DHS Secretary Tours Border Patrol’s Busiest Sector for Migrant Crossings in Texas
EAGLE PASS, Texas — DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas toured local facilities within the Border Patrol’s Del Rio Sector Thursday.
Mayorkas arrived in Del Rio on Thursday after completing a stop in San Antonio on Wednesday. In San Antonio, Mayorkas met with city leaders to discuss migrant housing and transit issues. As reported by Breitbart Texas, San Antonio leaders have asked for limitations on migrants sent from the border communities of Laredo, Del Rio, and Eagle Pass to be capped at 600 daily.
San Antonio’s migrant resource center faces overcrowding and complaints from residents about panhandling in high-traffic areas.
As part of the tour, Mayorkas visited a recently opened and overcrowded soft-sided processing facility near Eagle Pass. The center was built to house 1,000 migrants awaiting processing which, according to a source within CBP, is often at 200 percent capacity.
The influx of migrant traffic, to include single groups nearly 500 strong at times, causes temporary suspensions of routine border patrols.
More than 376,000 migrants have been apprehended entering the Del Rio Sector since October 2021, the start of the current fiscal year. Nearly 50,000 were apprehended in July alone, making the sector the busiest in the nation. According to a source within CBP, approximately 30 percent of the migrants are returned to Mexico almost immediately.
The increase in migrant traffic has brought about a corresponding increase in migrant deaths. A local funeral home contracted to receive decedent migrants has reached capacity and can no longer accept those found in the Rio Grande or on private ranches.
As reported by Breitbart Texas, five migrants drowned attempting to cross the Rio Grande in a three-day span last week. In another instance, the body of a drowned 3-year-old was discovered. A two-month-old infant was also found floating nearby but was revived during the same incident.

Reporter and columnist Fredid Román Román was gunned down as he left his home in Chilpancingo, Guerrero, on Monday, Aug. 23, making him the 15th journalist to be killed in Mexico this year.
Román Román was a reporter for various media outlets in the coastal Mexican state of Guerrero, as well as the owner and editor of the newspaper La Realidad, which he stopped publishing several years ago.
At the time of his death, he was publishing his column, “The Written Reality,” in various media and on his social networks.
On the day of his death, he published a column on criticizing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) for his mishandling of the investigation of the unsolved Ayotzinapa case surrounding 43 missing students in Guerrero in 2014.
Román Román is the second reporter assassinated during the administration of Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, who took office in October 2021. The first was the photojournalist Alfredo Cardoso Echeverría in Acapulco.
Fifteen journalists dead in Mexico is today's headline. #14 was killed in Sonora not long ago. And the story repeats itself!
My friends south of the border explain it this way:
First, many journalists are doing journalism. They are covering tough stories and drawing the ire of criminal elements; and
Second, most of them are unguarded. They are easy targets for those who follow them home or find them around town.
Yes, these journalists are doing good work and losing their lives in the process.

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Mexican Authorities Steal Thousands of Dollars from Traveler at Airport
Images exclusively obtained by Breitbart Texas capture the moment when authorities stole money from a Peruvian national who was denied entry into Mexico. The encounter occurred in July at the Mexico City International Airport.
On the morning of July 31, a man arrived from Peru, however, agents with Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) denied him entry and had him sent to a room called Rechazos 1 or Denials 1, where foreign nationals are held until they board the next available flight to their home country.
At Rechazos 1, a member of Mexico’s Navy and an officer with Mexico City’s Industrial and Banking Police (PBI) took over the intake process, a task typically performed by INM. Authorities placed the man’s luggage in a storage area, however, they did not do a standard inventory, according to a high-ranking INM official who asked to remain unidentified. The traveler had $60,000 pesos (approximately $3,000 USD).
The INM process calls for travelers to fill out a form declaring their valuables and, in the case of cash, the money is counted in front of witnesses and placed in a sealed envelope until departure, the INM official revealed.
The man told authorities that he had his savings in the bag, but the cop and the naval officer told him the area was secure, the INM official revealed.

Another photograph captured the moment when the PBI officer allegedly hides the cash.
Time passes and the man then asks to check his bag and discovered that $3,000 USD was missing before confronting the officers. Both men claimed that no one had entered the room.
The Peruvian continues to demand the return of his money, drawing the attention of more INM and naval officers.
Additional photographs capture the moment when authorities question the man about the outburst. INM officers began looking into the case.
The man ultimately was put on a plane back to Peru without his money.
Even though an investigation by INM revealed that theft by public officials did take place, the case was covered up, the INM official revealed.

Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, said his state is "desperate for help" to combat illegal immigration but the federal government "refuses to give it" help. $200K in Unclaimed Cash Found on Texas Bus near Border
Passengers on a bus in South Texas failed to claim a box containing nearly $200,000 in cash after Border Patrol agents found the stash. Agents also found an additional $500 in unclaimed counterfeit currency.
Freer Station Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector received a call for K-9 assistance from Duval County Sheriff’s Office deputies regarding a bus stopped on U.S. Highway 59, according to a tweet from Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Carl E. Landrum. A Border Patrol agent and his K-9 partner responded to the location.
The agent and K-9 conducted a search of the bus which led to the discovery of a shoe box. Upon inspection, the agent found the box contained $199,050 in U.S. currency. The agent also found $500 in counterfeit bills, Landrum stated.
None of the passengers on the bus claimed to be the owners of the nearly $200,000 in cash or the counterfeit bills.
Officials seized the unclaimed currency.
Earlier this year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found more than $100,000 taped to a woman’s body as she attempted to cross the border from Texas into Mexico. Officers working the Hidalgo International Bridge found a 26-year-old woman in a taxi attempting to cross the border, Breitbart Texas reported.
The officers referred the taxi driver to a secondary inspection area where officers found 12 bundles of cash taped to the woman’s body. Officials report the woman allegedly attempted to carry $114,294 of undeclared U.S. currency on her person.
