Report: California Democrats Backing Away from Nancy Pelosi
Several Democratic congressional candidates are reportedlybacking away from supporting House Minority Leader Sen. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), a and attacking her hoping that it will help their chances of winning at the polls.
“While I respect Leader Pelosi’s years of advocacy on behalf of California and the Democratic Party, it’s time for new leadership,” Gil Cisneros, who is running for the soon-to-be-retired seat of Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), said in a statement as to his decision not to support Pelosi if his party takes back the House and she runs for speaker.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Democrat Andrew Janz, who is running against GOP Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Tulare), has also stated he would not support Pelosi.
“I think it’s time for a new generation of leaders to go to Washington, and this is with respect to both Democrats and Republicans,” Janz said. “I think the country, and my district in particular, is hungry for change.”
According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released earlier this month, 45 percent of registered voters were less likely to back a congressional candidate who wants to make Pelosi speaker. That same poll reportedly found just 21 percent said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who wants to see Pelosi as the speaker and 32 percent said it would make no difference in their decision-making process.
Last year, Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) criticized Pelosi over what he, and members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), believe were her attempts to empower junior members of Congress — by making certain positions available only to lawmakers who have served fewer than three or four terms — while ensuring that she and Reps. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and Steny Hoyer (D-MD) remain in their current posts.
Republicans are using this anti-Pelosi move to tie congressional candidates to the seasoned Democrat in an attempt to discredit them at the polls.
California has been the square focus of Democrats who are looking to flip the House through key congressional districts that have Republican representation.
Despite this, Pelosi says she’s more concerned about winning back the House than the sentiment toward her and what may or may not happen regarding her leadership after the fact.
“Leader Pelosi has always enjoyed the overwhelming support of House Democrats, and that will continue into the majority she’s so focused on winning,” Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi told the San Francisco Chronicle. “Democrats don’t let Republicans choose our leaders.”

Slew of MS-13 Members From El Salvador Charged With Murder of Teenagers in Virginia
The Department of Justice announced murder and kidnapping charges for eleven MS-13 gang members in Alexandria, Virginia Friday morning. All of them are from El Salvador, range in age from 20 to 27-years old and are being prosecuted for the killing of teenagers Edvin Escobar Mendez and Sergio Arita Triminio.
One of the defendants is not in custody and suspected of being out of the country. The other ten are being held in federal detention. Whether the members are in the U.S. illegally is unclear.
"While we note in the press release that all of the defendants are from El Salvador, we did not include any information as to their immigration status," U.S. Attorney’s Office Director of Communications for the Eastern District of Virginia Joshua Stueve tells Townhall.
From DOJ:
According to allegations in the indictment, in August 2016, Elmer Zelaya Martinez, Erick Palacios Ruiz, Ronald Herrera Contreras, and Josue Vigil Mejia conspired together and with others to lure a 17 year-old male [Mendez], who they suspected was a member of a rival gang, to a park in Fairfax County, Virginia, in order to attack and kill him. After killing him and to conceal evidence linking them to the juvenile’s disappearance and murder, these four defendants and their co-conspirators buried the juvenile’s remains. The indictment further alleges that in September 2016, Elmer Zelaya Martinez, Erick Palacios Ruiz, Ronald Herrera Contreras, Henry Zelaya Martinez, Oscar Contreras Aguilar, Yonathan Melgar Martinez, Pablo Miguel Barrera Velasco, Anderson Villatoro, Francisco Avila Avalos, and Fredys Baires Abarca conspired together and with others to lure a 14 year-old male [Triminio] to the same park in Fairfax County where he was attacked and killed because he was thought to be cooperating with law enforcement. This juvenile’s remains were also buried.
Each of the following members face life in prison if convicted.
The charges are part of the Justice Department's ongoing crackdown on the violent, transnational gang. Prosecutors are seeking DOJ approval to charge death eligible offenses.
Levin Unloads on Immigration: Dems, Media Propagandists, RINOs ‘Incentivizing Lawlessness, Chaos’
On his Facebook and Twitterpages Thursday morning, nationally syndicated radio talk show host, Fox News Channel “Life, Liberty & Levin” host, author and American lawyer Mark Levin unloaded on immigration, suggesting that Democrats, their media propagandists and RINOs “are incentivizing lawlessness, chaos, and the human misery that comes with it” in demanding amnesty and refusing to secure the southern border.
“By demanding amnesty and refusing to secure the southern border, the open borders Democrats and their propagandists, joined by RINOs, are incentivizing lawlessness, chaos, and the human misery that comes with it,” stated Mark Levin on Twitter and his Facebook page.
Mark Levin’s comments came after President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order halting family separation at the border on Wednesday. As reported by CNSNews.com, Trump said the following before signing the executive order, titled “Affording Congress an Opportunity to Address Family Separation”: “We're signing an executive order I consider to be a very important executive order. It's about keeping families together while at the same time making sure that we have a very powerful, very strong border, and border security will be equal, if not greater than previously.”
President Trump’s signing of the executive order, however, “wasn’t enough” for the liberal media, reported Newsbusters’ Nicholas Fondacaro, as “[t]he liberal broadcast networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC dedicated another 89 minutes of airtime to the issue on Wednesday alone.”
Levin opened his social media comments ripping Democrats and media on the U.S. “zero-tolerance” immigration policy, saying, “The open borders Democrats and media policy: if you’re an alien adult and come to our country illegally with a child, you’re welcome here.”
Turning to previous administrative actions, Levin then detailed a bit of the history behind U.S. immigration policy.
“It was the Clinton administration that settled a lawsuit in 1997 resulting in the release from detention of illegal alien kids in 20 days, thereby separating them from the adults who are being processed through the immigration system,” tweeted Levin.
Levin continued in another tweet: “It is the Obama administration that schizophrenically separated from adults and detained some illegal alien minors, but also allowing illegal alien adults and children accompanying them into the country without upholding immigration law.”
Trump: 'The Democrats Want Open Borders...We Are Not Going to Let It Happen'
(CNSNews.com) - "Just returning from the Great State of Minnesota where we had an incredible rally with 9,000 people, and at least 10,000 who could not get in - I will return!" President Donald Trump tweeted Wednesday night.
"Thank you Duluth, Minnesota. Together, we are MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" he added in a second tweet. And finally, in a third tweet: "So sorry, people wanting to get into the already packed arena - I LOVE YOU ALL!"
The enthusiastic crowd at the campaign rally erupted in frequent cheers as President Trump listed his accomplishments to date. And right on cue, the crowd booed and erupted in derogatory chants when President Trump mentioned the "fake news."
Notably, the crowd cheered President Trump's immigration policy, which has been the hottest topic in Washington of late; and they cheered when President Trump accused Democrats of using the immigrant child issue to distract from the "corruption" in Washington:
"The Democrats want open borders," Trump told the crowd.
"Let everybody come in. Let everybody pour in -- we don't care, let them come in from the Middle East, let them come in from all over the place. We don't care.
"We are not going to let it happen! By the way, today I signed an executive order. We are going to keep families together, but the border is going to be just as tough as it's been. (Cheering)
"Democrats don't care about the impact of uncontrolled migration on your communities, your schools, your hospitals, your jobs, or your safety. Democrats put illegal immigrants before they put American citizens. What the hell is going on?
"Illegal immigration costs our country hundreds of billions of dollars. So imagine if we could spend that money to help bring opportunity to our inner cities and our rural communities and our roads and our highways and our schools."
The crowd erupted in chants of "build that wall," and President Trump said he's already started it. "But boy, it's tough. They (Democrats) want to do anything they can to obstruct and to make sure it doesn't happen, but it's happening."
(A lone protester was escorted out of the rally at this point, and Trump joked that he or she -- he couldn't tell -- should go home to mommy.)
Trump, resuming, said he wants people to come into the country legally, "but we want people to come in through merit, not just through luck or happenstance."
"And we need people," he added, as companies create more and more jobs to be filled.
Trump said the Democrats' open-border policies have allowed drugs and gangs to pour into the country. "And we're stopping it," he said.
Later in the rally, Trump referenced the "scam" and "phony witch hunt" taking place in Washington. "Do you believe what you're seeing? he asked, saying that Hillary Clinton got a pass while he's being investigated for nothing:
Called a phony witch hunt. Phony witch hunt. But you look at the corruption, Did you ever see anything like it, really? Today, more things. Pelosi Says Border Wall is 'Immoral'
(CNSNews.com) -- When asked whether it would be better to build a border wall to stop people from illegally entering the United States than to have to arrest them once they do enter, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said a border wall is "immoral," and added that it it is better to "build a bridge."
At a Capitol Hill press conference on Thursday, CNSNews.com asked Pelosi, "Would it be better to build a wall at the border -- that stops people from illegally crossing it -- than have to arrest them when they do?"
Pelosi said, "No, it would not be better to build a wall. A wall is expensive, ineffective, immoral, and where there might be some places where its useful from a security and a mutally agreed-upon protection for each side to have some structure, let's see what that is. But it's not better to build a wall. what's better to do is to build a bridge."
During his 2016 campaign and now as president, Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the building of a 30-foot wall along the U.S.-Mexico border where it is physically possible and practical. Currently there are about 650 miles of pedestrian-style fencing along the 1,989-mile U.S.-Mexico border. Most of that southern border is wide open, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific.
Democrats, some Republicans, and liberal activists strongly oppose the erection of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. . Less than an hour before Pelosi’s press conference, President Trump tweeted, “Democrats want open Borders, where anyone can come into our Country, and stay. This is Nancy Pelosi’s dream. It won’t happen!"
