Nolte: Left-wing NBC Edits Brittney Griner Story to Benefit Biden White House

The former news agency called NBC was caught editing its story about Brittney Griner, and doing so, naturally, in a way that benefits the Biden White House.

The original story is titled, “Family of Paul Whelan, American imprisoned in Russia, says they were warned about Brittney Griner’s release,” and lays out how the family of former Marine Paul Whelan is dealing with the news that he was not part of this prisoner swap. Whelan has been imprisoned by Russia since 2018.

According to the story, Whelan’s family knew it would be Griner who was released in exchange for the notorious “Merchant of Death,” Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Bout has served about half of his 25-year U.S. prison sentence.

Griner, a U.S. Woman’s Basketball Champion, has been imprisoned in Russia only since February. Griner pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis vape cartridges and was sentenced to nine years.

For reasons no one needs to explain, people are outraged that it was Griner who was released as opposed to Whelan.

We’re all happy Griner has been returned, but she’s only been in prison since February. Whelan has been rotting away for more than four years.

Other people question the idea of releasing an arms dealer into the world, of trading an infamous criminal who spreads death and war, for anyone. There’s no question Russia got the best of that deal. America got a woman who plays a sport no one watches. Russia got a death merchant capable of destabilizing entire countries to benefit his sponsor country.

One way the White House has sought to stifle criticism of the trade is with the claim His Fraudulency Joe Biden was given no choice by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was Bout for Griner and no one else. In other words, the White House was not given the option of Bout for Whelan. Except…

That’s not what former news outlet NBC initially reported on Thursday morning [emphasis added]:

A senior U.S. official told NBC News that the U.S. government had sought to have both Griner and Whelan released as part of a swap with the Kremlin, which wanted the return of Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer who has served 11 years of a 25-year sentence in the U.S. But the official said Russia has treated Whelan differently because he is an accused spy, and that the Kremlin gave the White House the choice of either Griner or Whelan — or none.

So, a “senior U.S. official” is far-left NBC’s source that the White House freely chose a woman who’s been in prison for 10 months over a Marine who’s been in prison for more than four years.

But, later that same day, the good dogs at NBC News quietly edited away that inconvenient report without an explanation. Now the good dogs are telling us Russia never offered Whelan as an alternative to Griner: “…the Kremlin ultimately gave the White House the choice of Griner or no one after different options were proposed.”

NBC did add this sorry explanation:

CORRECTION: (Dec. 8, 2022, 4:09 p.m.): An earlier version of this article misstated the choice the Biden administration was given over hostages. It was to swap for Griner or no one, not a choice between Griner or Whelan.

That’s not an answer. Who misstated? NBC or its source? The article didn’t misstate anything. The article is incapable of misstating. The article did not write itself. Either NBC or NBC’s source misstated. Who was it? NBC won’t say because NBC is no longer a news agency.

But NBC sure is a good dog.

After Brittney Griner swapped for Russian arms dealer, message sent is that woke politics has its perks

Is there anything woke politics can't do?

That's the message the Biden administration has sent with its prisoner exchange of woke basketball star Brittney Griner, convicted of bringing her drug stash into Russia, for Russia's "Lord of War" and "Merchant of Death" arms dealer, Viktor Bout.

As exchanges go, it is, shall we say, a little lopsided in terms of the alleged crimes.

Griner, after all, was convicted of bringing in her personal stash of drugs into Russia during a basketball tour. Bout? Well, he wanted to "kill Americans" and made a deal with undercover DEA agents in Bangkok to sell arms to agents pretending to be FARC's Marxist cocaine terrorists, selling them rockets and launchers intended to take out civilian airliners. That wasn't a problem for him. Nor was it a problem for Joe Biden, who will now see this guy on the loose again.

Bout may or may not have been guilty of all they claimed he was guilty of, but we know he had tons of practice in that arena. Starting out low in Africa's trashcan wars, where he had been a KGB officer in Angola as the Soviet Union fell apart in 1991, Bout, who was ethnically Ukrainian, began to sell arms, aircraft and leftover weaponry lying around during Ukraine's original founding mess in the 1990s, back when Bill Clinton was telling Ukraine to give up their nuclear weapons and trust him to protect the country instead.

After making a pile there, Bout branched out to selling arms to the Taliban and al-Qaida, moving Osama bin Laden's assets from Sudan (remember the gum arabic empire?) to Afghanistan to help him out. He sold arms to keep the fires hot in the Balkans, and sold arms across Africa, the crummier the dictator, the closer he was. He met his end when he went to Bangkok to sell a couple of junk planes in 2008 and somehow met up with what he thought were FARC terrorists from Colombia. After that, he learned the hard way that they were DEA agents on the job.

The Thais, who were embroiled in their own coup mess, where a populist president, Thaksin Shinawatra, was ousted by a Soros-like group called the "yellows," busted Bout and eventually shipped him to the states where he has been doing time in the can for a couple of decades now. The extradition was done by the yellows as a favor to Democrats in the Obama administration, so whether he was guilty of everything they say he was not beyond a shadow of a doubt, as there might be some skeevy backstory given that the Clintons were involved and they loved to meddle in Southeast Asian affairs. Just ask Jim Riady or "Subway" Johnny Chung, not to mention the Indonesian currency board meddling of 1998.

That said, there's little doubt that if Bout for all his crimes and profiteering was exchanged for a small fry on the crime front like Griner, Bout had to have had connections to the Russian state. Vlad Putin doesn't do nice things for other Russians just to be nice.

American negotiators were handed a take-it-or-leave-it offer of Griner for Bout, and they took it, Joe Biden crowing about the great victory for the wokester America-hater Griner and the U.S., and Jill Biden hugging Griner's wife in a White House appearance.

It's right that she was released, given her minor offense, which didn't merit decades in the Gulag, which is what the Russians dealt to her, but it hardly came at zero cost to the U.S. The Russians must be laughing up their sleeves at the kind of deal they got, given Joe Biden's weakness for wokesters. For starters, the message delivered to Putin by the deal was that if he wants to shake something out of Joe Biden, all he has to do is grab a miscreant and use that person as a bargaining chip for a prisoner swap for something or someone that's really important to him. Got some intelligence operatives in jail? Fine, snatch a dolt who hates her own country and likes to carry a little weed derivative on the side. The spies will be back in no time.

More seriously, Biden left less woke and less famous Americans still stuck in Russia as they made that Griner-Bout deal, Americans still there on either trumped-up charges, as seems to be the case with Paul Whelan, or else draconian sentences for minor crimes, now left behind. One such person was Paul Whelan, who has done four years in a Russian prison on what he says are trumped-up espionage charges. Too bad about that. Joe Biden's claim that he will never forget these imprisoned Americans is about as credible as his promise made to Afghanistan's translators, who got left in the dust in Biden's hasty shambling U.S. pullout of Afghanistan, where Afghans who couldn't get visas to the U.S. for terrorist ties and activities, or simply just crime, were let into the states no questions asked, while Afghan translators who put their lives on the line for Americans were studiously ignored by Joe Biden. Anybody heard anything about them lately? That's what happens when you burn U.S. credibility -- nobody believes you when you say you plan to get every American back home.

The remaining Americans in Putin's prison state can probably expect nothing. That's created a lot of resentment and criticism, given that some are given more than others from the state of Biden. Where's the next Bout in jail for Putin to spring now that the FBI has turned its attention to MAGA supporters instead of Russian spies. They don't have anyone.

It suggests that wokesters who have disrespected the American flag as Griner did are given preference to other Americans in matters of prisoner exchanges and too bad if you are, like Whelan, a former Marine who served his country in the past instead of insulted it.

Message sent: Wokesterism has its perks under Joe Biden. Rest assured, tyrants across the globe are taking notes.

Report: Paul Whelan ‘Greatly Disappointed’ Biden Left Him Out of Prisoner Swap

The left-wing American outlet CNN claimed to have secured a phone conversation with former U.S. Marine and Russian prisoner Paul Whelan on Thursday, who reportedly expressed great disappointment and surprise that the president did not include him in a prisoner swap with basketball star Brittney Griner.

Biden liberated Viktor Bout, a notorious arms dealer known as the “merchant of death” who was serving a 25-year prison sentence, for Griner, imprisoned in Russia on charges of possessing cannabis.

Whelan was arrested in Russia in 2018 and sentenced to 16 years in prison for alleged “espionage.” The former Marine denies the charges; Russian officials have presented no concrete evidence for their claims outside of what was used to imprison him in court.

CNN claimed that Whelan said the disappointment was even greater because December will mark the four-year anniversary of his arrest.

“I am greatly disappointed that more has not been done to secure my release, especially as the four-year anniversary of my arrest is coming up. I was arrested for a crime that never occurred,” he said. “I don’t understand why I’m still sitting here.”

Per Biden’s authorization, Bout was released from prison and returned to Russia in exchange for Griner.

Whelan, according to CNN, said he “was led to believe that things were moving in the right direction, and that the governments were negotiating and that something would happen fairly soon.”

“They’ve put me at a level higher than what they did with Trevor (Reed) and Brittney,” he said, referring to the Russian government. Trevor Reed, a former Marine who had been imprisoned in Russia since 2019, was reunited with his family in the spring. He was sentenced to nine years in prison in July 2020 for endangering the “life and health” of Russian police. Reed was traded for Russian drug smuggler Konstantin Yaroshenko.

Biden’s prisoner swap has prompted widespread condemnation, including from Whelan’s family.

“That early warning meant that our family has been able to mentally prepare for what is now a public disappointment for us. And a catastrophe for Paul,” brother David Whelan said. “I do not know if he is aware yet, although he will surely learn from Russian media.”

In February, Griner, a two-time Olympic basketball champion, was arrested in Russia and pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis vape cartridges at an airport near Moscow. Her release had been negotiated since last Thursday.

Biden Leaves Marine Paul Whelan Behind in Russia in Brittney Griner Swap; Family: ‘Catastrophe’

The family of retired Marine Paul Whelan said Thursday that a prisoner swap for WNBA star Brittney Griner that left Whelan in Russia was a “catastrophe” because the U.S. would no longer have leverage to free him.

On Thursday, it was revealed that President Joe Biden’s administration had returned Griner to U.S. custody after she had been sentenced for a drug charge. In exchange, it gave Russia convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout.

But Whelan was left behind in Russia, though the Biden administration had been telling reporters for months that the U.S. was trying to secure his release as well. He has been imprisoned on spying charges that he denies.

NBC News reported Thursday that Whelan’s relatives said they had been warned in advance of the impending Griner swap — and that it would not include Whelan — so they could prepare themselves for disappointment:

Whelan’s brother, David Whelan, said in a statement that while he can “literally only imagine the joy [Griner] will have, being reunited with her loved ones, and in time for the holidays,” the inability to also bring Whelan home remains difficult for the family to process.

“That early warning meant that our family has been able to mentally prepare for what is now a public disappointment for us. And a catastrophe for Paul,” David Whelan said. “I do not know if he is aware yet, although he will surely learn from Russian media.”

Biden’s prisoner swap continues a pattern in which Democratic administrations swap high-level prisoners, and even pallets of cash, for Americans held abroad. President Donald Trump used threats and pressure instead.

The choice of Griner over Whelan may reflect the preferences of Biden’s political base. The WNBA star and celebrity is also a black lesbian, who protested the U.S. national anthem. Whelan is a middle-aged white man.

Biden ran in 2020 on the claim that President Trump did not care about the men and women of the U.S. military, basing his attack on an unsubstantiated story in the Atlantic that he called them “suckers and losers.”

Exclusive–Tom Cotton: People Will Die Because Biden Traded ‘Merchant of Death’ for Brittney Griner

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) predicted on Thursday that leftist President Joe Biden’s decision to trade imprisoned basketball player Brittney Griner for notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, known as the “merchant of death,” would result in people dying as rogue states interpreted the move as open season to arrest Americans.

Cotton’s remarks came in an appearance on the SiriusXM Patriot program Breitbart News Daily hosted by Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow.

Biden announced and the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday that Griner and Bout were both free.

“As a result of the efforts made, we managed to agree with the American side to arrange an exchange of Viktor Bout for Brittney Griner. The Russian citizen has been returned to his homeland,” the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed.

Biden said he personally spoke to Griner in a post on Twitter.

Asked by Alex Marlow if people would die as a result of Viktor Bout being released from prison, Sen. Cotton answered in the affirmative.

“I think they will because, again, Viktor Bout is known as the merchant of death for a reason,” Sen. Cotton said. “It’s not like he’s going to retire to the Black Sea and peacefully live out his golden years in a quiet retirement. [Russian leader] Vladimir Putin wanted him out for a reason.”

Sen. Cotton also noted that his release would likely embolden the abduction and potential killing of more Americans.

“I also think that more Americans will be detained, in some cases unjustly detained, in the future because they realize that Joe Biden – at least as long as he is president – will give away the farm in return for any American citizen,” Sen. Cotton said.

Griner was arrested and sentenced to nine years in prison in Russia in August for possession of cannabis, prompting international outrage. American officials and activists condemned the Putin regime for sentencing Griner for so long on non-violent charges, an apparent political move to leverage her detention for Moscow’s benefit.

Bout was arrested in 2010 and sentenced to 25 years in prison for arms trafficking, aiding terrorist organizations, and conspiring to kill Americans. A notorious arms dealer with a lengthy career of aiding international terrorists, Bout was arrested in a sting operation in which American DEA officials posed as potential buyers tied to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a Marxist terrorist organization. The DEA officials explicitly stated they wanted to weapons to kill Americans, to which Bout allegedly replied, “we have the same enemy.”

Bout’s release comes two months after Biden similarly agreed to free Efraín Antonio Campo Flores and Francisco Flores de Freitas, nephews of Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro arrested trying to traffic 800 kilograms of cocaine into New York. The cocaine reportedly belonged to the FARC.

Notably absent from the prisoner swap was Paul Whelan, a former Marine wrongfully imprisoned in Russia on unsubstantiated spying charges.

Sen. Cotton lamented that no reports indicated at press time that Whelan had been part of the prisoner swap deal, questioning why his release, given his totally unjustified imprisonment, was not a priority.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sen. Cotton condemned Biden for his “incredible appeasement of Vladimir Putin.”

“Viktor Bout has the blood of hundreds, if not thousands, of innocents around the world on his hands,” Sen. Cotton noted. “Don’t get me wrong, Brittney Griner was wrongly detained and used as a negotiating chip with the Biden administration and we should have been engaged in efforts to try to secure her release.”

“But to exchange her, who – to be fair – did violate the laws of a foreign country to which she was traveling, in return for one of the world’s most notorious arms dealers is folly to the greatest degree,” Sen. Cotton lamented.

“What does Joe Biden think is going to happen now?” he continued. “Every time someone wants to get their arms traffickers or their drug dealers out of American prison, all they have to do is arrest an American on some trivial charge and sentence them to nine years and Joe Biden is going to come running with the keys to the prison to release people who are justifiably in prison.

The prisoner swap of the century, for all the wrong reasons

The incompetent Biden administration decided to show how "benevolent" it is by proposing a trade deal with Russia, an adversary of the United States.

You would think this deal would unimpeachably benefit our nation.  However, nothing that the Biden administration has done has been salutary for the United States.  In this given "trade," Joe Biden offered Russia one of its most effective arms dealers, Viktor Bout.  For those not aware, Viktor Bout was imprisoned by the United States in 2011 on the grounds that he was threatening American lives.

One would imagine that the United States would be getting an asset, too.  Perhaps a Marine held hostage by Russia?  So whom did the United States get in return?  Well, we got a WNBA player by the name of Brittney Griner, who was imprisoned several months ago on drug charges.

Griner has been vocal about her disdain for the United States.  In fact, during several of her inferior games, Griner infamously decided not to stand for the playing of the National Anthem.  The anthem is something everyone should stand for; it represents the sacrifices that thousands have endured in order for us to be free.

Personally, I was content with Griner being in Russia.  After all, she hates our country.

One might call my perspective "nationalistic."  I would say it is, unapologetically.

Do you think President Trump would have allowed this calamitous deal?  Absolutely not!  Under Trump's administration, we would probably have gotten Griner and several of our veterans in Russia, without giving Russia anything in return.

This should tell you everything you need to know about the Biden White House.  This administration is not concerned about you or your family.  This "prisoner swap" was simply a means of Biden trying to show how "worthy" he is of your vote.

Rambling Joe must be so proud of himself, standing up to Russia.  It was such an auspicious idea to give Russia a notorious thug, whose nickname is the "Merchant of Death," while bringing back someone who despises our great country.  Viktor Bout will now continue to threaten American citizens, and Brittney Griner will continue to publicly disdain the United States.

All the Democrats want is to feel good about themselves.  "Look at us!  We are such nice people."  But the truth is, they are exacerbating the security and well-being of our nation.  Twenty twenty-four can't come soon enough!

GOP Rep. Gallagher: Biden Has Been Weak on Prisoner Releases, They Released a Huawei Executive

1:35

On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) stated that the Biden administration’s prisoner swap for Brittney Griner was a bad deal and will incentivize hostage-taking. Gallagher also stated that the Biden administration has taken a weak posture on releasing prisoners before, such as the release of Huawei Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou.

Gallagher said, “Well, any time an American comes home, we’re happy for them, we’re happy for their family. But it’s a terrible trade. You look at the comparison here, there’s no equal playing field. … And I think the broader concern is that this sends a signal that if you are a rogue regime or an enemy of America and you want to improve your geopolitical position, take an American hostage. Because it’s not just this isolated incident. We also had the incident before where the Biden administration released a sanctions violator and high-level executive at Huawei to secure the release of the so-called two Mikes, Canadian citizens that were detained, for no good reason, by the Chinese Communist Party. So, we don’t want to send that signal of weakness that incentivizes hostage-taking going forward.”

He added, “The reality is, that if you’re negotiating from a position of strength, I’ve got to believe that it’s possible we could have gotten both Americans.”

Report: Pentagon Worries Russian Released in Prisoner Swap May Return to Arms Trafficking

Viktor Bout (Getty Images)

Pentagon officials are concerned that Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer whom the Biden administration freed from U.S. custody Thursday in a prisoner swap, may return to his illicit trade, according to a Politico report.

"There is a concern that [he] would return to doing the same kind of work that he’s done in the past," a senior Pentagon official told Politico. The official said if Bout returns to illegal arms trafficking the U.S. military will focus on urging the United States' allies in Africa not to engage with the arms dealer.

Bout, known as the "Merchant of Death," had been serving a 25-year sentence for conspiring to kill Americans and support a terrorist organization before he was exchanged for WNBA player Brittney Griner. Griner was in Russian custody since February, when she was arrested for possession of cannabis oil, and was imprisoned in a Russian prison colony to serve a nine-year sentence.

Some criticized the Biden administration for freeing Bout, who armed African warlords and is accused of dealing with al Qaeda and the Taliban, especially as former Marine Paul Whelan has remained in Russian custody since 2018. Whelan told CNN he was disappointed more was not done to secure his release.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.), chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called Bout's release a "disturbing decision" and said the United States "must stop inviting dictatorial and rogue regimes to use Americans overseas as bargaining chips."

Biden Saves Woke WNBA Player, Leaves Ex-Marine Behind

If only the ex-Marine had been a black woke lesbian who hated America.

WNBA player Brittney Griner used to ‘take a knee’ or boycott the National Anthem.

“I honestly feel we should not play the National Anthem,” the woke player whined. “I’m not going to be out there for the national anthem.”

Instead, she went to Russia and was busted for illegal drugs.

While Griner was using her freakish height to build a career of putting an orange ball through a net and getting new tattoos, Paul Whelan was serving in Iraq after a career in law enforcement.

Both Griner and Whelan appear to have made mistakes in their lives. And both ended up being held hostage in Russian prisons.

But there were fundamental differences between them.

Whelan was the wrong race, the wrong gender, the wrong sexual orientation and had even congratulated Trump on his victory. While Griner, a black leftist lesbian celebrity who hated this country, was everything that the Left loved.

The Biden administration moved hell and earth to get the pothead WNBA player out because she hates America almost as much as they do. And left Whelan behind.

In the old days the ethos was to save women and children first. Today, leftists don’t believe in such things. Or even believe in the existence of women. But they practice ‘equity’ in hostage rescues. The black woke lesbian with a cohort of celebrity fans obviously goes first.

And the straight white male ex-military Trump supporter can rot in prison.

If the Titanic were to sink today, the straight white people would be locked in the hold while access to the lifeboats would go in order of race, sexual fetishes and, above all, leftism.

Biden’s dirty deal exchanged Viktor Bout, the “Merchant of Death”: a Russian arms dealer accused of working with everyone from Al Qaeda to Hezbollah, for a WNBA player. That’s the worst trade since the Sixers swapped Charles Barkley for three guys we never heard of again.

Bout takes lives and wins wars. Griner hates America and plays in a league no one watches.

Our people had spent a long time trying to hunt down Bout. They finally caught him offering to deliver 100 surface-to-air missiles and 20,000 high-powered rifles to Marxist narcosocialist guerrillas to kill Americans who were fighting the drug trade in Colombia.

“We have the same enemy,” Bout had allegedly said.

Biden has traded a monster trying to help Marxist drug traffickers kill Americans for a pothead.

We do indeed have the same enemy. Biden and Griner are playing for the same team. And it’s a team that takes a knee for the anthem and does everything it can to weaken our country. After six years of hysterical accusations that Republicans are in league with Russia, Biden just gave Vladimir Putin his biggest win, offering up Bout without even trying to negotiate a better deal.

Biden might have considered offering some sanctions relief to Russia, the way he is to Iran, instead of releasing the ‘Merchant of Death’ whose freedom will put innocent lives at risk. The next time Americans or other people are killed by Bout’s weapons, the blood will be on Biden’s hands. Along with the hands of every celebrity and leftist activist who clamored for the pothead to come to this country where she can safely light up and then jeer the nation that took her in.

Paul Whelan doesn’t understand why he was left behind.

“I am greatly disappointed that more has not been done to secure my release, especially as the four year anniversary of my arrest is coming up. I was arrested for a crime that never occurred,” he wondered. “I don’t understand why I’m still sitting here.”

He may want to take a look in the mirror.

Paul was unfortunate enough to be born white. He was misguided enough to refrain from any radical sexual experimentation. While he made mistakes in his life, he never took a knee. Had he only put on drag and denounced America, he would probably already be a free woman.

The tragic truth is that we have enemies in Washington D.C. who hate us as much as our enemies in Moscow, Beijing or Tehran. They not only hate our country, but they hate us because of the colors of our skin, the nature of our faith and our other differences from them. And they take pains to remind us of this as a matter of federal policy, in corporate workplaces and across the entertainment industry. Paul Whelan was abandoned by his country because there is no one in the White House to represent that country: only the freakshow treason of Brittney Griner.

It is a mistake to think that the woke coup whose equity and ESG quislings have taken control of our government, our companies and our culture don’t look out for their own. They certainly do.

If you’re a woke black lesbian, they will do everything possible to save you. Or at least sell out our national security which they value almost as highly as most Americans value the WNBA.

But if you’re a straight white male, good luck.

Biden abandoned unknown numbers of Americans in Afghanistan. But had any of them been a black gay WNBA player who boycotted the National Anthem, he would have sent 10,000 troops.

Washington D.C. is a government of traitors whose betrayals have become so successful that it is no longer treason, but an enemy regime that rules us the way the Bolsheviks once ruled Russia. They view us as enemies to whom they owe nothing, but whatever pain and suffering they can inflict in the name of their cause, whom they abandon and betray at the first chance.

And any sensible person ought to return the favor.

Just as no leftist government would do anything to free Whelan because he’s a straight white male Trump supporter, no conservative government should do anything to free someone like Griner. Whether we like it or not, we’re in a war and it’s time we recognized that hard reality.

As Obama once urged, punish your enemies. His successor is doing just that.

Will any conservative administration finally have the guts to do it too?
