Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) introduced a House Bill criminalizing “conspiracy to commit white supremacy,” which includes criticism of non-white people which influences an individual to commit a hate crime.

The legislation, H.R.61 “Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023,” introduced last Monday by Democratic congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, seeks to “prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime.”

The congressional bill, which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, states that someone engages in a white supremacy inspired hate crime “when white supremacy ideology has motivated the planning, development, preparation, or perpetration of actions that constituted a crime or were undertaken in furtherance of activity that, if effectuated, would have constituted a crime.”

Accordingly, “conspiracy” to engage in white supremacy inspired hate crime entails the publishing of material “advancing white supremacy, white supremacist ideology, antagonism based on ‘replacement theory’, or hate speech that vilifies or is otherwise directed against any non-White person or group.”

It also calls for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to gain “authority to conduct operations and activities pursuant” to what it deems “necessary and appropriate to interdict, mitigate, or prevent such action from culminating in violent activity.”

The bill would grant the department authority to “prosecute” persons engaged in such actions, with “records of white supremacy inspired hate crimes” maintained and annual reports provided.

In response, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) accused Democrats of “making a mockery of the First Amendment.”

“In case you weren’t aware of what the Democrats were prioritizing in the 118th Congress, just take a look,” she wrote. “When they’re not bankrupting our country, they’re busy making a mockery of the First Amendment.”

“Who wants to tell her about the First Amendment?” asked conservative attorney Harmeet Dhillon.

“Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee just introduced a bill that would make it a federal crime for White people, and White people only, to criticize mass immigration or to say anything that she claims would vilify ‘a non-White person or group,’” wrote one Twitter user.

“Sheila Jackson Lee should be introduced to the Bill of Rights. Particularly the first amendment pertaining to free speech,” another wrote.

“This is a disturbing, yet not surprising, piece of #AntiWhite legislation,” yet another user wrote.

Previously, Jackson Lee has argued that institutional and systemic racism “taints and spoils” the way America treats minorities, adding that there are “aspects of America’s laws, America’s structure as relates to the black community in particular and other communities that is racist.”

Alabama forward Darius Miles and another man have been charged with capital murder in the shooting death of a 23-year-old woman near the university campus in Tuscaloosa Sunday morning.

Miles, who has been officially removed from the basketball team, was taken into custody and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail at 6:45 ET, according to ESPN. The shooting occurred in an area known as The Strip, near university boulevard. The victim, Jamea Harris, is from the Birmingham area.

Tuscaloosa Police Captain Jack Kennedy said that the cause of the incident appeared to be a “minor altercation.”

“At this time, it appears that the only motive was a minor altercation that these individuals had with the victim as they were out on the Strip,” Kennedy said at a news conference.

Kennedy said, “…the driver of another vehicle, in which Harris was a passenger, approached campus police near Bryant-Denny Stadium at about 1:45 a.m. saying that someone had shot into the vehicle, and he fired back. One of the suspects was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, and Kennedy declined to disclose who fired the gun or who was hurt.

“Neither the driver of the other vehicle nor Harris nor Davis appeared to be affiliated with the university.”

The University of Alabama issued a statement in response to the shooting.

“The University of Alabama’s utmost priority is the safety and well-being of the campus community,” the statement read. “We are grieved by the incident that occurred near campus last night and extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends.”

A veteran postal worker was fatally stabbed in Oakland, California, on Wednesday as she walked home from her job.

Seventy-one-year-old Dilma Spruill was attacked on the street and stabbed multiple times, KTVU reported Thursday, adding she died at the scene and a motive remains unknown.

Following the incident, law enforcement arrested 28-year-old Wilber Winchester, whom the Daily Mail described as being homeless.

In a press release, the Oakland Police Department gave more details about the suspect:

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) arrested Wilbert Winchester for the homicide of Dilma Franks-Spruill, and an attempted homicide of another individual. Both of the incidents occurred in the city of Oakland. Winchester is also being investigated in connection to several other violent assaults throughout Oakland.

The department noted the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with murder and attempted murder in the case.

“Three houses away. She was almost home, but she’s not coming home,” Spruill’s son, Miles, told reporters:

He also offered a message to the suspect, stating, “I bid you peace and I bid you farewell. You took my best friend. You took the only last living birth parent that I have.”

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. after Spruill finished her shift at work and was on her way home.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Postal Service expressed its sadness at the loss, stating, “Dilma beamed with energy, joy and brought light to all who had the pleasure to know and work alongside her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and her co-workers at this time.”

According to ABC 7, Winchester previously served three years for elder abuse.

Video footage shows community members gathering to pay their respects to their beloved neighbor:

“Everything is missing, everything. I’m numb. I’m still sick to my stomach. I don’t sleep,” Miles said, adding he wanted to “live her legacy and spirit because that’s what she would want me to do.”

As the crime wave sweeps across President Joe Biden’s (D) America, citizens are “more likely now than at any time over the past five decades to say there is more crime in their local area than there was a year ago,” Gallup reported in October.

“The 56% of U.S. adults who report an increase in crime where they live marks a five-percentage-point uptick since last year and is the highest by two points in Gallup’s trend dating back to 1972,” the article read.

Ridgeland, Miss. (AP) — A former University of Mississippi and NFL football player has been arrested in Mississippi on kidnapping charges.

Jerrell Powe, 35, remained jailed Monday in the Jackson suburb of Ridgeland with no bail set. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer to speak for him.

Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers told WLBT-TV that Powe and another person were arrested on Thursday at a bank in the city.

Myers said the kidnapping began in Laurel, 75 miles (120 kilometers) southeast of Jackson, and ended after the victim was able to contact Ridgeland police. He said the victim is safe.

Powe is scheduled to make an initial appearance before a judge on Tuesday.

Powe played defensive tackle for Ole Miss from 2008 to 2010. He finished with 69 tackles, seven sacks and an interception in 37 games. Powe was named Second-Team All-Southeastern Conference in 2009 and 2010.

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Powe in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft. He played in 12 games over three seasons for the Chiefs, garnering eight tackles and one sack. Powe played in 16 games for the Houston Texans in 2014, recording 10 tackles.
