Poll: Liz Cheney Enjoys 60 Percent Favorability Among Democrats
Sixty percent of Democrats view outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) favorably amid potential presidential campaign ambitions, a YouGov poll found this week.
After Cheney lost the Wyoming Republican primary by nearly 40 points on Tuesday, the next day she announced she is considering a presidential bid in 2024.
Perhaps Cheney’s best hope of winning the presidency is with Democrat voters because her favorability among Democrats far outweighs her support among Republicans and independents.
According to the YouGov poll, Cheney’s favorability rating among independents is only 25 percent. And her favorability rating among Republicans is only 17 percent.
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), an establishment and anti-Trump Republican, stated in Utah on Thursday that Cheney’s chances of winning the Republican nomination are very slim “in the time of Trump.”
“I don’t know if she really wants to do that. She would not become the nominee if she were to run. I can’t imagine that would occur,” Romney said.
Former President Donald Trump has not announced a 2024 presidential bid.
President Joe Biden has insisted he is running again, despite a majority of voters being worried about his mental and physical fitness.
Cheney’s popularity among Democrats may hurt the presumable Democrat nominee (Biden) and benefit Republicans in the 2024 presidential race.
The poll sampled 1,500 adults from August 13-16 with a three point margin of error.

Mitt Romney Dumps Ice-Cold Water on Liz Cheney's Presidential Ambitions
Arch anti-Trumper Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah says fellow Republican and Trump-basher Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming has little hope of winning the presidency in 2024.
Cheney was decisively trounced this week in a Republican primary, losing to Harriet Hageman, who had extensive support from former President Donald Trump
On the day after her loss, Cheney said she would continue her vitriolic campaign against Trump and might take that campaign as far as a presidential run in 2024.
“I believe that Donald Trump continues to pose a very grave threat and risk to our republic. And I think that defeating him is going to require a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats, and independents, and that’s what I intend to be a part of,” she said.
That might not end so well, Romney said Thursday.
“I’m not going to encourage anyone to run for president,” Romney told the Deseret News. “I’ve done that myself, and that’s something I’m not doing again.
“I don’t know if she really wants to do that. She would not become the nominee if she were to run. I can’t imagine that would occur,” Romney said.
Cheney could seek to run as a vehicle for other political purposes, but Romney said, “I’m not in collaboration with that effort.”
Romney praised Cheney for her attacks on Trump.
“I salute her courage. You wouldn’t call it courage, by the way, if there were no consequence for doing what you think is right. She did what she thought was right. I believe she was right,” Romney said.
Cheney said her defeat shows that Trump’s “hold is very strong among some portions of the Republican Party. My state of Wyoming is not necessarily a representative sample of the party,” Cheney said, according to Fox News, citing an ABC interview.
“I think it says a couple of things. I think it says people continue to believe the lie. They continue to believe what he’s saying, which is dangerous,” she said. “I think it also tells you that large portions of our party, including the leadership of our party, is very sick.”
Romney, who in 2016 launched a scorched-earth effort to deny Trump the Republican presidential nomination and voted twice to impeach Trump, said the 2024 GOP presidential nomination is for Trump, or a Trump ally, to claim.
“I don’t think someone who is seen outside the Trump circle would have any realistic chance of becoming the nominee in 2024, barring something I can’t foresee at this stage,” he said, according to the Deseret News.
“If he doesn’t run again, I think it’ll be people who either were supporters of his or people who didn’t say much about him and then would be open to become the nominee,” Romney said.
“My party has changed a great deal over the last decade. It will change again over the next 10 years. I can’t tell you how, but I think we’ll have more voices than one at some point,” he said.
“But right now one voice, and that’s President Trump’s voice, is the loudest and the strongest and bucking him is something people will do at their peril,” he said.
Romney said he thinks the GOP can win a majority in the House, but — referencing comments from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that the Senate might remain in Democratic hands – said Republicans might not gain control of the Senate.
“I take my cue from Mitch McConnell who watches it more closely than I do in terms of the races outside of our own races here,’’ he said. “But he looks at races around the nation and I guess just yesterday he said too close to call.”

Liz Cheney Compares Herself to Abraham Lincoln in Concession Speech
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) compared herself to former President Abraham Lincoln during her concession speech shortly after her loss to Trump-backed Republican challenger Harriet Hageman.
Cheney claimed she lost her primary election only because she failed to “go along with President Trump’s lie about the 2020 election.”
“It would have required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic. That is a path I could not and would not take,” Cheney said.
Cheney said her opposition to former President Donald Trump was rooted in “the principles” that members of congress are sworn to protect and that she “well understood the potential political consequences” of opposing Trump.
She then compared herself to Lincoln, who saved the nation during our Civil War.
“The great original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the house before he won the most important election of all,” Cheney said. “Lincoln ultimately prevailed. He saved our union and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.”
She also quoted Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address and claimed that Americans’ “highest duty” is to “protect the foundations of this constitutional republic.”
After comparing herself to Lincoln, Cheney focused on the January 6 Capitol Riots and claimed that “America will never be the same” if Americans do not “hold those responsible to account.”
“At the heart of the attack on January 6, is a willingness to embrace dangerous conspiracies that attack the very core premise of our nation,” she said.
“Our nation is barreling once again toward crisis, lawlessness and violence,” Cheney added. “No American should support election deniers at any position of genuine responsibility, where their refusal to follow the rule of law will corrupt our future.”
She also claimed that Trump is promoting an “insidious lie” about the recent FBI raid of his Mar-a-Lago residence, which will “provoke violence and threats of violence.”
“Trump knows that voicing these conspiracies will provoke violence and threats of violence,” Cheney said. “This happened on January 6, it is now happening again. It is entirely foreseeable that the violence will escalate further, yet he and others continue, purposely, to feed the danger.”
Cheney mentioned Lincoln once more and opined that Civil War-era fighters like Lincoln and former President Ulysses S. Grant are “speaking to us down the generations.”
“Lincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation’s tragic civil war, including my own great-great-grandfathers, saved our union, their courage saved freedom,” Cheney said. “And if you listen closely, they’re speaking to us down the generations. We must not idly squander what so many have fought and died for.”
In conclusion, Cheney pledged to “do whatever it takes” to prevent Trump from regaining control of the presidency.
“We must be very clear-eyed about the threat we face and about what is required to defeat it. I have said since January 6, that I will do whatever it takes to ensure Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office,” Cheney said.
“I ask you tonight to join me as we leave here, let us resolve that we will stand together, Republicans, Democrats and independents against those who will destroy our republic,” Cheney concluded. “They are angry and they are determined. But they have not seen anything like the power of Americans United in defense of our Constitution and committed to the cause of freedom.”
EXCLUSIVE: Biden CBP Warns of Extremist Violence from Open Border ‘False Perception’
According to a source within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a recent email addressed to all CBP personnel from Commissioner Chris Magnus warns of potential violence directed at law enforcement due to the “false perception that the U.S. Government in not working to maintain security along the US-Mexico border.”
Breitbart Texas reviewed the email circulated to all Border Patrol Agents and CBP staff. Magnus further states the “false perception” that the federal government is not working to maintain security along the border is fueling the potential for domestic extremist violence.
In addition to the recent FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Magnus draws on a June DHS National Terrorism Advisory System bulletin:
Some domestic violent extremists have expressed grievances related to their perception that the U.S. government is unwilling or unable to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and have called for violence to stem the flow of undocumented migrants to the United States. We assess that there is increased risk of domestic violent extremists using changes in border security-related policies and/or enforcement mechanisms to justify violence against individuals, such as minorities and law enforcement officials involved in the enforcement of border security.
The source within Customs and Border Protection, speaking on the condition of anonymity, says the message had a stinging effect on already sinking morale. They note that perceptions of lacking enforcement on the border are grounded in truth. The source complains about relatively few Border Patrol agents able to perform conventional duties.
The influx has stymied the agency’s ability to detect and record migrant got-aways according to the source, with nearly half a million eluding apprehension since October 2021.
The increase in migrant apprehensions is staggering. As of July, with two months remaining in the current fiscal year, Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 1.8 million migrants. In 2021, 1,659,206 migrants were arrested during the entire year. The current running total shatters the previous agency record along the southwest border.
As reported by Breitbart Texas on Sunday, nearly 700 migrants waded across the Rio Grande in one border city. Breitbart Texas posted at major migrant crossings and observed large and small migrant groups surrendering to Texas Army National Guard soldiers, Highway Patrol and Border Patrol around the town of Eagle Pass.
According to the source, on Sunday, more than 2,000 migrants were apprehended in the Del Rio Sector, mostly in Eagle Pass. They were usually released to pursue asylum claims.
The releases have frustrated mayors and city officials around the country who now face rising costs to accommodate arriving migrants. The City of San Antonio expressed similar concerns and attempted to reduce the daily influx. Local authorities issued threats to turn buses around to the border if left unsatisfied by the CBP.
