Pritzker: Immigration Doesn’t ‘Really’ Impact People, Trump Caused Venezuelan Migrant Surge by Wrecking Venezuela
During CBS’s Iowa caucus coverage on Monday, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) stated that the surge in Venezuelan migrants is the fault of 2024 Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump because he “created the chaos that’s happened in Venezuela that’s caused so many people to leave that country and seek asylum in the United States.” And that while immigration will be “an important issue to people,” “what people really care about is their own well-being, their family’s well-being,” and economic issues are “things that really matter to people in their personal lives.”
Pritzker said, “Well, I think it’ll be an important issue to people, and people need to recognize that Democrats have been at the table looking for comprehensive immigration reform and border security for years now, literally decades. And Republicans are the ones unwilling to come to the table to negotiate and get something done. Once again, they’re backing away from the table, it appears, in Washington, D.C. So, I’m — unfortunately, I am not confident that we will see any kind of reform. And, once again, it’s the Republicans unwilling to work with the president.”
CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett then asked, “Right. But Governor, you know that polling data reflects this, that there are Americans, even Independents, who say they can discern a difference in Biden and Trump policies when it comes to immigration, how many people come in, how many asylum claims come into the United States, either with times to report later and they just feel that the difference is so pronounced and something that they are no longer comfortable with. That is something that’s within the president’s ability to change. Is it not?”
Pritzker responded, “Well, we don’t have a head-to-head race yet. But in a head-to-head race, I think it would easily be pointed out that it was Donald Trump that created the chaos that’s happened in Venezuela that’s caused so many people to leave that country and seek asylum in the United States. That’s on Donald Trump.”
Pritzker continued, “Now, the question is, once they arrive here, what policy can you put in place to keep people from getting asylum? And the president has sought help from the Congress — the Republicans in Congress. They’re unwilling to work with him. So, in the end, when we get to it, when there’s a head-to-head race here, I think this will be pointed out to people, and they’ll understand it’s been Donald Trump and the Republicans that have kept us from having true immigration reform.”
Garrett then asked, “Do I hear you correctly, Governor, saying that, on immigration, President Biden can fight it to a draw or actually win on the immigration issue?”
Pritzker answered, “I think that it’s one that Democrats can win on. Although, I understand, as you look at the polls today, that fighting to a draw would be a pretty good place to end up. And the reality is, what people really care about is their own well-being, their family’s well-being, how they’re doing economically, and things are getting better every single day in this country. People are earning more than they’ve ever earned before. We have higher wages, and those wages are above inflation. Inflation’s going down. Gas prices are going down. We have, frankly, the best, most energy-independent nation that we’ve had, ever. And it’s Joe Biden that’s bringing manufacturing back to the United States. So, those are all things that really matter to people in their personal lives. And, again, as we see the economy continuing to improve and people feel it, that’s going to inure to President Biden’s benefit.”
Pritzker added, “Well, things have been getting significantly better, starting from the summer on.”

Chicago Job Fair Offers 400 Jobs for Migrants as Native Black Population Suffers Rising Unemployment
Migrants were treated to a job fair in Chicago where employers were looking to offer about 400 of them jobs. Meanwhile, unemployment for city residents continues to trend upward.
The job fair was held on November 2 at the Chicago area Misericordia Home on the city’s north side where nearly 500 refugees from Venezuela, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Ukraine showed up to be courted for potential employment.
With interpreters provided for them, the migrants met with representatives in fields including health care, manufacturing, hospitality, logistics, and others.
The companies also offered help securing government services, legal papers, and even training and educational opportunities.
One of the organizers of the job fair was a migrant from Afghanistan.
Siam Pasarly, the co-founder of Kaar Poh Staffing Agency, told Chicago’s WGN-TV that he hopes to help immigrants avoid the struggles he went through when he first came to Chicago.
“It is very difficult, it is very tough. Until you experience it, you just don’t know,” he exclaimed.
Meanwhile, even as other sectors in the city have recovered, black unemployment in the Windy City is still bad.
According to Crains Chicago Business, the black unemployment rate is 10.9 percent in Illinois, more than three times higher than white unemployment at 3.4 percent.
In Chicago, it is worse as the “jobless rate rose from 43.7% to 57.4% between 2019 and 2021 for Black people ages 20 to 24 in Chicago. The unemployment rate increase for Black women aged 20-24 was staggering, rising from 32% in 2019 to 60% in 2021,” the business paper noted in June.
By August, national unemployment was at 3.7 percent, but for black Americans in Chicago it was 14.3 percent, WTTW-TV reported.
This is one of the many problems that is riling the city’s black population against the rapidly growing number of migrants in the Windy City.
The influx of illegal aliens has many activists for Chicago’s black community worried and angry. In September, left-wing Chicago Catholic priest Father Michael Pfleger said that fast-tracking work permits for illegal immigrants would put jobs for his black flock at risk.
“What are we putting in place to make sure that there are no institutions in this city, this state, and country that will fire Black people because they have to pay them $15 or $16 an hour and then hire a migrant and pay them $5 an hour? What are we putting in place?” he asked.
In another case, Chicago activist Zoey Lee, who appeared at a Chicago City Council meeting, voiced a growing sentiment among black Chicagoans, accusing city leaders of trying to start a “race war” between black Americans and Hispanics.
“To come here and continue to see more Hispanics and Latinos get jobs than blacks here is a disrespect,” she added. “It’s a punch in the face.”

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) sent a letter to Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) on Friday begging him to stop sending migrant buses and planes to Chicago as frigid temperatures are on their way.
Pritzker accused Abbott of causing chaos in order to make gains politically, NBC Chicago reported Friday.
Pritzker’s letter continued:
You are now sending asylum seekers from Texas to the Upper Midwest in the middle of winter — many without coats, without shoes to protect them from the snow — to a city whose shelters are already overfilled with migrants you sent here.
…
You seem to have no interest in working on bipartisan solutions to the border crisis because that would put an end to your cruel political game, but I am writing to you today hoping to appeal to your humanity.
In September 2022, Abbott began busing migrants to Chicago. He addressed the situation in a written statement, Breitbart News reported at the time.
“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans — and Americans — at risk and is overwhelming our communities,” Abbott wrote.
“To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location,” he added.
In a social media post on November 5, Abbott detailed the numbers of migrants sent to the sanctuary cities:
The NBC Chicago report said Pritzker wants Abbott to at least take a pause in transporting the migrants to the area.
In December, “progressive” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson claimed his city was a welcoming place for the illegal immigrants, Breitbart News reported. However:
He and his lackeys in the city council recently passed stringent new rules on bus companies and have even levied stiff fines for breaking these never-before-seen rules, all in a desperate attempt to scare bus companies away from dropping off illegal aliens in the purported sanctuary city.
It is important to note that the Del Rio Sector Border Patrol officials in Texas reported the apprehension of approximately 35,000 migrants over the course of two weeks in December, according to Breitbart News.
Sanctuary City Chicago: Migrants Accused of Stabbing, Shoplifting While Living in Taxpayer-Funded Shelters
Three Venezuelan nationals have been charged with a series of crimes after having recently arrived, potentially on migrant buses, in the sanctuary city of Chicago, Illinois.
Elvis Diaz Betancourt, a 27-year-old Venezuelan national who arrived in Chicago four months ago, was arrested and charged with stabbing and critically injuring another Venezuelan man in one of the city’s migrant shelters.
According to prosecutors, Betancourt stabbed the man near his right hip during a fight outside of a nearby park. The man was stabbed so deeply that he said he could see his organs. Betancourt allegedly tried to stab the man again, this time in the back, but ran off as the man pleaded for help.
When police arrived on the scene, the man was rushed to a nearby hospital.
While having his bond set at $20,000, prosecutors said Betancourt had only recently arrived in Chicago and had been living at the migrant shelter for three months. His two children are still in Venezuela.
In a separate case, 34-year-old Anduesa Cormena of Venezuela and 22-year-old Yeiber Colmenarez of Venezuela were arrested by Chicago police earlier this month after allegedly trying to shoplift more than $1,300 worth of clothing from a Macy’s.
Both of the Venezuelan nationals have been living in the city’s migrant shelter at the former Wadsworth Elementary School in South Side, Chicago. The shelter is opposed by many of the area’s residents who are outraged that Mayor Brandon Johnson is spending taxpayer dollars to give housing to new arrivals as homeless Chicagoans live on the streets.
“These are individuals who’ve not been in the country very long,” the judge said, according to CWB Chicago. “You’re now telling me that they were arrested at Macy’s, committing a felony retail theft. So the court wants some idea of who is in front of me … one person has already indicated he’s using another name. So, who are these people? Who are these individuals?”
While Colmenarez had not yet been arrested in Chicago, prosecutors revealed that the shoplifting charge was the third arrest for Cormena, who has only lived in the city for three weeks.
Cormena was charged with misdemeanor battery on April 27 after hitting an individual at the migrant shelter and then later for allegedly shoplifting at a Nordstrom store. On both occasions, he was released from police custody.
Colmenarez was ordered to pay a $1,500 bail, while Cormena’s bail was set at $5,000. Since last August, more than 8,000 border crossers and illegal aliens have arrived in Chicago.
