Mayorkas, Wray Say Foreign and Domestic Terrorism Remains Number One Threat to Americans
(CNSNews.com) - Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FBI Director Christopher Wray were two of the three witnesses called before the House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday to discuss the "grave threats" facing the American people.
"From cyberattacks to increasing destabilizing efforts by hostile nation states, the threats facing the homeland have never been greater or more complex," Mayorkas said in his opening statement.
Mayorkas told the panel that "foreign terrorist organizations remain committed to attacking the United States from within and beyond our borders," using social media platforms to spread their messaging.
Other terrorism threats include "lone actors...including domestic violent extremists," or U.S. based individuals who seek to further their political or social goals.
Mayorkas singled out Russia, China and North Korea as "hostile nations" that intend us harm, through ransomware attacks and cyber operations that sow "discord, undermine democracy and erode trust."
He said the Russian invasion of Ukraine "intensified the risk of a cyberattack," while "nation-state aggression is creating a heightened risk of chemical, biological radiological and nuclear-related threats to Americans."
Mayorkas also spoke about the threat posed by drones.
"With respect to unmanned aerial systems in particular, it is vital that Congress act before the end of this year" to renew DHS's statutory authority to protect the American people from malicious drone activity," Mayorkas said. "The risk of targeted (drone) violence, perpetrated by actors abroad and at home, is substantial," Mayorkas said.
Mayorkas mentioned "emerging technology platforms" that "allow individuals and nation-states to fan the flames of hate and personal grievances to large audiences and are encouraging people to commit violent acts.
"Those driven to violence are targeting critical infrastructure, soft targets, faith-based institutions, institutions of higher education, racial and religious minorities, government facilities, and personnel, including law enforcement and the military and perceived ideological opponents."
Mayorkas said the mission of the Homeland Security Department "has never been more vital," nor has the nation ever "been more prepared."
'Still ISIS and al-Qaeda'
FBI Director Chris Wray, in his opening statement, said protecting Americans from terrorist attacks remains the FBI's number one priority.
He said the greatest domestic terror threat is "lone actors or small cells." And overseas, the greatest threat is ISIS and al-Qaeda, which "still aim to inspire, plan and launch attacks against the U.S., both here and over there."
Wray said the threat of al-Qaeda reconstituting itself in Afghanistan after the U.S. withdrawal "remains very real." And he said the U.S. ability to gather intelligence inside Afghanistan "has been reduced."
Wray also mentioned hostile nations such as China, Russia, Iran and North Korea, which are "growing more aggressive, brazen and capable."
He noted that China, the greatest threat, "aspires to equal or surpass the U.S. as a global superpower," pushing its authoritarian value system on the rest of us.
Wray also listed cyber threats, violent criminals, human trafficking, and drug trafficking. "The breadth and depth of the threats that the FBI's dedicated men and women are tackling each and every day is staggering," Wray concluded.
Mayorkas Says 'Yes,' the Border Is Secure, but Wray Sees 'Significant Criminal Threats'
(CNSNews.com) - "Do you continue to maintain that the border is secure?" Rep. Den Bishop (R-N.C.) asked Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas at a hearing of the House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday.
"Yes, and we are working day in and day out to enhance its security," Mayorkas responded.
Bishop (R-N.C.) cut him off and asked the same question of FBI Director Christopher Wray, who said he could only speak about border security from the FBI's "narrow lane."
"What I would say is that we see significant criminal threats coming from south of the border. Whether it's guns, drugs, money, violence, we see transnational criminal organizations that are sending their drugs here and that are using street gangs here to distribute it, and that contributes to the violent crime crisis here.
"We've had takedowns just in the last few months," Wray said, giving the example of a drug seizure from a vehicle in Phoenix. Wray said the vehicle contained "enough fentanyl to kill the equivalent of the entire State of Pennsylvania."
National Counterterrorism Center Director Christine Abizaid said her agency does not assess a significant threat from the uncontrolled southwest border:
"We don't, actually," she told Bishop. "Border security is really important," she added. If we look at the nature of the threat and how it's evolved here in the United States homeland, it's been striking how the evolution to lone actors actually reflects how much more difficult it is for terrorists to enter into the United States.
"We look historically at the kind of attacks we've experienced here in the homeland. None of them have been connected to major illegal crossings or otherwise from the Southwest border. That said, it remains a top intelligence priority," she concluded.
The three testified just as Customs and Border Protection announced that its agents encountered 230,678 illegal aliens at southwest border in October, the first month of FY 2023. The chart below shows the Biden surge, which shows no sign of letting up.

What does Joe Biden say to the scourge of human-trafficking?
I woke up at 2:30, unable to sleep and overwhelmed by thoughts of the millions of young girls and boys who have been forced into sex-trafficking. My mind was filled with images of these children, alone and afraid, living in terror, drugged, sold, and then raped and abused every moment of their waking lives.
Anyone with a conscience would recognize the horrific evil of human-trafficking and would do what he could to end it, but for decades, our government has done nothing, and the Biden administration has actually facilitated the trade by turning its back on our open southern border.
According to the 2021 Federal Human Trafficking report covering the U.S. — a report initiated by President Trump, not by Obama or Biden — 92% of trafficking victims were engaged in sex-trafficking and 8% in forced labor, and of these totals, 57% were children. (Trump also signed the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act in 2018, the only significant legislation in recent memory.) The most recent report documents how little Biden has done in dealing with an enormous problem — for example, a decline in prosecutions once Biden entered office with a total of only 450 human-trafficking cases brought in 2021.

None of this accords with statistics from many sources, including the Human Trafficking Institute (HTI), indicating that, globally, between 40 and 50 million persons are victims of trafficking at any one time. With some 5% of the world's population and the wealth to support "demand," it could be assumed that the U.S. represents at least 5% of global trafficking cases, or 2.5 million. Anything like that would be a national disgrace — a disgrace ignored by the U.S. State Department, Homeland Security, the president and vice president, and those progressive media like the Washington Post that support them.
There are groups attempting to fight human-trafficking , including the "Underground Railroad," which attempts to step in directly and save persons exploited, and the Human Trafficking Institute, but much more needs to be done. Exodus Cry and International Justice Mission are two groups that focus on human-trafficking. Much of the effort to combat trafficking comes from evangelical Christians, those same persons whom California and other states have done so much to suppress during the COVID epidemic. The ultimate force driving this evil is the demand for young boys and girls among perverted Americans, who purchase sex like a commodity and believe they have the right to violate even young children. These criminals should be punished with the maximum that the law allows, and new laws should be written providing for even greater punishments. Jeffrey Epstein comes to mind, with his underage prostitution operation, in which some of the world's wealthiest and most famous celebrities indulged. Charges against Epstein were repeatedly dropped or reduced to practically nothing. Was this because the rich and famous did not want attention focused on their own culpability?
The Biden administration has made global warming the centerpiece of its domestic and foreign policy, but fighting climate change, a quixotic venture in any case, does nothing to save or shelter a single human being. How much would have been gained if human-trafficking had been made the focus of this administration? How proud would we be as a nation to know that we had saved a hundred thousand or a million children from lives that are cruel, painful, drugged, infested, and brief, and that we had given these children the opportunity to live in safety and with the dignity that every human being deserves? Our Declaration of Independence guarantees "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." None of this is extended to the victims of trafficking.
All the graphic details of sex-trafficking, and the terror that young children experience, is running through my head, but I can't share these online. You must imagine them for yourself, and you must determine to fight this evil with the influence you possess as an American citizen. As an "invisible" issue, human-trafficking will never rank as a political priority. Our representatives must be made aware of its importance.
If we wish to create God's vision of what our lives should be and fulfill our mission of life on Earth, we cannot turn our backs on millions of innocent children who, at this very moment, are being exploited at the hands of those to whom their fragile bodies are simply a carnal attraction.
We possess the resources to end human-trafficking in our country. This effort would involve a combination of severe punishment for those involved in trafficking and control of the border to eliminate the influence of cartels that control the sex and drug trades. With a resolute effort driven by conscience, we could end trafficking, and persons like me could sleep better at night. Most important, though, millions of children could be spared.

Biden Admin Moves To Secure Abortion Access for Unaccompanied Migrant Children

(Reuters)—The Biden administration issued a directive on Thursday saying that pregnant migrant children should be sheltered in states that allow abortions, following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that eliminated the constitutional right to abortion.
The U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in guidance issued to staff also said that girls who are sheltered in states such as Texas that ban abortion and request abortion services should be transferred to states that allow the procedure.
ORR is responsible for sheltering unaccompanied minors who enter the U.S. illegally.
The U.S. Supreme Court in June overturned Roe v. Wade, its landmark 1973 ruling that recognized a constitutional right to have an abortion. At least 20 states now have full or partial abortion bans, although some have been blocked by litigation.
About one-third of the 123,000 unaccompanied migrant children who were taken into U.S. custody in fiscal year 2021 were female, according to ORR data. The data does not identify how many of them were pregnant.
Thursday's guidance builds on a memo ORR issued last year that said pregnant unaccompanied minors should not be sheltered in Texas, after the state passed a restrictive abortion ban. The directive makes the guidance the agency's official policy.
During the Trump administration, ORR prohibited staff from facilitating abortions without permission from the agency's director. In 2019, a U.S. appeals court said that policy was unconstitutional.
Thursday's guidance ensures access to abortion and other reproductive health services for migrants who would otherwise face major hurdles in crossing state lines, according to Brigitte Amiri of the American Civil Liberties Union.
"Abortion is essential health care, and accessing it shouldn't depend on your immigration status, whether you're incarcerated, or which state you're in," Amiri said in a statement.
President Joe Biden’s pro-migration border chief Alejandro Mayorkas has pushed out his frontline deputy, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Chris Magnus.
The removal was completed Saturday after Magnus initially rejected a resignation demand on Friday morning by his boss, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
“I resigned because I believe this decision provides me with the best path for advancing my commitment to professional, innovative and community-engaged policing,” Magnus said in a statement to media outlets.
Magnus has been commissioner for 11 months, directing the Border Patrol along the border and the customs inspectors at the border gateways, such as highways and airports. His agency has 60,000 employees and an $18 billion budget.
The forced exit comes amid a government-directed inflow of at least three million economic migrants from south of the border. For almost two years, Mayorkas has shown he is willing to release millions of migrants into the U.S. economy, where they help employers and investors by nudging down wages and pushing up housing costs.
Mayorkas’ smuggled inflow is in addition to the annual inflow of one million legal immigrants and at least 500,000 visa workers.
Despite the forced exit of Magnus, there is no evidence that Biden wants to fire border chief Mayorkas for releasing so many migrants into Americans’ communities and workplaces.
Establishment media outlets are portraying Magnus as a distracted, unfocused boss who failed to impose progressive-style workplace rules on the border agents. Politico, for example, reported in October:
“He’s not in the game,” said another one of the administration officials. “Every time there’s a meeting and he’s in it, we’ll get to a conclusion and Magnus will have some sidebar issue that he wants to raise and we’re all like ‘What the fuck is that about?’”

Six of those internal critics, for example, remarked to POLITICO that they had seen Magnus fall asleep during multiple meetings, including one earlier this year on how to handle the current swell of Venezuelans crossing the border.

Democrats hoped his decades of experience running police departments and changing longstanding law enforcement cultures would bring what many had considered to be much-needed reform to the U.S. Border Patrol, an agency that is part of C.B.P.
The Border Patrol has long been criticized for its white male-dominated work force and persistent problems with discrimination both inside the agency and in its treatment of migrants.
Magnus’ progressive agenda was strongly opposed by the union representing the border patrol officers.
Establishment outlets portray Magnus’ progressive agenda as a hindrance to Mayorkas’ supposedly sincere effort to curb the huge illegal migration, despite the evidence that Mayorkas wants to bring in more migrants.
“Magnus’s ambitions to overhaul CBP put him at odds with Mayorkas and senior CBP leaders struggling to contend with record numbers of migrant arrests along the Mexico border,” according to the Washington Post.
The Associated Press even suggested that Magnus’ exit will help Biden and Mayprkas manage the migration inflow they deliberately encouraged, managed, and hide. The AP reported on November 12:
Magnus’s removal is part of a larger shakeup expected at Homeland Security as it struggles to manage migrants coming from a wider range of countries, including Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua. This comes as Republicans are likely to take control of the House in January and are expected to launch investigations into the border.
But Magnus’ forced exit is helping keep the media focus away from Mayorkas’s plan to open up more legal pathways through the border, into American workplaces, and into citizenship. For example, Breitbart News reported on November 11:

The bulk, about 194,000, are nationals from El Salvador.
Many polls show the public wants to welcome some immigration. But the polls also show deep and broad public opposition to labor migration and to the inflow of temporary contract workers into the jobs needed by the families of blue-collar and white-collar Americans.
This “Third Rail” opposition is growing, anti-establishment, multiracial, cross-sex, non-racist, class-based, bipartisan, rational, persistent, and recognizes the solidarity that American citizens owe to one another.

The victim had his hands and feet tied up and appeared to have had his pants pulled down; additionally, his pink shirt had been pulled over his head. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim nor revealed which criminal organization is responsible for the crime.
Exclusive: 40-Mile Stretch of Arizona Border Left Open, Says CBP Source
According to a source within CBP, nearly 40 miles of border near Douglas, Arizona, completely lacks patrols on most days. The source, not authorized to speak to the media, says patrolling the city takes priority for the skeleton crew of Border Patrol agents.
The source says on most shifts, roughly a dozen agents are available to patrol the city because of the need to process a surge of migrants apprehended locally and elsewhere. The number of agents is not sufficient to patrol the vast border region to the west of the city as a result.
More than 100 migrants manage to elude apprehension daily, according to the source, who also says that count is grossly inaccurate as miles of border go unwatched. The source says the lack of patrols creates an advantage for smugglers waiting to pick up migrants in the U.S. Vehicle pursuits involving the human smugglers is creating havoc on local roadways and is quickly becoming the norm, according to the source.
As part of Operation Safe Streets, a program initiated by Cochise County Sheriff Mark Daniel, deputies work with other local and state law officers to increase patrols targeting smugglers.
On Tuesday, two vehicle pursuits leaving the border region near Douglas involved speeds more than 100 miles per hour on State Route 80. Cochise County Sheriff’s deputies managed to stop both vehicles without significant injuries.
Later that same afternoon, the task force attempted to stop a 2007 Ford Edge on Highway 80 near Tombstone. The driver led authorities on a pursuit through the town at excessive speeds before officers used a tire deflation device. After a brief foot pursuit, a 31-year-old U.S. citizen from Phoenix was arrested along with a passenger and charged with Participating in Human Smuggling, Felony Flight, Endangerment, and Reckless Driving. Two migrants in the vehicle were turned over to Border Patrol.
