Much
more can be done on immigration before election
By Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) - 06/19/12 07:42 PM
ET
Congress
doesn’t have to wait until Election Day to respond to what the American people
care about. Poll after poll shows that the American people are overwhelmingly
concerned about jobs and the economy. They also consider national security an
important issue. By making some changes to our immigration system, Congress can
take action now to address the issues Americans care about the most.
We could open up millions of jobs for
unemployed American workers by requiring all U.S. employers to use E-Verify.
Last year, the House Judiciary Committee approved a bipartisan bill that does
just that, the Legal Workforce Act.
E-Verify is a Web-based program that quickly identifies
illegal immigrants in the workforce and protects jobs for legal workers by
checking the Social Security numbers of new hires. The program is free, quick
and easy to use. It only takes about a minute to run a newly hired employee
through E-Verify and persons eligible to work here are immediately confirmed
99.5 percent of the time. More than 375,000 employers already use E-Verify, and
2,200 new businesses sign up each week.
Considering
its track record, it’s no surprise that a recent poll found 82 percent of
Americans surveyed support the expansion of E-Verify. And with 13 million
Americans unemployed and 7 million illegal immigrants working here, now is the
time to expand this popular program.
We
could also boost job creation and improve our economy by allowing the United
States to retain some of the world’s best and brightest foreign graduates of
American universities. Foreign students receive nearly 4 out of every 10
master’s degrees awarded in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
fields and about the same percentage of all doctorates. These students have the
potential to come up with an invention that could save thousands of lives or
jump-start a whole new industry. They also have the ability to start a company
that could provide jobs to tens of thousands of American workers.
Unfortunately,
our immigration system does not always put American interests first — we select
only 5 percent of our immigrants based on the skills and education they bring
to the United States. Our immigration laws should not force the country to
forfeit retaining some of the most talented students from around the world. We
should make tweaks to our immigration system to allow more of the top foreign
graduates of American universities to stay and work here.
Our
immigration system should also better protect our country and citizens from
foreign nationals who wish to do us harm. Recent events underscore the need to
strengthen and improve visa security; we know terrorists use loopholes and
weaknesses in our immigration system to enter the United States. In fact, all
of the 9/11 terrorists entered the country legally on visas. And terrorists
will continue coming to the United States legally if we do not improve and
tighten our visa security process.
The
Secure Visas Act, approved by the House Judiciary Committee last year, helps
prevent terrorists from obtaining U.S. visas by expanding the number of visa
security units overseas to areas designated as “highest risk” for terror
threats. Visa security units ensure that thorough background checks are
conducted on all visa applicants, not just a select few. The bill also allows
U.S. officials to expedite the removal of terrorists who are in the United
States on a visa. Visa security is critical to America’s national security.
The
safety of all Americans could be further enhanced by enacting the Keep Our
Communities Safe Act that was approved by the House Judiciary Committee last
year. This bill is designed to prevent dangerous criminal immigrants from being
released into our communities.
Recent
Supreme Court decisions have ruled that under current law, illegal and criminal
immigrants cannot be detained for more than six months when they cannot be
removed to their home country in the near future. Because some countries refuse
to take back their criminal immigrants, federal authorities have had no choice
but to release thousands of dangerous criminal immigrants into our
neighborhoods.
Tragically,
there have been at least eight preventable deaths because of this loophole. We
cannot continue to let dangerous criminal immigrants slip through the cracks of
our legal justice system. We have a responsibility to make sure the laws of
this land protect Americans rather than endanger them. The Keep Our Communities
Safe Act provides a legislative remedy to this problem by allowing dangerous
criminal immigrants to be detained beyond six months if they cannot be
deported.
Election
Day might be just five months away, but that shouldn’t stop Congress from doing
its job now. Congress still has an opportunity to work across party lines and
take up immigration bills that will help put Americans back to work and make
our country safer.
Smith is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
Today we must rally and charge against Obama's
dictatorial decree that is the Dream Act Amnesty we have defeated together many
times.
Over 59% of Americans oppose the Dream Act Amnesty concept with
only 22% supporting, according to a Rasmussen poll from 2007. There is a lot of
propaganda being spread now that is designed to get you to lie down and submit,
and if you fall for it, we are all doomed.
Come rally with us ALIPACers,
and let us get on the phones today! We must call today as if a vote on Amnesty
legislation could happen at any moment! The Amnesty traitors are hoping that you
will grumble under your invisible yoke of slavery and then go back to sleep
after Obama's orders.
Rise up and move as one!
TO THE
SENATE!
We have a tough battle ahead in the US Senate! It is filled with
arrogant Amnesty supporters like Harry Reid who were elected by illegal alien
voters pouring out of the Nevada casinos into the voting booths. Many will not
listen and those of you in California have it bad.
We need to saturate
the US Senate with calls, emails, faxes, and letters today, demanding action
against Obama's dictates and his Amnesty orders.
Step 1: Call US Senator
Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Jim DeMint (R-SC) and ask them to lead the
charge.
Sample Message: "I'm calling/writing to ask Senator ________ to
lead an effort to use the US Constitution to assert the supremacy of Congress
and stop Obama's unlawful Amnesty orders that bypass the Congress, our
elections, the public, and the Constitution. Americans should not suffer under a
dictatorship, and we should not suffer any form of Amnesty for illegal aliens
like the one Obama has created by fiat!

Step
2: Please contact the 2 US Senators from your state with a similar call followed
by a written version. When you are done calling your US Senators, then please
call as many US Senators as you have time for today.
Step
3: Make sure you help us saturate the US Senate today. Always remember when so
many of us called against Amnesty in 2007 we shut down the US Capitol phone
system! The lawmakers certainly remember. Also, make sure that you have
bombarded your state lawmakers with the poll and messages we gave you yesterday.
Today, Americans in all states are thinking about the US Supreme Court ruling
and how they want their state to stand up like Arizona. Here is yesterday's
alert, please make sure you have saturated your state lawmakers with appeals to
stand up against illegal immigration on the state level...
Do not be dismayed and do not wait for some talking head on
your TV screen to tell you it is time to move. The elites have that locked down
this time and it is up to us!
Rally ALIPACers! Let's get on the phones
together today by the thousands!

feedback, suggestions, questions, concerns, and updates on your progress are
welcome at this activism support link.... ALIPAC Amnesty Defense Plans in Motion: Rally To

·In Walnut Creek, California, Target
store announced they enrolled in e-verify. On the day the screening was to
start for existing employees, 40 overnight spanish speaking workers quit. All
had worked there for 5-9 yrs each. You don't quit a 5-9 yr job on the spot
unless you are hiding something. Target gave all 40 a chance to provide their
leagl papers but they instead left and never came back. Target had to hire 40
legal workes to take their place.
Over 93,000 Companies in Ca have enrolled. Big names too.
Kaiser Permanente is the biggest and many more have followed. E-Verify works.
In fact, OBAMA signed a law in 2009 that required all govt contracted workers
to first be e-verified. If it is good enough for the govt, why not the private
sector?
E-verify is how Meg Whitman's housekeeper, Nikki Diaz, was
found to be working in the USA illegally for 9 yrs. She was making $23 per
hour. These are all good paying jobs.
I just wonder why our Politicians keep talking that they
want to do something about illegal immigration but never do anything? They keep
talking about it. In fact, Obama was talking about pathway to citizenship back
in 2007-2008 during his campaign ( remember he said he would favor it as long
as they got in the back of the line). In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 Obama has
talked about pathway on spanish TV. All this talking is not helping the USA
unemployed. I would think it just encourages more illegal crossings hoping for
that next amnesty but finding work in the meantime.

The unemployment situation is worse than this author states.
Over half of unemployed American Workers lost jobs in the same professions
where most Illegal Immigrants are employed. Since there are actually 19 million
Americans looking for work, that means 10 million Americans are competing
directly with the estimated 7,300,000 illegal immigrants currently working in
the USA.
Data Source - Bureau of Labor Statistics Unemployment Report, June 1, 2012. In
addition:
Construction, extraction occupations = 14.2% Unemployment
Farming, fishing, forestry occupations = 10.7% Unemployment
Transportation, material moving occupations = 10.1% Unemployment
Production occupations = 8.8% Unemployment
Service occupations = 8.8% Unemployment
Total Adjusted US Unemployed Citizens and Legal Residents = 12,720,000
This figure and the above rates exclude 6,291,000 Persons who want a job but
are left out of the above statistics for various reasons.
Total Number of Americans Looking for Work = 19,011,000
That means real unemployment rates for the occupations above are about 50%
larger when excluded people are included.
Pew Center estimates indicate 7.3 million “undocumented, non quasi-legal”
Immigrants work in the USA illegally. A Pew study "estimated that illegal
immigrants fill a quarter of all agricultural jobs, 17 percent of office and
house cleaning positions, 14 percent of construction jobs and 12 percent in
food preparation." That means the vast majority of these jobs are done by
American Workers. These professions are where unemployment is worst for
American Workers.
Meanwhile Management, professional, and related occupations where few Illegal
Immigrants work has a 4.0% Unemployment rate.
*
Way to state facts. Illegals used to come here and only work
in the fields but there are only about 800,000 total agricultural jobs in the
USA and over 12 million illegals. Most are working good paying jobs. My
neighbor has admitted that he is in the USA illegally and he made over $100K
last year working construction jobs. He made $2,000 a week rebuilding homes or
doing cement work. All are cash jobs so no payroll taxes are paid, no social
security match, no medicaid tax. If a leagl worker had these jobs then SS would
benefit, local taxes, etc...

·All the talk about education in this
article and how bright minds in Math, Science are from foreign born students,
then why is there no talk about creating those bright minds right here in the
USA through education overhaul?
Our education is in bad shape if we have to go outside the
USA to get educated students? We have over 1 million high school drop outs
every year in the USA. Our borders alow about 500,000 illegals in the USA every
year.
VCome on Congress, make education affordable in the USA. The
cost of education in most Asian countries is about $4,000 for a degree, It is
about $60,000 in the USA.
College is out of reach financially in the USA for even the
brightest minds here already. Now an Associated Press report last month said
50% of all college grads in the USA are unemployed or under employed. But you
can find a job if you are a foreign born student? What?
Congress, you need to see what is happening to the USA by
getting out from behind that $10,000 desk and that $billion dollar office
building you do your work in. That is not how all Americans live.
CASA
GRANDE, AZ - Two men shot earlier this week could be the result of the ongoing
battle between Mexican drug cartels now spilling over deep into Arizona,
officials say.
Pinal
County investigators say an area known as the smuggling corridor
now stretches from Mexico's border to metro Phoenix.
The
area , once an area for family hiking and off road vehicles has government
signs warning residents of the drug and human smugglers.
Night vision cameras have
photographed military armed cartel members delivering drugs to vehicles along
Highway 8.
"We
are three counties deep. How is it that you see pictures like these, not
American with semi and fully automatic rifles. How is that okay?" asked
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu.
Casting a shadow on
economic recovery efforts in the United States is the cost of illegal
immigration that consumes U.S. taxpayer dollars for education, healthcare,
social welfare benefits, and criminal justice. Illegal aliens (or more
politically correct, “undocumented immigrants”) with ties to Mexican drug
cartels are contributing to death and destruction on U.S. lands along the
southern border.
While the declining job market in the
United States may be discouraging some would-be border crossers, a flow of
illegal aliens continues unabated, with many entering the United States as
drug-smuggling “mules.”
Increasingly vicious foot soldiers of the Mexican drug cartels are taking
control of U.S. lands along the border, especially since U.S. Border Patrol units
have been reassigned, some to offices 60 to 80 miles inland.
The U.S. Department of the Interior,
Bureau of Land Management (BLM) early last year posted signs warning citizens
to avoid Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, Ariz., because of criminal
activity in the area, an area that includes protected natural areas precious to
the nation.
In reaction to public outrage over the signs, the BLM removed the offensive
wording in October 2010, replacing it with the following: Visitor Information
Update—Active Federal Law Enforcement Patrol Area.
As the liberal news media, far-left Democrats, and labor unions push for the

Obama Doesn’t Distinguish Between Legal/Illegal Immigration in Speech
to Hispanics
Friday, May 13, 2011

2011. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)
(CNSNews.com) – In his speech at the
National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, President Barack Obama did not
make a distinction between legal and illegal immigration and compared illegal
aliens to those people who immigrated legally to the United States through
Ellis Island or other U.S. ports of entry.
In his speech, Obama referred
to "immigrants" six times and "immigration" seven times and
said the United States is a "nation of laws." But he did not use the
words “legal” or “illegal” in his speech[2].
“It can be tempting to think
that those coming to America today are somehow different from us,” Obama said.
“And we need to not have amnesia about how we populated this country.”
Obama said we should “look at
that migrant farmer and see our own grandfather disembarking at Ellis Island,
or Angel Island in San Francisco Bay,” he said, “and to look at that young
mother, newly arrived in this country, and see our own grandmothers leaving Italy
or Ireland or Eastern Europe in search of something better.”
Obama referred to illegal
aliens as“millions of people who live in the shadows” and are targeted by
“unscrupulous businesses.”
According to the Department
of Interior’s National Park Service, people who immigrated to the United States
through Ellis Island[3] had to have proper
documents, and have the ability so they would not become“a public charge or an
illegal contract laborer.”
Obama said people should
keep“activating” and “mobilizing” to get immigration reform accomplished, a
goal the president has repeatedly said should involve a “pathway to
citizenship” for the 14 to 20 million illegal aliens estimated to be in the
United States.
“And if you can do that, I’m
absolutely confident that we will not only make sure America remains true to
its heritage as a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws, but we’ll make
sure we remain true to our founding ideals, and that we build a beloved
community here on this Earth,” Obama said.
