VIDEO: Macy’s to Shutter 150 Stores Across U.S. in Massive Reorganization
Macy’s said Tuesday it is planning to close about 150 stores across the nation to reorganize and refocus its business.
The company explained the initiative will close down “underproductive” stores to put more emphasis on luxury sales, NBC News reported.
“The closures will leave approximately 350 Macy’s locations, as well as Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury beauty and skincare stores,” the outlet said.
“It is those latter brands that the company sees as its future: It said it plans to take advantage of its leadership position in the luxury market, where it said Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury have been ‘outperformers’ within the Macy’s portfolio,” the report continued.
In the coming three years, the company’s leadership plans to build out 15 Bloomingdale’s locations, 30 Bluemercury stores, and remodel 30 Bluemercury locations.
The news comes about a month after Macy’s said it was planning to slash 2,350 jobs and shut down five stores:
Per the recent NBC News article, “Macy’s has been under pressure from investor activists seeking an outright sale of the company due to its decade-long underperformance, with Macy’s real estate considered its most valuable asset,” the outlet said, adding the company has refused a takeover offer.
Macy’s is the biggest department store chain in America, KTVU reported Tuesday, noting the locations of the 150 stores that are set to close have not yet been revealed.
In September, high-end stores in the Beverly Hills area of California reportedly began closing because of rampant smash-and-grab robberies.
Earlier in 2023, Breitbart News reported that Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and other major stores were closing some of their locations across America due to a rise in thefts.
“In 2021, retailers lost a combined $94.5 billion from theft and inventory loss, according to the 2022 National Retail Security Survey. California has seen 35 retail outlets close while New York closed 23 and Illinois closed 18. Florida also closed 21 stores.”

WATCH: Chicago Jewelry Store Employee Opens Fire on Alleged Robber
A Chicago jewelry store employee with a concealed carry permit opened fire on an alleged robber just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning, striking him with at least two bullets.
CWChicago reported the alleged 27-year-old robber walked to a jewelry case near the store’s front door and allegedly swung at it, in order to smash the glass. As this was happening, “a man behind the counter draws a pistol, racks the slide, and fires as the [alleged] thief appears to be turning toward the door.”
The alleged robber then falls out of the door, but quickly reaches back inside to pick up something that he dropped. He then ran to the “L” platform, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen and one to the buttocks.
The alleged robber was released from custody Sunday but CBS News noted charges “are pending.”
Christine lives near the jewelry story and she told CBS News, “I think to throw all the responsibility on the business owners or the residences is really not the right way to go.”
She added, “The crime is just escalating, and it’s getting worse and worse. We had kids killed a few weeks ago. Now this armed robbery, it’s a shame.”

Mississippi Cop Busted for Allegedly Stealing Sneakers While in Uniform
A Mississippi police officer was arrested by her own chief after allegedly attempting to walk out of a sporting goods store with stolen shoes on her feet.
Robin Conner, 33, had served with the Columbus Police Department for two years when she was busted Wednesday at a Dick’s Sporting Goods for allegedly trying to steal a $140 pair of tennis shoes, Chief Joseph Daughtry told the Columbus Dispatch.
Not only was Conner on duty when the incident occurred — she was in uniform.
When a Dick’s employee stopped Conner from leaving and called 911 to report a uniformed officer trying to shoplift, dispatchers called a supervisor at Conner’s own precinct.
“Myself, the assistant chief, and the captain over patrol all responded,” Daughtry said.
Conner was taken into custody in her own squad car, reports WTVA.
“We’re putting her in jail,” said the chief. “It’s embarrassing for the department, but we’re going to treat her like we would anybody else.”
The disgraced cop was first placed on administrative leave but was soon fired when the Columbus city council unanimously voted to remove her on Thursday.
Conner has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting for stealing goods worth less than $1,000 and was given an $862 surety bond, WCBI reported.
“We have a job to do, and we’re held to a higher standard. And the community is just starting to trust us, and to take this gut punch really hurts. That’s why we fulfilled our obligation, not only to the store but to the community,” said Daughtry.
Conner happily commemorated “National Law Enforcement Day” in January with several smiling photos in uniform:

NYC Officials Indict Woman for ‘Intentionally’ Ramming Policeman with Car
A woman has been indicted after being accused of intentionally hitting a policeman with her car in New York City on January 17, breaking his leg.
In a press release Friday, Manhattan District Attorney (DA) Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. (D) announced the indictment against 24-year-old Sahara Dula, who was reportedly high on marijuana when the incident happened.
The suspect was charged with one count of attempted assault in the first degree, one count of attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, two counts of assault in the second degree, one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, and a single count of reckless driving.
Dula is accused of driving her black Lexus northbound in the southbound lanes on Park Avenue for several blocks, the DA’s office said:
She swerved in and out of traffic and changed speeds until she reached East 71st Street, where she paused in the middle of the intersection while she was blocked by traffic.
A police officer in the area approached DULA’s vehicle on foot to direct her into the proper lane of traffic. Instead of complying, DULA accelerated and hit him with her vehicle, causing him to roll up onto the hood of the car and fall to the ground. She was eventually arrested by another police officer in the area.
When investigators spoke with Dula after the incident, she reportedly told them she hit the officer on purpose, according to Breitbart News, which also noted that she is a Black Lives Matter (BLM) activist.
“F–k these cops! He wouldn’t move!” she allegedly said at the time of the incident. The woman then reportedly stated, “F–k these cops; it’s a lesson to him, and hopefully, he doesn’t want to be a cop anymore.”
Video footage shows what happened:
Officials said the officer involved has not been able to return to his job due to the pain he continues to endure.
The number of police officers in Democrat-run New York City injured during incidents with alleged criminals has increased in recent years, Breitbart News reported Sunday.
In 2023, 5,363 officers were hurt during their shifts.
Authorities Arrest 2 Attackers Who Broke into SUV of Biden’s Granddaughter
Authorities arrested two of the three alleged attackers who broke into a Secret Service SUV of President Joe Biden’s granddaughter, according to authorities and court documents.
The arrests represent seemingly rare cases in which authorities arrested suspects accused of crime. The timing of the arrests suggests the Biden administration recognizes soaring crime as a political vulnerability for the Democrat party.
Crime in the Democrat-controlled city spiked in 2023, according to police department data:
- Homicides: Up 35 percent
- Robberies: Up 67 percent
- Violent Crime: Up 39 percent
- Motor Vehicle Theft: Up 82 percent
The Washington Post reported the specifics of the first arrest, which occurred on February 14:
The arrests of 19-year-old Robert Kemp and the youth came after authorities said a D.C. police officer found the getaway car, a stolen red Toyota Corolla, abandoned in 16th Street Heights. Inside it were items taken from the Secret Service vehicle, including a protective vest, night-vision goggles, a first aid bag and a computer router. Authorities also found a McDonald’s bag and food receipt; the affidavit says fingerprints on the items led them to the arrests.
The U.S. Secret Service says in the affidavit that Kemp, who lives in Northwest Washington, was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle pertaining to the Corolla and theft in connection with the items taken from the Secret Service vehicle, a black Ford Expedition.
A charging document filed in court shows only the unauthorized-use charge, typically filed when authorities cannot prove a person linked to the vehicle is the same person who stole it. A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney’s office in D.C. said she could not comment on charging decisions. Prosecutors can file additional charges as the investigation continues.
Authorities also arrested an unidentified 14-year-old on Friday. They charged him with three counts of armed carjacking and alleged he was involved in several additional crimes around the District. The Post reported police said the 14-year-old was linked to the Secret Service SUV incident. Authorities charged him as a juvenile.
Residents in the District blame Biden-appointed U.S. attorney Matthew Graves for the crime surge. Graves refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested who would have been put on trial in the D.C. Superior Court, according to 2022 District statistics. In 2023, he did not prosecute 56 percent of those arrested.
Much of the D.C. crime is carried out by juveniles. For instance, 65 percent of those arrested for carjacking are juveniles, according to police data. In the first ten months of 2023, 760 carjackings occurred.
Graves said in August that his office would crack down on some crimes committed by juveniles, but his office generally does not prosecute them. Because the D.C. juvenile court maintains jurisdiction over delinquent acts, prosecutors in juvenile court must file a petition to transfer juveniles to criminal court for prosecution as adults. The U.S. Attorney’s Office then prosecutes the juveniles in the adult system from a statutory list of serious crimes. Graves has the first right of refusal of such a petitioned case.

California Dem Introduces Bill To Divert Surplus Funds to Reparations Amid Historic Budget Deficit
A California Democrat last week introduced a bill that would divert reserve funds from an economic relief fund to pay for reparations amid a historic budget deficit in the state.
California law requires unspent money from the state's General Fund to go to the Special Fund for Economic Uncertainties (SFEU), a reserve that lawmakers have broad discretion to use for public purposes. Democratic state senator Steven Bradford's S.B. 1331 would require the state's controller, its chief fiscal officer, to put 6 percent of the money transferred to the SFEU into a reparations fund the bill would create.
"The bill would require the controller to transfer from the Special Fund for Economic Uncertainties to the Fund for Reparations and Restorative Justice an amount equal to 6 percent of transfers from the General Fund to the Special Fund for Economic Uncertainties, as specified," the text reads.
The reparations fund would give money to support "policies that indemnify African-American descendants of a chattel enslaved person or descendants of a free black person living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century."
Bradford told the Washington Free Beacon in a statement that the reparations fund would implement potential reparations policies approved by the legislature and governor. He also defended his proposal to allocate money to it from the state's reserve funds.
"SB 1331 does not take funding from any existing program but would be funded from general fund budget reserves," Bradford said. "The bill moves the discussion from the rhetorical to reality. ... By making a deposit in a public fund for reparations, we will be acknowledging the importance of addressing systemic inequalities rooted in policies like redlining and the racially motivated use of eminent domain laws to displace Black families and Black businesses. These are harms that have actually happened in California and are documented in the California Reparations Task Force report."
Bradford's bill came days before a government watchdog warned that California's budget deficit swelled to $73 billion, due to a $24 billion decrease in revenues. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) had predicted last month that the deficit would be under $40 billion.
In addition to Bradford's bill, the state's Legislative Black Caucus introduced a package of 14 proposed bills on Wednesday to address the issue of reparations. Although there was no legislation to provide for direct cash payments to descendants of slaves, it did include an apology for human rights violations and the prioritization of African-American applicants—especially descendants of slaves—for occupational licensing.
Bradford's introduction of the bill comes after he served on the state's Reparations Task Force, which last summer released an 1,100-page report with recommendations that included decriminalizing public urination and defunding school police.
