RIO BRAVO, Tamaulipas — Gunmen with Mexico’s Gulf Cartel dismembered and dumped the remains of six victims in public places as violence escalates in the border cities of Tamaulipas.
In the early morning hours, Tamaulipas state police officers responded to a supermarket in Rio Bravo after residents claimed to see five large trash bags with human remains inside. Authorities sealed off the area while forensic investigators documented the crime scene and confirmed that the bags contained the dismembered remains of at least five victims.
At almost the same time, authorities responded to the highway between Reynosa and Matamoros, near Rio Bravo, where cartel gunmen dumped an ice chest with the dismembered remains of one victim. Authorities again blocked off the area while investigators gathered and photographed the scene.
Soon after the two gory scenes were responded to, members of the Gulf Cartel in Reynosa disseminated a message through social media taking credit and threatening their rivals. The message was allegedly signed by a commander who calls himself “Flako Sierra” and his right hand, Commander Marin. In the message, the cartel faction from Reynosa claims to be targeting rivals from the Gulf Cartel in Matamoros and their own turncoats.
As Breitbart Texas reported for more than a year, rival factions of the Gulf Cartel are fighting for control of Reynosa. The violence set off a wave of fierce gun battles and executions that led to more than 470 murders in that city since May 2017.

Texas Deputy Seizes $3M in Meth During Traffic Stop

A Texas sheriff’s deputy seized nearly $3 million in methamphetamine following a routine traffic stop between San Antonio and Houston. The deputy, and his K-9 partner, routinely make multi-million dollar drug seizures and find large quantities of cash proceeds from narcotics trafficking.
Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Randy Thumann and his K-9 partner “Lobos” made a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Schulenburg, Texas. During the traffic stop, Sgt. Thumann used his drug interdiction skills during an interview with the driver and his wife. Thumann became suspicious that the driver could be smuggling drugs from Mexico to Houston after uncovering discrepancies in his travel itinerary, according to a statement provided to Breitbart Texas by Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Lt. David Beyer.
The sergeant obtained permission to search the vehicle. During the search, Lobos executed a walk-around search and alerted to the scent of illegal narcotics coming from the vehicle.
Sgt. Thumann carried out a visual inspection of the Nissan Murano and discovered anomalies with the fuel tank. After dropping the fuel tank, Thumann found 16 bundles of drugs, Beyer stated.
The drugs tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 27 kilograms. Fayette County officials estimate the value of the meth to be approximately $2.7 million.
Thumann arrested Mendez Ramos and seized the vehicle and drugs. The deputy transported the Mexican national to the county jail for processing.
Breitbart Texas learned from Lt. Beyer that the Mexican national is legally present in the U.S. on a visa. Jail officials said the man could be deported if he is convicted.
Breitbart Texas also reached out to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. Officials could not immediately respond to requests about the driver’s status.
In February, Sgt. Thumann and Lobos found $6 million worth of methamphetamine in the fuel tank of a Chevy Tahoe driving in Interstate 10 near Flatonia, Texas, Breitbart Texas reported. He also uncovered $21,000 in cash during a traffic stop in March.

Four Mexican nationals were extradited back to the United States, on April 26 and May 2, to face charges for egregious sex trafficking offenses committed in both countries, as detailed in a 23-count indictment.
The 16-page indictment (pdf) alleges that the defendants were members of an international sex trafficking organization that exploited and trafficked women and children, in both Mexico and the United States, from 2000 to 2016.
The traffickers used “romantic promises, physical and sexual violence, threats of the same, lies and coercion to force and coerce adult and minor women” to work as prostitutes in both countries, according to the indictment. The organization operated largely as a family business.
“Sex trafficking is a heinous crime that violates both the rule of law and the most basic standards of human dignity,” Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement. “The scope of devastation these defendants allegedly inflicted on countless victims is beyond comprehension. But now they face significant criminal charges in an American court, and will have to answer for their allegedly reprehensible actions.”
Berman announced the extraditions on May 4, with Acting Assistant Attorney General John M. Gore and Angel M. Melendez, special agent in charge of the New York field office of ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations.
The extraditions come as the Trump administration is pushing for enforcement of border laws as thousands of illegal immigrants, mostly from Mexico and Central America, continue to illegally cross the southern border.
“Our immigration laws in this country are a total disaster,” President Donald Trump said during a press conference on April 30. “We are a nation of laws—we have to have borders. If we don’t have borders, we don’t have a country.”
Out of the four nationals, Efrain Granados-Corona and Emilio Rojas-Romero were extradited to the United States from Mexico on April 26, while Alan Romero-Granados and Pedro Rojas-Romero were both extradited on May 2, according to the Department of Justice.
“These four individuals were transported more than 2,000 miles from Mexico to be held accountable for the callous criminal actions alleged in this case,” Melendez said in the release. “Now these traffickers will face justice where they allegedly made their income, right here in New York.”
Six defendants, including the four that were recently extradited, were arrested in Mexico and taken into government custody after the U.S. government requested provisional arrest warrants back in August 2016. Julio Sainz-Flores, the fifth defendant, was previously extradited in June last year, while the sixth, Juan Romero-Granados, remains in Mexico, pending extradition proceedings.
Since taking office, Trump has vowed to battle international human trafficking rings and has emphasized border security as an important deterrent.
“The drugs are a big factor, but … human trafficking is worse than it’s ever been in the history of this world. And who would think in this modern-day age?” Trump said on April 19. “So it really is a big problem.”
Based on data published in government releases and media reports, nearly 3,300 victims of human trafficking have been rescued around the world and more than 5,300 suspects have been arrested since Trump took office.
Last month, nearly 350 victims of modern-day slavery were rescued as part of a coordinated police raid across 13 countries in the Americas by Interpol. About 500 officers helped to arrest 22 people after the victims comprising of men, women, and children were found working in nightclubs, farms, mines, factories, and open-air markets. Some worked in extremely cramped conditions.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump unloaded on Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen at a heated Cabinet meeting this week, railing against her for failing to stop illegal border crossings.
Trump, who has grown increasingly frustrated by a spike in border apprehensions and legal setbacks, blamed Nielsen Wednesday for failing to do enough to stop them, according to people familiar with the exchange.
Nielsen, one person said, tried to explain the issues were complex and that the department's powers were limited by a slew of legal restrictions. She told the president her team was doing everything it could, but the president was left unconvinced.
The episode, first reported by The New York Times, left Nielsen on the verge of resignation, according to the paper, which also said Nielsen, the former deputy White House chief of staff, had drafted — but not submitted — a resignation letter.
The department pushed back against that characterization.
Homeland Security spokesman Tyler Houlton said in a tweet that, "The @nytimes article alleging that the Secretary drafted a resignation letter yesterday and was close to resigning is false."
The secretary, he added, was "hard at work" Thursday "on the President's security-focused agenda and supporting the men and women of @DHSgov."
Nielsen did not deny the meeting had grown heated in a statement Thursday evening, but said she shared the president's frustrations.
"The president is rightly frustrated that existing loopholes and the lack of congressional action have prevented this administration from fully securing the border and protecting the American people. I share his frustration," she said in a statement.
She added that "border security is the most basic and necessary responsibility of a sovereign nation" and said she would "continue to direct the department to do all we can to implement the president's security-focused agenda."
White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, who pushed for Nielsen — his former deputy — to be DHS secretary, told reporters Friday that he expects her to stay on the job.
He declined to say whether Nielsen had been treated fairly in the meeting, saying only, "We had a good Cabinet meeting," during a brief question-and-answer session in the White House Rose Garden.
Trump has growing increasingly angry about his inability to secure the border and has repeatedly called on Congress to pass new legislation to strengthen what he calls the nation's "horrible" immigration laws.
Trump has also been frustrated with Nielsen, according to people familiar with the dynamic. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose private conversations.
During a rally in Elkhart, Indiana, Thursday evening, Trump complained, "We have the worst immigration laws in the history of mankind." He urged voters to "give me some reinforcements, please" in the form of new Republican members.
While border apprehensions dipped last year to their lowest levels ever, the numbers have been ticking up in recent months, returning to more typical historical levels.
Trump has also been frustrated with Congress's refusal to fully fund his promised border wall along the nation's southern border, and some in the administration had accused DHS leaders of slow-walking more aggressive efforts to separate children from their parents at the border.
U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions this week announced a new "zero-tolerance" policy toward people who enter the United States illegally that may cause more separations. A conviction for illegal entry carries a maximum penalty of six months in custody for first-time crossers, though they usually do far less time, and two years for repeat offenses.
Report: DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen ‘Was Close to Resigning’ After Trump Blasted Her for Not Securing Border

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen “was close to resigning” from President Trump’s administration after she was blasted for failing to secure the U.S.-Mexico border against a caravan of Central Americans, a report says.
According to the New York Times, Nielsen almost left the Trump administration following a series of complaints from Trump in front of the entire White House cabinet that she had not successfully secured the southern border.
The report states:
Kirstjen Nielsen, the homeland security secretary, told colleagues she was close to resigning after President Trump berated her on Wednesday in front of the entire cabinet for what he said was her failure to adequately secure the nation’s borders, according to several current and former officials familiar with the incident. [Emphasis added]Ms. Nielsen, who is a protégée of John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, has drafted a resignation letter but has not submitted it, according to two of the people. As the head of the Department of Homeland Security, Ms. Nielsen is in charge of the 20,000 border agents who work for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Mr. Trump’s anger toward Ms. Nielsen at the cabinet meeting was part of a lengthy tirade in which the president railed at his entire cabinet about what he said was their lack of progress toward sealing the country’s borders against illegal immigrants, according to one person who was present at the meeting. DHS press secretary Tyler Houlton said in an online post that the claims that Nielsen was on the verge of quitting are untrue.
Nielsen’s DHS has been swamped with rising illegal immigration levels at the southern border. In the month of April, nearly 40,000 illegal aliens were caught attempting to cross into the U.S.
At the same time, DHS failed to keep a caravan of Central Americans at bay, with hundreds storming the border and seeking asylum through the ports of entry.
Most recently, in congressional testimony, Nielsen begged foreign nationals to use the ports of entry to enter the U.S. legally and seek asylum, despite DHS already being overwhelmed with border-crossers and asylum-seekers.
Nielsen formerly worked for President George W. Bush when thousands of illegal aliens were allowed to enter the U.S. after Hurricane Katrina to take coveted blue-collar jobs. Nielsen also previously authored a report promoting mass immigration as a win for big business.

A drug cartel's assassins who killed three film students apparently mistaken for members of a rival gang and dissolved their bodies in acid did the same thing to nine other people, authorities said.
Interior Secretary Alfonso Navarrete said investigators had detected DNA from 12 separate people in residual fats found at a location where one of the killers confessed to having dissolved bodies in sulfuric acid.
Navarrete did not say whether any of the DNA profiles matched those of Salomon Aceves Gastelum, 25, Daniel Diaz, 20, and Marco Avalos, 20, three film students who were abducted March 19 on the outskirts of the western city of Guadalajara.

The three students were unwittingly working on a film project for school at a house that was apparently being watched by members of the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel.
The house had once been used by a rival drug gang, and the Jalisco cartel apparently suspected the students were part of that gang.
One suspect said the cartel killed the students after interrogating them and then dissolved their bodies.
The DNA findings lent more credence to the tale told by a young rapper who said he had been employed by the cartel to dissolve bodies.

That suspect, Christian Omar Palma Gutierrez, is a 24-year-old rapper who built a YouTube channel with more than a half-million views based on songs describing an anguished, violent life of drugs and crime.
Palma Gutierrez confessed to working for the Jalisco New Generation cartel, Mexico's fastest-growing and most violent gang, as what the gang calls a "cook."
By his account, for 3,000 pesos a week, he dumped bodies head-first into acid baths set up in water tanks in the yard of a cartel safe house.
He would come back after two days - after the acid had done its work - and open drain valves to release the fluid into the storm drain, and remove remaining sludge to dump it in fields.
However, some sludge remained in the bottom of the tanks, and that is apparently where investigators found the DNA.

Mexican Gang Charged With Terrorizing Blacks
To demonstrate its loyalty to the notoriously violent Mexican Mafia prison gang, an affiliate Latino street organization has worked to cleanse a southern California city of black residents by terrorizing, threatening and intimidating them.
Details of the decades-long genocide operation in the Los Angeles County city of Azusa are laid out in a huge grand jury indictment issued by the Department of Justice this week. More than 50 Latino gang bangers, many of them surely in the U.S. illegally, have been charged for targeting blacks by beating, robbing and threatening them.
The goal was to drive blacks out of the predominantly working-class Latino city of about 46,000. The crimes were committed by members of the Azusa 13 gang, which runs a sophisticated criminal enterprise financed with lucrative drug-trafficking proceeds. The gang also taxes the area’s drug dealers and shares some of the money with the Mexican Mafia, according to the 112-page indictment.
Latino gangs have for more than a decade targeted blacks in the sprawling southern California County, which is an illegal alien hotbed that has long offered sanctuary. In the last few years alone, dozens of Latino gangbangers have been charged with murdering, harassing or attacking blacks in the area, the feds say in their indictment.
As far back as 1999 the Azusa 13 was targeting blacks in the area, prosecutors say. That year a 17-year-old member named Ralph “Swifty” Flores murdered a black teenager and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In 2008 an illegal immigrant from a different gang murdered a Los Angeles high school footballs star shortly after completing a prison sentence for a separate felony.

Police arrested 75 alleged gang leaders Tuesday in a one-day sweep in the Central Valley for offenses including attempted murder and drug trafficking, state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris said Wednesday.
The raids, which involved helicopters and canine units, occurred at 50 locations in the cities of Madera, Los Banos, Livingston, Merced, Atwater and Dos Palos as part of the Operation Red Zone crackdown, Harris said.

Dozens charged with conspiring to launder drug cartel money
SAN
DIEGO (AP) — Dozens of people across the U.S. have been charged in connection
with an international conspiracy to launder tens of millions of dollars in drug
money for Mexican cartels, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
The
U.S. Attorney's Office in San Diego unsealed 40 indictments against defendants
accused in the scheme dating to 2015. Investigators seized more than $6 million
in cash as well as weapons and large quantities of drugs, including
methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana, officials said.
Mexican-based
brokers oversaw a network of "money movers" who transported drug
proceeds throughout the U.S. in boxes and duffel bags and deposited the cash
into so-called funnel bank accounts, according to prosecutors. From there the
funds were wired to accounts for false companies in Mexico controlled by drug
suppliers, including members of the Sinaloa cartel, they said.
"By
following the money, we have discovered large quantities of fentanyl, heroin
and methamphetamine that are no longer destined for the streets of
America," U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman said. "That's a one-two punch
that takes these organizations completely out of the ring and makes our
communities safer."
Undercover
agents witnessed cash deliveries that took place in parking lots of retail
stores, hotels and restaurants in California, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky,
Massachusetts, Missouri, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
A
total of 75 people are charged in the U.S., with some accused of drug
distribution, officials said.

Authorities in Boston have
seized more than 33 pounds of fentanyl - enough to kill millions of people - in
connection with one of Massachusetts' biggest drug busts ever.
Prosecutors said the
synthetic opioid was being sold on the street by a drug gang with links to Mexico's notorious Sinaloa Cartel,
the drug organization once led by Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán.

threshold represents less than 1/1000 of the quantity we've taken off the
street.'
'Individuals who buy and
sell at this level aren't users,' Conley said. 'They're not small-time dealers,
either. They're certainly not selling to support a habit. They're trafficking
in addictive substances that claim more lives in Massachusetts than all
homicides, all suicides, and all car crashes, statewide, combined.'
He said that the number of
overdoses the seized fentanyl could have caused 'is truly staggering.'

Enough Fentanyl to Kill Millions Found En Route to U.S. South of
Border

A traffic
stop led Mexican authorities to seize enough fentanyl to kill millions of
people as well as almost 1,000 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and other
drugs that were headed to the California border.
This week, Mexico’s National Security Commission announced the seizure of
45.5 kilograms of fentanyl that were found as part of a synthetic drug shipment
in the Mexican beach resort town of Ensenada, Baja California. The seizure also
included more than 914 pounds of crystal meth, 87 pounds of cocaine and 18
pounds of heroin.
Unlike the other synthetic drugs, fentanyl is a medically used
opioid that is considered to be 100 times more powerful than morphine and prone
to lethal overdoses.
According to the Oxford Treatment Center, the lethal dose for an
individual taking fentanyl is 2 milligrams.
The 45.5 kilograms of fentanyl seized is enough to fuel millions
of possible lethal doses.
The seizure was made by federal police forces who spotted an SUV
without license plates that had been traveling along the highway that connects
Ensenada with the town of Lazaro Cardenas. The beach resort of Ensenada is
directly south of the border city of Tijuana and its various ports of entry
into California.
After pulling over the vehicle, authorities searched the SUV
and discovered 10 bundles, three suitcases, 18 bricks and 18 plastic containers
with the various drugs inside. As part of the investigation, Mexican
authorities were able to confirm that the SUV is registered in California.

A group of
cartel gunmen fighting for control of a Mexican coastal state cut out the heart
of one of their living victims while another was beheaded. The violence took
place not far from the beach resort cities of Acapulco and Ixtapa Zihuatanejo,
Guerrero.
The execution was recorded by cartel gunmen who then disseminated
the footage through social media. Mexican intelligence sources revealed to
Breitbart Texas that the murders took place at a ranch near the boundary
between Michoacan and Guerrero states. The location of the murders is not far
from the famed resort city of Acapulco. Law enforcement sources also revealed
that the ranch once belonged to former Los Zetas ally and founder of La Familia
Michoacana, Carlos Rosales Mendoza.
During the execution, a leading figure within Los Viagras Cartel
threatened and tortured two villagers whose hands were tied behind their backs.
The victims were killed for allegedly relaying information to
their rivals. One of the gunmen used a large stick to beat one of the
villagers.
Another gunman then comes up from behind and uses a sharp knife to
slash the man’s throat and then sever his head.
While the second victim screams for mercy, the gunmen use knives
to slice open his chest to the point where they can see the man’s beating
heart. One of the gunmen reached inside the victim’s chest cavity and manually
removed the vital organ.
Soon after the executions, the gunmen issued a series of threats
toward rivals claiming they would meet a similar fate.
The Mexican states of Guerrero and Michoacan are theaters for a
fierce territorial war between the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) and
their rivals with Los Viagras, La Nueva Familia Michoacana, and some factions
of the Sinaloa Cartel.

At least five suspected cartel gunmen were captured in Baja California
Sur on January 29 after firing upon and attempting to flee Mexican Marines
and local police.
The
violent confrontation occurred at approximately 4:30 pm in the popular tourist
spot of La Paz after officers attempted to stop a vehicle full of gunmen. The
governor of Baja California Sur, Carlos Mendoza Davis, confirmed the
circumstances during a press conference with local media outlets.
The
governor reported that five suspects were captured after they retreated into a
residence and exchanged gunfire with security personnel for approximately 30
minutes before they surrendered. Numerous high-powered rifles, handguns, and
ammo were recovered by investigators of the state attorney general’s office
with support from the Marines.
The
armed confrontation was broadcast live on local television, which captured the
arrival of supporting military elements to provide assistance while fully
automatic gunfire could be heard in the background. Civilian footage also
surfaced on YouTube.

La
Paz State Attorney General Daniel de la Rosa Anaya confirmed that
among the detainees is Henry Froylán Rojas Ramirez, aka, “El Zopilote”, who
escaped from San Jose del Cabo state prison in September 2017. Rojas Ramirez
was serving a sentence for since 2014 and was considered one of the regional
leaders of the Caballeros Templarios (Knights Templars Cartel) prior to prison.
According to law enforcement sources, Rojas Ramirez is a former member of the
Mexican armed forces and is originally from Michoacán.
In
recent months, the once quiet area around Baja California has seen an escalation of cartel violence,
triggering the deployment of military forces to take over public
security duties, Breitbart Texas reported. The violence is linked to a fight
for control by the Sinaloa Cartel and Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG).
“Los
Guzmanes” is a cell working for the Sinaloa Cartel that is controlled by the
relatives of jailed leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. “Los Tegoripeños” appears
to be an allied regional unit. The Tegoripeños surfaced in early November when
narco-messages appeared in La Paz and Los Cabos, warning the governor and law
enforcement agencies to align with them, Mexico’s SDP reported.

December that gunmen hung the bodies of six men from three overpasses and left
narco-messages in the tourist hotspots of La Paz and Cabo in Baja California
Sur.

Maybe that border fence would help Mexico, too
Over the last few years,
I've had conversations with Mexican friends who agree that the proposed border
fence could actually be very helpful to stop guns and cash going south
everyday. It could also have an impact on the human traffic and drugs
going north every day. We get drugs and they get billions of dollars in
cash. They get guns and we get people coming in anyway imaginable.
Nearly 200 people from
Mexico and Central America were stuffed inside large trucks and caught trying
to enter the United States illegally during three huge January smuggling busts
that occurred in just nine days.
Officials in southern
California said 77 people, including five children, were found near the
Mexico border Monday packed inside a sweltering truck that had been painted to
resemble a UPS truck.
It raises a couple of
questions:
1) Who checks what comes
out of Mexico? Are there any controls in place on the Mexico side of the
U.S.-Mexico border? The answer is complicated. They tell me that
there are controls in some populated areas but it's wide open in others.
2) Why isn't Mexico
doing a better job controlling the human flow from Central
America? Complicated again. The cartels are now moving people through
the country. They can buy their way from town to town. They travel on
protected routes, or so they tell me.
We feel sorry for the poor
people found in these trucks. Nevertheless, it's time to publicly call out
Mexico and demand more effort on their side of the border. At least,
we should point out the benefits of a border fence to stop this terrible stuff
going north and south.
The Implacable Logic of a Wall

border enforcement agents, something that has always been subject to the
vagaries of the legislative and executive branches. Congress may or may not
appropriate the money to staff officers and agents up to the required levels;
and if they do, a recalcitrant or anti-enforcement president such as Barack
Obama may choose to not take advantage of the money and simply let the funds sit
idle until year's end when they revert back to the Treasury.
Second, and it is a corollary to the above, it is a mistake to think that "smart" technologies somehow supplant the need for a robust officer corps. To the contrary, they absolutely demand it. Every kind of technological advancement, whether it is drones, military-grade sensors, forward-looking infrared radar (FLIR), tower-mounted high powered cameras, or something else, requires a sufficient number of human beings — of trained agents — to respond to intrusion alerts. Law enforcement always has been a human-resource-intensive occupation, and technological wonders won't change that equation, at least, not until we see walking, talking androids capable of apprehending aliens, putting the cuffs on them, advising them of their rights, and transporting and processing them.
Third, and this is critical, all of the smart technologies that have been mentioned in the context of border technology are reactive in nature. They alert agents to respond after an alien has crossed into the United States, and thus has been imbued with constitutional rights to hearings, to make claims, seek various forms of relief, and to stall in each and every way possible his or her removal, no matter how immediate in time or place he was arrested relative to his illegal entry.
The harsh reality is that due process in the immigration context is breaking down. The immigration courts are thoroughly backlogged into the several hundreds of thousands. This, in turn, forces inappropriate or premature release of aliens from detention as the available space is filled. And that, in turn, leads to the kind of situation we have now, wherein there are more than 900,000 (yes, you read that right, nearly a million) aliens loose in the United States who have either absconded from their hearings or failed to report for removal as required.

U.S.
authorities are tracking down the individuals behind a shipment of $1 million
dollars headed south to Mexico’s Gulf Cartel.
Agents
with Homeland Security Investigations are expanding on a traffic stop in
Kingsville, Texas, where authorities found 69 bundles with $1,071,503 in the
cabin of a tractor-trailer heading for McAllen, court records obtained by
Breitbart Texas revealed.
Santos Hernandez Juarez, used a B1-B2 visa to drive in the U.S.
for a company based in Donna, Texas. He was pulled over by local police in
Kingsville because his license plate was covered, records say. During the
traffic stop, Hernandez appeared unusually nervous, raising the suspicions of
the police officer who asked for permission to search the vehicle. The officer
noticed the mattress in the truck’s cabin was heavier than normal and found 69
bundles of cash inside.
The truck was taken to the Kingsville Police Station where a K-9
was used to search for drugs, cash, or weapons. The dog alerted to the cabin
area where the cash was allegedly found. Initially, Hernandez told authorities
that he delivered a load of produce to New York and was on his way back when
three men approached him, asking to deliver an unknown item to McAllen in
exchange for $9,000 USD.
Agents with HSI asked Hernandez for permission to look at his
three phones. After he agreed, authorities found messages that disproved his
original version of events. When confronted, Hernandez changed his story, the
criminal complaint revealed. Hernandez told the agents that he met a man at a
mechanic shop in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, who told him he could make extra money.
The man instructed Hernandez to wait for another person to contact and
coordinate the delivery of cash and receive 1.5 percent of the funds safely delivered
to McAllen, Texas.
Hernandez was formally charged with one count of cash smuggling
and remains in federal custody without bond. HSI agents wrote in the criminal
complaint that the operation was tied to the Gulf Cartel, which controls
Matamoros, and is considered to be a brutal criminal organization that
regularly uses tractor-trailers to move drugs north and proceeds south.

Granted, those statistics are old, but if you talk to any California law enforcement officer, they will tell you it’s much worse today. The problem is that the Brown administration will not release any statewide data on illegal alien crimes. That would be insensitive. And now that California has declared itself a “sanctuary state,” there is little doubt this sends a message south of the border that will further escalate illegal immigration into the state.

Tamaulipas — The citizens of this border city consider it as one of the most
dangerous in Mexico.
The perceived lack of security
conditions was measured through a study of urban public safety by
Mexico’s National Institute for
Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The city where citizens felt
least safe is in Reynosa, according to 95.6 percent of local respondents.
Since 2010, this border city
has been immersed in waves of violence where rival cartel groups fight for
control. The violence began when the Gulf Cartel split off from its former
enforcers, Los Zetas, thus setting off a series of gun battles for control of
the streets. The skirmishes continue in waves where in addition to the fight
with Los Zetas, the CDG went through a series of internal fractures that spread
even more bloodshed. As a consequence of the high cost of being constantly at
war, residents have also been victimized by a spike in extortions, carjackings,
kidnappings, and home and business robberies.

reports, the perception of insecurity
comes at a time when Mexico had its bloodiest year in decades. According to the 2017
statistics, Mexico suffered 29,168 tallied murders, surpassing all prior
records.
