Eight allegedly armed jewelry store robbers fled Oakland’s Phuong Jewelry Wednesday after the 76-year-old owner emerged from the back of the store holding a shotgun.

ABC 7 reported the attempted robbery occurred in broad daylight, around 12:30 p.m.

Phuong Jewelry is family owned and the 69-year-old mother was working at the time of the allegedly robbery.

ABC 7 noted: “Surveillance shows 69-year old mother Diane ducking for cover and screaming for help as those eight individuals smash nearly every single case and ransack the shop. With no security guard on duty at the time, Diane’s 76-year-old husband comes storming in wielding a firearm which scares the suspects away.”

News 9 Live pointed out the store has been robbed before, but the owners indicated the Wednesday incident “was the worst robbery that the family-owned business had experienced.”

Democrat-run Oakland saw crime rise exponentially in 2023.

On February 2, 2024, CNN observed that police data showed “Robberies grew 38% last year in Oakland, …burglaries increased 23%, [and] motor vehicle theft jumped 44%.”

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice surrendered to police Thursday after he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run car wreck that injured four people.

His appearance came a day after a warrant was issued for his arrest on eight charges related to the crash last month in Dallas.

Police in Dallas, Texas, said two speeding cars, a Lamborghini and Corvette, caused “a chain reaction collision” on 30 March, as Breitbart News reported.

Four people received treatment as a result of the accident, including two people who were hospitalized.

Rice’s charges include aggravated assault and collision involving serious bodily injury.

The second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft appeared at Glenn Heights County, Texas, the Dallas Police Department said in a statement, adding he was processed at the Regional Jail in DeSoto.

Jail records obtained by Fox 4 confirm he was booked into the DeSoto jail and was released after posting a $40,000 bond.

Dallas police said Thursday night that co-accused Theodore Knox, 21,was not in police custody.

Knox, a cornerback for the Southern Methodist University, was suspended from his team over the incident on Thursday, UPI reports.

“SMU takes these allegations seriously,” a SMU spokesperson said in a statement, stating they had been notified of the arrest warrant for Knox by Dallas police.

“Federal student privacy laws prevent the University from discussing details involving student disciplinary proceedings.”

White House Expresses Condolences to OJ’s Family, No Mention of Victims

The White House sparked controversy on Thursday when it expressed condolences to the family of OJ Simpson without mentioning the families of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman – the two people he had been accused of (and acquitted of) murdering before being found unanimously responsible for their deaths in a civil trial.

“Our thoughts are with his families [sic] during this difficult time — obviously with his family and loved ones,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a briefing.

“And I’ll say this: I know that they have asked for some privacy. And so we’re going to respect that. And I’ll just leave it there,” she added.

Simpson’s family announced his death at the age of 76 on Thursday following a battle with prostate cancer.

“He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren,” a statement from the family said. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

As Breitbart News reported, Simpson’s star power following a prolific football career, which included 11 NFL seasons as a star running back with the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers, cratered in the early 1990s when he stood accused of the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman. Though he was acquitted of those murders following a lengthy and controversial trial, a jury later unanimously declared him liable for their deaths in a civil trial.

The Goldman family only expressed sorrow upon learning of OJ’s death, saying it reminded them of Ron Goldman’s absence.

“The only thing I have to say is it’s just further reminder of Ron being gone all these years,” Fred Goldman told NBC News.

“It’s no great loss to the world. It’s a further reminder of Ron’s being gone,” he added.
