Eric Garcetti Sworn In as Ambassador to India After Two-Year Holdup - DESPITE THE DISASTER HE LEFT IN MEXICO'S SECOND LARGEST CITY OF LOS ANGELES
Fentanyl's scourge plainly visible on streets of Los Angeles
In a filthy alley behind a Los Angeles doughnut shop, Ryan Smith convulsed in the grips of a fentanyl high — lurching from moments of slumber to bouts of violent shivering on a warm summer day.
When Brandice Josey, another homeless addict, bent down and blew a puff of fentanyl smoke his way in an act of charity, Smith sat up and slowly opened his lip to inhale the vapor as if it was the cure to his problems.
Smith, wearing a grimy yellow T-shirt that said "Good Vibes Only," reclined on his backpack and dozed the rest of the afternoon on the asphalt, unperturbed by the stench of rotting food and human waste that permeated the air.
For too many people strung out on the drug, the sleep that follows a fentanyl hit is permanent. The highly addictive and potentially lethal drug has become a scourge across America and is taking a toll on the growing number of people living on the streets of Los Angeles.
Nearly 2,000 homeless people died in the city from April 2020 to March 2021, a 56% increase from the previous year, according to a report released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Overdose was the leading cause of death, killing more than 700.
Fentanyl was developed to treat intense pain from ailments like cancer. Use of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that is cheap to produce and is often sold as is or laced in other drugs, has exploded. Because it's 50 times more potent than heroin, even a small dose can be fatal.
It has quickly become the deadliest drug in the nation, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Two-thirds of the 107,000 overdose deaths in 2021 were attributed to synthetic opioids like fentanyl, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The drug's toll spreads far beyond the streets.
Jennifer Catano, 27, has the names of two children tattooed on her wrists, but she hasn't seen them for several years. They live with her mother.
"My mom doesn't think it's a good idea because she thinks it's gonna hurt the kids because I'm not ready to get rehabilitated," Catano said.
She has overdosed three times and been through rehab seven or eight times.
"It's scary to get off of it," she said. "The withdrawals are really bad."
Catano wandered around a subway station near MacArthur Park desperate to sell a bottle of Downy fabric softener and a Coleman camping chair she stole from a nearby store.
Drug abuse can be a cause or symptom of homelessness. Both can also intersect with mental illness.
A 2019 report by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority found about a quarter of all homeless adults in Los Angeles County had mental illnesses and 14% had a substance use disorder. That analysis only counted people who had a permanent or long-term severe condition. Taking a broader interpretation of the same data, the Los Angeles Times found about 51% had mental illnesses and 46% had substance use disorders.
Billions of dollars are being spent to alleviate homelessness in California but treatment is not always funded.
A controversial bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom could improve that by forcing people suffering from severe mental illness into treatment. But they need to be diagnosed with a certain disorder such as schizophrenia and addiction alone doesn't qualify.
Help is available but it is outpaced by the magnitude of misery on the streets.
Rita Richardson, a field supervisor with LA Door, a city addiction-prevention program that works with people convicted of misdemeanors, hands out socks, water, condoms, snacks, clean needles and flyers at the same hotspots Monday through Friday. She hopes the consistency of her visits will encourage people to get help.
"Then hopefully the light bulb comes on. It might not happen this year. It might not happen next year. It might take several years," said Richardson, a former homeless addict. "My goal is to take them from the dark to the light."
Parts of Los Angeles have become scenes of desperation with men and women sprawled on sidewalks, curled up on benches and collapsed in squalid alleys. Some huddle up smoking the drug, others inject it.
Armando Rivera, 33, blew out white puffs to attract addicts in the alley where Smith was sleeping. He needed to sell some dope to buy more. Those without enough money to support their habit, hovered around him, hoping for a free hit. Rivera showed no mercy.
Catano couldn't sell the chair, but eventually she sold the fabric softener to a street vendor for $5.
It was enough money for another high.
As a result of countless stories like this, Los Angeles County leaders came together on Tuesday to announce the creation of a working group to address the fentanyl crisis "through prevention, education and enforcement."
The group consists of local law enforcement, District Attorney George Gascón and Los Angeles Unified School District officials, who will work to develop strategies that can fight the crisis head on.
"This is the number one killer of people between 18 and 45 years of age," said Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore, who said that it's time to go after suppliers of the drugs. "The prosecution of these individuals must be at the highest level."
LOS ANGEES HAS THE MOST HOMELESS AND THE MOST ILLEGALS THAN ANY SANCTUARY CITY IN AMERICA. NOT HARD TO DO THE MATH ON THAT!
LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUTS OUT MORE WELFARE FOR ILLEGALS FROM MEXICO THAN MEXICO DOES FOR THEIR OWN PEOPLE!
Heather Mac Donald of the Manhattan Institute has testified before a Congressional committee that in 2004, 95% of all outstanding warrants for murder in Los Angeles were for illegal aliens; in 2000, 23% of all Los Angeles County jail inmates were illegal aliens and that in 1995, 60% of Los Angeles’s largest street gang, the 18th Street gang, were illegal aliens.
FACTS ON THE “REAL LATINO AMERICA” OF
MEXICAN OCCUPIED LOS ANGELES:

This is another "fact" spun from the 2004 op-ed by Heather Mac Donald, whose article refers to a single Los Angeles gang and the conjecture of an unnamed federal prosecutor.
1. "40% of all workers in L.A. County are working for cash and not paying taxes. . . This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card." The Mexican tax-free economy in Los Angeles County is estimated to be in excess of $2 billion dollars a year.
2. "95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens . . . "
3. "75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens."
4. "Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers." The County of Los Angeles hands Mexico’s anchor baby breeders more than a BILLION DOLLARS a year in welfare.
5. "Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally." California has the largest and most expensive prison system in the country. Half the inmates are now Mexicans. Half the murders in California are by Mexican gangs.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. "The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border."
8. "Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal immigrants."
9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English, 3.9 million speak Spanish.
City Council Resolution Formally Declares Los Angeles a ‘Sanctuary City’
The Los Angeles City Council formally approved a resolution Friday declaring the City of Angels a “sanctuary city” for illegal aliens.
The council unanimously passed the resolution in a 12-0 vote, formally declaring Los Angeles “a city of sanctuary” for those residing in the U.S. illegally “who have been under attack in this Trump era,” CBS Los Angeles reported.
“We declare, for all those who have been under attack in this Trump era, that this city, in this day, in this time, will be a city of sanctuary,” City Councilman Gil Cedillo said. “It will be a place where people will know that they will be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, and not by who they choose to love, and not by when they got here. They will be judged by their contributions to our city.”
The council’s non-binding resolution was more of a symbolic gesture, as it does not change the city’s laws.
But the resolution did allow the city to create a commission tasked with investigating civil rights violations and imposing a $125,000 to $250,000 fine on those who commit acts of violence or harassment.
Friday’s resolution made Los Angeles’s sanctuary city status official, but the Los Angeles Police Department has had longstanding sanctuary policies on the books.
Officers have been told not to arrest individuals just because they entered the U.S. illegally and bar federal immigration authorities from access to county jails without a federal warrant.
In 2017, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also promoted the city’s sanctuary policies prohibiting federal immigration officials from enforcing federal laws on illegal immigration at the local level.
When President Trump announced that year that the federal government would withhold federal funding from cities that did not enforce federal laws on illegal immigration, Garcetti defended Los Angeles’s position as a sanctuary city.

Los Angeles County report confirms that deputy gangs are rampant in Sheriff’s Department
On March 3, a special counsel charged with oversight of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) issued a report that documents deputy gangs engaging in “egregious conduct such as violations of law, the excessive use of force [and] threats to the public or Department members.”
According to the special counsel, deputy gangs operating over the last 50 years in patrol stations located in predominantly working class and minority neighborhoods, including the Banditos, Executioners, Regulators, Spartans, Grim Reapers, Rattlesnakes and Vikings, recruit male deputy sheriffs based on their ethnicity and willingness to engage in violence and coverups.
The report states that among the 80 or so people interviewed, “several witnesses would only testify anonymously and some did so remotely, using a voice distortion device out of fear of physical or professional retaliation. Several witnesses who had agreed to testify withdrew, often the night before the proposed testimony, out of similar fears.”
The report accuses prior Sheriff Alex Villanueva, who lost reelection last November, of “appointing known tattooed members of Deputy Gangs and Deputy Cliques to leadership positions in the Department” and “permitting the revival of emblems signifying membership in such groups.”
“The claim that Deputy Gangs no longer exist in the Department is flatly and inarguably false,” according to the report.
The Rand Corporation reports that 15 to 20 percent of LASD deputies join gangs. Membership is usually confirmed by a leg tattoo, frequently bearing a sequential roman numeral. “Inking parties” are held to initiate new members at the gang’s chosen tattoo parlor after a deputy-involved shooting or other act of brutality. Deputies have been observed using language, gestures and even graffiti associated with the street gangs they are supposedly policing, while aggressively targeting co-workers they deem “rats.”
Deputy gangs were originally dominated by white men, but, like the LASD itself, are now increasingly Latino. African American and female deputies are generally excluded.
The population of Los Angeles County is almost 10 million, one out of every 35 people who live in the United States today. The county alone is more populous than 40 of the 50 states. Riven by extreme social inequality, with 30 billionaires and almost 70,000 people unhoused, Los Angeles County consists of pockets of ostentatious wealth, mostly concentrated in Westside communities such as Malibu, Beverly Hills and Bel Air, alongside massive working class communities that include large populations of recent immigrants crammed into neighborhoods circling downtown, and fanning south to the San Pedro harbor and east to borders with San Bernardino and Orange Counties.
The LASD employs 15,000 people, about half of whom are sworn deputies, and runs the country’s largest jail system, with an average daily inmate population also numbering about 15,000. Typically, after several years in the jails, deputies are assigned to patrol at one of the 23 substations that cover unincorporated county communities and the 42 cities that contract with the LASD rather than operate their own police department. With an annual budget of $3.6 billion, the LASD is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United States.
Deputy gangs arise out of the need for force to maintain social inequality. They epitomize the thuggery rampant in such “special bodies of armed men”—the apt description Engels and Lenin used for law enforcement agencies under bourgeois rule, which captures their essential role as defenders of capitalist exploitation.
LASD deputy gangs date back at least to the “Little Red Devils” formed in the early 1970s by white deputies assigned to the East Los Angeles substation, nicknamed “Fort Apache” after the John Wayne movie that glamorized a cavalry outpost in the genocidal wars waged against Native Americans.
As spearheads in the suppression of mass demonstrations against the Vietnam War during the “Chicano Moratorium,” the Little Red Devils’ most prominent casualty was Los Angeles Times commentator Ruben Salazar, who died after being struck in the head by a teargas canister fired into a bar where he sought refuge from rampaging deputies. A subsequently 1973 report on these events identified 38 deputies from the East Los Angeles substation with sequentially numbered tattoos of a devil, the first official acknowledgment that deputy gangs were “inking.”
In the early 1990s media reports and litigation exposed the Vikings, a particularly violent deputy gang at the Lynwood substation, the existence of which was confirmed in the 1992 report of an earlier special counsel, James G. Kolts. In a federal civil rights lawsuit, District Judge Terry J. Hatter accurately labeled the Vikings “a neo-Nazi, white supremacist gang,” and the county subsequently paid $9 million to settle injury claims asserted by dozens of the Vikings’ victims.
Although never proved in court, Vikings were suspected to have perpetrated the still unsolved drive-by shooting of Lloyd Polk, after he brokered a peace meeting among rival Lynwood street gangs.
As detailed in the recent special counsel report, deputy gangs have metastasized throughout the LASD. A tattooed founding member of the Vikings, Paul Tanaka, rose to the rank of undersheriff, second in command, and was noted to have actively promoted several Vikings and Regulators into higher management positions. Tanaka and former Sheriff Lee Baca were convicted of conspiring to block the FBI from investigating jail abuses. Tanaka was sentenced to five years federal imprisonment and Baca three.
Baca’s successor, Jim McDonnell, took down the “Fort Apache” logo at the East Los Angeles substation, but Villanueva restored it after defeating McDonnell in 2018 with the backing of prominent Democrats, who openly campaigned for a sheriff “of color.” (Villanueva is half Polish and half Puerto Rican. He speaks Spanish fluently.) Villanueva also rehired and elevated to his inner circle Carl Mandoyan, a tattooed member of the Grim Reapers, the deputy gang formed at the South Los Angeles substation, whose emblem is a faceless, black-robed figure carrying a scythe, the symbol of death.
At the East Los Angeles substation, the Banditos grew to replace the Cavemen, a deputy gang that had replaced the Little Red Devils. The tattoo is a skull with a thick mustache, wearing a bandolier and sombrero, and brandishing a gun. According to one witness, “Banditos had to be Mexican American, Central Americans could not become Banditos.” As is the practice in other deputy gangs, a shooting allowed the member to embellish the barrel of his tattooed firearm with smoke.
One deputy gang, the “Jump Out Boys,” actually formed within the LASD’s own anti-gang detail, “Operation Safe Streets” (OSS). The tattoo depicts a red-eyed skull wearing a bandana adorned with the letters “OSS” and holding a revolver next to an ace and eight of spades, symbolizing the “dead man’s hand” in poker.
Even helicopter deputies formed a racist group, the “Ghetto Birds,” founded by a deputy with a Viking tattoo. The report suggests that the gang has been successful over the years in excluding African American deputies from the Aero Bureau.
According to the report, there are at least a half dozen deputy gangs currently active at LASD patrol stations in working class areas. The official tattoo of one, the Compton-based Executioners, is a skeleton with a German World War II helmet holding an automatic rifle.
These gangs, or “cliques” as the report sometimes soft-pedals them, “run the stations or units where they exist ... often decide assignments and shifts, training, and overtime; exclude deputies from the Deputy Cliques, often based on race, ethnicity or gender; intimidate deputies that are not part of the Deputy Cliques; give orders not to provide backup to disfavored deputies who are not members of the Deputy Cliques,” and “order work slowdowns if management of a station attempts to rein them in.”
“Most troubling,” the report explains, “they create rituals that valorize violence, such as recording all deputy involved shootings in an official book, celebrating with ‘shooting parties,’ and authorizing deputies who have shot a community member to add embellishments to their common gang tattoos.”
The deputy gangs “operate in secrecy; lie in reports to protect each other; and threaten the public with use of excessive force without justification and belittle deputies unwilling to engage in such acts,” the report concludes.
Like their more overtly neo-fascist counterparts, such as the “Oath Keepers” who spearheaded the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, deputy gangs cannot be eliminated by reforms because they are organically tied to the class struggle the deputies are employed to suppress. That is why deputy gangs can only be eliminated through the overthrow of capitalist property by the international working class.
In 2017, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti also promoted the city’s sanctuary policies prohibiting federal immigration officials from enforcing federal laws on illegal immigration at the local level.
Eric Garcetti Sworn In as Ambassador to India After Two-Year Holdup
Former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) was sworn in as U.S. ambassador to India on Friday after seven Republicans sided with Democrats in a vote this month to push his confirmation through the Senate.
Vice President Kamala Harris led the swearing-in process as Garcetti recited the oath of office, a moment nearly two years in the making after his initial nomination was tabled in 2021 amid sexual harassment claims against a top Garcetti aide.
“Ambassador Garcetti is a committed public servant and will play a critical role in strengthening our partnership with the people of India,” Harris said in a statement after the event.
The ambassador position had been open for two years after Biden first nominated the then-mayor in July 2021.
The nomination initially never made it to the Senate floor, however, as Garcetti had been accused of having knowledge about his aide Rick Jacobs allegedly sexually harassing members of their office in L.A.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) issued a report last year that found it was “more likely than not that Mayor Garcetti either had personal knowledge of the sexual harassment or should have been aware of it.”
Jacobs has, however, denied any wrongdoing, Garcetti has maintained that he had no knowledge of any wrongdoing, and the White House has stood by the former mayor, renominating him in January and praising him as “well-qualified” for the role.
The final vote count in the Senate, 52 to 42 with six absences, was unusual in that typically hardline Republicans like Sens. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Steve Daines (R-MT) defected to vote for the California Democrat, while far-left Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) voted with Republicans.
The Senate Republicans who ended up voting for Garcetti largely conveyed that they were concerned with filling a role that is critical to the U.S. as it competes with China on the world stage and were therefore willing to overlook Garcetti’s perceived flaws, such as the claims against his aide and controversies like his handling of coronavirus or the rampant homelessness he oversaw in L.A.
Hirono appeared concerned with the harassment allegations, cryptically saying in a statement, per the New York Times, “I received additional information that, when taken in its totality with the information already available, has led me to be a ‘no’ on Mr. Garcetti’s nomination.”
Try the reality that illegal immigrants are routinely given free public housing by the U.S., based on the fact that they are uneducated, unskilled, and largely unemployable. Those are the criteria, and now importing poverty has never been easier. Shockingly, this comes as millions of poor Americans are out in the cold awaiting that housing that the original law was intended to help.
Thus, the tent cities, and by coincidence, the worst of these emerging shantytowns are in blue sanctuary cities loaded with illegal immigrants - Orange County, San Francisco, San Diego, Seattle, New York...Is there a connection? At a minimum, it's worth looking at. MONICA SHOWALTER

Gavin Newsom, Local Lawmakers Argue over Responsibility of Homelessness in California
California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom and local lawmakers argue over who should be responsible for the homelessness plaguing the state, as the governor threatened to withhold funds from those who dispute liability, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
The Democrat governor and local government officials, including many from his own political party, are arguing over the responsibility for the lack of progress in battling the ongoing homelessness problem across America’s most populated state.
The report explained that Newsom recently placed a temporary hold on $1 billion of state grants that were meant for city and county homelessness programs as he rejected the proposals from the officials that outlined how they would spend the money. He said the proposal was inadequate, even though it would have reportedly reduced homelessness statewide by two percent from 2020 to 2024.
People who work in state politics say Mr. Newsom’s policy moves and comments echo many Californians’ rising frustration over housing costs and homelessness, and indicate a willingness by the governor, who recently won re-election, to pick fights with local leaders to try to get results in his second term.
Mayors and county officials, meanwhile, have said they need the Newsom administration to provide reliable, recurring revenue streams and a cohesive statewide framework to address the issue. Instead, they said, most state money comes in one-time allocations with little guidance.
Many mayors were also rankled when Mr. Newsom told the Los Angeles Times he froze the homelessness funds because local leaders needed to “deliver damn results,” adding that he would be willing to play “mayor of California” if they didn’t.

However, WSJ explained that local officials had said that withholding the money they were already expecting is making the problem worse. On the matter, Los Angeles Democrat Mayor Eric Garcetti said, “Lives are on the line, and we can’t afford for this work to get mired in more politics.”
The WSJ said that according to advocates, “Problems including bureaucratic slowdowns and community resistance have made it difficult to deliver services.” At the same time, researchers also said that “even as some people are successfully sheltered, others will keep falling into homelessness until housing becomes more affordable.”
Newsom recently met with over 100 local leaders and agreed at the time to release the funds he put a hold on if each jurisdiction agreed to submit a better proposal by the end of November. According to a spokesman for the governor, 21 jurisdictions had agreed and were expected to receive the frozen funds sometime this week.
For years in California, there have been disagreements over who should be in charge of the homelessness problem, as the state reportedly has over 116,000 residents sleeping on the streets — the most in the United States — in addition to being one of the most expensive housing markets across the county.
The WSJ also noted that under Newsom, the state saw a roughly 15 percent increase in the homeless population since 2019, despite having the most significant funding increase to fight the problem. In fact, since the start of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, the state has committed around $15 billion towards homelessness, according to reports. Additionally, some majority cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco also raised taxes to help combat the problem as well.
The state’s homelessness problem also comes as Newson again reaffirmed his promise to Politico that he will not try to challenge President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election, despite his efforts of building a massive digital operation before the 2022 midterms.

Additionally, while the Democrat governor has been facing problems in his own state, he spent time during his reelection bid, which he largely ignored, attacking Republican governors who were running for reelection and are potential 2024 presidential candidates, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. He even spent money running negative ads in Florida.
Over the last five years, Newsom has won three elections in America’s most populated state. He won his gubernatorial race in 2018 and 2022 and had to go through a recall election in 2021.
Senate Majority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) suggests an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens eligible and enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is necessary to spike the United States population even as a record 331.9 million people reside in the U.S.
During a press conference this month, Schumer and other Senate Democrats urged ten Senate Republicans to back an amnesty for 3.3 million illegal aliens enrolled and eligible for Obama’s DACA program — providing them with green cards to remain permanently in the U.S. and, eventually, gain naturalized American citizenship.
As part of that plea, Schumer said an amnesty for millions of illegal aliens is necessary to drive up the U.S. population and low birth rates among Americans.
“… we have a population that is not reproducing on its own at the same level that it used to,” Schumer said. “The only way we’re going to have a great future in America is if we welcome and embrace immigrants, the DREAMers, and all of them.”
Schumer also said the Democrats’ “ultimate goal” is to provide amnesty to all 11 to 22 million illegal aliens living across the U.S.

The suggestion comes as the U.S. population has increased to the highest total in history, hitting 331,893,745 residents in 2021, driven mostly by legal immigration. For comparison, the population in 1970 stood at 203 million residents.
At current legal immigration levels, whereby more than a million foreign nationals are given green cards annually, the nation’s foreign-born population is expected to hit 70 million by 2060. In 1970, the foreign-born population was fewer than ten million.
Likewise, Schumer’s claim that an amnesty for illegal aliens would boost low birth rates among Americans is unlikely as fertility rates among foreign-born Americans have dropped more rapidly than fertility rates among native-born Americans.
“The total fertility rate for all women (immigrant and native-born) in America in 2019 was 1.76. Excluding immigrants, it would be 1.69 — the rate for natives. The difference is .06 children, or a 4 percent increase in overall total fertility rate in the United States,” Center for Immigration Studies research shows, suggesting more immigration would have a minimal impact on the nation’s low birth rate.
Unmentioned by Democrats, as well as many Republican lawmakers, is crafting a national family agenda that would help boost American birth rates. Hungary’s government has implemented such an agenda, focusing on economic initiatives to make it less expensive for parents to raise children while working.
Since 2010, Hungary’s fertility rate has increased from 1.25 to 1.59 births per woman.

This California Dem Just Killed a Bill That Would Keep Violent Criminals In Jail. She's Also Married to California's Attorney General.
Rob and Mia Bonta are known for their soft-on-crime policies and ethical controversies
California assemblywoman Mia Bonta (D.), the wife of California’s attorney general, on Tuesday unilaterally killed a bill that would raise sentencing for violent crimes committed with guns.
Bonta was one of several Democrats on the assembly’s public safety committee who voted to sink the proposal, from freshman Republican assemblyman Bill Essayli. But in a highly unusual move, Bonta went beyond a simple no vote and blocked Essayli’s request to revise and reintroduce his legislation. The Democratic majority did not intervene, allowing her to table the bill for the rest of the session.
Bonta’s maneuver comes as violent crime, including homicide and rape, is spiking statewide. As the state’s top cop, Rob Bonta aligns with progressive prosecutors like Los Angeles’s George Gascon, whose "progressive" policies have led to a rise in crime. Rob Bonta has largely dedicated his office’s resources to investigating law enforcement and promoting social justice.
A legislative staffer for the assembly told the Washington Free Beacon that he had never seen a member block a bill from reconsideration in 10 years of working in the state capitol.
Essayli’s bill would have required California judges to add jail time on sentences for criminals who used guns in commission of a violent crime. The proposal would have partially repealed a 2017 state law giving judges the option to dismiss such "sentencing enhancements," and a newly enforceable 2022 law requires judges to drop additional jail time "if it is in the furtherance of justice to do so."
Law enforcement and victims’ advocates urged lawmakers to pass the bill, describing murders and violence they claimed were on the rise because of the state’s "soft-on-crime" policies.
During his testimony, Essayli noted that gun violence primarily affects minority communities like Oakland, which Bonta represents. Essayli noted that in 2020, 65 percent of Oakland's homicide victims were black, and recounted the story of a murder victim's mother who said she could never really heal "if there is no justice."
This appeal seemed to strike a nerve with Bonta, who snapped: "You don't need to talk to me about mothers in Oakland." The assemblywoman then claimed that her constituents were not as worried about gun violence as by the prospect of having "their sons and brothers and fathers and mothers being taken away from them because of the disproportionate impact that enhancements have had on their community."
"Longer sentencing does not prevent crime, certainty of apprehension does," Bonta said Tuesday. Committee chair Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D.) also took a shot at Essayli’s credibility.
"You’re new, you’re a freshman," Jones-Sawyer said, noting that Essayli did not appreciate the assembly’s efforts throughout "a long, 10-year process to be able to make the justice system more just."
The Bontas came under fire last month when Mia, who succeeded her husband after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) named him attorney general in 2021, was tapped to oversee her husband’s department budget, a move experts said was ethically dubious. No strangers to criticism, the couple came under fire during Rob Bonta’s tenure in the legislature, when he established a foundation that funneled money to the nonprofit where his wife earned six figures as the CEO.
Mia Bonta’s office did not respond to a request for comment.
More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.

California Makes History: First State in U.S. Giving Food Stamps to Illegal Aliens
The sanctuary state of California will make history by becoming the first state in the nation to give food stamps to illegal aliens.
This week, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) announced a budget deal with Democrat state legislators that includes providing food stamps, paid for by California’s taxpayers, to illegal aliens 55 and older — the first initiative of its kind in the United States.
An executive with the group Nourish California told the Fresno Bee that the policy is historic for the state, saying, “California is once again making history by removing xenophobic exclusions to our state’s safety net.”
Expansion of the state’s CalFresh food stamps program will cost California’s taxpayers more than $35 million and about 75,000 illegal aliens are expected to enroll every year.
The move comes as Newsom’s budget deal will also ensure that California is the first state in the nation to provide taxpayer-funded health insurance to all of its 3.3 million illegal aliens.
Offering taxpayer-funded health insurance to its entire illegal alien population, the largest in the nation, is expected to cost California’s taxpayers about $2.4 billion annually. The plan is scheduled to begin in 2024.

Biden’s border policy uses American taxpayers to ‘enrich’ cartels: Rep. Scott Perry
"Mexican president candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador called for mass immigration to the United States, declaring it a "human right". We will defend all the (Mexican) invaders in the American," Obrador said, adding that immigrants "must leave their towns and find a life, job, welfare, and free medical in the United States."
"Fox’s Tucker Carlson noted Thursday that Obrador has previously proposed granting AMNESTY TO MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS. “America is now Mexico’s social safety net, and that’s a very good deal for the Mexican ruling class,” Carlson added."
"Many Americans forget is that our country is located against a socialist failed state that is promising to descend even further into chaos – not California, the other one. And the Mexicans, having reached the bottom of the hole they have dug for themselves, just chose to keep digging by electing a new leftist presidente who wants to surrender to the cartels and who thinks that Mexicans have some sort of “human right” to sneak into the U.S. and demographically reconquer it." As in 2016, Democrats advance a corrupt ruling-class candidate. More than 7-in-10 households headed by immigrants in the state of California are on taxpayer-funded welfare, a new study reveals.
The latest Census Bureau data analyzed by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) finds that about 72 percent of households headed by noncitizens and immigrants use one or more forms of taxpayer-funded welfare programs in California — the number one immigrant-receiving state in the U.S.
Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of households headed by native-born Americans use welfare in California.
All four states with the largest foreign-born populations, including California, have extremely high use of welfare by immigrant households. In Texas, for example, nearly 70 percent of households headed by immigrants use taxpayer-funded welfare. Meanwhile, only about 35 percent of native-born households in Texas are on welfare.
In New York and Florida, a majority of households headed by immigrants and noncitizens are on welfare. Overall, about 63 percent of immigrant households use welfare while only 35 percent of native-born households use welfare.
President Trump’s administration is looking to soon implement a policy that protects American taxpayers’ dollars from funding the mass importation of welfare-dependent foreign nationals by enforcing a “public charge” rule whereby legal immigrants would be less likely to secure a permanent residency in the U.S. if they have used any forms of welfare in the past, including using Obamacare, food stamps, and public housing.
The immigration controls would be a boon for American taxpayers in the form of an annual $57.4 billion tax cut — the amount taxpayers spend every year on paying for the welfare, crime, and schooling costs of the country’s mass importation of 1.5 million new, mostly low-skilled legal immigrants.
As Breitbart News reported, the majority of the more than 1.5 million foreign nationals entering the country every year use about 57 percent more food stamps than the average native-born American household. Overall, immigrant households consume 33 percent more cash welfare than American citizen households and 44 percent more in Medicaid dollars. This straining of public services by a booming 44 million foreign-born population translates to the average immigrant household costing American taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare.

THE NEW PRIVILEGED CLASS: Illegals!
This is why you work From Jan - May paying taxes to the government ....with the rest of the calendar year is money for you and your family.
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, with his fake Social Security number, he gets an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200..... free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent.
He qualifies for food stamps.
He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled, they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare. All of this is at (our) taxpayer's expense.
He doesn't worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after Paying their bills and his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
THE TAX-FREE MEXICAN UNDERGROUND ECONOMY IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY IS ESTIMATED TO BE IN EXCESS OF $2 BILLION YEARLY!
Staggering expensive "cheap" Mexican labor did not build this once great nation! Look what it has done to Mexico. It's all about keeping wages depressed and passing along the true cost of the invasion, their welfare, and crime tidal wave costs to the backs of the American people!
This annual income for an impoverished American family is $10,000 less than the more than $34,500 in federal funds which are spent on each unaccompanied minor border crosser.
A study by Tom Wong of the University of California at San Diego discovered that more than 25 percent of DACA-enrolled illegal aliens in the program have anchor babies. That totals about 200,000 anchor babies who are the children of DACA-enrolled illegal aliens. This does not include the anchor babies of DACA-qualified illegal aliens. JOHN BINDER

As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.
Simultaneously, illegal immigration next year is on track to soar to the highest level in a decade, with a potential 600,000 border crossers expected.
“More than 750 million people want to migrate to another country permanently, according to Gallup research published Monday, as 150 world leaders sign up to the controversial UN global compact which critics say makes migration a human right.” VIRGINIA HALE
For example, a DACA amnesty would cost American taxpayers about $26 billion, more than the border wall, and that does not include the money taxpayers would have to fork up to subsidize the legal immigrant relatives of DACA illegal aliens.
Exclusive–Steve Camarota: Every Illegal Alien Costs Americans $70K Over Their Lifetime
Every illegal alien, over the course of their lifetime, costs American taxpayers about $70,000, Center for Immigration Studies Director of Research Steve Camarota says.
During an interview with SiriusXM Patriot’s Breitbart News Daily, Camarota said his research has revealed the enormous financial burden that illegal immigration has on America’s working and middle class taxpayers in terms of public services, depressed wages, and welfare.
“In a person’s lifetime, I’ve estimated that an illegal border crosser might cost taxpayers … maybe over $70,000 a year as a net cost,” Camarota said. “And that excludes the cost of their U.S.-born children, which gets pretty big when you add that in.”
LISTEN:
“Once [an illegal alien] has a child, they can receive cash welfare on behalf of their U.S.-born children,” Camarota explained. “Once they have a child, they can live in public housing. Once they have a child, they can receive food stamps on behalf of that child. That’s how that works.”
Camarota said the education levels of illegal aliens, border crossers, and legal immigrants are largely to blame for the high level of welfare usage by the f0reign-born population in the U.S., noting that new arrivals tend to compete for jobs against America’s poor and working class communities.
In past waves of mass immigration, Camarota said, the U.S. did not have an expansive welfare system. Today’s ever-growing welfare system, coupled with mass illegal and legal immigration levels, is “extremely problematic,” according to Camarota, for American taxpayers.
The RAISE Act — reintroduced in the Senate by Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), David Perdue (R-GA), and Josh Hawley (R-MO) — would cut legal immigration levels in half and convert the immigration system to favor well-educated foreign nationals, thus relieving American workers and taxpayers of the nearly five-decade-long wave of booming immigration. Currently, mass legal immigration redistributes the wealth of working and middle class Americans to the country’s top earners.
“Virtually none of that existed in 1900 during the last great wave of immigration, when we also took in a number of poor people. We didn’t have a well-developed welfare state,” Camarota continued:
We’re not going to stop [the welfare state] tomorrow. So in that context, bringing in less educated people who are poor is extremely problematic for public coffers, for taxpayers in a way that it wasn’t in 1900 because the roads weren’t even paved between the cities in 1900. It’s just a totally different world. And that’s the point of the RAISE Act is to sort of bring in line immigration policy with the reality say of a large government … and a welfare state. [Emphasis added]
The immigrants are not all coming to get welfare and they don’t immediately sign up, but over time, an enormous fraction sign their children up. It’s likely the case that of the U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants, more than half are signed up for Medicaid — which is our most expensive program. [Emphasis added]
As Breitbart News has reported, U.S. households headed by foreign-born residents use nearly twice the welfare of households headed by native-born Americans.
Every year the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million foreign nationals, with the vast majority deriving from chain migration. In 2017, the foreign-born population reached a record high of 44.5 million. By 2023, the Center for Immigration Studies estimates that the legal and illegal immigrant population of the U.S. will make up nearly 15 percent of the entire U.S. population.

Another line they cut into: Illegals get free public housing as impoverished Americans wait
Want some perspective on why so many blue sanctuary cities have so many homeless encampments hovering around?
The Trump administration's Department of Housing and Urban Development is finally trying to put a stop to it as 1.5 million illegals prepare to enter the U.S. this year, and one can only wonder why they didn't do it yesterday.
The plan would scrap Clinton-era regulations that allowed illegal immigrants to sign up for assistance without having to disclose their status.
Under the new Trump rules, not only would the leaseholder using public housing have to be an eligible U.S. person, but the government would verify all applicants through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database, a federal system that’s used to weed illegal immigrants out of other welfare programs.
Those already getting HUD assistance would have to go through a new verification, though it would be over a period of time and wouldn’t all come at once.
“We’ve got our own people to house and need to take care of our citizens,” an administration official told The Washington Times. “Because of past loopholes in HUD guidance, illegal aliens were able to live in free public housing desperately needed by so many of our own citizens. As illegal aliens attempt to swarm our borders, we’re sending the message that you can’t live off of American welfare on the taxpayers’ dime.”
The Times notes that the rules are confusingly contradictary, and some illegal immigrant families are getting full rides based on just one member being born in the U.S. The pregnant caravaner who calculatingly slipped across the U.S. in San Diego late last year, only to have her baby the next day, now, along with her entire family, gets that free ride on government housing. Plus lots of cheesy news coverage about how heartwarming it all is. That's a lot cheaper than any housing she's going to find back in Tegucigalpa.
Migrants would be almost fools not to take the offering.
The problem of course is that Americans who paid into these programs, and the subset who find themselves in dire circumstances, are in fact being shut out.
The fill-the-pews Catholic archbishops may love to tout the virtues of illegal immigrants and wave signs about getting 'justice" for them, but the hard fact here is that these foreign nationals are stealing from others as they take this housing benefit under legal technicalities. That's not a good thing under anyone's theological law. But hypocrisy is comfortable ground for the entire open borders lobby as they shamelessly celebrate lawbreaking at the border, leaving the impoverished of the U.S. out cold.
The Trump administration is trying to have this outrage fixed by summer. But don't imagine it won't be without the open-borders lawsuits, the media sob stories, the leftist judges, and the scolding clerics.
Los Angeles County Pays Over a Billion in Welfare to Illegal Aliens Over Two Years
In 2015 and 2016, Los Angeles County paid nearly $1.3 billion in welfare funds to illegal aliens and their families. That figure amounts to 25 percent of the total spent on the county’s entire needy population, according to Fox News.
The state of California is home to more illegal aliens than any other state in the country. Approximately one in five illegal aliens lives in California, Pew reported.
Approximately a quarter of California’s 4 million illegal immigrants reside in Los Angeles County. The county allows illegal immigrant parents with children born in the United States to seek welfare and food stamp benefits.
The welfare benefits data acquired by Fox News comes from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services and shows welfare and food stamp costs for the county’s entire population were $3.1 billion in 2015, $2.9 billion in 2016.
The data also shows that during the first five months of 2017, more than 60,000 families received a total of $181 million.
Over 58,000 families received a total of $602 million in benefits in 2015 and more than 64,000 families received a total of $675 million in 2016.
Robert Rector, a Heritage Foundation senior fellow who studies poverty and illegal immigration, told Fox the costs represent “the tip of the iceberg.”
“They get $3 in benefits for every $1 they spend,” Rector said. It can cost the government a total of $24,000 per year per family to pay for things like education, police, fire, medical, and subsidized housing.
In February of 2019, the Los Angeles city council signed a resolution making it a sanctuary city. The resolution did not provide any new legal protections to their immigrants, but instead solidified existing policies.
In October 2017, former California governor Jerry Brown signed SB 54 into law. This bill made California, in Brown’s own words, a “sanctuary state.” The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the State of California over the law. A federal judge dismissed that suit in July. SB 54 took effect on Jan. 1, 2018.
According to Center for Immigration Studies, “The new law does many things: It forbids all localities from cooperating with ICE detainer notices, it bars any law enforcement officer from participating in the popular 287(g) program, and it prevents state and local police from inquiring about individuals’ immigration status.”
Some counties in California have protested its implementation and joined the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the state.
California’s campaign to provide public services to illegal immigrants did not end with the exit of Jerry Brown. His successor, Gavin Newsom, is just as focused as Brown in funding programs for illegal residents at the expense of California taxpayers.
California’s budget earmarks millions of dollars annually to the One California program, which provides free legal assistance to all aliens, including those facing deportation, and makes California’s public universities easier for illegal-alien students to attend.
According to the Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on United States Taxpayers 2017 report, for the estimated 12.5 million illegal immigrants living in the country, the resulting cost is a $116 billion burden on the national economy and taxpayers each year, after deducting the $19 billion in taxes paid by some of those illegal immigrants.

A DACA amnesty would put more citizen children of illegal aliens — known as “anchor babies” — on federal welfare, as Breitbart News reported, while American taxpayers would be left potentially with a $26 billion bill.
Additionally, about one-in-five DACA illegal aliens, after an amnesty, would end up on food stamps, while at least one-in-seven would go on Medicaid. JOHN BINDER

Another line they cut into: Illegals get free public housing as impoverished Americans wait
Want some perspective on why so many blue sanctuary cities have so many homeless encampments hovering around?

Will the Last One to Leave California Please Turn on the Lights
Living in the land of denial doesn’t automatically come with a passport. It does, however, require a commitment to suspend reality. Take California… please. If Ronald Reagan's America was a shining city on a hill, then California is the state that has been living in the darkest corner of its shadows. In actuality, it's a place that resembles one of its most famous residents -- Disneyland -- in that it has managed to create its own mythology and then live according to its own set of fantasy-based rules.
Rule number one is "if you can dream it, you can do it." Most of us who put on our pants one leg at a time know that dreams are wish lists, not to-do lists, but not in the Golden State. There, reality is the enemy of progress and of reaching for the stars. Speaking of stars, the Academy Awards is over (thankfully) and this quintessentially California-style event has shown that the state and the industry are in the business of changing our culture not reflecting it -- something particularly common to Hollywood. The California of the past, back in the 'good old days' of the 19th century, was a beacon whose light shone high above its soaring mountains -- all the way to the East Coast. Like the movie premier searchlights, it sent a signal to pioneers to "go west, young man" (thanks to Horace Greeley, the editor of the New York Tribune, for that one). Greeley is reported to have said, "Washington [D.C.] is not a place to live in. The rents are high, the food is bad, the dust is disgusting and the morals are deplorable. Go West, young man, go West and grow up with the country."
Greeley's message was unmistakable and remarkable because it came from a committed Republican and moral man who promoted the land of milk and honey as a place for people like himself. But that was then. California has since become the reincarnation of the biblical city of Sodom and Gomorrah where living a morally-based life is as rare as an Elvis sighting in Siberia. Since Greeley's time, the state has been locked in a perpetual state of puberty. Always the rebelling adolescent, California has lived on the edge of its own hormones, trying to create a Utopian society where "every man's a king." Thanks to Huey Long for that in his radio address in 1934 which extolled the virtues of socialism: "I contend, my friends, that we have no difficult problem to solve in America, and that is the view of nearly everyone with whom I have discussed the matter here in Washington and elsewhere throughout the United States -- that we have no very difficult problem to solve. It is not the difficulty of the problem which we have; it is the fact that the rich people of this country -- and by rich people I mean the super-rich -- will not allow us to solve the problems, or rather the one little problem that is afflicting this country, because in order to cure all of our woes it is necessary to scale down the big fortunes, that we may scatter the wealth to be shared by all of the people."
Actually, while modern-day Californians may like to wear the T-shirt that says "I did it my way," the truth is that the state has an unwritten motto: "One opinion, strictly enforced, is better than many." This is especially true when that opinion originates from the 'woke' politicians and the academic intelligentsia. But California wasn't always that way. For a century or more it was a place where a man and his family could carve out a comfortable living and be either left alone to enjoy the fruits of their labors or join with others who shared a more communal view of life. Somewhere along the way, the state closed its mind and its borders to conservatism and adopted a one-party mentality, complete with a set of blinders which could be worn any time a contrarian view came to mind. Most citizens adopted the 'group think' mentality proffered by the extreme Left… as long as their personal economies weren't suffering.
Californians were like the proverbial frog that's being slowly boiled to death one degree at a time. A few more taxes here and few more regulations there became a lot more taxes here and a lot more regulations there. Many California homeowners found themselves being squeezed by rapidly-increasing property tax rates and onerous and costly environmental regulations while their communities were frantically trying to fund enormous unfunded liabilities like sky-high pensions guaranteed to municipal workers. No one wanted their ox gored. So, when it became clear that no economic or ideological turnaround was in the cards, the 'great Californian exodus' began.
Families that either couldn't make ends meet or who disagreed with government, school, or corporate policies that were turning their lives upside down, put their homes up for sale while they searched for a 'new California' that resembled the 'old California' that valued personal freedom and offered a healthy balance between risk and reward.
Once-great cities like San Francisco lost their appeal (and tax base) as companies and people left. Once-thriving metropolises like Los Angeles became the capital of 'smash and grab' and carjacking criminals while homeless encampments sprouted up placing a further strain on property values and ushered in an era of insecurity as criminals of every stripe became bolder in the wake of reduced sentences and cashless bail.
Long a place for innovation, but short-sighted when it came to sound financial investments (think the California-based company, Solyndra, which sucked up $535 million of guaranteed 'stimulus' tax dollars in 2009 and then went broke, leaving U.S. taxpayers holding the bag), the latest shoe to drop is the failure of Silicon Valley Bank last week. But fear not, like major U.S. corporations and some financial institutions that have been deemed as too big to fail, states like California now qualify to join that august body of TBTFs. The Feds have now made 'an exception' and have propped up SVB, guaranteeing that all depositors will now get all their money back (so much for our banking regulations that only safeguarded up to $250K per depositor).
Why? The Feds say that they fear 'contagion' (read: a run on banks) and that this action is justified and is not to be considered a 'bailout.' Californians have once again been spared the pain of facing reality and the equal application of America's laws. They are still free to continue to live comfortably in the land of eternal darkness and self-delusion. At some point, however, someone somewhere will compel the state to turn on the lights of its own consciousness… that is if its power grid and its sense of personal responsibility can stand the strain.

Mexican President Says He’ll Campaign Against GOP if it Presses For Military Action Against Cartels

(CNSNews.com) – Taking aim at GOP lawmakers pushing for military action against Mexican drug cartels, President Andres Manuel López Obrador said Thursday that if the drive continues he will call on Mexican and Hispanic voters in the U.S. not to support the Republican Party.
One of the lawmakers involved advised López Obrador to “get a grip” and said he should be campaigning against the cartels murdering his people, rather than against those wanting to help.
“We are not going to allow any foreign government to intervene, much less the armed forces of a foreign government to intervene in our territory,” the Mexican president said during a press conference. “We are not a protectorate of the United States, nor a colony of the United States.”
The fentanyl crisis has prompted several Republican-led proposals to have the U.S. government designate the Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs), and use military assets against them. Proponents say they aren’t calling for U.S. troops to be deployed on the ground, but for the use of cyber, drones, and other capabilities against gangs responsible for the drugs that are killing tens of thousands of Americans each year.
The deaths of two Americans kidnapped in northeastern Mexico has fueled the calls.
But López Obrador said they amount to an attack on Mexican sovereignty, and laid out his planned response:

“Starting today we are going to launch an information campaign for Mexicans who live and work in the United States, and for all Hispanics, to inform them of what we are doing in Mexico, and how this initiative by the Republicans, in addition to being irresponsible, is an offense against the people of Mexico, a lack of respect for our independence, our sovereignty,” he said.
“And if they do not change their attitude and think that they are going to use Mexico for their propaganda, electoral, and political purposes, we are going to call for them not to vote for that party, because it is interventionist, inhumane, hypocritical, and corrupt.”
Among those responding to López Obrador’s remarks was Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), one of the lawmakers pressing for military action against the cartels.
“The President of Mexico said today he would campaign against me & anyone who wants to target the cartels,” he tweeted.
“1. Bring it. Lol. 2. Get a grip. You should be campaigning against the cartels who are MURDERING your own people, not the Americans who want to help eradicate them.”
Earlier this week, after news broke that two of four Americans kidnapped last Friday had been killed, Crenshaw tweeted, “It’s time we authorize military force against them. Are you listening, [López Obrador]? We would love for you to be a partner. Help us help you.”
The cartel-focused congressional initiatives include a resolution introduced in January by Crenshaw and Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.), granting Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) to target specified cartels facilitating the fentanyl crisis.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) – from whose state the kidnapped and murdered Americans came – joined Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) at a press conference this week outlining plans for legislation that would designate the cartels as FTOs, and then “give the military the authority to go after these organizations wherever they exist.”
“Not to invade Mexico. Not to shoot Mexican airplanes down,” Graham said. “But to destroy drug labs that are poisoning Americans.”

Sens. Roger Marshall (R-Kansas) and Rick Scott (Fla.) on Wednesday reintroduced their Drug Cartel Terrorist Designation Act, previously proposed last September, that would designate four specified Mexican cartels as FTOs.
The designation would make it a crime to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to the cartels to enter the U.S., ban entry into the U.S. to any foreign citizen linked to the cartels, and authorize the Treasury Department to freeze cartels’ assets and block transactions.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that FTO designations for the cartels “would not grant us any additional authorities that we don’t really have at this time.”
The Crenshaw-Waltz and Marshall-Scott measures both name the cartels they want targeted. Both lists include the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels, which have been linked to the production of most of the fentanyl coming across the southwest border.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 71,238 Americans died in fentanyl overdoses in 2021.
In his press conference remarks on Thursday, López Obrador denied that fentanyl is produced or consumed in Mexico, characterizing the situation in the U.S. as a result of an inadequate law enforcement response and social problems.
“Why don’t they fight the distribution of fentanyl in the United States, the cartels in the United States that are in charge of distributing fentanyl and more thoroughly?” he asked. “Why don’t you take care of your youth? Why don’t they address their serious problem of social decomposition?”

Mom of 2 Fentanyl Victims to Congress: ‘You’re Welcoming Drug Dealers Across Our Border!’630
The mother of two children killed by fentanyl poisoning slammed the federal government’s extravagant support for illegal migrants in a House hearing on Tuesday.
“You talk about welcoming those crossing our border “seeking protection” — you’re welcoming drug dealers across our border!” said Rebecca Kiessling, the emotional Michigan mother of sons Caleb and Kyler, adding:
I don’t use the term “drug overdose” because this was not an overdose. This was murder. My children got fake Percocets pills] that were fentanyl. There was no Percocet in it at all. And it’s “homicide,” not “overdose.”
Her sons, Caleb, 20, and Kyler, 18, and another friend, 17-year-old Sophia Harris, died in July 2020 in a hotel room in Auburn Hills, Mich.
Kiessling said:
If we had Chinese troops lining up along our southern border with weapons aimed at our people, with weapons of mass destruction aimed at our cities, you damned well know you would do something about it. We have a weather balloon from China going across the country. Nobody died, and everybody’s freaking out about it.
But 100,000 die [Americans] every year, and nothing’s being done. Not enough is being done. Numbers are going up, not down. And you talk about [migrant] children being taken away from their parents. My children were taken away from me!
A 100,000 Americans a year — 200,000 because it’s both parents, right” — are having their children taken away from them!
This should not be politicized. It’s not about race. Fentanyl doesn’t care about race. You talk about welcoming those crossing our border “seeking protection.” You’re welcoming drug dealers across our border. You’re giving them protection. You’re not protecting our children. I’ve been in support groups on Facebook with there’s 1000s of parents who have lost their children. Everyday faces are added.
It’s dehumanizing, it’s demoralizing.
Kiessling was invited to testify by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
In contrast, Democrats used most of their time during the hearing to call for more migration. A Democratic press statement ignored Kiessling’s testimony and said:
Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, led Committee Democrats in calling out Republicans for holding another politically charged border security hearing to attack the Administration while ignoring the clear need for comprehensive immigration reform to address the situation at the border.
Since 2021, Biden and his deputies have dismantled border protections and welcomed at least 3 million migrants — including 1 million stealthy “gotaways” — across the U.S. border. The economic inflow has helped hide the fast-rising inflow of smuggled fentanyl and other drugs that kill 100,000 Americans each year.
But neither GOP politicians nor President Joe Biden has been willing to use economic pressure on Mexico’s government to make it fight the very wealthy and heavily armed cartels that kill roughly 100,000 Americans each year.
In 2019, President Donald Trump forced Mexico to curb the inflow of migrants by threatening to throttle Mexico’s trade with U.S. companies. Business groups raged against Trump’s threat — but Mexico gave in and curbed the inflow of migrants to very low levels.
Instead of copying Trump’s diplomatic and economic pressure, White House officials and legislators in both parties now prefer to talk about other things — border chaos, refugees, cheap labor, asylum, reforms, drug interdictions, and amnesties.
Those debates and chatter look good on TV — and they do not anger the business groups that both parties consider vital to their chances of victory in 2024.
The beltway silence about diplomatic and trade pressure also helps the White House by ensuring Mexico’s continued cooperation with the quiet inflow of perhaps 600,000 more migrants before the 2024 elections.
“We are doing that which needs to be done” about drugs, Biden’s pro-migration homeland security chief told the Washington Post in January.
California Border Crossing Sets Record for Meth, Fentanyl Seizures
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Andrade Port of Entry in California established a new port record with the seizure of nearly $1 million worth of fentanyl and methamphetamine. The officers found the drugs hidden in a vehicle’s fuel tank.
CBP officers assigned to the Andrade Port of Entry on February 26 observed a woman driving a 2016 pickup truck approaching from Mexico for entry inspection into the United States. During the initial interview, the officer decided to refer the woman to a secondary inspection checkpoint.
At the secondary station, officers conducted a non-intrusive inspection of the vehicle. A K-9 team also did a walk around the truck and alerted to an odor it is trained to detect, according to a statement from CBP officials.
The officers began a physical search of the truck. During the inspection they discovered 76 packages of drugs hidden in the fuel tank, officials reported. Testing of the drugs returned positive indications for fentanyl and methamphetamine.
Officers seized 46 packages of fentanyl pills. The packages weighed approximately 54 pounds, officials stated. They have an estimated street value of nearly $747,000.
The remaining 30 packages contained approximately 32 pounds of methamphetamine. Officials estimate the value to be about $212,000.
In total, the drugs had a combined value of nearly $1 million, setting a record for the Andrade Port of Entry.
Officers arrested the 37-year-old woman, a U.S. citizen, and turned or over to ICE Homeland Security Investigations for further investigations.
“Fentanyl is one of the deadliest drug threats our nation has ever encountered. Continuing to amplify fentanyl awareness and the dangers it poses to the health and safety of the American people is paramount,” said Sidney Aki, CBP Director of Field Operations in San Diego. “Day after day, our officers work diligently on the front line to secure our borders and keep our communities safe.”

Watch: Mom Testifies About Sons’ Drug Deaths amid Mayorkas’ Open Border
The House Committee on Homeland Security is using its first hearing to show how cartels carry drugs through the border region, setting up a fight with Democrats who are determined to downplay the civic damage caused by illegal migration and the drug cartels.
“This is killing Americans – we must reestablish control of our southern border,” said chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-TN). “We must establish control of our southern border.”
“This hearing should be a wake-up call… our colleagues across the aisle must recognize the [nationwide] humanitarian tragedy,” Green added.
One of the witnesses testified about the loss of her two sons to fentanyl hidden in Percocet pills. “You welcoming drug dealers coming across the border … You’re not protecting our children,” Rebecca Kiessling, Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Another witness described how his hospital was forced to provide $26 million in free healthcare in one year to a wide variety of ill migrants.
The federal government’s failure to curb the inflow of drugs contributes to the deaths of more than 100,000 Americans each year.
In response, Democrats defend the loose border policies overseen by the nation’s pro-migration homeland secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas.
Those policies have provided businesses with millions of imported cheap workers, renters, and consumers, have minimized diplomatic pressure on Mexico to curb cartels, and also have diverted border resources toward the task of welcoming economic migrants.
Democrats also tout a GOP member of the committee, Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX), because of his opposition to a GOP border-reform bill.
Both Republicans and Democrats try to downplay the economic purposes and impact of migration on American society.
The Democrats’ witness for the hearing is David Bier, a pro-migration advocate from Cato Institute.

Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) thanked President Joe Biden for halting the construction of border wall along the United States-Mexico border at a North American summit on Tuesday.
Mexico’s President Andrés Lopez Obrador says 40 million Mexicans are living in the United States.
“Just imagine: There are 40 million Mexicans in the United States — 40 million [including people] who were born here in Mexico, [or] who are the children of people who were born in Mexico,” President Andrés Lopez Obrador gushed at a January 10 press conference with President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Obrador’s proud Mexican-first advocacy for ethnic Mexicans — including ethnic Mexicans in the United States — is very different from the globalist, investor-first policies pushed by Trudeau and Biden.
At the Tuesday summit, Biden pushed the globalist, pro-migration “Nation of Immigrants” narrative as he described all Americans — including the descendants of Americans — as mere immigrants.
“Look, all of you know all of us in the United States are immigrants,” Biden said. “Mine go all the way back to the Irish famine,” Biden told the press conference.
Biden’s use of “immigrant” demotes the status of American citizens to that of illegal migrants, because the same “immigrant” term is normally used by establishment outlets to promote illegal migrants.
Biden also called for the use of global labor to fill jobs in the U.S. economy, regardless of many sidelined Americans, and regardless of the economic impact on ordinary Americans’ wages and rents:
We cannot wall ourself off from shared problems. We are stronger and better when we work together … At the top of our shared agenda today is keeping North America the most competitive, prosperous, and resilient economic region of the world … [and creating] pathways for immigrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, and Haiti that were seeking a better life here in the United States of America.
Biden recently announced a plan to allow 360,000 people from four countries to move to the United States each year. That huge population transfer from Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela is in addition to the global inflow of illegal migrants, and Congress’s normal inflow of roughly one million legal immigrants.
In contrast, the Mexican president repeatedly boasted about how his government policies are making life better for Mexicans, and are reducing the incentives for Mexicans to migrate to the United States:
The [goverenment] budget is used for development and supporting the poorest sectors of our population, today we not only have jobs, employment, we have seen reductions in violence. We have less migration as well. And we’ve also tempered frustration. And what we can see is this flame — this flame which is alive. I’m talking about the flame of hope.
Obrador’s pro-Mexican policies include his demand that Congress give the huge prize of amnesty to Mexico’s illegal migrants in the United States:
I fully trust President Biden … I’ve asked President Biden to insist before the U.S. Congress to regularize the migration situations of millions of Mexicans who have been in the States working, living in the United States, and contributing to the development of that great nation, which is the United States of America.
As an ethnic Mexican nationalist, Obrador opposes Mexican emigration — but he also supports more ethnic Latino migration into the United States:
We do celebrate the fact that the U.S. administration has … made the decision, rather, to have an orderly migration flow in the case, for instance, of our Venezuelan brothers and sisters … Just as I was telling you that in the case of migration, first there were brothers and sisters from Central America and also from Mexico, but now, in recent times, a lot of migrants from Venezuela, from Nicaragua, Colombia, Ecuador.
Obrador also applauded Trudeau’s decision to import 25,000 Mexican temporary workers for Canadian jobs, such as helping to house and feed Trudeau’s huge wave of global migrants who have been invited into Canada. “This program is already benefiting 25,000 men and women — 25,000 Mexicans,” said Obrador.
“Prime Minister Trudeau is a great ally of Mexico,” he added.
Obrador downplayed the benefits gained by Mexico when U.S. investors moved many manufacturing jobs to Mexico, as he claimed that his pro-Mexican policies are reducing Mexican emigration:
There are less migrants abandoning Mexico now because there’s public investment; because out of 35 million families, 30 million families of Mexican families are now receiving at least a program — a wellbeing program …All the senior citizens, 65 or over, receive a pension … Eleven million students of low-income families, of poor families are getting grants [and] cholarships …. We are planting over 1 million hectares of fruit and timber trees. And we are giving jobs to over 400,000 peasants that are growing, planting those trees … So, then, all these programs help so that people may be staying in their own communities, in their towns.
The U.S. government has long operated a globalist economic policy of “Extraction Migration.” The policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries, disguised under the Cold War-era “Nation of Immigrants” narrative and deliberately ineffective border security.
The extracted workers, renters, and consumers are used to grow Wall Street and to expand the low-wage service sector in the economy.
This colonization-like policy has killed many thousands of unrecognized migrants, including many on the taxpayer-funded trail through the Darien Gap in Panama.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors, and reduced native-born Americans’ clout in local and national elections, and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.

Mexico’s President Says Biden Responsible for Migrant Surge at Border
Border Patrol agents apprehended a record-setting 4.2 million migrants during his first 23 months in office. The apprehension of 221,181 migrants by Border Patrol agents along the southwest border during the month of December brought the FY23 total to 633,451.
In a bizarre statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) late Friday evening, Acting Commissioner Troy Miller wrote, “The December update shows our new border enforcement measures are working.” His statement followed the Friday-night news dump with the release of the December Southwest Land Border Migration Report.
The report, released after the close of business on Friday night, shows Border Patrol agents apprehended 221,181 migrants during the month of December in the nine southwest border sectors. This brought the total for the new fiscal year to 633,451. In contrast, during the entire FY2020, President Donald Trump’s last full fiscal year in office, agents apprehended a total of 400,651.
During the last twelve months, agents apprehended more than 2.3 million migrants.
Commissioner Miller continued to blame other countries for the record-setting irregular migration crisis that developed immediately after President Joe Biden was sworn into office two years ago.
“This new migration challenge is not unique to the United States,” Miller deflected. “There are 2.5 million Venezuelans now living in Colombia and 1.5 million in Peru; Brazil and Chile are hosting more than 350,000 Haitians, and the number of displaced Nicaraguans in Costa Rica has more than doubled in the last 12 months alone.” “In December, the large number of individuals fleeing failing communist regimes in Nicaragua and Cuba contributed to an increased number of migrants attempting to cross the border,” CBP officials stated.
Including both Border Patrol apprehensions and CBP migrant encounters at ports of entry, the total number of migrant encounters in December hit the highest-ever level with nearly 252,000 total encounters, Breitbart Texas reported.
In response, Lora Ries, former acting DHS deputy chief of staff and director of the Heritage Foundation’s border security team wrote, “It’s easy to get lost in all the numbers, but don’t let this one pass by without being shocked and outraged. Biden’s border crisis is literally historic and has been for years now, but this is simply a devastating number.”
“For the second time, Biden’s CBP needs to make a bigger chart to visualize this historic number,” Mora added. “More than 250,000 apprehensions—and that doesn’t even include the rising number of got-aways—mean that even more Border Patrol agents are being pulled off the line to process and release illegal aliens into the interior so that the Biden administration doesn’t get stuck with embarrassing photos of overcrowded facilities.”
These overcrowded facilities were exposed in the El Paso Sector with the apprehension of nearly 56,000 migrants in December. Border Patrol processing and detention centers designed to hold approximately 3,500 people filled beyond capacity to more than 5,600 migrants in mid-December, Breitbart reported.
NGO shelters were forced to close their doors to new migrants after the Border Patrol dumped more than 10,000 people onto the city’s streets in freezing weather conditions in a single week. The massive dump of migrants in El Paso led the Democrat mayor to declare a state of disaster in December.
However, President Joe Biden saw none of this humanitarian disaster during his Potemkin village tour of El Paso in January after city police and Border Patrol agents swept migrants off the streets and forced many back across the border to Mexico under Title 42.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott met President Biden on the tarmac at the El Paso airport and handed the president a scathing letter regarding the federal government’s failure to secure the border during this administration.
Abbott wrote, “Your visit to our southern border with Mexico today is $20 billion too little and two years too late. Moreover, your visit avoids the sites where mass illegal immigration occurs and sidesteps the thousands of angry Texas property owners whose lives have been destroyed by your border policies.”
The five Texas-based Border Patrol sectors account for more than 60 percent of all migrant apprehensions by Border Patrol agents.
Earlier this month, U.S. Representative Pat Fallon filed articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas because of his failure to enforce federal border security and immigration law.
“Since day one, Secretary Mayorkas’ policies have undermined law enforcement activities at our southern border,” Fallon said in a statement on Fox News. “From perjuring himself before Congress about maintaining operational control of the border to the infamous ‘whip-gate’ slander against our border patrol agents, Secretary Mayorkas has proven time and time again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Homeland Security.”
In a poll released last Friday, 54 percent of American adults blam President Biden either a “great deal” or “some,” Breitbart News reported

Biden Wants Advocates to Pick, Import a Million-Plus Refugees
A State Department official dodged questions about the risk to Americans created by the agency’s decision to let U.S. residents select foreigners for the huge prize of refugee status, green cards, and then citizenship in just six years.
“Do you have any safeguards for Americans?” Breitbart News asked as Assistant Secretary of State Julieta Valls Noyes walked out of a very short June 19 briefing on the legally questionable “Welcome Corps” program.
She claimed there would be protections but exited without providing any details.
“This is one more way the administration is trying to make an end run around the immigration law,” responded Mark Krikorian, director of the Center for Immigration Studies. He added:
This is a way of blowing a hole in the immigration caps [roughly 1 million per year] that Congress has announced, and it’s a piece with mass parole and [non-enforcement of detention rules]. It just makes it that much more urgent that Congress — maybe the next Congress — is going to restrict the President’s discretion because presidents have shown they cannot be trusted with discretion in immigration.
The U.S. refugee program has a long history of quietly shifting opportunities and wealth from ordinary Americans to progressives, coastal investors, and selected foreigners.
For example, refugees have sold entry documents to foreigners, and corporations exploit low-wage refugees instead of spending funds to make workplaces safe and efficient. Progressive groups secretly lobby to steer cheap refugees and government spending to business groups, even though many millions of Americans work in low-wage jobs, and millions more have been pushed out of the labor market.
The program is being pitched as decent support for some families split during a backlogged refugee process. But the family splits have been caused by the administration’s focus on processing roughly 200,000 Afghans and Ukrainians.
In her very brief press conference, Noyes claimed:
Welcome Corps is the boldest innovation in the U.S. refugee resettlement in four decades, and it reflects the Biden administration’s commitment to expand community engagement as we rebuild our refugee program.
She justified the wealth-shifting program by citing the Cold War era “Nation of Immigrants” narrative:
My own parents arrived in this country as [Cuban] refugees … so I see this as an offshoot of the historic traditions in our country of welcoming newcomers … [to] a “Nation of immigrants.”
The Welcome Corps name is a match for the Welcome.US organization, which was formed in 2021 by wealthy Americans to encourage the inflow of more workers, consumers, and renters. The group’s council includes Sean Kennedy, a manager at the National Restaurant Association, billionaire widow Laurene Powell Jobs, Dina Powell McCormick at Goldman Sachs, Brad Smith at President of Microsoft, Starbucks CEO John Culver, and Rebecca Blumenstein, a deputy managing editor at The New York Times.
A “senior State Department official” said their goal is to import 125,000 migrants per year, according to the transcript of a January 19 not-for-attribution briefing to a picked group of reporters.
The official explained the big policy shift in the Welcome Corps program:
In the second phase of the private sponsorship program, we are going to welcome referrals by private sponsors themselves, that they can indicate which refugees they would like to apply to sponsor … they can pair themselves up that way.
[Eligible migrants include] Anyone who is already within the pipeline of cases referred for resettlement to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, regardless of the country that they come from. And there may be Ukrainians, there may be Afghans, but we certainly anticipate seeing people from the Democratic Republic of Congo, or from Burma who would be the beneficiaries of this program. If there are people from North Korea within that pipeline, they certainly could benefit from being received and resettled in the United States through private sponsorship.
“None of the private sponsors would benefit financially in any way from resettling refugees,” the official said while answering just four questions.
But the U.N.’s selection process has a history of corruption because it allows foreign U.N. officials and foreign groups to provide — or sell — an immensely valuable gateway to the United States for migrants and all of their descendants
“I’m like the walking dead,” one Somali woman told NBC News in 2019 after her husband was allowed to settle in Minnesota in 2014:
Abdullahi said … she was left behind because of false information fed to the U.S. government by a UNHCR resettlement officer, David Momanyi, to whom her ex-husband paid a hefty bribe [to ensure she was left behind].
…
Her account is corroborated by a former U.N. contractor, speaking anonymously for fear of retribution, who said he personally collected tens of thousands of dollars from refugees while acting as a middleman for Momanyi — and other UNHCR staffers — over several years. He said Abdullahi’s ex-husband paid almost $20,000 in multiple installments [to make sure his wife was left behind].
In separate interviews, more than a dozen other refugees said Momanyi was known for taking bribes. One described the Kenyan as “the architect of corruption.”
The corruption is official admitted. “Refugee status and resettlement places are valuable commodities, particularly in countries with acute poverty, where the temptation to make money by whatever means is strong,” said a 2008 U.N. document.
But Biden’s new program will allow U.S.-based groups to also pick people for refugee status.
“It also opens the door to more fraud,” said Nayla Rush, a Lebanon-born expert who works for the Center for Immigration Studies:
How are we going to combat fraud when we are handing [decisions] to private individuals and nonprofit organizations? … [Now] it’s the mostly local UNHCR staff who sell these spots. But you [let more groups] do it under the blessings of the U.S. government?”
The Welcome Corps program also allows the private groups — including recent migrants — to import favored refugees, not high-risk refugees, she said:
It is allowing green card holders, not just American citizens [to pick new refugees] … when we have been told by the U.N. and by the U.S. government for ages that these selection process [are intended to] resettle the most urgent cases. So having an individual sponsor sponsoring somebody just because they know them [contradicts the justification of aiding] real refugees who are in real danger.
U.S. officials diid not detail what would be done to prevent U.S. residents, employers, or pro-migration groups from profiting. However, the unnamed official insisted “there are many, many checkpoints, many, many failsafes, vetting – all that is part of this program to prevent any abuses.”
The reporters ignored the programs’ economic and civic impact on American citizens and instead declared their focus on the interests of migrants.
For example, Ted Hesson at Reuters, asked: “Is there a way that the State Department will be able to enforce that the refugees are getting adequate housing or are not being subjected to labor abuses when they’re brought into the U.S.?”
The Associated Press’s incumbent reporter, Matt Lee. rebuked Noyes for not importing more migrants, saying:
Why is it limited to groups of five or more [sponsors to import refugees]? Why can’t individuals … do this on their own? … This administration has tried to make up for the reduction in admissions under the previous [administration] but it has not yet even close.
Noyes responded with moralistic cliches:
Because it’s not about money, Matt. It’s about commitment. It’s about the community. It’s about bringing people together and forming a group so that the refugees have more than one person that they can refer to and work with.
The subsequent A.P. article on the program did not challenge Noyes’ claims, despite the vast evidence that escalating migration inflicts huge pocketbook damage to ordinary Americans.

In 2022, Biden’s deputies admitted roughly 3 million legal, quasi-legal and illegal migrants — or roughly 3 migrants for every Americans who turned 18.
Administration officials are also expanding the cross-border flow by working with Mexico-based centers that help convert would-be illegal migrants into quasi-legal “parole migrants” that are not counted in the media-monitored “border encounter” reports each month.
Agency officials say they will use the Welcome Corps pipeline to help import 125,000 refugees per year. That huge inflow adds up to 1.25 million people per decade, not counting chain-migration.
The federal government has long operated an economic policy of Extraction Migration. This colonialism-like policy extracts vast amounts of human resources from needy countries and uses the imported workers, renters, and consumers to grow Wall Street and the economy.
The migrant inflow has successfully forced down Americans’ wages and also boosted rents and housing prices. The inflow has also pushed many native-born Americans out of careers in a wide variety of business sectors, and contributed to the rising death rate of poor Americans.
The population inflow also reduces the political clout of native-born Americans, and allows elites to divorce themselves from the needs and interests of ordinary Americans.
One result is that a 54 percent majority of Americans say Biden is allowing a southern border invasion, according to an August 2022 poll commissioned by the left-of-center National Public Radio (NPR). The 54 percent “Invasion” majority included 76 percent of Republicans, 46 percent of independents, and even 40 percent of Democrats.
Biden Admin Incompetence Forces Release of Thousands of Migrants Into Country
The Biden administration will release into the country nearly 3,000 illegal immigrants, who otherwise faced deportation, because U.S. officials in November inadvertently published their personal information, the Los Angeles Timesreported.
The migrants, whose names and birthdates were included in the data accidentally published by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, could face threats of violence from gangs and corrupt government officials once deported to their origin country, the agency said. The Biden administration is also offering to bring back some migrants whom officials deported before the leak was discovered.
"Though unintentional, this release of information is a breach of policy and the agency is investigating the incident and taking all corrective actions necessary," an agency official said in a statement.
The announcement comes as illegal immigration at the southern border hits record highs. Border agents reported more than two million migrant encounters in the last fiscal year. In the month of November alone, 233,740 encounters occurred, according to Customs and Border Protection data.
New York City mayor Eric Adams this week pleaded for migrants to stop coming to his city, which has "no more room," the Democrat said.
The leak comes just one month after the Department of Homeland Security "inadvertently tipped off" Havana about Cuban migrants the agency sought to deport, the Times reported:
A Homeland Security official communicating with the Cuban government about deportation flights to the country "unintentionally" indicated that some of the 103 Cubans who could have been placed on a flight had been affected by the late November data breach, ICE officials told Congress in December.
The Homeland Security official did not name any specific individuals. But telling Cuba that some of the potential deportees had been affected by the ICE leak amounted to confirming that they had sought shelter in the U.S. Every person whose information was leaked had sought U.S. protection, and the leak was widely covered in U.S. media.

Biden’s State Department Launches ‘Welcome Corps’ that Asks Americans to Help Resettle 125K Refugees in U.S.
President Joe Biden’s State Department is launching a “Welcome Corps” program that will ask Americans and green card holders to help resettle refugees across the United States.
Last year, the Biden administration announced a massive increase in the annual number of refugees it would try to resettle across American communities. Though the cap is merely a numerical limit and not a goal to be reached, top officials have suggested they are looking to resettle about 125,000 refugees in Fiscal Year 2023.
Biden’s refugee cap is eight times the 15,000 cap set by former President Trump.
As part of the administration’s goal to drastically increase refugee resettlement, the State Department has launched the “Welcome Corps” program that effectively allows Americans and green card holders to sponsor refugees for resettlement in the United States.
This year, alone, the State Department is looking to have at least 10,000 Americans help resettle about 5,000 refugees through the program.
By summer, State Department officials said they hope to turn refugee resettlement into a quasi chain migration effort where Americans and green card holders can sponsor refugees that they choose to come to the United States.
Chain migration is the process where newly naturalized citizens can bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the U.S. on green cards. More than 7 in 10 legal immigrants arriving in the U.S. today do so solely because they have relatives already living in the country.
Designation as a refugee is a sought-after privilege mostly because it allows those admitted to eventually adjust their immigration status to secure green cards and, eventually, naturalized American citizenship where they can then go on to sponsor more foreign relatives for green cards.
Over the last 20 years, nearly one million refugees have been resettled in the country. This is more than double the number of residents living in Miami, Florida, and is the equivalent of annually adding the population of Pensacola, Florida, to the country.
Refugee resettlement costs American taxpayers nearly $9 billion every five years, according to research, and each refugee costs taxpayers about $133,000 over the course of their lifetime. Within five years, an estimated 16 percent of all refugees admitted will need housing assistance paid for by taxpayers.

Under Obama, the Labor Department refused to share information about investigations with DHS, nor would it allow joint investigations with DHS. That practice ended most employer investigations by DHS, meaning lawbreaking employers often went unpunished. In his memo, Mayorkas calls for a review of whether E-Verify—a federal tool that allows businesses to check if a prospective employee is an illegal alien—is "not manipulated to suppress unauthorized workers from, or to punish unauthorized workers for, reporting unlawful labor practices such as substandard wages, unsafe working conditions, and other forms of worker exploitation."
NYC Mayor Eric Adams Begs Biden to ‘Fairly Distribute’ Illegal Immigration Across All U.S. Cities, Towns
New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is pleading with President Joe Biden to “fairly distribute” illegal immigration released into the United States across all cities and towns.
During a speech at the U.S. Conference of Mayors this week, Adams urged the Biden administration to take a series of actions that include amnesty for all illegal aliens living in the U.S., expedited work permits for border crossers, and an equal distribution program that would see newly arrived border crossers and illegal aliens sent to all cities and towns across the country.
“Today I am calling for a national response to the asylum seeker crisis, which includes six main points,” Adams said:
A dedicated point-person whose sole focus is overseeing and coordinating our national asylum seeker response, a decompression strategy at the border that establishes a plan for each migrant’s arrival — and creates a system to fairly distribute newcomers regionally, congressional funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency to implement that strategy in the places of greatest need, expedited right to work options for asylum seekers who are allowed to enter the country, congressional legislation that provides a clear pathway to residency or citizenship for those who enter this country legally, and nationwide leadership that takes an all-hands-on-deck approach by bringing together nonprofits, the faith-based community, and the private sector, alongside state and local government to meet this challenge. Adams’ plea to Biden to spread illegal immigration across all American cities and towns comes as more than 40,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in the sanctuary city of New York City since the spring of 2022 — most of whom have been bused from Texas.
Also this week, Adams suggested that there is “no more room” in New York City for border crossers and illegal aliens, as the city’s homeless shelters are packed.
Rather than cracking down on illegal immigration, the Biden administration is creating new programs to bring even more migrants to the U.S.
Most recently, for instance, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a mobile app where foreign nationals living in Mexico can schedule appointments to get released into the U.S. interior at the southern border.
Similarly, DHS announced a plan that blows open the doors to an even more expansive Catch and Release network at the border, where 360,000 more border crossers will be able to get into the U.S. interior by applying for humanitarian parole.
Already, Biden’s DHS is using a little-known parole program to mass-release hundreds of thousands of border crossers into the U.S. interior every month. At current estimates, the Biden administration has released 1.6 to two million border crossers into American communities since February 2021.
As Breitbart News reported, the latest projections estimate that Biden will set another illegal immigration record this year with 2.6 million border crossers and illegal aliens being apprehended. This figure does not include any of the known and unknown got-away illegal aliens who successfully made their way into the U.S. interior.
