes:

By May 23, we will be prepared to hold approximately 18,000 noncitizens in CBP custody at any given time, up from 13,000 at the beginning of 2021, and we have doubled our ability to transport noncitizens on a daily basis, with flexibility to increase further. [Emphasis added]

We are bolstering the capacity of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to receive noncitizens after they have been processed by CBP and are awaiting the results of their immigration removal proceedings. And, we are ensuring appropriate coordination with and support for state, local, and community leaders to help mitigate increased impacts to their communities. [Emphasis added]

Our goal is to help communities alleviate the pressures they experience by expanding NGO capacity, through communication and coordination with all relevant partners, and other assistance such as the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grant program that supplements and expands ongoing work of local NGOs to meet the needs of local agencies. [Emphasis added]

Mayorkas also details in the plan the step-by-step process where DHS ends up releasing tens of thousands of border crossers into American communities every month. In March alone, DHS released more than 80,000 border crossers into the U.S. interior — a population larger than the president’s hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“Upon encountering individuals who have entered between [Ports of Entries], Border Patrol Agents transport them to stations for processing,” Mayorkas writes:

This includes verifying their identities through a review of their documents and biographic information, as well as the collection of biometric records. Each individual processed by [Customs and Border Protection (CBP)] is screened against numerous records systems, including the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database, to determine whether or not they pose a national security or public safety threat. After initial identity verification and record checks, CBP Agents and Officers determine the appropriate processing pathway from the available options, which are determined based on an individual’s nationality, age, family status, and results of security screening and vetting. This process, including final processing for each pathway, takes, on average, one to two hours per individual. [Emphasis added]

Upon completion of CBP processing, certain noncitizens may be quickly removed and others may be transferred to ICE for continued detention. Unaccompanied children must be transferred to HHS. Noncitizens not transferred to other government agencies are processed for release during the pendency of their removal proceedings. This often includes enrollment in an ICE Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program and coordination with NGOs to assist with planning for travel away from the border and the provision of other basic services. [Emphasis added]

As part of the plan, Biden’s Department of Defense is expected to “provide, as needed, rapid contracting support for air and ground transportation” for border crossers being transported to American communities.

DHS is also looking to have NGOs provide legal assistance to border crossers and illegal aliens so they can fight deportation orders and gain asylum in the U.S.

“NGOs will be present as well to provide legal orientation services and onward transportation for those low-risk individuals who are ultimately released on ATD,” Mayorkas writes.

As Breitbart News exclusively reported this week, sources at DHS have said they are merely serving as an “Uber service” for border crossers and illegal aliens — releasing most who arrive at the southern border into American communities with the help of NGOs.

“We’re like a full service travel agency,” a source said.

In a privately circulated plan, exclusively reported and published by Breitbart News, the Biden administration details “broadscale release mechanisms” for border crossers and illegal aliens.

Biden’s Catch and Release network has released foreign populations into the U.S. interior in numbers greater than the population of many major American cities.

For instance, from January 2021 to February 2022, Biden released more than 765,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities, not including illegal aliens who successfully crossed the border undetected or Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) who were resettled by the federal government.
