VIDEO – ‘We Fight Back’: California Shopkeepers Chase Off Suspected Thief

Workers at a jewelry store in El Monte, California, did not allow a suspected thief get what he wanted on Saturday.

According to law enforcement, the attempted robbery incident happened just after 2:00 p.m. inside Meza’s Jewelry, a family owned shop located on Main Street, ABC 7 reported.

Video footage shows one of the workers beating a man wearing dark colored clothes with a stick as debris is seen strewn all over the shop’s floor:

The suspected thief struggles to get out the door to make his escape. At one point, an older man wearing a grey shirt rips the suspected thief’s shirt off as he turns and runs from the workers.

The group chases him away from their store and the camera then pans back to the older man who appears to be trying to calm down and catch his breath as he sits near the shop’s entrance.

Police are now investigating the incident that started when the man, who was carrying a hammer, entered the building and allegedly smashed a display case, then pepper sprayed the workers.

“Me, my uncle and my dad were tugging him out. I was trying to defend my family because as you could see he was hitting my dad and my uncle,” one staff member said of the ordeal.

A photo taken inside the store shows the smashed case and glass shards littering the floor:

One nearby business owner told ABC 7 he was not surprised the family protected their store.

“We fight back,” he said of himself and his fellow shopkeepers.

A similar instance happened in August when two 7-Eleven workers in California took matters into their own hands when a man allegedly tried to steal cigarettes from their shop, Breitbart News reported.

Per the outlet:

In June, the California State Senate passed a bill that would bar employers from requiring their workers to intervene during a shoplifting incident, a problem that has increased in the state thanks to criminal justice reforms, Breitbart News reported.

However, retail associations are furious over the move because they say the bill lets potential thieves know they are allowed to steal whenever they wish.

It is also important to note that Breitbart News reported in 2015 that California’s Proposition 47 of 2014, “which changed some drug and property crimes from felonies to misdemeanors,” coincided with increasing crime across different areas of the state.

According to the ABC 7 report, several of the employees were treated for minor injuries after fending off the suspected thief, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Exposing the Hoax Numbers Behind California’s Racial Reparations

The reparations task force accidentally makes a case for payments to white people.

[Editor’s note: Make sure to read Daniel Greenfield’s contributions in Jamie Glazov’s new book: Barack Obama’s True Legacy: How He Transformed America.]

When California’s reparations task force released its report recommending $1.2 million in total lifetime payments to every black person, it made headlines around the world.

California was not a slave state so what was the $1.2 million payout even based on? Even though the task force conveniently proposed limiting payments to the descendants of slaves (despite the lack of slaves in the state) it was mostly based on calculating the differences in life expectancy between black people and white people.

The meat of the 1,000 page report isn’t in the endless pages of virtue signaling, including a chapter on cultural appropriation, but the claim that “the difference in life expectancy between African Americans and white non-Hispanics in California can be interpreted as the cumulative effect of unequal treatment”. The report gets the amount of money from multiplying the value of a year of life, $127,226, by the 7.6 difference between the life expectancy of 71 years for black people and 78.6 years for white people to get $966,918 for most of the $1.2 million total.

There are any number of problems with this, but to start with the report has two different black life expectancy numbers. The reparations formula is based on a black life expectancy of 71. The opening of the report however states that “in 2021, the life expectancy of an average African American Californian was 75.1 years” while the reparations formula section describes  “an African American Californian at the average life expectancy of 71 years of age”. Which is it?

Black life expectancy in California fell from 74.8 to 71 between 2019 and 2021 by some metrics, but the report uses two different numbers to show just how unreliable and selective it is.

Something else also changed during the pandemic. In 2019, Latinos had a longer life expectancy than white people. That number fell during the pandemic so that white people are now slightly ahead. Asians however are still in first place and far ahead of any other race.

The reparations task force was aware of these numbers, that’s why the report specifies “white non-Hispanics” and refuses to include any broader life expectancy context for other races .

In 2019, white people were in 3rd place in life expectancy behind Latinos and Asians, but ahead of blacks. Those numbers not only demolish the case for racial reparations based on life expectancy, but the entire underlying premise that lower life expectancy is evidence of systemic racism. If we go by the overall life expectancy numbers, before the pandemic skewed them, then white people in California are also an oppressed group alongside black people.

And white people should also receive reparations payments.

The same numbers and racial theories behind the task force’s reparations payments when applied to all the races in the state, not just the black and white ones in the report, appear to show that Asians run everything and oppress other races so severely that they die earlier.

That’s obvious nonsense. But so is the report.

The report points to a current 7 year gap between black and white life expectancy, but there is a nearly 6 year life expectancy gap between white and Asian life expectancy.

Should Asians and Latinos be forced to pay reparations to white people?

Life expectancy does not actually correlate with race, it does however correlate with income. A UCLA study found that “the gap in life expectancies between those living in the highest- and lowest-income census tracts increased, from a difference of about 11.5 years before the pandemic to more than 15 years in 2021.”

The wealthiest areas in California have a life expectancy of 86 years while the poorest have a life expectancy of 71 years. Those 71 years were seized on by the task force as evidence of racism, but the problem is that there are far more whites, Hispanics and even Asians living in the poorest areas than black people. The difference with black people is not that they are the only ones who are poor, but that there are fewer black people in the upper middle and wealthy classes to balance out the averages the way that it works among whites and Asians.

White people were in third place and are now in second place when it comes to life expectancy because there are still many poor white people in California. That’s odd if white people have built some sort of imaginary systemic racism machine to oppress people based solely on race.

According to the reparations task force, black life expectancy was reduced by everything from living near “toxic industries” to “food deserts” but there are plenty of poor white people living in industrial areas like the Inland Empire which is rated as having the worst air in California.

California’s poor population includes 1,176,700 white people, 2,340,600 Latinos, 600,800 Asians and only 379,200 black people. Blacks make up the smallest percentage of the poor of any race, they are also however, as a race, disproportionately likely to be poor. That’s the statistical sleight of hand on which the task force’s reparations numbers depend.

Reparations is a hoax based on bad math and an even worse media that could be counted on not to ask even the most basic questions when a politically correct agenda is on the table.

Not only isn’t California oppressive toward black people, but it has the 11th lowest poverty rate for black people in the country. Compare that to the 14th lowest poverty rate for Latinos and the 22nd highest poverty rate for whites. Black people are not disadvantaged in California.

White people however are.

California’s poverty rate for white people is within 1% of South Carolina, and 2% of Tennessee and Mississippi.

The same metrics as those in the task force report could be used to argue for reparations payments to white people.

California’s proposed reparations have nothing to do with slavery. Even as the task force denies up and down that the proposed payments are welfare, that’s exactly what they are. They’re payments based on social welfare statistics using numbers manipulated to favor one race.

Race-based welfare, like most forms of affirmative action, is illegal. Calling these payments reparations is a tricky way to limit proposed welfare payments to members of one race.

The 1,000 page report spends most of its time trying to distract everyone from what the reparations payments really are and what they’re based on.

The report’s task force members are mostly black, but the writers, editors and contributors are mostly white, Indian, Asian, Jewish, and Latino. The report’s lead editors, Xiyun Yang, a Chinese deputy attorney general, Robin Goldfaden, a Jewish former ACLU lawyer, and Anthony Seferian, an Armenian deputy attorney general, are diverse, but not one of them is black. Most of the actual work on the report was done by lawyers with last names like Chuang, Singh, Kaplan, Ghazzawi, McCarthy and Martinez.

What the media passed off as the work of a black group was actually produced by progressive prosecutors looking for a political leg up in California’s identity politics establishment. The state has been burdened with massive proposed race-based payments that are illegal and would bankrupt the state by a bunch of non-black aspiring politicians looking to boost their resumes.

The task force report is based on a lie about the state of black people in California. It was assembled by the usual political interests who run the state rather than black organizations.

While some black people are anticipating major checks every month, the reparations money is likely to mostly go into the social welfare system in the form of grants to community groups. Slavery will be used as a pretext for diverting even more taxpayer money to leftist political organizations whose real business isn’t social welfare, but ballot harvesting and voter turnout.

That’s why the task force was really convened and why a mostly non-black team put it together. Reparations, like all forms of social welfare, are just leverage for boosting black voter turnout.

It would not be the first time that distorted statistics were used to justify massive social welfare spending that made the problem worse, but provided a political advantage to one party. Most of California’s social crises, including the homeless problem, follow that same pattern. The original party of slavery has just figured out another means of turning out voting labor on its plantation.

Nolte: Democrat-Run San Francisco Loses Nordstrom After 35 Years

Shoppers walk near an entrance to a Nordstrom store at a shopping mall in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2021. Nordstrom says it's acquiring a minority interest in four fashion brands owned by a British company called Asos as the department store aims to reach out to younger customers. The …

Nordstrom used a lot of cryptic gobbledy-gook to explain its decision to abandon Democrat-run San Francisco after 35 years, but we all know why. Due to left-wing policies involving crime and the homeless, the once-storied City by the Bay is in a Death Spiral.

When Nordstrom announced in May it was closing, a spokesman said that the “dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully.”

Lol.

This is no simple storefront, either. This Nordstrom is/was a 312,000 square foot, five-story department store, an anchor store in the Westfield shopping mall.

And now that Nordstrom is leaving, the people who run the mall are also walking away. They also offered some cryptic gobbledy-gook about the “challenging operating conditions in downtown San Francisco, which have led to declines in sales, occupancy and foot traffic.”

A sad but inevitable tale when you vote for Big City Democrats:

Once a bustling retail center in the heart of the city, the San Francisco Centre has taken a significant hit in the past few years. Total sales have fallen from $455 million in 2019 to $298 million in 2022, and foot traffic has plunged from 9.7 million visits in 2019 to 5.6 million in 2022, according to Westfield.

Westfield’s exit marks another significant setback for San Francisco, which saw its economy hit hard by the pandemic as many Silicon Valley companies allowed flexible work-from-home policies, resulting in many white-collar workers filtering out of the city. Three years later, corporate America has yet to return in the same numbers: Office vacancies in San Francisco have reached a 30-year high.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You lock down your city for no scientific reason.

You refuse to punish criminals.

You demoralize the police into inaction.

You basically decriminalize shoplifting by making any theft under $1,000 a misdemeanor.

Oh, let me look into my crystal ball to see how this turns out…

People will not shop where they don’t feel safe. I saw this happen in Milwaukee. Northridge was a gorgeous mall, a 975,000 square foot utopia, a place to meet friends, grab a bite to eat, see a movie… But in the mid to late eighties, a criminal element moved in, and the Democrat-run city refused to do anything about it. We stopped going. So did everyone else. Now it’s vacant.

Don’t you dare blame e-commerce for Nordstrom’s collapse. This “bustling retail center” made nearly a half-billion dollars in 2019 when there was just as much e-commerce competition as today.

America proved again and again in the 1990s that urban decay and decline are not only avoidable they are reversible. Urban decay was a given in the 60s and 70s. Then the New Democrat came along, guys like Bill Clinton, who said we Democrats must be tough on crime. Everything changed. Hell, in New York City, people voted for a Republican mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who turned the city into a jewel.

After less than a decade of Democrat rule, it’s a dump again.

You don’t need Charles Bronson out there patrolling the streets. All you need are zero-tolerance policies for crime, vagrancy, trespassing, and squatting. That’s it. That’s all it takes. But Democrats refuse to do this because Democrats want to chase all the decent people out of their cities and states, knowing it will forever cement their hold on power. They live like powerful kings, while the morons who vote for them live like serfs.

This is all a choice, and it’s a choice made by the citizens of these doomed cities who choose to vote for Democrats.

They are getting what they voted for, and no one should pity them.

'Catch And Release': Suspect in Viral LA Flash Mob Robbery Was Released on Cashless Bail One Day Before Heist

Soros-backed prosecutor George Gascón has called cash bail 'unjust' and 'unsafe'

George Gascón (Getty Images)
August 30, 2023

A Los Angeles woman accused of participating in a viral flash mob robbery was released on cashless bail just one day before the heist, court records show, reflecting the city's struggle to fight crime under liberal prosecutor George Gascón.

Los Angeles police last week arrested Ziona Janea Famoso for her role in a viral August 12 smash-and-grab robbery at a Nordstrom department store, where dozens of masked thieves destroyed displays and left with hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen goods. If not for the city's cashless bail policy, however, Famoso may not have participated. Just days before the heist, on August 8, Famoso was arrested and charged with felony theft after she allegedly took part in two other organized retail robberies, court filings reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon show. But Famoso was released on her own recognizance on August 11, according to the filings, allowing her to ransack the Nordstrom store one day later.

The revelation comes as Los Angeles experiences a surge in organized retail crime under George Soros-backed prosecutor Gascón, who campaigned as a liberal reformer working to "dramatically change" what he called a failed "tough-on-crime approach." Gascón in 2020 announced an end to cash bail on his first day in office, calling the practice "unjust" and "unsafe." While Gascón walked back that policy last year, a Los Angeles judge in May reinstated cashless bail in the city, arguing that a "wealth-based detention system" is unconstitutional.

Retail thefts soared in Los Angeles following the decision, a trend that law enforcement officials blame on the city's soft-on-crime reforms.

"It's 100 percent 'catch and release,'" said Los Angeles County deputy district attorney Eric Siddall, who is running to replace Gascón in 2024. "That's basically going to be the policy of Los Angeles County for lower-level felonies and most misdemeanors. You do a smash-and-grab, you're going to be released in time to do a second one on the same day."

Gascón is one of several left-wing prosecutors who have received substantial campaign support from liberal billionaire Soros, who contributed $2 million to Gascón's 2020 campaign. Gascón has vowed to run for a second term next year, though criticism from fellow Democrats over the recent spike in retail robberies could deter his reelection bid, with past supporters saying Gascón's policies turned Los Angeles into a "zombie town."

"These criminals are not getting prosecuted and they know it," one former supporter told the New York Post. "It's off the rails."

Famoso is not the only Nordstrom heist suspect with a long rap sheet. Three other defendants in the case have prior felony arrests, records show, and all three have been released on cashless bail in the past. This time around, however, Famoso will not be able to walk the Los Angeles streets for free following her latest arrest. California attorney general Rob Bonta (D.) on Friday charged Famoso with a slew of felonies and set her bail at $1 million. Gascón's office told the Free Beacon it was not "presented" Famoso's case and said Bonta is "well situated" to prosecute the retail thieves.

In addition to Los Angeles's no-bail policy, experts say the city has struggled to combat retail and property crime thanks to Proposition 47, a 2014 state ballot measure that reduced penalties for certain theft crimes. Under the measure, which Gascón co-authored, a thief who steals less than $950 worth of property is charged with a misdemeanor, not a felony. For Independent Institute senior fellow Lawrence McQuillan, the policy must end should California want to fight property crime.

"Property crimes have true victims, and true victims deserve true justice," McQuillan told the Free Beacon.

LOS ANGELES, California — Two massive brawls were reported on Sunday at malls in California, including one at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance in L.A., and one at the Bay Street Mall in Emeryville, near Oakland.

The Los Angeles Times reported:

Police from multiple agencies swarmed the Del Amo Fashion Center on Sunday afternoon after a brawl among juveniles, with possible gunfire, drew a massive crowd of underage onlookers.

Around 4 p.m., Torrance police received a call reporting “a large crowd of juveniles fighting among themselves” at the Carson Street shopping mall, said Torrance Police Sgt. Ron Salary.

Police also reported a large brawl among juveniles in the Bay Area city of Emeryville on Sunday afternoon. … 200 to 250 young people gathered at the mall, and several fights broke out near the courtyard. A gun was fired near Bay Street and Ohlone Way, though no one was reported hurt. Near Elm Street, a juvenile was stabbed, and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

The mass brawls are the latest flash mob phenomenon to terrorize retail in the California area. Mass looting events, which began in the Black Lives Matter riots and launched with fervor in November 2021 in San Francisco’s Union Square, have sparked the formation of a special task force in L.A., with help from the California Highway Patrol.

At least 17 people were shot, one of them fatally, Friday into mid-afternoon Saturday in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago.

ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Timereported the one shooting fatality occurred around 4 a.m. “in the 2500 block of West Monroe Street.” Police responded to calls about the shooting and found a man who had been shot “in the chin and ankle.”

He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Breitbart News noted nearly 40 were shot last weekend in Chicago, seven of them fatally, and at least 23 were shot in Chicago during the weekend prior.

The Sun-Times pointed out that 392 people were killed in Chicago January 1, 2023, through August 25, 2023.

WHILE BLACKS ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES LOOTING STORES THE VIDEOS ACROSS THE COUNTRY SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Corporations see increased sales but plummeting profits thanks to wide scale retail theft

Retailers, including Dick’s, Target, Macy’s, Nordstrum, and Ulta, are reporting that retail theft is significantly hurting their profits. Of course this contributes to the cost-of-living crisis, because everyone has to cover the costs, which disproportionately harms the poor and middle classes. From CBS News:

Dick’s Sporting Goods warned Tuesday that retail theft is damaging its business and would lead to lower annual profits.

The sporting goods and athletic clothing seller reported second-quarter results Tuesday morning that included a 23% drop in profit, despite sales that rose 3.6% in the period. Shares of Dick's (DKS) plunged nearly 24% Tuesday.

The company blamed shrink, the industry term for theft and damaged inventory, for its surprisingly poor earnings.

CNN accurately reported the problem but somehow can’t seem to spot the cause of the problem. The mayor of Los Angeles says the problem is that the conservative media talks too much about the problem; I wonder why she hasn’t solved the problem. Here’s a humorous excerpt from RedState:

Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass attempted to blame ‘conservative media’ for painting a picture of rampant crime when the statistics tell a tale of … rampant crime. Similarly, in reporting on Dick’s Sporting Goods’ statement regarding theft, CNN entered into a string of curious contradictions trying to downplay the matter.

Could it be that the reason retail theft is so high is that pro-crime politicians and prosecutors (Democrats) have decided that theft under a certain dollar amount should not be prosecuted? In California, that number is $950. Does anyone think that the thieves and the stores are standing by with a calculator to check the amount? Does anyone think that as soon as thieves go over $950, pro-crime prosecutors will suddenly become anti-crime?

It seems that the media and other Democrats have a great deal of difficulty connecting the dots on basically everything, so allow me to explain.

One of the reasons businesses are having a tough time filling minimum wage jobs is probably because the portion of the population that would ordinarily staff minimum wage jobs have, in part, turned to risk-free crime because they can make a lot more money reselling their stolen goods than working.

Another reason for the lack of workers is that Democrats don’t think mentally and physically able people should have to work for their generous government benefits. How many thieves are collecting food, health care, and housing benefits because they report no income?

The reason so many illegals are coming across the border is because the Biden administration is not enforcing immigration laws, and lawless sanctuary cities and states said these invaders would be welcome.

The reason cartels are getting so rich off human smuggling, sex trafficking, and drug smuggling is because the Biden administration has been so lax in enforcement … and promoted the criminality.

The reason so many crimes, including murder, are committed by people with long criminal records is because DAs allow a revolving door.

The reason kids are falling so far behind in English and reading is because teachers are spending so much time indoctrinating children with leftist ideas instead of teaching the basics.

The reason government entities throughout the country are broke is because they spend too much, not because they tax too little.

The reason people in businesses are moving from big government, high tax, massive regulation blue states to smaller government, lower tax, fewer regulations red states is self-explanatory.

The reason that the Earth has warmed a little over the last 160 years is because the Earth always warms cyclically and naturally after a little ice age ends.

The reason we had a cooling period from 1940–1975 is because there is no relationship between temperatures and meat, milk, oil, or coal consumption.

Could it be that the reason the public doesn’t trust the media and the (in)Justice Department is because they have seen how they ignored crimes by Hillary and Joe while endlessly targeting President Trump with lies about Russian collusion and for challenging a very questionable election?

Here’s a hypothetical: Let’s say there is a powerful politician who has access to a government jet and he uses that jet to ferry his son, who has no expertise or experience, around the world gathering kickbacks from several foreign countries. Let’s say the son forms several shell corporations to launder the kickbacks and disburse millions to members of the politician’s family. Let’s say the son has a joint checking account with his dad and pays his dad’s bills.

Is the dad benefitting?

Are media outlets, (in)Justice Department officials, and other Democrats so stupid that they don’t understand that the patriarch of this corrupt family has benefited greatly from the kickbacks? Or do they just not care about corruption by powerful Democrats? It can only be one or the other.

Fund the Police: LA Votes To Put $1 Billion Toward Cops' Pay

Vote comes as crime soars and LAPD retention rates plummet

August 25, 2023

Amid plummeting retention rates and soaring crime, the Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday voted to allocate nearly $1 billion for cops' pay to stop them from quitting—just three years after it slashed the police budget by up to $150 million.

The council, made up of 14 Democrats and one independent, agreed to boost police recruits’ pay by 13 percent, while adding annual "retention" pay increases to keep them on the force. The pay rise will cost the city $994 million over the next four years, according to a representative for the police union.

The 12-3 vote is a pendulum swing for the progressive city that only three years prior voted to "defund" the police. In June 2020, the city council voted to slash the law enforcement budget by up to $150 million in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Six months after these budget cuts, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that officers would no longer respond to car crashes and would shrink its robbery and homicide and gang and narcotics divisions. The department also stopped staffing its station desks on weekends.

Since then, crime is up and the police force has dipped below 9,000 officers for the first time in more than 20 years.

Los Angeles, like other blue cities, has reeled under a crime surge since 2020. While violent crime dipped in 2023 compared to the year before, murders and assaults are up. The county’s progressive district attorney George Gascón is sitting on a 10,000-case backlog.

In May, the county reinstated a zero-bail policy for anyone charged with nonviolent felonies, leading the rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson to declare that "L.A. is finished." Since then, "flash mobs" of dozens of young people have taken to ransacking luxury stores all over Los Angeles County, overwhelming staff through brute force and making off with merchandise worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. In response, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) has deployed more California Highway Patrol to Los Angeles as backup.

Mass Looting Flash Mobs Spread in Southern California, Beyond L.A.

Mass looting events have been reported outside Los Angeles as the phenomenon spreads throughout Southern California, defying efforts by local officials to deter the flash mobs that carry out the daytime heists in retail stores.

The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday:

Video surveillance and reports released in the last two days by police displayed the ease and speed of flash mob thefts at retail stores in Riverside and Arcadia, the latest crimes in a spate that has struck businesses throughout the region over the last few weeks.

Riverside police released security footage Tuesday from two burglaries committed about a month apart at the Nordstrom Rack at Canyon Springs Marketplace in Riverside.

Five people broke into the Macy’s at the Shops at Santa Anita in Arcadia on Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report.

The phenomenon of mass looting has appeared nationwide in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter riots, which also involved looting. City police departments were cut or ordered to pull back, leaving criminals with more leeway.

The phenomenon began in earnest in November 2021, with mass looting in high-end shops in San Francisco. It has since spread to Los Angeles and elsewhere. Several recent looting events in L.A. prompted Mayor Karen Bass to form a task force, with help from Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). However, the thefts appear to have spread elsewhere.

Karen Bass Launches Task Force to Fight Retail Theft; Newsom Triples Highway Patrol in L.A.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass launched a new task force Thursday to fight mass looting and retail theft in the region, and Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he would triple the number of California Highway Patrol officers in the city to assist the effort.

Bass announced the task force at a press conference Thursday morning, days after a mass looting event in the Westfield Topanga mall made national news.

There have been several such events in the last few years, thought to be connected to organized crime.

The mayor elaborated in a press release:

“What we’ve seen over just the past week in the City of Los Angeles and in surrounding regions is unacceptable, which is why today we are here announcing action,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “These are not victimless crimes – especially in the case where Angelenos were attacked – through force or fear – as they did their jobs or ran errands. No Angeleno should feel like it’s unsafe to go shopping and no Angelenos should feel like it’s unsafe to open a business in Los Angeles or Los Angeles County. This task force will aggressively investigate these incidents and hold individuals that are responsible for these crimes fully accountable.”

Newsom announced that he would triple the number of California Highway Patrol officers in the city to assist Bass’s task force.

His office added a boast: “Under Governor Newsom’s leadership, public safety funding is at an all-time high in California.”

50 Cent Slams Los Angeles over Flash Mob Robberies: ‘LA Is Finished’

Rapper 50 Cent slammed Los Angeles following a recent flash mob robbery of a Nordstrom store in the Democrat-controlled city, proclaiming, “LA is finished,” and advising store owners to “lock the doors.”

“I told you LA was finished,” 50 Cent wrote in an Instagram caption, sharing a screenshot of a headline, which read, “Flash Mob Hits Another High-End Store in L.A. County, Steal Estimated $100K in Merchandise.”

“They are gonna have to lock the doors, appointment only,” the rapper added in his caption.

50 Cent was reacting to a recent news headline about scores of thieves appearing to ransack a Nordstrom in Canoga Park.

This is not the first time 50 Cent has declared Los Angeles “finished.”

In July, the rapper shared the same sentiments after it was revealed that the Democrat-controlled city implemented a zero bail policy and non-violent criminals would no longer be detained in the city, writing on Instagram, “LA is finished watch how bad it gets out there”

In 2021, after blasting President Joe Biden’s tax plan, the rapper moved from New York to Houston.

“I Love NY, but i live in Houston now i’ll explain later,” 50 Cent wrote in a tweet, sharing a photo of himself outside the Houston Astrodome.

The rapper also included two screenshots about a true crime television series, “Confessions of a Crime Queen,” that he produced. “Green Light Gang. BOOM,” his tweet concluded.

While 50 Cent never clarified why he moved to Houston, the decision came a few months after he told his followers on social media to “Vote for Trump” in response to Biden’s tax plan.

“WHAT THE F***! (VOTE ForTRUMP),” the rapper posted on Instagram. “I’M OUT. F*** NEW YORK The KNICKS never win anyway.”

BEAT THE FUKING SHIT OUT OF THEM AND SEE IF THEY COME BACK

Bass has promised to hire more police — just a few years after then-Mayor Eric Garcetti promised to cut more than 10% of the police budget for redistribution to “communities of color” in the midst of the Black Lives Matter riots that shook the city.

Mass looting has been a phenomenon since the riots, and especially since mobs looted high-end stores in San Francisco’s Union Square in November 2021.

A mob of looters ransacked a Nordstrom location in the Westfield Topanga mall in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday afternoon, prompting Mayor Karen Bass to condemn the chaos.

Local news station KTLA reported:

Police said anywhere between 20-50 suspects are believed to be involved, although the exact number has not been confirmed.

The thieves were seen violently grabbing whatever merchandise they could carry, with many seen ripping the security devices attached to designer purses and luggage items. Store shelves and display racks were destroyed, knocked over and littered across the floor along with a ton of fallen merchandise.

At one point, a security guard who tried to intervene was attacked with a chemical spray, police said. It’s unclear what that person’s condition is.

Mayor Bass issued a statement on Saturday evening:

What happened today at the Nordstrom in the Topanga Mall is absolutely unacceptable. Those who committed these acts and acts like it in neighboring areas must be held accountable. The Los Angeles Police Department will continue to work to not only find those responsible for this incident but to prevent these attacks on retailers from happening in the future.

SN'T AMERICA SICK AND TIRED OF BLACK CRIME???

Police Investigate Sikh 7-Eleven Workers Who Resisted Robber

If your store is being robbed over and over again, the police can't help.

In a pro-crime system, committing crimes isn’t a crime, but resisting criminals is the only real crime.

The video of 7-Eleven Sikh workers standing up and fighting back against a criminal who was boldly looting the store even as they were being told that they should shut up and take it has gone viral.

And now the police are investigating the workers for stopping a criminal.

Here comes the investigation.

Stockton police said they are investigating the assault of a 7-Eleven robbery suspect by two workers and say the suspected thief is believed to have robbed the store two other times within the same 24-hour period.

Video of the July 29 assault has gained national attention. In the more than five-minute clip, a man can be seen emptying shelves of cigarettes and other products from the store’s shelves before the clerks step in to stop him. The clip shows one of the clerks pinning the man down while another beats the would-be thief with what appears to be a pole.

Stockton police said in an update Saturday that they were aware of two other reports of early morning robberies at the 7-Eleven location involving the same suspected thief, one on July 28 and another on July 29.

Police said that on July 28 at 3:41 a.m., a 7-Eleven worker reported the suspect going behind the counter and threatening to shoot the clerk if he intervened. The suspect then took several packs of cigarettes in a large garbage bag before fleeing.

On July 29 at 12:27 a.m., a 7-Eleven worker reported the suspect demanding money at the store while simulating that he had a handgun. When the worker didn’t comply, the suspect grabbed food items and put them in a garbage bag before leaving, police said.

At some point later in the morning, the man is believed to have returned to the store, police said. That’s when the beating captured in the viral video took place.

They said that after their investigation concludes, they will forward the findings to the San Joaquin County district attorney for review.

If your store is being robbed over and over again, the police can’t help, but if you stand up to the criminal, suddenly there’s an investigation. But when your store is being robbed over and over again, there’s no investigation.

Video shows suspects steal $300,000 worth of designer goods in 'flash mob burglary'

'Flash mob' burglarizes high-end store in California, steals $300,000 worth of merchandise

Updated

A high-end designer store in Glendale, California was looted by dozens of people in a flash mob burglary on Tuesday, Glendale Police said.

At least 30 suspects "flooded" the Yves Saint Laurent store in The Americana at Brand Tuesday afternoon and stole clothing and other merchandise before fleeing on foot and leaving the location in numerous vehicles, said police in a statement. An investigation into the incident is underway. The total loss is estimated to be approximately $300,000.

The Americana is a major indoor-outdoor hub in Glendale adjacent to Northeast and Downtown Los Angeles.

Video footage from the incident, captured by onlookers, shows dozens of masked individuals running out of the store with merchandise and other goods in their arms.

What is a 'flash mob' burglary?

"'Flash mob' burglaries involve a large, coordinated group of individuals simultaneously rushing into the store, overwhelming staff, and taking it over," explained the police, adding that suspects grab as much merchandise as they can before escaping in multiple vehicles.

“This type of criminal activity will not be tolerated in Glendale," said Glendale Police Chief Manuel Cid in a statement, promising that the department will "pursue all leads and utilize every available resource to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice."

Expect an elevated police presence in and around the downtown Glendale corridor, Cid added.

Caruso, the real estate company that owns The Americana at Brand is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for leads on the incident and suspects.

Glendale Mayor Dan Brotman also expressed concern over the event saying that “this coordinated crime challenges our values, but our determination to uphold safety and unity is resolute."

Anyone with information should contact the Glendale Police Department or the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous.

Retailers concerned over organized theft

Meanwhile, retailers like Target, Walmart, Dollar General and Home Depot have expressed concern and are sounding the alarm on retail theft in recent months. Missing inventory was discussed more this past quarter than any quarter on record, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Retailers have been increasingly concerned about a loss of profits because of shrinkage – an industry term that refers to the difference between the inventory a store has on its balance sheet and its actual inventory.

Target CEO Brian Cornell shared that shrinkage can be driven by multiple factors. The term includes everything from items lost or damaged items to theft by employees or visitors. He and other executives have sounded the alarm over a rise in organized retail theft in which thieves steal merchandise to resell for a profit, often online through sites like Amazon or eBay.

To combat such incidents, retailers are introducing strategies like shorter store hours, self-servicing locking cabinets or smart shopping carts. However, there is also a worry that such measures will impact customer service and hurt sales. Some retailers have also been pushing for stricter penalties for stealing to curb retail theft.

However, before any strong conclusions can be drawn about the impact of retail theft on profit, more needs to be learned by greater data gathering and analysis.

Police confirmed Wednesday that a group of at least nine men had looted a Gucci store Monday at the Westfield Century City mall in Los Angeles, one of the most popular and upscale shopping centers in the city.

Video footage emerged almost immediately:

Breitbart News reached out to the management of the mall for confirmation and comment, and received no response. However, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed the event on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Times reported:

The Gucci store at a mall in Century City was robbed Monday by a large group of thieves, in a grab-and-dash heist that was caught on video, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and video of the incident.

A group of at least nine men could be seen sprinting out of the store around 3:10 p.m. Monday in video posted to Twitter. The LAPD confirmed that there was a robbery at a store at Westfield Century City mall. It was not immediately clear if the men were armed or if anyone was injured.

Bystanders looked on and took video, while a lone security guard walked helplessly behind the men as they sprinted away, the video shows. A suited man who appeared to work for Gucci could be heard on the phone calling the police.

The Century City mall is in the heart of west Los Angeles, near the Fox studio lot and surrounded by office complexes housing Hollywood’s top agents and entertainment lawyers.

Mass looting events have been an increasing problem in many American cities, ever since the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020. In November 2021, a mob looted stores in San Francisco’s Union Square, reviving the national trend. A similar mob looted stores in L.A., but all of the perpetrators who were arrested were let go. Another mob looted a luxury store in Malibu last year.

Shoplifting is tax evasion

Pop quiz:  A progressive city institutes a 9.7% sales tax, how much tax revenue do they lose on shoplifted goods?

It's a good question, one that needs to be properly researched, answered, and thrown in the face of the tax and spend liberals.

When an item is shoplifted, the local taxing authority cannot collect sales tax on that item.  The stolen item also contributes to the stores shrinkage, making the company less profitable... And subject to smaller income tax the state can collect.

Most of the items stolen are resold.  Sometimes online, sometimes on the street in front of the store the item was stolen from.  No sales tax is collected on the sale of the stolen items.

Although the stolen items are sold at a significant discount, the profit margin for the thief is 100%.  Despite the huge profit margin, shoplifting rings probably don't file tax returns on the income made from the sale stolen merchandise. And yet another chance for tax collection is bypassed.

If the shoplifter is selling the item right outside the store it was stolen from (this is happening in Chicago and San Francisco), the government misses yet another taxing opportunity when the thief sells to someone who was on their way to buy the item legitimately.

When the store goes out of business because of shoplifting, the city loses property tax, all sales tax, and the state loses income tax from the corporation and from the laid off employees and managers.

When stores fire employees for reporting shoplifting, they help the shoplifter cheat the government even more by taking away income tax revenue in addition to the lost sales tax.

Retail theft is tax evasion.  Can governments that have huge unfunded pensions (like Illinois) really afford to ignore the loss of tax revenue from retail theft?

Refusal to prosecute retail theft is the equivalent of using tax dollars to fund organized retail theft gangs.  The big city liberals might as well be collecting money from working people and handing big bundles of cash to everyone who is in jail.

The government has 48,000 new, armed IRS agents, perhaps they should be out busting people who are evading taxes... Like shoplifters.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving: Chicago Man Charged in Years Long $6M Home Depot Scam

Tyler Clark (Chicago Police Department)
Chicago Police Department

Officials have charged a fourth suspect in a fraud scam that caused Home Depot stores in Chicago to lose a massive chunk of money.

In an article published Thursday, CWB Chicago said it reported in May the stores were defrauded by several individuals who racked up $900 credits over 6,000 times for one purchase a few years prior:

Officials said the scam began in March 2020 when someone purchased more than $6,000 from the home improvement chain’s 2570 North Elston location. Days later, someone returned to the store and said the purchase was for a tax-exempt church. A store employee accepted the tax-exempt documents and issued the representative a $900 gift card for the tax value.

Taxes on the purchase were $555, and that receipt was recycled for three years to make over 6,000 gift cards. Many of those cards had $900 on them.

“Cashiers scanned the receipt bar code from an accomplice’s phone each time, manually entered the tax exemption information, and then cut a gift card for the difference,” the report continued, noting some of the cashiers made several gift cards for the same purchase at one time, and some had a copy of the receipt saved on their phones to use.

He said the company was investing in more security guards, lighting, and additional lighting in parking lots, along with recording towers, in order to remedy the problem.

“And it’s not a place that many of us in retail thought we’d have to be,” he added. In December, an 83-year-old Home Depot worker in North Carolina died after reportedly being shoved by an alleged shoplifter, according to Breitbart News.

Gary Rasor, the victim, was allegedly assaulted at the store in Hillsborough when he tried to confront a man who was allegedly stealing pressure washers.

“Rasor suffered several fractured bones, and he was in the hospital for weeks and unable to walk. His condition worsened after he viewed footage of the incident for the first time, according to his wife,” the outlet said.

BLACKS APPEAR TO BE THE MOST VIOLENT SUBCULTURE IN THE WORLD

Witnesses described the  suspect as a black man wearing a gold chain and a navy shirt, the Daily Mail said. Officers called a Level One Mobilization and have a person in custody, but did not confirm the suspect’s description. New York City Councilmember Erik Bottcher said  the man had “mental health issues.”

A man is in custody after stabbing two people with scissors outside of Magnolia’s Bakery in West Village in New York City on Wednesday morning.

A 911 call was made at 9:58 a.m. First responders arrived on the scene quickly to treat the victims, Citizen reported.  The man allegedly slashed a 24-year-old man in the arm and another man in the neck, the Daily Mail reported. Both are in stable condition.

Eli Klein, 45, witnessed the attack while he was walking with his wife and infant daughter on the sidewalk. They ran away as soon as the incident broke out.

“It happened so close – it was 10, 15ft away – and we were on the same side of the sidewalk,” Klein told the DailyMail. “Normally I would stop to help the guy or take a picture of the suspect and give it to the police but in this instance, I had my baby with me, we just ran, we didn’t wait.”

Owner of a nearby art gallery and a lifelong resident of New York, Klein said crime has become a greater worry.

“We’ve seen a steady decrease since whenever it was, decades ago, but unfortunately the decrease has stopped,” Klein told the DailyMail. “It’s not like it was in the 1980s or the early 90s, when it was much worse than this, but you want things to keep getting better and the improvement, the overall trajectory, has stopped.”

Crime statistics from November 2022 revealed just how prevalent violence and lawlessness have become in the big apple.

Breitbart News’s Amy Furr reported:

Crime in New York City increased over the past year but New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) claims data did not show bail reform as being the problem.

The New York City Police Department’s (NYPD) recent crime statistics show that year to date, rape was up 10.9 percent, robbery up 32.4 percent, burglary up 29.1 percent, and grand larceny up 38.5 percent.

During an interview Friday on CNN, Hochul asserted that “the data is not showing” that bail reform is causing the surge in crime, and “There are individual cases, but compared to pre-pandemic and when this was passed, I don’t think there’s a real disparity.”

The New York Bail Reform law went into effect on January 1, 2020.

Researchers from John Jay College of Criminal Justice found that more than 72 percent of violent crime suspects freed without bail were rearrested, compared to fewer than 62 percent who were rearrested before the bail reform law, Breitbart News reported.

Shops Create ‘Booby Traps’ to Ward off Drug Addicts in Democrat-Run Philadelphia

Businesses in Democrat-run Philadelphia are using unusual methods to protect their stores from drug addicts, a recovered addict told Fox News.

“The businesses don’t last long. When they are put in the community, the community tends to tear them down. It’s not a place for anything to thrive,” Frank Rodriguez said, according to the article published Wednesday.

The city’s Kensington area is full of drug users, which is deeply unsettling for the families living there.

In May, Breitbart News reported the “tranq” drug was taking a heavy toll on Philadelphians who have been spotted slumped over and passed out on the sidewalks.

“The city has been grappling with a rise in addicts using the drug called Xylazine, which is also referred to as ‘tranq,'” the outlet said, noting it has been linked to overdose deaths.

Some officials call it the “zombie drug” because it can eat a person’s flesh. Pix 11 News reported in May that Xylazine is an animal tranquilizer that “knocks out horses,” but it is now “knocking out humans and sometimes killing them.”

Suppliers have reportedly laced the fentanyl and heroin supply with it due to its low price and availability.

Rodriguez used to deal and use drugs in the area but got sober and left that life behind him. Now he says the increase in drug use and criminal activity has some businesses trying hard to stay open.

“They have to set up these crazy little hacks and booby traps just to keep people off of their stoops. There are businesses that set up sprinkler systems, so they can just be inside and hit a button, and the sprinkler system goes off,” he told Fox.

The outlet’s Jesse Watters recently blamed Beijing and Mexico for the fentanyl and tranq crisis in Philadelphia as video footage shows Rodriguez walking among the drug addicts.

He said law enforcement and city officials do not uphold any rules regarding the crisis in the area.

“You see the chaos that’s going around. You’re gonna see people, blood running down their arm, needles in their neck, needle in their arm, pipe in their mouth. Everything goes out here,” he said:

“You’re literally dealing with chemical warfare; that’s what’s happening,” he explained, adding it was only getting worse.

Watters said, “China is sending us the fentanyl; the Mexicans are trafficking it here,” then said President Joe Biden (D) is doing “absolutely nothing about it.”

Move to Recall 'Soft-on-Crime' Northern California County District Attorney Underway

Paperwork was filed on Aug. 15 to recall Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price because of overwhelming crime in the area and a perceived lack of support from her office, according to petitioners.

“We are doing this on behalf of people in the county, and we just want to keep people safe. Especially seniors, children and families,” Carl Chan, a principal on the recall committee and president of the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement (pdf) announcing the petition. “They deserve protection. ... By not sending a strong message by charging and prosecuting criminals, we are almost saying it’s okay to commit crime because there are no serious consequences.”

The group behind the recall is Save Alameda for Everyone, also known as SAFE, a coalition of local businesses, residents, victims, and advocates.

“We are unified in our belief that recalling Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is not only necessary, but critical to keeping our community safe and restoring public safety in our neighborhoods,” the group wrote on its website. “DA Price is failing us in her responsibility to enforce the law, prosecute criminals and keep violent offenders off our streets.”

Skyrocketing crime and a general sense of unease due to carjackings, home invasions, property crimes such as car break-ins and retail theft, and drug use are driving the desire to replace the district attorney, according to petitioners.

According to Oakland Police Department statistics, violent crime is up by 15 percent and burglaries by nearly 40 percent compared to last year. Homicides are up by 80 percent compared to 2019, authorities report.

Some, including those behind the recall, perceive the prosecutor’s office as too soft on crime and unwilling to take the steps needed to keep the community safe, according to the statement. Utility companies now have to hire security guards to protect crews working in the city.

Recent allegations of nepotism stoked angst among residents after the district attorney’s office hired Ms. Price’s boyfriend, Antwon Cloird, for a six-figure salary as a “senior program specialist” earlier this year. News reports indicate that Mr. Cloird was involved in an FBI investigation in 2015 related to extortion in the city of Richmond in the San Francisco Bay area.

Court documents from a lawsuit filed in 2016 in Contra Costa County allege that Mr. Cloird was involved in cash payments flowing from cannabis dispensaries to the Richmond City Council in a pay-to-play scheme, but it's unclear what became of the investigations.

Mr. Cloird didn't respond to requests for comment by press time.

“Failed leadership, including the movement to defund the police, our District Attorney’s unwillingness to charge and prosecute people who murder and commit life threatening serious crimes, and the proliferation of anti-police rhetoric have created a heyday for Oakland criminals,” Cynthia Adams, president of the Oakland branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and Bishop Bob Jackson, senior pastor at Acts of Gospel Church of Oakland, said in a joint statement in July.

Talk of a potential recall began brewing earlier this year, and with organized efforts and 100 verified signatures supporting it, the recall petition was submitted to the county, with Ms. Price given until Aug. 22 to respond.

Once she responds, the group will have 160 days to collect more than 90,000 signatures to satisfy requirements that at least 10 percent of registered voters sign the petition to proceed, as per guidelines (pdf) set by the California secretary of state. If enough signatures are ultimately verified by county election officials, a recall vote will be announced to potentially replace the district attorney.

In response to the intent to recall being filed, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters released a statement on Aug. 16 saying that such a move is unprecedented.

“The [Registrar of Voters] has not been required to conduct a recall election targeting a County of Alameda official for at least the past 30 years, if ever,” Donna Ziegler, county counsel for Alameda, wrote in the statement. “The [Registrar of Voters] is currently analyzing the relationship between the recall provisions set forth in the county charter and those found in state law to determine the path and timeline for conducting a recall of a county officer.”

Ms. Price didn't respond to The Epoch Times’ requests for comment.

While the registrar is checking its rulebook and preparing to handle the recall petition, some say that something needs to change, as lives are at risk and people are fearful while in their communities and at home.

“As an advocate for families who have lost loved ones, what I see now is something I have never seen before. There is a true disconnect on who is the victim,” said Brenda Grisham, another proponent on the committee to recall and mother of Christopher LaVell Jones—who was gunned down in front of his family home in Oakland in what police believe was a mistaken ambush on Dec. 31, 2010. “We all want a fair justice system, and that includes holding people accountable for their crimes.”

In Los Angeles County, another recall effort is underway targeting District Attorney George Gascón and is currently entangled in a lawsuit contesting the signature verification outcome. The lawsuit was filed on July 7 by recall proponents alleging that the Los Angeles County Registrar incorrectly or unlawfully invalidated some petition signatures.

Mr. Gascón, elected at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2020, is known for his progressive reforms of the county’s criminal justice system through what critics have called “soft-on-crime” policies, including eliminating sentencing enhancements for firearms, ending the death penalty, removing cash bail for misdemeanors or nonviolent felony crimes, and not charging minors as adults.

A recent precedent of successful recall was the case of San Francisco County District Attorney Chesa Boudin—who was elected in 2019 and recalled in 2022. Angered by rising crime and limited prosecutions, 55 percent of voters chose to remove Mr. Boudin from office.

THE DUMPSTER CITY

SF scamp organizes the first-ever

‘Downtown Doom Loop Walking Tour’ to

highlight the ‘urban decay’

of certain policies

“You’ve read the headlines, you’ve seen the Tweets, now get close and personal to the Doom and Squalor of downtown San Francisco!”

That’s the advertising hook for the city’s newest walking tour, and it worked — tickets sold out, weeks in advance. The guide remains anonymous, and the big reveal is set for next Saturday, but what we do know is that he is a San Francisco native, a “political junkie,” and a “card-carrying City Commissioner” and he’s ready to pull back the curtain on the “policy choices that made America’s wealthiest city the nation’s innovative leader” in every civic crisis imaginable.

Also from the promotional teaser:

How can a city with a $14.6 billion annual budget be a model of urban decay? How can it spend $776.8 million per year on police and have no rule of law to show for it? How can it spend $690 million on homeless services and receive an official United Nations condemnation for its treatment of the homeless (“cruel and inhuman”; “violation of multiple human rights”)?

The tour is an easy 1.5 miles, and participants will have a chance to see the “open-air drug markets, the abandoned tech offices, the outposts of the non-profit industrial complex, and the deserted department stores.”

We might be tempted to immediately assume the mystery tour guide is a conservative, given his sardonic stunt over the undeniable causality between leftism and societal rot, but I’m not so sure. In fact, if I had to guess, I’d wager that he is actually a leftist himself (a circumstantial speculation, of course).

First off, this man is evidently well-versed in the “rules” of Saul Alinsky, given his strategy of ridicule, a tool that Alinksy touted as “man’s most potent weapon.”

Secondly, he writes this:

You will find no better expert. Your guide is an urban policy professional… overseeing a municipal department with an annual budget over $500m…. He has spent hundreds of hours on both sides of the government dais, shouting into the opposite abyss. (This event is the result of his own mental-health crisis.)

When he says he’s an “urban policy professional” I can only assume he has some sort of academic background in the field; not typically (if ever) a route taken by principled conservatives. It’s also safe to assume that this man has been in government a long time because a) it would be unusual for a wet-behind-the-ears college graduate to receive commissioned appointment with a half a billion dollar budget; and b) how could anyone drive themselves to the point of a “mental-health crisis” over government being hopelessly incapable of solving social issues? The government’s literal modus operandi is to leave everything it touches worse off — more intervention always equals more problems — every conservative knows that!

The man in question almost reminds me of the highly-distinguished Thomas Sowell, who at one point was a left-wing Marxist. As a young man, he saw gaping wealth disparities in Manhattan, and when he stumbled upon the writings of Karl Marx, Sowell said they “seemed to make sense.”

But then… Sowell took a summer internship at the federal Department of Labor, and very quickly learned that “the government is not simply the personification of the general will” but rather “the government institutions have their own institutional interests.” Soon thereafter, Sowell abandoned Marxism and became a limited government conservative; his conversion story can be watched here:

Anyone who can work in government, see the problems with government firsthand, then “spend hundreds of hours” on a fool’s errand like trying to get the government to be more efficient can only be a leftist.

In a significant move toward restoring law and order in Florida, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has taken decisive action by suspending Monique Worrell, the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit.

Worrell, who had received backing from a group associated with radical activist Democrat billionaire George Soros, has been exposed for her dereliction of duty and sheer incompetence in handling criminal cases. This suspension comes as a vital step in safeguarding our communities from dangerous offenders.

Wednesday morning, Gov. DeSantis signed an executive order suspending State Attorney Worrell, citing her neglect of duty as the main reason for her removal. The move is a step to protect the law-abiding citizens of Florida and ensure that justice is served, by ending Worrell’s failure to prosecute a violent criminal who later commits heinous acts.

The governor’s executive order lists several instances of Worrell’s “neglect of duty and incompetence,” including:

·         “[T]he administration of criminal justice in the Ninth Circuit has been so clearly and fundamentally derelict as to constitute both neglect of duty and incompetence.”

·         “[Worrell] authorized or allowed practices or policies that have systematically permitted violent offenders, drug traffickers, serious-juvenile offenders, and pedophiles to evade incarceration when otherwise warranted under Florida law.”

·         “These practices or policies include non-filing or dropping meritorious charges or declining to allege otherwise provable facts to avoid triggering applicable lengthy sentences, minimum mandatory sentences.”

·         “[Worrell] authorized or allowed practices or policies whereby her assistant state attorneys are generally prevented or discouraged from obtaining meritorious minimum mandatory sentences for gun crimes.”

One of the reasons for Worrell's suspension is her abuse of prosecutorial discretion. While prosecutors do have the ability to choose which cases to pursue, Worrell has taken it to an extreme by effectively nullifying laws in the state, such as restrictions on abortion and provision of harmful gender-change services to minors.

Worrell's policies and practices have directly contributed to a more dangerous environment, endangering the lives and well-being of Floridians, DeSantis said.

The governor's office has presented various instances that exemplify the egregious outcomes resulting from Worrell's misguided policies. These examples expose a system that has failed to protect the innocent and prioritize the well-being of their communities. It is clear that action had to be taken to rectify this alarming situation.

Announcing the suspension, Gov. DeSantis highlighted a specific case involving Daton Viel, who shot two Orlando officers while out on bond for a child rape case. Worrell's failure to keep this dangerous individual off the streets demonstrates her incompetence and inability to fulfill her duties as a state attorney, which have put innocent lives at risk.

Worrell also failed to prosecute the suspect who tragically shot and killed a Spectrum News reporter, a mother, and a little girl in Orlando earlier this year.

The suspension of State Attorney Monique Worrell is an example of Gov. DeSantis' commitment to upholding conservative values and ensuring that Florida’s elected officials carry out their duties with integrity and adherence to the law.

Worrell’s suspension is part of Gov. DeSantis's ongoing efforts to address the influence of woke prosecutors tied to George Soros who have who had demonstrated a lack of competence and a disregard for the law. Last year, DeSantis removed Andrew Warren, the Tampa area state attorney, for similar reasons. Warren, like Worrell, signaled his opposition to prosecuting abortion providers and those seeking abortions.

Displaying a blatant disregard for the rights of the unborn, Warren refused to enforce a 15-week abortion ban. Both she and Warren have condemned Florida’s law protecting minors from gender-altering procedures.

The governor's decision to suspend Worrell has garnered support from law enforcement officials such as Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey. Their presence at the announcement reflects the seriousness of the situation and the need for decisive action. While they may not work in Worrell's district, their endorsement highlights the importance of maintaining law and order across the state.

Moving forward, Judge Andrew Bain will be taking over for the 9th Judicial Circuit. Bain is noted for his experience and dedication to law enforcement.

NAACP Turns on Black Pro-Crime Soros DA

“It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime."

How bad is Soros DA Pamela Price? First the Asian community turned on her after she washed her hands of the murder of a 3-year-old boy, and now the NAACP.

Shouting “justice for Jasper,” “do your job!” and “victims come first,” protestors sounded off on Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price on Monday over concerns about how she’s handing the emotionally charged Jasper Wu case.

Jasper Wu, a 23-month-old boy, lost his life to a stray bullet while riding in his car seat.

Three men – Trevor Green, Johnny Jackson, and Ivory Bivens have their preliminary hearing on murder charges in three weeks. A member of the AAPI community asked Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price for an update on the case, and Price sent this email Tuesday that reads in part, “Our office is currently working on a partnership with the Asian Law Caucus to support AAPI victims of violence in ways that open up broader possibilities for healing and non-carceral forms of accountability.”

Price then sent a hostile email blasting Asian-American critics as ignorant of “constitutional law” and argued that the gang members are “presumed innocent”. Then she accused Asian-Americans complaining about her pro-crime policies of “mob violence” and claimed that “as a descendant of people in this country who were historically subjected to mob violence in the form of lynchings, racist profiling and wrongful convictions, I am particularly sensitive to the danger of this type of comment” and proposed a forum to “better educate” Asian Americans.

Price was so bad that Rep. Eric Swalwell, of all people, brought a victim’s mother to testify against her in the House.

The parents of 26-year-old Blake Mohs, a Home Depot loss prevention employee, who police said was shot to death by a shoplifter in April, are deeply troubled by the lack of communication with District Attorney Pamela Price and her decision to pursue lesser charges and sentencing in the case.

Police said Knapps stole a charger for a power tool, and tried to leave the store through the loading dock when she was stopped by Blake.

Lorie said her son was shot in the chest at close range, and Knapps retrieved the item after killing him.

Since his death, the family said Price has never reached out. It was only after consistent outreach on their part, that a DA assigned to the case responded.

“The phone call was that Pamela Price was not going to meet with us, she was not going to have a conversation with us, and we discussed my concerns about the charges, and we were not being kept in the loop with my victim’s advocate along with the DA’s office,” Mohs said.

“Can you also tell us — you have this public forum, a forum that you never wanted — but to the prosecutors in this case, I hope they’re listening to this, what do you want to see as an outcome?” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) asked in that meeting.

“We should be charging this case appropriately and we should be charging the case based on facts and not personal opinion or personal agenda,” Mohs said. “We should be using the judicial system as it should be used, not for personal gain but for the safety of our communities and our children. By not charging the proper ‘gun’ which is discharge and death, Benicia Knapps will serve much less of a sentence and the DA’s office is refusing to do so. It’s not fair that we have to be victimized again.”

Now the NAACP is turning against her.

The Oakland, California, NAACP civil rights organization blasted woke city leaders for their soft-on-crime policies which they say have led to skyrocketing numbers of shootouts and violent armed robberies, forcing residents to leave the area for good.

The group issued the statement Thursday as dozens of Oakland residents packed a public safety meeting and demanded progressive Alameda County DA Pamela Price to address the alarming uptick of violent crime in the city.

In the letter, the local NAACP chapter said residents are “sick and tired” of the shootings, car-break-ins and highway shootouts and implored city leaders to declare a state of emergency.

“There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety,” the group wrote.

“It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime. No one should live in fear in our city.”

The group, along with Bishop Bob Jackson of the Acts Full Gospel Church, said Price’s unwillingness to charge and prosecute serious criminals, as reported by The Post, has created “the proliferation of anti-police rhetoric and created a heyday for Oakland criminals.”

Jackson and the NAACP said no one is safe when it comes to becoming targets of criminals who have taken over Oaklands’ streets because of the lack of leadership and prosecution.

“African Americans are disproportionately hit the hardest by crime in East Oakland and other parts of the city,” the group said. “But residents from all parts of the city report that they do not feel safe. Women are targeted by young mobs and viciously beaten and robbed in downtown and uptown neighborhoods.

“Asians are assaulted in Chinatown. Street vendors are robbed in Fruitvale. News crews have their cameras stolen while they report on crime. PG&E workers are robbed and now require private security when they are out working. Everyone is in danger.”

DA Price’s whole argument was that she was defending black people against racism. Now that argument is dead. Her only constituents are criminals. Asians have turned against her. Even the NAACP is against her.

No one except Soros, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings and other rich white pro-crime lefties support criminals.

DA’s unwillingness to prosecute criminals

Crime is the explosive issue in the 2024 election, and unless vote fraud reaches heretofore undreamed of levels, it should propel the GOP to sweep many elections. That’s a big “if” of course.

The letter copied below just sent by the president of the NAACP chapter in Oakland and by a prominent Black church leader does not name names or political parties, but it is hard hitting, demanding the declaration of a state of emergency and the application of “massive resources” (meaning police and prosecution and incarceration, presumably) to address the out-of-control crime wave that is gripping much of California.

One of the signers, Bishop Bob Jackson, the founder and charismatic senior pastor of Acts Full Gospel Church in Oakland (their website is here), is a man that I have known about and admired for decades. He is a riveting, charismatic preacher. Through friendships with congregants there, I’ve gotten to know the remarkable self-help-with-community-support gospel they follow. The welcome for strangers of any race who attend their services is warm and sincere. The last I heard, everyone there has a job, and if they don’t when they join, they soon do, with lots of help and encouragement. I know from experience that they help each out to succeed in whatever work they pursue.

This letter shows the degree of disgust with the policies Democrats have sold that is bubbling up from the grass roots of the Black community not just in Oakland, but all over the country.  The GOP must build on this movement.

Here are the two pages of the letter, via this tweet:

Biden's Kampf

By Warren Beatty

Joe Biden said in 2020 that his was a "battle for the soul of this nation."  In his announcement video Biden said, "In that moment, I knew the threat to this nation was unlike any I had ever seen in my lifetime."  He was referring to President Donald Trump's remarks at Charlottesville VA.  In a 13 August 2017 tweet Biden wrote, "Three years ago today, white supremacists descended on Charlottesville with torches in hand and hate in their hearts.  Our president said they were 'very fine people.'  It was clear then, and it's clear now: We are in a battle for the soul of our nation, and we must win."

Trump's remarks had been twisted by the MSM into a malicious lie.

Biden knew what the MSM had done.  But he ran with the lie anyway because even though he was a doddering old fool he was an astute politician.  'Battle for the soul of our nation' became a catchphrase he frequently used.  Biden spoke in many campaign speeches of being in a 'battle for the soul of the nation.'

Biden said in his inauguration speech, "On this January day, my whole soul is in this: bringing America together."  He said unity was required in order to "...restore the soul and to secure the future of America."  Biden's comments would have been encouraging had they been true.  Biden issued executive orders that angered energy producers, pitted women against men, and blacks against whites, played religious people against secularists, advanced the transgender community, and sacrificed unborn children's rights to the pro-choice crowd.

Fast forward three years.  Biden is again running on the lie he morphed into a 'battle for the soul of our nation.'  "When I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America.  And we still are."

For Biden it has always been about his battle to secure the soul of America for those to whom he sold it.

For George Soros it was about control to gain influence, access, and special treatment.  After the election Biden formed a transition team that staffed itself with people connected to Soros.

But his money also played a part.  Soros spent over $70 million on activities that backed Biden's candidacy.  Soros bought frequent access to Obama.  That access returned under Biden.

The Vera Institute of Justice, a Soros-associated entity, funds radical-left agendas that persecute law enforcement.  It partner with district attorneys to manipulate 'racial disparities' in decisions for criminals.  They state their mission is to demolish what they perceive as a 'racist' system.  It views immigration enforcement agencies as a threat to civil liberties. Vera Justice's president, Nick Turner, said, "We work to transform the immigration system because many of the problems that we see in the criminal legal system are just the same in the immigration system.  And by transform, what I mean is to shrink both of those systems."

Jon Stryker, heir to the Stryker Corporation fortune, is an LGBTQ+ activist.  He contributed $150,324 to Biden. Stryker is the founder of the Arcus Foundation, a left-leaning grantmaking foundation which has focused upon promoting LGBT+ interests.

Stryker's contribution is chump change compared to others (Hiam Saban contributed $1,500,000.  That's the same Hiam Saban who combined with George Soros to contribute $3 million to Hillary Clinton), but it illustrates where Stryker's heart is.

Arcus contributed to two religious-based groups to convince church-goers and pastors to support same-sex couples having the legal right to marry.  It focused its social justice initiatives upon groups which address LGBT+ issues.  Arcus’ LGBT+-related activities gave $75,000 to Advocates for Informed Choice, an advocacy group for transgender and gender-nonconforming people.

To satiate the LGTBQ+ crowd and placate Jon Stryker, Biden issued a proclamation to make 31 March 2023 the Transgender Day of Visibility.  He stated, "Transgender Americans shape our Nation's soul -- proudly serving in the military, curing deadly diseases, holding elected office, running thriving businesses, fighting for justice, raising families, and much more."

Planned Parenthood, with over 60% of its federal funding coming from patients who rely upon public health programs like Medicaid and Title X for their preventive and primary care, is yet an other example. Planned Parenthood gave $45 million to Biden's campaign, a threefold increase over its 2016 presidential campaign contributions.  Biden, while campaigning, promised to overturn the Trump administration's pro-life policies and to have abortion rights incorporated into federal law.

Does Biden believe these people and organizations that got him elected won't demand repayment?

Biden selected, on seventeen occasions, people for his transition teams who worked for organizations founded or funded by Soros.  Biden picked these individuals for teams at the State Department, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, U.S. Mission to the U.N., Department of Defense, Department of Labor, Department of the Interior, Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, Banking and Securities Regulators, National Security Council, Office of the US Trade Representative, and Department of Veterans Affairs.

Soros' son Alexander, chair of the Open Society Foundations, gained access to the White House at least twelve times in 2022, including a visit on December 1 with Nina Srivastava, advisor to Ron Klain, Biden's Chief of Staff.  Four other past or present Open Society Foundations bigwigs have racked up a combined 33 private White House meetings in less than two years.  Tom Perriello, director of Open Society Foundations' U.S. operation gained access seventeen times in 2021, including a December 15 meeting with Rachel Chiu, head of the White House's Office of Political Strategy, and with White House Associate Director of Strategic Outreach Sabrina Bousbar.  He met on December 2 with John Podesta, Biden's senior advisor for clean energy innovation and implementation.

An inappropriate relationship between Biden and Soros is reported by investigative journalist Matt Palumbo in his forthcoming book, The Man Behind the Curtain: Inside the Secret Network of George Soros.  According to Palumbo, the relationship gives Soros direct influence over Biden's White House and State Department.  Once the relationship became public, Representative Lee Zeldin (R-NY) requested information from Secretary of State Anthony Blinken (a Soros man) regarding State Department sanctions against former Albanian president Sali Berisha, a vociferous enemy of Soros.

It's been five months since I made my original request, which is substantially more than enough time to adequately respond.

This is now my third request for additional information since raising the issue of sanctioning Sali Berisha with Secretary Blinken during the June 7, 2021 House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.

It is unacceptable and suspicious that the Department of State has not sufficiently fulfilled this request for additional information in a timely manner and has instead chosen to slow-walk a Congressional request for transparency.

Health and Human Services awarded Vera a contract for $158 million to "...provide immigration related legal services to unaccompanied minors so they can avoid deportation."  The Department of Justice awarded Vera $290 million over the last 12 months to help illegal immigrants avoid deportation.

I'm certain this is only the tip of the iceberg.

George Soros: A New Kind of Tyrant?

By Diana Mary Sitek

The venomous careers of Hitler and Stalin provoked the study of totalitarian regimes as the very epitome of evil, depriving their citizens of freedom and of life itself. A state captured by a demagogue is considered a sure sign of danger ahead -- hence the alleged justification by the Left for their hysteria over “rabble rouser” Donald Trump’s election. Overlooked until more recently are the unelected, bloated bureaucratic fiefdoms and regulatory encroachments of both national and global government and non-governmental institutions, which have created the opportunity for a sinister, large scale violation of political power.

This new abuse was foreshadowed in the career of FBI architect and director, the corrupt J. Edgar Hoover. It has been notched up to a planetary level of hyper-coordination by George Soros as preliminary to the installation of his global Open Society. In this grandiose plan, state governments (specifically the USA) will be reduced to the level of relay stations for a supranational, Sauron-like centralization of power.

What unites the totalitarian and the new tyrant are three personality characteristics, proposed by Professor John D. Mayer in his 1993 article, “The Emotional Madness of the Dangerous Leader.” The first is indifference. The tyrant is consumed by a single-minded, fanatical purpose and has no regard for the suffering wreaked on others during its implementation. The second is intolerance of those whose opinions differ, facilitated through control of the media, secret and insider knowledge, revenge against anyone who thwarts, and a paranoid mania to shut down all opposition. The third character trait (the foundation of the previous two), is psychopathic grandiosity. The power-abuser assumes a messianic pose of unifying society under a utopian plan and persuading others to participate. The very intensity of the tyrant’s narcissism is transferred to vulnerable supporters eliciting a narcotic rush of enthusiasm.

What is easily overlooked is that the sham scheme is not a political health remedy, but a device for maintaining the megalomaniac’s sense of personal omnipotence. In Soros’ own words, “Next to my fantasies about being God, I also have very strong fantasies of being mad. In fact, my grandfather was actually paranoid.” Soros seems disarming in his frankness. But delusions of grandeur preclude self-knowledge, as Soros’ next statements reveal. “I have a lot of madness in my family. So far I have escaped it.”

Soros has spilled bucketloads of words proclaiming he is “amoral,” “self-interested,” and that “normal rules do not apply” to him. “I am unnatural. I am a sort of deux ex machina. I’m very comfortable with my public persona, because it is the one I have created myself.” And this from the man who controls politicians and bureaucrats like a boss giving dictation to his secretary. This is the man who has perfected the subversion of governments, who has robbed failing states, and lavishly endowed every organization and movement destructive of traditional Western society, from abolishing the Electoral College to abolishing life itself if it is in utero, drug-addicted, or senile. His ambition is without borders -- “The Soviet Empire is now the Soros Empire.” “I’m the Pope’s boss now.” And so on, ad nauseum. Yet, like other tyrants, he is untouchable. Those he has made richer and more powerful protect him.

In March 1933 the Germans voted. They could have voted for the moderate Center Christian party. Instead they voted in Hitler. ‘Deplorable’ Americans however confounded Soros by not voting for “What can we do for you, George?” Hillary Clinton. Yet where are the congressional and Senate investigations into Soros? Where is the RICO indictment? Governments have been bought. The media has been bought. The Soros NGO empire operates an invasive, parasitic web currently devouring the body politic of the USA and many other nations besides.

What Trump’s election has revealed is the limitation of the Presidency in withstanding the transfer of power to unelected, publicly unaccountable bureaucrats, and venal politicians, more concerned with their benefices than their constituents. That void has allowed Soros to install himself as de facto puppet-master. We require bureaucracy, and we cannot prevent the existence of associations, but there is an urgent need for reform by abolishing permanency in government and establishing citizens’ tribunals of appeal against abuses of administrative power.

Recently in an interview on his simpering NPR, Soros confessed he was unprepared for the populist opposition to his insurrectionary agenda. Let us continue our opposition. Let us demand Soros be investigated and brought to justice as conditional for obtaining our vote. Those with connection to him must be banned from public office, and his assets frozen. Then his parasitical minions will shrivel, like leeches desiccated by a pinch of salt. If not, although we may escape the mass slaughter of the twentieth century, it will be at the cost of vassalage beneath a tyrant like George Soros.

The younger Soros says he is "more political" than his 92-year-old father, the Democratic Party’s biggest donor.

Alex Soros has given tens of millions of dollars to Democrats over the years. He contributed $5.25 million to the Senate Majority PAC in 2016 and 2018. He contributed $721,300 to the Biden Victory Fund in 2020 and $350,000 to Hillary Clinton’s victory fund in 2016. Soros has given millions more to the DNC and other Democratic committees.

Alex Soros has not contributed as much to other political advocacy groups as his father has over the years. George Soros, through his Democracy PAC and Democracy PAC II, has contributed tens of millions of dollars to traditional political committees, as well as to advocacy groups like Planned Parenthood, MoveOn, and American Bridge. Both Soroses have contributed this election cycle to moderate Democratic senator Jon Tester (Mont.), considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents in 2024.

The elder Soros has also funded a network of left-wing prosecutors whose soft-on-crime policies have been blamed for surging crime and low police morale. In 2018, Alex Soros contributed $100,000 to help elect Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison, a progressive Democrat who faced allegations of domestic abuse and blamed police for damage sustained during the George Floyd riots.

His Money Opens Democratic Doors

Alex Soros’s extensive campaign giving appears to open doors for him to many senior Democratic lawmakers.

The younger Soros huddled with Vice President Kamala Harris last week and declared he was "Ridin’ with Biden" in a recent photo with President Biden. He has rubbed shoulders with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and former President Barack Obama, according to his social media feeds.

He Spends A Lot of Time At the Biden White House

Alex Soros also appears to have open access to the White House, having visited at least 17 times during Biden’s tenure, according to visitor logs.

Most of those meetings have been with Biden’s political and domestic policy advisers, but Soros has had five meetings with Jon Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Soros met with Finer on the same day that Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited the White House. According to the Wall Street Journal, Soros met the left-wing Brazilian leader to advocate on behalf of the Open Society Foundations, his father’s philanthropy.

He Runs His Father's Left-Wing Nonprofit

Alex Soros took over in December as chairman of the board of Open Society Foundations, which pours hundreds of millions of dollars annually into progressive causes in the United States and around the world.

Open Society has backed groups that support the movement to defund the police and expand the Supreme Court, among other left-wing causes.

Alex Soros told the Journal he plans to use Open Society’s $25 billion war chest to fund the expansion of abortion and voting rights across the country.

He Lacks Dad's Business Savvy

Alex Soros does not appear to have his father’s business acumen, raising questions about the long term viability of his political empire. George Soros has amassed a fortune of around $7 billion, largely through his Soros Fund Management hedge fund.

Jonathan Soros, Alex’s older half-brother, was initially seen as the heir apparent to his father’s business and political empire, but the pair had a falling out over management style.

Alex Soros is an adviser to an apparel supply chain fund, Tau Management, funded by his father. Tau invests in apparel and textile factories in Asia in order to build "agile, sustainable manufacturing partners" to major apparel brands. The fund requires its partners to have a "strong and sincere commitment to [Equity, Sustainability, Governance]."

He Just Wants to Party

Before his ascent to the top of his father’s political empire, Alex Soros was better known for his semi-playboy lifestyle. According to the New York Post, Soros hosted celebrities at a $72 million Hamptons estate he rented in 2016, and has often been spotted hanging out with NBA players and supermodels.

Soros reportedly hired New York City club promoter Adam Spoont to recruit models to attend Soros’s house parties. Spoont’s success landed him an invitation to an Alex Soros fundraiser, where he was able to meet President Obama, according to Page Six.

His Father Has Been Accused of Domestic Abuse

George Soros on the beach / Splash News

The elder Soros's ex-girlfriend, Brazilian model Adriana Ferreyr, says Alex's dad once slapped and choked her while they were in bed. Ferreyr later sued George Soros for $50 million.

He pissed off Taylor Swift

Alex Soros led a consortium of investors who bought rights to Swift’s unreleased music for $330 million, drawing the ire of the pop superstar.

"It looks to me like Scooter Braun and his financial backers, 23 Capital, Alex Soros, and the Soros family and The Carlyle Group, have seen the latest balance sheets and realized that paying $330 million for my music wasn't exactly a wise choice and they need money," Swift said in 2020. "In my opinion, just another case of shameless greed in the time of Coronavirus. So tasteless, but very transparent."

THE UNGREAT DIVISIONIST BARACK OBAMA AND HIS GODFATHER GEORGE SOROS

As Obama approaches his sixtieth birthday, the age at which Khrushchev struggled for control of the USSR and Mao launched his Great Leap Forward, two events that would require a good deal of historical editing, our American past is already being rewritten. Only those who are at least in their thirties will remember that there wasn’t a racial crisis before Barack Obama.

Obama and the Broken Nation He Made Come Of Age

A generation doesn’t remember life before the crises he created.

Daniel Greenfield

Daniel Greenfield, a Shillman Journalism Fellow at the Freedom Center, is an investigative journalist and writer focusing on the radical Left and Islamic terrorism.

Barack Obama turns 60 over the summer. The AARP cover with Barry posing next to a basketball and a shelf of bestselling non-fiction books he hasn’t read can’t be too far away.

Once the symbol of youthful hipness, the former boss of Hope and Change now lectures “young people” on what they should be doing. His legacy is being carried forward by 78-year-old Biden and the 81-year-old Pelosi. That’s above the average age of 80 of the House Dem leadership.

The average age of the Biden cabinet is two years older than President Trump’s cabinet.

The gerontocratic technocracy uses AOC as its younger foil, but she’s been a stalking horse for Bernie Sanders who will hit the big 80 in the fall. The big donors behind the American Left are even older with George Soros due to hit 90 the same month Obama gets to 60. The even bigger reservoirs of cash flowing into the leftist machine are coming from the foundations of men who were born in the 19th century like Henry Ford, John D. MacArthur, and John D. Rockefeller.

That’s about right for a 19th century ideology whose followers keep trying to make it look young.

Youthful leftism is anarchic. It’s CHAZ, BLM, and Antifa. It’s open air heroin markets, smashed store windows, and political assassinations. Turning that anarchy into collectivism requires hysterical propaganda and rallies that appear anarchic, but are actually tightly controlled, ideas that seem edgy, but are actually the work of men who were born during the age of the steam.

If you think Bernie’s old, Karl Marx celebrated his 203rd birthday in May.

Obama’s policies have aged as badly as Marx, Biden, or their front man. But instead of moderating as they grow older, they only grow more radical. Obama equivocated on gay marriage, while Biden entirely erases the existence of women by calling them “birthing people”. Obama covertly weaponized the government against conservatives, while Biden is doing it openly. Everything from election rigging through H.R.1 to indoctrinating every government employee with critical race theory is happening more openly and blatantly under Biden.

Youthful leftist revolutions break the system while leftist gerentocrats impose the tyranny.

Making tyranny look like freedom requires hefty doses of chaos and outrage that make it appear that the system is being broken when it’s actually being built up. Or as George Orwell wrote in 1984, “One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.” The revolution is the thing it’s revolting against.

The end of history keeps arriving only to vanish like a mirage when the youth reach for it.

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal," Obama told his followers. Two years later, he privately snapped, "What does he think I'm supposed to do? Put on my f------ Aquaman gear and swim down there myself with a wrench?"

Thirteen years have passed and if the planet has begun to heal, Democrats won’t admit it.

The moment of epochal change can never be allowed to arrive because it would interrupt the permanent crisis. Salvation is always here and also always out of reach. But there’s always a new generation available to be fooled again because they know the past doesn’t matter.

History is radically revised every generation not just for what it teaches, but for what it doesn’t.

A revisionist history work like the 1619 Project doesn’t just impose a radical new racist history, it displaces the past. Another revisionist history will come along to displace the 1619 Project because manufacturing history churn is vital to destroying any continuity with the past. All the academic lenses being swapped one for the other like a mad ophthalmologist leaves a new generation with a lot of theories, but no clue that they’re being indoctrinated into a lost cause.

The Left has no new ideas. Like Hollywood, it makes old ideas seem new by rebooting them, by making them appear hip and trendy, and by destroying a meaningful connection with the past. And that way audiences don’t realize they’re just seeing the same movie remade over again. What might be creative bankruptcy in a movie theater is a more seriously sisyphean problem described by Churchill as, “Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.”

But how does a new generation learn from a past that isn’t allowed to exist on its own terms?

Demonizing the past is a convenient way of obscuring it. The only thing students are taught about the past is that it was a horrible time, its people backward, its customs savage, its learning wicked, its institutions racist, and its ideas horrifying. In postmodern history, the past exists only as a cautionary tale gleaned for historical struggles that fit into the new narrative.

History is an incomplete present whose revolutions were never fully fulfilled. It’s a revolutionary story of a world ruled by villains until they were overthrown by the forces of good. And this revolution against history must continue until all of the past is negated by the present.

The destruction of statues and burning of books forces ‘presentism’ for the past to conform to the dogmas of the moment. The biggest problem with the past isn’t that it’s politically incorrect, but that it’s repeating itself. The Black Lives Matter movement transparently harkens back to the 70s. So do most of the radical social impulses in which the Left cloaks its real power agenda.

The revolutionary chaos is doomed to fail again, but each oscillation breaks the country more.

The social activism is window dressing. A proper Marxist regime has little use for militant minorities, feminism, gay rights, police defunding, transgender bathrooms, pipeline protests, abortion, or any of the other issues the radicals have been using to waste our time. If you doubt that, go look at how many of any of the above you can find in China, Cuba, or North Korea.

The Russian Futurists vowed to throw the art and literature of the past overboard from the “steamship of modernity”. But the Bolsheviks were not looking for disruptive art and when the revolution arrived, modern art was tossed overboard and the former revolutionaries settled down to producing socialist realism and recreating the art of the past for the Soviet Union.

After a brief permissive period, the Soviet Union criminalized homosexuality and insisted on traditional marriages and roles for women. Those feminists who resisted were soon shown their place with one of the more notorious free love figures being forcibly married off by Lenin.

The dictatorship had eclipsed the revolution and the past was quickly rewritten all over again.

And there hadn’t been such a crisis for a generation before he took power.

Our racial crisis is not a legacy of 1619, but of 2008. Obama’s victory was not a revolution against a crisis, but the revolution that created the crisis. To a new generation, the racial crisis is a permanent feature of life. They have always lived under the crisis and expect to always live under it. That is why critical race theory and white privilege rants have become so pervasive.

Without a generation coming of age in a world shaped by the toxic idea that all white people are evil and all minorities are victims, no one outside academic circles would have willingly accepted them. And if that generation seems all too easy to radicalize into supporting the most insane policies, that’s because it grew up in a world defined by the hysteria of manufactured crises.

The world as they know it is doomed by melting ice caps, the rich getting richer, and the genocide of black people at the hands of the police. Every radical program is backed by a sense of urgent crisis which is killing people and destroying the future. They can’t imagine a present without the crisis and don’t remember ever living in a world not defined by crisis.

As Obama gets closer to his AARP cover, a generation lives in the world that he made.

Like Obama, his radical political movement speaks endlessly about the past, but has no actual past. Its past is always being reinvented and retold through new narratives, but with no facts.

The Obama revolution has come and gone. We have skipped past it to the Soviet Union of Chernenko and Andropov, of gerontocrats building the tyranny with the beams of revolution. The decline is everywhere as the theories fail, the factories close, and the stores stand empty.

The youth are being rallied to cheer for the revolutionary tyranny of Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer who are promising a new era in history no one believes in anymore. Since the election their cause is no longer free college, it’s federalizing elections through H.R.1.

Federalizing elections, eliminating the filibuster, and packing the Supreme Court are compelling issues in Washington D.C., but the regime plotting new coups has little to say to the ordinary people facing high prices for gas and bread. Land, Bread, and Peace has given way to a race for total power over the country as the revolution of Hope, Crisis and Change comes of age.

There’s no change without crisis, and without hope, there’s only hate.

The Soros Plan To Flip Legislatures For Redistricting Is Moving Forward

January 17, 2020

Daniel Greenfield

The question is are Republicans ready for it?

Democrats are readying a massive $50 million effort of their own to shape the next 10 years of elections by flipping state legislative chambers in places as red as Texas and West Virginia next November.

The plan, backed by Democratic megadonors like Donald Sussman and the Soros family as well as small-dollar donors giving online via ActBlue, represents a sea change for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a former backwater in Democratic politics that has transformed as the party grappled with the importance of redistricting. In 2020, the last election before states redraw their political boundaries using new Census data, the winners of many state legislatures get the power to draw congressional lines that will last an entire decade.

Data that, thanks to Dem judges and Justice Roberts, will be fundamentally fraudulent.

In preparation, the DLCC has quadrupled its staff, partnered with a slew of other large Democratic groups including EMILY’s List and Barack Obama’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee, and planned to target as many as 14 states, according to plans shared first with POLITICO. The group will start by targeting one or more chambers in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas, and potentially expand over the course of the election to target additional legislative chambers in Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Montana, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The DLCC is chiefly targeting states where flipping just a handful of seats will give Democrats a seat at the governing table in 2021. Six target states are currently under full Republican control, with Democrats locked out of both the governorship and state legislative majorities. And the group is particularly interested in states where state lawmakers have absolute power over the congressional maps and the governor has little influence, like North Carolina.

Republicans have disclosed relatively few details about how they plan to win 2020’s pre-redistricting elections. Their central committee, the Republican State Leadership Committee — which helps elect lieutenant governors and other officeholders in addition to state legislators — recently announced it raised $19 million in 2019. The group has also recruited former House Speakers Paul Ryan, John Boehner and Newt Gingrich to help its efforts.

Why do I have an uneasy feeling about that last paragraph?

Soros-Linked Group Gets Six GOP Governors to Resettle More Refugees

JOHN BINDER

A pro-mass immigration organization with links to billionaire George Soros has successfully lobbied six Republican governors to resettle more refugees in their states.

For Fiscal Year 2020, President Donald Trump will continue cutting refugee admissions by reducing former President Barack Obama’s refugee inflow by at least 80 percent. This reduction would mean a maximum of 18,000 refugees can be resettled in the U.S. between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020. This is merely a numerical limit and not a goal federal officials are supposed to reach.

Coupled with the refugee reduction, Trump signed an executive order that gives localities, counties, and states veto power over whether they want to resettle refugees in their communities.

Executives at World Relief and the Evangelical Immigration Table — an organization with links to the Soros-funded National Immigration Forum — have been lobbying governors across the country to bring more refugees to their states. So far, six Republican governors have signed off to resettle refugees in their states, including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey.

The New York Times notes:

Jenny Yang, vice president for advocacy at World Relief, an evangelical agency whose work includes resettlement, has been steering an effort to lobby governors to keep their states open to refugees. [Emphasis added]

She said about 16 governors have submitted written consent, six of them Republicans. Gov. Doug Ducey, Republican of Arizona, agreed after receiving a letter supporting resettlement signed by 250 evangelical leaders. Gov. Greg Abbott, Republican of Texas, who leads the state that received the most refugees last year, has not yet offered his view, despite a plea from the mayor of Fort Worth to continue accepting refugees. [Emphasis added]

Refugee contractors, like the Lutheran Social Services organization, have deployed a campaign to get mayors, local officials, and governors to admit more refugees to their states. Those contractors’ budgets every year are reliant on ensuring that as many refugees are resettled across the U.S. as possible.

It remains unclear which six Republican governors, aside from Burgum and Ducey, have been successfully lobbied by the Soros-linked group.

This week, the Evangelical Immigration Table sent letters to the governors of California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin to ask them to bring refugees to their states.

The federally mandated refugee resettlement program has brought more than 718,000 refugees to the U.S. since January 2008 — a group larger than the entire state population of Wyoming, which has 577,000 residents. In the last decade, about 73,000 refugees have been resettled in California, 71,500 resettled in Texas, nearly 43,000 resettled in New York, and more than 36,000 resettled in Michigan.

Refugee resettlement costs American taxpayers nearly $9 billion every five years, according to the latest research. Over the course of five years, an estimated 16 percent of all refugees admitted will need housing assistance paid for by taxpayers.

88-Year-Old Asian Woman Faces Life-Threatening Injuries After Unprovoked Attack in San Francisco

July 26, 2023

A California man is under arrest after he allegedly violently assaulted an elderly woman in San Francisco last week, as crime rises and businesses leave the city.

After spitting in the face of another victim, 27-year-old James Lee Ramsey allegedly kicked the 88-year-old Asian-American woman to the ground Friday morning in downtown San Francisco, according to Fox News. Bystanders detained Ramsey until police arrived. The woman was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The unprovoked attack comes as San Francisco struggles with out-of-control crime, drug use, and homelessness that are driving businesses out of the city and state. Homicides and fentanyl deaths in San Francisco have both spiked in the past three years, with homicides increasing nearly 40 percent. More than half a million residents fled California in the two years after the pandemic’s start, according to the New York Post. More than 350 companies left California between 2018 and 2021, according to the California Globe.

Ramsey was charged with felony elder abuse and assault, as well as two misdemeanors for battery and vandalism.

San Francisco district attorney Brooke Jenkins called Ramsey's alleged crimes "horrific" and said she is "fed up with brazen violence."

Jenkins took office last July after her predecessor, Chesa Boudin, was recalled. During his stint as DA, Boudin ended cash bail and announced he would not prosecute a slew of misdemeanors, including prostitution and public urination.

Five-Year-Old on Cocaine Fatally Shoots 16-Month-Old on Marijuana

A five-year-old Indiana boy, allegedly high on cocaine, shot and killed his 16-month-old brother, who was allegedly high on marijuana, in March of this year.

The Daily Mail reported that 27-year-old Deonta Jermaine Johnson was in the apartment asleep when the five-year-old allegedly shot 16-month-old Isiah Johnson in the head.

CBS News noted that Johnson is the father of the deceased 16-month-old, not the five-year-old.

Initially, Johnson allegedly denied having a gun and claimed the 16-month-old had fallen or was otherwise injured by his brother. As police searched the apartment, they found a gun locked in a safe and another “in the drawer of a dresser,” according to the Daily Mail. Officers also discovered “93 fentanyl pills, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia inside the apartment.”

Prosecutors have since charged Johnson and 24-year-old Shatia Tiara Welch “with neglect and various drug charges.” Johnson also faces obstruction of justice charges for allegedly taking marijuana out of the apartment and hiding it in his car before officers arrived on the scene.

On April 15, 2023, the day of Isiah’s funeral, Welch posted on Facebook, “Today has been the hardest day of my life. HOW Tf do I say goodbye to my son my one-year-old baby? S*** so crazy I lost my best friend March 28th my life will NEVER be the same.”

33 Shot in Chicago in Bloody Weekend Under Soft-on-Crime Mayor

A crime scene in Chicago, 2021 (Getty Images)
July 25, 2023

A slew of weekend shootings over the weekend left at least 33 shot—with 6 dead and 27 wounded—in Chicago, where the Democratic mayor has called "defund the police" a "real political goal."

The city has averaged 13 homicides per week in the past year, compared with 10 per week in 2019, according to a local ABC affiliate. The bloody weekend was the deadliest this month.

The shootings come under the tenure of recently elected mayor Brandon Johnson, who took office in May after arguing the city should "have health professionals, not police, respond to crisis calls." He was the only candidate who did not support filling the 1,600 vacancies in the Chicago Police Department. Johnson’s predecessor, former mayor Lori Lightfoot, pushed similar soft-on-crime policies that included hiring mental health workers "to respond to 911 calls."

The City Council is set to hold a hearing titled "Treatment, Not Trauma," which aims to reform how the police respond to mental health crises.

After a violent weekend in April in which hundreds of juveniles wreaked havoc downtown, Johnson said the smashed windows and wounded bystanders were due to a lack of "spaces for youth to gather safely." 33 Shot in Chicago in Bloody Weekend Under Soft-on-Crime Mayor

After a violent weekend in April in which hundreds of juveniles wreaked havoc downtown, Johnson said the smashed windows and wounded bystanders were due to a lack of "spaces for youth to gather safely." The city sent "peacekeepers" into the streets to stop violence during Memorial Day weekend but subsequently charged a man wearing a peacekeeper’s vest in connection with a street scuffle.

New York City has a shoplifting problem, but kiosks aren’t going to stop it

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2023/05/new_york_city_has_a_shoplifting_problem_but_kiosks_arent_going_to_stop_it.html

By Andrea Widburg

Like all Democrat-run cities that turned against police in 2020, New York City has a crime problem, including an explosive uptick in shoplifting. Fortunately for New York City store owners, Mayor Eric Adams has a plan. The problem is that, as with all lefty plans, it will cost money and almost certainly be completely useless.

Ever since the George Floyd riots caused leftist-managed cities to defund their police, all sorts of crimes have increased. In New York City, the crime that’s really taken off is shoplifting.

In the first eight months of 2021, shoplifting in New York increased by 30% over rates in 2020. Of course, one could argue that slowly ending the lockdown was what made the difference. However, that wouldn’t explain what happened in 2022. In that year, shoplifting went up by another 45% over rates in 2021, with an even better marker being the fact that it was 275% higher than a decade or so earlier.

Shoplifting may be a non-violent crime, but it has a disastrous effect on people in the community because stores, including big box stores, respond to theft in two different ways: First, they raise their prices; then when that proves ineffective, they pick up their marbles and go home by shutting down stores. In San Francisco, for example, Walgreens closed five stores due to shoplifting. Target, meanwhile, predicts that retail crime will cost it as much as $1.3 billion:

Crime-battered retail giant Target said it expects to suffer as much as a $1.3 billion hit to its bottom line because of “theft and organized crime,” according to the company’s first-quarter earnings report released Wednesday.

The Minneapolis-based chain said its profit will be squeezed by “$500 million more than what we saw last year” – when the company lost as much as $800 million from “inventory shrink.”

Considering that Target voiced its full-throated support for BLM and dug deep in its pocket to support the communist organization, one can’t help but notice an “actions have consequences” scenario at work. That’s a shame because Target used to be a very nice place. Now, though, aside from shoplifting, lots of people (me included) are fed up with its Pride shenanigans, which it’s now aimed at children. But I digress…

New York mayor Eric Adams seems to have been feeling the heat from merchants in New York City, so his office has announced a “crackdown on shoplifting plan.” As always, though, when the government steps in to help, the devil is in the details:

And yes, that screen shot is real, not a Photoshop. According to Fox 5’s full report,

The new crackdown includes giving first-time offenders intervention programs instead of prosecution, de-escalation training for retail employees, establishing neighborhood retail watch groups to share information about a theft in real-time with one another and the police, and installing kiosks in stores to connect would-be thieves with social service programs.

One of the things that everyone has noticed about shoplifters is that they’re not starved, Dickensian-style waifs stealing a loaf of bread to survive. Instead, they’re organized gangs that go in and steal merchandise that has a good retail value on the street:

Or if they’re eating what they steal, it’s party time, not starvation time:

What’s happening is organized crime:

In other words, little police kiosks promising social services (which will augment all the posters about social services in the crime-ridden NY subway) are not going to change things. Nor will friendly little “intervention programs” affect what is hardcore criminal activity. The NYC plan is taking a flyswatter to an out-of-control wild boar.

I would say that the people of NYC deserve better but, actually, they don’t. This is what they voted for. It’s not just that Adams garnered 80.4% of the vote in Manhattan, 76% in the Bronx, 70.8% in Brooklyn, and 59.8% in Queens, with only Staten Island showing the good sense to vote for Curtis Sliwa (66.4% of the votes). It’s also that a total of only 1,125,000 turned out to vote, out of a city with a population that’s close to 9,000,000.

The only ones I feel for are the conservatives (some of whom I count among my good friends) who took the time and made the effort to vote. As to those people, I’ve heard that Florida’s a nice place, as are most of the southern states.

Walgreens Closes Five Bay Area Stores amid BLACK Shoplifting Surge

Michael M. Santiago/Getty

PAUL BOIS

The ongoing shoplifting surge has forced Walgreens to close five more San Francisco stores as local law enforcement continues to do next to nothing to curtail the problem.

In a statement to SF Gate, Walgreens spokesman Phil Caruso confirmed “organized retail crime” has strangled San Francisco stores.

“Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that,” Caruso said. “Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.”

“During this time to help combat this issue, we increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average in an effort to provide a safe environment,” he added.

Asha Safai, San Francisco Board of Supervisor for District 11 admitted to feeling “devastated” over the closure a Walgreens store that has “been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades.”

“I am completely devastated by this news – this Walgreens is less than a mile from seven schools and has been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades. This closure will significantly impact this community,” he tweeted.

Safai told SFGate that the shoplifting had crippled the store’s bottom-line and endangered the staff and customers to an unhealthy degree.

“This is a sad day for San Francisco,” Safai said. “We can’t continue to let these anchor institutions close that so many people rely on.”

Shoplifting has skyrocketed in San Francisco recently, likely a result of Proposition 47, which dictates stealing would not be a felony in California if the item stolen did not exceed $950.

The damage has been felt across a range of business outlets.

In May of this year, The San Francisco News described the situation as being “out of control,” noting that 17 Walgreens have had to close in the past five years due to rampant shoplifting in the city.

17 Walgreen locations in San Francisco have closed their doors within the last five years according to a report from the SF Chronicle. Ten of these closures transpired from 2019 to this year with the last Walgreens store to close its door as of this writing, back on March 17. The cause of the closures is due to rampant shoplifting and looting that has transpired at Walgreen locations in the city believed to be perpetuated by an organized crime ring.

On Thursday, May 13 a hearing was held by the Board of Supervisors with retailers, the SFPD, the district attorney’s office, and probation departments. Brendan Dugan, director of organized retail crime and corporate investigations, believes that San Francisco is at the center of organized retail crime. He brought up a state bust in the Bay Area from last year in which $8 million in stolen merchandise was confiscated from five suspects. The merchandise came from CVS, Target and Walgreens stores from all across San Francisco.

The lack of enforcement made shoplifters so nonchalant and casual they would often steal in broad daylight while awestruck customers documented the crime on their iPhones, allowing for some viral internet moments.

San Francisco Safeway Cuts Hours Due to Rampant Shoplifting

JOEL B. POLLAK

A prominent Safeway supermarket in the Castro district of San Francisco is limiting its hours due to rampant shoplifting, the latest example of a retail store closing or limiting its operations in the left-liberal city due to out-of-control petty crime.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday:

Shoppers at the Safeway in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood will see a noticeable change to the store: It now closes at 9 p.m. due to what one supervisor described as “out of control” shoplifting.

Once open 24 hours a day, the Safeway store on Market and Church streets now has the earliest closing hours of all the Pleasanton-based supermarket chain’s San Francisco storefronts, most of which stay open until midnight.

[San Francisco Supervisor Rafael] Mandelman said theft at the Safeway at 2020 Market Street has been “out of control” and recently met with Safeway representatives “to better understand the issues at this store.” He said he also planned to meet with the San Francisco Police Department and the office of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin “to see what is currently being done to deter theft at Safeway, and to figure out a plan to do better.”

Earlier this year, Walgreens closed 17 stores in the city due to shoplifting, which skyrocketed after California voters passed Proposition 47, a ballot initiative aimed at criminal justice reform, which reclassified thefts up to $950 as misdemeanors. As a result, such thefts are rarely prosecuted.

The crime spike began under former district attorney George Gascón, who is now district attorney for Los Angeles County, and has continued under Chesa Boudin, who now faces a likely recall election.

Is Stealing Wrong?

Not on the Left.

To most readers of this column, the question is absurd. The reason is not because the question is, in fact, absurd; it is because most readers of this column are conservative, and many are religious.

Am I implying that most leftists do not believe stealing is wrong?

Yes, I am.

As incredible as this assertion is to just about all religious people and virtually all conservatives, most leftists do not believe stealing is wrong. Since I always draw a distinction between those on the Left and liberals, let me add that I suspect most liberals think stealing is wrong. But it almost doesn't matter because they vote for people who do not think it is.

One proof is the passage of Proposition 47, a California ballot initiative passed in 2014, under which theft of less than $950 in goods is treated as a nonviolent misdemeanor and rarely prosecuted. As a result, in Democrat-run California cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, retail theft has soared.

Walgreens stores in San Francisco are racking up four times the average amount of theft in Walgreens stores across the country; spending on security guards in San Francisco is 35 times more than the chain's average in other cities. Walgreens has been forced to close 22 stores in the city since 2016.

As reported in the San Francisco Chronicle: "The Safeway located in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood ... was a longstanding, 24-hour fixture in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood. But as of last week, the store's hours have been cut back to 6 a.m. to 9 p.m ... A Safeway spokesperson (said) that the cutbacks are 'due to an increasing amount of theft at the store.'"

Further proof that the Left doesn't consider theft wrong — at least when committed by a person of color — was an interview broadcast on NPR last year with the author of a book titled "In Defense of Looting." The NPR interviewer threw only softball questions to the author.

In the last election, Los Angeles voters elected San Francisco's previous district attorney, George Gascon, as Los Angeles's district attorney. It was Los Angeles's way of declaring that stealing is not wrong. And it is worth noting that it is not only racial minorities and the poor who make these elections possible; it is also prosperous whites. The Los Angeles DA is a wealthy white, and he was supported by a white billionaire, George Soros.

It is hard to believe that millions of Americans do not deem stealing from stores morally wrong, so let's try to explain how this has come about.

Reason No. 1 is moral relativism. For as long as there has been a Left, it has rejected moral absolutes. As the great British historian, Paul Johnson, pointed out a half-century ago in his magnum opus, "Modern Times," the secular world applied the relativism of the natural sciences to morality.

Reason No. 2 is the reason for reason number one: the collapse of the Judeo-Christian value system and the accompanying abandonment of, and often disdain for, biblical ethics. Biblical morality posits moral absolutes — meaning that stealing is wrong for everyone, certainly people of every color. Yes, one can offer a biblical defense of a starving man stealing food for his starving family. But that is hardly what is happening in San Francisco and other American cities.

Reason No. 3 is Marxist morality. From Marx to the present, Marxism has divided the world not between right and wrong, but between economic classes. Therefore, it is morally acceptable for members of the poorer classes to steal from members of the more affluent classes. This notion has made its way into young people's minds for decades. About 30 years ago, I spoke to students from four Cleveland high schools. I asked them to raise their hand if they would steal something they really wanted from a department store if they were certain they would not get caught. Nearly all the students raised their hands. When I asked some of them to justify their reasoning, they all said the same thing: they wouldn't steal from a mom-and-pop store, but they would steal from a department store. It is OK to steal from "the rich."

Reason No. 4 is leftists' view of nonwhites, especially blacks, a view that conservatives have never shared. Leftists truly believe that blacks are intellectually and morally inferior to whites. The evidence? They do not believe blacks should be held to the same intellectual and moral standards to which leftists hold whites. Leftists do not defend whites who steal, and they hold whites to higher intellectual standards. Leftists do not argue for lowering math standards for whites, only for blacks.

The bottom line is the Left is immoral. That is why it defends stealing.

 ONLY LOS ANGELES?!?

     CRIME IN AMERICA IS BLACK!

Residents of L.A.’s Watts Urged to Avoid Large Gatherings Due to Shootings

Residents of Watts, a predominantly Latino and black neighborhood in south-central Los Angeles, are being discouraged from attending large gatherings for the rest of 2023 due to the recent surge of drive-by and mass shootings in the area.

The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday:

Leaders have now called on Watts residents not to congregate in large groups for the rest of 2023.

The impassioned calls for “unity within the community” arrived on the heels of two shootings that killed two and injured nine near the Imperial Courts and Jordan Downs public housing projects, according to LAPD Deputy Chief Emada Tingirides. She told The Times that law enforcement agencies were investigating the recent shootings.

Attendees were told during Tuesday’s briefing that both of the incidents involved lone gunmen. Disrespectful posts on social media likely fueled some of the shootings, which Rejón says is a trend that has picked up in other major cities across the country in recent years. He blames social media and online “rumor mills” that help disrespectful messages feed into a larger conflict.

The ongoing violence comes amid calls by newly-installed Mayor Karen Bass to hire 1,000 new Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers to bring the force back to 10,000 cops. Her predecessor, Mayor Eric Garcetti, vowed to cut $150 million from the LAPD during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, and to redistribute the funding to “communities of color.”

When Breitbart News asked Garcetti whether that would make such communities unsafe, he denied that it would. He also decried “systemic racism,” which he defined, when asked, as “racism that’s built into systems.” He is now U.S. Ambassador to India.

Crime has surged in many American cities in recent years, over a period that has coincided with the election of radical left-wing prosecutors, many of them backed by billionaire Democratic Party patron George Soros, such as Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón. Gascón has focused on reducing criminal penalties for violent felons, rather than reducing crime.

Meanwhile, Johnson has busied himself with looking to put $25 million in city funds to house illegal aliens, and turning several of the city’s schools and colleges into shelters for illegal aliens. Even as up to 50 Chicagoans have been shot every weekend since he took office.

Chicago Police Finally Make Large Number of Arrests During Teen Mass Rampage

For the last several years, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) has engaged in a policy of “hands-off” as huge groups of hundreds of teens and young adults rampage through neighborhoods looting stores, vandalizing cars, fighting with each other, and even shooting people. But on Sunday, police reversed that policy and actually made dozens of arrests during one such mob scene.

Last weekend, the CPD made about 40 arrests as a large group of teens again targeted an area along Roosevelt Road in the city’s South Loop business district.

It was the largest number of arrests since 61 were arrested during a mob rampage in July of 2021, according to CWB Chicago.

Still, a mere 40 arrests made only a small dent in the mob of some 400 teens carousing through the area and totally trashing a 7-Eleven convenience store in the process.

Video shows the scene at the store:

According to NBC 5, most were charged with misdemeanors and immediately released, though a select few were hit with gun charges.

But, the CPD certainly made an about-face. In fact, according to CBS News, several CPD supervisors were heard encouraging officers to make arrests.

“Let’s be clear – for these kids are running in the street, mass arrest. Lock them up,” a supervisor was heard saying, CBS added.

“If you’re an officer, you should be putting hands on people and arresting them right now – not watching them walk by you,” the supervisor reportedly added.

Interim Chicago Police Supt. Fred Waller stood by the arrests.

“Our posture has been tolerant, and usually when we say that it’s curfew and we ask them to disperse, they do,” Waller said. “Yesterday, they, so to speak, crossed the line.”

Waller also said the arrests were for cause, not random.

“The arrests are a result of the actions. Before we asked them to move, we asked them to go home. It was curfew time, and they did. This time, they refused. They began fighting against each other,” Waller said. “We haven’t arrested people like that, but this group got so out of hand we had no choice.”

Community activists also tried to jump into action ahead of the appearance of the mob of teens. Seeing social media posts encouraging teens to gather in the area, activists say they began contacting businesses to close up and lock down to try and prevent damage to their best ability.

These mobs of teens have been causing havoc in Chicago for several years, now, and little has been done to stop them.

Just in April, a couple suffered injuries as groups of hundreds of teens rioted through the city’s downtown Loop area.

Also in April, two teens were shot by someone seemingly shooting randomly into the crowd of hundreds during four days of teen mob action.

In May, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a self-professed “progressive,” took office, but has thus far been able to make a dent in the rising crime rates, or put a stop to these mobs of teens terrorizing the city.

In fact, Johnson has scolded anyone critical of the mobs. In April he was heard chastising the media and Chicago’s weary residents for “demonizing” the mobs of teens.

“In no way do I condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and lakefront this weekend,” Johnson said after the four days of destruction wrought in April. “It is unacceptable and has no place in our city. However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.”

Meanwhile, Johnson has busied himself with looking to put $25 million in city funds to house illegal aliens, and turning several of the city’s schools and colleges into shelters for illegal aliens. Even as up to 50 Chicagoans have been shot every weekend since he took office.

Police: Man Posing as UPS Worker Beats Woman with Weighted Sock in Manhattan Elevator

Police: Man Posing as UPS Worker Beats Woman with Weighted Sock in Manhattan Elevator
New York Police

New York City police officers are on the hunt for a man who allegedly robbed and beat a woman with a sock stuffed “with an unknown object” inside an elevator in Manhattan on Sunday.

Surveillance images outside the building show that the suspect is a black male who appears to be posing as a UPS delivery man, the New York Post reported. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a black shirt and pants, a grey baseball cap, and a lanyard, and he was holding a package in one hand and a book bag in another.

The assailant reportedly robbed $25 from the 26-year-old victim who was transported to Bellevue Hospital. According to authorities, she is in stable condition.

The suspect fled the scene on a bike.

This latest incident in Manhattan comes days after Breitbart News reported that authorities responded to two stabbing victims outside of Magnolia’s Bakery in the West Village:

Eli Klein, 45, witnessed the attack while he was walking with his wife and infant daughter on the sidewalk. They ran away as soon as the incident broke out.

“It happened so close – it was 10, 15ft away – and we were on the same side of the sidewalk,” Klein told the DailyMail. “Normally I would stop to help the guy or take a picture of the suspect and give it to the police but in this instance, I had my baby with me, we just ran, we didn’t wait.”

‘I am Hopeless’ — Assailants Set Free After Putting NYC Cab Driver in Hospital

A cab driver in Democrat-controlled New York City is outraged after authorities released a man and woman after they allegedly beat him, landing him in a hospital bed with a neck brace on.

Afzal Butt, 61, said the July 19 evening attack in Midtown left him feeling “hopeless and helpless” with the criminal justice system and blamed New York’s bail reform laws for allowing the two of the five assailants to just be issued a desk appearance and be able to go home that same day, the New York Post reported.

“If they’re not going to put them behind bars, this is a horrible system,” Butt told the Post. “I am hopeless and helpless with this system.”

As a new poll by Sienna College Research Institute found 41 percent of the public has “never been this worried about safety,” Mayor Eric Adams flouts citizens’ concerns, claiming the news plays on people’s psyche.

“Let’s think about it for a moment, how do they start their day? They start their day picking up the news, the morning papers, they sit down and they see some of the most horrific events that may happen throughout the previous day,” Adams told Fox 5.

“Send the mayor the video and tell him die with the shame,” Butt told the Post.

Butt, who immigrated from Pakistan in 2004, pulled his cab over after a separate group of scooter riders threw food inside his cab. As he was cleaning his car, video shows the five attacking him after busting his side window. He falls to the ground and one of the assailants —  a woman with long braids — stomps on him. A bystander grabs her away from Butt. He was immediately sent to the hospital.

“There’s so much pain in my neck,” Butt said. “I still can’t move my neck. My arms, my knees, my hips. My chest felt like I was getting pressure on my chest. So much pain.”

Authorities arrested Howard Colley, 35,  Natalie Morgan, 51. Colley was charged with misdemeanor assault and Morgan was charged with criminal mischief; however, since neither had a criminal history and the offenses were just misdemeanors they were just issued a desk appearance.

A police source told the Post these lenient rules are thanks to the bail reform passed in 2019, which ended the practice of cash bail for most misdemeanors.

Authorities are still in search of three suspects: a 5ft5 woman with her hair in a bun, a 5ft10 man with an athletic build and a 5ft8 woman with lengthy braids.

A married father of two, Butt said his family is worried about him returning to work.

Oakland NAACP Calls for 'State of Emergency' Over Crime

July 28, 2023

The Oakland NAACP released a statement Thursday calling for state and local elected leaders to declare a "state of emergency" as a result of increasing violent crime in the California city.

The statement, written by Oakland NAACP president Cynthia Adams and Bishop Bob Jackson of Acts Full Gospel Church, blasted soft-on-crime local officials as well as left-wing activism for the surge in crime.

"Failed leadership, including the movement to defund the police, our District Attorney’s unwillingness to charge and prosecute people who murder and commit life threatening serious crimes, and the proliferation of anti-police rhetoric have created a heyday for Oakland criminals," Adams and Jackson wrote.

Adams and Jackson also said that African Americans were disproportionately affected by crime and criticized misguided attempts to alleviate racism by refusing to prosecute violent offenders.

"There is nothing compassionate or progressive about allowing criminal behavior to fester and rob Oakland residents of their basic rights to public safety. It is not racist or unkind to want to be safe from crime," the statement read.

Adams and Jackson called on city and state officials to devote additional resources, including police officers, to resolve the problem:

"We are in crisis and elected leaders must declare a state of emergency and bring resources together from the city, the county, and the state to end the crisis."

The statement comes amid a spike in crime in the Bay Area. In neighboring San Francisco, Mayor London Breed was forced to flee a speech on combating violent crime after someone threw a brick in the crowd.

Several big-name brands like Nordstrom and Saks OFF 5th and hotel chains have left the area due to concerns about public safety.

Nearly 50 people were shot, five of them fatally, Friday into Sunday night in Mayor Brandon Johnson’s (D) Chicago.

ABC 7 / Chicago Sun-Times noted that four others were fatally shot Friday into Sunday night, and those shooting victims were among the at least 47 people who were shot.

The first fatal shooting of the weekend occurred around 10:20 p.m. Friday. Two men, one of whom was 61 years old, pulled guns on each other “in the 2600-block of West Luther Street.” The 61-year-old was shot in the head and pronounced dead at a hospital.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the face and killed in Auburn Gresham Saturday night around 8:00 p.m.

A 20-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were walking “in the 1300-block of West Devon Avenue” around 1:45 p.m. Sunday when a drive-by shooter opened fire on them, shooting the man ten times. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Breitbart News reported that nine people were shot just before 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood when multiple people exited a Jeep and opened fire on a group of women. One woman was killed, and eight others were injured.

At 5:00 p.m. Sunday, another drive-by shooting occurred on the “6400 block of South Albany Avenue.” There was an exchange of words between someone in the car and a 66-year-old man before shots rang out. The 66-year-old was shot in the chest and was taken to hospital, where he died.

The Sun-Times pointed out that 342 people were killed in Chicago from January 1, 2023, through July 30, 2023.

A man is in custody after stabbing two people with scissors outside of Magnolia’s Bakery in West Village in New York City on Wednesday morning.

A 911 call was made at 9:58 a.m. First responders arrived on the scene quickly to treat the victims, Citizen reported.  The man allegedly slashed a 24-year-old man in the arm and another man in the neck, the Daily Mail reported. Both are in stable condition.

Witnesses described the  suspect as a black man wearing a gold chain and a navy shirt, the Daily Mail said. Officers called a Level One Mobilization and have a person in custody, but did not confirm the suspect’s description.

Deonta Jermaine Johnson, 27, and Shatia Tiara Welch, 24 (LaPorte Police Department)

A Bakersfield, California, intruder was shot by a resident and hospitalized in critical condition after allegedly forcing his way into a home around 8 p.m. last Friday.

Video from a Ring camera showed the suspect, 38-year-old Tanarri Stocker, who was allegedly armed, ringing a doorbell at one house then running to a neighboring house. It was at the neighboring home that the Stocker allegedly made unwanted entry and came face-to-face with a legal gun owner.

KGET reported Stocker allegedly entered via the garage then went into the home through a side door. A resident in the home shot Stocker, critically wounding him.

The Bakersfield Police Department indicated Stocker “is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.” The charges arising from Friday’s incident include aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm,

Gun-Controlled Washington, DC, on Pace for Deadliest Year in 2 Decades

Gun-controlled, Democrat-run Washington, DC, is witnessing a surge in murders that is putting it on pace to record its deadliest year in two decades.

Three homicides over the weekend brought the city’s total for this year to 161, which represents “a 28 percent increase over this time in 2022,” the Washington Post noted.

Jamila White chairs the Advisory Neighborhood Commission for the area in which the latest three murders occurred and claims city officials are not responding to the commission’s suggestions on how to fix things.

White said, “Our voices and our solutions are not being acted upon. The community has been doing what it can. The community is in survival mode.”

The DCist reported on August 2 that U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves, a Biden appointee, assured the city’s residents his office is working with police to focus on a small group of people who they believe are behind the killing and mayhem.

The outlet pointed to “a 2022 study…[which] found that as few as 500 identifiable people, many of them involved in neighborhood crews or cliques, are responsible for 70% of the city’s shootings.” That small group comprises those on whom Graves is focused.

Gabby Giffords’ gun control group, Giffords, points out Washington, DC, has universal background checks, gun owner licensing, a red flag law, an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, firearm registration, waiting periods for gun purchases, gun storage laws, and many other gun controls.

These same controls have also failed to stop shootings in California.

Portland Area Loses $1 Billion as Wealthy Taxpayers Flee Crime, Drugs and Surging Homeless Population

As taxpaying residents fled Portland, Oregon to escape rising crime, drugs, and a growing homeless problem, Portland’s county lost $1 billion in revenue between 2020 and 2021, an analysis of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data reveals.

The taxpayers who left Multnomah County, in which Portland is located, were mostly high-income earners, driving down average earnings and resulting in a record $1 billion of lost revenue, analysis conducted by OregonLive.com found.

Loss of personal income tax revenue is extremely harmful to Oregon’s financial situation. Without a state sales tax, Oregon counts on personal income tax revenue to provide for 86% of the state’s General Fund.

Multnomah County has reportedly suffered the largest loss of population of any Oregon county, according to Census data. Portland alone shed about three percent of the its population from 2020 to 2022, the sixth largest decline among the 50 largest U.S. cities.

According to the 2022 Portland Insights Survey conducted for the city, respondents cited Homelessness (44.5%), Cost of Living (21.8%), and Community Safety (19.5%) as Portland’s three greatest challenges.

What’s more, nearly three of four residents (72.1%) said that they don’t “feel safe walking during the NIGHT in the central city.” And, their concern appears well-founded, as an analysis of crime statistics concluded that 99% of U.S. neighborhoods are safer than Portland. Additionally, Portland residents are more than twice as likely to be victims of violent crime than are all Oregon residents, taken together.

Violent crime is increasing in Portland. Between 2019 and 2022, the number of both homicides and shooting incidents tripled. The 101 homicides in 2022 set an annual record-high for the city.

Drugs also pose an increasing threat, which has been exacerbated by the 2020 passage of Measure 110, which made Oregon the only state in the U.S. to decriminalize hard drugs, such as heroin, methamphetamine and (until earlier this year) fentanyl.

The harm done by the measure’s passage appears to have been both swift and brutal, The Washington Examiner explains:

“Since then, Oregon has become the state with the second-highest rate of substance use disorder and sees more than two deaths per day from opioid overdoses, according to a government audit of the consequences of Measure 110.

“According to preliminary Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates, Oregon's overdose deaths increased 6.76% from December 2021 to December 2022. The national increase was 0.5%.”

From 2019 to 2021, the number of unintentional opioid overdose deaths in Oregon skyrocketed from 280 to 745, according to state health department statistics.

Even with the crime and drug epidemics, Portland residents rate the homeless crisis the worst problem facing the city.

Indeed, the number of people living on the street in Multnomah County, which includes Portland, rose 29% from January 2022 to January 2023

In all of Oregon, the homeless population jumped 23% from 2020 to 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s 2022 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report.

The homeless problem in Portland has gotten so bad that disabled residents were forced to file a federal class action lawsuit against the city, alleged that it violated the American with Disabilities Act by allowing the homeless, as well as their tents and their encampments, to obstruct sidewalks. On May 31, a settlement was reached and approved, requiring the city of Portland to take a series of specific steps to clear the sidewalks for safe passage.

This Is Your City on Fentanyl

Oregon’s decriminalization law has transformed large parts of Portland’s downtown into an open-air drug market.

https://www.city-journal.org/article/this-is-your-city-on-fentanyl

Officer Daniel DiMatteo is a 24-year police veteran—ten years with the Chicago P.D., then 14 years and counting with the Portland Police Bureau. He’s worked on gang crime and gun violence. And now, he spends much of his time trying to deal with Portland’s drug crisis.

On the day I met him, in March 2023, DiMatteo was patrolling a stretch of downtown around Washington Center, a decommissioned shopping mall that has become a hot spot for drug use. Not long afterward, cops swept the area after it saw 11 overdoses in one night. But on this day, it was full of people, many of them homeless, most using drugs in broad daylight.

Tiny foil scraps covered the ground for blocks, remnants of “safe smoking kits”: you put your drug of choice on the foil, heat it with a lighter, and inhale the resultant smoke through a straw (also provided). Most of the users were smoking, though a few also shot up. Needles are also freely available.

The drug of choice is fentanyl. Heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine are all out of the picture now, explained DiMatteo. Instead, people smoke fentanyl, either as loose powder or pressed into the shape of pills, called “blues” for their color. A blue runs $2 or so; chronic users on Portland’s streets will routinely consume 20 to 30 a day.

Over the course of two hours, DiMatteo doesn’t arrest any of the numerous people we see smoking drugs in the middle of the sidewalk. He can’t. Since February 2021, possession of controlled substances has been “decriminalized” in Oregon, a decision that voters approved as part of state Ballot Measure 110. The best he can do is write a $100 ticket—which will, in almost all cases, not be paid.

At one point, DiMatteo spotted a man about to light up, and flagged him over. The man was a youngish white guy, wearing wraparound shades. He’d been using for about three years, he said, and then, at DiMatteo’s request, he revealed what he was holding—a blue and some white powder, perched in the foil. This, he said, he got for about $7; it will keep him feeling good for a few hours. A friend darted over, grabbed his lighter, and darted away. “What’s your friend worried about?” asked DiMatteo. The guy looked puzzled, replying, “It’s decriminalized, right?”

Instead of ticketing or arresting, DiMatteo’s approach was mostly to make his presence known, usually with a wise-guy attitude. When we turned a corner and spotted an open-air drug deal, he told the men to break it up. The dealer wasn’t carrying enough—usually under a gram—to warrant an arrest, but that didn’t stop DiMatteo from warning him not to pull the knife visible in his back pocket. We saw several of these; machetes are apparently also common. Homicide among Portland’s homeless is, not coincidentally, at its highest point in over a decade.

Even absent danger, such interactions are often frustrating. Maybe three in every four users he talks to, DiMatteo claimed, concede that, yeah, they shouldn’t be doing drugs in public. But while DiMatteo repeatedly offered help in finding treatment or a shelter, only one person said yes. A fire department employee we met said that for every ten people he offers services to, eight or nine say no.

And if they say no, nothing much else can be done, because there are no consequences for smoking fentanyl on a public sidewalk. There is, lamented DiMatteo, “no accountability.” Most users tell him that they have no reason to go to a shelter—shelters have curfews and rules about drugs, after all, and tents don’t. Aren’t they freer, in a sense, if they reject help?

Many of their fellow Portlanders, alarmingly, seem to agree. DiMatteo once knew a woman, he said, who offered to have him write her a ticket for smoking meth in public, just so he could feel useful. At one point, as the two talked, a driver stopped, rolled down his window, and told DiMatteo to stop harassing the woman. “He’s trying to talk to me about getting services!” the woman shot back. The driver, oblivious, insisted that DiMatteo leave her alone anyway.

This, in miniature, is the attitude that produced Measure 110: all law enforcement does is harass drug users, making their lives worse. Leave the addicts alone and then . . . well, surely things will get better.

Officer Daniel DiMatteo, a 24-year police veteran, who has worked on gang crime and gun violence, now spends most of his time dealing with Portland’s drug crisis—though he makes few arrests.

Portland has a homelessness problem. Of the 5,000 homeless individuals in Multnomah County (where the city is located), about 3,000 were unsheltered on the coldest night of the year; around the same number are chronically homeless. It also has a drug problem. The drug-overdose death rate more than doubled between 2018 and 2021. In 2021, more than one in every 2,000 county residents died from a drug overdose, usually from fentanyl or methamphetamine. The problems tend to intersect: nearly 200 homeless people died in the county in 2021, and 82 percent of those deaths involved drugs.

These problems don’t distinguish Portland from other big West Coast cities. San Francisco and Seattle have large homeless populations and high overdose death rates. What makes Portland different is its response. In November 2020, voters passed Measure 110, the “Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative,” by a 17-point margin. The law made small possession of drugs only a “violation,” punishable by just a $100 fine, which can be waived if the violator calls a hotline to get a free “health assessment.” And it mandated the creation of an expansive network of addiction-services facilities funded by marijuana-tax revenue.

Measure 110’s passage represented a major victory for an ascendant, progressive view of drug policy. America, in this telling, has been wrongly approaching drug addiction from a punitive angle, locking up millions of people—disproportionately “black and brown”—just for getting high. Instead, advocates contend, we should decriminalize drug possession and treat drug use as a “public health” problem, to be addressed through the judicious application of social services.

“I think it was about recognizing when something isn’t working,” said Tera Hurst, who led the fight to pass 110 and now runs the Oregon Health Justice Recovery Alliance, which advocates for its implementation. “The criminalization of people creates really harmful barriers for folks who are trying to get back into what we would say is a healthy, functioning society—trying to get housing, jobs, bank accounts, all of those things that are critical for you to really thrive here. Adding barriers to someone because they have a small amount of drugs in their pocket just doesn’t feel like commonsense public policy.” Further, Hurst added, Oregon’s addiction-services system was (and is) “half the size it should be.” That last part seems right: national data put Oregon last among states by share of people who need, but aren’t getting, treatment for substance abuse. It’s second only to Vermont for the share of its population admitting to recent drug use.

Still, Measure 110 has been mired in controversy. In an audit, the Oregon secretary of state called the rollout “challenging,” attacking the primary oversight body for failing to deliver on key responsibilities. Cities and counties have tried to claw back marijuana funds, saying that 110 “blew a hole” in their budgets. The police insist that the measure has gutted their ability to enforce public order. Addiction health experts have charged that it hasn’t provided the treatment services that Oregonians were promised. Drug deaths keep rising.

The vision behind Measure 110 isn’t new. Organizations like the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA), the George Soros–backed advocacy group that pushed for 110, have promoted these ideas for years. But in Oregon, they have finally rallied the political and financial will needed to make it a reality. The DPA poured more than $5 million into the initiative. Other major policy funders joined it, including the Laura and John Arnold Foundation ($700,000), the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative ($500,000), and the Sixteen Thirty Fund ($250,000). The anti-110 side raised just over $160,000. It’s surprising that the vote was as close as it was.

Visit Portland, though, and it’s hard to see how the new situation is an improvement. The regime that 110 is building seems primarily geared toward facilitating, rather than alleviating, addiction. A purportedly “carceral” regime has been replaced by one of neglect—benign or otherwise.

One beneficiary of Measure 110’s funding is the Miracles Club, a recovery-services program based on Portland’s east side. It’s used the $3.2 million it received under 110 to operate three transition houses, as well as offer a variety of programming, from intensive outpatient treatment to acupuncture. The program also regularly distributes clothes to the homeless. The procedure is simple: two club employees—on this day, Dom and Kayla—bundle clothes, new from Costco, into the back of a car, and head out to distribute them. They’ve also put together harm-reduction kits—needles, naloxone (liquid and injected), bandages—in “Miracles Club” tote bags, to be offered along with the clothes.

“Harm reduction,” meaning interventions that make drug use (ostensibly) safer without necessarily discouraging continued use, is a big priority under the new regime. In 110’s first year, nearly 60 percent of the 16,000 clients who accessed services that it funded got some kind of harm-reduction service, like needle exchanges or naloxone. Less than 1 percent got treatment.

The first Miracles Club stop is Dawson Park, a hub of the black community on Portland’s east side. When Dom and Kayla pop the trunk and start giving out clothes, most of those shuffling up to pick over the offerings are black, though a few white faces are visible, too. The club’s goal is to provide comfort: being homeless, addicted to drugs, is harsh enough, so why should anyone in such circumstances not get clean things to wear? It doesn’t matter, apparently, that most of the men and women rifling through the garments seem dressed in clothes of similar quality to what they’re receiving for free. Nor does it matter that at least one man who takes a jacket for himself is clearly not homeless. Across the street, it looks as though one woman turns around and sells an article of clothing she’s just picked up to another. But who can say?

After Dawson Park comes downtown, near where Officer DiMatteo was working. The Miracles Club car stops across from the offices of Street Roots, a local homelessness-advocacy group, where many homeless individuals congregate. The procedure here is mostly the same: club workers hand out clothes and harm-reduction kits, no questions asked. According to Kayla, the Miracles Club’s workers don’t go out of their way to solicit street people for services, as DiMatteo did, but wait for them to ask for help. This is not unusual practice among drug-focused nonprofits; it’s part of the “meet people where they’re at” ethos.

The Miracles Club does more than provide free clothes. According to information that the club provided to Portland magazine We Out Here, Measure 110 funds have covered a wide variety of its services—among them, transitional housing beds, 27 in total, including ten in a house specifically for the “African American LGBTQ+ community.” But there’s also a “living wage” that the club provides for “peer mentors” (recovered addicts who now help current ones). And the 110 money pays for other things for club clients: hygiene products, food, rent, phones, and even gas.

That’s all very charitable. But few of those offered the Miracles Club’s services get help to quit drugs. In 2022, the club told We Out Here, it contacted nearly 7,000 homeless people and had 1,700 peer-to-peer counseling encounters. But just 83 of its clients completed residential treatment, and another 78 finished outpatient treatment. That’s not so far off from the number (37) who got free computers.

Some Miracles Club services may indeed help drug abusers on some level (the jury remains out on acupuncture). But it’s hard to imagine that Oregonians expected that their tax dollars would go toward free computers and gas money when they voted for the Drug Decriminalization and Addiction Treatment Initiative. Certainly, life on the streets is unpleasant; but why is the marginal government dollar going toward making it less unpleasant—as opposed to getting the homeless and addicted off the streets?

Asked what he thinks of the view that making life on the streets more comfortable enables addiction, Dom pauses to consider. He is, he has previously volunteered, in recovery himself. On reflection, he says that, yes, this sort of thing enabled him when he was using. But, he continues, that’s just how he experienced it; others may see it differently.

Providing drug treatment was part of Measure 110’s justification. Nine percent of Oregonians were addicted to an illicit drug as of 2020, more than residents in any other state. Eighteen percent of those needing treatment, though, were not getting it—again, more than in any other state. The problem has been particularly acute among the young. As of last September, just four residential treatment facilities existed for teenagers, none offering medication-assisted treatment. Measure 110 funds were supposed to fill that gap. And the money is now flowing—more than $250 million has been promised, and $150 million paid out. But is all that money providing what addicted Oregonians really require?

Some of the funds are going to Alan Evans. Evans was homeless and addicted to drugs for 27 years. Now, he runs Helping Hands Reentry Outreach Centers, a comprehensive homelessness-services program operating across several Oregon counties. But despite now accepting Measure 110 money, Evans voted against the initiative, he said, because it removed the accountability that is necessary to help people escape addiction, and failed to prioritize the integrated services that many of his clients desperately need. “We legalize drug use,” Evans noted, “and we also do harm reduction, we give free needles, we give foil, we teach people how to use responsibly, we give them Narcan. The message we’re sending to people like me, that come from that place, is stay exactly where you’re at, and by the way, we’re going to do our best to help you so that you don’t die, and why don’t you wait for three to 20 years and we’ll get you housing built?”

Most Measure 110 beneficiaries are more supportive of it than Evans, and most spend their money the way the Miracles Club does. Portland-based Fresh Out Community Based Reentry told We Out Here that the first 202 people it served received “employment support, peer mentoring, harm reduction services, and food insecurity assistance.” Just 27 clients went to treatment. Painted Horse Recovery, a “culturally specific” recovery center that caters to American Indians, informed the magazine that Measure 110 funded “drum making kits, beads and hides for Natives getting out of prison and treatment.” As Painted Horse executive director Jerrod Murray enthused: “With this money, we see that our approaches work for our people. We are now better equipped to have our community connect to culture through beading, regalia making, drum making and a safe community space. These things are helping people stay clean.”

A clothing drive run by the Miracles Club, a recovery-services program that has garnered millions in government funds to provide various services, including distributing harm-reduction drug kits in branded tote bags around the city

Asked about this prioritization, Tera Hurst conceded that the state may have to draw on federal funding sources to get real treatment capacity online. But, she added, “I feel like the [providers’] services are exactly the right services, and if they’re too heavy on peer support for a little bit in a county, you know, peers can be the difference between somebody staying alive and somebody dying.”

Others have been far more critical. Speaking to the Oregon Senate Committee on the Judiciary last September, Stanford addiction specialist Keith Humphreys charged that Oregon had become too concerned with harm reduction, to the detriment of treatment. “If Oregon continues on its current path of not complementing effective harm reduction with strong prevention and treatment initiatives, and of focusing harm reduction only on people who use drugs, it should expect rising drug use, addiction, and harms to communities,” he maintained.

Those community harms are the most hotly debated part of the Measure 110 rollout. Proponents contended that, if anything, the measure would reduce crime, as it would, in Hurst’s view, allow law enforcement to “focus on the more violent crime and violent criminals, and property crimes.” Decriminalizing a “gram of heroin in somebody’s pocket, which is all decrim did, does not increase criminal activity, and criminal activity is still criminal,” Hurst argued. “If anything, when you have more services and more people being able to connect with folks who are in desperate situations, you’re actually creating better community safety and not the other way around.”

But crime isn’t dropping. According to a recent Research Triangle Institute assessment, police calls for service remain roughly flat in Portland. This may be because the time police aren’t spending on drug crimes is now directed toward property crime, which surged in Portland in the months following Measure 110’s implementation. That shouldn’t be surprising: the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission once estimated that 78 percent of property offenses were committed by people stealing to support their addiction. If drug use is less controlled, it increases, and so do its negative social effects.

Measure 110 has constrained the police’s ability to stem the disorder evident on Portland’s streets. Police can, yes, issue citations for possession. But the citations are ineffectual. As of August 2022, more than 3,000 possession citations had been issued statewide. In only about 4 percent of cases did recipients call the hotline to get a health assessment; just 1 percent requested treatment resources. During its first 15 months, the Oregon secretary of state found, this exercise cost the state about $7,000 per call. Why bother?

Measure 110 isn’t having any noticeable effect on Oregon’s drug-incarceration numbers, either. People could still get arrested for drugs in Oregon before Measure 110—about 8,000 were in 2020. But in this progressive state, they weren’t going to prison. As of the end of 2020—before 110 was implemented—data from the National Corrections Reporting Program show that fewer than 900 individuals were in Oregon’s prisons for drug-related offenses, the fifth-lowest share among states of the prison population in for drugs. And none of those people was in solely on drug-related charges. Consequently, the Oregon secretary of state observed, “there are no savings resulting from fewer individuals being incarcerated due to the drug decriminalization aspects of M110.”

Measure 110 is likely worsening Portland’s long-standing unsheltered homelessness problem, however. Josh Lair, who does community outreach for a medication-assisted treatment program, lauded 110’s funds distribution and breaking down of barriers between service providers. But he’s also seeing drug users coming to Portland from as far away as Texas and Arizona to live in the city’s homeless camps. “And a lot of it has to do with the fact that they’re not going to be in trouble,” Lair said. “I ask them, ‘Why are you here?’ And they say, ‘because of the drug law.’ ”

Large parts of Portland’s downtown and Chinatown districts are now open-air drug markets. One outpost of the city’s famed Voodoo Donuts, for example, is an island in a sea of drug use and camping. The city’s bridges now offer not only a beautiful vista of the Willamette River but also the ugly sight of people living in their own filth. The criminal-justice system can’t do anything about it. And the nonprofits seem either unable or unwilling to do anything, either.

Faced with the situation on the ground in Portland, the more politic supporters of Measure 110 usually plead incompetence. This was basically the tack taken by the secretary of state’s office in its audit: 110’s rollout was bumpy not because of any fatal flaw but because everyone involved was struggling to figure things out. Asked about the rollout, Hurst noted that “changing systems in the midst of a global pandemic is not something I’d recommend to anyone.”

“I’m not going to tout that everything went out smooth. It was hard, it was messy, and it didn’t happen as quickly as I wanted it to,” Hurst said. “That said, the providers on the ground were able to work miracles getting folks the care they needed, getting up and running, hiring people, buying houses, doing the things we desperately need to create the structure of care that we just don’t have here in Oregon.”

Oregon voters aren’t buying it. In an April 2023 poll, a majority said that Measure 110 was bad for Oregon; two-thirds said that it had made drug addiction, homelessness, and crime worse. Asked if they supported restoring criminal penalties for possession while maintaining increased funding for drug treatment, nearly two in three Oregonians agreed. And even Portland mayor Ted Wheeler has had enough: he’s reportedly planning to criminalize public drug use, which, in tandem with his earlier move to ban unsanctioned camping, suggests that the city might be waking up to the effects of its lenient policies on public order. (See “Portland Sobers Up,” Spring 2023.)

Some recent Portland woes have been pinned unfairly on decriminalization—a police contact suggests, for example, that the city’s recent homicide surge was more about decarceration following Covid than about the drug regime. But voters are not wrong to see Measure 110 as an abdication. Maybe it’s okay not to punish people for using drugs—but it isn’t okay to leave them to suffer from addiction or to let them colonize public space. Yet across Portland, that is precisely what is happening.

The High Cost of Crime: Oregon County Loses $1 Billion as Residents Flee Lawless Portland

Residents who fled Multnomah County, Oregon, in 2020 took over $1 billion in income as they searched for a better life in other areas.

The news is according to an analysis of data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Oregonian reported Sunday.

“Numbers gleaned from annual income tax returns provide the most detailed information available on where Americans are moving — and taking their money,” the outlet said:

The latest figures, based on income tax returns filed in 2020 and 2021, show that Multnomah County lost a net 14,257 tax filers and their dependents. The county’s resulting net income loss topped $1 billion for the first time in the decade that the IRS has tracked moving data.

The pandemic appeared to prod relatively higher earners — more likely to hold jobs that can be done remotely — to relocate than in pre-pandemic years. The average income of Multnomah County residents who moved away in 2020, the most recent figure available, was 14% higher than of those who moved the year prior, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive’s analysis.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Census found almost three percent of Portland’s population decided to leave between 2020 and 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported in June.

“The drop of about 17,400 to 635,000 was the sixth largest decline among the 50 largest cities,” the article said, noting that local leaders are now desperate to keep people from moving out.

In addition, “Mayor Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, has come under increasing pressure to address rising violent crime and sprawling homeless encampments,” the Journal article stated.

Portland families were reportedly packing up and moving elsewhere because of rampant homelessness and crime plaguing the area, according to a report from August 2022, reported by Breitbart News.

“Portland experienced a massive spike in its homicide rate from 2019 to 2021, recording a 207 percent increase. During that same timeframe, frequent ANTIFA riots were also occurring in the downtown area,” the article said.

In May, KPTV said Portland was “one of the fastest-shrinking U.S. cities.” A reporter for the outlet noted people said data backs up the fact that “Portland just is not what it used to be now.”

One resident lamented, “It’s like Portland died. The tourists haven’t come back like they used to be, especially the Japanese, because they love this city.”

When Portland Died

A city crumbles under a wave of anarchy and crime.

For several years, Portland was the pinnacle of artistic community. Its oddball style appealed to many and drew thousands to the city. There was even a comedy series, Portlandia, that celebrated its diversity.

But…those days are gone. And you can blame anyone that supported the “defund the police” campaign.

A new report from Fox News reveals that the city, which was one the “crown jewel of the West Coast,” has now fallen into hard times, mainly due to rising crime within the communities.

In fact, police data shows that crime has dramatically increased over that of other states – including Chicago and New York.

Speaking with Fox News, Washington County District Attorney Kevin Barton explained, “Each area has different challenges, but what we’re seeing in the metro area is absolutely rising crime.”

Spread across Multnomah County, Washington County and Clackamas County, the crime has reached astronomical levels, forcing both citizens and businesses to flee elsewhere.

“The increases that we’re seeing are nothing like the increases that we’re seeing in our neighbors,” Barton explained.

“What’s happening is with our de-carceration and elimination of bail culture, we’ve got all these people running around,” Kristin Olson, a trial attorney and host of the Rational in Portland podcast, added. “And it’s really scary because we also have this anti-police culture.”

So how did it come to this? It’s simple – Portland succumbed to those rioters that believed defunding the police would be the answer.

You may recall this heinous campaign that launched in 2020, following the death of George Floyd. Thousands got the insane idea that taking funding away from the police would be the definitive answer for his death, and would make this nation great.

But what happened from the fallout of that? Thousands of officers have left their jobs, either by retirement, simply being tired of their job or, in some extreme cases, suicide; millions of dollars have gone into other campaigns that have since failed to launch off the ground; and some politicians have become jaded, still believing that police officers are the problem even as their cities erupt into criminal chaos.

The biggest thing, however? The rise in criminal activity. It’s ravaged a lot of cities over the past couple of years, including Denver, Los Angeles and several others. And yet, these politicians still don’t have an answer when the clear one is sitting right in front of their faces – restore the police budget.

Oregon State Police data made it very clear that crime is increasing due to a lower police presence, with an increase over nine percent compared to the previous year.

So…why aren’t city officials doing anything about it? Because they refuse to admit that they’re wrong. They refuse to admit that “defunding the police” was the incorrect answer. Even as their Portland-based businesses fall apart and citizens move away for greener pastures, towards people that actually care about them.

It doesn’t help that President Biden is twiddling his thumbs as well. A while back – sorry, a long while back – he vowed to “fund the police” with a new campaign, after months of supporting “defund the police.” But you might notice that there’s been nothing introduced to Congress or the Senate, despite the best efforts of our Republicans to get something going. (You can thank the middling Democrats who still believe in “defunding the police” for that.)

Something needs to be done. Someone in the Biden administration (or perhaps someone who actually cares about what’s happening) needs to take a closer look at Portland and let it serve as an example of what will happen to these states if they don’t give the police the proper support they deserve. Otherwise, I fear where the next turn in this country will take. Imagine every city ending up the way that Portland is. Scary thought, isn’t it?

My heart goes out to the police working in the streets of Portland, as well as the citizens and businesses that continue to support them. They’re fighting a good fight when the people that can actually get anything done refuse to. And that has to be the most frustrating aspect of all.

He also has over 30 years of law enforcement experience under his belt, hence his pro-police stance for his brothers and sisters in blue.

8-Year-Old Killed in Chicago, Dozens Shot in Weekend Violence

August 7, 2023

An eight-year-old girl was shot and killed in Chicago on Saturday, in a weekend that saw dozens of people shot as the Democrat-run city continues to struggle with violence.

Twenty-seven people were shot, seven fatally, over the weekend. One of the victims was Sarabi Medina, an eight-year-old girl, who was shot by a neighbor who complained the child was too loud.

Medina was riding her scooter when the man approached and shot her in the head. The girl's father tackled the assailant, who was shot in the face during the struggle and is now in critical condition.

"Just little kids playing, he would come out just yelling about the noise. It just didn’t make sense, none of it made sense," neighbor Megan Kelley told the Chicago Sun-Times. "Everybody in the community would just tell him they are just kids having fun playing, just let them be."

The girl's mother died in a 2019 shooting.

Also this weekend, a 14-year-old Chicago male was in critical condition after receiving two gunshot wounds to the head. Police had no one in custody as of Monday morning.

The weekend shootings are the latest episode of violence in the city.

Just last week, two USPS mail carriers were robbed at gunpoint within minutes of each other, with one of them shot and in critical condition.

Crime increased by 38 percent in the month after new progressive mayor Brandon Johnson (D.) took office in May. Robberies are up 17 percent compared with this time last year, according to police data, and are up by 30 percent in the past three years.

Johnson's campaign called for "health professionals, not police" to "respond to crisis calls." He was the only mayoral candidate who did not back filling the city's police vacancies, which number more than 1,500 positions.

Former mayor Lori Lightfoot saw the homicide rate skyrocket nearly 40 percent since taking office in 2019, watchdog Wirepoints reported. She now works as a teaching fellow at Harvard University.

Democrat City Crime Rise: Six Killed in D.C. Shootings on Saturday

Six individuals were killed on Saturday alone in Washington, DC, as crime in the district continues to bubble over in the Democrat-controlled city.

The first shooting occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday. According to acting Chief Pamela Smith, who provided an update on the shooting investigation at the 2500 block of Ontario Road, Northwest, two individuals were pronounced dead on the scene, and another was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deeming it “another act of senseless violence,” Smith asked anyone who saw or heard anything related to the shooting to contact the Metropolitan Police Department.

Also on Saturday Smith provided an update on another shooting. Police found a victim at 12th and U streets NW after responding to the sound of gunshots. That victim was hospitalized.

Just hours after that, authorities found a man fatally “shot steps away in the 1200 block of U Street,” according to the Washington Post:

Hours later, another man was shot steps away in the 1200 block of U Street, Watson said. Officers found a man dead at the scene around 5:05 a.m. The victim’s name was not released. At a bus stop in front of an entrance to the U Street Metro station, a Metro employee brushed shards of glass off the sidewalk with a broom. The crime scene was cordoned off by yellow police tape.

Later that night, police responded to another bout of violence, resulting in three individuals fatally shot in the Anacostia area. Two more were wounded.

“At approximately eight o’clock p.m. tonight our officers responded to the sounds of gunshot here in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road SE,” Smith said. “When the officers arrived. They found five individuals who were injured by gunfire.”

“What I have to say tonight is this is very disturbing. Very, very disturbing. And we’re asking you, the community, to please provide us with any information that you may have with regards to this incident tonight. We realize that there may be others who may have been injured tonight. We’re asking you to come forward. Speak to our detectives here at the Metropolitan Police Department,” Smith pleaded, adding, “Let me be clear: this gun violence has to stop.”

The Post spoke to one woman who admitted she has become calloused to the crime in her area.

“I got off the train and didn’t even pay attention to the crime tape because it’s like city decoration to me,” the woman, Anika Bradford, said. The Post added that “Bradford said gun violence is commonplace in her Southeast Washington neighborhood and, in 2021, she lost her 28-year-old cousin in a shooting.”

“It’s sad, I’m immune to death at this point,” the D.C. resident added.

According to reports, D.C. has reported over 150 homicides this year alone, and the D.C. Police Department’s social media page shines a light on an array of other crimes that have taken place in the city over the past few days, including robberies and assaults:

“This kind of gun violence is not acceptable in the District of Columbia. This is not a war zone. We want our residents to feel safe,” Smith added during one of the weekend press conferences, urging the community to step up and come forward with any information to help solve these crimes.

The uptick in violence comes as Americans in other big, crime-ridden cities, such as Seattle, consider moving due to crime as well as rising costs.

Rising crime has been a talking point for conservatives, as the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in March announced a “nationwide billboard campaign” targeting vulnerable House Democrats for their embrace of soft on crime policies.
