Where Self-Defense Turns into a Charge of Murder
A progressive tale in NYC.
New York City has become a haven for mentally ill and drug-addicted homeless people who live on the streets and in the subways, free to menace the general public. Dangerous criminals are released repeatedly after their arrest with no bail requirement, free to resume preying on innocent victims. There are less police officers available to protect public safety, thanks to reckless cuts in the New York Police Department budget and the departure of police officers in droves who were tired of working in a hostile environment. And New Yorkers have to walk on eggshells when it comes to defending themselves against a criminal attack. Manhattan’s radical progressive pro-criminal district attorney believes that self-defense can be charged as murder.
Just recently, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged a bodega worker with murder for defending himself with a knife against an unprovoked attack by an ex-con that resulted in the assailant’s death. Meanwhile, the assailant’s girlfriend has escaped all charges whatsoever for stabbing the bodega worker because, prosecutors said, she was only trying to help her boyfriend fight back against the bodega worker.
Bragg may be backtracking on the murder charge after speaking on July 12th with city bodega owners who are pressuring him to reverse course. However, the fact that Bragg would even consider filing a murder charge in the first place speaks volumes about his perverse priorities. The radical progressive district attorney has sent New Yorkers the message that they should think twice before fighting back in self-defense. Bragg has compounded this message by supporting efforts in New York to continue limiting law-abiding residents from carrying guns outside their homes for self-defense because “more guns in our communities make us less safe.”
More dangerous criminals on the loose who are in possession of illegal guns make us less safe, not legal guns in the hands of law-abiding people. District Attorney Bragg would rather let dangerous criminals back on the streets where they can obtain illegal guns on the black market and continue jeopardizing public safety. But he does not hesitate to go after a crime victim for defending himself.
As a New York Post editorial put it:
“Thanks to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, New York is a city turned upside down. Get caught with an illegal gun, get released without bail. Shove an elderly person to the ground, attack someone because they are Asian, a slap on the wrist. Shoplift again . . . and again . . . and again . . . nothing. But defend yourself and your place of business from a man who attacks you, and Bragg sends you to Rikers.”
Here is another example of progressive madness in New York’s criminal justice system that has turned New York City upside down. Two suspected Mexican drug-cartel smugglers were apprehended with their horde of $1.2 million worth of crystal meth while trying to make two drug deliveries. They were then promptly released with no cash bail requirement. That is because crystal meth is considered a controlled substance in New York, not a narcotic, and the charge of second-degree possession of a controlled substance carries no bail requirement under New York State’s progressive criminal-friendly bail “reform” law.
“This is a serious problem,” New York City Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan told the New York Post. “At the time the bail laws were changed, New York City was not a distribution hub for methamphetamine. Now it is, and we are unable to even ask for bail, even if we arrest someone with no ties to the city and a load worth millions of dollars,” she said.
New York Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul has permitted the madness that has taken over New York City’s criminal justice system to get worse. She has the power to remove District Attorney Bragg from office but has refused to do so. Governor Hochul has managed to secure only minor modifications in New York State’s outrageous bail “reform” law that has given so many repeat criminals a free get-out-of-jail card. And New York’s feckless governor refuses to say where she stands on legislation that would end qualified immunity for police officers in civil suits alleging misconduct, which New York City insanely ended last year.
New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams has talked a good game about combating the alarming rise in violent crimes plaguing the city. He also expressed his support for the bodega worker charged with murder by District Attorney Bragg but refused to criticize Bragg for bringing the charge in the first place. Instead of refusing to “second guess” Bragg, the mayor should call for his removal and replacement with a district attorney who is not soft on criminals and who understands that self-defense, even with deadly force, is not a crime.
According to a Spectrum News NY1/Siena College survey published in June, violent crime is the top concern of an overwhelming number of New York City residents. Seventy-six percent of New Yorkers surveyed said they were “concerned that they will be a victim of violent crime,” according to the survey results.
Nevertheless, for some unexplained reason, New York City’s emergency management agency decided to put out a public service announcement on July 12th giving advice to New Yorkers about how to survive a nuclear attack. The agency advised New Yorkers to get inside a building, secure the doors and windows, and stay inside. Although hardly likely to protect New Yorkers against the devastation of a nuclear attack, staying off the streets is certainly one way to avoid dangerous encounters with violent criminals. Even staying inside, however, won’t protect New Yorkers against home invasions.
Most New Yorkers are not very worried about a nuclear attack these days. They are worried about surviving in the madhouse created by reckless progressive government policies that have caused violent crime to become the new normal.
21 Shot During Weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago
Twenty-one people were shot during the weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago, seven of them fatally.
ABC 7/Chicago Sun-Times reports that the weekend’s first shooting fatality occurred Friday night at 7:10 p.m., when a 25-year-old man was shot and killed during a drug deal.
The weekend’s second shooting fatality took place at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, when a 56-year-old man was shot and killed while walking on a sidewalk “in the 600 block of South California Avenue.”
At 11:35 p.m. Saturday, a fight broke out on a porch “in the 3900-block of West Wilcox Street.” Someone opened fire during the fight, killing a woman “believed to be in her mid-20s.”
The weekend’s fourth shooting fatality was discovered at 11:55 p.m. Saturday. Police found a 31-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
At 2:40 a.m. Sunday, the occupants of two vehicles “in the 800-block of South Albany Avenue” began shooting at one another. Two men died as a result. One of the men was 25, and the other was 28.
The weekend’s seventh shooting fatality was a 51-year-old man whom police “found about 7:30 a.m. in the 10400-block of South Corliss Avenue.” He was dead at the scene.
The Sun-Times points out that 347 people were killed in Chicago January 1, 2022, through July 17, 2022.

Barack Obama notoriously stated that he didn’t want to see women being “punished with a baby.” Elizabeth Warren said that women who go to crisis pregnancy centers are met by people who “want to do them harm.” Liberals clearly believe that giving birth is not desirable but killing babies is.

"I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh: You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions."
During the 2020 riots, Democrats in the media and in government actually praised rioters and arsonists and cheered them on.
Regarding same, Vice President Kamala Harris said,
"Protestors should not let up. They’re not gonna let up and they should not."

The question is this. Why are Democrats so married to the use of violence to get their agenda passed, or does the question answer itself? Democrats know in their alleged hearts that the people of America do not like their agenda, but that doesn't matter because Americans are too dim to know what is good for them.
Perhaps this is the answer: BlackRock CEO and WEF globalist Larry Fink publicly stated that force should be used where there is recalcitrance:
Behaviors are going to have to change and this is one thing we are asking companies, you have to force behaviors and at BlackRock, we are forcing behaviors.
This attitude is not limited to companies but like scum, it floats and covers the entire American landscape. We on the Right have got to understand that the Left has no inclination to gain our acceptance for their policies or for changing hearts and minds. They want to use force and they are using force to get acquiescence for their policies. It doesn't matter to them that we abhor their policies. They believe they are right and they want to rule. It's the age-old Lord Acton sentiment, "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
The Left have abandoned the representative form of governance and have adopted an authoritarian form of government using violence when they think it's necessary. Millions of dollars are flooding the coffers of organizations that thrive on violence. The Constitution be damned.
These people must be jettisoned if America is to remain free. We're already on a knife's edge of liberty. We don't need the Left pushing us over.

Feds Scoop Up Violent Fentanyl Trafficker Let Loose by Soros Prosecutor
Josh Christenson • July 13, 2022 5:05 pmFederal prosecutors have indicted a violent convicted drug trafficker for fentanyl distribution after a Virginia prosecutor boosted by the left-wing billionaire George Soros released the felon without bail just a day after his arrest.
Alpha Kamara last week was charged and taken into federal custody for conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, according to a Justice Department filing unsealed on Monday. The indictment supersedes charges brought by Fairfax County commonwealth's attorney Steve Descano (D.), who on June 27 filed charges against Kamara for the same case, only to release the offender without bail one day after his arrest.
The Justice Department's decision to charge Kamara ensures Descano's office won't mishandle the case. Descano has a history of releasing offenders before trial, dropping charges, and reducing sentences—sometimes with deadly consequences. His office last year dropped felony charges for a man who was charged later for killing two homeless men and wounding three others in New York City and Washington, D.C. In June, the prosecutor released on probation a violent repeat offender who went on to beat an elderly homeless woman to death at a bus stop.
Descano's soft-on-crime approach is typical of Soros-backed prosecutors, who have in the past decade received more than $40 million in donations from the Democratic megadonor. Soros contributed more than half-a-million dollars to Descano's campaign, along with fellow far-left Virginia prosecutors Buta Biberaj in Loudoun County and Parisa Dehghani-Tafti in Arlington County, dwarfing any other donation amounts in the races and helping to oust veteran prosecutors. Fueled by citizens' concerns over rising crime and lenient prosecution, recall efforts have spawned in each of the three Virginia counties, as well as in major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. In the Bay Area, city residents in June voted out far-left prosecutor Chesa Boudin by double digits. Top Democrats in Virginia are similarly courting candidates to challenge Biberaj.
Virginia State Police arrested Kamara on June 26 following a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash on a highway interstate. State troopers seized a loaded 9 mm handgun and more than two kilos of fentanyl pills from the wrecked car, and Kamara was charged with driving without a license, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, eluding police, grand larceny auto theft, and possession with intent to distribute a schedule I substance. He had been out of federal prison and on supervised release for just three days before his June joyride, having served slightly less than the length of his five-year sentence.
Descano's decision to release Kamara before his trial surprised prosecutors who spoke with the Free Beacon, given his criminal record. Virginia Republican attorney general Jason Miyares said the release was "just another example of the criminal-first, victim-last mentality pushed by far-left prosecutors."
"Fentanyl has rapidly become one of the most dangerous opioids to infect neighborhoods across our country," Miyares said. "Nationally, we've lost 105,000 Americans to overdoses from opioids, most commonly fentanyl. Continually letting repeat offenders get back onto the street only encourages more crime and creates even more victims. I am grateful for our partners in the DOJ stepping up when these local prosecutors fail to do their jobs."
The 25-year-old felon's first brush with law enforcement came in 2018, when he was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a major federal crackdown on Blood gang members and violent drug dealers in Northern Virginia. Operation Tin Panda, a joint effort between the FBI and ATF, resulted in 36 convictions and seized scores of firearms and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and assets, as well as hundreds of pounds of drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin. The federal agencies greenlighted the operation following a series of murders and violent incidents in Prince William County.
It is unclear whether Descano will pursue the charges he initially filed against Kamara. The Virginia prosecutor would have to wait until federal prosecution is completed. A preliminary hearing for the county charges is scheduled in August. Descano's office did not respond to a request for comment.
Descano during his tenure has abolished cash bail, told his attorneys to avoid mandatory minimum jail sentencing, and declined to prosecute many misdemeanors. A policy memo he distributed in his first year as Fairfax County's top prosecutor urged assistant commonwealth's attorneys to seek misdemeanor charges over felonies whenever appropriate. He has reportedly told his staff that they "will never get in trouble for prosecuting light." In one fraught meeting, Descano reportedly told one of his prosecutors to reduce a 20-year sentence by 5 years and to not "listen to victims" because they tend to be "overly dramatic."
In Fairfax, Virginians for Safe Communities has gathered more than half of the roughly 30,000 signatures necessary to trigger a special election.
"It is stunning that Steve Descano would cut loose a fentanyl-dealing gun felon after Kamara endangered the lives of the public and law enforcement," said Sean Kennedy, the president of Virginians for Safe Communities. "The citizens of Fairfax need to know that the single biggest threat to public safety is the chief prosecutor and his disregard for the laws and lives of this commonwealth."
Drug overdose deaths have risen nationwide since 2019, driven by new synthetic opioids like fentanyl, according to the CDC. The Drug Enforcement Administration reported synthetic opioid-related deaths shot up 56 percent from 2020 to 2021.
Fairfax County has yet to release its annual police report. Preliminary data show homicides were up 40 percent last year and are on pace to be higher in 2022.
Kamara is in the custody of the U.S. Marshals and being held without bond pending trial.
Manhattan’s Soros DA Throws the Book at Bodega Worker Attacked by Violent Criminal

Bragg's office charged 51-year-old Jose Alba with second-degree murder and was holding him on $250,000 bail at Rikers Island after a struggle last weekend over a bag of chips ended with the death of Austin Simon, a man with a lengthy criminal record who was on parole for assaulting a police officer. The decision to charge Alba with murder and set his bail so high is at odds with many cases the Manhattan office has handled. Last week, the mother of a slain Army veteran laid into a Bragg attorney in court, accusing the prosecutor of a miscarriage of justice after one of the assailants involved with the killing got just a seven-year prison sentence. Bragg concealed information from a court in a January assault and robbery case, in which a man who robbed a T.J. Maxx with a pair of scissors was only charged with a misdemeanor.
Bragg in March set no bail for and freed an offender with a long rap sheet who was charged with beating a 67-year-old man to death. In the past two months, he has twice released offenders before trial who have gone on to be charged with murder. One was released from jail the day before he struck. In another case, Bragg twice freed a gang member without bail, even though the gang member was charged for a series of stabbings.
The Manhattan district attorney's office initially requested $500,000 bail for Alba, but a judge struck that down as excessive. The Soros prosecutor dropped it again on Thursday to $50,000 following public outcry over the case, but is retaining a charge for murder.
Voters in November elected Bragg, who was raised in Harlem, following a campaign that pledged to seek prosecutorial leniency for many offenders and reduce incarceration. When Bragg ascended to office in January, he told his prosecutors in a memo to avoid prison sentences for most felony cases except under "extraordinary circumstances."
Soros in 2021 donated more than $1 million to Bragg's campaign, pushing Bragg through a heated Democratic primary with eight other candidates. The contribution is of a piece with the more than $40 million the Democratic megadonor has contributed to place dozens of liberal prosecutors in half of America's largest jurisdictions, a Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund (LELDF) report found. Many are now in the grip of a crime wave.
"It is clear that social justice prosecutors, including Alvin Bragg, are only interested in prosecuting police and others forced to defend themselves against violent criminals," LELDF president Jason Johnson told the Washington Free Beacon. "By upending the justice system these prosecutors are inflicting chaos on the cities they swore to protect. It is urgent that voters wake up and permanently end this failed experiment."
After Simon's girlfriend last week allegedly stabbed Alba, Simon lunged behind the counter. A fight ensued, and Alba, who according to his family was afraid for his life, reached for a boxcutting knife and turned it on Simon to subdue him. The 35-year-old ex-convict died later at the hospital. Alba's daughter told the New York Post on Wednesday, "It was either him or the guy at the moment."
"He's never hurt anybody," she said. "He's never had an altercation where he had to defend himself. This is the first time for him."
A GoFundMe set up by Alba's family was deleted without explanation on Thursday. The page had raised about $20,000. In a rather different case, a teenage New York City rapper who shot an NYPD cop to death was released on bail in January after posting just $15,000 of his $250,000 bond.
Simon's girlfriend pulled a knife from her purse and stabbed Alba after her debit card was declined, said Michelle Villasenor-Grant, the bodega employee's attorney. The knife-wielding girlfriend ran out of the store to grab Simon and bring him back after Alba refused to let her purchase some chips. Bragg's office has not charged her.
"It would not be that surprising that someone thinks that harm is going to come to them or that they are going to be robbed, particularly if the woman that you just got into a verbal argument with is also with this person, and ended up taking her own knife out of a purse and stabbing my client," Villasenor-Grant said on Saturday at an arraignment hearing.
Crime data show that in the last three years homicide is up 52 percent in New York City. Shootings are up more than 100 percent, and car theft is up 91 percent, according to the New York Police Department. In 2021, the Big Apple recorded nearly 500 homicides, its most in a decade.
Alba is a native of the Dominican Republic and became a U.S. citizen 14 years ago. He may be released on bail as soon as Saturday. Simon's criminal history includes charges of assault, robbery, and domestic violence.
New York City mayor Eric Adams (D.) on Thursday said Alba did not break the law when he acted in self-defense during the attack.
"I saw a worker here inside the store following the law and he should not have been approached in the manner he was approached," Adams said. "It's time for New Yorkers and Americans to stand up for people who follow the law."
Starbucks Closes More Than a Dozen Stores Amid Crime Surge

The company is shuttering locations in Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, Ore., Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Each city is governed by Democratic mayors and is undergoing a spike in crime. In a message to employees, Starbucks executives said the company has been getting "a lot" of incident reports of criminal activity, including drug use in stores. "We cannot serve as partners if we don’t first feel safe at work," they said.
Starbucks, which has lost roughly a third of its value over the past year, also announced it will give managers more leeway with store policy to deter criminals. Managers will be able to close bathrooms to deter drug use and limit customer seating. Starbucks said it will also offer baristas additional training in deescalating conflicts.
Starbucks's move comes two years after the company downplayed violence amid rioting following the murder of George Floyd. In May 2020, Starbucks released a public statement praising racial justice activists and quoting Martin Luther King Jr.'s remark that
"a riot is the language of the unheard." Kevin Johnson, the company’s CEO, stressed the importance of the "courageous conversations" going on at the time.
Starbucks has worked to quash unionization efforts across the country, and two of the Seattle locations the company is closing are unionized. A Starbucks union leader when interviewed by the Journal said the company should have involved employees in the decision to close the stores.
Michigan Man Accused of Forcing Girl into Prostitution for Months
A man in Warren, Michigan, is accused of forcing a girl into commercial sex so he could collect the money.
In 2017, law enforcement were tipped off about a minor who was being trafficked for sex, Click on Detroit reported Tuesday.
Once an investigation was opened into the case, an officer working undercover saw an advertisement online, responded, and eventually rescued the girl from the situation, authorities explained.
“James Earl Madison-Cranford, 28 of Warren, is accused of forcing the girl to regularly perform commercial sex for several months,” the outlet continued. “He would post advertisements online and use his phone to post the advertisements and answer all the girl’s calls, officials said.”
Sex trafficking occurred when persons were compelled by force, fraud, or coercion to perform commercial sex acts, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) website.
“Sex trafficking of a minor occurs when the victim is under the age of 18. For cases involving minors, it is not necessary to prove force, fraud, or coercion,” the agency said.
Madison-Cranford was recently arraigned and charged with minor sex trafficking, prostitution (accepting earnings), prostitution (transporting female), conducting a criminal enterprise, along with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The suspect was charged as a habitual offender, according to Click on Detroit, which noted the initial four charges were each 20-year felonies, and the last charge a 15-year felony.
In June, a couple from Ohio was indicted after being accused of running a sex trafficking operation across six states, according to Breitbart News.
“The couple, who share children, is alleged to have conspired to ‘violently’ traffic women in their mid-20s from February 2020 to February 2021,” the outlet said.
In regard to the most recent case, officials said they were committed to helping victims.
“Let this case be a reminder that regardless of how many years have passed, our team will always fight for survivors of abuse,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated, adding, “We remain committed to securing justice.”
The suspect was being held on a $900,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on July 20.

Jerry Harris became one of the first Gen Z celebrities who weaponized their sizable online following to help the then-sinking Biden campaign connect with young voters.
Before his 2020 arrest, Harris rose to fame as a star of the Netflix documentary “Cheer.” In the fall of 2020, the FBI indicted Harris with producing child pornography and other charges, including sexual exploitation of children and traveling with the attempt to engage in sexual conduct with a minor.

Prior to his arrest in September 2020, Harris was one of several celebrity influencers the Biden campaign embraced in an effort to “win back the internet.” In June 2020, Biden appeared with Harris on Instagram Live to discuss “some really important issues facing our country right now, in particular young adults and the black community.” The video, which received more than 300,000 views on the social media platform, was deleted shortly after federal agents raided the influencer’s Illinois home in September. Harris was arrested days later.
The sentence is a blow to the Democratic Party, which has a long history of associating with sexual deviants. Last month, for example, Democratic donor Ghislaine Maxwell received a 20-year sentence for abusing and trafficking underage girls at the behest of Jeffrey Epstein, the scofflaw pedophile who “committed suicide” in 2019. Maxwell was a longtime friend of former president Bill Clinton, who gifted her a signed copy of his post-White House memoir and made numerous trips aboard Epstein’s private jet, nicknamed the “Lolita Express.” In 2010, Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding to failed hedge-fund manager Marc Mezvinsky.
In 2020, the Democratic Party lost one of its most prolific benefactors when Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein received a 23-year sentence after his conviction on charges of rape and sexual assault. Prior to his arrest in 2018, Weinstein consulted Anita Dunn for “damage control” advice. The longtime Biden adviser is viewed as a likely contender to replace White House chief of staff Ron Klain after the midterm elections.
Less than a year before Weinstein’s arrest, another prominent Democrat was sent to prison for child sex crimes. Former congressman Anthony Weiner (D., N.Y.) received a 21-month sentence after pleading guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor. Weiner, the disgraced husband of longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, was accused of “[asking] a girl who he knew to be 15 years old to display her naked body and engage in sexually explicit behavior for him online.” His shockingly degenerate behavior, first reported by the Washington Free Beacon‘s Alana Goodman, prompted the FBI to reopen its investigation into Clinton’s private email server, a development that likely contributed to her humiliating defeat in the 2016 election.
Chicago Man Accused of Tossing Naked Woman to Her Death: ‘I Threw the B*tch Out the Window’
A man in Chicago’s Uptown area has been accused of throwing a naked woman to her death from an apartment window on Wednesday.
“‘I threw the b*tch out the window,’ Tyson Tillman said in a phone call from the police station, according to prosecutor James O’Connor, a comment allegedly captured on a Chicago police officer’s bodyworn camera,” CWB Chicago reported Sunday, adding the victim was identified as Tabitha Tanner.
Tillman arrived at the building on North Magnolia late that evening and his girlfriend appeared nearly 40 minutes later, O’Connor explained.
Doorbell cameras reportedly showed the man’s girlfriend in the hallway, and just before 11:00 p.m., an outside camera caught the moment Tanner’s body fell to the ground in an alleyway behind the building.

Tillman, 38, was seen leaving his apartment in a red shirt moments after Tanner fell, and an exterior camera captured someone in a red shirt checking on her body at 11:03 p.m., according to O’Connor. Tillman re-entered the building at 11:11 p.m., he said.
The body was found Thursday morning, and the suspect later reportedly admitted the pair had engaged in a physical altercation inside the apartment, claiming her clothes came off at that time and the woman fell out the window.
“But investigators took Tillman in for questioning, and an officer’s bodyworn camera allegedly recorded him saying in a phone call, ‘I threw the b*tch out the window,'” the outlet added.
According to an April report, arrest rates have dropped from previous years in the city of Chicago as crime continues to plague the area.
“The rate at which CPD has been solving cases for many violent crimes is at a shocking low,” CBS Chicago stated:
Per the CWB Chicago article, the suspect was previously sentenced to prison multiple times mostly for drug-related offenses.
Now, officials have charged him with first-degree murder, and a judge ordered him held without bail.
Meanwhile, 71 individuals were shot, eight fatally, over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s (D) Chicago.
The ‘bodega’ case will hurt Democrats
"Bodega" is one of those places that we grew up going to. "El bodeguero" or the man who works at "la bodega," is one of those faces in the community that everybody knows and likes. When I was a kid in Cuba, my mother would call "la bodega" with an order and "el bodeguero" would send someone on a motorcycle with bags of things. My mother would sign a note and some kind of credit account was created. All I know is that my father would go by and pay the account and smoke a cigar. It all worked so well and "la bodega" was in the middle of it all.
So what happened in New York? A "bodeguero" was arrested for defending himself? Here is the story:
The facts of that case as they’ve been reported: After an argument between 61-year-old bodega worker Jose Alba and a woman customer, the woman’s boyfriend, Austin Simon, entered the bodega and attacked Alba behind the counter.
During the struggle, Alba grabbed a knife and stabbed Simon. At some point Simon’s girlfriend also joined the fight, stabbing Alba several times in the arm.
Simon died of his wounds. Alba was arrested by police and charged with intentional murder by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
That the incident, and Alba’s apparent efforts at self-defense, were caught on video fueled instantaneous outrage over the arrest -- which only grew as new facts emerged.
For one, Alba is by all accounts a longtime pillar of his community, a mild-mannered Dominican immigrant with no criminal record who works long hours. Simon, a 35-year-old violent career criminal with numerous felony arrests, was out on parole for assaulting a police officer.
What's happening to the country, or more specifically to New York? Alba, age 61, stabs Simon, age 35, in self-defense and he is the villain of the story? And Simon is a career criminal to go with it!
It's hard to tell what electoral impact this will have in New York City. I can guarantee that this story will flow from coast to coast and remind everyone that Democrats don't care about the people who work and pay taxes.
