Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt ordered 50 members of his state’s National Guard to the Texas border to support Operation Lone Star. The Guardsmen will join soldiers and airmen from 12 other states deployed to the Texas border with Mexico.

Responding to a request for assistance from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Governor Stitt ordered 50 members of the Oklahoma Nation Guard to travel to South Texas in support of the Operation Lone Star border security mission, KOSO NPR reported. Governor Stitt joined with 12 other Republican governors who responded to Abbott’s request by deploying National Guard Units and/or state law enforcement officers.

Those governors include:

  • Governor Kim Reynolds, IA
  • Governor Glenn Youngkin, VA
  • Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, AR
  • Governor Ron DeSantis, FL
  • Governor Brad Little, ID
  • Governor Jim Pillen, NE
  • Governor Doug Burgum, ND
  • Governor Mike DeWine, OH
  • Governor Kevin Stitt, OK
  • Governor Henry McMaster, SC
  • Governor Kristi Noem, SD
  • Governor Bill Lee, TN
  • Governor Jim Justice, WV

“Every state is a border state, and Republican governors – together – are stepping up to protect Americans where Biden has failed,” the collective governors said in a written statement.

In his deployment announcement, Governor Stitt wrote: “By deploying our brave National Guard Troops, we’re sending a strong message that we remain dedicated to defending our borders and upholding law and order in our nation.”

The Oklahoma troops will be a “force multiplier,” Guard officials added. They will not be exercising any law enforcement authority along the border. “It will be the local law enforcement agencies that are responsible for investigating and then, if necessary, detaining those people if they’re involved in illegal activities,” Oklahoma Nation Guard deputy public affairs officer LeeAnn Tumblson told the Oklahoma radio station.

Migrant Apprehensions at One U.S.-Canada Border Sector Exceed Prior 9 Years Combined

Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more migrants during the first ten months of FY23 than in the prior nine years combined, an official tweeted. The unofficial report indicated the arrest of more than 5,400 migrants who illegally crossed the Canadian border into the U.S. since October 1, 2022.

Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia tweeted photos of migrants attempting to sneak into the U.S. from Canada. Since the beginning of Fiscal Year 23 on October 1, 2022, Swanton Sector agents placed more than 5,400 migrants who illegally crossed the Canadian border between ports of entry into custody.

Garcia stated this is more migrant apprehensions than the previous nine years combined. Official U.S. Customs and Border Protection numbers are expected to be released next week.

The CBP Nationwide Encounters Report shows Swanton Sector agents apprehended 4,457 migrants through the end of June. Since that time, agents have apprehended nearly 1,000 additional migrants, according to Garcia’s tweet. Swanton Sector agents only apprehended 2,455 migrants during the prior nine years.

Garcia’s tweet significantly understates the magnitude of this year’s apprehensions. According to official Border Patrol reports, between October 1, 1999, and September 30, 2022, Swanton Sector agents apprehended only 4,098 migrants. This year’s apprehension of more than 5,400 migrants eclipses the total apprehensions dating back to the Clinton administration.

The Swanton Sector is one of the few Border Patrol Sectors showing an increase in apprehensions comparing this year to last. The spike in migrant apprehensions began in March 2022, shortly after Texas Governor Greg Abbott expanded the Operation Lone Star border security mission by building border barriers and prosecuting migrants on state criminal charges.

A recent U.S. Customs and Border Protection report indicates a decrease in migrant apprehensions in Texas-based border sectors and a simultaneous increase in the Tucson, Miami, and some Canadian border sectors, Breitbart Texas reported.

The June Nationwide Encounters Report from U.S. Customs and Border Protection shows that Fiscal Year 2023 year-to-date apprehensions of migrants crossing the border between ports of entry in the five Texas-based border sectors fell by nearly 11.33 percent compared to the same period last year. The Swanton Sector experienced an increase of more than 730 percent this year over the same period last year.

A CBP report shows nearly half of the migrants apprehended crossing from Canada into the Swanton Sector which covers Vermont, New Hampshire, and the eastern New York border are reported to be Mexican nationals.

A large percentage of migrants in this sector also attempt to avoid apprehension.

“Under Operation Lone Star, Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers have apprehended over 393,000 illegal immigrants, repelled more than 49,000 illegal immigrants, seized over 422 million lethal doses of fentanyl and over 8,000 weapons, and arrested over 31,000 criminals – all of which would have otherwise made their way into communities across Texas and our country thanks to President Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott’s Press Secretary Andrew Mahaleris told Breitbart Texas. “Until President Biden steps up and does his job, Texas will continue utilizing every tool and strategy to respond to this border crisis.”

756 Smuggled Migrants Headed to U.S. Detained by Mexico Over Weekend

Officers with Mexico’s National Institute of Migration (INM) “rescued” 756 mostly Central American migrants in several multi-agency law enforcement operations. The three operations took place in the Mexican States of Oaxaca and Puebla.

On Saturday, 265 migrants from Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras were found sealed in two tractor-trailers in Oaxaca. A total of 491 mostly Guatemalan migrants were encountered in a fenced-in vacant lot awaiting transportation on Friday.

Lacking statutory arrest authority in Mexico, the INM categorizes all detentions related to foreign nationals lacking proper immigration permits as “rescues.” According to INM, in 2022, more than 746,000 irregular migrants, likely headed to the United States, were “rescued” by the agency.

On Saturday, INM announced the rescue of 265 migrants in two separate human smuggling incidents in the capital city of Oaxaca. Both operations involved migrants being transported in sealed tractor-trailers. In the first incident, on a highway near the Technological Institute of Oaxaca, 118 migrants were found sealed in a tractor-trailer without food or water.

Of the 118 migrants from Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, 77 were members of a family unit, 14 were unaccompanied minors, and 27 were single adults. None of the migrants had INM documents showing they had registered and applied for asylum in Mexico.

Two Mexican nationals were arrested transporting the migrants at the time of the “rescues.” According to INM, the tractor-trailer was seized, and the two suspects were turned over to judicial authorities for prosecution.

The second case on Saturday involving migrants sealed in a tractor-trailer occurred near a park — also in the capital city of Oaxaca. In that case, 147 migrants from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador were “rescued.” The group comprised 114 family unit migrants, 12 unaccompanied minors, and 21 single adults. None possessed the required documentation to be in Mexico legally.

According to INM, two Mexican nationals were arrested in this case and await judicial disposition. Authorities also seized the vehicle.

INM announced the incident on Friday involved 491 migrants found in a fenced compound on the side of a federal highway in the southeastern part of Puebla. All but six of the 491 migrants were citizens of Guatemala. The group was comprised of 439 family unit migrants which included adolescents and young children. At least 52 members of the group were unaccompanied minors. INM officials say the migrants did not possess valid immigration documents allowing them to be in the country.

The migrants were taken to INM shelters for processing in accordance with Mexican immigration law.
